Anyone upset in not seeing improvement in the game recently is a side effect of poor communication. Over-promising and under-delivering every few months will lead to negativity among players. I only started playing Wurm Online for the first time when the Steam servers launched, and since then have seen 3 iterations of development changes and awful communication on repeat. It follows the same trend and usually has a roughly 3-month iteration: An awful, anti-consumer change is made. They try to calm down the negative feedback saying "things will get better soon." Or worse - they decided it was fine and claimed the feedback was not a problem without solid logic. They announce something new coming around the corner to try and shift attention. People forget about the anti-consumer change and get hopes up for the next update. The next update launches, is underwhelming, and generally accompanies one of the aforementioned anti-consumer changes. I guess people might think I'm just being negative here, so let me cite all 3 instances I'm referring to. Priest Linking Changes - August 2020 Shortly after Steam launch, the August 10, 2020 Patch came with a significant nerf to linking between priests in order to gain skill. This is the anti-consumer change. The feedback thread is filled with attempts to put the fire out promising things will get better soon. Another patch was made on August 11, 2020 which reduced skill gain instead of reducing favor regeneration. The nerf changing minimum favor from 10 to 20 remained, and priest linking for skilling remains ultra nerfed to this day. People were continuing to argue about it, so what better way to put out the fire than to Announce Cadence on August 15, 2020. Imbue Nerfs & Moon Metal Introduction - December 2020 There was NFI Feedback thread on December 14, 2020 in which players discussed the current declining state of NFI and the splitting of the players among the servers. During this time, discussion about the future of the game came about and this comment was made. To the best of my knowledge just about none of this has been improved or resolved since the post was made. In terms of advertisement, I have not seen any increase in advertisement nor has their been any significant results from it if there has. In terms of updates, at this very moment it has been 44 days since the last update on April 1, 2021 which consists of 2 patch notes. This goes towards the inner workings of development/moderation since this doesn't seem to be a very efficient development process. Despite all this, they make an announcement the next week with Valrei Internation on December 22, 2020 where rifts, runes, and imbues are coming to NFI. Little did we know that they would instead completely gut all of it when it was added on December 29, 2020. The feedback in the thread was met with solid resistance claiming that it was necessary and they didn't just ruin hundreds of euros of investment from committed players without proper compensation. A few weeks later they begin pitching the "combat overhaul" in Valrei International on January 22, 2021. Combat Changes - March 2021 The combat overhaul is put into public testing on public testing on February 22, 2021. So many adjustments and issues were brought up in the feedback thread and were basically ignored. Some players claimed that combat had gotten significantly harder and their questions were never answered. No discussion along the lines of what was proposed, why it was or was not possible. No communication of why certain things were changed in certain ways, only a short list of changes with no context. The combat update was released on March 11, 2021. Communication on the success or failure of the combat update is basically non-existent. Follow-up changes based on how the community received it are never mentioned. The combat update wasn't even mentioned in the next VI or even the one after it. The next update is being pitched without even addressing the one that went out previously. In Conclusion Communicating with players is easy. The PvP Changes Feedback Thread was the last time I've seen good communication on display for Wurm Online. Treat them like human beings, don't be afraid to tackle difficult topics, lay out your reasoning in plain English, and just be honest when things aren't going as planned. You'll find that they treat you like a human being as well and will give a lot more slack when things aren't meeting their expectations. You improve communication, you improve community sentiment.

Some changes to shield bashing to make it more bearable to grind without abusing alts in pvp lands - Make it so that a mob being stunned does not interrupt your shield bash. If anything it being stunned already should make it easier to shield bash - Reduce/remove the cooldown, but make it so you can only stun once per 30 seconds, any shield bashes in that time will just be shrugged off but still give skillgain - Reduce the difficulty for passive/weaker mobs. At 1 skill it's extremely hard to actually hit shield bashes unless you starve a mob down to near-death. You could also make it so failed shield bashes have a chance to give skillgain until 20ish skill too. - Make shield bashing use coc from the shield - Remove the sudden drop in skillgain (around 1/10 what you'd get beforehand) at 50 skill.

