    I've been one of the many that are highly disappointed and concerned at how the game is being managed right now. But, in light of recent staff statements, I am even more disappointed. Enki, your statement on seeing red read more like a threat and excuse than anything reassuring to the community that is wondering what is happening. When you say things like the staff are not robots and "are very busy and have lives too ya know", it sounds like we, the customers, are in the wrong for wanting an engaged management. That is not wrong. That is wanting what all decent and living games provide today. We are paying customers. You are here because of us. You also say "all this doom and gloom is just a mood that people feel from time to time, public updates will resume when the devs are ready", and this, to me, sounds like Wurm is not about us, the players, but about you, the staff in the background, and what is good for you. More salt in the wounds.. Otherwise, your entire statement, including the title of seeing red comes off as very threatening and very unconcerned for the player base and where it stands. If anyone was doxxed or harassed, I never saw it, but that is certainly wrong and should be punished. However, deep dissent alone certainly is not grounds for punishment, and I hope that's not what is being insinuated. It feels that way. Pandalet apologized at one point for the lack of engagement by staff and mentioned holidays in Europe, but in my experience, significant holidays were always acknowledged by the game and its management, not a cause for total neglect of the game and its players. Demona, mentioned personal issues, and of course, I feel bad for such issues. Likewise, Enki acknowledged being away for a while. So my question is if all of the staff is either on vacation or out due to personal issues, at what point is this unacceptable? It's been going on for long enough. Then we receive this damning statement from Enki, like we're being bad children for being sick of how Wurm is being run right now. Wurm is a 24/7 entertainment and service-providing business. Like any other business that makes its money in this capacity, there needs to be regular engagement and management. No other business like this can just expect to disengage but then have a happy customer base that stays infinitely happy and loyal. Wurm is no exception. Instead, we've got a contest that was totally dropped with zero results but excuses, broken animal systems with no fixes in sight, zero acknowledgement of huge dates like the Steam anniversary, no monthly updates as promised, and very little communication except to make excuses and even threaten the player base for a very legitimate state of insurrection. If I get banned for saying all this, then fine, Wurm isn't the place for me, but I very much wanted to say that the disappointment in a game I love (and an alternative digital life I've long-loved) runs deep right now. It runs even deeper when there is no sincere apology from staff, but excuses and even threats over not just shutting up and expecting nothing but what staff wants to do "when they are ready." We deserve better.

    For a while, I have been semi inactive dealing with issues not relating to Wurm that has kept me from being as quick and courteous as I prefer to be with people. During my semi away time a lot has happened among the people here and what I have found on my return has me seeing blood. There are those among us harassing, and attacking the Developers and other Wurm team members which I will not tolerate. If your name is brought before me I will simply cut you loose. I will not waste my time on you anymore. At the same time I have been made aware of certain illicit activities occurring while I have been unavailable. Things like exploiting ways into sealed mines via means clearly not intended. We will hunt you down and remove you. I have not been active with Discord moderation since its inclusion into our ecosystem, but I am very unhappy with the things I hear and I will turn that around. No harassment shall be tolerated there. I will not tolerate the use of inappropriate materials, harassment, or doxxing, or anything that is improper for our environment. Make no mistake folks, I am very unhappy at all that has been transpiring, but know this, I know you have been concerned about the lack of recent public updates, and all this doom and gloom is just a mood that people feel from time to time, public updates will resume when the Dev team are ready. They are very busy and have lives too ya know. They are not all machine and computer code unlike the rest of us, and I am here to help keep the game healthy and happy. While I stand here enjoying my root beer float, a number of people's names are already being inscribed on my ban hammer. So lets see where it falls as I slowly dig through my backlog of work!

