3 pointsThe Venerable Angry Horse-hater is here! And frankly, this one's personal. Good pre-patch horses were lost to this one. Bring your sharpest revenge-sticks to Bruce's Flying Circus! And for their sakes: do not bring a horse! Any other mount (that may join Dancepick and Lightningace) are fine. Take those ropemaking potions, and make rope in the honour of those that fell.

2 points+1 Masonry gains from building stone bridges are even worse iirc. You'd think that activity would definitely build up skill.

2 pointsWe strongly need a log feature of the deliveries - including log entry of outgoing mail waiting for pickup, log entry on pickup or return. It can be so very confusing for heavy mail users. (also please include a transaction log for merchants....) On the bundled deal issue there is a workaround - put the items into a barrel, backpack or similar. That way the recipient can only accept the whole package or nothing, and 1c extra paid for the mailing of the container is not a high "insurance" fee from your side (I always deduct that mail cost from the total so the buyer will not be charged 1c more than expected).

2 pointstechnically speaking, a player collecting animals creates 0 server lag. There's a set amount of mobs on a server, as you can see in the graphs. say for example cele has 26k mobs and 1 person, if this one player hoards 1k animals in his deed, there's still 26k animals on the server, but only 25k of them are wild. If anything, the animals are often hitched or put into a pen, reducing/removing their pathfinding ai using cpu cycles, which would reduce server lag.
-
2 pointsI'm no expert, but based on first-hand experiences, I would say that 4 players with 8 animals between them seem to use more server resources than 1 player with over a hundred animals.

1 pointI doubt I will have the time or long term inclination or current skill but from looking at the files last night I think the following 'super mods' are 100% possible. 1. A complete conversion of game from Java to C# so that it can be used in the Unity Engine which can result is stunning graphics 2. A completely disconnected from the internet or any LAN base setup or pseudo setup for true single player experience 3. a Sci Fi version of the game. same rule sets just different models.

1 pointOlive oil is used in some cooking recipes. Olive oil is used in the creation of compasses; to start a compass, combine olive oil with a pottery jar. Olive oil can also be used as fuel in lamps and lanterns. Olive oil is used by spirit templars to refill off-deed lamps within 24 tiles of deed.an on-deed huge oil barrel or huge tub will be used as the source for refilling). Oil is possibly not used in Wurm furnaces - not in a position to test at this moment. This mechanic is not a Wurm furnace. It's the equivalent of smashing a lit oil lantern in a hay loft IRL.

1 pointHi guys, I'm gonna start off by saying, I'm sick to death of people abusing the mailbox system.. asking people to cod them items and never receive them. Not only does this depreciate the item's value as the time taken to get it back is like 2 weeks, you might need to sell for reasons like buying prem or items off other players and are relying on that coin! When I sell items I for one expect the buyer to collect that day at the most, recently I had the last straw with someone not getting the mail, not going to mention any names but its one of the most ignorant things someone can do on here if they intend to do it on purpose. So I thought of the Mail Call-Back option ! When you send mail and it goes over 24 hours without being received there should be a option for the sender to call back the item, this would incur a charge to the original sender and would give ample enough time for buyer to collect it, but if its goes over the 24 hours and sender still wants it to stay there for the buyer the mailbox system would do the same as always and send it back in a week or whatever the time out is. This is something that protects sellers on this game from people taking advantage in a malicious and long winded way, but also protects the buyer as they have a 24 hour window to collect the mail at said price.