I put out construction markers delineating a proposed connection between the highways at K9 and M9. The existing single lane roads between those points are patchy and they zig zag due to having been laid out before the introduction of diagonal paving. The proposed replacement is an actual highway consisting of two long north/south segments connected by a short diagonal. The nearest properties are: Fort Ticonderoga (Mayor Quelon) Crazy Eights (Supreme Overlord Ausimus) Ariandel (Mayor Wallstreet) Please contact me with any concerns about this project.

A few notes: 1) We will be using International Standard ISO 3103 to prepare the tea. 2) An unknown thing about this Standard is that it is recommended to arrive at least an hour early, to account for travel issues. I'm not known to wait. 3) The tea is not boneless. One of you may end up with a bone in your tea. This is expected. 4) Despite being "greenish white" the resulting Salve of Frost from the blood will not also apply acid damage. 5) The tea is being prepared at the usual spot: X17 Y31 6) Formal attire is desired, but not required. 7) Serving is at this time

It should be mentioned that Rolf closed down those two servers because he completely messed them up, and that's putting it lightly. He introduced PvP raiding to all PvE servers and only reverted course a few months later. By then the damage was done, thus it was decided to reset things on the PvE side. So those were very special circumstances. When was that? Back when I started in 2007 creatures roamed, trolls even went out of their way to bash through your walls in order to kill you. These days any shed you make is generally safe, not so back then. I had to build Guard Towers around my place in order to stay safe, as Iwasn't using a deed (those were very expensive back then) and the tower guards actively killed stuff within their radius, thus creating safe areas. Though I certainly don't disagree that areas around the starting towns should probably be safer than average. But creatures which require a small group roaming like that sounds like a bad idea as a lot of people live very far away from the starting area (read, on the coasts). The more logical place for such creatures would be deeper in land, but that's usually where the starter towns are currently located, so that poses a bit of an issue. I do agree that the game could use more small group content, but roaming creatures like that on existing servers would probably be a problem. Other games generally use instanced areas for this, even Valheim recently showed how that can work quite well. In Wurm perhaps cracks could spawn in caves and on the rock layer, which you could then travel though to get to said instances. Clearing one and leaving it could cause the crack to collapse (vanish), so it could then respawn elsewhere. Perhaps portals/rifts could be player made, which you could then use to invade other realms (like jackal). So the opposite of current Rift events where our world is invaded. You could for example allow players to build such portals and then require priests to charge them with a ton of favor in order to (re)activate them. While stuff like this is usually found in more theme park mmos, it really fits sandbox mmos greatly as well when done right. Tell me, is ship travel any fun, is it interesting in any way? Or is it just, point the thing and afk for a long time? After recently playing Valheim I can say that that game makes ship travel a lot more interesting, the atmosphere is great, the storms are incredible and the deeper areas are dangerous, especially at night. Mail isn't just great because it's convenient, it's also great because the alternative, ship travel, is a really boring waste of time.

son of nogumps will steal horse shoes/saddles/bridle/barding from them as they count as armor and throw them at the horse. the item will then go into the horses inventory and require you to kill the horse to get the item out. they also often fail to throw the item back, forcing you to kill a tanky mob with a missing armor piece.

Explorer's Guild Cadence Map [Beta] http://wurm.crazykrewe.net If you want to hide the location of your deed, let me know. This is an "interactive" map. After you register, you can add new deeds (more to come) you find on your travels. After someone adds a new marker, it is hidden under the "Show voting" button, where registered users can vote whether the information is correct. This way, the map should be more dynamic and up to date with current events on the server. Let's get exploring! Planned features: - Voting to remove deeds. - Highways and tunnels. - Towers - Different servers in case there is a demand. Bit of backstory: When looking at the community map, I got annoyed at how outdated and empty it is. Having one person updating all the maps is not optimal. Also with the rule that you can only add your own deeds, and towers, it can never be too great. Some people do not know the map exists, and therefor can't add their deed even if they wanted, some don't care and some don't want to bother with registering and posting. That is why I think this way, where a bunch of explorer's can keep the map updated, is much better. Also it is going to be opt-out instead of opt-in, making it more accurate.

