I got a few positive responses on some of my suggestions in the latest VI-post, so here's one of them copy pasted with some possible modifications: Please allow people who are not mayor to rename branded animals via the permissions feature. Possibly as a deed permission. There are breeders who name their branded animals like "FM, CM" which can be very helpful. The fact that only a mayor can do so can be very frustrating for a villager who is doing the AH stuff and things on the deed. You shouldn't need to call your mayor over every time you want to rename newborn foals, in my opinion.

Another idea: Allow bison to also spawn on grass instead of only steppe, so they would have just as much chance to spawn as other wild grazers like cows and sheep.
  4. 4 points
Another option for the list: What about making it so animals on deed does not count towards the type ratio? So, if a friendly creature is killed, it would most likely respawn as a Bison, since there none available in the wild.

I got a few positive responses on some of my suggestions in the latest VI-post, so here's one of them copy pasted with some possible modifications: The upside of having a rare color give extra performance is fun in certain aspects but it comes at the cost of min-maxers feeling like they can't aesthetically customize by using their favorite color/skin. With the new proposed AH changes, we will get something that would fill the same niche/role/feeling that breeding a specific rare color currently fills; Breeding a specific rare trait. This is a perfect opportunity to get rid of the bonus to ebony/molten and allow min-maxers to not have to choose between using ebony/moltens to min-max or feeling bad about using their favorite colors. I love the nightshade skin of hell horses but I currently use moltens on my hell cart because, while the 2.5% speed isn't that big of a number, it still makes a difference on something that can reach the kind of speeds that my hell cart does.

k looks like h i, j and l could also do with a touch up, but none so much as h... I mean k.

+1 Or even add other benefits to the other colors to balance it. I hate how molten and ebony are the meta, so it makes other colors less valuable.

I never ever see Wurm or Wurm Unlimited when I am browsing through my main category, Open World Survival Craft, which seems to fit Wurm to a T? Might be a good time to give WO/WU a little push.

If anyone has any they would like to add to the map, or update the location of an existing marker please send me a PM here on the forum or in game (same username), or post in this thread and include any information you think may be helpful for people locating it! Also accepting structures which are currently on deed, in the event that the deed disbands and they become available for missions. Region borders are approximate and as accurate as I could get them, I will update if I feel necessary. Map link: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/jwfz9g46dc1csni/Release Epic Map.png?dl=0

Festival of the Veil (Samhain/Halloween festival and Impalong) October 24-30th 2021 (ended) Greetings Fellow NFI Guys and Ghouls, Its your friendly Cathedral Crypt Keeper here, I'm just dieing with excitement to invite you to one of the first Norther Freedom Isle Impalong. The Zombies and I will be hard at work getting everything ready including this post, keep an eye on this page for updates. What's an Impalong? It's a community event/festival that's hosted by someone on their deed, often times they have themes to match the season, holiday, or hold some special meaning to the host. The word impalong was created long before i became a wurmian, but it refers to the action of gathering and improving items for your fellow Wurmian, it is an event where crafters and priests from across Wurm join together to improve/enchant other players gear for free. Everyone is welcome to work on their skills at the event. In addition to the imping/enchanting, there are various other things such as games and events, prize giveaways, contests, and sometimes even GM's drop in to spawn a few mobs on unsuspecting Festival-goers. Location (where to find us) The cathedral is on the western shore of the heart shaped bay on cadence at map coordinates G23 just north of Broken Heart Bay Event Schedule (all times are U.S. central time zone) Oct 24th 12am gates open to public Oct 25th - 1v1 Tournament Begins Oct 26th - Fishing Contest Oct 27th - Scavenger Hunt Oct 28th - Rose Garden Maze opens Oct 29th Costume contest Oct 30th Bonfire and Closing ceremony The Discord Channel We use this for everything Closed till next year The Deed The Community Workshop (the impalong facility) The Pilgrim's Rest Inn Events The Rules Materials Provided (Donations are welcome and greatly appreciated) Event Staff (PM one of the people listed below when they are online or in local for refueling forges, returning your items, getting you more imping material, and check in at the inn.) more info to come soon

If you've got a vein surrounded by reinforced walls, when you mine it out it leaves a nice hole in the wall that you can't collapse due to the walls being ya know, reinforced. Being able to reinforce the vein, and then when it's mined out completely, becomes a cave wall/reinforced call wall would be nice.

