Most people dread doing surface mining (not me!). It is slow work and most of the time, just inspires people to throw dirt on the project to get it done quicker. I've been spending hundreds of hours digging up old dirt that was tossed on a mountain and surface mining the mountain to fit my new plans. What is very apparent is the one missing element from surface mining work: - No Rewards! I have about 30 emeralds (not a single bone in my life yet!) from digging the dirt, but after a good 10k rock shards, I just have arthritis and worn down picks. So my suggestion is to add some kind of a reward to surface mining. NOT an awesome reward. We don't want people SMing the server under water and eliminating any chance to make a cave or mine ores again, but it sure would be fun to have some small reward/s drop in inventory from time to time. Source and gems? Metal Lumps (not moon)? Just a thought and probably not too difficult to add.

There will be a post from a dev in the next few days responding to concerns and clarifying things. I personally don't know exactly how things were intended to be, and have not been breeding to see how my own results stack up. I've just been making runes to keep my current favored animals from aging. I do agree that something is not right, and have said that quite a lot of times through this thread. I am sorry it's been that way for everyone, I know you are unhappy with the results.

It's not made specifically for the contest (it's all done by me, so we're talking years), and it's not finished, but it's definitely in the defence category. Combat and defence Theme:

Not-so-fun fact. I am dire at combat. I don't need other players to kill me, I'd die to a mob train. And that's not so much stats and skills, as inability to grasp basic principles of Wurm combat. I need a dedicated shotcaller, working with me, calling out what I should be doing, whilst watching my stream. And Discord doesn't allow you to watch one stream and speak specifically to the streamer alone, whilst hearing everything else going on in a group battle. Does that mean other players who are talented at PvP principles, and in competitor teams, should be banned from playing Wurm for 'griefing/zerging'? No. It's taken me a while, but I've found my place in the PvP community. It's still horribly frustrating at times, because I unreasonably feel I should be able to do what other people can do, and many think it's just a matter of stats and skills, and it's not. But I CAN potentially plan and build challenging defences, if I get my RL-skills high enough. And I can include my whole Alliance in the construction of these defences, as long as I use enough signs and construction markers, and maybe some screenshots of phased construction, and know how to efficiently get their account's core skills up to minimum requirements. (As opposed to using alts to skip the need to have good relationships with other people.) I can make my Kingdom's lands a fun place for enemies to come and play with us in, and secure my Kingdom's future on this server by doing so, for my part. But don't ask me to go "Kill 4 X-enemy tower guards" for a Valrei mission, because I'll end up in a really bad mood when I fail, because I will feel I am not-good-enough to contribute to PvP-community priorities. The same is true for this. No, I don't want duplex blocks for people who can't build good defences with the components available. I'd rather they either serve an apprenticeship with me, and then convert-Kingdoms/switch-servers and build their own thing, OR I'll supply them with the blueprints for old builds, or even builds I never made, so that they can replicate my designs in a competitor group, if they can't reverse-engineer it by raiding older deeds which are weaker builds, possibly even abandoned entirely, but suitable for their needs at this time. And I'm happy for competitors to know that. I'm not the most talented architect out there, but I am learning to become one. I like terraforming. It's slow, requires depth of understanding of the mechanics, and the ability to reverse-engineer the reasons why certain restrictions exist as 'OP'. And your 'castle wall' blocks are OP. Just an afk click-fest of spamming add-component after having used skill-grinding to reach the account requirements of doing so, to build something better than everything else in the game. If I had those, I'd have to ban myself from utilising them on this server, because it would be game-breaking for inter-Kingdom PvP, and I'd get bored because there would be no point in designing anything creative anymore. Block-block-block-done. Best-build meta accomplished. AND either newbies couldn't build it until they had played the game for months, or everyone could build it within 2-weeks on a new account. -1 for killing sandbox depth and all requirement for community cooperation.

Many (possibly most) of Wurm's canals are canals in tunnels. When Wurmians speak of canals, they include tunnels for boats. There are also highway tunnels. The fact that you don't like them is insufficient reason to force every other player to have go the long way around forever.

I really like the look of this, but I have to agree with the above sentiments. It would be nice to actually keep such items and be able to have them receive the same immunity to decay as decorations receives. The inverse relationship between reality and Wurm decay has always bothered me: In wurm, a flag left out in the wind lasts forever. A hammer stored in a chest (in reality, oiled down and wrapped in an oily rag) decays constantly.

I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to the devs for some of the QOL changes that have been added. I'm thinking about the drag and drop equipment onto animals change. This change has been a true blessing, especially when dealing with hell horses, less time needed to open up windows and equip gear, means less time I'm burning alive So I know many of us are still frustrated with the changes to AH and I hope that some of us still have hope in the team to smooth things out and to continue to fix things....I hope they still are working on this and have not moved on to other things. But I did want to say thank you, its not said enough, we often focus on our frustrations and let the good things slip through the cracks.

