I still don't understand who in his right mind would go for a trouble of switching religion for a bit of sb ffs. NFI is weird one for sure. Can't wrap my head around why is this such a problem and how it came to be such drama. Just cast the ###### rite when is ready and forget about minmax morons instead of trying to change it for everyone because of it.

Can we please have an actual model for the temple? The satchel is cool and all but it doesn't scream "epic structure" like some of the others. I'd love to see an actual model for this mission structure that comes up in the missions list. I'd especially love if the new model was, you know, a temple.

I'm just going to do everyone a favour to post the chat log that went down on local chat that day when the announcement came through regarding the RoS being available. Subsequently the later mention of casting the rite of spring and Annuile's (the event organiser) response. I am suggesting this as it is clear that this is still an abuse of a system. If changing of religions is something that was intended to be done in a manner where the exploit of being able to gain sleep bonus from any religion when the rite is casted is allowed, there shouldn't be a cooldown. Since there is a cooldown, it is there as a deterrence that changing of religions is a mechanic that was intended for those who have chosen erroneously or have a change of heart to have access to, and not for people to flippantly change for the benefit of gaining more sleep bonus. Moreover, sleep bonus is available in the two forms - bed sleeping, or sleeping powder, which the latter is accessed through a premium function where it involves purchase of premium time in either the form of silver, or microtransactions. It would not make sense for any game developer to allow for an exploit that allows unfair gain of premium products, which results in loss of revenue. Thus this game mechanic of abusing the low cooldown of 7 days to change religions and managing global rite casts to fit that cooldown is, as aforementioned, an abuse. I do not believe that any event organiser, especially a player based one (not even a GM, it is a major community event) has to bear the responsibility to decide a global affect event (rites), and the consequence of displeasure from either groups that benefit from either decision they did not make. Annuile has done massive amounts of work to make this event happen, and having to face such a decision is not something that should be added onto her plate, accident or otherwise. This abuse of game mechanic can be either mitigated through increases in penalties, or removal of penalties as someone suggested. However, with the removal of penalties could result in another argument of whether back to back rites should be casted within a certain period of each other, otherwise those who do religion switching will not gain the maximum benefit from all the rites available at one time (this scenario, while a very unlikely one, is still one that may happen down the line. If the stars align and an impalong causes this to happen, who wishes to bear the responsibility to deal with the masses?). If we truly want to have everyone win from rites being casted, why not just have sleep powders sent to all players available on the server whenever any rite is cast? Since this whole mechanic is a sham and this removes the need for people to change religions just to min max their lives just to get that sweet 5 hour sleep bonus after all. Why not just narrow it down to one bar that is shared among all the religions that affects when rites can be casted so that there is one shared goal with one shared benefit? Then there will be purpose for being part of any religion for an extended period of time while also allowing everyone to benefit from when rites are casted, in exchange that the frequency of rites being casted gets reduced from 5 to just 1. I created this post to see what the response is from the general public and to see people from both groups come together to discuss the problem as seen during the impalong. The results did not disappoint. We had no idea which group of people (switchers vs non-switchers) were the majority, and could not come to a proper conclusion that benefitted the majority because switchers were very vocal about refusal of conduct for the rite. The decision was handed over to annuile who had to make the call, which I felt was unfair for her since she already had many other things weighing her mind and she has already done so much to make the event happen. Has any of the switchers thought for the event organiser having to make such a decision, and the resulting consequences that is unfairly placed on them? I highly doubt it. edit: restructured a sentence that had confunding elements.

