I'm surprised no one else has posted the same reasons as I have for playing Wurm. They are this: and this: and this!: The world of Wurm feels alive, organic, and full of mysteries. Vegetation that grows back over time, hiding secrets and stories. I can explore wilderness and come across fossils from a Rift so ancient, its location won't even show up on the forums. And I can look over the expanse before me and feel it calling me to explore it, salivating at what stories I could find. Edit: I don't believe I've ever played a game with this "organic" feel

"Hello it is I, Steropes Gob, and I have an exciting new item for the marketplace. Please come to my tech demo at Bruce's Flying Circus, X17 Y31, or N13 ingame, at the time below, to witness this exciting new technology. Below you'll also find a preview to give you a taste of what we have to show you! We will be making the world a better place through integrated technologies!"

That's what many players said, but it was never correct. We had 8 good traits in the old system: - the old 5 speed traits - spark in eyes (longer life) - tough bugger (more hitpoints) - strong and healthy (more resistance to disease). These 8-traiters would be the perfect horse in the old system, needs AH skill 80+ and it was totally possible to breed them that way. Source: Me. All my pre-patches horses have these 8 traits. It's the new system that punishes players with high skill while the old one never did.

When I first started playing Wurm nearly a decade ago, I thought it was tedious and boring, much like Minecraft but with better graphics. I stayed because of the people I met in the alliance I joined, and over time, I found that it was a great creative outlet. I did leave the game for a while when life became too busy and money became too tight, but I found myself longing for the community and the beauty of the world I left behind (and my husband started playing Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, which made me feel surprisingly homesick), so I came back. I pretty much had to start over, but some of my allies were still playing, new allies had joined, and they welcomed me back and helped me find a place to call my own. I founded my new deed, participated in an impalong, and felt some of my depression melt away as I created something new that was fully mine. (My ex introduced me to Wurm, and I took over the deed he built after he left. When I came back, I founded a new deed and built everything myself rather than expanding on someone else's ideas.) I also get to live out the fantasy that hard work and determination will allow me to own a house. Wurm isn't perfect, and there are a lot of areas where it could be better, but to me, it's home.

Wurm already is VR as far as I am concerned. Just not in the way most people mean these days.

Since it's relevant to the conversation, here's some data. According to the Steam Hardware Survey, 2% of Steam users have a VR headset. According to Artillry VR Global Revenue Forecast, VR revenue declined from 2019 to 2020, but is expected to make a recovery and grow again. The total value is currently ~$4B USD. Meanwhile, according to Newzoo Insights (via ScaleTech), the mobile gaming market is currently estimated at around ~$100B USD and growing in market share year over year.

My husband introduced me to WO almost three years ago, I believe. He used my love of horses to his advantage and got me into the game. I play wurm now: because of the people i have come to know and consider friends, because it is in a way like real life, challenging and requires dedication to learn things and progress for the animals, and the funny names I get with new babies Like my newest foal "SNICKERKICKER" because of the endless inspiration that exploring the servers gives me for my own deed it allows me to, when needed, immerse myself into the game rather than dwell on and stress out about things i cant change in real life I honestly dont know what I'd do if the game were not here anymore. Most of my friends say I abandoned them to play Wurm, but they know how to install the game and make a character. I told them that I will always be here for them, they just have to log in LOL Im still learning things about the game everyday and I like that.

"Our very limited team of developers is going to take on an incredibly ambitious feature, but don't worry it won't affect development time." ??? how does software development work in Wurm world?

I have been testing speeds with the new and old traits. The tests are far from complete as I do not have all the animals to do it yet, but as I get them I will update the post. I am only using my results as others might have different quality or have runes on wagons as mine. So I am keeping it as strictly my results. All tests are done with zero gear on the animal. So far my results are; As a rider: The old trait system 5 Speed horses can reach up to 28.08km/h. The new 4 Speed horses can reach up to 28.08 km/h The new 3 Speed horses (without the water trait) can reach up to 28.08km/h. The new 3 Speed horses (with the water trait) can reach up to 25.93km/h. The 3 Speed mules (with the water trait) can reach up to 20.89km/h. I have been asked what is the water trait and why the difference. The accustomed to water trait does not actually add speed that I have seen with regular horses. I have seen it keep your speed from slowing down in shallow water. As a hauler: My empty wagon is 73ql with a 5% speed rune. The old trait system a full team of 5s bison can reach up to 18.01kmh. The old trait system a full team of 5 Speed horses can reach up to 14.40km/h. A team of hell horses with zero traits can reach up to 15.84km/h. The new trait system a team of 4 Speed horses can reach up to 11.54km/h. Once I have draft animals and other animals to test, I will post those results. I hope this is a help.

