  1. I heard skill gain is rather faster (to compensate for the fact that there will be planned resets every so often).
  2. Not a bad idea and looks good, might do something similar for Glitterdale.
  3. And if they decided to do the sensible thing and give away their deed and plot, or was with a group of people in a community and they're going to carry on using what they built? Or gave away/traded tools to new players? All those items will suddenly vanish. I know that GM's (and thus the game) can tell who made each item on the server - but to tell what was still being used by that person I would imagine is impossible in the case of many things.
  4. I'd have thought a similar difficulty to a loom really - both ways to automate what was done by hand before they were invented... But yes, it's needed.
  5. No romance in your soul Ddddestroyer
  6. I'm sure that if it got wiped, we'd never see another Colossus in GV. Such an achievement by so many for a skill capped server, it just wouldn't get the personality it has if there are resets. Also, another thought occurs, new players NEED all the random rubbish around. So many dash off into the wilderness not realising what the game entails and end up shouting 'Help, I'm lost!'. Almost 100% of the time players are able to say OK, what can you see, who's buildings are you near, any significant features? and direct them back to safety. Without the 'clutter', this would not just be impossible, but the infrastructure makes it so much easier to say 'follow this road until' rather than 'let's hope you come across a small pond which is over that way somewhere, and then you need to head North (to figure that out, you either need a compass, cut down a tree, get the weather report with F7 (I think...) and figure out which way the wind is going or...)'. Yes... I think I've made my point. Not only does this help new players, but it gives them an indication of how friendly a place wurm can be, and the community spirit. If everyone ended up saying 'I dunno, everything's changed since two months ago.' I think we'd lose a LOT more than just the (slightly) cluttered and (marginally) pre-terraformed nature of the map. Give me another 24 hours and I'm sure I can come up with another valuable reason not to have resets... Oh, and out of interest, how many people asking for a reset are still living in GV or only just starting? Have you all gone to premium? If so, you're essentially trying to control an environment your not really so involved in. It should be the new (and current) players, and possibly those that decided aginst playing any more that should be asking for such things as it's us that will be affected, and so far I recognise no-one in that group asking for a reset in this thread.
  7. Lol, all well and good, except you can't build guard towers
  8. I will be going premium when I get a job (I currently have negative money ), if I find I have enough time to play (I don't see the pint if I can only manage an hour every two or three days...).
  9. Baby horse names!

My first bred animal - Flashgold - white male.
  10. I usually take Zone on online games (my nickname at school) but it's often quite popular, so if I don't start a game near the start of its life, I find it's often taken. I've recently started using Hordern in those cases - it's my grandfathers surname (As in Sir Michael Hordern - actor, voice of the original Paddington Bear etc.).
  11. The point still stands though Looroll that a lot of questions are answered by non PA players. You think we'd have enough time to help out if we were building our house for the 5th time in a month? Weekly reset is absurd enough, monthly is doubtful. I've been playing for a month and a half, and have been online quite regularly, but I'm only just starting to get some tamed animals, and am just beginning to get a few triple harvests. A couple of days ago I managed to imp all my armour and weapons to just over 20. I can't go to premium atm because I REALLY have no money. I intend to go to Wild when I get a job, but of course then I won't have as much time to play. If everything was reset every month, I'd have to work REALLY hard every month to get to where I am, and I won't be able to be online as much as I am at the moment. Also, think of the players who would just get going (perhaps be playing a week) and then everything would be reset - how frustrated and angry would you be? As others have said - there would be no big impressive structures to show people just what can be achieved and I know I wouldn't be bothering to play at the moment if there was a reset every month. Yes, it's a bit cluttered, but in the grand scheme of things, new players don't really realise this until they've got settled in, by which point they're playing and will probably continue playing. I doubt there are many (if any) players who quit because it seemed a bit jumbled. Decay rates are already a lot faster than Premium, areas do become available again - ok so they're a bit terraformed, but a map reset for the sake of more terraforming options is not worth the cost of the losses described above. Oh, and also, think of the terraforming you'd be required to do after every map reset to build where you were before... That would take a couple of days - losing you more time...
  12. Woah, I didn't notice java was so behind, I wondered why it had a slightly different loading screen. It made no difference to loading, but then I changed the VBO to disabled and I got in. Thanks so much for your help
  13. Thanks for hauling this thread back on topic Othob, and I like the idea of the new use for scissors, afterall, sickles aren't used to trim bonsai trees!
