The Venerable Angry Horse-hater is here! And frankly, this one's personal. Good pre-patch horses were lost to this one. Bring your sharpest revenge-sticks to Bruce's Flying Circus! And for their sakes: do not bring a horse! Any other mount (that may join Dancepick and Lightningace) are fine. Take those ropemaking potions, and make rope in the honour of those that fell.

Something annoying me every day is the way how the order of items in my inventory is messed up every time I log in. I have a certain order I prefer, and re-sort every time. Even when I made a mistake and choose one of the sort columns in inventory, the order is rearranged and won't go back. I would like a default order of inventory items one may choose and store, and retrieve by right click commands below "Expand all, Collapse all, Toggle imp column", e.g. "Save current item order, Restore item arrangement", maybe also a "/ command".

Can you just go play any other mmo, because clearly this isn't the kind of game you're looking for Wurm is meant to have no form of classes, jobs, professions. Faster action timers are achievable already, by just playing the game.

Who out there has loads of useless rare slate/sandstone/round stone shards and bricks? I know I do! Who wouldn't want a rare slate forge or supreme marble oven? Please allow us to make slate, sandstone, round stone, pottery and marble forges and ovens, at least to start. This could be expanded further with more items in time and different texture forges and ovens would add many new decorating options. I believe this would be a great addition to the game and add some fun options for the community! Thank you for reading.

A core tenet of Wurm is that it is free of character classes (or almost so), While professions are different to classes, in Wurm they operate kind of like they do in the real word. Find something that interests you, or a niche you think you could fill; get good at it through practice and experience. Example: I have no interest in mining or charcoal burning, so my skills in those areas remain pitifully low. My carpentry has almost accidentally risen to mediocre. My shipbuilding, however, climbed very rapidly because I enjoyed the process of making my own ships - not a profession but at least an avocation. Likewise my FS seems to have done fine, not because I am a fighter but because I am an explorer. My "profession" would be explorer/salvager, with some mountain climbing on the side (pun intended). My repair skill grows apace, but sadly there is no direct in-game reward for exploration. I recover stuff, then repair, improve and/or recycle it and wind up giving away most of it, maybe selling a few bits and bobs. am also a part-time camping supplies maker. That is all just what I choose to do; I don't see a need to label it with some in-game selection to access buffs. The "buffs" come as skill and experience at what I do (which are both better than a buff). I do like the idea of players being able to find a profession, but I also think that already happens just fine.

Not sure if Devs even look at WU suggestions, since quitting any dev work for that branch, so I posted here. I believe there is still a pretty strong group of players that play WU, despite all the efforts to kill it, by not doing any development of new content. THat being the case, wouldn't it make sense to at least offer paid DLC updates every 6 months, or every year? I have another game I play occasionally like I occasionally dabble with my WU server (for my one friend that plays it every 6-8 months) and it would be something I would be happy to pay for. Something simple like $7 or 9 bucks each. I'd throw that in my cart and buy, without even glancing at what the actual content was. It is less than a Big Mac, fries and coke, so why not? Anyone playing that doesn't want to pay for more content updates? Ok. Don't. I suppose it would be up to server admins to determine if their server will run DLCs or not. Seems like all upside? Game makes money and players that don't want monthly subs can still get the new content.