1 point1. I feel that burning should use hay block and oil as components. Quality = fuel capacity. There should be no special requirements to snuff a structures-only damage-dealing fire other than being within range of the tile. It can only be fueled with oil, either directly, or in a pottery container on the same tile. A simple newbie pottery bowl is enough. Damage is limited to a 1x1 tile and its borders. Damage is distributed unevenly to borders unless the "tinder block" is precisely aligned to the centre of the tile with Move. Cannot be lit on a wet tile. Requires destroy structures permission on-deed in same-Kingdom. Cave and aboveground are considered separate for damage and fuel, but fire sprite shows in both locations. Right-click-tile -> Snuff works from cave and aboveground. Snuff turns a lit "tinder block" into a "cinder block" - [cinder block quality = tinder block quality * % of fuel capacity remaining * fixed decrease] - which can be restored to a tinder block with oil. Both tinder blocks and cinder blocks can be burnt in a furnace without damaging the furnace or the surrounding area. Spirit templars will prioritise and snuff lit tinder blocks as soon as they reach them, so deed guards must be dismissed to use this mechanic effectively. Tower guards will check for and prioritise lit tinder blocks if called upon. (Etc. etc. so as not to make it the new OP PvP meta, or a griefing tool on Freedom.) 2. Only available to those with permission to destroy structures on-deed within same-Kingdom. Must be disabled off-deed, on PvE servers, as players and their riding animals and vehicles cannot be mechanically attacked there, afaik. Mayor demolition buff extended to draft-animal destruction. 3. Player-built structures should have a 24 hour cooldown in which the player who created them can use a crowbar to utilise Remove functionality.

1 pointGo visit the Harvestmoon alliance - see the animals that are penned NOT to prevent access but contrariwise to facilitate access. Oh, you can't because you don't and won't play. Do us all a favour and don't go visiting the motives of people who are playing a game with which you are not even involved. Also the question is NOT "whether the pen limiting movement also limits CPU consumption" but whether you can back up "Large farms with dozens of animals consume server resources a lot more than a few average players."
-
1 point1. yes to burning 3. break stuff to scrap/shards/what-have-you with a crowbar 3+ recover some components at low QL, with a crowbar or something.

1 pointnot exactly true.. trolls actively look for way out of their fencing, being fences or walls.. they will try to look for a way out and bash a wall here and there.. so they do - do their thing... as for other animals.. they do the same(want example.. recent bug with creature not where it it hitched.. and once unhitched it storms for 20-30+ tiles away where it's target food tile is) .. with hunger checks, but are prevented with their pathfindings to reach the food.. so.. yea.. fun story, we now have the override that pulls animals first to feeders rather than random tile to graze.. but rest of the code probably is the same.. for wild animals if there any heavy impact... we'd hear about it... bottom line... if deeds and hordes of animals on them were server issue - that would be CCAB issue to solve with more coding and optimizations, rather than forcing players and rng killing their creatures(*)... it's part of the deal and all bonuses to animals ondeed, along with the limitations like creature per tile.. and *debuffs that impact all creatures and certain events if that is below 15.. etc etc.. blah blah...

1 pointThe sale had nothing to do with it. This started long before there was ever any word of a sale. WU updates started out coming out 2 weeks or so after the WO update, then 5-6 weeks, then 3 months later, then 6-9 months or even a full year later. Then they would announce that by golly they were going to do better and start keeping WU updated more regular, but instead it actually got worse. Then they simply realized the "team" was simply too undisciplined and unfocused an organism to continue even pretending they could stick to a disciplined pattern or schedule, so they simply ditched it because no one on the team was really interested in doing it. This is the same development team that took like six years to introduce sheep, even after they had the model done and showcased to the community. They were excited but then almost immediately lost interest in sheep. They are the George R.R. Martin of game developers, progressing by whim and impulsivity and crumbling if forced to stick to any kind of a rigid discipline. Sometimes creative people are like that, and can promise more than they can ever deliver, even if their hearts were in the right place. Sometimes it is the same artistic force that initially creates something different, that no one has done before. Things get done when and if one member of the team gets interested in it, and no one on the team thought it was "fun" to update the WU code update after update. Who can keep those kind of promises, especially if it looks like they aren't going to get sued over it? I even believe they initially felt dang bad about it, just as I am sure GRRM feels bad knowing in his heart of hearts that A Song of Ice and Fire will never ever ever EVER get finished. And I am pretty sure the reason Rolf sold the company was after so many years he just lost plumb interest in it, and who can blame his team if they kind of have done the same, especially since WU was no longer bringing in much regular income from sales. Zero benefit to keeping your word. And it was dragging the entire team down in morale. I tend to think of it like a mountain climber who gets in trouble and panics and cuts loose his longtime climbing partners below him at the first sign of trouble, in hopes maybe it will keep all of them from falling to their deaths. Wurm was struggling even with just WO let alone the increasing weight of promises made to WU, even if as they said updating WU wouldn't be any extra work, and even if it was the initially hefty WU sales that brought a huge one time influx of money that saved the company. Yes it is kinda scummy, but hey what can you do. Certainly you would never want to make the mistake of trusting that person ever again, but on the other hand, just like the climber who cut the rope, Wurm survived. And I guess if you care anything about Wurm's survival, that's what counts. Enjoy the game now while you can, but remember that all video games are fleeting things, and many MMOs promised things they just couldn't sustain once they lost their initial interest. And few of them ever lasted as long as Wurm. As far as paid DLC for WU to brin g it back up to date with WO -- the mere thought makes me want to gag. It would take a company with ZERO remorse or integrity to charge for something they know they promised as part of the original agreement. But hey whatever, because "hey whatever" is kind of the company motto. I still love Wurm, and I don't blame the individual devs, because many of them care a lot, but this is not the type of company you would ever want to invest your money or your heart into. No company ever really is. But Wurm's business model in particular is built on whims of the moment and not on discipline or promises. It's asking something that is unfair to ask of them. That's simply not who they are. Make your peace and move on. But paid DLC is going to be ripping the scab off a wound that has nearly healed now. Which means of course -- they are going to do it.

