Hi all, I have decided to start a new Youtube channel up for uploading my lets play video's. I just uploaded the Wurm Online let's play - Episode 1 and thought I would share it here in case anyone would like to watch and follow the adventure. Thanks for reading Valiance. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCI4JY3eEnhy4bLcoX6diKxA

Would it be a good idea to add a popup infomation prompt when a player attempts to terraform on an active highway? It would just be an infomation alert to inform people how the highway rules work, the conditions on which highways should and should not be modified, and to try and prevent people (especially new players) accidently creating potholes on already leveled out roads.

There was, and making a pen every time you want to go afk is a horrible idea. I think the OP has merit and I for one give it a thumbs up. if you're leading multiple animals, you can't log out without losing them into the forest. Can't hitch more than one to a tent, and if they're not all horses then the heading into deep water doesn't work. Plus you're not always near deep water even if you're leading all horses. I would say though that there should be some sort of interaction in order to trigger the afk protection, such as right-click on the tower you're next to to enable the afk protection, or simply a new /afk-protection command in the chat window, assuming you're within the protection range of the guard tower. I'd say that you'd have to be within 10 tiles of the guard tower in order to get that protection.

+1 i'd say a warning once for every login session for both highwas and perimeters would be extremely good for new players, living nearby harmony bay i've seen dozens of people literally trying to make themself a home inside harmony bay's perimeter (which is pretty large) and be upset later at the wasted time. A window explaining why, unless you know what you are doing, is a very bad idea to dig on highways (with a checkbox saying "i understood" / don't show this again for today) and another window saying why it's a bad idea to dig/build/etc on someone else's perimeter could go a long way in both preventing (probably unintentional) griefing and not making noobs waste time by working in a place that they will never be able to mantain.

One of the major deterrents to exploration for me is not having a reliable way to take a short break while traveling. When I was a new player, I assumed guard towers would be a safe zone with guards automatically attacking mobs that came near, but quickly learned the hard way that it doesn't work like that! Travel in Wurm is already time consuming, and dying in a remote area because you had to step away for a bathroom break can be a seriously miserable experience. A way to keep our characters safe while stepping away to attend to things in rl for a few minutes would go a long way to encourage more travel and exploration. Here are my two suggestions for this: 1. Guard tower safe zone. Standing idle (no actions, movement, or chatting) on a guard tower tile makes you invulnerable after eg. 15 seconds, as long as you are not in combat already. There could be a message like "The guards are protecting you while you rest." when you enter the protected state and then "The guards allow you to fend for yourself now." when you are active again. Invulnerability is removed by any activity such as performing actions, moving, or chatting which indicate you're back at the pc. Pets should be protected too. 2. Standing idle on a tile with a tent applies a "hidden" status effect that works the same as the newbie aggro buff, so you are harder for mobs to detect, but not actually protected if they happen to walk very close to you. I think these safety options would be easy to understand and use, and would make travel much more enjoyable. To prevent exploits, the protections could expire after eg. 30 minutes and then have a cooldown of an hour or something like that, since this is just meant for occasional short afk breaks. Lyon Leblanc's Lavish Limitless Lemon Lair has been located! Leer at his lustrous little lemon lodge, landed near the ledge of a large alp! We shall, in league, liquidate Lyon Leblanc and his lemons into luscious lemonade! A big thank you to Aliko for getting in touch and donating this unique for public consumption! Yeah, I like the click the guard tower, and ask for refuge until interacting with game again, regardless of time really, suddenly there is a visitor at the door, and things happen, I see no reason why this needs to be time limited.
  8. 3 points
Good point! This way you could just click and run if you have to step away in a hurry, instead of waiting for it to automatically start. Having the option visible in the right click menu would also make it easier for people to know that the mechanic is there.

I'll leave it to the masses and staff to figure out the finer details on how they are distributed and costs.... but what about PMK skins for tabards to allow players to wear their favorite kingdom tabard on PvE? Untapped market here if you ask me, which you didn't, but I advised you anyway, you're welcome.

i 100% agree with DaletheGood on this(what am i thinking) a means to be able to safely go afk and be somewhat protected by the guard towers is needed , for instance i am constantly having to afk because i am on medication that forces me to pee upwards of 2-4 times an hour and it doesnt allow me to hold it at all. this would make those mad dashes less stressful when traveling by a whole lot. i dont worry when not traveling away from my deeds because i always employ at least 1 templar on all my deeds but traveling is a bit dangerous because i am known to aggro everything.