Almost every day that I play Wurm Online, I open Niarja. It helps me keep abreast of the news regarding Uniques - which I frequently host public slayings of on Freedom. Every now and then when I open the page, my heart jumps! So many new names! Oh. Right. Got got by the list of living uniques. Again. Often I'd dream of clearing up that list of uniques. Would Niarja delete the category? Would it remain but be empty? But aside from that one on Xanadu after Charcoal died, they're all on Epic. And Epic was PvP. And I don't PvP. And then one day, something very peculiar happened. Something that would forever change Stanlee; Something he would never quite forget. They took the initiative! In a spur of the moment move, I decided to take a look at the list of slayers. As soon as I could, I got in touch with Stainless to congratulate him. I reasoned that, with a name so close to mine, he must be the leader. This assumption turned out to be almost entirely correct. After some talking, I gave him an offer he couldn't refuse: I, and whatever friends crazed enough to join me, would come over and lend some peoplepower to clearing up the rest of the uniques on that server. After all, why would they stop at the hatchlings? In return, they got all of the loot. It turned out the loot was not the only incentive to this: the two champion uniques had no tether, and were quite prone to smashing defences, deeds and lost lumberjacks. I even did art for this, which I used in the signup sheet for my alliance. The signup sheet showed more interest than I'd anticipated, and it became quickly clear we'd need to make our own gear. I thought we'd just be shoved in some little shed out in the open, outside a deed for security's sake, but we were invited inside their megafort! Not only was it ridiculously defensive, but it turns out enemies have a pretty severe CR penalty on the home server, meaning we were safer there than on my deed on Release (open design, champ trolls)! Such tall walls! Luckily, skills move from Freedom to Epic 1:1 (so long as you don't have a 3x death multiplier on that skill on Epic), so I could take all of my skills over. Oh. Right. All of my skills. I main priest. That'll be a- Nah kidding, I got to like 70 leatherworking in a day over there. Skillgain is silly fast there, and so are the timers. Within a few days, we had gear that was a strange mix of good and disposable. Good in QL, disposable in how little time it took us to make and imp. In fact, PvP almost felt approachable - disposable gear, no affinities to lose. But I don't PvP. I never thought I'd get this one done! Before the big day, I got to ride around. See some of the sights. Which I'll share with you now: Collecting some of my teammates (note: a bug causes empty gear slots to be visually filled with your other cluster's gear when crossing. No effect on gameplay, and no-one else could see my mask) When's the last time you saw treeless plains? Beardyman's megadeed. Nothing like it, truly remarkable. On one fateful Friday, the stars aligned and enough of us were free to begin. Unlike Freedom slaughters that I host, these fights had a rush of mortality to them - though no-one died I think. Scale/hide drops are a set but small amount over there, no randomness to that. Sorcery items don't drop from humanoids or dragons at all. Chaaaarge! Yes, I'm using a shield with a huge axe. No, the shield isn't real, it's from the same bug as earlier. This boy was biiiiig! Double Dragon! These two were inseparable, so they died together too. Sweet. Poor guy pictured just about tanked both, serious badassery. And when the dust settled, the list had been trimmed significantly. I cannot thank our hosts enough for helping us try Epic, and guiding us. Despite what I'd frequently read on the forums - that Epic is bad - we had a blast, it was a revitalizing rush from start to finish. Think even a few carebears were eyeing up PvP! But, if you open Niarja, you can no doubt see that the list is not trimmed enough. To that end, I highly encourage people to get in contact with factions there, and do as I have! It's a real blast, I can't recommend it enough. I might even throw in a little something for someone, at random, who manages to kill one of the remaining living uniques! Edit: since originally writing this (I wanted to wait for the Creative Constructs thread to close before posting it) it seems others have taken to mopping up the rest of the list! I hope they're having as good a time as I did, and hope to see some of them write about it here if so! The Living Uniques list now stands at a whole SIX (we can't find the one left on Desertion!) and it's going down steadily!

Champion female troll breaks her way out of her pen even though she has food It makes its way out of the mine through a mine door (We assume perms don't matter when exiting) It then makes its way through a locked door and kills a player Working theory backed by CA is that since the troll is branded it's considered a citizen. However, I don't understand why it'd break its way out its pen if that's the case. And if that is in fact what is happening here then I would like to suggest that branded animals are not considered citizens. I'm not sure what advantage that brings.

I want to add (beneath that I respect and like Shenjiwurm, and think that disputes should be civilized) that the FG slaying was obviously ok. I did not participate either, for the same reasons as Nestangol. And generally spoken, I am not against private slayings, especially when it deals with drakes and dragons. It is a decision up to anyone whether to share the scale and hide with the community, or get a reasonable chunk in a private slaying. But with the other uniques things are somewhat different. It is up to every finder, and that applies to drakes and dragons, too, whether or not to share the loot, or to keep it, or parts of it, such as tome or bone, and nobody is in the rights to criticize that. And therefore, a finder of GL, FG, TK does not lose anything when making the slaying public. It is also ok, when in a hurry, to announce it on short note, even if the time of the day is not ideal, or many cannot make it in time, though it is ofc best to give a large part of the comm the chance to get a blood. Denying that chance altogether is quite egotist and petty. I cannot resist to mention that it is not uncommon with a certain sort of PvPers (fortunately not all of them) who consider generosity weakness towards "Freedumbers".

you realize that would require playing the game right??? Just checking.
  14. 2 points
Yes. Read the whole article. It isn't about training, it's about splicing in multiple copies of a gene with a built in activity inhibitor and then exposing the organism to an environment that destroys the inhibitor in many of the copies and then "discovering" that offspring don't have the inhibitor. Or don't. It won't make a difference.

