I was planning on leaving this to run it's course as things seemed to have calmed down last night. However over the course of this morning, it has simply devolved into making inflammatory and negative statments intending to provoke other members of the community. I'm not planning to take any further action beyond locking this post and clearing out some of the more troublesome posts. There is no right or wrong way to play Wurm. Some people prefer to PvP, some people prefer to stick to PvE. Both are valid styles of play and both deserve our respect. Some people are new to the game and have found communities they love on both sides of the game, this should be celebrated but not at the expense people on the other side of the fence. Some people have been around for 2 decades and may have negative experiences with certain playstyles, this is also valid but is not an excuse for tarring the current community with the same brush. No player is better than another for choosing to play the game their own way. We're all here because we love Wurm, whether we agree with certain playstyles or not. Melketh (Forum Moderator)

I think you should be required to play Wurm to even make suggestions.

Yea I really hoped it was going to work like Epic Portals, where you could bounce at will between two deeds.

The very first thing was a link to a post which covers this subject very well. The statement above is false. The very first thing that happened was someone being nice enough to point you to an existing and still active discussion (last response from today, this is a forum, not ingame chat, people take time to read, think about the response and actually respond. Topic started ages ago evolves and new arguments are presented all the time. This is how forums work.) You have not covered a single point which wasn't covered multiple times already, most of them in the topic linked in the first response. The first toxic thing said was "Most of these comments were from 2023 and most ppl are just complaining about being killed calling it toxic. I refuse to go off a old post. " The game has not changed since 2023 with exception of few minor updates. The same people are playing it. That topic is still going on. You openly say "i don't care what people said, i refuse to read another topic, let them rewrite everything in my topic for my convenience." That's the first "toxic" thing happening here. What exactly are people complain about? Or was it one person complaining in GL-Freedom that they can't find their donkey? What happens in PvE that can't happen in PvP? You do understand the difference between the two, right? In PvE you can do XYZ, in PvP you can also do the same XYZ plus you can have your stuff flattened, you can lose everything you were working on for years, overnight. In PvE nobody cares about your martial status or if you can play 20h/day to deem you worthy, outside of the demands of PvP systems in most games, there is nothing it offers that you can't achieve in PvE. It's not unique to Wurm community, here's an example of a recent poll on external portal (reddit, unfortunately, but as much as i dislike it, it does have a much larger audience than Wurm and the same pattern seems to be showing): https://www.reddit.com/r/MMORPG/comments/18w0010/what_content_you_play_most_pve_vs_pvp/ You might misunderstand what "toxic" means. Giving you a link to an existing post with all the answers gathered over the course of a year is not toxic. Your response to the tune of "but i want people to write in my topic instead" is childish at minimum. All that followed possibly resulted from people recognizing the troll, based on that response. To answer your original question: Most of us are here to relax and enjoy a computer game. Many of us don't want to talk to anyone after spending a day having to talk to coworkers/customers/whathaveyou. Some of us are perfectly happy sitting on a marble bench, in the horse pen, looking at the foals and deer going about their business, while doing a bit of fishing, without being bothered. This is a sandbox, you make the game what you want it to be. You want to farm? Perfect, from few fields in the middle of nowhere, to massive farms with huge storage and frequent customers. Want to sail the world and see the wonders? No problem at all, you can become a tourist and never settle down. Without a worry you can build a small boat and sail forever, eating only what you forage and never having to fight anyone or anything. Want to be a hunter? Great! travel the lands and hunt. You want to PvP? Great, there are entire island you can do that at, go and murder everyone. You keep calling people who don't want to play a sandbox game the same way you do "toxic". The emphasis here is on sandbox. You do what you like, let others do what they like but if people are genuinely giving you decent piece of material to read, built over a year's time, and you dismiss it right away for absolutely no reason, neither PvP or PvE players respect that.

There is a key detail here in the patch notes This doesn’t apply if you are the owner of the item, the last player who dropped it or if you have permission to bash the item. Lava is a particular mechanic in-game that can be used in a hostile manner potentially bypassing player ownership/Locks/ect. It was most likely changed to prevent those particular cases from occurring. I still can use my lava for repair grinding, trash management ect. Generally we move non-owned items and objects to the deed perimeter to allow them to decay naturally and prevent players who MIGHT return from losing their possessions artificially in a way they might not have planned for.

The 5 toons per email account is simply a limitation of design that they have never updated. There is no rule on how many toons you can own or have logged in at the same time. Your limited only by the amount your computer is able to handle. I know of many people who have had 30+ toons all logged in at the same time doing sermons and the such. Good luck and Happy Wurming!