    Once again, we are aware within staff that communications are not ideal right now. As has been said already, most staff are volunteers, and that means that things sometimes take longer to resolve than one might like. I can't give anything more concrete than this, as I'm simply not in a position to do so, but please know that you are being heard, and we're doing what we can to improve the situation. To repeat what has been said elsewhere, if you aren't doing the sort of things Enki called out, then his post doesn't apply to you. I hope the fact that we're trying to clean up some of the worst vitriol and toxicity comes as some comfort to the majority of our player-base.

    Comparing the games industry today to 5-10 years ago, it's radically different. Everyone is far more connected through the prevalence of Twitter, Discord, and Facebook. These platforms were far less popular - or did not exist - when Wurm first started. Communication is an expectation in today's gaming industry. This was not the case back then.

    I do agree that we need some better communication - on both sides. It's one thing to express disappoint in something, quite another to harass and harangue a fellow player who happens to be in some kind of staff capacity. Most of the them are volunteers who are not compensated by the silver/money we put into the game. I can see them being just as upset as we the player base are on a lot of topics. We need to figure out a better system than this. I do play a number of other games, a large number of them with Dev teams based in European nations. Almost all of them have had no content added since July and aren't expected to add any until mid-August. I realize the difference is that they released a statement - something we need. I am disgusted at the lack of empathy for some of the players who have been dealing with rather serious RL issues. Staff or not, they are people first. If they reported to the higher up a need for time away and was approved, that's all that matters. The higher up should have stepped in and alerted us on the change. But to be that rude concerning grief and loss, I'm glad I limit my time here.

    Considering that Enki's post was meant for about 2% of the actual playerbase most have nothing to worry about. Everyone at the middle management level are not paid (except their premium maybe, unless that changed) and use their own personal time to deal with everyone elses issues. They don't get to play the game, they have to babysit everyone else. I think people just really need to get over themselves and realize that this isn't a triple A title. As for the paying customer thing, I just spent $380 in the shop last night and $200 last weekend, I could care less about updates and skins. Everyone needs to calm their utters and go back home please ty.

    I would like to suggest a future personal merchant update; Ditch the 10% tax on selling items! We already buy the contract, that should be enough. Please create a ledger, much like the wagoner history for personal merchants. Include what item sold, how much the item sold for and if possible who bought the item. I believe this will create more marketplaces, reduce the heavy reliance on mailboxes and get players away from their deeds and travelling a bit more. This would create a little more interaction between players as it is always nice to see players pop into local and have a chat. Thank you.

    Current system: 0.1kg Copper + 1kg Zinc -> 0.1kg Brass This not only defies the principle of conservation of mass (look it up), it makes any kind of work in brass an exercise in masochism. For example: the washing bowl needs 1.5kg of brass to begin, plus three brass ribbons. That's 10.5kg of brass (assuming no failures), which needs 105kg of zinc. The copper is insignificant Proposal: 0.05kg Copper + 0.05kg Zinc -> 0.1kg Brass 0.01kg Copper + 0.1kg Zinc -> 0.1kg Brass These have the advantage of being consistent with the laws of physics (okay, the second has the 10% wastage typical of Wurm) and still produces a single lump of brass.

    You know communication is bad when people see a post like "Enki Sees Red" as a positive development. If you're dealing with personal issues, fine. There should be at least one staff member who's not too incapacitated to drop a friendly note into the forums: "hey, things have been rough, pandemic, health issues, thanks for bearing with us!" It's amazing how little communication is really needed for those who want to be loyal members of the community, but worry that they're being ignored (except when it comes to collecting money).

    @Pandalet Thank you for this. This to me is the kind of transparency we all want. Updates about what our developers are up to, so we at least know they aren't just dead. If something isn't going to be done because of something in RL then so be it. It's your choice how much you work on this game, but it feels unfair for us subscribers to not get to not know how much that is.