Hi everyone, First off, apologies for the lack of communication coming from us recently. I have personally been in a life situation where I couldn’t do a good enough job to keep you all up to date, but that’s not an excuse for not being prepared for it, as we were still lacking a community manager contractor (please remember Demona was still a volunteer). Fortunately others have stepped in to help out - thanks a lot Keenan ❤️ Anyways, let’s get to the things we’re working on. Obviously we’re not too happy with the current state of animal husbandry, and we’ve got multiple tweaks pending for the next update we release, including large changes to how traits are passed down (more likely to be passed down rather than replaced with random ones), lowering the chance of passing down negative traits as we’ve decided it was a bit too harsh, as well as significantly reducing the chance of getting traits not relevant to the animal, such as resource yield traits on animals that don’t produce any resources. We’re planning to release a smaller update next month, before the exploration update, and that will include those animal husbandry tweaks as well as some content additions. To fix the communication issues we’ve been having here a bit, we’ll be looking at getting some extra Community Managers on board to help with things, and until that time I’ll try to keep you all updated a bit better than how we’ve done recently. Lastly, while this might be a bit of unexpected news, it’s something we’ve teased in the past, long long ago, in one of the news posts - we’ll be starting development on adding VR functionality to Wurm, and while we can’t release any further details on it yet, we don’t expect it to derail development on the content features we’ve announced. Other than this feature, the last roadmap we posted is still relevant, and so there’s more exciting stuff to look forward to. Thanks for the attention, and keep on Wurming!

Ok. This is very challenging location for a rift. Atop a mountain. No roads lead up here. Can not get cart up here. Need to climb to get to the rift beam. But can lead a horse up to the rift beam. Lots of tree problem, needs addressed up here. On this map is best guess the location of it. The white path tracks from that guard tower (if u can find that) to the rift thru the woods. Hergasterix and I investigated this area, killed local mobs. Good luck whoever decides to try this rift 🙂 Teeebomb Some kind soul (Thanks Timegypsie !!) chopped trees to show to path from the Sandstone Cove direction. Once u follow the roads West from Sandstone Cove and up into the woods u'll see them. This is the path from Sandstone Cove (Thanks Ronal o/): https://imgur.com/5sOEfln

do you really think the average player has 20-30 ah and rides around on 1 speed animals because it's straight up not possible for them to breed 2 traits that work together? that seems really out of touch, even by your standards

Oh no, please don't waste time on VR for Wurm. You have far more important things to do. I constantly hear about how staff is stretched so thin as it is already and to put content on hold for VR updates. You say it won't slow down regular dev work, but seriously, how can that be possible? Game Chest hire a team to do the VR? Are you all getting paid for more hours in a work day to do the extra work? Where is the extra time and staffing coming from? I don't understand the motivation for VR. VR is going to look terrible anyway, with the current graphics and super weird vehicle movement physics. What happens to your last meal when your cart suddenly starts lurching at high speed, to catch up with all the movements you were attempting to do during a high latency period? You better get some pretty extensive protection clauses for everyone to sign before launching VR. I try not to be aggressively critical of new developments, but I have to say this one is just a bad idea and you are far better spending the time and resources elsewhere.

I don't remember exactly how long I've actively played... It has to be at least 5 years because I have the 2016 Bear Helm from Shrimpiie's Impalong. I play wurm because it's kind of cathartic. I can login and tend my farm, make some materials for a project or whatever else needs to be done & it's all on my schedule. I don't have anything pushing me to go faster other than myself. I find it very relaxing after my day job ( tight schedule ), caring for my grandmother, keeping the house semi-livable, etc. I can just login, chat with some fine folks ( and a few trolls ) and just relax. I don't have anything in the game that I *need* to do so if I login and literally do nothing but chat for an evening, it's just as productive as a night where I make materials and build a whole new building on deed.

I'll start out with, I'm new and I have no idea if I'm in the right forum. So the problem I'm having is; When a parent is "venerable fat bison" and name given is "B29", only venerable fat bison 'B is shown. There is no way to resize the column to show enough of the name. Please fix this so the name we give the animal can be shown or another column just for the given name. For horses the issue isn't so bad since "horse" is not added in this, just the age and the name. If we choose to rename the horse though that becomes the same issue. Examining the animal normally will show the names in the event window so that's the only work around right now that I can see. I can see this being an issue with any animal that has been renamed. https://prnt.sc/1q6km50 Thanks

I don't know where else to put this but after not logging for a few months, I logged in today and only to find that all of my Mind & Body skills have been reset to 20.00 Is this normal if you've been logged out of Wurm Online for an extended period of time? I worked really hard getting my mind logic all the way up before taking a break and now it's completely gone, I can't build anything substantial, I can't ride my wagons or my boats...... So ..... yeah.... is this intended for those skills to go down like that?

I've noticed when using the drop on ground, pet bowls will place themselves outside a fence or gate. So the penned animal cannot get to it's found; or in the case of my hell horses one time almost escaped their pen because of this! I got them back before anything happened, thankfully having another watch that they didn't run off anywhere on me while I got online.

