    It's kinda like a long term relationship. One of the general goals is to work out the negative parts on both sides. But if those negative things persist over the years, eventually the relationship collapses. The sad part is that at its height, Wurm could have probably hired 20 developers to add so much fun content to the game. A lot of questionable design decisions have simply piled up that make players leave. Abandoning WU. Abandoning Epic for years. Absurd journal goals like 100 rifts (seriously, please fixt that pile of doo doo) . Pvp is dead on chaos. Splitting the playerbase over more and more clusters. Bugs not fixed. Missions being the same after 10 years. More communication between staff and players. Last post regarding the animal update was almost a month ago. No significant QOL improvements to make the game faster and less grindy. A ridiculous lack of advertisement. An unneeded fishing update that turned a simple system into a convoluted system with the same rewards. No two way transfer of skill between EPIC<>FREEDOM essentially voiding any reason to play Epic. Name whatever you want. They all are variables that are giving Wurm the slow death of a thousand quits. I am not certain we could ever attribute Wurm's pop decline to just one thing. More like a system of things that need to be looked at globally. Most of the negative things said about wurm from long time players actually come from a love of the game, as counter intuitive as it sounds. We all see Wurm's insane potential constantly reigned in for some reason or other. Most of these things can be fixed if turbo-life-saving-mode would be engaged.

    I really like the idea to have it added to launcher, when the skin becomes available in shop. Doesn't need to be the main image, just a small thumbnail, to open the main forum/discord/social media link. "New bling available, go check it out!"

    Considering how rarely we get news posts on the launcher, I wouldn't mind seeing it there. Games often promote new MTX content in the launcher, maximum exposure.

    Alrighty! I was just confused that the screenshots are uploaded to social media first, when the post on forums would reach more players I think. I never check Instagram, nor Discord and last time I've been on Facebook is some years ago 😛 See you In-Game o/

    Probably too late for AH update, but please add different models for sheep before and after shearing. Keep them close enough to be reasonable but different enough to be able to tell which sheep need shearing. Currently you just have to spam around to get them all. Also add a cute hop animation for lambs

    It's hard to understand how anyone could have only negative things to say about a game that has kept them entertained for five/ten/fifteen years.

    As time passes it becomes increasingly obvious that the steam launch was likely nothing more than a last ditch cash grab from the new company before leaving it to stagnate, taking the money elsewhere. It's especially upsetting that the work that is apparently being done is going towards implementing things that should've been in BEFORE the steam launch and the mass influx of new players/toons from it. Quitting and going back to lurking the forums has definitely been on my mind often the last few months, but then again there is practically no chance of another "reboot" or "relaunch" opportunity like there was with steam. Rushing plans/content screwed the game, once again.

    As title, something to work towards for making your personal tools the best instead of just buying metallic liquid every time, maybe something like 1k rift points for a 2nd rune slot and 5k points for a 3rd rune slot would be cool

    I for one am hoping we can figure out a better storage for all the archaeology fragments many have sitting in chests, and so many of them that only hold 100 at a time. Can we think of something better??

    I use amphora racks, can fit 15 satchels to a large amphora, 12 large amphora to a rack. Works out to 18k fragments in a pretty small footprint. I think technically with some jiggering you can squeeze more in, but that's already a silly amount so I haven't really tried other sub-containers.

    Well said Dave, except it is 2 active players now. If it weren't for Covid restrictions I would have never indulged the OCD side of me by playing this game so much, but these are soon over. I don't feel I have much to add in terms of constructive criticism that wasn't already mentioned by someone else here. I had the most fun, when I was a newb and thought the game is something else than it really is. I was the village cook in the huge village Dave mentioned and people gathering at the oven added a sense of community that seems artificial in hindsight. All you do is spam pizzas, which gets old quickly. I lament how easily we lost our roleplaying population, since the game offers them basically zero tools. These are the people who made the village feel alive the most, but they got bored so soon, and I can't fault them at all. The journal goals kept me going on for longer but I now reached the "ludicrous cluster" and before I start considering 100 rifts, I'd rather quit the game. Thanks to everyone who prepared the rifts I attended, it is appreciated, but for me this doesn't change my opinion that rifts are content straight from hell.