First off let me say : Good content addition devs! Great stuff! As the title suggests I think wurm would benefit from adding MOI's for other action types, not just foraging/ bot/ mining/ digging/ fishing/ arch. Maps are already insanely difficult to get, it's a content that relies purely on luck and I don't think this is a step in a good direction. Content shouldn't rely on just luck. And if it does, it should favor the player because at the end of the day you design a game for the player to have fun, since players that have fun obviously stay in the game longer. I think MOI's should also be given to people who aren't necessarily gatherers or have hours upon hours to spend mindlessly digging or mining hoping for a map. Say player One isn't much of a digger, his deed is already terraformed, he doesn't need to mine stuff and maybe doesn't have hours and hours in the day to spam foraging / botanizing for maps. Maybe he enjoys his playstyle building boats or imping weapons. This sort of player is pretty much left out of the exploration update My proposition is to add these moi's to players that also prefer to do other tasks than the foraging / gathering ones. For those who will comment: "But this isn't realistic, it doesn't make sense!" keep in mind one thing. Wurm or video games are never about realism. As a game designer once said, if you need to choose between realism and fun, always choose fun. If a realistic game is not fun, people will flock to the unrealistic but fun game. And if you really need to reconciliate Wurm's Lore (which is non existent anyway if we're being candid) you can always justify it as the following. 1. [02:21:41] A messenger of the gods wants to reward you for your industrious labour. Keep it up! 2. [01:22:06] A gust of wind blows a piece of parchment and gets stuck to your face. 3. [15:25:14] The spirits inform you of a distant relative sent you an urgent message. (Or a casket appears in your mailbox) 4. [11:26:00] < Insert god name > Wants to challenge a mortal to a riddle of his own devising. That mortal is you today! 5. [09:36:53] You hear a thud on the ground nearby. As you look up you see a hawk flying away from you, almost angry he lost his prize. You pick up the chest he dropped. 6. [02:47:37] A recent storm has blown some debris your way. You find an odd looking casket amongst the assorted trash. 7. [12:57:23] The gods are pleased with your fighting prowess! They reward your bloodthirst with a casket! 8. You find a casket in this creature, it's sticky, eww! 1-6 All these are basically Moi's when imping stuff, such as horseshoes or a mallet. 7 is an MOI from fighting. 8 is butchering. I think we could do this experimentally and see how players feel.

My brother had this cool suggestion, and I thought you might like to check it out! Just like we Wurmians can use different recipes to obtain affinities, why not let us feed up our mounts with appropriate warm mash to prepare them for the day's work? Some ideas: (Chaff = chopped mixed grass or hay) Mashed sugar beet + chaff + oats = increased speed boost (large boost for short time mounted or hitched) Mashed sugar beet + chaff + barley = general increased speed (small boost for longer time mounted or hitched) Mashed sugar beet + chaff + wheat (bran) = boost health (recover from disease) + healing recovery -thanks to @Sheffie Mashed sugar beet + chaff + rye = boost strength (can climb higher slopes mounted or hitched) This energy-packed food would be good for any of the horse family: horses, hell horses, unicorns, donkeys and mules. I am sure you will have lots of other ideas for recipes! Check out these other great threads on the subject of animal foods!

Hello all! I was the organizer of this event and I want to clear a few things up as there appear to have been some misunderstandings. First of all, thank you to everyone who came and contributed - It was very kind of you all to come, and I am incredibly happy that the amount of saccing, prayers, sermons and such allowed for a rite to be in season soon. For absolute clarity on what was said, I will post the logs of the exact wording I used, in an attempt to prevent any kind of drama, such as the one this post has evoked: ------------------------------------- [12:06:48] Annuile If possible, please refrain from any rites until after the event closes. I don't want there to be drama on the last day - [12:07:09] Annuile I can't force you of course, but it's my selfish request if that's ok ❤️ [12:08:08] Annuile I understand it may upset some to delay it for a day - If you really, *really* need some SP talk to me and we can arrange some SP ------------------------------------- Past this time, I did not see any further mention of the subject in local. Prior to this earlier in the day, I had mentioned my request as well *edit* in Freedom *end edit*: Logs are as follows: ------------------------------------- [10:15:15] <Annuile> I'm indifferent on the matter as a whole, both sides have valid points - But from a purely selfish perspective I would personally prefer if it happened separate from the impalong ._. [10:15:21] <Annuile> I don't want it to end on a dramatic note ------------------------------------- Nobody PM'd me saying hateful things, or even to say anything else about the matter at all. My entire request to delay the rite was to request that the last day of the impalong be drama free where people can just enjoy themselves and end on a good note, but here we are. Thank you everyone who helped with the event, I had a great time, and I'm just really disappointed that it ended up like this.