1 pointJuly News Greetings all! This month's news post is a little bit late because there was something I really wanted to include, but it took me a little while to get around to it, find the time, and get the help that I needed. But I am very pleased to announce that the Lunar Order Academy now has a dedicated wagoner camp and market space! His name is Kelvin. Everybody say Hi to Kelvin! o/ I want to give a special thanks to AirborneASE, who was kind enough to donate his wagoner contract to us, along with plenty of other great stuff, when he made the decision to move up to the Northern Freedom Isles! I also want to thank Zelva for her assistance, since I had not actually trained up Paving on my toon and needed someone to plant the waystones for me. A champion lava spider has appeared to the south along the highway; apparently there is a mission going on, so consider this a hint if any hunters are lucky enough to read this in time! Aside from that, there has not been too much else going on. We are still accepting recruits if anyone is looking for a home

1 pointI haven't stated an opinion for or against it. I have recalled that a staff member thought it would be an excellent April-fool's to claim that Wurm had built-in environmental effects on horse traits that no player had ever discovered, because players weren't willing to put the realistic-effort in to 'train' the horses they had bred by riding them in circles in a pen of specified size until those traits unlocked. And that makes me wary of the Development Team's opinion of such mechanics. I haven't stated an opinion, because the priorities and objectives of small (or large) simulated businesses is quite frankly, none of my business. I'm not part of that culture and I respect that my opinion on the matter is that of an outsider. I also accept that you have given little to no thought to the effect on PvPers, since this is not your culture. I respect that expecting you to be able to make suggestions that take PvP culture and mechanics into account at this time, would be grossly unreasonable.

1 pointI would like to see two options. A Recall Items command, on your mailbox, that would immediately send back to you any item(s) that were waiting in anybody else's mailbox charge you the mailing cost for each such item, if it had been sent COD A profile option to speed up the time out for mails that are returned. This is because I've seen two kinds of irritating behavior from mail recipients. First, people asking for things to be sent COD and not paying for them. Second, things being sent for free, and still not being accepted (because they put out a general request for help, and neglected to tell everyone when someone had mailed them what they wanted) and the being returned to you. I do not want to pay 1c to get this stupid spindle or whatever back, but neither do i want imps whispering in my ear every day for a week about it. ETA oh, and the first option lets you correct mistakes you may have made, without harming any other player. Sent out something for the wrong price? Recall it, pay the copper, send it out for the correct price, be more careful next time.

1 pointthoe I've never experienced this in a malicious fashion with my market, I would love to see this feature simple for the fact that I fumble finger a name from time to time and cant do anything about it for 2 weeks.

