Like many people I've been experimenting with caffeinated beverages since the recent patch. These are my fully subjective, partially speculative, non-peer-reviewed conclusions. There are two things you're looking for in a caffeine buff: Duration and Power. When you drink coffee or tea, you get a caffeine buff. If you hover over the buff icon, you'll see the duration of the buff timer. The timer is governed by the QL of the beverage you just drunk, and seems to be pretty linear. You get 3 minutes buff for every 10 QL of the beverage, up to a presumed maximum of 30 minutes. A 10 QL coffee gives 3 minutes buff, a 90 QL drink gives 27 minutes. These values hold true whether you drink the weakest beverage (legacy camellia-based tea) or the strongest (kahvesi). The quantity doesn't matter. You also see something like this: ~1.1x sleep bonus usage while boosting skillgain ~1.1x fatigue consumption rate while using sleep bonus 1.3x alcohol decay rate 10 Power The values of the first three lines are governed by the fourth. The Power is on a scale of 1 to 100. The "sleep bonus usage while boosting skillgain" value ranges from ~1.1x at 1 Power to ~2x at 100 Power. The "fatigue consumption rate while using sleep bonus" and "alcohol decay rate" values range from ~1.1x at 1 Power to ~4x at 100 Power. I assume the "~" means there's some rounding going on behind the scenes. The Power you get depends on a) what type of drink you drink and b) how much or how many times you drink it. We know from DemonaNightshade that the caffeinated beverages in order of strength are: legacy tea, white tea, yellow tea, Oolong tea, green tea, black tea, cafe au lait, black coffee, fortified coffee, and kahvesi. Each type of beverage seems to have a Power-per-sip value, from about 1 for legacy tea to 10 for kahvesi. I haven't exhaustively tested every type, but I haven't seen anything yet to dissuade me from this view. You can increase the Power of your buff by either drinking more volume of the beverage, or taking more sips. If you take the volume route, your power will go up by the beverage's base per-sip value for every 200g (0.20kg) you drink. If you start drinking at 0% water, you'll only be able to drink a maximum of 2.20kg, or 11 sips, before you're too bloated to drink any more. So to get to 100 Power in one big gulp you'll need to be drinking one of the stronger beverage types. However, and here's the first dirty brown secret of caffeine as implemented right now, drinking just 1g, as measured in a measuring jug, counts as a sip. So, if you drink 1g of kahvesi 10 times in a row, you get to 100 Power, saving yourself 2.10kg of drink at the cost of a couple minutes measuring out 10x 1g sips. A full 45kg barrel will get your buff to 100 Power 4,500 times. At 100ql and 30 minutes per buff, that's 2,250 hours or 93.75 days of buff per barrel. But you can also get to 100 Power by sipping at the weaker coffees and teas. I hit 100 Power by drinking 1g of black tea, which has a 2.3 Power-per-sip, 44 times in a row. Here's the second dirty brown secret of caffeine: Drinking 1g of coffee is also sufficient to get you your daily 10 minutes of extra sleep bonus. So if all you care about is your daily extra sleep bonus and you start sipping at a 45kg barrel (which has 45,000 sips in it) today, you won''t run out of coffee until Friday, January 22, 2145, which is almost 124 years from now. You, your kids, your grandkids, and your great grandkids will get a total of 450,000 minutes (312.5 days) of extra sleep bonus. And finally, the third dirty brown secret of caffeine: You can mix and match your bevs to get both the maximum timer possible and the maximum Power possible with the fewest number of sips at the lowest possible cost. Simply drink 1g of low-quality kahvesi 9 times, then top up the timer by drinking 1g of the highest-quality kahvesi you can get. You'll get close to the 30-minute maximum duration at the maximum of 100 Power. As I said at the top, these are all my first impressions based on non-exhaustive, non-peer-reviewed experimentation. Your mileage may differ. I welcome comments and arguments. EDIT -- From the Nov 16 patch notes "Bugfix: Using 1g sips of caffeine will no longer refresh the buff entirely." https://www.wurmonline.com/2021/11/16/patch-notes-16-nov-2021/