So a game mechanic that is being abused for more sleep bonus from rites/rituals is to change religions prior to a rite to obtain sleep bonuses from said religion. This has recently caused an issue during an impalong held at Cadence where due to the amount of favor that has been gained from the priests doing their work allowing for a the rite of spring to be conducted, but because of a loud minority of "religion-switchers", the rite was requested to be held off by the organiser so that this minority could gain from their abuse of a game mechanic. This causes other people who are non-switchers, and are part of the worship of vynoria, not to receive that much needed 5 hour sleep bonus during their time at the impalong, and the organiser being caught in the middle having to make a decision between two groups to appease. I am suggesting that this game mechanic should have heavier penalities, maybe not being allowed to change religions for the next 6 months to a year, or something similar to discourage the abuse of such a mechanic, so that this sort of behaviour can cease to exist, and disrupt others from enjoying the game as it should.

After seeing a near eclipse of Sol and Jackyl on Saturday morning while Sol was setting, I was gobsmacked when observed a perfect total eclipse of them on Sunday afternoon while Sol was rising. My wife was sailing at the time and captured a wonderful picture of the event and posted it in the screenshot thread. In announcing it on server chat, I talked with others that are equally fascinated by the beauty of this amazing feature. I believe the wurmiverse is one of the most fascinating and under-rated features of wurm. I constantly find myself stopping and staring in total awe at the moons as they path across the sky. I've spent hours chasing them across the server, trying to get the best view as they tease a dance of eclipse. My screenshot folder is packed with memories. For me, they provide a feeling that the wurmiverse is alive and breathing. These events led me to begin searching for more information, and so I found this thread and also this site : https://sites.google.com/site/universityofwurmatrelease/wurm-astronomy A huge thank you to all involved! Your knowledge and precise observations absolutely blew me away. As a complete novice observer, is there any basic help you can provide to myself and other moon gazers? Is there a basic formula to predict when the eclipses will occur? For example, the info on the University page says that Jackyl is on an 80 day period. Does that indicate that in 80 wurm days, the eclipse will occur again in the same location? Is there any current listing of future eclipses between the moons? Any information that can be provided would be *extremely* appreciated. Thank you for your time spent researching, your time reading, and any information you can provide! Have an awesome day!

This. Also, why would not as many rites as possible be cast during an impalong where people come to help other people by imping their stuff, and grinding their skills. Also, what happens to the Lore of the game when people swap faiths like they swap t-shirts. The impression I get is that NFI has developed a culture that is not at all rooted in the functions and traditions of the game. I wish we didn't have to see all the NFI drama/greed/lust for power in Global chat. Just separate the clusters to own GLs already please @devs

What do we want in Wurm? To sell stuff at higher prices to people or to give FUN towards more people? Prioritizing the "market" and designing things around the "market" is a factor that's been slowly killing wurm for years.

Leave it as it is and just cast the darn spell when it triggers Ask in freedom chat who wants to join, then teleport em in and cast

Woodcutting would be nice, as well as being able to get them from combat. Perhaps specifically when burying corpses to encourage people to bury their kills (I already know coin rolls exist for burying actions, but the map roll can be along side them). I feel like adding them for imping is a bit much. Imping already has a lot of benefits.
  15. 3 points
Personally, I'm not even gonna do the poll because I feel it is very situational, The only other place I can imagine it still needs to be added is Burying corpses. Other than that I think we're good as it is now.

Would just like to see woodcutting and a chance when killing hostile mobs added, everything else is a bit much.

Does seem to be a bug here with actions that can given multiple items during the actions duration with it resetting the rare flag before it rolls for the chest, will get a fix out for it thanks for the report.

Hello, it's once again time for a Mag rite on Harmony. The mag rite was cast on Cad on Friday, so hopefully everybody has had a chance to burn that sleep bonus, and is ready for more. Lets try to get this cast done quickly, as I want to allow for the Vyn rite on Cad this Friday (if it doesn't get cast before then) and everybody who switches SHOULD already be Mag. I would love for someone else to take over the organizing of this, but I'll do it if nobody else does. For now, lets plan on meeting at Harmony Bay on Monday 9:00pm EST as usual, I want to include as many people as possible in the casting, so if that time doessn't work for you, and you really want to be involved in the cast, then please post below. Also, please watch for someone else taking over the casting. They might want to change the date and/or time

THIS! OMG! This would make rifts so much bearable! And more people would actually show up!