... Which is why I've once again taken it upon myself to host another public dragon slaying! \o/ This time, it's a blue dragon! (First time dragon scale is being publicly available for all the little Joe's! It's been pointed out to me that this is false. Sorry!) The beast has been penned and deeded. When is it? The event will take place on Saturday 9pm GMT+2 Where is it? Cadence: The slaying is happening at the red spot. If you come from other servers then you can get fairly close with both a knarr and a bigger boat. Our deed is close to the slaying spot and can be found on the highway. Feel free to swing by our deed (Tranoas, can be found on the highway) if you need to travel early and need some place to stay until the event. We got a few publicly available beds for the sleep bonus! Why should I come? For the fun and to lag the server, of course! .. On a more practical note, you will get rewarded with some dragon scale as well as blue dragon blood, which is used for potion of butchery! What do I need to know and to bring? Bring: a tent if you feel unsafe. Know: Don't ride a cart or a wagon during the battle, especially while using hell horses as draft animals. Bring: A party mood and all your friends! Donations Some people feel obligated to donate some of the spoils they get to whoever organized the event. Please, do not feel obligated to do so. Feel free to swing by, grab the loot and use it or sell it! 😊 Only donate if you appreciate the public event as well as feel financially capable and don't mind parting ways with whatever you're donating! At this point, it should be obvious enough that I'll keep making public dragon slaying events of whatever dragons I find, so don't you worry about that! But if someone wants to donate a genesis cast on one of our hell ponies, that'd be fantastic!

The Highway ranger is a cross between a Wagoneer and a guardsman. They can be purchased at a trader or with marks and deployed in much the same way as you would a trader or Wagoneer. The highway ranger will protect its owner/deed/alliance (If Permissions are shared) while traveling along a cats eyed Highway.

A large Undisclosed Moon-Metal Vault that prevents decay. It is cemented with concrete into the cave wall and planted firmly in place. Magical Vaults can only be deployed inside a cave that has been prepped for the vault. 5 tiles need to have support beams one in the center and one to each side. Place the vault and then use concrete to permanently secure the vault. A vault would contain 4x more then a large magical chest. And would have shelves like an LSU. Can be bought at a trader for 80s or with 80,000 loyalty points. Thanks for the suggestions and tips guys I made a few edits based on the feedback. 7/4/2021 22:00utc0

An additional (RL) benefit of using beeswax as a finishing step in forging/smithing metal items is corrosion resistance (hot-waxed iron items are less likely to rust), so in-game, applying beeswax to glowing metal items could be an optional step for reducing decay (x)% on a hot-waxed item..

Marking a point on the map as occupied, without connecting it to player names or anything else is no different than marking a road or a lake and it's beneficial for the rest of the community. When looking for a place to start a deed, the obvious first step most people would take is to consult the public maps to find (ideally) the most accurate and up to date info about where would be a good place to look. An empty spot on the map looks like a good place to start. Spend some hours to travel there, only to find that there was a deed there after all. Now you've wasted your time and the map hasn't served its purpose. Some people choose not to submit their info, but plenty of people just can't be bothered. If maps are opt-in only, they will always be incomplete and outdated, and that makes them effectively useless, especially for new players trying to figure out where they can settle. If a few people want to insist on keeping their locations off the maps, then they should be required to opt-out. It's ridiculous to expect the rest of the community to take up the extra effort and deal with incomplete maps just to accommodate a few selfish individuals.

7 out of 7 horses left with killer trait "extremely sick" dead by the time young adult. "very slim chance to pass away" seems to equal an absolute certainty over a relatively short period of time. You get this trait, and a Fo priest is your only choice it seems. Again seems to also be a balance issue, with Lib not having access to a way to cure this trait. I find this trait excessive on a non-inbred foal, the only place where I deem it might be considered a just penalty at all. So much not to like about this update, and this rates as one of the worse decisions in my book.

This needs to be limited to only deeds that are your own or are highway connected. If it's not highway connected, you either ask the owners if that's ok or you just don't add it. There's a lot of people who wish their privacy to be respected, and you can not justify it by saying they can opt out, if they never agreed to use the service in the first place. If it's an issue of finding your way around, put landmarks instead, or an overlay of types of forests so people can navigate that way. Oh also I opt out of having The Lakeside, Lakeside Estates, For Peat's Sake, The Lakeside Farms added to this map as I do not agree with the methodology behind it.

