    The Beginners' Heavy Horse Guide Firstly a note to say, I'm not an expert on breeding horses under the new system, with two toons at around 50AH when the update came out, I felt like a beginner too, but I read the patch notes carefully and came up with a plan to breed draft horses, and (so far) it seems to be working. I thought I would write a brief guide, not an expert guide, but a guide to follow my successes, avoid my mistakes and share my happy accidents breeding Heavy (draft/draught) Horses since the update. For this guide I am assuming you are at 50AH or just below, and not a high level breeder (you probably stopped grinding AH like many did on reaching 50) - if you are then I expect you will have your own better methods. During this guide I refer to 'old' 5-speeds, 4-speeds and 3-speeds etc - this has nothing to do with their age(!), but refers to the way they were described before the update. This guide assumes you are familiar with the minimum breeding age of horses (late adolescent). Step 1: Start Collecting horses: What horses can you get? What's your situation? (Ignore the bred in captivity trait!) A I have the old clean 5-speeds (3 speed 2 draft traits only) You are in a blessed yet awkward position because your horses have more speed traits than draft traits, so if you breed two 5-speeds the usual result will be another speed horse. To crack this, you need to breed your 5-speed with something else. See B. B My neighbours have a free horse pen with the old 1-4 speeds Do you live near a kind neighbour who has a free horse pen, giving away (or selling) their old 3 and 4 speeds? You've possibly struck gold. Ignore the old 4 speeds (at first), and any horses with any other traits than the old 5-speed traits - go straight to the old 2 and 3 speeds. Pick out some nice clean old 3 speeds with strong body and carry more and one speed trait (doesn't matter which) if there are any old 2 speeds with just strong body and carry more, grab those too! Note these horses will not have the draft horse shaped body (they only get that with 3 draft traits) so you you will need to right click Inspect them to check their traits. C I have access to wild horses Collect as many as you can reasonably collect, unless you have access to males described in B, in which case you could get away with just collecting females. Step 2: Pairing up and breeding Don't worry about sorting your horses into happy couples. If you only have access to one or two appropriate males - use them for most of your mares. You can breed them several times per day. If you have access to a FO priest, do get your horses cleaned up and healthy and remove negative traits first, it will make some difference to the success of the outcome. Pay attention to the inbreeding warning, and avoid inbreeding wherever possible. A I have 5 speed mares? Breed all your mares with (in this order of priority): 1 - old (clean) 2 speeds with 2 draft traits 2 - old (clean) 3 speeds with 2 draft and 1 speed trait 3 - old (clean) 4 speeds with 2 draft traits - strong body and carry more 4 - old (clean) 1 speeds with 1 draft trait 5 - wild - 0 trait horses 50% of the time (on average, allowing for RNG) the foal will take after the father (or non-5 speed if the other way round). In this case, for options 1 and 2 this should result in a draft dominant foal more often than not. For option 3 - there's about half the chance of 1 or 2 that you will get a draft dominant foal. For option 4, I have not tried this but it seems to me to be slightly more likely to produce a draft than breeding with a wild horse, it might even be more successful than breeding with a 4 speed - let us know! For 5, the parent is wild, so it's really pot luck. For the 50% of the foals that take after the mother (or 5-speed parent) - I'm sorry, they may most likely be speed based foals. B I have some 2 draft trait horses from the freebie pen? Awesome (the ideal scenario). Each of these horses will have strong body and carry more traits and so they are draft dominant - look at the 1 speed trait they have (if any) because you need to keep a note of this. Pair up your mares and stallions so that the 1 speed trait (if any) is different for each of them (if both have fleeter movement for example, this may increase the chance of fleeter movement being passed on, which we don't want - so find a different mare) A same pairing (Wrong!) Male: It has a strong body. It can carry more than average. It has very strong leg muscles. It has been bred in captivity. Female: It has a strong body. It can carry more than average. It has very strong leg muscles. It has been bred in captivity. A suitable pairing would be (Correct): Male: It has fleeter movement than normal. It has a strong body. It can carry more than average. It has been bred in captivity. Female: It has a strong body. It has lightning movement. It can carry more than average. It has been bred in captivity. You may only have access to old 4-speeds with 2 draft traits, or old 2-speeds with 1 draft trait (or worse!) - if so adjust your pairings according, ensuring that you don't double up on any unwanted traits - make sure any unwanted traits are not present on both the mother and father. C I have access to wild horses. Breed your wild mares with males in the same priority as shown in A. WARNING: Keep an eye on deed ratio (deed tiles per horse) during your mares' pregnancies - you can't afford to lose any, keep it above 15 (you can check this at the Deed Token > Info. Don't keep pregnant mares off deed. Step 3 - The next generation. New foals! so exciting! If you are lucky some of your foals may start to show 3 draft traits - these will usually be: It has a strong body. It can carry more than average. It is easy on its gear. It has been bred in captivity. Don't worry about the number of points as these will be capped at your AH level when you bred the foal. Some foals may have 1 or 2 draft traits - if you can afford to, just concentrate on the 3 trait horses for breeding next time. If you are really lucky, you may have a 4th or a rare 5th trait - keep hold of those foals until they are ready to breed. Some foals may have extra traits; miscellaneous, output or negative. After removing the negative traits, keep these foals safe until you have some good clean 3 draft trait foals, at that point you can put the ones with extra traits aside and concentrate on your new clean draft trait animals. This is the stage I am at - I'm just waiting for my 3 draft trait youngsters to grow big enough to breed! With luck, and increased skill I may get a 4th draft trait! Conclusion: I hope this guide helps. It is by no means definitive; advanced breeders will have far better methods, but I am hoping it will help others who have never ground their skill past 50, to breed themselves some lovely chunky draft horses Happy Wurming! - Muse

