I have probably built like 100 bridges so far (don't know if I can check that somwhere) from which like 50% were just short ramps or bridges used to make walls and the other 50% mostly very long bridges. Don't have a pictures of all bigger ones so just gonna post what I have:

last thing we need is another server, player base is tiny enough already, no reason so scatter us even more. If anything then made it possible to travel between North and South

Wurm and (mini)maps don't go together. Wurm's world is not static as in other games/ MMORPG's. People can and are constantly adjusting the landscape and terraforming, digging canals, deforesting or planting new forests and etc. Deeds appear/dissapear, new villages exist and some other villages die out... You can see where i'm going with this I hope. We have a world map with a grid and a compass. That should be enough, especially for smaller servers like Cadence.

but why... aren't new servers killing population from old ones and eventually as you make new friends.. you also lose some new and old ones because of the clusters and breaks/burnouts/irl-reasons/etc.. unless you're a constant and remaining to play around, you'll turn into 1 of the 'problems' above

A sensible person would have adjusted their deed boundaries a bit and gotten on with life. Well ol' Auntie Sid's been accused of being many things, but 'sensible' is not one of them. I'd managed to get NS up to about 97 and discovered that I had some time off of work in December 2020 and said to myself: "Self, you are practically to 100 in this skill. Hey everyone! Traveling across the many highways of Wurm, you will often times encounter a truly magnificent bridge! With the influx of new players because of the steam launch, I'm asking everyone for any pictures of bridges that got you really inspired to do something impressive! The bridge pictures can be something you built yourself, or just something you passed by and had to take a screenshot of. I particularly fancy bridges that span from building to building, island to island, and from mountaintop to mountaintop. So citizens of Wurm! Let's see your bridges!

I have no issues with new servers if it means old servers get merged/closed/locked. At some point having a ton of servers to update, maintain, reboot, etc becomes nonsense. I do not work in the game industry, but I do work in the information technology industry. Even if these servers are VM's it takes man hours to make them work, and there is a point at which this becomes cost prohibitive. Bring back the original Epic idea and modify it. Come up with an incentive for people to reclaim silver or perks for the years they spent on these toons to move to the new server(s). Have a PVP map with exclusive resources of some sort in the middle, then one or two PVE servers on the outside. Everyone works toward a goal while giving PVP a reason without being a requirement, meaning PVE players can participate as well. Give the "winning kingdom" some sort of perk on their account. The servers reset every six to eight months, presenting a yearly "new server land rush" without having the server bloat. That rough draft of an idea isn't perfect, but today we are right back in the same boat of having 400-ish concurrent people playing. This time last year it was about the same number, except we are even more spread out. How many times do we need to see landrushes bring people back, only to have most of them leave after a short time?

I understand that some people might oppose the idea of having a magical eye in the sky and know exactly where they are and what's around them but ingame map mods for WU exist and they handle it very well, from showing deed borders to terraforming changes (instantly). There is no technical difficulty there, there is an immersion breaking aspect which some people don't want in the game for some reason, surely if i don't like it, i can close that window and never use it.

Just merge the two freedom clusters already. Announce it as a big event, pointing out that all players will be able to explore/access more servers, etc. Who knows, that might even bring some players back.

Pretty much this. Adding a new server will fragment the population even more and I'll bet my left testicle it will cause the population to drop even more due to the "dead server effect". Devs should focus on bringing quality to existing servers. Rather we should go the opposite way. Either re-cycle current servers like Epic which are dead servers and turn them into something else like :challenge servers, hunting servers, pvp with a twist servers, etc. Opening new servers won't do jack.