Current Problem Rift Participation Points should be awarded based on effort put in. Currently the system doesn't care about your skill or however much effort you put into fighting. The BEST way for someone to gain participation points is to go around spam targeting mobs in melee range in order to get a "tag". Then when the mob dies with your tag on it you get points. Imagine being an elite fighter around 90 fighting skill killing mob by mob and getting less points than someone who just started the game and isn't actually helping take on the rift. It's even worse for those that thought defensive fighting would be useful. Proposed Point System Points would instead be based upon the combination of Damage Dealt, Damage Healed, and Damage Mitigated. This benefits all forms of fighters and encourages more participation towards actually closing the rift and becoming a better fighter. All fighters who put work in will walk out with more reward and feel more achieved. Also, with damage mitigated providing points it would encourage tanks use their skills like taunting which would now have a major benefit. Additional thoughts These are some other things that might benefit from having points, but are not the main focus of this thread. Sacrificing hearts (I've heard it's currently 1), Butchering, and Burying. These would encourage ending waves quicker, and cleaning up the field. Potentially something good for those not too skilled in fighting. For those that wish to help this post grow and get more discussion PLEASE spread it to others. If you want change to happen in this game we need to band together and create a louder voice. Also, PLEASE provide reasoning as to why you support or oppose this idea.

Firstly, thanks to everyone who took part! - The data is freely available here (https://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/184223-priest-poll-alts-and-mains-take-part-in-the-great-priest-census/#comments) Before we delve into things, we offer a "critique"; this sample would be hard pressed to call truly "random". It is definitely skiewed towards forum players, who may have more investment in the game, and as such the number of "alts" a regular player has is likely to be somewhat lower. There is also the consideration to be made that many of the forum users appear to favour the SFI (further arguing that there is skew in the sample) and, as such, we will not be offering observations on NFI (the rules there may be VERY different). The definition for "main" and "alt" was left subjectively to the user, and as such, we also leave these vague. In general, we are assuming users identified their "main" character as the one they are primarily active upon, and consider to be most advanced. We'll begin with a simple statistic which, for the SFI at least, will be hard to argue against. If we take the total premium respondants for the SFI (95), we note that only 12 identify a priest as their main, the remainder consider a crafter as a main. In essence less than 12.64% of the population play a priest main. Trying to identify WHY this is the case is beyond the scope of this study, but it certainly infers a future study (done by those with access to more varied data than the author) should be undertaken. Clearly, there is content within the game that does not hold up on its own for some reason! The next statistic is somewhat debatable, but it is worth mentioning because of its implication to population. As many of you know, the data I present each month is based purely on player count and offers no correction for alts. Given that our sample is large, the central limit theorem tells us that the means of such samples from the population would be normally distributed IF THE SAMPLES WERE RANDOM. In this instance, it is debatable if this is the case, as mentioned above, so the reader is advised to take the following with a stern pinch of salt. A 95% confidence interval for the number of toons played by any player (on both clusters) amounts to the following interval (2.845499155,3.435750845). Now, this heavily suggests that a lot of players play more than 1 toon, and even at its most charitable (taking the lowest bound) assuming 2.8 toons per player would not be unreasonable. If we assumed that every time a player was logged in, all their alts were logged in, we'd be overstepping our bounds. However, assuming that roughly half their alts are logged in on average would not be too much of a stretch, and thus dividing observed populations by 1.4 might be a reasonable decision to correct for alts. Further data is needed, but is beyond the reach of this study. Finally, we offer the last (also to be taken with a pinch of salt) statistic. Namely that we can be 95% certain that (on SFI) the average number of priest alts a player has lies somewhere between 1.21 and 1.78. This forces us to ask the question, would making priests more viable as mains be in the interests of wurm online at all? If we assume that, should priests became viable mains, some players would drop their priest alt, this could be substantial loss of income for Wurm Online. Thus, is it really a good idea to de-alt priests? Again, this really begs more questions than it answers, but it certainly suggests a viable hypothesis as to why priests have generally been ignored/nerfed by the developers over the years.

So on Xanadu its pretty darn hard at times to find somebody to convert you to a priest. I am sure other servers on SFI have the same issue as well. Then what did my eyes behold but NFI has a NPC in starter towns that can convert at any time. No more begging for summons or meeting up and all that jazz just head to the starter town and pow done. This is not a request for an added feature. This is a WTF over why aint it on SFI already. Screw chaos white light crap nobody has time for it. When you do that very nice AH update how about ya just slip in that NPC on all SFI starter areas. Stop the old school madness and update us as well...hmm what ya think devs?
  17. 1 point
I would not like that very much, as you might be able to guess, given that I just proposed something different. The difference between rewards being more evenly distributed and rewards being entirely evenly distributed is a subtle one, but... eh, it's not that subtle.
  18. 1 point
I have never done this tagging nonsense, fought fair and square and usually ended up at the very top behind the priests (and Volladol :-p). I don't quite see the issue.