    All should consider that Enki as head GM is also a role the person behind is playing, a sometimes bizarre, sometimes humorous one. The reaction when finding a mess (cheating in PvP, inappropriate conduct - mainly in discord) was just what was to expect. Enki as head GM is not the one to woo the community, and it would be sad if he were forced to do so, or to apologize. We would lose a part of Wurm by that. In the recent tense atmosphere this was, to my impression, just misread as an "official" reaction on player protests. I think that was and is a misinterpretation. Anyway the blame is with the company, no an understaffed and overworked development and communication team, no matter whether paid, full or part time, or volunteers.     Couldnt agree more If I tried. I dont want a full report with every single detail on each situation. A simple "hey guys, we have something going on and we cant go as fast as we would like, please understand". Thats it, just break the radio silence, thats all we wanted. Is it really that difficult to understand? is it really that hard to do? One sentence. As kochinac mentioned, now its late. This situation, plus the post from Enki was completly unnecesary and absolutly avoidable. We all are humans, we all have problems and with the exception of a few low empathy players, the rest can understand devs have a life, issues, etc.

    To be honest that wasn't clear. Given the extended radio silence and growing concerns and yes complaints from committed paying customers about the protracted lack of any let alone meaningful communication, the first two posts from staff breaking the silence came across as unapologetic smack-downs, the second more-so than the first. Yes, real life happens, and it does indeed seem like real life has been particularly real for some staff - if they need to deal with that then it will of course be their priority. BUT - the parent company basically told their investors that they weren't taking a break for NH summer, but "We at Game Chest drive on and take advantage of this low season to improve and give our customers a happy return ” The parent company should have communicated when that changed. "I know you have been concerned about the lack of recent public updates, and all this doom and gloom is just a mood that people feel from time to time," misses the point. It isn't just a mood that people feel from time to time, it is concern about the lack of recent public updates. ".. public updates will resume when the Dev team are ready. They are very busy and have lives too ya know." The last sentence is fair enough, but the bit right before it is part of the problem. The posts themselves would probably not be taken disproportionately if they were not in isolation. For instance if there was a communique saying "Sorry, folks, life happened and the wheel fell off. We expect that things will return to normal in due course. In the meantime we appreciate your concerns and are grateful for your continued patience," instead of "All this doom and gloom is a just a mood...public updates will resume when the Dev team are ready." I have never experienced a company that responds to customer concerns and complaints this way. It's a bit of a weird feeling being a paying customer calmly expressing genuine concerns and wondering if the response will be a banning. That said, "concerns" and personal venom at staff (paid or no) are two completely different things.

    Me for an example, didn't had a clue who is harrasing who. Don't expect everyone else beside too invested 20 people on the forum to keep right on track about the latest dramas

    Hear hear! Frankly, this is all sounding like "yes we were abusive, but that's cos YOU made us" is downright maddening. Enki is not saying anyone is in the wrong for wondering what's going on, he's addressing several issues: Harassment of staff Exploiting of game mechanics If you read his message, and felt he was targetting you, take a good hard think about your actions and whether you were doing any of the above. Quite frankly, this post again just oozes "you made me hit you" and that's just disgusting. Now, if that's not what you meant, and all you mean is "hey, we'd like these concerns addressed" that's fine, because I think everyone does, including the devs I'd imagine, so please do clarify that you actually aren't referring to enki seeing red as personally offensive due to the harassment towards staff and abuse of bugs that is entirely separate to the issues you raised, and instead would like a post acknowledging the issues raised and their status, that would be great to clarify.

    Tail end of that thread was just distilled cringe. Yes things could have been done better by the devs, but the sheer lack of empathy being shown made me gag (if only because it was the first time I agreed with Archaed on a thread). There are few good reasons for the dev teams actions; turns out they had one of those few good reasons. Enough said, time to wait things out.

    I appreciate what all you said as far as acknowledging the issues and such, Pandalet, but on the contrary and respectfully, this post is about how we as a community feel about recent staff communique. To say that this post is not relevant to someone unless they committed the violations Enki listed is incorrect. This is why the post was titled " Reaction to Staff Statements on Game Status" and was appropriately posted in Town Square. Again, I do appreciate what you've said above, but this post pertains to anyone who wants to say how they feel about recent staff communique in light of the game's current circumstances, provided there is nothing inappropriate said or done. Please don't shut it down.

