There's quite a lot of wurmians who do not know that when transferring items from / to bsbs (or crates / fsbs) , holding down shift + enter when dragging will select the max value of the item without a pop up box appearing. For example say I want to transfer cotton from a bsb to some crates. If you hold down shift + enter while dragging cotton from bsb to each crate, there is no pop up box appears where you have to write a certain number, it just selects all the cotton and transfers the max to the crate (ex; 300 cotton to large crate). This process facilitates any shifting of materials from one place to another. Considering in Wurm we move items to and from bsbs thousands and thousands of times, this should probably be covered in the tutorial, imho.

As the title says as a Loyalty Reward in the Marks Shop that has all past monthly skins available as a chance to get from it. This way there is still a way to get the old skins since you can't remove them from items and repurpose them.

Remove the added clicks where I can only move inventory amount when moving from a crate or BSB into a smelter (and like actions). Seriously, it is wearing out a keyboard and mouse and should not be required. I am able to move all items or a set amount when moving from inventory or a cart into a crate or bsb, why do i have to play the as much as I can carry, enter, click, move, enter, click, move, enter game? It's painful!

My suggestion is to add Cattle Grids to the game, these can be paved onto the road and will prevent animals from wandering across them on their own. For the sake of keeping it simple, Mounts, Wagons, lead animals etc will still walk across them fine. I also feel these should be somewhat expensive to make and must be placed on deed. My logic here is that the only way to have animals roaming deeds freely is by walling off a deed and putting gates on the entrance, which can appear restrictive and unwelcoming. Gates is also not possible on deeds with highways running through them. Having the option to have a gap in the fence and a cattle grid allows Highways to continue to function and gives a bit more of a welcoming view than a closed gate.

shoot, i didn't even know that was a thing, and yeah, information like that needs to be integrated into some sort of tutorial for new players. I like the idea of first interaction being where information is imparted as opposed to an info dump at the beginning of play.

There are so many items in the game that would make great decorations, but they decay so fast they can't really be used except for short term displays and we end up with so many empty spaces that are hard to fill nicely. Runes would be a nice way to let us mark specific items as decorations so they don't decay on an active deed, and don't go into piles when put on the ground. It could make the items non-functional so things like potted herbs can be made into static decorations and not turn into empty pots. I don't think runes should be needed for decorative food though. I'm thinking about small random items like crafting materials, plants, potted herbs, pieces of clothing, etc. We should be able to easily preserve food for display (eg. with wax), but that's a different suggestion which has been made many times already

Fair enough, perhaps I should have rephrased it to something akin to an organizational tutorial? Or perhaps make it a part of an advanced tutorial after players leave the starting area. There are quite a lot of tips and tricks that could be covered in a more advanced tutorial this way.

Permissions will need to be given for this, so the person imping will contact you when they are ready to begin work. Enchanting is always done at your own risk - Items shatter, this is the will of RNJesus and if an item shatters that is unfortunate, but it will not be replaced unless there is capacity to do so. Items will not be cast on below 70ql unless they have the (Skiller) tag added to their name. - Enchantments of 70+ will be completed and picked up (Enchanters discretion to aim for higher). Do not sell items that are imped here for your use. This is a community event to bring folks together and you are getting work done free of charge. Respect their efforts and time please. Don't abuse our hard work: A lot of people are investing time and effort into this event - Respect them by following the rules and listening to the event staff. DO NOT BRING HELLHORSES IN THE MAIN AREAS. Hellhorses are devilspawn and will injure folks who are just trying to enjoy their life. All Hellhorses will be required to be stabled at the designated zone clipped through a fence so they will not attack others. Zone will be maintained so that they are able to eat.

I agree that another, smaller shallow water vessel (the wherry proposal was interesting), or an upgrade of sailboat, and maybe also rowboat and raft (making it sittable) would be not bad. Nerfing the knarr just makes no sense. It would harm dwellers on inland lakes, boatmine owners, and workers on large infrastructure projects, adding grief and chores without any benefit. Admittedly, caravels are beautiful. prestigious, but not overly useful. Main reason is not lack of speed, much less of hold, but the fact that the days of large inter server bulk traffic are widely gone. Even when it flourished, fleets of corbitas were more useful in terms of cost efficiency, and hard to beat.
  19. 1 point
I don't think it would be good for the community to nerf knarrs dramatically. I do feel that their cargo capacity is too high, given their profile, so a small reduction might be in order. However, the knarr is likely to remain the most popular choice — and this is a good thing in terms of player retention. I don't feel that corbitas really need to be buffed. As has been pointed out, they already offer a lot of "bang for the buck" in terms of ease of construction, cargo capacity, and speed. Arguably the caravel should be buffed in order to make it more desirable. I would think that a boost in cargo capacity, speed, or both, would easily be justified in terms of realism and in the interests of game balance (this ship ought to be better than a knarr in every respect, in deep water). Once again, I'd like to humbly suggest that either a new vessel like the Wherry ought to be considered (a shallow water vessel with the same carrying capacity as a wagon) or the existing sailing boat could be upgraded to allow it to carry a couple of crates. Either one of these would give us an easy to make, cheap, shallow water boat with some practical carrying capacity.