As someone who frequently finds himself being told about ritual spells ready to cast, I run into a frequent issue: I want to ask around for people who need to be in on a Ritual Spell (it's needed for Benediction, after all) BUT I also don't want it sniped from under me when I do so, by people who might not even need the goal (this has happened). Previous attempts at this have been made - such as an old thread under the Xanadu subforum - and this seeks to be a list with more visibility, and more use. And self-updating. There's instructions inside for those who wish to do the Benediction task, those who wish to get a ritual cast, and those who want to help maintain this list. Do not ask to have your names added or removed in this thread - refer to the List for details --> Behold! The list! Click here! <-- The online Priestopedia that ANYONE verified can edit! This solution is far from perfect. If someone wants to help me develop something better, these issues need solving: 1) Names are not auto-removed, meaning people who put a name up then go inactive will linger in that list forever. 2) I now get phone notifications every time someone wants to request edit permissions. If this list is vandalized again, it will be removed without hesitation.

Please make animal branding permissions outrank deed leading permissions. This has apparently been a problem for a while... Yesterday one of my citizens wanted to go to the dragon slaying, but discovered his horse was missing. He had left it in a pen attached to his house; branded, saddled, and ready to go. He tracked it down with Manage Animal, inside a locked pasture on a nearby deed. A very nice GM helped retrieve the animal this morning, but informed me that my deed settings allowed this to happen. My citizen has since put locks on his pen. I have "lead animals" permitted in order to sell animals from my merchant. This should not allow my *branded* animals to be taken by all of the Freedom Isles!

I just think it's kinda sucky to force us to make a campfire each time we want to make Kahvesi, since it's probably the most commonly desired one too. There's really no balance to making it campfire only so maybe just consider it to cut us some slack, and allow it to be made on campfires still for travellers

Change the movement mechanics so animals do not pile up along fences? Writing code that causes animals to pile up then writing code that causes them to catch disease and die because of the movement code doesn't make sense.

Hello Wurmians, and welcome to another issue of the Valrei International! It’s been a whirlwind of a month or so between the shift in Product Management, the QoL update late last month, and the Halloween and skill gain events that are just coming to a close. I for one am ready to settle down with a nice new cup of tea, reflect over the last few weeks, and settle back into my usual more relaxed play style, how about you? While there’s not a whole lot of news in this issue, I wanted to talk about some of the great things added and changed in the last update. There was an overwhelmingly long list of patch notes, and a lot of support from many of you with the sheer amount of work involved in bringing about these fixes and updates. Let’s take a look at a few of them, shall we? One new thing we seem to all have enjoyed so far is the addition of caffeine. With its ability to help with skill gain, many players took advantage of its benefits to make the most of their grinding time during the skillgain event. Not to mention how lovely the new accessories that came along with coffee and tea look, and how many new decor options they bring to the Wurmian’s table! Along with coffee and tea, there have been a lot of QoL updates to animal husbandry, including additional information in the Inspect Animal window. Among these changes are the addition of the rarity color to rare traits in the window, the separation of different resources that can be harvested from an animal, and an estimate on how long it will be until a pregnant animal gives birth. Chickens will also now lay eggs on several new tile types! The trait “It has a chance to produce twins” has also been fixed so that only female animals are capable of having this trait, since they are the only ones able to benefit from it. A long awaited fix is for donkeys to be able to pull carts and wagons, and many more kinds of creatures can now be hitched to hitching posts. Another thing that has made many players happy is the fix for guards getting stuck in mines, or not always coming when called. There are also three new ways to call the guards, which will hopefully help players who need some assistance receive it swiftly. We have all fallen victim to occasional laziness from the guards at one point or another! To be honest, if I were to cover all of the changes we would end up with a novel instead of just a Valrei International. You can check out the full list of patch notes here. I also wanted to remind players who’ve been around for quite some time that Malena is looking for images, videos, and interesting memories and stories from Wurmian history to be included in a celebration of 15 years of Wurm Online. You can find more detailed information on what Malena is looking for by checking out the posts below: And last, but not least, a shout out to a community event coming up for the holidays! The fourth annual Lunalong will be hosted by Dracaa next month on Xanadu, for Southern Isles residents. You can check out more details on the official Lunalong forum post below: That’s it for this issue of the Valrei International! I hope you have all enjoyed the festive Halloween events and got some goodies, as well as made progress in some of your skills during the skillgain event.

