Feels like a lot of people are overthinking things. Speculation about what the parent company is doing, the motives behind the decisions of those running the game, and what the future holds. I feel like I was victim to that same mindset not long ago. At some point you just need to decide if the game is worth it for you or not. Additionally, if people think that volunteers cannot maintain the game well, I would respectfully disagree. It's very much the people in charge who are gatekeeping progress on the game's development. I provided a detailed summary of everything I had concerns about regarding my time on the development team to the new CodeClub CEO prior to the Steam launch. I didn't receive a response. I offered to become a volunteer developer in 2020. It was declined. Twice. Several other programmers put in applications to become volunteer developers for Wurm Online in 2020 and early 2021. None of them even received a response. Myself and others contacted the CEO of CodeClub with concerns about the current state of the game. Nothing came of it. I posted several weeks ago that there were strong indicators that development had halted. That became reality in the patch notes the next week where nothing was changed. The update on development post was made a week ago. In that time, no development has been done for Wurm Online. All it would take to turn the game around is someone at the top who actually gave a damn. Right now, there appears to be none. Not a single person fighting for the future of the game. Wurm will be living in the present and stay there indefinitely unless something changes. If you're satisfied with that, be happy and continue playing. If you're not satisfied, cancel your subscription until they decide to show that they care.

I've been one of the many that are highly disappointed and concerned at how the game is being managed right now. But, in light of recent staff statements, I am even more disappointed. Enki, your statement on seeing red read more like a threat and excuse than anything reassuring to the community that is wondering what is happening. When you say things like the staff are not robots and "are very busy and have lives too ya know", it sounds like we, the customers, are in the wrong for wanting an engaged management. That is not wrong. That is wanting what all decent and living games provide today. We are paying customers. You are here because of us. You also say "all this doom and gloom is just a mood that people feel from time to time, public updates will resume when the devs are ready", and this, to me, sounds like Wurm is not about us, the players, but about you, the staff in the background, and what is good for you. More salt in the wounds.. Otherwise, your entire statement, including the title of seeing red comes off as very threatening and very unconcerned for the player base and where it stands. If anyone was doxxed or harassed, I never saw it, but that is certainly wrong and should be punished. However, deep dissent alone certainly is not grounds for punishment, and I hope that's not what is being insinuated. It feels that way. Pandalet apologized at one point for the lack of engagement by staff and mentioned holidays in Europe, but in my experience, significant holidays were always acknowledged by the game and its management, not a cause for total neglect of the game and its players. Demona, mentioned personal issues, and of course, I feel bad for such issues. Likewise, Enki acknowledged being away for a while. So my question is if all of the staff is either on vacation or out due to personal issues, at what point is this unacceptable? It's been going on for long enough. Then we receive this damning statement from Enki, like we're being bad children for being sick of how Wurm is being run right now. Wurm is a 24/7 entertainment and service-providing business. Like any other business that makes its money in this capacity, there needs to be regular engagement and management. No other business like this can just expect to disengage but then have a happy customer base that stays infinitely happy and loyal. Wurm is no exception. Instead, we've got a contest that was totally dropped with zero results but excuses, broken animal systems with no fixes in sight, zero acknowledgement of huge dates like the Steam anniversary, no monthly updates as promised, and very little communication except to make excuses and even threaten the player base for a very legitimate state of insurrection. If I get banned for saying all this, then fine, Wurm isn't the place for me, but I very much wanted to say that the disappointment in a game I love (and an alternative digital life I've long-loved) runs deep right now. It runs even deeper when there is no sincere apology from staff, but excuses and even threats over not just shutting up and expecting nothing but what staff wants to do "when they are ready." We deserve better.

I'll add some draft info from my testing to this then: The old draft hell horses I used (3 speeds molten) were able to hit around 35 km/h with a "basic" set up (basic set up being 90ql90w shoes and speed rune on the cart) pre AH changes. With the new 4draft moltens (effectively 3-draft due to gear trait being useless), I hit around 37 km/h with the same set up post AH changes. I know that @gnomegatesalso reports that hellies with the 3 relevant draft traits are faster than hellies with the old 3 relevant speed traits for drafting. Max draft animals makes carts faster now than they were pre update. Carts/wagons are not nerfed in terms of speed. This is before you even add the rare draft trait. There are some rumors going around about a certain interpretation of something they said in the patch notes (quote: "Having all draft traits will give a speed bonus instead of speed traits when a creature is hitched."). I did some testing and came to the conclusion that having all 4 draft traits does not make it better than having the 3 relevant ones. Gear draft trait is utterly useless for drafting purposes as gear on hitched animals doesn't even take damage to begin with. Tests were done using hell horses, as they keep their traits up at all times. Testing method: I juggled around my horseshoes (I got some rare/supreme casted shoes as well as a bunch of non rares) until I got to the point where changing 1 woa power brought me up/down 1 quint (=0.72 km/h speed increase/decrease). Then I tested by using a 3 draft hellie (with the three relevant traits) and compared it to a 4draft hellie. Using either made the 1 woa power still bring me up/down 1 quint. The quote about mules on the AH update patch notes (quote: "Mules are also as good as draft creatures as horses.") is incorrect. Mules are faster than horses and therefore are the best draft animals for anyone who don't want to deal with using hell horses. Mules are also about as fast as bison are for wagons, so if you ever wished you could put shoes on bison.. well, now you can. I'll have some simple numbers below if anyone is curious. Draft animals comparison:

It's beyond bizarre to me working on VR support is something that is seen as a priority when there are MUCH more important areas of the game development that can enhance the play experience enjoyment for all players not just those with VR equipment. Especially considering we're nearly in September and we're yet to see any real work on fixing May's update. I just cannot see the logic behind this choice. I love this game and have hyped it up and equally been critical of it over the past 15+yrs of playing. Right now though I have never felt greater concern for the choices being made for this game and it's future development. Disappointing.

I like that you can change nearly everything and it remains then. So you have the feeling that things you build are not for nothing, but they help make wurmworld more developed

looks like this might be possible in the most recent SteamVR update you can position desktop windows inside your VR view. There's a video showing a twitch stream chat being docked onto a controller in VR. https://steamcommunity.com/games/250820/announcements/detail/2969548216412141657

What brought me to Wurm was the fact that it's one of the rare games where the entire "society" is player-run and player-built, and your story is entirely yours to write. A lot of what keeps me around is the people I've met.

Or Profit. Remember, there were two co-founders of Wurm Online: Rolf and Notch. Notch 'sold out' to Rolf. What's Notch up to these days?

I've noticed suggestions seems to have dived in traffic, but of course, that's just a feeling and how I've perceived it. I've certainly had suggestion ideas, but what's the point when Darnok will spam it down half a page by arguing bad ideas and suggesting more trash that nobody likes or wants?

This constant whining how bad rifts are is even more boring, together with the constant disinfo about "tagging". Same goes for the "mats are meh". Then leave them to those who haven't yet. I nowadays take some ten of any sort if at all, but do not see that much is left. As to closing rifts I most times see consent when the fighting group is to small to bring the WM down in reasonable time. Short discussion in local then mostly it is done. Forcing closure onto others is rude, and obviously in contradiction to alleged "mats are meh". If that were true for the closers they could just start their way home, especially when on the same server, and lose nothing than the mats. Rifts since the 4 rounds are in no way considerably longer than the old style ones. A rift is usually done in 1.5 to 2 hours unless there are very few participants. In that case it has always taken its time.

Nobody's complaining, there's option to end it once rift master spawns.. and people make use of it because the event is boring and annoying and there's no reason to fight a symbolic boss that gives nothing besides the turrets. "Deal with it" - if there was option to end the 4th wave from it's start and not be prevented until the 'boss' spawns.. we'd all jump in on that boat and sink it hard - because the event is boring and we've done it enough times to be sick of it as it is. Fourth wave is only wasting people's time for a few more points.. points that we have no purpose for, rift loot is dated and useless, and the only ones monetizing rifts well are Fo priests. Simple facts.. If you want better event.. suggest some improvement to the loot and reason to not skip the boss, currently there is no reason for that and the smart decision is to not waste your time with whole 4th wave and the boss fight.

Last time I did some quick testing, I came to the conclusion that with a few draft traits and a decent ql cart, you won't get slowed down no matter how much stuff you got in the cart. Wagon, however, might be a different story. I'll do some quick testing later on when I get home from work.

I'm not opposed to the idea of different costs, in theory. It would add to the feel of realism... in theory. But the decision was, I'm fairly certain, quite deliberate. If different style of wall required different amounts of material to construct, then players would feel pressured to build certain wall styles in order to save on materials. As it stands - and yes, I understand that the larger arches and T arches are an exception - players have essentially a no-cost choice of which style of wall / door / window to build. That means that, as it stands, the choice of which style to build is almost purely aesthetic.

It's for balance. It provides all the protection of a wall. If it was to be less, it should allow picking up and not count as an outer wall

One possible gameplay issue with VR that comes to mind is the action timer lengths. Personally I like being able to read or watch something else while waiting, usually on another screen. If there was some kind of picture-in-picture feature, say a craftable tablet or scroll that functioned as an ingame web browser.