Just have to drop this in here. I checked my own stats and within one year I have participated in 25 unique killings. I have never been part in any private groups and I try to attend every public ones arranged AND posted in advance (I wasn't at Deli rift so missed that FG for example). Pretty sure I also managed to participate in all of the announced ones this past year but not completely sure *. Out of these 25 at least one was found by Shenjiwurm and made public. I'm sorry I can't remember all of arrangers. But she is not hypocrite and does not need to think about her words. * (One of public ones was also my find and handed over to Stanlee to arrange, due to circumstances). Now to add, this last 12 months has been very high in public slayings, compared to most years before. BUT, private slayings still outnumber public ones heavily.

Dev vision and community vision, if wildly different can lead to a lot of negative feedback about the game and player loss. I know it sounds like I'm cpt. Obvious here but it's quite relevant now. I think the most poignant example is the fiasco at Blizzcon when they announced "Diablo Immortal" on mobile in a room mostly filled with PC gamers that awaited the next diablo sequel on PC for years. If anything, that should be a lesson to understand the needs and wants of your community and realise that "your vision" for the game will mean nothing if there's no one to enjoy it. If you want to put out a single player game, or mods out there sure, go with your vision. You might find a niche customer base to like it. But when the large part of your MMO community dislikes an update or how core game mechanics are changed and their direction, then it's time to take a step back and ask yourself some big questions. "Is one person's feedback worth more than an entire community's feedback?" "If the majority of players are unhappy with our update, what can we do to address the issue? " and of course "What aspects of the player's vision for the game can be incorporated into the game to satisfy the customer? " It's pretty clear that the update has caused a lot of frustration, confusion and general unhappiness from breeders and players everywhere. Lack of comms (or insufficient communication from the higher ups), lack of proper description of some traits and this general sense of "we don't know what's happening" that adds to the issue. My point is, the players have communicated their feedback on this update in quite a lot of threads by now and an obvious pattern of negative feedback has emerged that requires the update to be closely looked at, if not overhauled entirely. The cost of ignoring that feedback is that you run the risk in not having any more players to give you feedback at all in the long run. Unlike Blizzard / Activision, I doubt Wurm can actually afford a moment like "Do you guys not have phones?"

As new year started, it's my little wish to make all reward helmets improvable by anyone. So far helmets like plummed ones, cavalier ones etc. can be improved only by owners, yet most of toons that owns them are already gone. Most of these helmets are also probably gone, so let's keep few of these in good shape!

For helmets that obscure the face, raise the visor automatically when a person is not in combat. Optionally, Add a setting in the profile: Visor is [up|down|auto], where the "auto" setting is as described above, and the others just leave the visor up or down. The position of the visor would have no effect on combat. It's purely a cosmetic / vanity thing, but it lets people show their faces, if they want to.

As long as there was no written contract or EULA paragraph stating that, the promise was never worth more than a Darnok suggestion. It was at best a statement of intent, and the intent changed when the company was sold, or made ready for sale. As to the suggestion, +1 if feasible with sensible effort.

There was a dip in the mob count on most servers recently (Animal Husbandry update perhaps?). Green are the aggressive mobs so it does seem like it's a valid concern but ~15k aggro mobs on Independence at the lowest point still seems like enough for everyone so perhaps they wander to inaccessible areas? On the other hand, at the lowest point, it's only half of what it was in peak, 9 months ago. Smaller servers show smaller decline but the pattern is there. No mobs on Xanadu, apparently:

+1 I don't see why Devs can resell their updates for WO after X time, as DLCs, alongside player-created mods. WU server admins can then choose which mods - official or otherwise - to enable on their servers. It's probably worth trying it at least once, to get data on its cost-effectiveness. Like DVD sales after a theatre release.

There is a reason horse semen is one of the most expensive fluids at 5 million $+ per gallon if it comes from a prize stud. It it would be complete random no one would pay so much. A high producing stud produces that amount in about 2 month of daily gathering during his 8 month breeding season (followed by 4 month of rest and "reloading").