Sorry to say, but your assumptions are wrong. While the number of respondents is not bad, and, for simplicity, we may assume that all participants responded honestly and benevolently, and understood all questions. But certainly, there is ambiguousness in the questionnaire, such as was "currently active" in section 1 and 2 means, and what "currently play .. in total" in section 3 which does not make mention of premium. Also, priests with priest alts are left out. That is not irrelevant. Two respondents in section 3 filled in 0 "toons" to be "currently played". There may be respondents who interpreted "currently premium" differently according to the time frame. I exclude the possibility of pranksters though we cannot be sure. There are a large number of not currently playing forum accounts and readers, so there is no 1:1 representation of forum users and players. Moreover, there will be other biases making the assumption of representativity even more questionable. It is a known phenomenon in MMOs, especially english only MMOs, that a considerable number of players, very active players among them, does not or rarely participate in forums, in particular when not native english speakers and not fluent in that language. They are then unlikely to participate in discussions, rather may read some guides and hints if at all. This means that forum participation has a strong bias towards english language proficiency. This is not the only bias. There are players, not few of them, who may see the game just as something to use, not something to campaign for changes. Though there are always a couple of newer players who engage as "activists", it is very likely that old players are doing that much more, especially as they are more aware of game mechanics and points to be possibly subject of change. Therefore there is a further bias towards longer participation. I even think, and know from own experience as well as conversations, that especially beginners may be skeptical towards ground breaking changes. They rather prefer to experience, learn, train, and enjoy versus "improving" the game by toppling established uses and mechanics. They will certainly not be vociferous in forums where they would expose their lack of experience. It is hard to say how these players, and the totality of over 5k accounts logging in on by gliding 7day average compare to bit over hundred forum users. To me, it seems highly unlikely that the respondents already are normally distributed over the forum users much less over the larger set. As to your remarks which sound like accusations over "convenience": Wurm is a sandbox game. Everyone is in her full rights to play "conveniently". Moreover, alts are not a sin or a crime. They are also a way to do a bit of roleplay in a not very roleplay oriented environment. For example, playing a character of a certain alignment to a deity as such, a follower, a priest or whatever. Hopping through crafts, then all creeds to experience several sides of the game may be destructive to a credible and pleasant ingame biography. Of course, one could do so, even enjoy it. But not because someone else wants to prescribe that alts are evil.

DeliveryContracts update Download Boats can now be added to contracts. They also have an extra delivery location, a planted buoy. Boats cannot be packed if they are moored. Can't remember exactly why I set to not allow them, think it was to do with being delivered on land. But I guess ship transporters solve that, so I don't really know what I was thinking. Anyway, it's sorted now.

Some nice work you have done here! Depends how they would "de-alt" them. I am thinking 3 options: Enable them to improve, Remove restrictions on Mining/Paving/etc, or do both. I would convert main to priest just for the extra bonuses if they did both, but I would not be ok having my main restricted in either of the two ways. And yeah, I do think it would reduce the salary for the people creating this wonderful world for us. It could also reduce the market opportunities for those that sell priest services.
  23. 1 point
Absolutely. But while I appreciate the idea behind your proposal, it might still raise new complaints. One is about the rift beasts which are able to gang up, surround players, and take turns taunting, stealing your focus, often even interrupting your swing. Even for a powerful melee fighter, that can be a deadly threat (I love it ). But it also means that 5 or 6 creatures are attacking you, and only dying slowly one by one, possibly even killed by someone else. A "damage dealt" count would help here, but be deeply injust in other cases. E.g. when I am standing at the WM with my elemental immunity whacking with my axe and not having to care for his AoE, while others have to run and heal up, I could be (and have been) amassing half of the damage dealt to that creature sometimes, and he has lot of hp, and heals up soon. And soon there may be new "point optimizers" adapting to the new mechanics and tactics. And even more complaining about, even if it does not, or rarely, happen like the "tagging". That is why I am skeptical towards fixing the unbroken. "Tagging" may be exploited by a few, here and then, especially when there are many participants, and they are fighting in closed groups. Btw., to my knowledge, all actual point attribution, tagged or not, gets lost once a fighter leaves the rift area, for example going behind a fence outside it to heal up (not to mention that only a dying mob at most 4 tiles away will count). But here again, some are getting frantic about possible "injust points". I fully support that rifts should be fun, not a point competition in the first place. When I am for keeping the point system, then because it allows players to see themselves grow, from "minimal" up to "phenomenal".

