Hi folks, As you will be aware, we have been suffering significant lag across the servers lately. The development team have been looking into this over the past weeks, and we have made some progress: We found an issue related to people moving items under certain circumstances There was also an issue around cross-thread handling of one of the player buffers, where a buffer got some random data added in the middle; this was a side-effect of how the new CA chat channels were added that didn't play nicely between threads. Investigating the above issue also threw up a similar problem with how waystones and pathfinding works; both issues have been resolved, and the various threads told to straighten up and play nice with each others' buffers We have added a significant amount of additional logging, which is showing up some other problem areas that need work The out-of-synch restart last weekend was down to some extra logging that was making a lot more data than expected; to prevent disk issues, we needed a hot patch and restart. Barring another oopsie, we should be back to regular restarts from now. As we dig into the issues, it's becoming clear that there are a number of issues co-existing causing the problems. Some of these have been around for a while, while some are recent additions. This is an ongoing and high-priority investigation, and we are continuing to fix the problems. Thank you for your patience and reports! Things should be starting to improve now, and we're continuing to fix issues, so we expect the lag to decrease further back to the game being sensibly playable for everyone. Pandalet

It is with great sadness that I (on behalf of our alliance) have to give this news to the community of Wurm, yesterday we lost yet another player who will be missed by so many. Lagston you were not only a player though, you were our friend, our loved one, our cheeky chappie. May you rest in peace and know that we will miss you far more than you will ever know. In the hope that his family gets to see this post in their hours of grief, please drop a line or two just to show how Lagston was such a part of our world.

Sorry, just going to chime in here because things are getting just a bit silly now. First thing, using "locate soul" is not at all a rule break. It's a totally legal spell, and in this situation you put down 0 items to actually "claim" the unique as per the rules that are in place for them. So no, as a matter of fact there was no spying, there was no stealing and there was no cheating. Second, I'm very sorry but this is just becoming sour grapes. You posted this publicly on the forum to get the result you desired, the thing being killed without hundreds of people leaving a mess. You want to be invited, and are crying foul a team that was willing to kill it didn't do it around a time when you are online. There's proof that you were messaged, and you weren't around at that time. At that point what do you want, the group to go "hey sorry folks just head back home, the person who posted it isn't around"? It sucks we couldn't get you in. The hand was reached out, but as you said, you went to sleep because it's a long day. Neither side is in the wrong, it's just an unfortunate situation. I get it's frustrating, but it's just one of those things and dragons aren't worth this kind of anger. There's gonna be plenty of future times you get to be part of one and get the scale you want.

Edit: I knew I was going to forget a few things that I wanted to mention in this post, but I'm very much ashamed to have forgotten a rising star on our QA team. Majelika! She has been keeping up with the bugs reported by folks on the forums, as well as testing things thoroughly. Please welcome her to the team! And now back to your regularly scheduled post! --- Hello all! I apologize for the delay in posting this. We’ve been very busy behind the scenes, and I wanted to make sure things line up for this post and the posting of the new Valrei International, as they go hand-in-hand. Team Changes To get started, I’d like to congratulate Darklords on his promotion to Lead Developer! He has worked very hard to take over some of the tasks I performed before becoming Product Manager, and his new role will allow me to focus more on other areas that need attention. Jaytoo has also joined the team as a volunteer, as some of you may have already noticed. He brings fresh ideas and skills to the team; we’re thankful to have him! You can already see some of his work in the recent changes made to archaeology, and I’m pleased to say that he has even more ideas in mind. Lag and Crashes We’ve been monitoring Cadence for lag spikes, and we think we know where a few are, but we are still analyzing data and working out the actions we should take to rectify the issues. We’ve been logging and fixing issues where the communication buffer was mishandled on the server side. This would lead to client crashes and make the game unplayable for some. In conjunction with this, we are working on an update to the Wurm Launcher that will support multiple Java Runtime Environments. This will allow us to trial newer Java versions before promoting them. The runtime environment is important as we have evidence showing increased stability while running on newer environments. Exploration, Part 2 Exploration is still rolling forward, and the Valrei International released soon will showcase one of the significant features in this coming update. We plan on showing off a different feature every two weeks. We will try to have these features on the test server within a week or two after teasing, but keep in mind that these features are in active development. The tentative release date for the second half of Exploration is mid-fall. The Future As I mentioned, we are interested in getting back to basics in terms of development for Wurm. While it has been fun and energizing to work on these new features, we need to focus on fixing issues, increasing quality of life, and most importantly, addressing issues that prevent new players from getting into the game. There are also plans for marketing and the reinstatement of newsletters. We will still work on fresh content, but it will have less priority than what was mentioned above. That’s all from me for now, Happy Wurming!