Clearly this has yet to be addressed. As with Malena above, yesterday one of my citizens wanted to go to the dragon slaying, but discovered his horse was missing. He had left it in a pen attached to his house; branded, saddled, and ready to go. He tracked it down with Manage Animal, inside a locked pasture on a nearby deed. A very nice GM helped retrieve the animal this morning, but informed me that my deed settings allowed this to happen. He has since put locks on his pen, but branded animals should not be leadable by non-citizens, just because my deed needs unbranded animals to be led for sales purposes.

Planned on doing ropemaking, but didn't do any. Then was doing arch and thought I'd at least hit 50 easy, but not quite there. I guess I did bump my cloth tailoring up a little to hit 93.

You did not ask, but after months of mining and crafting, the tunnel through the Mountain of the First Rift is now open and safe to walk through. (The map is a "little bit" off, so I marked the existing highways with orange. I guess we will fix it after the new official dump release) I have started this highway almost a year ago and started the active work on the tunnel around two months ago. Now the tunnel is open. Big thanks to Rihanna for helping with mining. I appreciate your help. Also, special thanks to Antongalaktiki for some Strongwall casts and Blpolarbear for Strongwall casts and surface mining. Update All the tunnel walls are now cladded with stone bricks

I said No, but they just keep pestering me!! That's right, yet another slaying brought to you by the FUNK team....another Goblin Leader!! Yea!! I was pretty disappointed at the chaos of the last event and I really don't want people who act like ass-hats attending, so if you can't be civil, we will turn these events into private invitation only events.. I would really rather not go down that road, so please be on your best behavior No sermon sniping No carts, wagons or hell horses in the slaying area No public arguments or general ass-hattery And please listen to instruction from myself or one of the other organizers also, I'm gonna lay down some rules to make sure everybody who needs the title, gets it. If you were not aware, engaging the Goblin Leader in combat gives a new title....This was botched pretty heavily at the last slaying, mostly due to me not being properly prepared...but also due to people not listening. So....... The slaying will be divided into two events. The first event will be ONLY for people who need the title. Those people will gather inside the slaying area before the pen is open. No weapons, and no horses. The Goblin leader is pretty squishy and doesn't hit too hard...but someone (probably me) will agro him and tank him. PLEASE stay outside the cave, I'll need to go in and properly agro him. Once he is outside though feel free to target him (or I might have you come into the cave...pay attention to Local, I'll let you know). Once you have engaged him in combat (the target window opens up...that is all you need for the title) please LEAVE the slaying area. Once everybody is out of the slaying area, the second event will start. At this time, everybody can rush in and show that nasty goblin what's what. For the second event obviously weapons are allowed, but I still want horses to stay out. I just want horses out of the slay area because the GL is kinda small, and I want to make sure everybody can target him. If you have any question,, comments, or concerns please let me know, I will be monitoring this thread. So join us, and lets all have fun!! This event will take place at 4:00pm EST on Sunday IMPORTANT UPDATE: Due to daylight savings time ending, there is a mis-match between the timer and the time listed above. We are following the timer....so the event is at 3:00pm EST I'll be releasing the location a little closer to the event. Probably Saturday. As stated below. The location can be found pretty easily by going to the location of Pantha's red dragon party....and heading due South. It's about 2 map grids directly south of there. When you hit a small desert, you're there IMPORTANT UPDATE Staff has told me to expect lag just as bad for this event as we saw on Cadence for the White Dragon Slaying....They still want the event to take place, but EXPECT LAG