Category: Wacky and wild Server: Xanadu (M10 Highway towards east from Hermit's Rest) So this is what happens when you want to connect to a road but there is mountain in your way... Smart move of course would have been to either make zigzag road up (but I wanted straight road) or tunnel through (but I had done so much tunneling already). So being not so smart I chose to surface cut my way. Also, this road goes from west to east, but I also incorporated the road going north-south above the mountain into this. A view entering the area from south Entering the area from east Looking towards west from the bridge Few numerical facts: from beginning of the road the highest point in the way was something of 1800-2000 dirt up, not completely sure as I did not record all of process at beginning. Right now from start of ramp to level of colossi and bridges is 1760 dirt height. Water is about 110 lower. (There is marked path of power tile in southeast of area, colossi and bridges are not quite high enough.) Ramp goes up 32 tile length, after that road to east runs further 80 tiles that needed to be surface mined. Parts going north and south are together about 80-90 tiles of serious terraforming. Numbers of tiles may not sound that much, but please remember when going more than 300 slope, means you need to change the tiles next too. And maybe tiles next to them as well, to get the needed slope over distance. Little edit: addition to highlight some of the scope of this as pictures and numbers don't convey it that easily. The 4 colossus and 4 bridges at the top of the area took me something like a week to craft, maybe less. This whole road-thingy...no clue, couple years or so, probably more, difficult to say as I think I started this around 2017, not sure, but took few several month breaks from the game and just finished the last decorations now. Just saying if you try to do similar thing, don't expect to finish it tomorrow - Nestangol (Mayor of Northwind Cove, owner of Hermit's Rest, Maker of West Hammer Lake Canals etc.)

I swear that I did try to limit the amount of screenshots I have taken over the years - but I still got 32 pictures left - so bear with this long post. These are all taken on WU server Sklotopolis - hence some ideas may not be possible for WO. Some mine-creativity: Love this one - belonging to Iamyourfather. Cant recall who owns this place. Creative use of a mine to create a basement (I know Iamyourfather has a setup like this as well, only I forgot to screenshot it and I am too far away to be bothered to run over there atm). Now for more creative use of items: Are comments even needed? Colossi of Fo by my own deed (before they rotted away off deed... RIP color runes + colossi..) Hedges aline perfectly into the spirit gate - who knew? Temples + marble buldings + bridges = AWESOME. Courtesy of Mike. I like how a marble keystone adds a bit of flair to this merchant setup (my own setup in the past - I have since forgot to utilize this idea! O.O ) Combining two (or more) marble planters in order to create a pattern. You can add two more for even more "spikes" - I think I prefer this one though. Unfinished bee-hive = perfect if you want a smaller wooden planter (they take 0 decay on deed as well \o/ ) Grabbed this screenshot from Dweias deed - I love how the wooden trellis is hidden and it looks like the greenery is climbing on the iron bars instead. Gaming room from my 3d labyrinth in the making - figured out a way to make gaming tables :D Lets just say this one is crazy... This is A LOT of nori (the green stuff), and I believe I have both marble tables and something smaller underneath of the nori to get the perfect placement of things. A proper throne \o/ One of my bars Another bar of mine - this one I have shared before I believe? But figured I would collect it here :) Kitchen counters and a kitchen island with a little bar section. Nothing crazy here really - just a "TV" in a corner and a sign pushed into the wall to the point where you can read it but not see the actual sign. Altars + jack'o'lanterns + flowers + mint = awesome halloween decorations. My closet - it looked awesome when I made it. Lets just say the white dotted flowers on the shelves rotted away (as did lots of things) - but it was pretty while it lasted? I find fireplaces look so much better with a few flowers on top. Here I combined it with a couple of gold staffs. On my server we can wax items to keep them from decaying as fast = more fun decorating with them. A proper bathroom - the only thing I didn't add here is a steamy fog spider corpse inside the tub. Marble keystones, tables, some cooked rice for water, sheets as towels, an empty catseye as a soap - the rest should be obvious what it is I imagine. Keystones can be used for lots of purposes (see bedroom picture for reference to whats underneath the keystone). Just a randomly decorated living room - not sure if it can inspire someone (pardon the custom graphic banners in the background - was playing with texture packs at the time..) Buoys used to mark a canal - maybe not extremely creative buuuut when I shared it on my server few people were aware these things even existed :) Building ideas: Pretty happy with this treehouse design - not quite finished is all. And a pier from my event deed in the making (also played around with this idea: ) This guy wanted to visit: Lighthouse from my own deed. Was fun to be able to make an actual spiral staircase inside. Can't remember whose house this is, but I saved a screenshot cause I liked the way the T-arches go with the palisades. Maybe useful to someone? :) I believe this is from Stargraces deed? (correct me if I am wrong). Thought it was highly creative :) Another one from my event-deed in the making - with the clever use of bridges I managed to make a layered city that looks connected. Can't really utilize carts or wagons on it though - they tend to glitch through the bridge/house connections all the time :( (At least no carts will be allowed for the labyrinth = non-issue)