    What the title says! It would be good to have small carts pulled by one donkey or one sheep (or perhaps rams only?), and be lead by the player. The advantage would be less slowdown than pulling the cart onesself. Also it would be frigging adorable! Otherwise the small cart would remain unchanged, same weight, same capacity.

    After chilling in his Twitch chat, I can pretty confidently say that I'm fairly sure this is one of the better deeds to be part of not just on the server, but the cluster. I see him constantly chatting with both alliance, village and his Twitch chat. I fail to see why anyone would take issue with streaming. If you see this thread and miss the "I STREAM HERE LINK" in bold and bright text, then I really don't think there's enough indication in the world for you. Anyway, would recommend. Me and Zuelatek don't always see eye to eye on our opinions and visions for the game, but it's admirable to see someone so invested in trying to see new changes for the game. It gets the worthless Madnath seal of approval.

    We cannot believe that, but it happened, and Giant Forest Floppa is back, back again. Hidden underground, he is ready for a new battle. When? Saturday, June 19, 2 PM ET Where? Harmony, 10-15 minutes walking from Heartland. (A totally different place from the last two times). Information about the exact location will be posted here one day prior to the slaying. You will get Forest giant blood (Potion of woodcutting) The title "Giantslayer" Rules Do not enter the slaying pen with wagons and hell horses. I don't speak for this community, its members probably hate the idea, beautiful savages. I don't mean to belittle the game in anyway, I just really want more tools for content creators because they're the ones who expose the game to the rest of the world.

    spam right click - use for penduluming champs/traitors/pvp/hota camps/whatever is awful especially with no keybind for it lol, would be much more convenient if it was like a 1 minute timer per "use" and ql+woa+soul depth just effected how often it'd send out a pulse to find these things.

    I got a few positive responses on some of my suggestions in the latest VI-post, so here's one of them copy pasted with some possible modifications: Please allow people who are not mayor to rename branded animals via the permissions feature. Possibly as a deed permission. There are breeders who name their branded animals like "FM, CM" which can be very helpful. The fact that only a mayor can do so can be very frustrating for a villager who is doing the AH stuff and things on the deed. You shouldn't need to call your mayor over every time you want to rename newborn foals, in my opinion.

    As someone who recently started playing, I joined before this patch and this patch dropped as either the first or second update I experienced... Let's just say I've played quite a lot of games, this was absolutely the worse new game experience I have encountered. I don't knock the idea, but the presentation of this cart nerf ALONG with the AH changes was VERY jarring to say the least... As a new player who had just gotten his first cart, finally got some decent animals hitched to it and no longer going at a snails pace for everything I do... Just to have this patch literally remove over 10/km worth of speed overnight almost made me want to leave this game... Not to mention improving the cart has little to no really noticeable change... Its really one of the most thoughtLESS releases I've seen.. Just my 2 cents.

    If someone submitted that for an exam on a module I was teaching, I'd have serious concerns about their ability to continue with the course. Most likely, I'd raise them as "red, in danger of failing". Actually, you know what, I'm going to use that as an example of "how to fail this course" with my students.