Metallurgy actually makes a great sense to use it with. I think the need for a skill is fine depending on the bonus. If it is something minor used only for the most min/max people no skill would be fine as they are temporary buffs. Again this is more like eatting a meal for affinity bonus. But I think tying it to metallurgy would be awesome, though I'd want a higher potential bonus than I originally envisioned if we are tying it to a skill. Another use for bees wax! Sharpening kits could be useful too allowing another use for whetstones etc. Again, making consumables with short term buffs is something I feel is great for keeping an active market in wurm since the base items are basically eternal. Nice feedback both of you!

I could see oil being added to bee's wax to make polish for wooden items, and oil being used with a wetstone to 'sharpen' a weapon for a certain amount of time. As Finnn said, it could even have a better/longer effect based on oil ql and skill of the person who applies it. +1 to this idea, but also want wooden tankards. JS

People say wagon/ cart speed slightly fixed. Breeding is still random and broken. Think of it this way: A 90 skill weaponsmith uses high ql silver and supreme tools to try and create a huge axe. He has to wait a week for the axe to be created in the forge. After a week he opens the forge and finds a low ql tin axe (even when he used high ql silver to create it) with some cracks in the weapon. These cracks can only be repaired if the weaponsmith pays a priest to cast the weapon. The axe can't be imped other than fixing the cracks even though the smith has 90 skill and high ql tools and mats. Instead, the smith must try again and again. If he is lucky, the resulting axe can be the same colour as the tools he used to create the axe, that is if his creation tools even had a nice colour. Added to this, the amount of weapons on a deed now has a cap and if the smith exceeds this amount, his creations will get random negative casts like "this weapon will splinter in your hands" or "this weapon will poof randomly even if it has no damage". Also, casts on weapons are totally predetermined by RNG and can only ever be either speed or more damage, never both. Forget all rounder weapons forever. Would the smiths and their clients like this update?

I know, I have asked for a summon in the past. But in this case I didn't know about the slaying only when I hopped onto Gaffer's stream. I live only a 5min boat ride from Stan's deed, so with 10 min to go I figured I could make it. Just very bad luck on the winds lol. No hard feelings, there's always a next time with Stan's wonderful events

At one time there was a plan to add more maps. Does not need to be Melody, Cadence or Harmony, they have never used Wurm Online maps and are unlikely to now, among other things it could be used to pinpoint precise ore locations for WO players. But making a brand new generic map or two? That is super easy and might take an hour of time, if that. Devs told me several years ago they were planning to add more map options. Keenan might even have some already made. New maps are actually very very easy to generate. Of course they have said many things over the years. At this point however they do not have time or intention to even fix bugs in WU, even ones they have already fixed on their end, there is no way they would add maps especially since there are scores and scores of free player-made maps available in the modding section. I would not even expect 5 minutes of attention from Wurm devs at this point. Even for something really easy, even just to add the bug fixes they said years ago were already coded and ready to go. Sorry but I have been here for ten years, and on WU since release, about 9000 hours in WU and the same in WO, and there is no point in getting any hopes up, there will be nothing. They are absolutely DONE with Wurm Unlimited. They have said so. And frankly, I agree with the person who said it might be safer for them not to touch anything more at this point, the chances are greater things would somehow get worse rather then better and that they would never look back if they critically broke the game in an update, we might literally none of us ever play WU again, unless a modder made a fix. Many of the really good modders we did have have now left due to the half decade of broken promises since release. It would be nice if we could get the donkey and other meshes for WU modders to add in themselves, or the new maps they maybe even already finished, but I don't think there will ever be any scraps of any kind. No donkeys, no new maps. You can get dozens of new horse skins, rocketfast rainbow colored zebras or ocelets or pandas or other "retextured" animals not requiring new meshes however, and there are as I said, literally scores of some very nice player made maps. You can even make your own, if you are willing to spend an afternoon learning the details. But there are plenty of ready-to-play ones as well. Also, there are a number of excellent public servers, such as Sklo's Sklotopolis and Bdew's Otherlands, that continue to offer innovative new content even today. There are others as well, those two I have the most personal experience as far as custom content beyond what you can add yourself through the modding section.

