    Hello, Wurmians, and welcome to another issue of the Valrei International! This is another one that will be a bit light on news, but still a very exciting one for me because I finally get to tell you all about something I’ve had a hard time keeping quiet about! Some time ago we re-introduced wood types influencing the look of the item. This brought a whole new array of decorative possibilities for Wurmians everywhere. Obviously, the next step would be to make stone type influence the look of things, too! The list so far includes: Stone altars, benches, brazier pillars, coffins, fireplaces, forges, all fountains, graves, kilns, ovens, smelters, spirit castles and cottages, and wells! With all of these new possibilities, you’ll really be able to decorate with detail and bring out your own personal style in any deed or structure... and finally, a use for all of those rare bricks that couldn’t be used before! Add to the ambiance of your pizza kitchen with real pottery brick ovens and fireplaces! Beautify your gardens and outdoor areas with your own personal style! Now, please keep in mind that before these end up live there may be a few changes to the look of some items. They are still a bit of a work in progress, and Saroman has been working so very hard to make sure these look wonderful by the time they reach the live servers! With all of these new stone types, there will be some changes to items that already exist. Some items such as pillars are made of regular stone bricks but have the look of marble. Kilns and smelters made of stone bricks currently have a pottery brick look to them as well. We’d like some public feedback on whether you guys would prefer us to automatically change existing smelters/kilns to pottery ones and pillars to marble ones when this update goes live, or have them stay stone and change visually to the new stone versions. Please cast your vote in the poll at the top of this post for feedback on pillars, kilns, and smelters! I would also like to leave a link to a post concerning some more fine tuning of caffeine that needs some feedback as well. We have two community hosted events this month, both on the Southern Isles. The Annual Lunalong hosted by Dracaa started today and runs until the 20th on Xanadu. And the second annual Meadhalla 2: Mead Harder will be hosted by Stanlee on the 18th of December on Release!     You know, in this day and age having good customer service is a given. People expect it all the time, and LOTS of companies fail. Wurm Staff are a cut above the rest IMMHO. I have worked jobs that expected employees to treat customers like what they say matters not, and jobs that expected a reasonable level of decent treatment of customers. Wurm Staff seem to go out of their way to help out more then any other place i have ever encountered. Their tireless work can be seen all over the place. Things like Shydow answering some of the easiest questions to look up on wurmpedia. He gets not everyone has a powerful machine or can remember the details of things. He has helped me out more then a time or two: due to the way my brain works i have to compensate for reading/writing and my memory is emotion based so details are always out the window. Or Zetheral with the memes and funny stuff in GL. hes pulled me out of a funk on more the one occasion due to me being myself. Every one of the members on this list deserve our deepest and most heart warming thanks, for keeping this community as heathy as possible. My stories are above, but others are more then welcome to share theirs as well. Thank You Staff! (lets be nice, true in game stories, no trolling please)

    Hello, This is the list of upcoming changes to caffeine and related items. We will review replies to this thread and may adjust functionality further. One thing to keep in mind about caffeine is that it is designed to provide a boost for casual players. We understand that it takes quite a bit of effort to make these drinks, but this is by design and creates a market for caffeinated beverages. Caffeine Changes: Fatigue usage will no longer be part of the caffeine system. To balance the removal of fatigue, the following mechanic will be introduced: Through using caffeine, over the course of about 5 hours (depending on caffeine level), you will build up intoxication. At 100% intoxication, caffeine will stop being effective. Caffeine intoxication will decay linearly over the course of about 5 days. Once caffeine intoxication decays below 100%, caffeine will once again be effective. Intoxication will only build up while sleep bonus is active. This mechanic will be represented by an effect and status icon. Caffeine’s bonus will no longer affect meditation and lockpicking. This change is due to the ability to quickly toggle sleep bonus at the end of a timed action, which evades the intoxication mechanic. Decrease the amount of liquid needing to be drunk to get an effect from caffeine. Increase the amount of caffeine provided by each type of drink. Increase the caffeine hold timer provided by each type of drink. The “hold timer” is the duration of the caffeine buff before the power begins to decay. (Already live) Disallow sipping small amounts of caffeine to refresh timers. (Already live) Ensure that smaller sips do not overwrite the caffeine hold timer. Caffeinated Beverage Changes: Caffeinated drinks will now bypass the water bar like alcohol does. As a result of this change, they will no longer provide temporary affinities. (This is currently in discussion.) Optional ingredients can be added to teas and coffees, such as milk, cream, spice, and sugar. Miscellaneous Changes: Increased volume of teapot and coffee pot. Old tea recipes can now be made in a teapot. Fixed the difficulty of pottery planters for tea, coffee, and cacao. Renamed legacy camellia to camellia flowers. Renamed legacy camellia tea recipe to camellia flower tea to avoid confusion. Added a roasted state to cocoa beans.

    would be better just to have a one time option per unit to change the material for a certain cost of bricks etc....