There's already so much to learn at the start, and new players don't start using bulk storage right away so if this comes up in the tutorial they will most likely forget all about it by the time they have their first bsb or crate. I think it would be better if there were little tutorial popups informing about stuff like this the first time the player tries to do the relevant action. Just like how we get that little theft notice the first time we drop something. So the first time you take stuff from a bulk container you could get a little window with a tip about the shortcut.

We should also remember that balance is not something we have or strive for in so many parts of Wurm. I don't think you could call weapons balanced. Sure there's lots of choices in weapons, but only like 4-5 are used by the majority of players. Same with Fighting, most players stick with Aggressive unless they're skilling up Defensive for tanking, and Weaponless isn't even a consideration for the vast majority of players. I mean if you're striving for balance then maybe we should nerf Aggressive fighting to force everyone to choose Weaponless. Or nerf the 2-handed weapons that everyone uses so wooden staff or short sword become more popular. And no, I'm not advocating either of those, just pointing out that balance is not the end-all/be-all of gameplay.

This unfortunately is just how balancing works. If you're going to criticize how poor it is then please also followup with your good design work solution and why you consider it poor, so that we may learn from you and do better. Otherwise, you're just holding us all back with no reasoning. People will always be upset if they are the side that gets nerfed or the side that doesn't get buffed. I think calling it "destroying" is a massive overstatement / exaggeration. Yes if the Knarr is nerf those who enjoy it will be upset as expected. However, Knarrs won't be DESTROYED they'll just be slightly worse than what they once were. If people find that Knarrs are completely unusable then people will post about it on the forums and a buff will then be considered. Not one that brings it back to what is was before, but better than what it became after the nerf. Balancing is the hardest part of game development and it's a long tedious process that we should learn to encourage and assist in. As a player you have to accept that your game may change on you at some point and a choice you made to cater your entire deed around Knarrs could one day backfire on you. It may suck for the immediate player, but it's a sacrifice that betters the game as a whole for everyone. Especially those that are new to the game who now enter a world that is balanced and doesn't force them to build a knarr because of how good it is. Sacrifices must be made and it's usually those that don't have to sacrifice that are always on board with a change until suddenly they need to sacrifice too and then they are outraged. To fix the problem of Knarrs being overused and other boats not being used enough you either need to nerf the Knarr which is the quickest solution OR you need to buff all the other boats which is a much slower approach and with each buff / nerf can come its own imbalance causing this issue again.

So, let me shed some light on the possibility of a merge and what it will actually take. There are technical challenges here that haven't been present in other clusters: NFI has a number of changes that have yet to be implemented on SFI. This was done intentionally to see the results long-term. I won't list them all here, but we need to review these changes and see what the results are. These changes have caused disparity in the code base making NFI and SFI currently incompatible with each other. A merge isn't as simple as opening the borders. Then there are other concerns: What of the effects on the economies? In particular, SFI's economy would literally transform NFI's economy overnight - for better or worse. What of the effects on the people in both clusters? This thread is a testament to the fact that opinions are split. These concerns and challenges are the primary reasons why a merge is not in the plans for the short term. Long-term remains to be seen, but we'd be talking beyond a 6-to-9-month timeframe if we do this. The sheer code work involved alone will require scheduling, and we have a lot of work on our plates already. With regards to conducting a poll, one thing I've asked of the development team is to dust off the in-game voting mechanic and figure out a way to deduplicate votes from alts to have a more fair and accurate account of what the player base wants. I do not want a person with more money or silver to weigh more heavily than a person who simply keeps a single account going, so it's important to me to get that right. This isn't our highest priority at the moment, with the coming update taking precedence. Edit: One other thing I would likely see us do before a merge is to allow travel to Epic first. Again though, there are code complications that must be handled first. This is why it isn't possible right now. I hope this clears up my intentions with regards to a merge. The TL;DR is "it's not a 'never', but it's certainly not any time soon".

