So, while repeating Keenan's caveat that there hasn't been any decision made on this, and it's not my personal decision to make, it seems that for some people, having a sensible skill transfer will be enough to get them playing on Epic. However, for some this isn't sufficient. It seems clear to me that addressing this will be part of the solution (but not the whole solution), and that includes finding a way to not leave everything since 2017 out in the cold. Keenan has already covered the logistic difficulty in getting this right, even when we have a clear plan of what we want to do, so I'll just repeat that it's hard. Before we can work out the 'how' we need to settle on the 'what' - exactly what are we transferring (skill-wise), and how do the different skill systems translate back and forth? We need something that doesn't lead to massively OP corner cases, while also not penalising one side or the other. In my opinion, some small differences would be fine - say, channeling being 10% easier to skill on Epic than Freedom - to give some flavour and difference in play without unbalancing things. Perhaps some more cosmetic rewards may only be achievable one side or the other (e.g. titles). This is a complex problem, and there is a legacy of previous changes that has to be considered as well, which doesn't help. Unfortunately, overly simplistic solutions, applied too quickly are likely to just make the problem even worse, and increase the work required for the 'right' solution. I get that the situation is disheartening for some folks - it's not a great place for the dev team either; please be assured that although we don't have a fast answer ready to go, this is something we really do want to fix.

[22:18:45] Small wooden shield increased by 0.000008 to 100.000000 taking title suggestions, as i think the "Can I have my other title please" that i was previously thinking of is a bit too meta for a title

That's the problem. That mentality right there. There are two games, epic and freedom. You're not supposed to be on one to benefit the other. Jackal round 1 was the beginnings of that, aiming at having "fresh land" to play on that still benefitted you back on your "usual" ground. Epic however is not that, it's there to be someones usual ground. The idea that you have to benefit on Freedom to play on epic is what waters down epic.

What Iā€™d like to see as well is an incentive to go to Epic servers, Iā€™ve played there and on freedom since Epic opened, itā€™s been a long time for both my characters, both Freedom (Zenity), and Epic (Jahpeople). The first few years were very busy, lots of players, lots of action, but for various reasons people stopped playing there, until Epic was indeed a ghost cluster, and I could log Jah in and find myself completely alone on the cluster, given the minor bug where if youā€™re the only player on a server it reports no other players at all, even if there is someone else on one of the others. The skills transfer did revitalise things somewhat, with a number of players coming over to get achievements and generally enjoy the effective skill curve, even knowing the skills they gained would not be transferred back to freedom, getting the tome for winning on freedom made it worth it. Of course this stopped when the whole achievements system was changed to the present journal system, fewer came over, many returned to freedom and never came back. Then the third Elevation reboot, that attracted a number of players too, but after a while, for whatever reason, this too lost interest. Went back to freedom, and Chaos. So here we are, a handful of players, still enough on a good weekend to take down a hatchling, if we can persuade some mates from freedom to come over for a slaying. Why are we still here? Are we tougher, more determined, a different breed of Wurmian? Not at all, weā€™re here because we enjoy playing on Epic, even though it is, at this point, freedom+, PVE with added environment, (way more mobs and animals to hunt for a start, and uniques we canā€™t kill easily, but still stomp some of us into puddles). For me personally, itā€™s because Serenity in particular is my home, it has been since 2011 in some shape or form. I personally love it, every hill, valley, mountain and even the craters and crack from Valrei events from bygone days. So, what would attract others to Epic? Itā€™d have to be something other servers donā€™t have, something in keeping with the ideals of uniqueness that Epic was born with. So what have we had recently that was unique to Wurm, something that introduced new assets that Wurm didnā€™t have previously, and does not have now? How would players feel about having the Jackal experience on Epic? Models, assets, wood types, even some of the terrain features? Thereā€™s a whole load of developed game assets just doing nothing, it doesnā€™t need to be full on jackal rules, maybe just some of the trees, the weird wood types, the creatures, just so that itā€™s different enough from the rest of Wurm. All it would need would be a few ā€˜Jackalā€™ events to change some areas to be like Jackal, allow those event areas to produce the trees and animals, sit back and watch, the same way I introduced some trees and stuff to the dirt islands on Serenity all those years ago.

It's trivial I know but: How about making enchanted trees 'evergreen'? Snowy enchanted trees look a bit weird in winter when surrounded by bright green enchanted grass. Or, considering age is frozen for enchanted trees, perhaps retain/freeze the colouring from the season they were made? That way the player could choose how they want their enchanted trees to look all year round.

Spoken like somebody who's never built a house, or a fence. If you don't like the material that it puts in the crafting window... don't use it to make the item. I support the original idea. It's little bit of UI work, but it's low risk and makes established players happy.