If you play an MMO, yet avoid other players, why do you feel you deserve to speak for other players?
  26. 1 point
It does have an organic feel however if you explore certain places you know well, like your "own" server, and see the dozens of deeds belonging to friends and people you liked to play with, now abandoned, then the feeling becomes....bitter. I sometimes roam Desertion repairing 90 damage on colossi or towers because there's no one around to repair them. In a way the land is reclaiming the artifices of civilization but it's still depressing. I mistakenly thought a lot of people would come from the steam release to epic, expecting maybe at least 30-40 new names to settle that server. But with zero marketing towards Epic and a mechanic that prevented people from starting on Epic in the first place, just feels insulting at this point. Exploration is nice as long as you also meet some new names, at least for me. Otherwise I'm just exploring pixels in a game and am offered nothing but reminders of players that quit or moved on.

Update released on 2021-08-08 (August 8, 2021) This Week's Update . . . . . Due to continuing constraints in RL we have not had time to do any survey sorties, so this update is mainly deed information. As always, we have removed disbanded deeds and added those submitted to the Albia Roads Map of Indy forum. Wurm is waiting.... Update released on 2021-08-08 18:00 GMT (UTC) (or Aug 08th, 2021) This was delayed by RL getting in the way.. The map update was issued though back then. This weeks updates: Nothing submitted in the past 2 weeks, so just an update issue. Finally we added Deeds that are on the Albia Roads Map, that also have "Find by Routing" enabled and removed Deeds that are no longer on the Albia Roads Map of Indy. So you can now use the CE Hwy network to find over 100 deeds, and enjoy "routed directions" from the West end of Samling Fjord in the north west of Indy all the way through to Flint on south end of Elysian Bay, some 7,500 plus tiles away on the south coast of Indy. Warmest regards! Hughmongus and Skyefox Co-Leaders of The Albia Consortium Cartographers of Indy Co-Creators and Administrators - The Albia Cats Eyes Highways Map of Indy

I never take my boat to a rift.. I sail my horse in a cage and I do that.. Doing rifts on home servers is meh, spending extra time to go to other servers takes more even more time; rewards are useless and havent changed in years, 'adventure' - HA, boring fight, boring reward, annoying moaning sounds from the rift spawns - everybody mutes game sounds for this event. @christopheruse proper sentences, paragraphs etc., that is really unpleasant to read.

While I've had literal dreams of walking within the lands of Wurm, I would rather have the jetty available in marble first. Heck, if oriels had better visibility from inside buildings, I would be happy. VR would be fun, but I think the bugs, viable suggestions, and building options need to be fixed first.

Its interesting how in the press release it states that VR will not take up any existing development time. So, either they hired some other company to create the VR stuff, they hired a new employee to code the VR stuff, or they are lying to us. Only time will tell which is which.

I have a feeling this is a money grab for a "gimmick" to bring people in via steam : / but I've got really crappy news for you- it's also gonna bring in a loooooot of bad reviews. I can't imagine there'd be too much you can do differently in VR let alone what the poor graphics would do for it. I genuinely wish the team would listen to their players rather than just take off and do whatever to the extremes. Ask for player input on what they want. Surely there's a way to get a player vote in-game (1 per IP or something?) for a list of options that are proposed to be worked on vs what the players would actually choose from said list. At this point I'm just waiting for wurm to fall on it's ass. I'd also like to remind the team that you guys have a test server. Please use it : / I hadn't been back to wurm online in so long and was excited to see what was come up with for the animal husbandry update and it was a complete disaster and for what?

Been playing this game for soon 1000 hours and with all the lack of fixes, poor UI, sometimes even broken mechanics and tons of stuff that is a thing in Wurm while it technically shouldn't, I get a little bit sad signing on the the forums to read the devs talking about adding VR... I don't mean to be rude but I do wonder, does the people who make this game also play it? If so I'm confused. This game is such an unpolished pearl but whats the point of adding new cracks to it? Please for the love of the game, polish what's already there. I can always take every amazing feature of this game and find flaws, something that could be improved to make the game more enjoyable.

This thread is like cat herding, no matter how much you try to steer the conversation back to what it was originally about lots of people just bring up things that aren't even relevant to the conversation. It should have been closed two pages ago.

Thanks for the update. What gets me worried about adding VR to a game like Wurm is currently there is already NO technical support for Wurm. There are plenty of game breaking issues that people are constantly incurring with nobody other than other players trying to assist with no dev support. (is there even a staff person assigned to technical support?) I have experience a game breaking bug since the animal husbandry patch, which between speaking with other players on and trying out things amongst ourselves (because again our posts in the tech support thread are unanswered) we discovered there is an Intel chipset issue which forces you to live with your client crashing randomly every 5 to 20 minutes all day long or run the game with FBO disabled which makes Wurm look like crap and cannot see further than 1/3 of the normal distance. I personally tried to live with this issue of crashing since the Animal patch and was about to quit Wurm until we figured out that FBO disable seems to be a work around for now. I got a top of the line PC which makes Wurm look beautiful but I cannot experience it because I have to play with FBO disabled until the dev's figure it out and fix the issue. Just my 2 cents but I would love to see some technical support on current issues / problems and/or more of the roadmap completed in-between major patches than any type of VR support.
