Simple idea to add ping counter option to status display: I want to know how much my ping is
  2. 5 points
Why not just add "werewolves" as a spawning mob at nights once per season? The "idea" has flaws, as there's zero chance encountering a ww will not lead to taking damage, and there's no distinction between material type in the wound. Again, I see what you're going for, but you're over complicating it. This can be boiled down to: Tough mob that gives cool individual drops, requires multi to be hunted to be able to bud the full set. Werewolves aren't needed, as that overlooks a lot of possible existing opportunities, such as more goblin and troll variations, expanding on what already exists rather than trying to fit in a whole new system with clunky mechanics that doesn't fit with anything else. Good first iteration, calm down on the overcomplicated mechanics, identify your goals and whether it fits with the game, then work from there.

I'm sorry I was reading this over again and this broke me this utterly broke me I'm just imagining the devs hiring some random guy from Cameo or something with a £2 mic AWOOO'ing for the sound effect

-1. By playing on a pvp server you accept the inherent risks and ramifications of playing on a pvp server. If you don’t like it then simply play on freedom. Gosh, I can’t believe pvpers want to make the server more interesting. It’s like they want equal rights or something.

Well, one thing for sure, Wurm could have more variety of monsters.

"hey lewis do you remember that time we made an entire server completely flat?" Come on down to The Crusty Crab or something I already forgot the name Time keenly positioned to interrupt the Friend-along as much as possible: no I haven't seen any related tv program to this Leatherworking blood, everything rolled

I suggested something similar to this a while back (set classes with fixed skill combinations that have higher skill caps on free to play and give an affinity-like bonus for regular play). Honestly, wurm does have premium classes already, they're affinities that are randomly awarded/chosen. Sure, such a system means someone could create a pile of alts and never pay for the game. The thing is, that is a lot of work, switching boxes and generally suffering; a few will do it but the majority won't bother. 100% free players are not a waste of server space; indeed they create and bring content to an otherwise dead world. Wurm relies on its players, and I've seen non-preme newbies make some beautiful things. They definitely need more freedom if wurm is to ever grow again.

Whats ridiculous is the concept that you won't be strong enough to beat up a spider after working as a miner your entire life, or that you'd need an alt for mining+pickaxe and prospecting+pickaxe as if they both wouldn't be put under the profession 'miner' or something. This really blows and I gotta ask the same question I think ive asked before... Bruh why you be like you are? Actually install and play the game. Why is your account not barred from posting suggestion threads yet?

In my opinion the gains are fair... Got 98 masonry and only grinded SC. The rest came from towers, many bricks, houses and bridges, wich I think they give very good gains. Also know a bunch of peeps with +90 masonry... Really not a hard skill to raise.

technically speaking, a player collecting animals creates 0 server lag. There's a set amount of mobs on a server, as you can see in the graphs. say for example cele has 26k mobs and 1 person, if this one player hoards 1k animals in his deed, there's still 26k animals on the server, but only 25k of them are wild. If anything, the animals are often hitched or put into a pen, reducing/removing their pathfinding ai using cpu cycles, which would reduce server lag.

I don't want the game to go the path of so many others in the past. I don't want to see the community slowly fizzle out and Wurm Online end up abandoned. This game has been around for so long and I want to see it continue since it's been so enjoyable for me in the past 5 years since I started playing. Others have played for a decade or more. There's so many lessons capable of being learned from other successful games out there with successful business models. I'd like to see Wurm Online adapt to the current gaming market, and others here are suggesting the same. At the end of the day, a forum is for discussion about topics. A topic was presented, and people are discussing it. I don't agree with everything others have said, but I'm not so vain as to call them self-serving because of their interpretation of the data. If you'd like to disagree with their interpretation, I think you should use counterpoints to the data or logic against their statements. You shouldn't attack the person who's presenting their viewpoint.