How is that not Fair? We spend hours looking for Uniques and yes we look for weeks sometimes a month or so to find one. SO let talk about Fair. we spend our time trying to find these prestigious creatures that are on every server. AND AFTER WE find it WE are suppose to invite YOU to come Kill it so you can get a piece of something you never even worked for??? How is that fair? YOU and anyone else on Wurm is more than welcome to go look for UNIQUES on your own time.. But when we find one on our time we are not obligated to share any loot or invite anyone to a slaying. WE DO NOT Unique hunt on Release as STANLEE Holds Public Slayings there for everyone to come to.

So for a starter we did a sweep of the general area to ensure there is no claim, as per the unique ruling. There was then a tent place down by one of the group acting as the claim. Nice and easy. I feel like there's a lot of people just wanting to complain for the sake of complaining about it. This was posted PUBLICALLY. It went through Stanlee to be organised by another private group, by the initial finder. It was done privately as per request. There was an attempt to make contact with the finder, as proved above, to offer them an invite when we were getting folks in to the area for the slay. You can call it "lame" however you like, but when they request others to do all the heavy lifting, that includes getting the people to the spot, getting ready to kill it and actually doing the deed, I think that offering the invite is a good thing as always, but if they want to be part of it, they should have been ready from the start to try and do their own part, rather than just pawning it off to others. I fully welcome any staff investigation about this, for whatever reason, because at the end of the day, all this comes down to is people wanting to make mountains out of mole hills, and throwing accustations around with 0 basis or understanding, or even being in the general area. We cannot work around someone who isn't available, and I would never expect anyone to work around me in that way if I handed this off to others. tl;dr you hand the unique away, and start to kick up a fuss when you're not available for it to be contacted. The proof is here that the gesture was made, and sadly that's being ignored to demonise a group. It's sad to see that the bashing like this is still so easy to find.

I learned the hard way that the Wooden Nameplate (item costs 18,000 marks) does NOT provide a confirmation screen when you are changing your animal's name. So if you had a typo or wanted to "test" something, you have to either live with it... or bother the GMs and hope they have mercy on your soul.. haha Thankfully the support team was patient and helpful with me, and also helped me with sort of testing the info to update the wiki page so hopefully no one makes the same mistakes or is left wondering like me Even so, I think it would be a good idea to add at least something like a confirmation screen. "Young fat Happysad will be known as: Young fat Sadhappy Are you sure?" This can help prevent a mistake or help show the final form of the name -- for example, the game automatically Capitalizes the first letter and makes any other letter lowercase, which wasn't clearly stated anywhere before. (e.g. if you type SadHappy or sadhappy, it will automatically become Sadhappy.)

Everyone in Wurm have the same chances to find a unique. Needs nothing else but go out from deed. Now with treasure maps it is encouraged anyways - also just read and understand the rules. If you properly claim a unique it is totally up to you to set the rules of the slaying. Also .... there is another one in about two weeks.