    This would be a big update to tower guards that would make them more interesting, if not more realistic in line with more human behavior. Currently you can arm tower guards, but you have to painstakingly run down each guard and try to arm them before they run away! I suggest multiple updates. First of all, make Guard Towers something that can be opened by same kingdom players. You could then deposit medium shields, (JK) longswords, (MR) Axes, and (HOTS) Mauls. Tower guards would then fall back to the guard tower to grab desirable equipment, before returning to their normal duties. Second of all, allow tower guards pick up desirable weapons/shields off the ground or from fallen Tower Guards. Per Wurmpedia, Each kingdom's tower guards has skills in various weapons Jenn-Kellon guards have skill in longswords. Mol-Rehan guards have skill in axes. Horde of the Summoned guards have skill in mauls All kingdom guards have skill in medium shields.

    Nice guide, well done! A couple of comments: a) you need AH 65 to breed 4-draft horses (unless they have stealth buffed this in the patches without me noticing). b) You say that "50% of the time the foal will take after the father". Well it used to be that horses took mostly after the mother (mother's traits are weighted more), which people found proof of in the source code. I haven't heard anyone say that this has changed (?).

    A minimap sounds great. I'm all for features that provide players with more information as I do believe the lack of info is what causes most new players to quit. Something I would love to see this be implemented with or perhaps later is a Cartography skill. So player's can get the benefit of additional info through effort and skill. Player's would have to go around and investigate map grids to make map pieces that they can put together to improve the main map and their minimap with new info. One concern I do have though is how this would pair with compasses. Currently it's an awesome achievement to get a high QL high WoA compass and with a minimap showing where you are at all times I see no reason why you would ever need a compass. Or at least it would be needed in very few situations. On a side note: I just learned too that if you use a Dioptra on a planet it'll tell you roughly where you are on the map (Ex: northeast regions). Not nearly as useful as a minimap.

    When you get to serenity Harbor, follow the road East, You should see a bunch of colored statues in the middle of the road if you are on the correct one. That road will lead you straight into the Sandstone Hwy, There should be a sign there pointing to the left(i.e. Turn Left). The next picture shows you the Turn off to get to the Midnight Ball Deed. This the path you will turn off the sandstone Hwy ( I believe it is called western expressway). follow the gravel road and keep to your right when it Y's off up the road. There also should be a pointing sign showing you the correct path. Just stay to you right and you will be there soon 😛 Hope to see ya there!

    +1 As someone who has a directionally challenged friend in Wurm this would be a great help. As it is I am often spending a good deal of my time guiding them from one location to another. A compass is of no use to an individual who is severely dyslexic and for those that would argue to use the catseyes...there are no catseyes in the middle of the wood, on steep mountain tops or in the lakes and seas! For those who don't want it simply make it easy to toggle off. Problem solved.

    My alt has so far crashed 16 times today..this is become ridiculous and outright shameful. Not a single person ahs reached out to try to assist with this issue.

    There are lots of lovely churches around, with nice seating areas for people attending sermons. The problem is, when actually holding a sermon it's necessary to make sure nobody uses the seats or else they won't count as valid listeners. Why is that? If it's just some kind of oversight, maybe it can be changed?

    I didn't keep track of all the info, so I can't fill everything in, but I did find a cache with 20 fragments. My reports were in the 70s for ql, my arch was 89 when I found it, and being on Indy...I really don't remember how old the deed was. I was VERY surprised to get 20, but I know I didn't get anything super fantastic. Higher ql is always nice, just no really rare pieces that I noticed.

    You Press H for Wurmpedia window and have to click the input field again to start typing. I don't think anyone or at least not many people use the Wurmpedia page to browse around. Most of us want to search for something quickly. Have the input field active already when a player presses H / Wurmpedia window loads up so players can start typing their query right away.

    Yeah. I don't understand why this isn't tied to "Branding permission" already. As I understand it, if you have permission to brand an animal, you can remove its brand, lead it to another village, get that village's mayor to brand it and rename it and unbrand it, and then you can lead it back to your own village and brand it once again. It would be far simpler to just rename the animal in one step.

    I mean... you could say the same thing about highways but we still got a highway system implemented. Did we need it? No. Has it helped a lot of people? Yes. Do veterans use it? Perhaps not so much on their home servers, but a lot of them link their deeds up to it to make it easier for others to find their way to them. We do need the dial to move more toward creativity and away from tradition, that much is for sure. If I were a new player and didn't know how to get from Zero to Hero, and didn't have some amazing friends in game, I wouldn't stick around. I think Wurm's biggest problem is the amount of money that goes into development. I genuinely believe a lot of the suggestions made, the devs would love to put into the game, but they're limited to a slow development method because of the budget.