Yeah, and raised several times over the years. When I raised it last year (and closed my animal markets subsequently) I was told this was not a bug but an intended change brought in years ago; I'd love to know why this is the default though and not 'brand overrides deed' as the default with an option in settings to let others lead it on an animal-by-animal basis.
  35. 1 point
So here's how the story goes: Back in 2019 (was not part of the team yet) I had someone warn me of their ability to not only lead but also ride my branded saddled horses from my horse market deed. (which had lead perms open for everyone so they could lead their purchased horses away). This utterly bewildered me, because I had always assumed that a branded and saddled horse was 100% safe no matter what! It turns out that this assumption was only true for the majority of the explorable world, however not true if your horse just happened to be on land that had the lead perm enabled for "everyone". Not only was this a huge security issue at horse markets, but also at any player event like Impalongs, where lead perms had been turned on to allow participants to leave their horses in grass pens while they enjoyed the event. So, I made that post Keridwyn linked above and the devs actually addressed it immediately. The problem is that deed perms override animal perms. So if you set your deed to "lead" for everyone, that overrides any perms on your horse. The reason it's this way (if I remember correctly), is so that if you have a huge farm with hundreds and hundreds of animals, it's much more convenient to be able to set a deed wide permission, rather than having to go to each and every animal and set their permissions separately. So to solve the issue, the devs created an emergency solution: They added a new option called "Deny All" to the perms window so that you could "Deny all" to "Everyone". Take note: This is NOT turned on by default! You have to go into the branded animal permissions and turn this on manually! The system is not perfect, as most players would have no idea that they have to do this to keep their branded horses safe. So it's really good that this topic cropped up again, as this definitely needs a more elegant solution.

There as no response in the "ask a question" thread, and I notice the previous few questions are still unanswered, so I am kicking this off as its own thread: When coins are banked, do they simply become amounts or do the coins still exist somewhere, ready to go back into circulation? I have never had a rare coin in withdrawals, but I have had a renamed coin which I had banked included in coins I withdrew later. Would that only happen when it was me that withdrew, or would it be possible for someone else to get such a named coin when they withdraw from their bank account?

So I thought to myself “dude where’s my cart?” ————————————————————————— 4:02 am I awake to a loud bang. I wiped my face with my hand and peeled myself off of my warm straw bed, sat up and let my feet fall onto the cold slab floor beneath me. I could hear rustling and shifting of metal and wood from the workhouse down the hill from my cottage. In a dimly lit dawn fog I wandered out towards the work house, where no lanterns lit my way. Darkness all but surrounded me. When I entered the doorway I bumped into Draydoor. “Oh! Sorry wolf did I wake you?” He said in a rushed whisper. “No, I was just waking up” I responded. I shambled through the black that occupied the workhouse when the forges were not lit, searching my pockets for my steel and flint. *tik tik tik* Through the darkness the embers of the flint striking against the steel burned with the intensity of 10 99ql lanterns. *FWOOSH* With the warmth of a kitten and the ferocity of a lion the fire jumped to life, scratching away at the darkness until it bled back into the unattended corners of the work house. I scanned the room. I got bored of writing I’m at work, maybe I’ll write more later

Maybe start of with Ease of Use to get more functionality out to the player base quicker and then add more complexity to it over time by adding more reasons to perform that task/action - this might work better for a small dev team, so long as it's built in such a way that allows it to be easily extended or enhanced. The alternative is you build something that takes a lot of development cycles that misses its target for whatever reason So my vote would be Ease of Use for new features, then Add complexity or Depth as you go along simply due to the size of the WO dev team

I tend to listen old Wurm music quite a bit when Wurming. I started playing on the time when old music still played in-game, so brings a lot of wonderful memories. And I agree, that old music is just splendid!