Nothing about that post felt specific aside from I was gone but now I am here and its to punish you ( some rightfully justified) otherwise its def open to a lot of interpretation. One of those being that the first real post we get in months on the game is him threatening the player base and telling them you'll get updates when you get updates. which you know isnt an update in itself. I personally don't agree with the tone of the post acting sounding like a parent being condescending to a toddler. For me this is not an update or even communication. It doesn't count as such. also that still did not address any concerns of the user base. aside from we will get to it when we get to it which again is not professional and is not acceptable for a subscription service after several official representatives gave specific time (days often) when an update on the situation would be given. Then it did not happen. otherwise everything that can be said about the communication from this company and the lack there of. the lack of professionalism from a business and the amount of victim blaming and threats over all of this whole situations has been said multiple times by multiple people. it started out polite. not sure why anyone was surprised when it escalated after months of neglect.

    This. and this. I think a lot of the vitriol and heat could have been avoided if we had received something like this... about a month ago. This is not the fault of the individual staff members that inhabit Wurm space, so broadsides aimed at them are not only callous, they are cruel and they are misdirected anyway. As those who normally interact with us have been indisposed due to real life being, well real life, it was up to those in the parent company, who don't normally interact with us to inform us, even in vague terms, that things weren't normal but they would return to normal. Something that needs to be appreciated is that most of us (I think, I can only really speak for me, but I can read what people are saying) are not just in a mood, or flaming or trolling. We have been very concerned that this world that we love had already been abandoned. For me, that is not an exaggeration in the slightest. I don't know why I hadn't found Wurm years earlier, but it is currently about the only game I play - I am invested so much in this home from home. I only started about 18 months ago so I can only imagine the feeling of investment from those who have been here for a decade. I am moderate in most things, but truly started to feel a creeping conviction that Wurm had been left to die on the vine. The complete silence that continued well into complaints about the complete silence certainly reinforced the impression. What I have wanted has been some indication from the owners or their representatives that this impression was not reality. Pandalet has now provided that, a couple of times, so thank you very much.

    I'm adding my voice to say that I definitely misunderstood what Enki said as being applicable to me. I wouldn't have said anything about it, but this thread popped up so I felt like adding my two cents. I actually had to go back after reading how it was pointed out that he was specifically referring to only certain kinds of things and reread Enki's post, and I now do understand that it doesn't apply to me. I certainly didn't at first. However, I don't think I would have ever thought it could possibly apply to me if I hadn't already had the feeling that the staff can be somewhat capricious. For those who don't pay attention to the Indy board, I had an issue with another player a little while ago where I deeded over a mine and he fenced me out of the deed. We both submitted tickets against each other. In the end, while I was not given a directive to take down the deed, it was implied that if I didn't disband voluntarily it could become a directive and possibly there could be other sanctions as well. I don't know if the other player was sanctioned at all beyond possibly being told to stop fencing me out. I felt like that was exactly the opposite of the way the rules for the game are written, so as a result I lost a lot of faith in the staff to enforce the game rules. And even that interaction probably wouldn't have left me feeling that way if I hadn't recently noticed the Steam reviews saying that the staff routinely plays favorites with some customers over others. It really felt like a confirmation of those negative reviews. My mind was fertile ground for misreading Enki's post. In the end though, I'm glad that this post was made because it got me to thinking that if my attitude is so sour that I can misinterpret his post so badly, it's probably time for me to take a break. I've been an off and on customer for about 10 years, but the off periods were never driven before by game dissatisfaction. Its too bad updates and support for Unlimited is dead. I'd even gladly pay a recurring fee to play that instead if it had the same updates Online has.