    Would allow easy sorting of food buffs by name / duration. HUD icons are hard to search through. There's no obvious intrinsic order.

    Ozma is a little 1K map that I'm still enjoying as one of my own LAN servers, years after it was first created. It is ore rich, including moonmetals. As with all my maps, there are small patches of clay, peat, and tar everywhere.     What are the chances of introducing Epic <-> Freedom both way skill transfers? Of course with proper scaling. Currently, most people do not even consider playing on Epic, knowing that their progress (skills) won't go to Freedom in any case. Not gonna lie, it's not like many players would play here if transfer worked both ways, but I have heard in past years from few players that they would return to Epic if that was the case. Also, new players are not interested. I have seen many new players settling here and vanishing, sooner or later, after few weeks. They see an empty server and just leave. Sooner or later they realize that there is no point, couse they gonna stuck here with their skills in case they changed their minds and would like to go to Freedom or Chaos. It is not for me, I'am gonna stay on Epic anyway. Wurm is all about character progress and bending world to our will, and I put too much time in both to go somewhere else. If those transfers were introduced, then maybe some players could decide to return to game or play here, thus this server could get a little more life. That's all I'am asking for. Greetings

This one is a very exciting one for me because I get to introduce our newest critter that will be populating the world of Wurm. I've been dying to tell you guys about them! The devs have been hard at work implementing some changes for the upcoming Animal Update, and there are some exciting things on the way! There will be several new traits added into the game to improve animal husbandry and production, and provide bigger benefits to keeping and breeding critters of all kinds. These will also make having higher animal husbandry more helpful rather than detrimental to breeding like it has been. In addition to that, we are getting an adorable new creature… Allow me to introduce the donkey! These cute little critters will be available as a mount for non-premium characters, so say goodbye to the days of slowly plodding along on cows. In addition to new traits and donkeys, we are going to bring a bit of personality to your herds by introducing slight variations in body shapes for horses. Who knows, with these little guys running around your fields and pastures, you might also find a bit of a surprise once they’ve mingled and gotten “comfortable” with your horses… In-game Wurmpedia and UI fixes Another project we have been working on is finalizing some finishing touches and fixes for the newer UI, addressing concerns that some have had with it before removal of the old UI. This includes an update to make the Wurmpedia more accessible than ever, with the entirety of its information conveniently available in game. The screenshot above is just a concept, and it will be adjusted to fit visually with the UI by the time it is added in. The removal of the old UI will be announced when this update goes live. Stability Issues As you all may have noticed, Golden Valley has been having a bit of trouble getting situated after the migration, but today’s update will work on some stability issues and reduce the lag we have seen on all servers lately. That’s it for this week’s Valrei International! If anyone needs me, I’ll be busy expanding my stables and preparing my pastures for the adorable herd additions on the way!

    I’m sure the new combat overhaul made everybody think about what they would actually want to have. Before getting any fancy stuff, I suggest fixing the basics by: - Simplifying: Remove unnecessary or needlessly complicated features - Clarifying: Display more numbers of what things do Some of the mechanics that seem to unnecessarily complicate the game: Auto block, combat rounds, weight affecting parrying, alcohol for fighting and many more that most people don’t know about. Another mechanic that sounds neat but has issues in practice is positioning in melee pvp (as in standing behind someone). It doesn’t work in practice as server delay, ping and desync make everyone have a very different view of the battle. For example, when chasing someone both players will think they are ahead. One of Wurms greatest strengths is to be able to play with people all over the world. Combat stats should be displayed in the character screen. The single most important thing in Wurm is to watch progress as your character skills up. Having vague displays isn’t immersive as it just makes players having to seek out this data outside the game. Often, they will even find wrong numbers considering how complicated systems and spread-out information is. You want to see the damage difference easily when improving your weapon 5 quality. Attack speed, dodge chance, block chance, damage per hit and so on. How much damage your body strength gives you. Same goes for display by looking at weapons, shields, tell us exactly what they do and with a number. There’s no reason to display a line of text when the number would give actual more info such as this: Currently there is a lot of information missing from combat and clearing up some of these mechanics should result in - More meaningful player decisions - More noticeable character progression - Much more accessible for players Some more conceptual pictures:

    Every second weekend of the month, wurm becomes free to play for that weekend. Existing premium players get an experience boost (1.5x or 2x?), and non-premium players get to experience the premium version of the game. Such a scheme accomplishes 4 things: 1. Acts as a way to draw back older players (no need to worry about being a vulnerable de-premed character when you come back, you can come back on a free weekend and get to safety before you decide to repreme or not!). 2. Acts as a genuin "free trial" of the game, rather than the joke currently in place. 3. Provides a good metric on the impact of wurm dropping the subscription model, or expanding the free game in general. 4. Provides a genuine "freemium" path for those who are from countries where the euro dwarfs the local currancy.

    I plan to do first Steam release together with bridges update. Steam-exclusive features like cloud support will likely come later, on version after bridges I want to focus on quality of life features.

    Just got word today that the tunnel is accessable for traffic again. Therefore status of the canal can be changed to open. If all goes well - and knowing Qd, it will - it will be accessable for all boats after the weekend. Thanks for the update, Qd and thanks for all the work done in there.     Fishing is in a very strange place right now, compared to virtually all other skills in Wurm. It has extreme length action timers (which can end at any time), and does not benefit from WoA, but does not have the enchant protection for CoC that Meditation has. The QL of fish caught is very random, even at high level, similar to old gathering skills (eg. Foraging and Botanizing, pre-update). Fishing also is unaffected by virtually any of the new runes. Too large of fish (Roughly 3+ kg), when fileted, also do not give any butchering skill, making higher QL large fish useless for trying to grind. My suggestions for fishing are as follows: Have fish of any size give butchering skill no matter the number of filets produced Have fish QL follow the new harvesting formula: Skill +/- ((100 - Skill) / 5), and fish type more reliant on skill (less likely to get Catfish at low skill) Give fishing rods enchant protection similar to meditation rugs Have fish QL affected by the Bronze rune of Libila (+10% gather QL) With these changes, it brings fishing more in line with other similar skills, lets high fishing skill not be a detriment to grinding butchering, and gives more reliable QL of fish.

    I'd feel bad for the devs if they go ahead with 2. Not long ago, forum was crying in their big baby bottles about the lack of new content being released right away. The amount of time and work to do this would honestly probably kill new content releasing. As for 3, yeah, there's a lot of systems and mechanics I really do with they'd go over, tweak and change without major overhauls to the skill or experience.

    I feel that one thing that that seems to be common among some people is that.....your playing the wrong game. There are thousands of games, hundreds of survival games, enough to fit every play style. Wurm is a certain play style, many of us have found that we like this play style...why do you want to change the game that many people love just because you want to play it to, but only you want to play it your way, not the way it is intended. Yes it is a loading bar sim...yes it is a grind...yes many of us love it. You want less of a grind, or faster more engaging action, find a game that fits what you are looking for. To suggest speed timers to be increased, or to suggest server wipes is just plane selfish. You want a game that has a core player base to change to fit your play style because your play style does not fit the game. Adapt or move on. This does not mean that new content is not needed or that changes are not required to help the game grow and appeal to new players and retain them. But changing the core of what the game is because it does not fit your playstyle is not the answer. Maybe changing the way that the game works will bring in more players for a period of time, but Wurm is built on the player base of a different generation. Wurm can be marketed to every person in the world, but as others have pointed out, the typical type of person that loves Wurm is an older (not always more mature) player base. To try and market the game to the generations of players that go from one mobile game to the next, always looking for the next best thing will never work for Wurm. Wurm is an old soul kind of game, slow paced and and that is what appeals to so many of us.