I would first and foremost like to thank @jackjonesfor giving us all the Xanadu Community Map which we've used for the last 4-5 years. His map system is also one of the founding blocks of the newer maps developed by @Yagaand @Substr. Thank you Jack, we miss you. Jack has been preoccupied with RL issues the last year or two, and as such has not had time to help maintain the map and upload the new map dumps. So, I have been working with @Yagaover the past few days to provide a new Xanadu Community Map. @Yagaand @Substr have developed a system which they implemented for the Deliverance server initially and which we have now updated for Xanadu. New Xanadu Community Map Features 1. Map coordinates The map offers a common type of map grid (as an optional overlay), using the same denotation as the in-game map (for example "E 24"). However, to place and find locations in a much more detailed way the new map is based on "tile coordinates" (x, y), making it possible to narrow down locations to a single tile on the server! This allows us to place deeds and landmarks much more precisely than before. (Map coordinates are explained in the next post.) 2. Zoom The map provides various zoom levels, allowing you to zoom in from a view of the entire server to close-ups of single deeds. 3. Layers Deeds, Tunnels, Canals, Bridges etc. are actually map layers which can be toggled on and off. You can also choose among two map types (Terrain, Topographical). Note that the Isometric map is not available on this map due to the extreme distortion of tile location caused by mountains and other terrain, thereby preventing an accurate placement of deeds, tunnels, bridges, etc. 4. Finding settlements The map offers an easy-to-use search function for deeds. 5. Selecting locations and copy coordinates You are able to select any point on the map and save the coordinates for future use. Colours and Symbols Map Information This new map has been reproduced based on the previous map data and as such some elements may not be 100% accurate since we are using a completely different system. To this point, if you notice anything missing or in the wrong place in terms of settlements (deeds), highways, tunnels, canals and landmarks, please post in the thread below using the Adding Data guidelines provided. In particular, Tunnels and canals are handled a bit differently on this new map. There are Tunnels - which are foot traffic only, there are Canals - which are boat traffic only, and there are Tunnel+Canals - which allow passage of both boat and foot traffic. Please post in the thread below any discrepancies you see so we can get these accurate. Also, those tunnels that are knarr-depth only will need to be named as such, as that data-driven designation is not supported in the new map. Adding Data Please post in this thread to report new or changed data. (Do not send PMs, either on the forum or in-game! Do not use Discord to add data either!) Please use tile coordinates (x, y) to report new map data. (Hover your mouse pointer over the location you wish to report, click once to see the coordinates in the "Selected" field, copy the coordinates.) Deeds: Please report the settlement name and the coordinates of the settlement token. Example: "Serendipity Bay [1650, 1384]" Highways: Please report the coordinates of all points describing the highway (start, "corners", end). Please use this format: "[[5229,2327],[5543,2328],[5547,2332],[5577,2332],[5588,2321],[5614,2321],[5623,2312],[5684,2313],[5692,2321],[5790,2321]]" which is the actual coordinates of the highway that stretches across G20. Tunnels, Canals, Bridges: Use the start and end coordinates. These elements can also be given a name. Please only add fully completed Tunnels, Canals and Bridges. Fully completed tunnels are those with both walls reinforced along the entire length, all veins in the roadway/canal gone and with the floors mined down to their final depth. Other: You can also report guard towers, mission structures, and special named landmarks (like names of lakes and mountains, as long as those names are agreed upon among the local community.)๏ปฟ๏ปฟ Note that Xanadu is an Opt-In map, meaning that you must ask to have your deed posted on the map. We encourage you to do so as the more deeds that are shown on the map the easier it is for people to find their location when they're out exploring and lost , or when they're trying to come pick up that cool whatchamacallit that you offered for sale or check out your totally awesome deed. However, only a Mayor or an authorized villager can request that a deed be added. THANKS! I'd like to thank @Yagafor his very fast help in setting up this map and for him offering to host the actual map and input files. Also, I'd like to again thank @jackjonesand all of the previous Xanadu Community Map editors, without whom this new map wouldn't have been possible. New Xanadu Community Map