I feel this. Currently on one of the biggest grasslands in Wurm I think. But we constantly have to trim the margins. Also another idea I saw near someone's deed - is a grasslands with sparse trees. Even way harder to maintain than the normal one.
  13. 2 points
I agree! Was only thinking of the time limit because people might abuse indefinite invulnerability in some way, but if that's unlikely then I agree it would be much better if it was not time limited!
  14. 2 points
The idea is that you wouldn't enter combat at all. You'd be invulnerable and basically just invisible to mobs while in afk-mode. That's why I suggest limiting it to just the single guard tower tile, having it time limited, and having it disabled as soon as you interact with the game again. You can go afk without worrying about entering combat, but the guards won't actually clear the area for you while you're gone so you still have to deal with whatever's there when you get back.
  15. 2 points
Logging out also shuffles any new items you've picked up around into your inventory, which is a nuisance if you're like me and have a messy inventory, and also tend to pick up a lot of random stuff while exploring, or carry items and mats to imp on the way, etc.. I don't want to have to reorganize my inventory just cause I had to pee. As Drogos said, the way it is now definitely causes a tendency to hold off on bathroom breaks for way too long and that's just not healthy! The whole idea here is that it should be easy to step away for a few minutes, to make long trips smoother and easier. It shouldn't be an ordeal to go afk for a short break, and having the ability to do that is absolutely not "OP". It's completely normal for MMOs to have little safe areas around the world (eg guarded villages), usually not far from where you are at any given time so that you can park your character and take a break knowing it's safe while you afk. Sure, sometimes there is a deed with a safe area, but it's just not reliable, and hunting around for a reasonably safe spot can often take a lot longer than you would actually need to go afk for. Guard towers just make so much more sense!
  16. 2 points
What about your horse? If there is a starving mob nearby, could those not kill your dearest ride while you are afk? I like this suggestion! Make it possible for RL to take priority over gaming I know some people just hold it longer, and get bad bladder when they get old, is that what we want now? Probably not. Let Wurm be better
  17. 2 points
Currently that's often the only option, but there are plenty of reasons it's not ideal. Eg. leading multiple unbranded/unsaddled animals that would then walk off and be free for anyone to take (a tent can only hitch one). How exactly? You want to set all this up just to go afk for ten minutes? Also, wasn't there recently a thread complaining about the safety pens for rifts? People don't generally like random fences all over the place and I agree with that. Plus, the materials to create a safety pen aren't always readily available, and having to think of carrying all that in case it's needed is just another deterrent to go out exploring. These aren't always available or accessible, but there is almost always an accessible guard tower not far away.

I agree... the functionality is already built in. We just need to be able to dye them with dye. I see absolutely no reason to keep this built-in customization so expensive. It's also very hard to match them. Also why not add other patterns? It seems to me it's just a matter of texturing an existing mesh. But easiest change - make it dyeable.
  19. 2 points
Imagine the possibilities if we could only use dye instead of runes. The built-in potential would be inspiring.

It would be wonderful if the colorful carpets were changed so that we could dye them. The colors now are rather abrupt in comparison to the rest of the game, so it makes them stick out a bit. The sizes could still be skill based, but if we could change the color, I feel these would be used far more often and they would be more appealing in so many beautiful buildings. Now that the Fine High Chair has been reworked to accept dye with a neutral base fabric, I'm bringing this back up to hopefully get some response. With object placement, we are becoming much more focused on the decor in our homes, and custom dyed rugs seems a natural next step.

I know all say Epic is dead, and yes for sure Epic have had there down time. Serenity is not deed! I became active again, went from freedom, tog the portal to Epic, and with in logn I fund a active deed to be a member of. Fund out there is now a new kingdom leader, he seems like a good man, and there is more active deeds. SB even have a new player deed again, and I see things starting to be build again. Yes we are not many Epic players, I don't know about the other kingdoms, but JK is for sure not dead, and I love to be back home on Epic. Sure is will be nice if there was a working market and so on, there is not at this moment, but I hope for the best, and hope more players will join the Epic lands. Why be limited to one small map, when you can have hole Epic to play on? So are you a comming back to wurn or a new player, think about if the Epic servers can be somthing for you? We have a kingdom discord, and our allince chat is normaly active in the active houers of the day. Epic is not deed, we are here, and we love to be back home!

This look some what resonable. Basicly a auto cry for help the moment you enter combat. If you not totally new to Wurm your autofight + 2 Guards shuld be more then enough to survive. I mean yes you could propably troll some one then with leading like 2 or 3 Scorpions to the spot but for the normal Wurm AI it shuld be not realy a problem. From the perspectiv of gameplay interaction this shuld be relativly save.