1 pointhey guys, ive enjoyed living in celebration for the last however long, off and on throughout the years. most of you probably dont know me, just a newbie hermit, never been apart of a village, every few years i hope on and build myself a little village named Onette, and time consumes it when ive had my fill. this time was different, been playing solidly since 4-5 months, pretty long streak for me. started meditation, Shenjiwurm introduces me to religion (great person!) bred horses, without the help of fo, got some nice 2-3s breeding pairs with no other traits.. i was really proud!! Reaping gave me some super good horses( another great person!!) i was hoping to start breeding 5s with, maybe i could even sell them? who knows. built my first ships. my Corbita, so proud of it. i had really turned the forest around i was living in. it started as abandoned cobblestone paths to nothing.. like much of wurm.. i dug them up. replaced the maples, it was lush. i started making wine, aging it in my cellar. ###### it was ###### man, i was so stoked. things were coming together. then i decided finally, id become a priest.. i was impatient, i should have waited for one of the friendly priests around me to convert me, but i thought id be brave and make a pilgrimage to chaos and see the alter of three.. short story, 2 guys killed me while i was unarmed, in clothing, begging for my life.. just about quit there.... serendipity struck when Reaping messaged me asking how i was. i told him my troubles, he says he'll come get me! take me back to my cherished celebration. stoked i have a chance to get off this terrible island... well same two dudes ambushed us all.. killed us.. it was all my fault .. i just didnt think it was right to leave wurm finally and for good without saying good bye to everyone i never met. i guess it saved me anyways, wurm is dying, i knew my investment would ultimately only be for my satisfaction, one days the servers would die... but man i was surprised by how aggressive they are in wilds.. i figured theres only a dozen of them, theyd at least want to roleplay some mugging, or scare me away, or something, nope. KOS on sight.. might as well be playing Rust, except in rust i have a chance to crush the guys skull with a rock when he has an AK.. i know you two are laughing at me, its ok i hope you enjoyed the thrill of killing me in a 40QL sailboat on your knarly knarr, and killing poor Reaping.. man i feel so bad, and Sadmoon i think it was? im so sorry man.. this sucks.. when Reaping told me i should have just said who killed me, he'd get him to send my corpse back, i thought they were friends and this was all a misunderstanding.. but it was all an ambush.. sigh... i used to play Ultima online... i loved playing a PK from time to time.. it was the best game in my life.. always trying to reclaim that magic. it ends buds, games die. i should start working on my own house like i worked on onette.. i dont know who im talking to anymore so im going to go watch the last episode of the Stand.. man it was disappointing.. just got NMS, gonna rock it with my vive, maybe head back to elite dangerous.. ill miss wurm! but this is my final good bye i think.. i love you ! edit: Sadheart, Oceansouth, Kissecker, and my brand new boys Fastgallant and Uzewind.. man you were good horses! i hope you dont starve to death.... ****update well, i apologize for the wall of text there, that was just emotion, i'll leave it as is though, its art =o im sailing home as i type this, back on celebration.. safe and with only time and dignity lost.. big thanks to Reaping for saving my butt and thanks to everyone else for the kind words ive decided to stay after getting a msg from Reaping saying my body and boat were recovered, the offending party was sorry, alcohol and boating may have been involved. just wanted to add this update as i do see some similar post sometimes that maybe didnt end as well, or maybe it was all just an elaborate plan to gain attention for my new product, Flik's Red Wine! Flik

1 pointI don't want the game to go the path of so many others in the past. I don't want to see the community slowly fizzle out and Wurm Online end up abandoned. This game has been around for so long and I want to see it continue since it's been so enjoyable for me in the past 5 years since I started playing. Others have played for a decade or more. There's so many lessons capable of being learned from other successful games out there with successful business models. I'd like to see Wurm Online adapt to the current gaming market, and others here are suggesting the same. At the end of the day, a forum is for discussion about topics. A topic was presented, and people are discussing it. I don't agree with everything others have said, but I'm not so vain as to call them self-serving because of their interpretation of the data. If you'd like to disagree with their interpretation, I think you should use counterpoints to the data or logic against their statements. You shouldn't attack the person who's presenting their viewpoint.

1 pointI won't touch Unity. It's a breeding ground for sloppy programming and kids who think "Hello World" makes a game. Now if you said Unreal, that might make me a tiny bit excited. The thing is... Wurm's got a custom engine, and one that's undergoing a rewrite anyway. Also, being a programmer for a while... languages tend to become simply machine dialects. I never understood all this hype to favor one or another. They're tools... yes, you want an appropriate tool for the job, but ultimately it's the skill of the wielder that determines success.