I just tried enlightenment for the first time and was surprised by the failure rate. The student was level 5 with almost 30 meditation (so well over the 20 needed for level 6); the teacher level 8 with almost 50 (so well over the 40 that he needed to reach level 8 ). With the 1 minute cooldown after each failure, the teacher and student were basically in limbo putting off other work waiting for the next go. After about 15 18 (edit: just checked the event log) failed attempts, I went to my special rug and got the question after just a few tries (matching my experience in progressing through the earlier levels). Progressing a level of meditation already requires many days of cooldown and progressing meditation skill, which itself has tedious restrictions on increasing skill. Further, enlightenment can only be attempted when the teacher and student are exactly three levels apart. These feel like more than enough restrictions for enlightenment and I'm not sure why it needs such a high failure rate or long cooldown after a failure -- or even the chance to fail in the first place. If enlightenment really needs chance to fail, surely you should be more likely to pass to the question when being 'enlightened' by a teacher than when using the same rug to meditate on your own? I notice on the wiki that the one minute cooldown was added in 2013, so I'm guessing it was brought in later -- to counter some abuse? Suggestion: 1) Adjust failure rate so a student has a much better chance of getting the meditation question via enlightenment than if she had meditated on her own with the same rug 2) Remove (or drastically reduce to 5-10s) cooldown on enlightment after a failed enlightenment attempt 3) To balance the first two, add an 18-hour cooldown on the teacher enlightening again after a successful enlightenment

Right now, There is no (fast) way of knowing which report your almanac is missing. Why not just list all the possible harvest reports in the Almanac Summary? example: Report QL State Harvest start harvest end Apple 39 Harvestable A week ago 4 days <-- A report you already have Grapes - - - - <-- A report you are still missing Also, add "Missing" as a category to Almanac Summary for sorting/filtering when implementing this. The above implementations will make it more logical and also easier to add missing reports to Almanacs, Especially if you're making a ton of them to sell.

If people are leaving not long after a land rush, then does that not show that new servers/new land are not something that keeps players around for a long time. It is more like a repeating gimmick.
  24. 1 point
New servers are required in order to maintain growth in the game. It's an unfortunate side effect of the way the game was designed. Without new land and new opportunity, you will not see significant increases in the population. Any fixes and improvements to existing servers will only serve to maintain the existing players, and maybe draw a few others out of hiatus. If that's the goal - to keep the player base roughly where it's at and make the game more enjoyable for those who are playing - then adding a new server is not the solution you're looking for. However, if you truly are actively looking for growth in Wurm and still disagree with the addition of new servers, then I'd love to hear a pitch on how to grow the population. Marketing/advertising will not get you very far without a new opportunity (new server) to utilize as a selling point. Fixing problems within the game as it stands will not provide significant growth. It will maintain existing players and maybe get a slight increase. Launching on new platforms (Epic Games Launcher, Console Ports, etc.) will create a significant increase, but are non-repeatable and thus not a long-term strategy.

Just keep it simple and allow boats so people can travel and interact freely, including for community events like rifts and unique hunts. It's events like those which help bring the community together, with how low the player base is now we could use more of that. So Why bother with such a restriction? At this point the economies are on par already anyway crafter skill wise as well. There's people selling ql 98 weapons for example and that is the slowest crafting skill to grind up by far.

If theyโ€™re merged, maybe have 3 months or so of portal only travel. Then players could cross over and do stuff on the other cluster starting from scratch, but still have good skills.

Like I said, before a Steam, there is no such thing like fresh start in Wurm, beside fresh land rush. All the vets, starting from scratch will be always far far ahead (couse of their experience) of all the new players that start from scratch. We have seen this on steam servers. So maybe we should stop pretending that people cannot cross with their skills and stuff couse they gonna destroy economy or new players experience. Just let merge population, which is too thin in Wurm to be spread more and more. If there were an option to consolidate all pvp servers into one big server, I would gladly let go all that I have built in past years (and there was a lot of it), just to keep population together, not spread among servers. Would be nice if we could keep our skills and maybe some stuff.