Yeah, I understand your points Arch, and no, the developers are under no obligation to take our suggestions onboard when deciding what new ideas to implement. Yes, it is frustrating to players to have suggestions that are popular with the community have no action taken by the devs for years. Maybe that could be a change implemented under the "attract and retain new players" part of the devs stated goals for the next round of development. As for the forum not being hard to search part: No, it's not hard to search, assuming that the post contains the specific wording you are looking for. But with us all being human and there being so many good suggestions over the years, it is hard to remember all of the ones you'd like to see implemented, even if you're a dev. So, having a list of the most popular suggestions over the years that are only dealing with the three categories they've laid out as what they're focusing on might be helpful to them. If the devs are not taking into account this suggestion forum when deciding what to implement into the game, then why have this forum? Was this forum designed and/or sanctioned by the devs or just put here by some moderators to declutter other parts of the forum and kind of shove the ideas of the player base into a corner to be ignored? If it was sanctioned by the devs, then one would hope they'd peruse it occasionally. And if they do, then how would they know which ideas are the most popular with the community? They certainly couldn't just look at number of replies as that would only return the most contentious ideas. My main thought with this suggestion was that as a player base, we all have our pet ideas that we'd like to see implemented in the game. These are usually based on suggestions we've seen either on this forum, discussed in-game, or mentioned on other threads in the City Hall, etc. These ideas have a tendency to fade from memory as we play the game and as the ideas fade onto the back pages of whatever forum we saw them on, until someone revives them, or we run into the issue in-game. Since the player community is bigger than the dev pool, I thought it'd be a chance for us to search thru old posts and bring those ideas back to the forefront, so that on the off-chance that the devs do take into account our desires, they'd have them in one place, and not have to do the searching themselves. Maybe this is all a pipe dream, and as you kind of said, an exercise in futility. The only other option, that I see, is that this suggestion forum will be inundated with a revival of thread after thread of old issues that need fixes, a rehashing of our pet peeves with QoL, and even more contentious arguments about how best to get and retain new players and bring back old ones. I thought that having the players bring all of these into a couple of common threads might reduce the clutter and give the devs a single point to look at what the players want and hopefully take those wishes into account.

consider starting new thread, no bug report is like the other, your unique report might have different solution, in this case.. at a glance.. it seems for me to suggest syncing graphics archive because of this problem: You might have entirely different issue, it it persists and you get a new bug report - consider starting new post

Main advantage of studded for PvE is the dramatically faster movement speed (not to mention that a set is 15 kgs lighter). Plus, there are plenty of situations where you'll take less damage wearing studded - plate is weak against crush attacks (much worse glance rate) which will probably make a reasonable difference when fighting some strong PvE mobs that use mauling attacks, like trolls or some of the rift mobs. Once you hit a reasonably high fight skill (60-70) nothing PvE short of uniques or a champ troll gank squad will be able to kill you as long as your gear is imped reasonably well, so I don't think the minor defensive bonus of plate vs. studded is ever worth it in exchange for how much slower and heavier that armour is. Plus, you will spend most of your time on-deed (but probably still wearing armour) and you might as well be able to walk a few km/h faster. Edit to add: I think if you want survivability in PvE then a good life transfer weapon will do much more for you than a plate armour set. Get an LT staff or huge axe and have unlimited free heals courtesy of squishy mobs!