That's true, I only noticed after your mention that Steam seems to letting all F2P participate: ""Once registered, we will send further instructions regarding discounts. Please note that a discount is required for participation in this sale unless your title is otherwise Free to Play."" So they shouldn't even need a 10-25% store sale, unless they think that might give an extra kick to people buying up one-year subs and 20s coin packs. So it is just PURE FREE ADVERTISING. WU would need a discount to get included too, but since they are no longer really supporting WU at all they shouldn't mind putting it on sale for this event. hopefully they would include it, too. The more Wurms the better the fishing.\

the bonus from ebony is often so little that it doesn't pass the threshold for the next speed (speed is calculated in multiples of 0.72km/h) so horses/carts often end up being exactly the same speed. It's not really that big of a bonus and people will often argue it doesn't do anything because of this lol, seems kind of pointless and a self-imposed restriction

Rifts should be first and foremost a community event, not an opportunity for those with the highest skills and best equipment to cash in. I would like to see rewards being more evenly distributed, not less. I don't think giving people more points for doing more damage is going to help at all. When a rift creature dies, award points to everyone who is engaged with that creature, and award points to the person that creature is attacking. I don't know enough about healing to comment on how that should be rewarded, but it should.

I ended up skipping most of it as the early grind was just so slow for something that only lasts 6 months. But if they work out the kinks and improve upon stuff like that then I'd love to try another round. It's a shame that they seem to have killed it off.
  35. 1 point
It's almost like, if they were to put some more effort into Jackal it could be a major, recurring reentry point for players! Hell, just give us challenge if it's too much work Also, what happened to that "esports" event that was supposed to be held? A repeating, fresh start could actually make a competition like that work.

problem with this is that large majority of things you can produce in Wurm is useless so people are in business for very limited amount of professions. Why plant and pick apples, grapes, lingoberries etc when it's used in only small amounts in very specific cases most often just for the sake of roleplaying... why breed and keep sheeps, cows etc when milk is useless for anything but grinding dairy food making which again is mostly uselles, why grinding baking when one huge pizza is all you need, why grinding cloth making when its not as usefull as blacksmithing... Time is the only true restriction, even if you have all skill at 90 + you most often don't have time to make all if all is usefull, having more players would help too. But at the end of line it's really fine line beetween enjoying game and making it nightmare because of economy...

Not all servers have priests on all the time and I get the whole player interaction and transaction but this aint a sale of player made items. It would prob affect things in a good way as then the person wanting to priest can get on with with leveling and using skills they gain to further their immersion. I know on xan trying to get to priest without summon is a royal pita for a lot of people

You know I played this 5 years ago, I'm a returning player, there are others who have returned as well. NFI should not have features that SFI doesn't. I don't care the reasoning, the mechanics we have on SFI should also be on NFI. No exceptions no excuses. Sailing to the PvP server should be a thing as well. PMK should also be a thing over on NFI, you got streamers who already have deeds with over 25 people on them who wish they could make a banner or such on NFI but can't because you held back such features from them. This is stuff that brought you income, make use of it. NFI may have the most population right now, but you're holding them back from experiencing the fullness that others have on SFI. I mean I just paid for another 5 Silver JUST to get a wagon that had the JK template on it. Want y our servers to keep running, want to be able to pay some of your devs, provide such features to NFI and bring NFI features to SFI Give NFI sailing to PvP and PMKs