    What about an option on existing items pre-patch to change those items to the stone type that we would prefer, or maybe a way to plaster a new look on like paving does to bridges surfaces, prepare the stone item first then apply it like a skin.

    I think it would be a prudent move for Wurm to start to log / record the name of a player and the time stamp when they rename a coin along with the new name of the coin. This would be output to log file. This is a sensitive topic, and I am not going to refer to any specifics, but running a market as I do, I am dismayed by some of the messages I am seeing especially on small value coins in loose change. It's a small minority of players doing this I believe, but I think something needs to be done to make players accountable for what is essentially spreading hateful comments about fellow players. Please don't post any examples here. The moderator is free to close this thread, as I think I have basically covered the subject.

    I'm reviewing all the replies and want to wait to make a larger one, but this struck a chord as you're right. I will say that meditation is one of those things I'd love to rework. It's not something we can rework in the near future though, at least not in the timeframe that I wish to push some changes to caffeine. Our time is also split on making these changes, as well as the design and implementation of the Exploration update. Basically, if I were to give a time estimate, I can't see time being dedicated to meditation until Q2 for design and Q3 for implementation. That may seem far off, but I fully intend to bring the changes to the community for feedback. That increases the time it takes to bring those changes about, but also increases the chance that the changes will be what folks want and not what a small team of developers thinks is best for everyone. In the interim, we wished to solve the issue of meditation bypassing intoxication in the simplest manner, though this point raised makes me think we can do better. I do not want to change how sleep bonus interacts with meditation, but perhaps we can change how intoxication works with meditation as that's the crux of why we proposed to remove it in the first place. Lockpicking was also brought up internally as a skill that has a similar interaction with sleep bonus (and thus intoxication), so we'd also look to change that as well. The downside to making these exceptions is trying to communicate the functionality to players. One take-away from my Depth vs Ease of use thread was that people want a marriage of both. Making one-off exceptions to how things work creates confusion. It's easier to say it simply doesn't affect it rather than "it does xyz differently than every other skill". All that said, we'll continue to review the feedback here, and I will work to get some numbers and examples.

    We're now into the baseless claims part of the thread, where people are being toxic towards other players for not aligning to their own playstyle. Daily reminder for those of you who claim people who run fatigue to 0 are botters: if it was that easy, we'd all be permabanned by now if it's that easy to see. And it's also on you to report those people for the integrity and safety of the game. People, please think before you make accusations like this. It's nothing but a toxic mindset you spread to people who don't know better or understand the flaws of the system that's been picked apart many times, and raised as a problem systems by the developers themselves. And if skills are really not as important as you all say, please stop acting like you must "keep up with the Joneses" each time you post...

    Speaking as a casual grinder, I have actually been able to gain skills and feel far more accomplished since coffee has been introduced than a year or two before. I see so many hardcore players in here, people who love to login, setup the grind, and just churn away at it. What I'm not seeing are people like me, who can only do 30-60 minutes in a day, or if they can get 2 hours in its great, and they feel accomplished and proud. I got to 90 gardening and STILL took longer than anyone here would have, but it was possible because the coffee gave me an incentive and motivation to work in sprints. If you play this game more than two hours a day, or can grind for hours on end in one sprint, consider that coffee may not be directly aimed at you.

    Current system with measuring jug and predefined values is quite annoying and harsh since most of recepies ask for not so friendly numbers. What I propose is to add option for custom amount where you would type exact amount in window to set after clicking it. If we could save certain amounts to choose from later that would even be better, maybe 1 custom setting per 10ql, or whatever number of settings we want. I think this would be great addition to QoL.