Like i said, if we ever get a new map, we need deeding restrictions: At least 24h /played and premium to make a deed Must buy deed forms for 10s from a trader. If you have less than 72h /played and you've been offline for longer than 30 days, your deed upkeep increases by 1% for every day after, until you log back in or the deed disbands PvE only: Increased decay off deed for houses owned by players with less than 72h /played, AND for everybody who have been offline for longer than 90 days regardless of time played. 1% more damage each day until the house is destroyed. Only off deed. PvE only: If a deed disbands due to lack of upkeep, ALL HOUSES that were on deed (not fences but houses) are instantly destroyed, regardless of who owned them. If a deed is manually disbanded this doesn't happen. Every deed resident will get a warning if the upkeep is getting low upon logging in and that their house will be destroyed once the deed disbands. Deeds disbanding due to lack of upkeep are not announced anymore.

Change: Placing or resizing a deed is no longer possible within 40 tiles of a server border. Change: Boats should now only appear on water tiles after crossing a server border. Seems the latter makes the former redundant? It doesn't impact my bridge but seems odd to want to remove the possibility for anyone else to make a server bridge and be reassured that it wont decay, feats of engineering to be frowned upon?

Maybe they should just PIN this Comment on the Top of Town Square, to avoid the same old same old repetition of people that think they are contributing about something that was never, ever covered before. These 10 Points are not variables. They are constants. Valid in 1980, and valid in 200 more years, and these cover pretty much everyone that won't pvp no matter what.

I'm confused as to why it's okay to have the portals at starter deeds, where people are going to leave carts and animals around, but we had a dev state this in the auction house feature suggestion thread as a reason for why the auction houses couldn't be a physical building located on the starter deeds: Isn't this going to lead to the same problem, but in an even more cluttered, lifeless way with carts strewn around all over the starter deeds?

Reasons why people choose PvE in Wurm over PvP: People like to create things for themselves. They do not like being forced to create things for others. People can securely own their own things. They do not have to pool their resources, nor is there active risk of their land being taken from them by deed drainers outside of PvP. People can ply their trades, and actively make money off of it. There is no intrinsic guilt associated with selling your wares outside of PvP. People can find belonging and community through alliances, without the hierarchical structure that comes with PvP's communities. People like to gather things for themselves. They do not like being forced to gather things for others. People dislike being 'given' things by people who hoard what the community itself creates. Even if they created it themselves, they still feel like they're being supported, and not self-sufficient. People like to create beautiful things. People dislike having to create spartan or brutalist structures out of defensive necessity. People like to create grandiose things. People dislike having to limit the size and scope of their creations due to defensive necessity. People hate the feeling of loss. Having things directly taken from you, either through the community hierarchy, or through the inevitable result of death out in the field, does not feel good to most people. People hate the feeling of being controlled. Having to change how you play specifically to avoid the inevitable result of death, or to appease the dictates of the community hierarchy, does not feel good to most people. It's only natural people will pick PvE over PvP. I would argue that the collectivistic hierarchical structure of PvP is one of the greatest weaknesses towards it's ability to recruit, especially when compared to the clear individualistic capitalist structure of PvE. Then there is the inevitable outcome for all FFA PvP, regardless of game, structure, or design: One side wins. The other side quits. The winners quit out of boredom, because there is no one left to fight. This thread pretty much exists because you guys are coming into the tailspin of population decline. I'm willing to bet one side won. Probably JK again since it's always been the heavy favorite of Rolf's. Now there's no MR or HoTS left to fight, right? Welcome to victory, enjoy the peace.

Short term alt growth due to people actively land rushing. Followed by long term population reduction. People who didn't get the shiny new land located close to the starter town often get envious and leave. Their previous deeds on the previous server no longer have the same prestige or perceived value, so they lose the reason to stick around. Watching Indy go from 1000 people to 120 was mortifying. Seeing my alliance dry up over the span of two weeks was mortifying. Going from constant chatter in freedom, to a ghost town - was mortifying. Xanadu was a mistake, and new servers have constantly been a bandaid over a stab wound. Deeds aren't even the main source of revenue anymore due to the lack of merchant contracts, so it won't even have the same financial impact as it used to when even tiny deeds were 10s upfront. If they're desperate for ideas on how to monetize the game without pissing off a sizeable chunk of the fanbase, there are better methods and routes to go.

These changes would apply only on PvE servers: You must have at least 24h /played and premium to make a deed Must buy deed forms for 10s from a trader like in the past If you have less than 72h /played and you've been offline for longer than 30 days, your deed upkeep increases by 1% for every day you are offline, until you log back in or the deed disbands Increased decay off deed for houses owned by players with less than 72h /played, AND for everybody who have been offline for longer than 90 days regardless of time played. 1% more damage each day until the house is destroyed. Only off deed. If a deed disbands due to lack of upkeep, ALL HOUSES and ONLY HOUSES that were on the deed are instantly destroyed, regardless of who owned them. If a deed is manually disbanded this doesn't happen. Every deed resident will get a big warning window upon logging in if the upkeep is getting low that their house will be destroyed if the deed disbands. Deeds disbanding due to lack of upkeep are not announced anymore.

