Made them shorter and it was generally liked. Not everyone will like any change. High player count rifts used to last for 8+ hours, which can be epic for the hard core gamer but we shouldn't lean into it. Point distribution rework with a focus on player effectiveness rather than tagging, among other changes, are being considered. I'm reading these suggestions but keep your expectations tempered. I prefer low complexity reconfigurations of existing assets rather than create new to keep development cycle times lower. Suggestions in line with that are more likely to be considered.

Java Random class is used. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.geeksforgeeks.org/java-util-random-class-java/amp/ Which is not a secure random number generator at all. However, I think people misunderstand what random means. It does not mean "even distribution". So failing 5 times in a row at a 50% chance is something that can and should happen with random numbers. 50% chance just means in an infinite amount of tries every second attempt will succeed. A true random generator or secure random generator is mostly important for security purposes with data encryption and such stuff but it will not help the Wurm gameplay.

Hi there, just stumbled across this post - I was Wurm Online's very first public relations person. I kept a blog with my Wurm adventures, which I still have (lots of screenshots of Wurm through the ages) - my very first post (2011) and then the tag for all of my wurm posts (there have been a lot). I think there's a screenshot with every single post I made. I have a few videos but they're not that old, 7 years, 5 years. Wurm has always been and remains by far my most favourite game. It holds such a special place in my heart that I wouldn't even be able to begin describing why. I can say, that the people were the number one reason I stuck around - and that's why I continue to play (even if I am a little quieter).

A skill tracker option to set it to auto build the list with skills by frequency. This would list the skill you're currently grinding at the top for example. and/or A right click menu option of skills in the skill window to 'Add skill to tracker>' -sub- 'Slot #'

Short story. Lof was op in pvp to the point where sometimes sailboats had 4 fo priests spamming heals non stop. A blanket change was made for all wurm. It's not needed for pve tbh. No need to have such debuffs. On freedom.

Indeed! Sadly, the mathematical concept of probability and statistics is widely misunderstood. Probability (or likelihood) always refers to an "infinite" number of tries, so in reality it is not uncommon (in fact it can rather be expected) that a simple counting of "fortunate" events in a set of, say 10 or 20 tries will not even come close to the actual mathematical likelihood. Even at a theoretical chance of 90% you can fail 5 times in a row! You can also be successful 20 times later.

Archery QoL is horrible. Suggestions: - Get rid of the need to queue every single shot. Make it so that once a mob is targeted, if arrows are present, you shoot until out of arrows or mob dies; like how regular melee combat works. - Get rid of the need to activate bow. just need to hold it in hand; like how regular melee combat works with melee weapons. - Give the list of arrows in the quiver a header, like multiple items in regular inventory get. That way you can drag them all by dragging the header instead of having to shift-click all through list; like how regular inventory items work. - A little less outright arrow loss when collecting arrows after the kill. Just these basic changes would make a lot of common sense and make archery much less punishing and tedious to engage in.

Just wondering if someone has a good explanation as to what the reasoning is for this debuff? Last rift I was in, with all the FO priests casting LoF (my alt being one of them), my main fighter could barely heal at all. I think I need to bring 4 fighters to rifts and tag team them or something, so I can still have some benefit of healing at these longer events. Were healers just to OP? Anyway, legitimate question here, not a ###### session. Just want to know why healing gets such a bad debuff. Thanks!

I mean... The code has already been split, thats why we can't unite the old and new clusters apparently. This particular issue could use fixing - it really adds nothing to PvE as it stands.

As with the title and that Libila is available on Freedom. Please bring her to all kingdoms. As much as Mag is available to other WL outside MR, and Fo is available outside JK, etc... Please allow Libila to be in all kingdoms and template kingdoms on Chaos. What did Libila ever do to hurt you, she is so lonely at the black light.

Oh yeah, I know PvP suffers from PvE geared mechanics. It is mind boggling to me that they try and make it a uniform code between the two. They have multiple PvE servers that ALL operate the same. Same rules and mechanics for every PvE server (minor exception GV). PvP has Chaos, which is free travel to and from PvE, then in NFI, the Defiance server, which lets you portal your character and stats, but no items. Finally Epic, which (I think?) lets you have an alternate character of the same name/account, but has all of it's own stats - also no items transferring between it and PvE. Why so many different implementations of PvP? Why not just cut all ties to PvE, so you can make a PvP version that is unencumbered by the simple life of the PvE world. Why tie down PvE with all the critical game breaking issues of the PvP world? Get out the fantastic q100 imbued butcher knife and filet the game into two different games. I've heard that splitting the code would never happen, but why not? Is it so much easier trying to balance two completely different game play mechanics with one code base than allowing each to develop independently? How many times have great improvements to the game (in either camp) been set aside, because it would break or unbalance either play stile? Features that would have added to the popularity of the game. How many times have people abused some mechanic by crossing over from PvX to PvY to do things that normally could not have been done on PvX, so devs spend the time to fix that code. Seems like it is already pretty time consuming to attempt to keep the two camps balanced and connected. @elentarithis is not a rant against you in any way. Just a rant about an issue as old as Wurm is. I hope one day they can solve it.

My gut reaction to everything nerfed in PvE is to assume it was for PvP balance, but I resisted stating that assumption above. Sigh. I appreciate this enlightenment.

It is not the only way to complete the goal though? I was just saying it is an option for those who have money and not time to try to grind for one. The few I know who did this journal goal, did so without buying a single one. So, it is possible to do without dropping a dime, but in my opinion its nice having the option to buy it. Since Silver can be earned in game without having to spend real money for it.

Thank you for showing the rest of the servers how beautiful Release truly is! The players here have put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this server, and your streams really showed that. It was a pleasure to have you here and watch your adventures. Best of luck to Scout Two on whatever server they might end up on next! Feel free to come back any time! Release would love to have you again!