    Yes please. We don't allow rude or insulting player names, items like boats and such, and chat is monitored for rule breaking etc, yet it seems a free for all in naming coins.

    @Shydow came over to my deed because I had a lot of boats in my harbor that aren't mine but I still wanted to use them for decoration. So he came over and moved them into good decorative positions. He didn't have to do that there is no where in the rules that says I am even allowed to do that. He did it out of the kindness of his own heart. Obviously if the owners of these boats where to come collecting I would left them have them. Its not like they are mine anymore (not the point of the story). But I appreciate Shydow nonetheless.

    I love this, but please please please we need at least a temporary 30 day window option to convert our old (rare, supreme, fantastic, runed, enchanted, blah blah blah) items. I love this update, I fully support this update, but please let me keep my beloved items moving forward with this update.

    Ten months ago I died and I subsequently quit the game swearing to never come back. However, it seems that all those memes from GL-Freedom are actually true and one can never really quit playing Wurm, but just take a break, so here I am, ten months later returning to the game. Many things changed in my life during this time frame and I'm now in a much better place than I was back then, so I honestly hope this time I can find that balance to allow me to fully enjoy the game. And since I'm back I decided to once again start sharing my adventures in this wonderful realm. As before, I know they're not impressing in any way and that pretty much everyone playing this game seriously is waaaaay ahead of me, but I still want to do it in order to show other new and casual players, that are just starting out, that they too can find their way and have fun within the Wurm universe, even if they're time constrained and can't afford the luxury of spending hours after hours in an online game. So yeah. "I'm back. Did you miss me, bitches? -- A" Obviously the "bitches" part is just a joke / pop culture reference and I'm not actually calling you that. Also, I don't necessarily expect anyone to remember my short presence here, but more likely to just greet me with a "Sorry? Who do you say you are?". Still I found it a funny joke. But if it bothers you or you think it crosses a line, please let me know and I'll gladly remove the reference.

    Troll King has returned! He's doing unthinkable things with the local cow farms and must be stopped, once and for all!! Rewards: Blood of Troll king (Stone cutting potion), and a good time. There will be altars for sermons, a mailbox, and a small forge area, so come early to help out our priests get some good faith ticks.     Nelsy, you seem to be one of the persons who want to dominate, patronize, and command others, and force them to act your ways. And your proposals are irrational and terrible. When coffee would double cooldown, a player, who could do up to 3 meditations in about 1 hour, could only do one. The casual player in particular would decide to waive coffee altogether. Even more, if you cannot meditate, not even work when having drunk coffee, it does not mean that others cannot. And when players have the time and enjoy the time to play the game a lot, it is not up to you to deny it to them. They are human beings, not bots. This is a sandbox game. It does not need tyrants.

    Removing caffeine from Meditation is like fixing the 1g sips with out addressing the main issue of caffeine in the first place. You are doing a knee jerk fix with out addressing the core issues. Caffeine is supposed to benefit those with low play time. Meditation as it works is a horrible skill for those with low play time. If you only have a hour to play, you at most get 2 chances for a tick, and that takes setting alarms. Yes those that have more time can get all 5 plus the every 3 hours after that and could use caffeine to boost them. But that is a bigger problem in general if you are trying to balance it, they are still getting more ahead. So sure leaving someone who plays alot able to get greater benefit from caffeine might suck. It did really help those that don't have alot of time to play. I am back to mostly having a few hours a day to play, though I have been leaving my character online while I do other stuff just to drain water. At most I get 2 or 3 if I remember, I don't set alarms, chances to meditate. If I am lucky I get one meditation tick a day, having left my character sitting to drain their water I have actually seen my Meditation go up enough to have some hope of seeing progress. I just think this change being made with out fixing the underlying main issue is backwards to what you say you want to achieve. Similar to jumping on fixing the 1g sip before addressing the underlying issue before. Please consider not implementing this and fixing Meditation being a PITA to level, especially for those with low play time, than knee jerking a response. Or maybe make it so sleep bonus only works on the first meditation skill tick gained for the day. Or make it drain all 2 minutes of sleep bonus after meditating. Anything is better than just sayin, No skill for you! Just my two cents. Other than that amazing patch!

    OHHHHH ive been waiting for this!!! yess!!!! haha please keep the stuff that is already made the way it is and everything moving forward as it would be. this may also give more value to the "OLD" style stuff as "antiquities" would be interesting to see So many cool new items, im super excited!