Honestly, I think a big problem right now for epic bringing in new players is that they they have no idea what it is. Myself, I'm still kind of unsure. The wiki doesn't say a lot about it and there doesn't seem to be a lot when starting a new account guiding you that way. There's not a lot of discussion you see about it, other than it's a dead cluster and no one knows what to do with it. What about putting out some information of the appeal of epic and holding some competitions/challenges that are unique to epic to draw more players in? Can toons from NFI go there? Again, I'm not incredibly familiar with it so my suggestion may be ridiculous.

With risk of sounding entitled here, i think we deserve some attention as well don't you think ? I mean after all, even though we're on Epic, we are players too.

This is a fair assessment, however I feel we need to approach the VI as a team going forward. Being a small team, there will be times during the year where development slows considerably as people take vacations. During these times, we'll likely share less about development and more about what the team is up to. Even if it's just saying "Hey! It's vacation time here, what are your plans?" or something of that nature. The point being that you won't be left wondering whether or not we're still here, as has been the case during the last few months. I also know that we're tight-lipped about what we're working on usually until it's ready for release. This is a learned behavior from things having been promised in the past, only to not be delivered in a reasonable time frame or sometimes changed completely. I think we need to get better at this, even if we disclose that whatever it is we're teasing is subject to change during development. It's something we're discussing internally and I hope the results of that discussion show in future editions of the VI.

Hello! Iā€™d like to address some of the concerns weā€™ve seen from you. Communication Iā€™ve talked with Demona, who will be staying on board, and weā€™ve agreed that a Valrei International on at least a monthly basis is a must. Releasing one on this cadence will ensure active communication from the team every month. Animal Husbandry I wonā€™t go into all the details here, but I will say that we have a patch we plan on releasing tomorrow that has some long-awaited fixes for breeding and animal husbandry. Iā€™ve asked Demona to cover the details in a Valrei International, which should be going up later. As with anything, development is an ongoing process, and we will await more feedback from you before we decide on future tweaks to this system. Patches & Future Content While tomorrowā€™s patch will be a bug fix patch, weā€™re still actively working on a few significant projects and sourcing suggestions for quality of life improvements. We plan to make another post in a week or so regarding the previously detailed plans and where things currently stand. With all of that said, Iā€™d like to thank you all for your patience and feedback. Happy Wurming! Edit: to stop suggestions getting lost in this thread, there is a separate epic channges suggestions thread running here:

Some random qol improvements from the annoyance of having to deal with the crafting window Hand tool in craft window instead of a certain part - it auto selects parts from your inventory from top to bottom of the list, similar to building houses/fences. Alternatively if auto selection is considered too powerful, double clicking the material in the list should search inventory and put it into the craft window when crafting lots of multi-part items such as this screenshot, an option to switch between using all items on first item in stack (as it currently is) and using 1 of each on x unfinished items , so like instead of using 6 shafts on 1 sign and cancelling because it's finished, it instead uses 1 seperate shaft on the first 6 unfinished signs.

Epic used to have unique features but they were all slowly offloaded to freedom so that pve players wouldnt have to go there to access them. If you are going to spend time finding more then perhaps keep this in mind.

I tried to start a Dioptra with BS skill of 33 and a Protractor of ql 42. According to the wiki I should have been able to start it at a very low probability. The example they gave was BS skill of 31 and a Protractor of ql 18 with a probability of 6%. It wouldn't let me start it at all, and said the percentage was 0%. This example needs to be updated. Thanks.

    1. If a player places material in crafting window slot, he should see all recipes related to that material, even when second slot is empty. 2. A few extra slots that would be used to add any additional materials required to craft an item. After filling all slots, player would click button only once and wait for item to build itself. Game would automatically wait for regen stamina when it drops to a low level. There is no point in requiring player to repeat the same action if game does not require making a choice and if player's action does not produce different results. Adding additional materials to objects or structures does not require any choice, except for the last wooden object that affects type of wood.

QL 96 RARE Runed Hammer, iron A hammer with a metal head and wooden shaft. This is a very rare and interesting version of the item. A steel rune of Vynora has been attached, so it will reduce damage taken (10%). Blessings of the Dark has been cast on it, so it will increase skill gained and speed with it when used. If you think there's a difference between improving something and patching it, all you're really saying is that, for you, subjective judgment and spin are more important than substance. As for established players complaining about it... read the room

Hello Everyone! During my restoration grinding session, I turned a Plate gauntlet Supreme. Although the metal type is Zinc, it does come with DOUBLE RUNES, making this truly a unique item! It has a slight glow to it, which is sometimes enough to never light your lantern again! [11:49:40] A glove made from small metal plates. This is a supreme example of the item, with fine details and slick design. It is glowing from the heat. The plate gauntlet needs to be sharpened with a whetstone. [11:49:40] You can easily make out the signature of its maker, 'Ssmokes'. [11:49:40] A brass rune of Vynora has been attached, so it will increase quality at a faster rate when being improved (7.5%) and have a slight glow [11:49:40] A seryll rune of Jackal has been attached, so it will increase the chance of successfully enchanting the item (5%) and reduce the quality change when repairing damage (5%) I also improved it to 95.09QL (quite easily with the 7.5% rune). I'm also offering FREE re-imp service, if I have high QL zinc in stock (doesn't take much to imp to 95ql, I used 2kg.) Starting bid: 1 s Increment (minimum): 1 s Reserve: off Buyout: off Sniper Protection: 1 hour Private Bids: not accepted Happy Bidding!