Hi Everybody. Four years ago, I was real new, and was whining in chat about never seeing a Dragon. I said if I ever did see one (in PVE, of course - Kingdoms would make this complicated) I would tell everyone, and we would all just kill it. Oh, how people laughed at me. They told me of how greed makes people go sideways and if I made any announcement like that someone would come take it, and all the servers would be in an uproar trying to get there, and I had no idea what I was talking about, and what I suggested was laughable. Over the next four years, I came to understand that it isn't so simple. I learned that if you are going to do a public slaying, you gotta give people time to prepare. I learned those who host them are incredibly generous people who spend hours and hours setting these things up, and it is a Huge undertaking. But I never learned that people are greedy and awful. Wurm is full of really amazing people. We all come to the servers and help build an imaginary world together that is made of generosity, teamwork, really hard work, cooperation, laughter, adventures. People have spent years of long hours creating massive Impalongs that were endless days of joy, friendship, competition, and generosity. This last couple weeks, there was a beautiful Impalong that was so completely amazing, it felt like real life. Vooch and his staff were generous and kind to an extent that staggered and amazed me. And yesterday happened. Yesterday, I found a Dragon. First I contacted my alliance member and spewed a stream of all-caps uncontrolled excitement and explosions of glee that were mostly incoherent, but he dropped his anvil and came to help immediately. Then I phoned a friend in the alliance who dropped everything in real life to come help me. Then I contacted two other friends in the game who respectfully explained they were too busy. They kept quiet and didn't tell a soul. When it became apparent a couple hours into this that I was in over my head by a hundred feet or more, I pmmed Stanlee who sat in pm with me for hours helping with how-tos. He agreed to host the event, but we needed to pen it, and I found it in a friggin bowl of dirt on Inde, and after the 4th attempt to mine something suitable for a holding mine, we were 6 hours into the project with nothing but messes to show for it. We needed more workers. So I pmmed people I didn't know that well, but had interacted with enough to like them, and they dropped everything and headed over. Meanwhile, another friend had finally awakened in another time zone and she logged on and sailed over to help after reading my likely incoherent joy-bomb of a forum pm to her. These people put in anywhere from 4 to 12 hours of solid problem-solving and various levels of impressive skills. No one talked. No one tried to take the dragon or get greedy. We finally opened a mine and tried to get the thing into it in order to run a public event, but it wouldn't pull that far. When I say 'opened a mine', I mean we needed five tiles strongwalled, reinforcements, and dirt wagonneered to put all over for the surface. This was not a group of inexperienced players At All. This was in a huge area that appeared like it would be real easy to find a place to pen it, and after digging 200 slope down, still couldn't find rock, and when we did, it was reinforced, or snaking caverns. We went to pull it. We pulled for an hour. By this time, me and a few others had been awake 5 hours into the wee hours of the night past our bedtimes, and had been there for up to 10 hours. I said That's it. I'm doing it. I am going on Freedom Chat and telling everyone to come kill this little monster now. And they came. And when I told them to wait down by the water until everyone was there, they waited. And when I told them to put their tents down and wait by a guard tower and listen to my rules and my plan, they waited. And when we fought it for quite some time, because we were not a huge group, and it died, no one grabbed the corpse except the person I told to grab it. Nobody was greedy. I'm not naive. I know there are bad people out there in the world. But most people are good, and Wurm has a ton of really really good people. We all interact with each other in a little chat box in the bottom of our screens, and in that sacred space, friendships are forged, grand plans are hatched and carried out, ideas are debated, and generosity abounds. I really wish I could have given Independence a big public slaying with time to prepare and a beautiful Stanlee set-up with bells and whistles, or a wonderful Demonanightshade set-up likely with amazing lighting and decor, or that any of us last night could have done that with this dragon, but it wasn't to be. And when I just went on Freedom chat and babbled about a dragon in a sleep-deprived absolutely run-out-of-ideas stupor, y'all were there, and you were all wonderful. You make Wurm awesome, and I Do love everybody. Thank you all.

it's 7 backpacks per forge.. you can even fit a few pans in the forge itself I think.. but that extra clicking management sucks. You could try on 1 forge.. if size rune gets you to get in 1 more backpack..(by chance.. maybe); but over all.. rather than making 7x runes and to apply them successfully, it's easier to make 1 more forge and light it instead.. Generally.. unless you want the firemaking.. do not start sleep bonus until you have lit at least 10-15 forges(if you do it quickly), once all are lit.. GO DO SOMETHING in that time.. you can leave your skills tab or have skills-tracker ON -> showing your cooking/hfc/whatever, but.. while the sleep bonus is on.. you can do anything else and get the skill all the same, make more use of your sleep bonus. I was doing about ~1000 panfillings for ~15min(first load, maybe 2nd-3rd get same faster or slower time, but after that I just start to find myself distractions, breaks etc.. and chat in PM or Global), this quickly turns into a boring chore and kills your hand/fingers/eyes. Cooking itself takes ~10minutes once cooker is lit(forge QL matters; do not improve QL of pans besides them not decaying overnight/week/month).. to burn it all 9-12min than you can snuff the forges, and start unloading the cooked food and start panfilling again.... most important part.. just be sure that nobody, neither your alt or friend, etc picks up pans from the forges.. that will give skill to them, the person placing the pan in the forge gets the skill when something is cooked.(you can get helpers, just if they pick up pans.. chop their heads.. *ughm*.. hands .. well maybe don't do that .. covid's not in the game. This is not the perfect setup, it's just the vanilla, but it will work well for you, if you get more intereted and ask people, get more info, collect tips, you'll come up with ways to double-quadruple your gains, besides that.. some things remain.. it's a lot of work, you'll eventually hate it.. but still do more.. to get some higher ML.. no other alternative for that, and you'll also get some soul depth I think.. for rune making or applying whatever it was... comes from cooking stuff also.. taming, or whatever other use you find for the spare end product. I stop.. I'll spill the beans, lets leave the secrets for you to hunt, it's part of the game :X good luck