Maybe only humanoid mobs then? Could be like recipes. Also kind of fun to think of trolls and goblins hunting for treasure.
  21. 2 points
My preference would be to keep it 'somewhat' thematic, so I wouldn't be in favor of something like carpentry giving maps. But I would LOVE maps to be a possible drop from Trolls and Goblins
  22. 2 points
just like there are no rock walls left anywhere. this is just nonsense. people will do the same amount of woodcutting we do now, but right now we are denied the rewards mining and digging gets you.
  23. 2 points
Why not just focus on putting restrictions on when you can benefit from the Rite spell? Like, make it so you need to have been following a certain religion for X amount of time before you can benefit from said spell? That way it's pretty simple and straightforward without potentially impacting other things.
  24. 2 points
As a pvper, I have truly enjoyed doing maps. Running into enemy lands, digging up treasures outside enemy deeds and such. It just a shame how limited you are in ways to acquire maps. I would like to personally see being able to get them while hunting like rare coins. Something to stimulate leaving deed and not just spamming actions on a vein to get them.

Allow me to respond to an anecdote with another anecdote. Before priesting up, I used to get a ton of MOI's by imping and rared about 3 of my own tools while training BS, two rare chain gloves and a chain jacket training Chain Armour Smithing, rared two sickles and a huge axe training Weaponsmithing, 3 rare bowls and a supreme bowl training JS. All within the space of about two and a half months. Since priesting up after the treasure map update I've been praying non stop and yet I've had a grand total of ONE map from praying. It's almost as if random is actually random. To expand on my original point, the value you get out of imping tools in general is already very high, and you also have the potential of making them rare+. I don't feel like there's a need to give it even more value.

I too believe it's about time we get a model for the temple. This could even be used as a "Community Event" like we had a few years ago with the cooking contest for players to get their recipes added to the cookbook. Maybe give the community the specifications that are required for a 3d Model and have a design contest, create a voting system and the sexiest temple with the most votes wins.

Here we go again 🤣 I love NFI, so many dramas. Can someone please start the popcorn machine again, we're gonna need lots. All I'm gonna say on this matter is this. It is part of the game as it is now, and unless the game rules says you're not allowed to do it no player has a right to tell you you may or may not do something, Yes they can ask politely but the choice is yours, if you feel you NEED the sleep bonus ASAP arrange your own team of priests to do this, what I can say though is I've paid very close attention to "the loud minority" as the OP calls them and I can say this, Sinnjinn always tries to include as many people as possible in these casts. he has a post on these forums as it is now where he even asked that someone else takes the lead on the Mag rite on harmony but still asked to include as many people as possible. No one player or one group enforce the laws around rites, but with a bit of control and communication more people can benefit from it. Personally this has never bothered me or hindered my play style, My priests are what they are and I don't think I'll go through the hassle of changing faiths on them, on my Main however Because I'm just a follower from time to time I consider this, it depends how desperate I am for sleep bonus really, for menial deed work I don't really care and wont go through the hassle, for serious grinding, heck yeah every minute of Sleep bonus is important and I'm gonna grab 5 hours if I can. Keep one thing in mind people. At the end of the day YOU pay your premium, no one else, so ONLY YOU get to decide how you spend it.

Hi! Essence Drain is a spell lib casts that gives healing and applies internal wounds at the same time. Sounds amazing right? So they nerfed the effectiveness of it to the ground so a 90ED would heal the equivalent of a 30LT. And so noone is using it. So i was thinking what if the devs remove the internal wounds part of ED and replace it with a stamina gain effect? So now ED would heal and return stamina.. . at a poop rate but still is something. This could be usefull as often times ppl grind their character they gear him up then they go out stam out and get dunked on. This would help those situations where they could use ED to gain enough stamina to parry/block and buy some time for help to arrive? maybe? How about you are in pve climbing to get a chiken half a mountain up and you are out of stam and a darn spoidah gets on you? Die to mob or fall damage inc? or use ED get so stam back to kill the bugger.. get the chicken.. praise Libila So yeah i think that addinge a weapon enchant to give some stamina back would help ppl that find themselves in those situations where they are out of stam and feel like they have no options available. And as long as is balanced to give enough stamina to keep block and parry but not be able to spam specials it would be welcomed by most (i would hope

+1 if there's no time such a model to be made, there's no shame in asking the community for help, i am pretty sure someone out there would step up

Wood cutting makes the most sense to me. As for mob drops I'd say trolls and goblins in particular though butchering could result in a map that may have been digested with it's owner so I could see that as a possibility.