I was shattered to bits when I heard about his passing. I hope he is in peace now and shall know he was loved and adored by the wurm community. I considered him a friend, he was always witty and happy when we were chatting. Yes he was a goofy oddball, but in the best way possible. All wurmians have quirks, but we got along so great and his presence was very much enjoyed every time. Release is going to feel weird and wrong without him that is for sure. I am so sorry that we have lost him, because the world just lost someone who made it better to be in. He was always helpful and understanding. He offered his full support in times where I had it rough without asking for anything back. He cared for the people around him unconditionally. I will do my best to carry this on with his spirit in mind the best I can. Laggy, thank you for being you and for sticking around for as long as you did. You went away way too soon, and I am never gonna be able to process that. May your amazing soul find it's way to wherever it was meant to be, and finally, at peace. 😭💔🌹

OK!! So i was not going to respond to the recent posts that have been posted. First off lets start off with WildElf....... I don't know who you are and really could care less. As you were told in previous posts you posted a picture showing a dragon that had chased you. Unfortunately you did not or do not understand how CLAIMING a Dragon or Unique for that matter works. So here is one important part for claiming a UNIQUE. IF you were going to claim the unique you need to dig a dirt or cutdown a tree and STAY online. I don't know who told you that I had Located the Dragon. BUT i was not the person to find it. Yes some one from My alliance did by the picture you Posted. We have been in this area for years that the dragon was found in. SO if you Want to Have me Investigated by all means do so. I have nothing to Hide and i do NOT CHEAT or use any other form of CHEATING to improve my chances of finding a unique. i find them the way everyone else does.... put in hours of work looking or be so lucky to have one run up on me. so when you say " Stryken and some of you are playing a dangerous game here , so you maybe facing some serious issues with me and others down the road" means absolutely sh*t to me. Next time know the rules and organize a slaying so you can be part of it. Now for Tor.... Don't really care who you are either but to chime in saying people are cheating is a little ridiculous. You Have no Facts that someone or I was cheating. so please don't chime in saying some stupid stuff when you don't know what happened.

This is very sad news indeed He always made my days brighter when I was at my deed on Release and he was either in local or came around to the market. Who is going to send me random pm's about my horses now Release is definitely going to feel emptier to me without him My deepest condolences to his family and other loved ones. He will be missed dearly. 🌹

I first met Lagston a few years back when I came back to Wurm after a long break. we didn't talk much at first but eventually we would start talking a bit. He was a quiet soul until he got to know you then he'd send me messages daily. He had a gift though making people feel better. one day I was having a bombtastic of a day and he would be able to detect it and keep me distracted from the situation. But I wasn't the only one he helped. he helped one of my best wurm friends giving them a new life. making it far better than it was before. I will be forever eternally grateful for that I just wish I was able to tell him thank you for that. in some way I hope he finds out still. he gave me one of the best items I have ever seen a rare adamantine staff with a dragon skin on it. every time I smith, I put it on my forge so I can look at it while I imp. you were a very giving person. I'm sorry I was unable to find you another skin for your staff but I'm glad I was able to help you imbue your hatchet that day it was something I will always remember you for your massive tree farm. but he wasn't just a giver to friends but everyone. he loved to give, at the impalong he gave sooo many items as prizes, gave pick axes to those who were mining. I'm going to run by your deed and record as much of it as I can so I will remember it for the rest of my life. you had such big plans for it i will be dedicating a spot on my deed just for you. I also remember lag having a funny sense of humor. even though it was a rare thing to hear him talk in discord he would make jokes by changing his name and profile pic to someone else's in the call and have fun with it. that it's a great memory I will never forget and makes me smile to this day. Lagston i will miss you greatly and thank you thank you thank you for everything you did for me and my family and friends.

Ores turn to rock when normally the rock would not be possible to be mined out - like if it would create a side shaft or directly it is next to the opening of a tunnel. On one of the other cases: Tunneling will always open the mine the way that the base of the entrance will be between the two lowest corners - so if slope up ahead of you was for example 10 and the slope to the right was higher (for example 12) then the tunnel will behave just like you described. Your facing direction when opening a tunnel - or your position relative to the opening you want to create plays no role at all - if you are tunneling from above or from the sides the result will always be the same.