Imbue is roughly 30-40 silver. The "steel" supreme and lack of other high end baubles is what is driving this. A bit rich for my pocket at this point :P.

In view of your many dozens of ambitious, unorthodox and surprising suggestions I cannot quite avoid the impression that you actually seem to be designing a completely new game instead of trying to improve the existing world of Wurm Online. You have Interesting ideas... albeit many of them might not really be in line with the history, the philosophy and the general idea of Wurm Online. (You may have noticed this by the somewhat "reserved" reaction by most players, to put it mildly ) I don't mean any offence; feel free to keep them coming - but you may be more successful if you suggest useful little improvements that would fit in better with the game we all love.

I have multiple times, asking for the benefit of working through it and the gameplay loops. This has been ignored every time, and his continued work continues to show lack of thought regarding the work:reward, gameplay loops, and the goal of the mechanic at all. So with that in mind, I am tired of trying to help Darnok post reasonings and the goals of mechanics, and will instead post 😭😭😭😭😭 because at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what I post, it's not taken on board.

Sadly many amazing suggestions that require minimal work have been ignored for the past year. (example : add better rewards from fishing, reduce number of rifts in journal goals, add large saddle functionality to bulls, add a better tutorial, fix parent skill skillgains for weapons, etc) If you browse the suggestion forums, it's just players talking to each other. At least in the past, Retro used to acknowledge some threads but honestly if I'd make a cynical suggestion that would be to remove the entire suggestion thread from forums. It's clear by now no one looks at it, it's being ignored, just like the bugs, just like the broken systems , glitches, etc. I am bitter as ###### right now and It will take something more than a monthly skin or a bedroll (content wise) to make me want to fall in love with wurm again. I really feel cheated that I prolonged by sub just to see an update 3 months later not fixed. Just like I felt about the fishing update. Just like I felt about the 1 way transfer which killed Epic and left 4 dead servers that only served as a reminder "it's ok to abandon" an entire server cluster... Even if VR is handled by an outside team that doesn't change the fact VR implementation is going to cost money, aka resources. Resources which would be wisely spent on fixing wurm's issues and adding some significant content. Note : I don't call adding a few in game items as significant content, such as a hay bale or donkeys, which by now by the way have ruined horse spawns and no one is looking at this crap. Donkeys are literally overriding horse spawns everywhere but priority is VR.... I don't know what else to say. I am sad as ###### as this is not the game I fell in love with which is made worse by the fact I've always seen Wurm's potential to grow into a huge game, if people in charge were actually committed to taking some risks to make it big. Example : resume support for WU but...what do I know in the end. I'm just another ignored voice on the forums, like everyone else. Note: I don't even play WU but I understand the attraction for people playing on 50x skill gains and 3x item creation / imping timers. I understand the staff is going through a rough patch...but then again so are we as paying customers. Reciprocity is how any business works. And right now, the scales tilt in the wrong way.

I have had this happen to me when exiting a mine on deed over here on Indy (Cornersville). Usually mainly happens when I'm in a hurry and take a turn as soon as I think I've exited the mine. This odd thing happens, I get de embarked, my horse or cart is out side the mine, but I have to go inside the mine to embark. I have discovered, I can avoid de embarking, if I am careful when exiting, to not turn, until I'm completely outside of the mine. Hope this helps. Still should be fixed I guess since it's annoying when it happens.

I have a different take on this. I don't see the harm in a straight-up skill transfer between Epic and Freedom. I think it would be great if Epic were a place new people could go to skill-up quickly. Opens up the game for a different style of play. And I don't see why length of time at the exact same grind must be the only way to succeed in Wurm. You look at many any other MMOs and they have a shortcut way for new players to move ahead quickly if they wish. You can out-right buy high-level characters in Wow and Everquest, you can pay to double your skill gain, even when you're offline, on Eve. It provides a way for new players to reach the high-end content quickly if that is their interest. Far more fun for those type of players, even if the majority still make a level 1 character and skill up normally. I mean, what's the argument against providing a way for players moving up quickly in skills? Doesn't matter for pve. It makes pvp far more fun to have more folks on equal ground, and may encourage a few more players to try it out while on Epic. Only downside I can think of might be the market on Freedom, but I think the type of player who likes to purchase things isn't going to care either way. I don't see a lot of overlap there. I think opening up a differents route to players who wish a different style of play is the most obvious way to grow and retain new players to the game overall. There are others on this forum with more experience in the game who can, and probably will 🙂 , speak to this.