Mooncat Lake, Q10, Cadence. Active: basically every day, especially eastern US evening time. This is a medium sized deed with a small village feel, built on hilly moorland* overlooking the cat-shaped lake that gives the village its name. It's one of the oldest villages in south-west Cadence, having been founded on Day One. We don't like large flat areas of ground. We prefer to build smaller houses, fields, and workshops that fit in with the natural landscape. But we also have a little built-up port town area with many 4-storey buildings, and it's my dream to offer a place to anyone who wants one. What we offer visitors: Free beds at the "Mooncat" Inn & Stables, at the "Mooncat Watch" keep to the east, and elsewhere, if you know where to look. Security within the marked areas near our guard towers (single iron fences in slate and sandstone mark the boundaries). Healing areas where enchanted grass will help you fight disease and injury. What we offer villagers: Help from other villagers and allies in getting started—whether that be tools, materials, crafting help or advice. Toolbelts and leather/studded armour free or very cheap. Your own little plot of farmland, if you want one. Somewhere to build a house, or a ready-built house to furnish, or if available a ready-furnished house. Access to the village inn, storehouse, barn, kitchen, foundry, mine, fields, temple, and tavern (if you like blowing off steam, roleplaying, or just getting drunk). Use of the village fleet (lingonberry and rose vessels of every type), once you're capable of commanding them. Draft and riding animals, once you're capable of using them. Help shipping goods in or out by mail, wagoner, and longship. What we ask from you: Don't trash the place. Don't cut the oak trees. Don't destroy the tundra. Don't take stuff with another player's name on. What we don't ask: We don't expect you to work for us — unlike certain other "recruiters", who are really only interested in what you can provide for them. There are no strings attached to being here. We don't ask for money. The deed upkeep is provided by the mayor. If you're interested, come and take a look. You can sleep in the inn, barn, or training camp building. If you want to stay for longer, we can talk about building a house for you. PM Sheffy (Mayor) for more information. *tundra is the best we can do

I did. I also play enough to be a well known mason and stonecutter, its kinda my profession in Wurm, kinda the gameplay I chose.

So if there was a certain player I *really* hated, I could just walk down there, make a bunch of free alts, teleport them in one by one, log them out, and then wait for the werewolf nuke to strike?

Pretty much how I feel about it. We don't need some weird, dumb system to say HEY I DO X THING to have a profession
  25. 1 point
I am just adding in here that many people are renowned for their 'profession' of choice - like Hvergi as the games go to blacksmith for most things, Stanlee and Siegfried as the go to priests for enchants, I am pretty well known for masonry and my love for brick production, we have people known for their work as chefs for pizza making etc....the concept that there are no current professions is ridiculous. I just took a 2-3 month break from the game and returned because I got a discord PM about something looking to buy 40,000 bricks....professions exist, theres just no shitty black and white, hard locked system to lock people to those professions.

Dear bidders! Apologies that I will not be present at the auction end time however I trust that most of you are familiar with the auction mechanics thus not needing any intervention on my end. Just a reminder that there is 1 hour sniper protection for this auction. Sniper protection: Sniper protection will extend the auction by a set time after the last bid. For example, if there are 2 minutes left in the auction, with a 1-hour sniper protection, and someone places a new high bid, the auction is extended by 1 hour. If another bid comes in after that, the auction is extended again by 1 hour from the time of the bid, and so on, until there are no more bids within an hour of the last one. Good luck!

Yes, it is a bug, not of the saddle sacks, but of the saddle itself. It can be corrected by a GM, if you submit a ticket for it. Thank you for the bug report, this is useful.

Thanks, I was wondering where mine went Must have overlooked this one. Yeah, there are still 15k agros hiding somewhere, but you cant deny something is wrong since the donkey-spawn update. I have a huge (and I mean HUGE) mine, practically the mountain next to my deed Havilah is hollowed out. I could hunt big amount of lava spiders, lava fiends, black bears, bugs, etc in there every weekend, but now its completley barren, agros didnt respawn after being killed in there. The mousehole desert also, has 2 spawners on there, huge desert (so lots of natural spawns), still nothing (besides the 2-3 hell horses), other people from a few other corners of inde report the same emptyness. Even went to the top of a huge mountain, capped with steppe, where only I have access to (because a friend of mine put me on the permissions ogf the houses in that tunnel leading up to the top), found 3 hellhounds (and 10 donkeys and 10ish sheep). So yeah, 2 examples of big spawning areas where only I can get to, and one that is public, so someone cleaning those out every day would seem very unlikely (desert could be possible, but the numbers on the graph dont lie). I dont know if its because everybody is breeding domestic animals like crazy since new AH, and the agros pool is getting used to make non-agros, but I tought that was fixed years ago, so agros dont drop so drastically when more people have passive animals. Anyways, I'm killing every passive creature I see now to, in hopes to see something happen to the agro spawn in north-west inde. But not looking so good atm. EDIT: And yes, I wont deny, I got 10 donkeys and a bunch of fresh sheep on my deed since the update, so I can grind AH, so I might be part of the problem, but I'm still not sure whats going on with that blue line on the graph. EDIT 2: Wait?! My thread was merged with this one in suggestions? So it is not considered a bug by the devs? The huge drop in the graph since the AH update is considered ok and nothing to worry about? Oh well... guess its back to north xanadu to progress my 20k goal and grind out my skills...