I realize the title of this carries with it an astounding amount of hubris, but bear with me. By now, because of the website https://www.rockcliffmuseum.com/ the cat is out of the bag regarding the Special Exhibit Conference of Goblin GMs. I have a few things to say about this, and I hope the GMs see this post. First of all, when this was first conceived as an idea for a fun art installation, I expected a small turn-out for the Grand Opening. Something happened in the last month that blew that completely out of the water. But planned at that time as a big fun thing on the top floor to amuse us all, this was to be funny and not permanent. It is now a really small thing compared to the magnitude of the contributions from all over the SFI world, and Definitely not permanent. What I am about to write next was going to be an announcement on Opening Day in Local, but given the amount of people that might come, and the GMs who have told me they won't be able to make it, I am making this announcement here. The third floor of the Museum is dedicated to the GMs and staff. On Opening Day, each GM gets to take their personal Goblin home with them as a gift from me, and over time, can put whatever they wish on that third floor. I will never place an item up there after the 3rd of September unless the GMs ask me to do so. The GMs have permission, beginning on the 4th of Sept, to fly in and place items on that floor as they wish, and only that floor. I ask that the central piece remain, but beyond that, the GMs may do as they wish with their floor of the Museum. I have not yet asked any GMs for a donation, and this is why. I have asked some Players who are also GMs for a donation, but that is because the players are people I know, and I don't associate them with their work title. Whatever gets placed by the GMs is owned by the GMs unless stated otherwise. If it is stated otherwise, it will be owned by Rockcliff Museum and will remain there until forever fades from the marble bricks.

Seems to me that hunting and killing uniques is as much of a skill as weapon smiting and armor smithing or pretty much any other skill in the game. You have to put in countless hours to find them and many more hours to learn how to successfully pen them, all while risking death. You can't expect someone to just give you a shiny set of 95+ql armor and a fully enchanted 95+ql weapon for no reason, why would you expect to be included in a unique killing? There are impalongs to get your gear up to 70, those happen every so often, just like public slayings of uniques. If you want drops from uniques, go hunt for them, pretty simple. Get some tips for how to improve your chances from those who regularly do it, and start grinding. But if you sit at your deed, grinding up your other skills, don't be surprised if someone else finds the unique and gets the reward. Oh, and if you're sitting at your deed grinding and a dragon crashes into your house, maybe don't post it on the forum and then log out and come back later annoyed that someone figured out where you live and came and killed it. Just sayin...

I spend hours and hours looking for uniques.. running in hopes to find one and 95% of the time you dont find one, but while you are at your deed skilling up or doing whatever you are doing im out running not gaining any skill. Yet still invite you? you get a quick summon, you kill .. then you go back home while i spent my hours? how much time do you spend on it? You want the reward without the work.

just as a heads up to any "new" player here, but if you do find a unique and don't have the man power to take it on or capture it yourself or even the time, you can always reach out to Stanlee and his team will do the job. Their rules are only that it becomes a public slaying and all loot shared (in rolls), so basically you hand over the unique to them and their rules. But that way you get in on it for sure and so does many others. Its a nice way where everyone gets a chance to join in on a kill and the reason everyone does do this, is simply because the amount of scales/leather you get from a public kill is so much less then if you're only a small group, which is why some, as they say, spend weeks or even months running around trying to spot one

I will miss him. Good man who was very nice in giving away nice tools and free logs after doing his woodcutting grind. Did enjoy what little conversations we had while he was on discord. Sometimes wouldn't say anything but would give a nice grunt sound. made me chuckle. Will miss u Lagimus Prime.

During my ongoing archeology adventure this lovely item was retrieved. It was improved to its former glory and 93 botd added. This is the best pick I have recovered to date. With a stunning +15% usage speed and -10% damage taken alone it is a prime target for a rare bone. However this pick also has the added bonus of being 20% lighter than normal, take up 10% less space in containers and improve 5% faster than normal. Starting Bid: 10s Minimum Raise: 1s Reserve: None Sniper Protection: 30 minutes No private bids.

