I think you all are overestimating how many players regularly switch religions for rites. This will only affect a handful of power grinders and will cut out a source of toxicity that exists with the current system. It's a good change imo.

Hello all, A few months ago we gave a retirement date to the Old UI. That date has come and passed, but it is now finally time to wish the Old UI a farewell. Please continue to give feedback with regards to the 4.2 version of the client so that we can make it better for everyone. I'll also have a development update post coming this week. We've had some changes to the team that I'd like to announce officially, plus maybe even some teasers of what's being worked on.

To curb switching faith for bonuses, you now must have 30 faith to claim rewards from a rite event. Religion is intended to be a long-term choice in Wurm. Bridge planning will now prevent illegal characters from being used in the bridge’s name. Transferring to Chaos from Freedom at a natural border crossing is no longer possible when PVP crossings are disabled for anyone on the boat. Added a new title for reaching 100 skill in Gardening. Congrats Richtje!

Or add a window functionality, as with bank, so you can just drag/drop tokens and boom you're done.

As someone who mains a priest this sounds like a good change, hopefully we no longer have to wait as long for some rites to be cast once they are ready

I'm pretty frustrated that you again demonstrate you don't understand the mechanics of the game, yet you are the one of the people commenting the most. I am one of the VERY few people that actually skill Preaching, playing with a main priest. People switching faiths for rites was the best thing for me to work on this skill. Conversion itself is absolutely hands down the most effective way of gaining Preaching skill. People converting gave opportunities to go to public slayings and get confessions from many followers at a time, when Holy Crop had been cast recently, on top of performing the conversions themselves. Now what am I left with?? Making a bunch of non-premium alts to convert back and forth every 7 days, and get (low difficulty, low tickrate, no CoC) confessions from. Most people are not going to follow Fo for any period of time after this change. 100 Preaching? Do you even know what you're saying? It's literally never been done, and it is by far the most timelocked skill in the game, far exceeding things like meditation, lockpicking, or faith. +1 This change should be reevaluated. I'd propose making it 20 faith, rather than 30. At least it would give an incentive to skill Preaching. And then also look at changes to Preaching while the team is at it...

U CANT SERMON UNTIL 30 FAITH AND YOUR A PRIEST REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeee posting but don't understand mechanics

To curb switching faith for bonuses, you now must have 30 faith to claim rewards from a rite event. Religion is intended to be a long-term choice in Wurm. Would you switch from Catholicism to Islam, then to Buddhism every other week in real life? Of course not!

The client issues thread is the best spot - apologies I've been rather busy on other soon-to-be-announced things so haven't had much time to clean up the remaining issues that I know of - but will be jumping back to that soon. For others, please post any client issues you have in this thread:

Well, it was broken. The intention of the follower system is that you pick a god and stay there. Today's patch notes confirm this. But as it was, the system encouraged switching every week, producing negative externalities in the process. So, it had to be tweaked.
  13. 4 points
Right now it sounds like a problem for the people that were profiting from doing something that wasn't intended to happen anyway, and a solution for the rest of us.

I'll make the same response to this suggestion that I've made before. Define "abandoned"
  15. 3 points
Yet the gain a 100 preaching priest can give a starting follower is 20faith, thats around 8 days of praying 5/days. So yeah, it shaves off 8 days, but is that really such a big "win"? There are sermon groups to pump out faith extremely fast. The change is good in my opinion. Its just another one of those "moments of opportunity" that got patched. Just a feature the dev's didnt think would be min/maxed to such lengths for the bonusses, that they finally nerfed it. Being here since 2009 I already lost count of all these kind of nerfs to systems/mechanics because a select group were taking advantage off it (yeah, I know, you werent taking "advantage" of it, you just used a feature that was in the gam, but honestly, you knew this was not 100% how it was ment to work, just like fountainpans). You got to squeeze out the benefits for as long as it lasted, be happy. If you want another way of gain preaching skill, put up a suggestion with an alternative way (and not "revert this patch!!").

'mistake' Love of the gods is not something to exchange like metal money. I like the update. Makes sense and encourages people to stick to a deity they like from the start.
  17. 3 points
Look at the vote, its a great change.
  18. 3 points
seems like a good update then if people were only really selecting a religion to get free bonuses. if anything this makes it a bit more fair to players who are locked in with a priest character and don't want to/can't switch around like others.

Was It happening? Yes. A significant number of players were using the faith swap as often as possible, solely to get 5 hours of sleep bonus. Was it worth it? They believed so. In a chat session they were able to convince a villager of mine that the skillgain from frequent faith swapping was greater than, for example, the standard +10% available to a Vynora follower. Was it causing drama? Absolutely. Because once you have an incentive to change faith every week, you have an incentive to convince other players to delay their rite spell until you can take advantage of it. A thread was already linked for those who want more information. Was this change needed? Arguably. The irony here is that when challenged, at least some of those doing frequent faith swaps said that they were simply doing what the rules allowed in order to maximize their sleep bonus / skillgain. (They disputed accusations that they'd been putting pressure on people to delay rite spells, and that's a question which is complicated by politics and ulterior motives, since multiple parties are members of private slaying groups.) The point is, the implication was that in order for their behavior to change, the rules would have to change.

It would be nice to have the middle post and maybe even the stairs themselves be of the different types of stone or wood, Marble, slate etc. it would look a lot better in buildings made of different materials.