    I won't comment on the actual speed/strength mechanics, however from the visual standpoint, what you describe is pretty much exactly what the above already is, only simplified :). (so instead of having all the world's breeds, arabs and other nimble breeds have been packaged into the "hot blooded" body type, morgan's, clysedales, shires etc have been packaged into "cold blooded" etc) If you look closely, you will see that the hot blooded model is pretty much an Arabian. The cold blooded is meant to be a draft horse shape etc.

    I ran a town that had recruited about 140 people. It has 4 active players now, I don't play anymore either. Just came on here to see the latest update and found out it was a combat update. Why? No one I know complained that combat was too shallow. That's because the majority of players don't really care about combat. They are into the crafting/sim side of the game. The direction being taken by the devs over the years is the real reason this pop can't hold. They just don't care what keeps people here, in order to keep true to their vision of what they want the game to be. That's okay. Nothing wrong with that. We just need to stop having these discussions about player retention, it goes no where. They aren't going to suddenly care. Just for the sake of discussion, I will give my perspective as large town manager and what I saw of players leaving/coming: 1. Big disparity in play time. You can't just play this game for an hour, and log off feeling accomplished (this is perspective from many players who quit). They just felt like they couldn't keep up and it wasn't enjoyable to play for small amounts of time. There's usually always a guy in your town who literally does everything better than everyone else who's always on and there's simply no reason to have more than one of any craft. There's just not enough things to make, and he can start all the construction himself and do it faster. Really what this game needed was a cap on how much skill you could gain in a day to allow those without much time to keep up. 2. If they didn't quit immediately, they instead tried to "go on their own" and start their own town. This didn't last. The game doesn't do a good job of bring people together, to work towards common goals. Too much of the game revolves around doing the same action over and over, often afk'ish and this results in players not really interacting but instead just grinding. A sense of community doesn't really develop for those who do not have a lot of play time, meanwhile the 24/7 grinders all become friends. 3. Lack of content. A good majority of them simply just burned through the content. By 30 in any skill, you have access to 80% of the content. For example blacksmithing, there's really nothing to grind for other than higher QL numbers, which with the lack of statistics/information dumps you can't really tell how it's affecting you (there's no attack damage/armor stat, sorry). QL doesn't give the impression of content to players. 4. The chores set in. Once the novelty wears off, there's a lot of chores to do in this game. 5. Old archaic things that the vets think are cool are not what the new players think are cool (I.E. no map location just as an example). I lost a bunch of new players who had just started the game, wandered off from town to explore never to find their way back again and didn't log back on. Or they die, spend hours trying to find their corpse (once again no map marker, or highlights showing loot on ground) and give up and log off never to log back on again. These are just various complaints I heard a lot of consistently.

    But to use "oh you should travel around to find the best prices" is a silly point as even now that doesnt happen due to trade chat and forums market places and market deeds are as good as dead now days sure people still place merchants there but they arent stocked half the time or they are from random people who think a ql 63 pelt is worth 2 silver or its some poor merchant that has been left alone for 3 years by its owner but still gets 1-2 people looking every month so it never disappears and only has a woodscrap on it Having a central point to view and purchase things from would be akin to the trade window having a search function and listings being kept properly or it being easier to browse for wares on the forums(like having an external site that is designed to host wts and wtb and wta listings) except now its just done ingame via a npc that is pretty useless at this point and neither of the 3 npcs gets used much for their intended usage

    I don't like quests, but be cool to fish up a bottle with a treasure map. Maybe it makes you go to another server and find the treasure and not the server you are on.