    I asked for this once (as it was a popular demand) and saroman said no, now look what he's gone and done! Bugger stealing all the glory for himself I see . I absolutely love the tiny stonework on the stone smelter, regardless of changes, I will be looking to have one of those. Any chance the forge and oven can get the same tiny brick look? I like things looking neat

    Fresh Cacao beans are 0.10kg. Foraged Cocoa beans from before the change are 0.20kg. Roasting a Cacao bean into a Cocoa bean results in a 0.10kg bean, which, when FSBed, combines into 0.20kg chunks (effectively reducing the amount by half). It's silly, but there is logic behind it.

    Actually fresh ones are 0.1kg (as cacao beans) and the old cocoa beans are 0.2kg; I imagine this is why they 'combined' I'd like to see the cacao beans be brought in line with the older cocoa beans rather than the other way around myself

    There's so many better and more constructive ways to say that especially considering this individual has pointed out several times that they have ASD. It takes almost zero effort to not be mean to people and takes minimal effort to respect others so we should probably do that. I get that not everyone may know about ASD in others but can't we just not be mean to people who are on the spectrum?

    I get the point that is trying to be made with this suggestion, but I think it comes across as being more greedy then ever. It sounds like to some people that I've talked to that the private teams want more blood but not give up the real profit involved. If the goal was to just have more bloods, the fix is simple, just have more public slayings. As it seems this private team wants to keep the real rewards private but benefit from the bloods that would flood the market. I hope you can see how this can be perceived as being greedy, especially by those that are against private teams to begin with. It does not help that it also appears that most those that are for this system are members of the most well known private team on NFI, including yourself Zuelatak, which at last look this team has killed near 50 uniques in 1 year. Yes the public would benefit from there being more blood, but you want the best of both worlds. This does not seem like a fix to me, as the goal is to just flood the market with cheep bloods, not to actually make the content accessible to more players. Let me state that I am fine with there being private teams, as it is the way the game is set up right now. I do think that there should be a rework of the system and that the game/community would benefit from a system that that would get more people involved with any kind of content that is considered "end game". You state that this suggestion will address a large factor of the private slayings, by letting there be more bloods. But this does not need fixing, as it is an issue that is caused by the very team that is making this suggestion. The solution is already there, make the slayings public, stop holding private slayings. But you won't do that as the profit for holding them private is to great. Keeping the profit to a select group of people while trying to flood the market with more blood that the same group of people will then benefit from, under the guise of doing it for the betterment of the public...comes across as a pretty slimy thing to do. After thinking about this some more...this suggestion is asking the dev team to add something to the game that will directly benefit those on the private teams. A very small and select group of people, and you want the devs to take time out to set something up to help you keep a hold on the profit of slayings while at the same time get the blood that the very teams create the shortage of.....

    DRIFTWOOD Public Market & Inn Located at U11 on Pristine, next to the coast, close to the border, Driftwood is a great spot to start your journey from on Pristine! Conveniently located next to the highway that leads up the desert, it's a good place to set out from for some hunting, rifts or slayings. Public Market Over 20 merchant stalls available for all your shopping needs. This is a public market, everybody is welcome to come place their merchants here if there are stalls available! There are a couple of self service animal pens available too if you forgot your mount at home! Public Inn The Dancing Donkey Inn welcomes everybody! 7 rooms available with free beds to the public if your stay becomes a sleep over. Enclosed pastures for your horses in the back. Free food and drinks will be available from time to time too. Altars for Global Spell Prayers Altars for all 4 deities can be located at the fountain near the inn. Quick and easy place to stop to pray for your sleep bonus if a global spell has been cast. Mailbox Instant mailbox located just outside the inn, next to the door. Highway system Driftwood is connected to the main highway system of Pristine. Whether you need to find your way to a deed for a visit; or find your way back to where you moored your boat, you can simply follow the highway system! Never get lost again! Wagoner There's a public wagoner located just next door to Driftwood. Wagoner containers for everybody's use has been placed at the waystone at the bottom of the ramp leading to the desert, so it's easy to come deliver items to someone on Pristine (or even receive something).     Yeah, keep model. My pillars are all designed to pair with my marble buildings. (also parapet corners please while you're at it, if you can rotate them)