    But on a more serious note; Maybe it's time to stop listening to the auld gits like you and me who are resistant to change and start listening to some of the players who joined recently (and i raise my hand here, i would oppose a lot of ideas for years which i now think would retain at least some of the players who gave Wurm a try) . Even the most loyal Wurmians burn out eventually, we have seen it happen and it is happening still. Without making the game more friendly to the new player, who in these days has a comparison of thousands of other games and Wurm no longer is one of the 4 or 5 MMOs available on the market, there will be no player retention. We see people quit for a number of reasons, we see obituaries on the forums, we see people quitting quietly too. A lot of those are the players who were here for over a decade. I used to think that some of the changes were bad for the game because they were dumbing it down or making it too easy. Now, seeing how things go, i changed my opinion. It doesn't matter that i don't like the new GUI, it doesn't matter if i think that having a live map in game makes it too easy. If i don't like it, i can quit and nobody will notice. What does matter is the new accounts created daily to stay and it's no longer the times when we had to spend hours messing with files, configs, redownloading stuff for Ultima Online to run. Majority of current audience is used to having things work correctly and efficiently. So the choice someone has to make is whether to cater for the 50 - 100 "old" players and hope we don't all die off at once or adjust to the market and the customer's needs. I know my opinion about the in-game map means absolutely nothing and this is just a suggestion but it's one of probably over a dozen topics suggesting this exact thing. In each of those topics there were people opposing the idea because "immersion", because "too easy", "can't you use landmarks to navigate, you silly goose?" and so on. But then there is the player who can't navigate using the landmarks. There might be more than one. Those players can't play a game which they likely researched before giving it a try and it scratches that itch exactly, except they die and can't find their way back home. They quit (if i had trouble navigating by landmarks, i would probably quit after my first death as well, there were barely any community maps, drawn in paint, because -learn how to navigate or go play diablo- attitude). There are many reasons why people who try out Wurm don't stick around and we will never know majority of those reasons but at least part of them just couldn't be bothered opening some website to look at a map and still not know where they are. This is just one of the suggestions i would bash into oblivion 5 or 10 years ago but now i see that it's one of the very common questions new players ask and react shocked when they hear "yeah, no mate, git gud. Use mountain tops to navigate and there is compass which settles day after tomorrow and there is a sundial compass on each village token". People want it, people are rarely vocal about their inability to navigate by landmarks, in fear of humiliation perhaps. Yes, there are thousands of other games which offer in-game maps and we could tell every player to go play WoW if they want a radar. Sadly, there aren't thousands of Wurm players whom we could say that to.

    I've come back to this thread at least a dozen times. Tich and I didn't always get along. I didn't like her coding style, and I thought she just didn't like me at all. We kept a professional working relationship, however. On some level we both knew our goals were aligned toward whatever was best for Wurm. Still, I find myself really not happy with things I said to her or about her over the years. I don't usually have regrets, but I do right now. I regret my stupid opinionated self and my assumptions. See, it wasn't until she shared her health situation with me that I realized none of the words we exchanged were personal. I've known for a few months - I think I said six, but I know it was shorter. I think that was the original time-frame, and I feel robbed that we didn't get longer. It's amazing what happens when you find out someone is not long for this world. All the little things disappear. I wish I had more time to talk and get to know her beyond Wurm. To know the person who brought so much to this game. That's what is making this hard for me. I don't usually have regrets as I said, but holy hell do I have so many right now. I didn't come back to active playing because of Halloween. I came back because I noticed she was gone from our chats and I had a feeling in my gut that she had left us. I hate that I was right, but at the same time I think I spent these last 5 days or so doing what she would've wanted. I dove back into this game and I wanted to experience all of the things she brought to us. I went back into cooking. I paid particular attention to every bridge out there. I even played with the thought of fishing, but I had to pass on that. I started looking back at what all of you have done with what she's given us. How silly of an idea to build in caves, but you all proved just how creative you could be. Whole cities, underground. No one is going to care about paving in mines. But how glorious you've made things look! And cooking, who cares? You all did, most of you. Sure there were bugs, but in the end it made Wurm better and more in depth. Farewell Tich. Sorry I was such a pain over the years, but thank you for keeping this game interesting and for putting so much of yourself into it. You truly inspire me to do whatever I can to see that it lives on... so that you, too, live on.

    I took a 3 month break, and when i came back only one tile had caved in in a big mine with probably 100 tiles mined. So its a small random chance.