I like the idea for the same reason that Virusmd does: correcting typos. But that’s it. I don’t care for the implication that someone must pick it up within 24h or else. If the seller is absolutely relying on that sale to pay for premium, upkeep, or other purchases? That’s on the seller. Buy a few more silver from the shop if it’s needed that badly. No one has any idea what emergencies might arise in the life of the person on the other end of that agreement that might suddenly and unexpectedly keep them from Wurm for a day, a week, or more. If someone is actively and repeatedly abusing that trust? Absolutely - name and shame. But please don’t assume malicious intent out of the gate.

I'm no expert, but based on first-hand experiences, I would say that 4 players with 8 animals between them seem to use more server resources than 1 player with over a hundred animals.

I haven't stated an opinion for or against it. I have recalled that a staff member thought it would be an excellent April-fool's to claim that Wurm had built-in environmental effects on horse traits that no player had ever discovered, because players weren't willing to put the realistic-effort in to 'train' the horses they had bred by riding them in circles in a pen of specified size until those traits unlocked. And that makes me wary of the Development Team's opinion of such mechanics. I haven't stated an opinion, because the priorities and objectives of small (or large) simulated businesses is quite frankly, none of my business. I'm not part of that culture and I respect that my opinion on the matter is that of an outsider. I also accept that you have given little to no thought to the effect on PvPers, since this is not your culture. I respect that expecting you to be able to make suggestions that take PvP culture and mechanics into account at this time, would be grossly unreasonable.

I agree. Moreover, I can understand, and support, that it is not possible anymore to breed a horse with "80 trait points" (old 5sp) anymore with AH 50. That is what I expected and welcomed with the patch. What is absolutely not ok is that it is impossible now to breed the old "115 trait point" horses with AH 90+, and not even the old 5sp. I just had the irrecoverable loss of one of my 2 such horses, which got attacked by a mob when I was mounted and in fight, and which was not even starving or so. I won't spread conspiracy theories, but short after that my replacement mount ("80 trait point" 5sp) got attacked by a simple spider (I was alerted and finished it off soon). I do not hope that there are schemes to take away these horses. It should be possible, of course with according skill only, to breed the horses with the traits as before, even if those traits are having somewhat different effects. As it is now, the whole patch is a large nerf and punishment without any positive outcome. Breeders with 90+ AH should still be able to breed the "8 good traits" horses as before. The decision to specialize should be left with the players.
  45. 1 point
This! Let me just repeat I agree completely. It is this concept of a dominant pool wiping away other traits that will be the death of the breeding profession. Everything else can be tweaked and patched, but this is a catastrophic invention. The point system has been invented and that alone secures that people do not straightaway make super-powered all-round horses that have ALL the good traits. The "dominant pool" mechanism is therefore superfluous, pointless and disruptive. And let me also repeat regarding tweaks: if rare traits are not made a little bit more common and workable, it will mean a lot of breeders - myself included - will stop breeding, simply because we do not wish to spend the rest of our Wurm existence chasing that illusive lootbox Macguffin.

Not possible on SFI where the market is oversaturated with 90 ql items with 90+ casts. The NFI economy was a fresh one where vets saw the obvious potential of quickly grinding up and sell basic things at a huge price. You won't see the same prices in a year or so. Items in game usually stay in game forever for a reason. Deeds disband and are quickly scavenged. Markets will go down like they've always done in Wurm. Stopping support for WU was a bad decision from the owners. I honestly don't see why they can't resupport the game, then see about importing the cool updates made for WU by individual people such as taxidermy, or various items added to WU by enterprising gamers. Not to give a bad comparison but it would be similar to how bethesda releases bare bones games then knows the modding community will add QoL aspects or new items, quests, mechanics, knowing the modding community will do their job for them. From a game design / moral perspective, it's obviously a bad practice, but from a business perspective, importing code that would be compatible with WO would make sense to add content for WO made by WU modders. One big update a year and a broken one at that such as the AH model is nothing but writing on the wall for WO at this stage. Wurm had to run out of steam eventually (no pun intended) if it relies on "volunteers" to keep it alive instead of actually paying people to develop it. This isn't sustainable. It's a pipe dream if anyone else thinks that.