This part is true, well it was. Magic healing has generally been downgraded (and rightly so); I used to cap 700 every rift (before Jackal I hit over 1000 on one rift), but now I'm lucky to hit over 250 when time allows me to travel (and that means burning a LOT of cloth/gems, and taking part in the slaying at the same time). Rifts could use some changes, but the ones suggested by the OP most certainly are not the ones I'd like to see - do we really want to have people fighting over kill stealing, or heal sniping? That's what the OP's current suggestion would bring about, and the majority (remember, the forum community is a MINORITY) of players are going to be shut out of content they might otherwise enjoy. Let me make this very clear, the proposed changes would benefit me, but I can also see the problems they'd bring about and that benefit isn't worth the harm. You want my input on how to improve rifts? I'm too busy trying to figure out how they can fix priests
  42. 1 point
So I'm a liar now...nice way to just dismiss experiences that others have just because you have not had the same experience. I am NOT a priest, On Cadence and Harmony early on it was very easy for us to get 500+ points with the priests you talk about getting upwards of 700+. In many of your posts you continue to try and use your experiences on SFI and apply that to the entire population of the game of both SFI and NFI with out having any actual experience on NFI. I go to 1-2 rifts a week and have been doing so for months now on NFI. Anytime there is 50+ players it is easy for some of us to still get 400+ points. Yes it is tagging, and yes it is over rated and needs to be fixed and yes it is cheesing the system...but I am not lying and I would suggest you get some actual experience on the new servers before you throw around your experience and tossing out others. By the way, I'm not the only one who is getting these numbers, there have been many rifts where the top 15 were all 450+ points, both priests and non priests. After reading your post again, it appears even more clear to me that you don't know what your talking about when it comes to tagging. You saying that those that do so "will almost certainly be a dead player soon" is just...I don't even know how to address this statement. I have died one time at a rift, that was at the first Cadence rift and lag was over 40 seconds, and I got greedy trying to burn hearts to close the 4th wave. So it seems your experiences of 130 rifts vastly differs from experiences I have had doing 1-2 rifts a week since they started on NFI...and yet I'm not calling you a liar. Your statement of "boring and dangerous" is just your opinion and does not factor into anyone other experiences except your own. I find rifts to be very boring yes, but dangerous, not in the least bit.
  43. 1 point
Embarrassing derailing attempt. That was never Etherdrifter's point. Rather he wanted to point out that a rift is more than higher FS players whacking mobs and "deserving" reward for. As a matter of fact, there will never be a "just" system. When reading through all threads concerning rifts I find a lot of critique which is mutually contradictory, not seldom exclusive. Highest level veterans are ranting about the 100 rifts "duty" and want to shun rifts altogether. Players from lower participation timezones complain about too few rifts inside their timezone. Some complain about priests being "overly" rewarded. Under my impression, those players getting least rift points are complaining least, and having most fun. That shows that rifts are not so bad altogether. Still I find quite a number of points open for critique and improvement. But most proposals of "better" systems are outright terrible.
  44. 1 point
Judging from what *you* (and it is *you*, not you) deem a pro, you are focused entirely on economic gain from the rifts, bringing it further in line with other skills to make them a commodity. This honestly just reads as "I should get more points at rifts because I trained my fighting skill"; which is utter garbage because it ignores the people doing the real work at rifts. What about the folks who build the safe areas, the priests who teleport folks in, and the folks who prep and make saccing materials and bring gems for the healers? Are you going to reward them? What about the folks who trail-blaze, putting up signs and maps? These are people who turn up the day before (some the moment the rift appears), and are continually working before the rift even starts, mostly it is people like that who make the rift an experience, not the people doing the killing. Are you going to reward the people who gather up mounts for teleportees too, or the ones who cart/sail their neighbours to the rift? You're arguing that the people who contribute should be rewarded, but you've failed to see who really contributes and assigned that role to the most visible participant. Ask around and you'll find that it isn't the guy in glimmer up front, hacking into the ranks of jackal critters, that people think deserves the reward, or even the priest spamming LoF to keep folks alive (and it really is hard work keeping some of you folks alive, trying to tank a rift ogre in studded leather is just not a good idea!), it's the people who do everything to make all of that possible. You want to make rifts like other systems in wurm, but your suggestion fails to do that. Wurm's existing systems reward all forms of participation, not just the ones most visible at the end, and this would really turn rifts into events the majority of the population would avoid.
  45. 1 point
Tagging is silly, something like "If you're fighting a rift mob any rift mobs that die within x tiles of you will give you points, even if you didn't target them" would help with that part of it. Not really sure how i feel about higher stats = more points.

Seconded for being able to bind specific emotes Even just being able to keybind 'smile' would be a godsend for everyone that uses Granger to manage large herds.

I would love to have a map on WU of the old JK Home server. Here are links to some of the JK home map dumps. not sure what to do with them. If anyone has any ideas how to do this I would be so excited. https://www.dropbox.com/s/tdnhdchn5niiiq2/jenn002-20090715.png?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/3bbh4g6e8tpqu1f/homeroadmap.png?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/y4d70sldqs6oaf2/roadmap.png?dl=0