I am one of those horrible, awful steam players that joined the game about 18 months ago. During the tutorial I was guided toward Cadence as being a "new server", not understanding the limitations that came with the choice I made. I was disappointed when I later realized I could not travel anywhere I wanted. I have since left Cadence and moved to Melody, where I have made a "home". I am a casual, single account player with very few skills over 70 and have no desire to restart on SFI at this time. I do have a desire to experience the entire Wurm universe with my main character and to see what both SFI and NFI have to offer. I want to experience the impalongs, fishing derby's, all the rifts and dragon slayings. Most importantly I would like to meet all the people I see here on the forums and overall meet as much of the Wurm population as possible. I want to have the ability to explore all the islands and to be able to appreciate the work that Wurm players have created though out the years. If there is one thing I have learned from all my travels, is that Wurm players love to show off their deeds! Wurm advertises itself as an open sandbox MMORPG, but nowhere does it mention the invisible wall that divides SFI and NFI. I would like to see the wall between SFI and NFI knocked down, bringing the community together and creating a truly open sandbox.

Mordoskull never said it had to do anything with race, but with segregation between communities in the 19th or beginning 20th century. It were poorly educated people like Archaed (apologies, but that is matter of fact) who immediately raised the racism accusation. Bit more knowledge of social and cultural history would have avoided such a kneejerk reaction. Traditionally, societies had deep divides, class divides in particular, also ethnic divides, of course, divides between the sexes, divides between religious and cultural communities, ethnics, several outcast communities looked down upon on different grounds. Then there were and are divides between nations and the according mutual prejudices and accusations *). And prejudice and accusations are what we are speaking about. Screaming "racism!" obfuscates that there is at least some truth in Mordoskull's hysterically rejected reasoning. It is doubtful at least that such a "culture" exists beyond some spurious observations. More exactly, no objective data exist about, no criterion to corroborate or falsify that assertion. So far, we know that some NFIers may have behaved in unpleasant ways, maybe still do behave. We do not know whether many act that way, or just a few, whether the phenomenon, if at all, exists over all three servers, only one, two, or only special regions, deeds, or alliances. We do not know whether such players left or prevailed. In short, not much more than assertions and prejudice remains. But it was enough to stamp half of the playerhood of Wurm as petty egotists. If anything, that is "racism". or at least an attitude coming close to. Again, "proof" by assertion. Give me a break. Vilifying others with a different idea and perspective is truly thinking "that their own desires in Wurm count for more than others", namely those accused and singled out. And it is "only" the whole active population of one of the two clusters. Drinking too much, or smoking the wrong stuff? Sure. Close Independence, Exodus, Pristine, and whichever has less activity. Consolidate the PvE players onto Xanadu. Anything else? *) This is not to say that such divides and prejudices have gone, or at least somewhat subsided in our "better" recent ages. Sadly, I have reason to doubt.

TheTrickster, reread the posts above... you've really taken what I originally said warning about segregationist-like arguments for continued separation way too far. Warning about segregationist views is anti-racism last I checked. But at least you are correct in saying race has nothing to do with server choice, though that's a given most of us don't need pointed out, sort of like saying the sky is blue. But I do disagree with this: They may have technically chosen by a click of the mouse, but many chose blindly, not having a clue, as new players, the qualities or detracting factors of the server they chose. Many new players randomly pick a server to get started, or pick because they like the server name, or by coming onboard via Steam, have no idea they are now stuck on a certain cluster. huh??? And this: entitlement? because people want to travel and see all of the game, not just half of it? Don't forget, staff also said in the beginning in multiple posts that the intention was to eventually merge if and when the economies and NFI player skill would get to a point where it was a good idea.

Probably because this isn't the first time a new cluster has been added to the game like this. If I'm not mistaken it has happened twice before and so far every time the clusters were eventually merged into one. Thus there's precedent of pve clusters being merged and there's actually no precedent of pve clusters not eventually being merged. Makes perfect sense to assume things will end up merged at some point then, doesn't it? At least to me it would make more sense to assume that then to assume the opposite.