Love the concept and would definitely love to see a live map of literally everything in the game, but it does seem people want to be asked first rather than be responsible to ask you. So I'm not sure how something like this could be accomplished. The weird thing to me though is that there are plenty of people who report other deeds, roads, etc. on the other community maps already. Look forward to see how this project turns out as it at least feels like a better map system than the current. My vote is still to make a Cartography skill and allow us to make live maps ingame. All 3rd party resources should find their way into the game somehow at some point. Edit: Potentially it would be okay to put deeds on the map if they are connected to the main highway since that's already kind of opting in to publicity.

Actually, the rowboat is the "swimming (and self propelled) small cart", but the sailboat is the same. Maybe one should or should not make the sailboat "swimming large cart", but at minimum something in between, minimally being able to carry an lcrate/2 scrates and a raft, or even full load like a large cart. And btw., even without, a boat on large ships would make sense, e.g. when delivering a ship to a buyer and wanting to sail back. Or when entering an area with shallow canals for exploration.

I intentionally phrased it as "tends" and not as "they always do so". Thing is, all it takes is for a quarter of the wurm pop of even 10% to act this way to get this shitty system. It's similar to when WoW classic came out, on some servers I saw how bots were so flagrantly harvesting mineral nodes / herbs / farming certain mobs, that your average player barely had any chance to level up his skills. (also blizzard really dropped the ball at policing bots, some were only banned for 1 week even after video proof, then unbanned and back to their script...lovely company what can I say) Were the bots a very small % of that wow server? Yes. But you have to keep in mind it doesn't take many rotten apples to spoil an entire barrel. I am happy you had good wurm experiences, I truly am, I've had many as well, but I've also seen acts of such selfishness that it left me mind boggled on how people would go to such great lengths just for some in game pixels at the end of the day. My point is not to provide a negative perspective on human morality or exhort how people tend to be more selfish instead of selfless, but you have to keep in mind one thing and that is even with RMT gone, silvers still do have a $ equivalent and I'm pretty sure somewhere, people still do such dealings under the radar. And even if that weren't the case, if no one would engage in such low profile dealings the fact is having a lot of silvers in your bank is still equal to $ since you can pay for a lot of deed upkeep (costs $), you can buy prem (obviously costs $) and other things. A confounded variable might be the fact people aren't even aware how they associate such things with RL money (see my last phrase) My general point is that as long as there's a real life monetary incentive, there will always be a certain class of people trying to game the system as much as possible. Whether by monopoly or by having as much of the dragon market share as possible, the current wurm rule system fosters such behavior and has fostered it for a long time. We might not have wow bots but we do have a psychological - money incentive to not share things with others or play nice. On a side note, there's a nice presentation from a behavioral economist / psychologist on how our behavior changes when we associate things with RL money or not. It's quite enlightening to see how many more people cheat / steal when there's a weaker connection between the stolen item and money (like stealing a can of coke) or when the social norms encourage it in a certain system. Just throwing it out there. I think any MMO should consider behavioral economics when designing mechanics, especially these days when there are so many "pay for advantages" mechanics.

No, I can still remove deeds that owners don't want on the map. But it should work more like real life maps, if a google street view car drives by your house, it will be on the map because they "discovered" it. And if the house owner doesn't like it, they can get it removed. You don't ask every village if it wants to be on the map, you just hide the area 51s and such. Edit: Not being on a map actually brings more players there, that are looking for an empty spot. Maybe that's the opposite of what people, that don't want their deeds on maps, want.

Content wise, I stopped seeing any new significant content after the journal goals were released. I think that was the only system that was 95% correctly implemented (except those effing rifts). I felt I wanted to reprem when they were introduced since it actually gave me some new goals past "stay at the forge and imp X item 50 000 times". Grind in a nutshell. The rest didnt have any impact on me as player. I don't enjoy playing a priest or having a priest alt, runes/imbues aren't worth it that much to me and the combat update didn't make me feel any better as a player or more skilled. It doesn't feel more fluid or "simple". I just want some statistics to know what does what damage in numbers, etc, like how most systems are designed. But when i finished all goals except do 100 rifts I burned out tbh. I did about 20 more rifts till i got to 70% done and felt wasted. Will probably reprem in a year if any new content actually gets released that makes me want to play the game. I feel I've already explored the vast majority of what wurm has to offer. At this point even logging in to do chores like feed horses or repair some lamps is still too much for me. Will await for something new to make me play, till then I'll be browsing the forums to see if anything worthwhile pops up.