Okay, so you are proposing a whole mechanic. Got it. I would completely disagree with this. There is only one Wurm-defined and named profession, "priest". However, there are many actual professions being practiced in game, despite the lack of an official in-game designation. There are armourers, weaponsmiths, architects, engineers, hunters, farmers, ranchers, event managers, explorers, warriors, the list goes on and on. I think by your description that you play the game with the goal of skill growth. You describe the game like this; If that is how you see the game, then I agree that you may as well have a program that slowly increments numbers in a spreadsheet. To me, if the core of your approach to the game is one of making numbers in a list go up then you are missing out on 99% of what I experience in the game. No wonder you find it boring. My approach is almost the exact inverse of that. I simply don't grind skills. I only see skills as my ability to do what I want in the game. I almost without exception never do stuff in the game with the aim of increasing a skill. In my whole time playing there has been 1 exceptions to this; I actively worked on increasing my shipbuilding by about 2 points so that I could start a knarr. In all other cases, I have had so many things I want to do that if I don't have the skills for a current task I just reshuffle tasks and come back to it. I am only peripherally and intermittently aware of my skill levels. I just have no use for the kind of mechanism you are proposing. I would expect that the majority of players would fall somewhere between the extremes of thee and me. I wouldn't say many are near my end of the spectrum, but then everyone with whom I have interacted in-game has treated Wurm as a virtual world so I also wouldn't say many are near your end of the spectrum, either. Please, go have a look through the screenshots thread and the designs thread. People are not creating all that for the skill gains.

Probably the same people who are secretly benefitting from publishing population data. Hence why, I suppose, you are wearing that tinfoil hat. Ok, well deserved snipes aside; if you're a volunteer developer, and you respect the opinion of someone, you are much more likely to implement their suggestions (because you see them as intelligent on the matter). This doesn't mean "bad" (in that developer's opinion) suggestions get implemented (though many are badly implemented!), it simply means that if you put forward a good project it won't hurt if it's from your friends. Certain players are respected by the Devs, and those players have been consulted over things such as rules in the past. This isn't tinfoil hat territory, this is "go dig through the forum" territory. It this a bad thing? I suppose it depends if you're in the right clique!

yes Sindusk has a good one, Cave Vision: You can adjust via properties exactly how bright it gets, so if you only want a minor adjustment you can do that, I think default is quite bright. My understanding also is that there is a major difference in using MODERN vs LEGACY renderer, but I haven't looked at the differences between them re: mine lighting. For above ground you could also try out BDew's TimeLock that lets you determine the exact time of day (only affects lighting). If you get frustrated at night you can just hit F1 and on the fly change the time of day to something you enjoy more. whether it is dusk noon dawn or whatever time of day pleases you. Locks the time of day to a given time In console type "timelock 12" to make it always noon or "timelock 12:34" to make it 12:34 (= 1:34 pm) In console type "timelock off" to disable That's for above ground only, so you'd need both mods if you want to tweak both above and below ground.

I agree. Moreover, I can understand, and support, that it is not possible anymore to breed a horse with "80 trait points" (old 5sp) anymore with AH 50. That is what I expected and welcomed with the patch. What is absolutely not ok is that it is impossible now to breed the old "115 trait point" horses with AH 90+, and not even the old 5sp. I just had the irrecoverable loss of one of my 2 such horses, which got attacked by a mob when I was mounted and in fight, and which was not even starving or so. I won't spread conspiracy theories, but short after that my replacement mount ("80 trait point" 5sp) got attacked by a simple spider (I was alerted and finished it off soon). I do not hope that there are schemes to take away these horses. It should be possible, of course with according skill only, to breed the horses with the traits as before, even if those traits are having somewhat different effects. As it is now, the whole patch is a large nerf and punishment without any positive outcome. Breeders with 90+ AH should still be able to breed the "8 good traits" horses as before. The decision to specialize should be left with the players.

Just wanted to post a "Big Up" to @Borstaskorand the best pizza around. Quick delivery. Responsive (even after all this time). And very helpful with tips. For example, I lost a slice I bought about 2 months or more ago due to stupidity. Well, here is what I learned: Leave it in your magic chest (heating only affects nutrition filling, and won't matter much unless you are a "l33t uber grinder" (not his words, mine)), and take a quick bite from there to get that nice long affinity timer. I then use stock breakfasts I make to fill up the rest of my bar by eating it heated from my oven. Awesome service!

People have bad days, If you are that concerned about your reputation, just lay low for a bit and most people will forget it, we've all done silly things at one point or another. The game goes on. Give it another try and if you have issues with people in the future, you can address it then. There are lots of other people to trade with. Hope you stick around and give it another chance.