No. I asked you. Prayer is communication, two ways. Meditation is something else - usually either deep thought or even absence of thought. Like I said, examples with substantiation. You provided neither.

Crafting should be uniform, and the building construction method (unfinished item and tool in craft window, components in inventory) is the most sensible of those in use, IMO. EDIT: Oh, and just to be explicit āž•1ļøāƒ£

Thats reasonable... So what if every time you meditate theres a 1/100 chance it summons Enki to your location whereupon you must defeat him in a battle of checkers else you will be attacked by 100 rabid gerbils?

Anyone seeing any indication Picks Stuff Up is now doing anything? If it is fixed, I can't figure out what it does. Granted small sample size on my new animals, and don't know if the animal and traits are created at breeding (which would strike me as odd to create a dbase entry on something not yet in the world....) or at birth, but I can't tell any difference. I'm starting to wonder if the AH part actually took effect.

Please for the benefit of us Freedomers, please can someone draw up a list of reasons why any of us should visit/move to Epic? Please separate the benefits into Existing Benefits, and Proposed Incentives. At the moment I can't see myself or most people I know playing on Epic, but maybe that's because: 1) the existing benefits of Epic are not clear to the average Freedomer or there are benefits we don't hear about 2) nobody has thought of any potential incentives which could be implemented to attract more people to Epic. Existing Benefits I know about: Increased skillgain (a turn-off for those 'hard core grinding' Freedomers) Slight chance of PVP (arguably not considered a positive by most on Freedom) Faster Journal completion (not everyone uses their journal) Proposed Incentives: I can't imagine going to Epic as long is it not possible to bring anything back (reward). If Epic had the ability to bring things back: a new resource, such as a material, tile type, harvestable fruit, game animal or metal vein a challenge or maze deed with a trophy such as a title, medal or other reward an event like an impalong, a party, or treasure/hunting/fighting event with prizes we can keep More people might visit. Basically we have no *proof* we have ever visited Epic, except "so and so looks like she has blood from XYZ".

This point keeps getting made, and it's a fair point. Why bother with Epic when we can live on Freedom and go to Chaos for PvP? Except Epic and Chaos are different: Chaos is small. Epic is big. You've got the respective kingdom home server where players can live and defend, which suits one style of play. Then you've got Elevation (with HotA) that all factions are effectively competing for, which suits a riskier style of play. I suppose Elevation is the equivalent of Chaos? Then you've got the enemy kingdoms' servers to raid which is about as spicy as it gets. It's a really nice design, and players ought to appreciate it more. On Chaos you can flee to Freedom and hide. On Epic there is no retreat past your home server - nowhere is entirely safe. Your boats, wheelie-vehicles, animals, buildings, bank account, and anything else that is too big or heavy to store on toons is always vulnerable to being pilfered, abused, killed, or vandalised. Chaos uses PMKs, and some players prefer the template MR vs JK vs HotS format. Not to say that PMKs aren't perfectly viable and fun, but Epic and Chaos are just different in this respect. The current skill system on Epic rewards you for doing constructive things that you're supposed to be doing, rather than burning time doing pointless things you would never ordinarily do (other than purely to increase skill). The mission system on Epic can get you the full range of sorcery items, and influencing/meddling with the gods is interesting in its own right. Sure, players can no longer become gods themselves, which was the ultimate goal, but this system could potentially yet be revamped. There is no Curve on Chaos, and the Curve definitely makes it easier for noobs to get up to speed, and even do the full-on self-sufficient survivalist-hermit-thing if that's their bag. The rapid timers on Epic make it significantly faster to replace gear, vehicles, and buildings, among other things. Horses gestate very fast on Elevation (hours not days). You're likely to risk more if you know everything is easier to replace, whereas Chaos is effectively the same slow grind and long wait that Freedom is. These factors combined tend to attract some players to Epic rather than Chaos, and will generally give a different vibe to PvP adventures on Epic I guess.

I have never really understood "I only win if someone else loses". It's why I prefer to play co-operatively instead of competitively. Yes, it is nice to have distinctive stuff, but if it is only to show it off in "I have it and you don't/can't" kind of way then I don't see the point. If it is disctinctive, rare, difficult to or expensive to get, then it become aspirational, which is a good thing. If it is impossible to get, it isn't doing anyone any good.

We are defiantly open to suggestions about what people think would be best for epic going forward. Just closing it fully is a tough thing to do and something I personally hope we can avoid.