    What a person is going through in real life also effects how they will treat a virtual life. Think of how tense things have got in the world right now and how people just want an escape from all of the rubbish that is going on. As people say "Wurm is meant to be an escape" people pay alot of money to escape the drama and problems of the world. If you already feel overloaded in real life then if your place of escape is also making you feel overloaded because of all of broken features....etc then something is going to snap. The problems in the world seem too big to fix so their mode of escape "Wurm" is something smaller that they can help fix instead. That's why there is so much investment, passion and anger as of late. Then again also think about how these things relate to the real world. Wurm online staff not communicating enough or not telling the full story is like the mess in real life to do with covid and health...etc. Even more of an connection can be made because the staff are meant to be "Authority" so if the "Authority" is not giving full info or leaving things broken then that also can remind people of the "Authority" in real life. It is all connected. That is what is different now from back then.

    Very misplaced. There was a point where the game didn't hear from devs for nearly a year and everyone still played. If you expect it like "now now now" I feel bad for the people backing the OP...

    I wrote a long note about how hard proper business communication can actually be in practice. Let's skip that and cut to the end. Great game. Great work being done here. Having a blast this past month since coming back after a nice break. Still so much content I haven't even touched. Take a break if needed but we all know there is nothing else to compare. This is all I will say on this matter.

    we repeatedly asked polity for literal months. funny how well peaceful protests of a situation never actually work. -- edit: that said the people actively threatening and attacking demona along with other people absolutely needed banned.

    A ledger would be so nice!! It's hard to keep track of sales. Would be perfect if we could access it from the merchant contract. This way we can know in advance which items to bring along for restocking when taking a trip to the market.

    This has become a complex soup of various issues, feelings, emotions and problems. Touching on any single topic now is like walking in a mine-field. I write this post with some mixed feelings of fear to be attacked by players base, and hope that better times will come. There is still much we do not know, and community is tense. That Enki is choosing to be open with communicating, and letting us all be included in the knowledge about game master related issues is a good thing. I am not aware of what things some people have done to trigger this, but I do know many people choose to exploit bugs instead of reporting them. I think this is what we want, to be informed. When I first read this post I was reading it as a reaction to our ask for intel about the game state, and I too had similar feeling as OP. How ever, I am open to the chance that this is an unfortunate coincidence. If this had happened with no other sidelined issues, and we had suffered from players stealing our stuff, then I think most would be very happy that the GM team go hard out. That said, the OP post here is a good, reflective post, that show how it was received, by many. So, all I ask, is that we keep it civil, we show that we are understanding if there was misunderstandings. Again, this is not at all any attack on the OP, rather the opposite, the OP here shares feeling many have at this point. It is just an ask that we, the players, do not escalate this thread as well into a flame-war.

    I completely agree with what you said there, and that thread indeed took a really disgusting turn. Though I also feel that the devs handled the expectations of players pretty badly. If they had simply mentioned earlier in an announcement (so not only in some random topic) what Pandalet mentioned in that reply then people would have known that things would be slow for a bit, it would have corrected their expectations. It would have staved off the pessimism, negative emotions, etc. Just let us know, without going into details (so exactly like what was in Pandalet's reply there, RL issues + vacations + AH still being worked on), it can only help. There's really no good reason not to say anything in a situation like this! The entire reason things were going negative/toxic is because of the complete radio silence since the last bugfix nearly 2 months ago, while we're still sitting with a big, somewhat broken, update.

    I'm sorry, but In disagree, that was not nearly enough. It maybe could have been before they came to situation that pitchforks are out because of it. If you know things are gonna get slow, announce it, reminds us as much as you can, if you know you ###### up, be open about it, so we don't become angry mob. Saying we are looking into doesn't justify that update was a disaster. Don't wanna be rude, but have to put it this way, this game seriously needs some expirienced game designer because no offence to developers your game design abilities sucks, it's just adding random ###### just for the sake of adding ######. An honest what we messed up post and what are problems we are looking into from developers would be a good start, but I doubt they are capable for it. The things you are looking into are just gonna patch up some dissatisfaction that is already watered down by time(who is gone it's not gonna complain anymore, its just us few lunatics who continue to play this game untill we don't) untill the next disaster. This requires some serious discussion of whats wrong with us, before "looking into". Honestly don't know how you plan to fix design so bad at it's core and planning it to be good without redoing it from the start

    Why? WU is a good game, and allows players to setup their own servers with their own ruleset and mods. That is certainly worth something if a player wants the wurm experience without being on WO.