Iron in legacy archeology just means metal. it will roll from the non alloy metals at the time of combining the final fragment. Metal distribution is influenced by rune score. So lower tier items and/or someone with better restoration and/or higher ql tools will improve chance at iron and more runes.

Confirmed also unable to plant a catseye on Xanadu. Catseye is over 10ql, paving is 55, the item is a catseye (not blind catseye), road is flat, all connections appropriate. Attempts made on deed continuing from incomplete highway - red catseye followed by line of blue catseyes - plant option appears with catseye activated but no action initiates when plant is clicked. Attempt made from waystone on deed in 3 directions not currently occupied by catseyes - same result, plant option appears with catseye activated but no action initiates when clicked. Attempt made from waystone off deed to create a branch/intersection with existing waystone - same result, plant option appears with catseye activated but no action initiates when clicked. Several reports have been made in Help about people having difficulties from both clusters and multiple servers.

Does it matter to u if they use png, bmp or gif to show you images in the tutorial?
  23. 1 point
Yeah but realistically those are infinitely easier. You dont have to make 10 items on crafting goals, just a rare or better and it doesnt compare with the insane math behind 10 difficult maps. As finn pointed out, people shouldn't be encouraged to spam a ton of alts just to do one goal.

Oh, speaking of blogs... You may want to take a look at this: https://wurmacademy.wordpress.com/ (First chapter: https://wurmacademy.wordpress.com/2013/05/16/ch-1-the-first-day/) The Wurm Academy was founded on Pristine in December 2012, only one day after the server itself was born. Its active time ended in 2014, after more than 400 new players had called the Academy their home - but it is still there today. Everyone who is interested in Wurm history should pay a visit.

do the 100 rifts, ignore the maps.. 1/3600 for inspiration.. then 20% roll to get a map.. then you get another 1/25 roll for difficult map.. stack all these chances... unless you use tons of alts, this is not something you'll finish in years, that is if you chase the goal, it's already gated behind just gathering skills farming includes 2 actions with tending tiles and harvesting.. but if you do not like farming... prepare for some long painful time chasing to end that journal goal, it's easier to chase the rifts for the 12/13 goals or w/e number -1 to cash the reward(assuming you're after the back-rug)

If you think I'm trying to brag of a rare tent then this is all lost on you. In what universe should we make ropes out of glimmer? In what universe should we turn what's a suggestion geared towards newbies and force moonmetals into it? Nobody is offended by what you're saying, don't flatter yourself. It's there to point out what you're suggesting makes little sense and the part that does make sense and I credited, makes absolutely 0 sense to force moonmetals into. The idea of moonmetal cordage ropes is also so strange I naturally assumed you meant normal ones, which all tents are made of. tl;dr moonmetal whatever in a suggestion that's made with a newer player in mind is silly, please don't Also thinking on the OP a bit more, if a player is concerned about the weight, perhaps just make the explorer tent the same weight as the newbie tent, since that naturally seems to make most sense to be lightweight? Military tent can instead be the more "stylish" choice, and means you've got to pick a slightly larger weight for your fancy look and perhaps PMK design.

Xanadu went down for about an hour and twenty minutes. The cause was memory-related. As part of our upgrade in Java, we went with a newer memory management scheme. This happens to use more memory to provide better performance, but it was consuming too much memory. We scaled back to a previous management scheme and tuned the memory allotment to fix the issue and will continue to monitor the situation. I'll make another post with these details and information on sleep bonus for the downtime in the next few days. I'd like to observe the server running for a full 48 hours before I do.

Indeed. I voted "Depth" but in Wurm there does seem to be an issue sometimes where making something fiddly and difficult has been misinterpreted as making it deep. A good examples of "both" is terraforming. Flatten and level are extremely powerful, and at least in my opinion do not take away at all from the depth. Dig and drop is slow and very specific and arguably deep but for me are really just fiddly and only useful for finishing touches etc. Needing to use a spindle for cotton and a spinning wheel for wool is not depth - it is arbitrarily fiddly. Any "spinning" device - spindle, spinning wheel (which IRL includes a spindle), rope tool - should turn ANY fibre into the desired product. Have the spindle produce small amounts of more variable ql and the wheel produce larger amounts of less variable ql (but less likely to achieve best possible QL or maybe even rarity). That is depth, and gives those who want to delve the opportunity without being adverse to those who just want to get it done. Generally, depth is not ONLY about detail. It should also be about choice. Cooking is entirely serviceable at the level of tossing a an edible item on a fire but also offers huge complexity for those who want to dig in to that element (almost 2 years in Wurm and I only recently discovered sausages! and bacon!). Something that works simple end (so those whose interest lie elsewhere can just get it done) but allows more to be discovered (for those whose interests align) is what I would consider "depth". Also, inconsistency isn't depth. Cutting a tree into logs when it lies on the ground but picking it up to make masts/keel sections etc is not deep, it is inconsistent. Using a large anvil on the ground but having to hold the small anvil and smack stuff with it is not deep, it is inconsistent. Having the small anvil as a "basic" anvil that makes basic objects and then a large anvil that by default already does everything the small anvil does but also makes large basic objects and has a functioning hardy hole for tools required to make other stuff (so a player could specialize in top ql jewellery, or blades, or plate/sheet objects or just generalize at the cost of some small amount of ql) would in my opinion be deep. Depth is offering the choice to get detailed about it. Oh, also, "depth" doesn't mean having more windows full of text lists open. This is the one major drawback of Wurm, and without a complete rebuild I don't know how it would be addressed, but there it is. Probably not a helpful answer, but an honest one.