  14. Hi Firstly, to Elias, I can't believe it's having the settings high. I turned most of them lower than my PC settings, and the laptop is only a month old, so most of the hardware is of higher spec than my PC which is now around 3 years old. 15. Hi I usually play Wurm on my PC with no issues, but tried to log in to check on my fields on my girlfriends laptop. I had no issues when downloading the packs etc, and everything seems to be running as usual until the loading screen bar reaches the end (100%), at which point the window vanishes. I had a read through some of the other posts, but without finidng one with all the same info in the error file as mine, that was going to be a long shot, so heres mine, and I hope there's a simple solution. 16. Having keys appear when you attach the lock would save some time and haslle for GM's on GV as you do get some new players attaching locks that they found, not realising what the consequences would be. Yes, we laugh at them now, but this is not an easy game to immediately get to grips with. as I say, it's more just a hassle saver than anything else.
  17. Maybe if you dropped the item into a barrel of water rather than added water to the item as it is for tempering the game could know the difference...? Obviously in RL there'd be no difference, but I'm sure we'd all rather suspend a little belief there rather than have to heat up metal again after every attempt at Tempering...
  18. Well if you wanted to be picky, a potted plant COULD be a plant that is high... you never know, Wurm is a fantasy land, other crops might start smoking the wemp As for a potted plant being a plant in a pot, to me it more means a plant (more usualy a fruit or something) that has been harvested and put inside a jar or something to store... Anyway, complete digression, they're pot plants, and that's how it's staying
  19. Some people remain on GV because they can't afford Premium. OK, I know that sounds crazy because it really isn't that much, but I have no job at the moment and REALLY can't afford anything other than food, rent and bills. we're not leeching off it as you put it. I really enjoy it, and am looking forward to getting a job and going to Wild, but for the moment, GV is the best I can do. I understand that it's hard to get so immersed in the game due to the terrformed nature of the place and all the ruins, however, GV will only look the same a few months after the reset again but so much of the infrastructure that make bigger projects possible will have vanished. Not to mention the bigger projects that are already there and show the new players an inkling of what might be possible on freedom. I still find myself getting lost in enormous woodlands with only the occasional glimpse of a road or decaying fence. I say no reset...
  20. While botonizing today, it occured to me that we can plant seeds but why not berries, or indeed cuttings of herbs? Perhaps rather than planting them on an entire tile, we could have a plant pot (size of a small bucket?) in which can be planted a herb or berry. A requirement to water them, and an option to take cuttings/prune for resources. This would be especially useful with something like lovage or rosemary for healing covers... If you'd want to limit the number of plants possible (because you could fill a small house with plant pots otherwise I suppose) then perhaps allow them only as window boxes, so only as many as someone has windows on their house. No doubt we'd end up with a lot of houses with loads of windows then I guess... Anyway, do add ideas, this is just the preliminary thought.
  21. And what am I supposed to do with the 8 Colossus bricks I have and was hoping to trade for something, start another one?
  22. Being new to the game (3 hours total gaming time by the point this description starts) I'd just about worked out what I wanted to try and do. With a bear hiding out in the public Iron and Silver mines it's been very hard to get any ore (anyone capable of taking out a Mature Raging Black Bear, you'll find a lot of grateful new folk!). I finally came across a couple of lumps, then spent the next hour refining it, and then I set about trying to find an anvil. Not managing to find one (I was using a random forge), I figured I could try and make one. Another 45 mins of heating later, and it was due to become 'glowing' again at any moment, when someone called Skidmark wandered up and took it. Now I know I'm using a forge out in the open, and when I asked politely for it back, he said 'well you shouldn't be using a public forge then!' (Stupidly I didn't think to take a screenshot of what was effectively a confesion). I can understand that point, but to get such a thing you need to build a locked fenced area or a hut, for which you need nails and a lock, for which you need glowing iron lumps... Unfortunately I had to head off for real life reasons, so couldn't hang about and find out how to contact GM's etc. (I got a couple of pieces of advice which unfortunately didn't work) and one person even chased the guy for me, but of course in GV you can't attack someone. I know it was only 2kg of fairly low quality Iron, but it represented half of my gaming time so far and a fair amount of my will to continue. To finally get to the point - how do we deal with people like that? IS there anything we can do? Also, if anyone does come across this person on a premium server in the future, chop his head off and steal a couple of iron lumps for me