You seem to be missing the point . Portals are to much trouble for nothing , just merge servers and sail away . Portals are going to screw up and have to do role backs if added . Or someone will find a glitch / exploit and not report it .
  23. 1 point
Will characters coming through the portal receive a newbie starter kit of basic tools, weapon and armour? If not it might be better to create an alt. People with characters and deeds on both SFI and NFI obviously want to bring these characters together so they can work on projects on both deeds. These deeds may be miles away from the start town, and these characters will arrive through the portal, naked and vulnerable. That means the main character of that server will have to go up and collect them, or summon them in order to avoid a madcap run across the whole server without even basic tools, weapon or armour. Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to allow craftable portals on deed? Most characters only need to go between two different deeds on two different servers. What is the primary objection to this?

For this +100 In my opinion, only creation of deeds should be announced, but character's name should not be given, except when deed is close, then few nearest neighbors receive additional information and warning.

huh, no... you can sacrifice valrei items for rarity bonus(as f2p.. or not just need capped favor), you just need to have capped your favor, if you just repremmed and didnt login when you sacrificed, you had your favor ticking up if it was priest just repremmed, if there was any favor regen to it's full.. that's the cause(if the favor wasnt capped) the items go toward feeding the favor bar, instead of rarity window, it's a bit derp how this works.. event with special items.. which clearly give no favor and only server rarity window bonus effects

Change: It is not longer possible to push, pull, drag or place items on lava tiles. This doesn't apply to items that already on the lava This doesn't apply if you are the owner of the item, the last player who dropped it or if you have permission to bash the item. Changes like these are interesting because I do not see any back story or other thread of discussion about this of late. Old carts and wagons and crate racks and loads of other stuff have been burned due to players quitting and cleaning up new deed areas etc FOR YEARS. Who got mad or lost there stuff or has a devs ear that demanded this change would be made. Some info would be nice.

I think this thread is brilliant, it's an absolute work of art. It's so toxic, you could bottle it, and use it as dragon poison. Wurm is a great game balanced for PvP (every time in the last decade I got nerfed, it was for PvP balance), but designed for PvE (targeting achievers with the grind mostly). The worst of both worlds for both sets of players

Once every 8 days, two random artifacts are sent to each map (axe, warhammer, sword). Players can find them in craters, trapped in rock that emits a rift-like beam. Each premium character has 1 chance to pull weapon, probability of success depends on skill level (swords, mauls, axes). Weapons made of random metal (iron, steel, bronze, silver - seem to make the most sense). Special properties Common for every weapon type transformation feature. Player can choose whether to use a given weapon as a two-handed or one-handed weapon, weapon will adapt, this feature can be used all time at no cost. As a two-handed weapon it deals slightly more damage than its normal two-handed counterpart and as a one-handed weapon it is better than longsword/1h axe/1h maul. Additional active property is random and only one for a given weapon: - teleportation to any tile in sight (can be used while stealth), - summon lightning (mark opponent and press for example 9 to lightning strike him), - throw (weapon returns to hand) Each of these abilities costs karma. Both weapons can be repaired, improved and enchanted as any other normal weapons. The hunt never ends Characters who manage to take weapons are randomly assigned roles. One is predator and other is prey. Now they both have 8 days to practice warhammer skill (or equivalent skills for special sword and axe). Predator also has ability to locate prey, but at beginning it is not a very accurate clue (hint on map is similar to that in a treasure hunt). They both also have to hunt mobs to gather kills. If they don't manage to kill enough creatures within 8 days, their weapons fall apart and other player automatically wins. As predator gains points/mob kills, he receives a more and more accurate location of prey. If predator finds its prey, they will be able to fight. They shouldn't be able to change weapon during final fight. If predator wins, his weapon keeps its special properties and he can keep it. Prey's weapon loses its random ability and can only transform 1h/2h, but it is still better than any normal weapon of this type. If predator loses duel, his weapon is destroyed while prey's weapon keeps all its properties. If duel does not take place, both weapons are loosing special active property, but still can transform and both players can keep them.