Asserting falsehoods does not help. At the time NFI was designed, it was stated that there would be a merge some time in the future once the state of the servers has matured. The reason to keep them apart was for the allegedly fresh start from zero (which was in fact a huge headstart for SFI players starting there), the waste difference of experience, stored high ql equipment and banked silver present in SFI and similar. There have been quite a number of hints and announcements that while a merge is not planned recently, it may well happen in the future. Now most if not all of the prerequisites have been fulfilled. Average experience of the playerhood has come close to equal to that of SFI, lots of silver stored and distributed within the community, marketing overpriced stuff becoming more and more difficult. On the other hand, NFI players suffer from the embargo. Not only are they cut off from most of historical Wurm, cannot visit the Epic cluster, or the frequent impalongs, also they are barred from PMK merchandise, and have no chance for practical reasons ever to get hold of drake or scale armour. Also, reaching journal goals such as the 100 rifts one is more than double as hard as on SFI. Consequently, the population on NFI has shrunk, and may go on shrinking further. It is mainly the profiteers of overpriced markets, and economy centered players in particular, who cling to the idea of a separate cluster. Not few NFI players appear to support the idea of tearing down the walls they are confined in. And no, new servers, no matter whether on SFI or NFI, are a no brainer.

Yes, we have data, and you are babbling patently nonsense. Some data: Those are Bdew's data showing the time around Xanadu start, in premium players (in 2020, they switched to unique logins weekly, which one may lament, but basically, at least on the long range won't but show mostly subbed players). In parallel here, some long term observation (all players in Wurm) by Etherdrifter: I won't repeat all quarrels around those data. But they clearly demonstrate that Xanadu participation, all lag issues notwithstanding, remained strong all the years. Frequently, Xanadu had more players than the rest of Freedom. Granted, at start, Xan may have cannibalized the smaller servers, which is one of the problems of ever releasing new ones. Nowadays, not few look relatively healthy, Release even astonishingly, maybe due to great players like Stanlee, Gaffer and others. And mind that cluster opening is not single server opening. I absolutely fail to see a rush among the clusters after opening. What I fear is that NFIers in the end get frustrated. They got coins in coffers after half a year only, same with rifts, were "awarded" with a cruel and idiotic nerf of mining and woodcutting imbues and runes (thanks devs, worst in years, and I rarely if ever scold you), are cut off from Epic and Chaos, cannot get PMK wagons and banners, and, for practical reasons, never a drake or scale armour. Moreover, they are cruelly overpriced, for the silver they paid at insane rates they could long have bought a drake armour, and maybe even got one for free when attending each slaying. Not to mention decent equipment at 4 impalongs every year. For an NFIer who has drawn what is called here "Arschkarte" (arse card) that way there are two ways: Start anew in SFI, or just think F.. you and leave. I know what I would do, and admire their patience.

Just merge the servers and let what happens, happen. The players and the dev team will sort out any problems that arise when they occur. Anything else is just arguments about "what ifs" that are not happening and have not happened.
  47. 1 point
The server merges were done after a community vote if my memory serves. The joining of Release and Pristine to Xanadu wasn't detrimental. What was detrimental was stale mechanics and promised updates/content that never materialised. Player gods drove out the priests, and priest ALTs exploded into the scene. The real killer was WU, it irrevocabley split the playerbase as WU was adding all the QoL updates that WO was not. The merge didn't harm the cluster communities. Join the world's, end the slow rotting death of the old cluster, and the rampant decay of the new one.

Yea, I also chose Celebration because of the water. I like sailing and everything to do with water, and the main roads in Cele are actually our waterways. A sailing boat here is as important as a decent cart. This is why I settled on Cele and I love that to this day.

Again, you've missed my point; I am not making accusations. I am repeating what I have heard as the reason behind people not bothering to make suggestions. Do I personally believe them? I always follow the data, and the evidence makes no pertinent suggestion at this time. I'm not going to discuss data science with you, because you've demonstrated beyond a doubt to me you don't understand the field. Sorry to say it, but I don't think we're going to agree on that topic. So lets stop derailing a rather good thread exploring ideas, and carry on trying to both help out a game we enjoy. I agree here; some more dangerous creatures that spawn a fixed distance from spawn towns (and won't roam there) would be a welcome addition. More creatures you need a group to slay that give lesser rewards (a material lying between drake/scale and conventional ones) might be an option to try (a variant of leather or cloth since metals are already easy to find rare variants of). Though, I will say, as a free player I was really disappointed by how useless archery was without sinking a lot of time and effort into making arrows and skilling up. A better curve for archery hit/damage, and some form of automatic arrow recovery/bulk improvement would really help make it viable on PvE.