Hey fantastic work. I decided to return after quite a bit of time off and I was pretty happy to find many of the trees that I had planted in and around my old deed had matured. I decided to start a new deed over the old one and am in the process of building. I paved many of the highways N of Heartland and when I took a trip down to grab some clay, was pleasantly surprised at the transformation of trees and tunneling. What a great change from my former time on. I'll definitely come out and help next time you're working the tunnel. Cheers, Serzane.

+1 Please add x4 starter town's, one in each quadrant, NE, SE, SW and NW Would offer more choices to start from, considering how crowded it quickly gets around single starter towns. Also someone does not have to walk for hours to get back their body if they die without a home village. Indy size is the perfect balance between too large and too small. Smaller then Indy and a new server will fill up on the 1st day. Larger then Indy and you get Xanadu sized lag issues. I like the idea of a inner sea or lakes Not connected to outside perimeter ocean, but I would not go for circular world would. A square world would have more land for folks to explore and find a place to live. Food for thought, Cheers, Hughmongus Cartographer of Indy

And this is exactly why I'm reconsidering Premming again for the coming months. Don't get me wrong, I love wurm and what it has to offer but it needs changes and updates ( for both existing players and also to attract and KEEP new ones ) and I simply don't see much of that happening.
  43. 1 point
Not everyone is interested in making a whole page complete with photoshopped screenshots and an A4 full of text + redirects to other posts when you're just looking for a single item or want to sell something randomly quickly, with the best price possible. No offense but I can see why wurm has a low player base looking at what veteran players want in Wurm compared to what wurm SHOULD offer in 2021 if it wants to stay alive and not in a coma.
  44. 1 point
So there are people seriously downvoting an idea of an auction house? I know wurm "needs to be difficult/edgy" blabla but seriously, wurm is a dinosaur when we look at how trade is done currently. A trade chat channel with people spamming offers. I have to sit down and scroll thorugh them to find what i'm looking for. How is this even a thing in an online game in 2021? I want a list of either players or their items, with the prices, which then I can bid for or buy/buy-out. This way you will encourage more people making stuff and selling/trading them and we can see who is overpriced and who has good deals usually. No, just admit that forum posting for sales is OUTDATED. Sure, it works. Just like how a bus or a truck works and is "needed" when you just want to visit your neighbor down the streets. The whole PC/WTB/WTS thing in wurm and the trade channel is silly and outdated. Veteran players managed to fool alot of new players with their prices in this way and I know a couple of new people personally that wouldn't even bother doing the whole trade channel acrobatics to find the stuff they're looking for. Why should trading be such a hassle ? Because some veteran players are "used" to it? Imagine a real-life company, in dire need of changes to survive and where employees simply shrug and say muah- this is the way we do it and have done for years so we don't need to change.