With no linking to EPIC Clusters, we are stuck with the dirty green Wagon, Banners & Flags!!!!!!!! Since Defiance doesn't support PMK's there is no way to get or make those cool banners & wagons that we all loved back in SFI. We had a discussion in global chat and I received some amazing ideas! Let us make PMK in NFI itself as Defiance isn't much active and it's just 1 map which won't be great for PMKs, or let Alliances have their own banner designs for wagons, maybe rename or create Alliance Banners same as Kingdom Banners ! A Competition for Banner & Wagon designs like we had for tapestries back in the day and pick 5-7 designs from them ! For Wagons, make a dyable version so we can color them ourselves, even if just solid colors, maybe some basic 2 color stripes would look really cool ! The same designs for Tabard would be great too ! Archeology has a lot of stuff so why not PMK banner & flags too and maybe cloth that works as skin for wagons! (Papapazza) Talking of Archeology, scroll fragments to rebuild the scroll or parchment which gives the reader the ability to create all or specific artwork from the PMK it belongs to! (Papapazza) This is a personal recommendation that I think would be great, skins for Huge Axe and plate armor as those are the most used in the game and honestly, trident might make us look like Aquaman, but hardly anyone I see using spear so a skin just to show and not use in a fight isn't something I personally would go for. If anyone has more amazing ideas regarding the topic, feel free to pm me on forum or Wrumdragon ingame and I would love to add it in. Don't kill me for not mentioning the names on the initial suggestions, it was a big discussion and tough to remember who suggested it in the first place.

Since last update, I have seen two (so far) weird bugs related to skill gains and reporting. * Getting two skill ticks from single meditation (one very low, and one normal), at least in the "Skills" tab. * Skills window, and Skill tracker both lit up green now and then, but unsure if skill is given. No mentions of skill gains in "Skills" tab (yes, I have always report on).

It seems fair that a rock shard produced by surface mining should have the same chance of being accompanied by a gem, or source crystal, as a rock shard produced by mining underground.

Posting another speed test as my first draft dominant horse, Seaally, has grown up! He's a young boy now and is gorgeously chonky. He has 3 draft traits - strong legs, carry more and strong body. I'm comparing him to my pair of 0 draft mules pulling my cart with a 5% speed rune, carrying me with an inventory weight of 32.20kgs and an assorted cargo weighing 2,376.38kgs. The mules are adolescent Lame and Adolescent Alfie. Their shoes are 85-90ql with woa casts from 87-96. Their saddles are 51ql and 67ql with 32 woa respectively. On my flat road they pulled my cart at speeds of 18.82 to 18.76kph. I put Seaally in Alfie's place and give him his gear. This time we went from 19.41-19.45kph. Clearly draft traits make a difference! I thought I'd try another test replacing Lame with my first draft horse, adolescent Raidfalcon. He has 2 draft traits, carry more and easy on gear. So only 1 actually affecting his ability to pull a cart. He got Lame's gear. This time we went from 17.98 to 18.00kph. So a 0 draft mule is better than a 1 draft horse! Seaally makes a reasonable riding horse too. Using another riding horse's gear, a 72ql 70woa saddle and 90ql shoes with 90-95woa casts we went from 26.76 to 28.86kph. So not a slowpoke!

rng chance to get random normal metal shard instead of rock? that will incentivize noobs and random people to poke a few actions to tickle the gambling rng gods for a roll to get a lump or 2 of the metal they randomly need, it's like that quote says: --edit I'm ok with instead.. normal gem rng chance for mining, and if the tile is source crystal source to give such at normal rate chance?(with or w/o limit to crystal gain per tile) if it's not already a thing.. sounds reasonable to be..

Maiya is absolutely right. Players should not be required to opt out. The burden should be on *you* to obtain consent from mayors before publishing a deed's location. The majority of Cad deed owners will not even see this thread, and will have no idea that you've taken it upon youself to make their location public without their consent. There are plenty of reasons people don't want their deeds on a community map. One is that if a player takes a break from the game, gets distracted by RL and forgets to add upkeep and the deed falls, other players will consult the map the moment the disband is announced, head over, and grab everything that is not nailed down. If someone wants to try and avoid this type of situation by keeping their location private (or if they have other reasons for their decision), that is their prerogative. Please don't mess with it.

I wanted it to feel more real and have merchants show off their wares. It's been a labour of love for a long time and will continue to be so, I always love improving things or adding new items or merchants. U got it backwards, I’m not saying a pvp player would buy the forge. I’m saying if a pvp player is grinding masonry and makes a rare forge on the pvp server, then they could sell it to someone on the pve server. And skills do cross so idk what ur talking about