Can't agree with this more, as a fellow preaching lover (42 right now so def have done my fair share) I really want to see this skill reworked and fixed, I came up with a fairly barebones improvement, perhaps we could discuss the pros and cons in the suggestion post I made a few days ago and come up with some nice possible changes for the skill? And no where did I say that it did come out of nowhere, I am fully aware of the support behind it, and I also support it...however my point, that you seemed to have missed, is that I feel that there was a better way to make this change....its that simple.

Yay for progress! Though, when do we get the ability to control volume on certain sounds? Ambient sound so pretty, donkey murder soooo loud!
  26. 2 points
Haha yes please Edit: Alternatively let us drop them in the bank and have it create a sepearate balance that's shown when wanting to add to upkeep
  27. 2 points
Cheers I agree with the concept that Religion should at least have the appearance of a long-term commitment, not a shortcut to some change based on the calendar of events.
  28. 2 points
That's what the patch notes say. It's the position of the Wurm developers. If you want to argue with Lisimba's characterization of that statement, based on your beliefs of what the devs' intentions were a decade ago... sure. Knock yourself out. But nobody is forcing you to stay with a religion. All this patch did is remove an incentive for min/maxers to change religion frequently.
  29. 2 points
If devs think it wasnt meant to work that way then it was broken
  30. 2 points
Why? I wanted to see the communities thoughts as not everyone wants to write something.

yea probably a mistake to put a poll there lol

    Or base the amount of sleep bonus off Faith 6 faith = 1hr 12 faith= 2hr 18 faith= 3hr 24 faith= 4hr 30 faith= 5hr

-1 on this suggestion to revert the upcoming change. The upcoming change is very good. Pai pai those who will quit because of this change. Healthy spring cleaning now and then. Doidoi!

People did, and it was causing drama.

+1 There's already 7 day cooldown. Why put another limit on it?Just really stupid idea.
  36. 2 points
would you say the toxic power grinders are exposing themselves in this thread?
  37. 2 points
Gods yes. It is so annoying constantly double clicking to add to settlement one at a time.
  38. 2 points
+1, 90% of our village settlement history is just someone adding upkeep chips to the village upkeep. It's really spammy and would be solved if we could just combine and add all of it at once.

One of the towers we were tasked with finding for a treasure clue was downright impossible. Thankfully we ran into Sidereal on her deed and she knew where it was located based on the player name. It had been built on the very tip top of Troll King Mountain on Pristine by someone that had stopped playing nearly a decade ago. She had us hop on her cart and took us thru a maze of a secret cave up to the top. Some of the mine had collapsed and she had to remove walls. Since the mine was hidden, we would not have found it, nor had the ability to reopen the route. We couldn't even see the tower with a spyglass, it was so high up. Thanks Auntie Sid! So this is a suggestion for a feature to be added. Ask a guard at a tower to locate [EDIT] a distant [EDIT] tower. Functionality could be similiar to the locate spell, analyze ability and find route on highways to at least give general directions of distance and compass directions to the [EDIT] distant [EDIT] tower listed. A new interface would be given when interacting with a guard, and a table provided to the players giving the numerical range based on the guards response. How it could work Player interacts with a guard that is within range of the guard's home tower, via right click menu. This brings up a drop down interface similiar to Find Route used on highways. [EDIT] The player selects a tower name from the drop down box. [EDIT] The guard responds with distance and direction, such as "Tower X is pretty far away from you East of North." Restrictions The player and the guard both have to be free from combat. To prevent spamming, there is a cooldown given to that guard's tower and to the player. Functionality on PVP servers could be restricted to kingdom only, or disabled entirely based on community feedback. Thanks for reading and have an awesome day! Soluna

I see where you're coming from, but this doesn't feel right to me. Just offhand something I think could be interesting, would be to give listeners of a sermon a bit of the deity's "inspired characteristic" proportionate to the preacher's skill. It could be a small amount, akin to what you get praying. Nothing game breaking, but a little touch of something, to inspire people to skill Preaching, and give them a reason to sermon beyond 100 faith. Which also helps nudge global casts along to readiness. It would also incentivize people more to be listeners, and offset a bit of what is lost now that faith swapping for global casts has been stamped out.

Another person who doesn't understand the basics of faith?? Sermon groups are 100% irrelevant to this. We're talking about follower faith, not priest faith. Who are you talking to?? You're quoting me, as "a select group...taking advantage" of rites?? You seem to have confused me with someone else. I'm not a faith swapper. I'm a 100 faith Fo priest, as my main character. Or are you saying that getting Preaching skill from conversions and confessions isn't intended?? Because no, 100% that is intended how it's supposed to work. No, I'm not going to "be happy" that the development of a game I pay to play is removing, rather than adding, depth. Wurm Online isn't a generous gift of the staff team. It's a product I pay for. I'm done responding to you here, as your stance is muddled and barely accurate in any regard. I put thought and effort into trying to explain my positions here, in the hopes of us all getting a better game. I'm done spending time with someone who won't do the same.

+1 to teasers Far future and possibility for customizable UI themes made by players? (size/png-bitmap or w/e borders etc change to UI elements?) - simply fixes and shifts work hours from devs to fans when it comes to colorblind issues that could and maybe should be implemented, etc; alternatively lets players go nuts with light/dark/PINK or w/e wacky color scheme entertains them at the time

If you are picking some else's lock you are a thief. Doesn't matter if the locked item in question is actually abandoned or not. Many times it isn't FYI. If the owner wanted it looted they wouldn't have locked it. And no one can convince me, after what I've seen, that lock picking on PVE will not be abused. I'm 100% certain that it will be. So you want what you see but can't have it... too bad! This is not a single player game and not everything you see is put there for your use.