How To Use The Map 1. Navigating the map You can zoom and pan (move) the map using your mouse. Zoom in and out by scrolling the mouse wheel or using the "+/-" buttons in the upper left corner. Pan the map by holding the left mouse button while moving your mouse. 2. Map coordinates The map is based on "tile coordinates". According to Wurmpedia "a tile is a 4 meter by 4 meter square on the ground, which pretty much makes up the world of Wurm". The Xanadu server is a square of 8192 x 8192 tiles (corresponding to roughly 32 x 32 kilometers). On the official map dump image as provided by Code Club AB each pixel corresponds to a map tile. Map tiles are described by 2 coordinates (x, y), each counting from 0 to 8191. This coordinate system (unlike the "classical" Cartesian system) has its origin in the upper left corner: For example, the upper left corner of the map has the coordinates (0,0), the lower right corner is at (8191, 8191). While you move your mouse pointer over the map the coordinates of the current map point are displayed in the sidebar (field "Current"): This is how you determine the precise coordinates for any map point you may want to work with. You can also select a point on the map (to save its coordinates) by a single left-click. A small crosshair symbol will appear and the coordinates will be shown in the field "Selected". The contents of that field can be copied to the clipboard in the usual way (by selecting and pressing Ctrl-C). Clicking on the same location again (on the crosshair symbol) will remove the marker. 3. Layers Most information on the map is provided as a layer that can be turned on and off. You see a list of available layers in the sidebar. By clicking the little checkboxes you can toggle that type of map information on and off: The letters in parentheses are the hotkeys to quickly toggle a layer: Press "D" to toggle deeds Press "H" to toggle highways Press "B" to toggle bridges Press "T" to toggle tunnels and canals Press "R" to toggle resources (clay, tar...) Press "S" to toggle special places (mission structures...) Press "G" to toggle the map grid. The "map grid" is an overlay showing grid cells that use the same notation as the in-game map. This can be very helpful when trying to describe the location of an area for another player when in-game. 4. Map types In correspondence with the various map dump types released by Code Club AB, you can choose between a pure terrain map and a topographic map: 5. Find a settlement or special place If you want to find a particular settlement or a special place, just use the Search function in the sidebar. You can either enter a name or use the drop-down list: 6. Loading the map with coordinates You can load the map by adding location coordinates to the URL (web address) like this: http://xanadu.yaga.host#<x>,<y> (Replace <x> and <y> by valid location coordinates). The map will load and be centered on the given location (if the coordinates are valid). In addition, every time you select a location by left-clicking on a point on the map the URL shown in the address field will change to show the selected coordinates. Thus, you are able to share a view of a certain map area by just copying the address shown in the address field of your browser. 7. Map Regions When activating the coordinate grid (press "G") you can also see the "map regions" as used in mission descriptions. There are 9 regions: northwest, north, northeast, center west, center, center east, southwest, south, southeast Map regions are shown by dashed black lines and slightly colored area overlays.

Funny how 1000 other games have auction houses and the market works well for them. Player interaction isn't dead in them. They actually have a healthier economy due to goods being available. But Wurm HAS to be Wurm. Has to be the different kid on the block that wants us to waste time just sailing for hours to deliver goods or begging in the trade chat for someone to buy something hoping they will be online. Pretty much my experience from trades. I don't think Iv'e spoken to anyone I've bought/sold items from after that. The social aspect in Wurm HAS to be voluntary not compelled. If we were to deconstruct all the arguments against an AH, we can see they're all flawed in the end. Kills Player interaction? Wipeout said it best. Destroys the market? How? Explain the economic mechanism. I'll wait and point out WHY marketplaces like Amazon went so big. Because they centralized item offer and demand on a platform. That's what an AH is basically. A trading platform. No more no less. Instead of people visiting 500 different websites comparing prices and delivery offers, they instead checked most things on 1 website. (Personally I'm not a fan of Amazon for ethical reasons and how they treat their employees. But I understand WHY they got so big in the first place.) What other arguments do we have against an AH? Lowers prices? Huh. Do we really need to go over Economy 101 again to adults? Seems like it. Supply and competitive offers lower prices. Wow! Really? So are you saying it's good for the customer? Who suffers from this? The greedy little ###### who want to not implement an AH in the game so they can sell their stuff at higher prices? "But hurr durr it's more immersive to find merchants/traders yourself." Immersive? Really ? ###### kidding me? What the ###### is immersive about finding a random merchant that DOESN"T talk, doesn't have witty banter, simply is nothing more than a sterile trade window. That's it What the hell is immersive about it? Do I have to sail all across the islands to all the merchants/players to find a decent deal? That's immersive? Not sorry about the rant but i'm really sick and tired to see people asking for an auction house for god knows how many years and people shutting it down with no solid arguments. Let's do everything possible in Wurm so players can't save time. Let's scroll through trade chat like it's 1997 again and try to find a specific message for a specific item you need. Let's browse forums hoping to find a decent price or auction....oh not....the FORBIDDEN word. An auction? Really...how many auctions have taken place on these forums? Hundreds by now? .But no...let's not code it in game...ruins everything.. Why put a centralized trade system to streamline a process that should be simple in the first place? This is Wurm. This is 2020. I don't expect anything to change.