Oh Lagston. We didn't always see eye to eye, he sure was a character, and one with a very unique sense of humor at that. A personality perhaps only slightly smaller than his enormous deed... Absolutely taken too soon, not much more to say than that. So I'll just leave this bizarre picture I just found of us doing... whatever this was instead.

Totally agree. No matter how you phrase it, marks are bought with RL money and you gain infinitely more marks by buying prem than buying silvers despite the $ investment being pretty much the same. Imho this is a bad system really since the company still makes money yet rewards buying silvers with almost nothing.

If you found a dragon you should have rounded up a team to go kill it. If you didn't have the backing all you had to do was ask in Freedom and people would have came and helped you. It is unfortunate you logged off but as a courtesy you were reached out to. There was no claim to that dragon and we did not have to try to include you. Be pissed all you want....I'd be pissed off too if I logged off after spotting a dragon.

Just a quick update: After GM intervention, it seems we have peace from the griefer since a while. I extended the deed a little again after a building decayed. Will keep expanding or maybe move token once the next building falls. I also placed a new wooden building with 3 levels and a bed on each. Doors open for every freedomer, and a few tiles of the grass are on deed so that visitors who come with cart or on horse find safe shelter. The area still need some reworking over time, but I wanted to start with a small useful feature already. Probably time for opening a new thread? Would it be helpful to check existing merchants and post stock meanwhile already every now and then? I think there are still like 20+ merchants around. Hopefully more again once the deed covers the whole merchants area. About half of them are still off deed due to buildings where I don't have management rights. I also wanted to thank everyone who supported the recovery mission of Glasshollow Market so far, with work, donations, information and encouragement. Much appreciated! 🙂

As someone who frequently finds himself being told about ritual spells ready to cast, I run into a frequent issue: I want to ask around for people who need to be in on a Ritual Spell (it's needed for Benediction, after all) BUT I also don't want it sniped from under me when I do so, by people who might not even need the goal (this has happened). Previous attempts at this have been made - such as an old thread under the Xanadu subforum - and this seeks to be a list with more visibility, and more use. And self-updating. There's instructions inside for those who wish to do the Benediction task, those who wish to get a ritual cast, and those who want to help maintain this list. Do not ask to have your names added or removed in this thread - refer to the List for details --> Behold! The list! Click here! <-- The online Priestopedia that ANYONE verified can edit! This solution is far from perfect. If someone wants to help me develop something better, these issues need solving: 1) Names are not auto-removed, meaning people who put a name up then go inactive will linger in that list forever. 2) I now get phone notifications every time someone wants to request edit permissions. If this list is vandalized again, it will be removed without hesitation.

So, let me shed some light on the possibility of a merge and what it will actually take. There are technical challenges here that haven't been present in other clusters: NFI has a number of changes that have yet to be implemented on SFI. This was done intentionally to see the results long-term. I won't list them all here, but we need to review these changes and see what the results are. These changes have caused disparity in the code base making NFI and SFI currently incompatible with each other. A merge isn't as simple as opening the borders. Then there are other concerns: What of the effects on the economies? In particular, SFI's economy would literally transform NFI's economy overnight - for better or worse. What of the effects on the people in both clusters? This thread is a testament to the fact that opinions are split. These concerns and challenges are the primary reasons why a merge is not in the plans for the short term. Long-term remains to be seen, but we'd be talking beyond a 6-to-9-month timeframe if we do this. The sheer code work involved alone will require scheduling, and we have a lot of work on our plates already. With regards to conducting a poll, one thing I've asked of the development team is to dust off the in-game voting mechanic and figure out a way to deduplicate votes from alts to have a more fair and accurate account of what the player base wants. I do not want a person with more money or silver to weigh more heavily than a person who simply keeps a single account going, so it's important to me to get that right. This isn't our highest priority at the moment, with the coming update taking precedence. Edit: One other thing I would likely see us do before a merge is to allow travel to Epic first. Again though, there are code complications that must be handled first. This is why it isn't possible right now. I hope this clears up my intentions with regards to a merge. The TL;DR is "it's not a 'never', but it's certainly not any time soon".