I support this and I think I might be a member of the group. It may have been different in the past, but right now a seven day cooldown is no longer an adequate deterrent against people exploiting the ability to change faith and later change your mind. It's quite reasonable to do that, of course, but once we get to the point where power users are carefully planning when the rites should be cast to maximize their free sleep bonus, it's inevitable that some casters are going to feel pressured to delay casts. The recent impalong on Cadence was a good example. Organizers were left choosing whether to cast a spell to benefit Vynora priests and followers (full disclosure, myself included) who were working to improve items for others, and who would benefit from extra sleep bonus, or to delay the cast to benefit the min/max players. It doesn't matter who's asking politely and who isn't. Once there's a conflict of interest, a difficult decision is inevitable, and some parties are going to be disappointed that the decision didn't go their way. The situation would be best avoided. A cheap solution would be to extend the cooldown time. An ideal solution would be to make the cooldown longer every time a player changes faith.

First off in the thread, I have to say Skyefox and Hughmongus have done an incredible job of keeping the map up to date for all these years. And I do love the tradition we have on Indy of using the same style of map since the original hand drawn one in the days before mapdumps. The road detailing especially is really useful for navigation. Also, all of the mountain/sea names add a lot of character to the map and reference the server's old history, and I don't think that Yaga maps support place names. However, it would also be nice to have the topographic details of the map dumps & the search functionality of the Yaga maps. The best case scenario might be to somehow have an extra layer on the Yaga map platform that shows the old coloured style of map too. A stopgap/alternative could be to simply overlay the existing Albia map details onto the topographic map. I tried this (very quickly) below, it only took 5 minutes in Photoshop - and could be automated quite easily with a Python script: (direct link for download of full version)

Fishing is already. And to say that, I am not caring at all about the market. If at all, I care about treasures being treasures, not just some collectible so plenty that one starts, sees it is harder than the last, throws it away, and takes the next one. In short, it is about trivializing. Finding an equilibrium may not be easy, so maybe why not caskets during rifts, for woodcutting, butchering .. but it should be observed and balanced, even if the drop rate needs to be reduced.
  38. 1 point
Actually, I understand the bit with woodcutting, maybe yes. But: minding that I have no ambitions to do a lot of treasure hunting (great as the new feature is, but I have a lot of projects, and prefer others to find the initial bugs to be ironed out 😎), I already have 3 maps to work on (rares, ql29 46 65) just from casual activities like tiny farming, and mining out a vein (3k ores so far), and the one from the journal. Given that foraging and botanizing, which I do not few every day, will work and drop caskets in the future, I may soon end up in ways more treasure hunts than I can reasonably do without dropping other activities. Now players, those bored before in particular, enthusiastically jump onto treasure hunts, but at best for a few weeks and months, then it will normalize. A glut of maps is not a good thing to have it as a sustainable feature.
  39. 1 point
If woodcutting is added, there will shortly be no trees left anywhere. So no on that from me cuz I like trees and forests. Imping already gives rewards in the form of rares that are valuable monetarily and functionally. Rare shards, rare dirt, and rare farmed/foraged/botanized items don't compare in this department. Combat, maybe--although I do see a solid argument against it along the lines of what I said about woodcutting above, in that there could potentially be no mobs left because everybody would be out killing for maps. There's less chance of this happening with burying (which has the added bonus that it actually makes sense that you'd get a map from doing it) and butchering, so those might be okay. I see it as a good thing that newer players who are still working on their deeds can get an advantage here. And established players are likely to be in a better position financially (perhaps from selling boats or weapons) and can therefore buy maps (perhaps from a newer player who needs the money because the only rares they ever get are dirt and rocks) if they don't want or need to mine or terraform. There's also nothing stopping those whose deeds are complete from going out and digging or mining in the wild, making roads and tunnels, smoothing out sharp edges on fallen deeds, helping other players with projects, etc. So as much as I love treasure hunting and wish I could have ALL the maps, in general this is a -1 from me, with the possible exception of combat, butchering, and burying.

Or just remove religion completly from the game for keeping to provide such inconveniences I guess the community isn't as tight-knit as someone keep repeating is. You know, there's other players beside the half population of "the staff and their buddies", with their own opinions and ideas about the game. Originally -1 obviously, but +1 if that would stop thise other players from getting exluded or someone being passive aggressive to them just because they want to do their own "meta" and not someone elses