    TEST SERVER FOR NEW PVP IDEAS There is more than one problem with Wurm/Epic, there are many. PVP is the primary issue and I think EPIC is the perfect place to test ideas for a fix. If you read only one you may not agree, I get that, its a package idea. As I said, there are a few issues that need to work together to fix it. Or try to fix it. * FULL LOOT (the main issue with Wurm) No one wants to get ganked and loose everything ....ever....single....time. This is why new players don't PVP at all. The skill gain on Epic helps but the reason I moved here was the action speed. You can build awesome deeds in 1/4 the time and can remake armor/weapons in a reasonable time. But you don't just loose weapons and armor, you loose EVERYTHING! That gets old fast. keeping your backpack with compass, flint and steel, halter ropes, ect, ect. makes a big difference. People don't take it cause they want it but during PVP you grab and go before they summon corpse, then dump it later. Don't blame the looter but it don't help the dead. *PARTIAL LOOT Not much reason to pvp if your getting nothing for your trouble right? But a bit hard to get anything decent if everyone wears garbage because they are not willing to loose a set of scale all in one shot (can you blame them). Loose one item on death, one equipped item. You loose 1, one, JUST ONE item you are using or wearing. Weapon and armor slots, that's it. For this to matter need to be able to break the items down, no one needs 5 scale boots or 7 drake gloves of varying colors. Add a % chance to drop an item dependent on the mats. If your lucky you get the rare black scale chest. If not, the red drake glove. Either way you get some loot worth getting and the person loosing don't just rage quit cause they lost an entire set and don't need to spend days making all the crap they dumped on the ground after they went thru your pack. *WAR SERVERS (ele, des, chaos) You know people will go even if its a temp server. Jackal, right? 6 month temp server.... just sayin, they will give it a shot. The concept here is .....Someone will win, once they do the loosers WILL NEVER COME BACK! Look to Defiance atm, hots spent a year of building a capital, currently getting slaughtered, from last i heard, and if they get crushed what are their chances of coming back? Till the enemy gets bored and basically quits, the server will die, again. So....try temp pvp servers between the home servers like Elevation and Defiance. Add even shorter action speeds than Epic (except with enemy in local so you cant reinforce while being raided) Reset the server with a new random map every few months. Put someone in charge to determine the time. No point ending it a day before one side wins or leaving it go when no one is playing. Allow them to build bases and start the war but once someone wins, reset. Maybe add an actual flag. Like a hota flag, with a mm drop for enemy at each capital. *HORSES You can drop a fully armored horse in 2 shots with a longbow thru the woods, behind a hlll, behind a house...... really? Yeah, archery is way to much of an issue to fix here, just make armored horses tougher to arrows. Maybe make them run faster when damaged till a certain point? like 50% damage then slower? A frightened horse will bolt, not stumble along, just sayin. *SCALE/DRAKE Need to give us the ability to break it down. Obviously the ql don't matter so cut a bit of weight. Many people on Epic have drake armors. Give them a reason to wear it. Not loosing every stitch when you loose a fight, and they may actually where it. They ware it and others may come to try and take it. win win. *HOME SERVER I like that your gimped on others home servers. Takes a lot to raid them, it should, keep the same rules for home servers. Its a good reason for people to work together to defend. We currently have only one alliance on Affliction and that's the way it should be! Instead of how to remove Epic the real question..... what can we do with what we already have? Talking to the current players would be a good idea. The old players that ###### and complain about changes.... don't have a current deed... Don't care what they think, its not up to them, they left.