I am not making it out to be that. It is that. You were and are attacking the PvE community. You even did it right there one sentence after telling me not to say so. Maybe you don't realize it, but it is still what you are doing. Generally, we don't see predominantly PvE players constantly commenting about the PvP players or the PvP community. In fact, I am among the many PvE-only players that have been advocating for some dev love for PvP. The flow the other way though is noticeably different. I wouldn't even say that it is a majority, but a nonetheless noisy component of the PvP enthusiasts like to denigrate not just the PvE environment but the PvE players. I get PvPers talking about how wonderful they find their playing environment. In fact I think that is great, any player of any game who finds such enjoyment is fortunate. However, PvEers feel the same way. Regarding "relaxing" or "humble" - that to me sums up my experience of PvE, and almost everyone I have met there. I have a neighbour who doesn't understand my approach of being happy to bubble through stuff and will offer advice on more efficient ways to do things. I almost always say something like "thanks for that, but I am fine with how I am doing it" and that is the end of it. No insistence on doing it better, but also no cessation of offering. I do think your PvE experience was atypical, based not just on my own but on what others have relayed of their experiences. I had a very tough start in the game and almost quite a couple of times. On three clear occasions, several mechanics (which exist on ALL servers) were driving me to such frustration that I was about done with the game. In each case, what kept me playing was kind treatment and assistance from in-game strangers. Even in trading, I have encountered generosity very often. It is nice that you found your niche. Just don't keep insulting those who found different niches. Apart from anything else, perhaps consider that many of us have been around for many years (not merely in Wurm, but IRL) and have experienced quite a wide variety of cultures and communities and know what we like and don't like and know how to recognize it early. I have no idea of your own age/era, but I am of one that highly values self-awareness and understanding other points of view (without needing to adopt them in order to accept them as valid). I am also approaching the point where my curmudgeonliness is not seen as out of place in any way 😁.

Love your positivity Brainzzo and I am so glad that you joined the discord when you did so we could all help you pick the right server and play the game. Bit of a backstory on this too, for any that seem to continuously question the community and might be wondering why a new player would even want to play PvP Brainzzo joined the Wurm discord during one of our many large 20+ player voice calls where the community just riffs and raffs, we had just finished watching a movie together.. Brainzo shows off his NFI character and starts talking about the game, shows the deed he was building and Defiance. Sadly, this was just after a lot of Defiance had quit. Jim privately decided to make an alt, come down and engaged Brainzo in PvP, as Brainzo was begging 'to be attacked, or die, anything' A crowd of 10 people all cheered on Brainzo and gave him advice in the fight and luckily, he managed to win it. Later on, he was convinced to come to Chaos where its more active. He was then later invited to Pandemonium. Brainzo has experienced solo roaming pvp, group pvp and has clearly absolutely enjoyed the ###### out of it, as the community in large has offered him advice for training his account and as he mentioned, returned his gear to him /Until He Stopped Them/. This is the community that is being absolutely attacked on a monthly basis, the people that are being referred to as 'recruiting victims'. I think I am going to start invoking the targeted abuse aspects of the Wurm Rules and start reporting these constant attacks now, its getting tired. Being called pathetic because we choose a game style over another is also just sad. Topkos specifically, Brainzo is a new player sharing his opinion, be a little nicer to him, the rules literally state don't be a ######.

pvp is fun, here are some recommendations for pvers who might be interested in chaos or even defiance. hot dog & panda: are good kingdoms to join for new accounts and people just getting into pvp, both are very helpful pmks, both of these pmks are generous, panda has been around forever basically. skoll: is for mid level accounts and aimed for, generally for serious pvp but without being angry about it, it has some of the best players in the game and strong leadership, well versed with knowledge. sparta: is for scary high level accounts and people that take wurm to serious, has several of the best shot callers and deed builders in the game in charge. the phrase "Too many cooks in the kitchen” applies. good if you want to join a strong zerg pmk, they also control defiance. kot: is for the extremely righteous ones, with some of the best strategists in wurm. think of a posh English version of Sun Tzu and that's your leader and insanely strong leadership it is without a doubt in my opinion the very best chaos has to offer, its very exclusive though. you need to apply to The Holy See. being religious is required. no pvp on holy days. also has the best art. order of the dragon: I have no idea what that pmk really does to make an opinion yet. sorry! NFI: JK: similar to sparta, has the best players in the game most of who started with steam launch and a lot of them top SFI accounts that've been in the game for 10+ years, they are strong fighters. proper invitations might be tricky without having friends. MR: mostly the mid level kingdom on NFI, anyone can join, decent leadership and is trying their best to stay strong and waiting patiently for the merge. BL: has some strange folks in it, not sure if they are relevant anymore.

And there we go. One reason I don’t join alliances or villages, is that you cannot ignore people on those channels, and of clirse it makes sense. And why would I ignore people, you may ask. Well, in my case I ignore anyone going on on RL issues. Family issues. Health issues. Cat issues. marriage Issues. you get the idea? Im not wurming to keep immersed on those issues. and here I go. I have a great marriage that by no way is perfect going for 38 years, 2 healthy succesful adult kids with their families, and they still give me headaches. And I work in a Special Ed School District composed by 3 schools, and 11 satellite Rooms, with over 800 kids all over the spectrum. I don’t talk about this in my Wurm, and I don’t want to hear Society or personal issues. Why? Because the few hours I play Wurm, are MY happy hours, no someone else time to talk about things not related to Wurm. At all.
