Ladies, Gents and Inbetweeners! it is my pleasure to announce a public killing of an aged fat green dragon. The killing shall commence on saturday at 6pm UTC on Harmony. The location is I/J 19, where the olive trees meet the desert. Big shoutout to Mechanicalcepac, Ikki and Yanbizarre who were all instrumental in this undertaking! Edit: T̶h̶e̶ ̶b̶o̶n̶e̶ ̶(̶i̶f̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶o̶n̶e̶)̶ The corpse loot will not be publicly rolled. This is something we want to do in the future, but frankly, we are not prepared to do so at this time. It seems a bit daunting to distinguish alt from main on this server. That being said, we received great tips on how to set that up in the future. On that note I would like to thank Stanlee without whose valuable input we would have run around like headless chickens!

Ok so what are the possible reasons for not implementing this? 1. It would be hard to balance -But that's not our problem, it's hard to balance but it could be balanced. I mean it's not as if existing systems are not already horribly broken, and have been for years. 2. Epic is dead, why bother -It's dead right now yes, and lets be honest here, it will stay dead until something is done with it. You've got some dead servers that need life, that is reason enough. 3. Skilling on PvP will become the new meta -No, this is where you do your job properly with (1) 4. This would be hard to implement -No... Every time you get a skill tick on epic you just grant a skilltick on freedom with a reduced size based on the difference in probability of obtaining that skilltick. I've got to admit, I doubt I'd every play on epic (so this would be of no use to me); however there isn't really a good reason not to do this.

Greetings fellow Wurmians! I recently realised that we are currently on year 1099. I was thinking, if anyone was considering a celebration for the year of 1100? It's very remarkable year, I would say. So, open discussion on the matter; should there be a party, is someone hosting a party, impalong, get-together, you name it for the celebration of year 1100. Looking forward to see ideas or possible plans!

We had a ‘one off’ skills transfer that used a formula to convert Epic skills to an approximate level on Freedom, it wasn’t perfect, but it certainly wasn’t a 1:1 by any means, I’m not complaining, it was an reasonable compromise for Epic and Freedom, my main Epic character became my Freedom priest, I was personally happy enough with that. Going forward we then had the Freedom to Epic skills transfer which is a continuous mechanic that applies every time any player transfers from Freedom to Epic, and it does leave Epic mainly players feeling a little left out, if we didn’t get the one off transfer we’d probably be a sight more left out, and that does bear on the new players who might want to dip a toe in Epic waters, there’s no incentive to skill on Epic, which leads to a lower incentive to actually play there at all. I understand the whole ‘no 1:1 transfer’ argument, but that’s not what is being asked for. Epic is still on life support, comatose and awaiting either someone with the guts to pull the plug, or with the vision and will to try and revive it. Time to make a decision.

I saw post like this before, if devs wont make anything, we should do. +1

What are the chances of introducing Epic <-> Freedom both way skill transfers? Of course with proper scaling. Currently, most people do not even consider playing on Epic, knowing that their progress (skills) won't go to Freedom in any case. Not gonna lie, it's not like many players would play here if transfer worked both ways, but I have heard in past years from few players that they would return to Epic if that was the case. Also, new players are not interested. I have seen many new players settling here and vanishing, sooner or later, after few weeks. They see an empty server and just leave. Sooner or later they realize that there is no point, couse they gonna stuck here with their skills in case they changed their minds and would like to go to Freedom or Chaos. It is not for me, I'am gonna stay on Epic anyway. Wurm is all about character progress and bending world to our will, and I put too much time in both to go somewhere else. If those transfers were introduced, then maybe some players could decide to return to game or play here, thus this server could get a little more life. That's all I'am asking for. Greetings

I also had this problem, but if you go into the settings menu and check "Use Normal Mapping", it will return these to glowing. However, every time I've done that, it's crashed the game (but always remembers the selection) upon saving the profile. But I see rare armor and clothing now.

It's been on my mind for some time and just wanted to get on the forum to create this thread, but I see it's already here. Would be nice if devs added some commemorative item, and if we celebrated it.

Skill transfer both ways, SFI - Epic access, NFI - Epic access, possibility to join Epic directly from Steam (if it isn't already, no clue as I don't play Wurm through Steam), rewards or events only possible on Epic after having joined a kingdom where the reward somehow can be brought back to through the portal to freedom and that way interacting the clusters. Or something totally different.... There's plenty that could be done to turn Epic around, one way or another. +1

+1 I and others have noticed that rare clothing and armour items no longer shimmer when dyed. At least while equipped. Hoping this might fix that?

I normally am in Aggressive stance and use a steel staff with all the usual high ql enchants, LT, MD, MS, Nimb, etc. As for the turning radius, I make a tight circle by holding down the turn key (usually D for a right turn) and making the circle tighter with the S (back) key. If the mob isn't hitting me as often since I'm circling it, then the occasional loss of the CR doesn't seem to matter as much. Plus with the staff, since it hits so often, I get the bursts of LT more often than I did when using a huge ax, so yeah, it works for me.

Few things I've found that helped when fighting. Always, always, always lead your horse when you're dismounted. First thing I do when I login or dismount is lead my horse. If you get caught by a mob while on foot you cannot lead the horse if you're actively fighting. You have to run away first to disengage before leading. If the horse is being lead though, you can immediately Ride it even if in the midst of a fight. Circling a mob does help in a fight. I've tested it countless times on similar mobs and found I had much better success when circling rather than just standing there and duking it out. It is a bit fiddly to do sometimes, so an alternative is to ride back and forth thru the mob as soon as he turns towards you, so you're facing his back more often than his front. I tried circling when I fought a duel against Morrowen and held my own for awhile, but when I stood still, he was much superior. Even if you have an LT weapon, don't sleep on getting your first aid skill up. When fighting greenish or champ trolls I still have to run away sometimes to heal up before going another round with them (not as often now that my fighting is much higher). And have cotton on you always. I carry 5kg in my horses saddle sacks so it's always handy.

YES. ^ This ^ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~TL:DR~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ditch the decades-old "narrative combat" concept. Streamline HUD/on-screen combat visuals. Use icons, custom colors, and such to replace as much combat text as possible. Get this stuff organized. Push beyond "update" and deliver actual "overhaul" content, not just back-end patching of things we should have already had. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In general, I feel like some of these on-screen combat visuals entirely miss the point of combat visuals. #1 is to deliver vital data that informs tactical adjustments in as CONSCISE a manner as possible. READING A FULL SENTENCE IS NOT "CONSCISE COMBAT VISUALS". Full, detailed sentences belong in the combat log - for fight review after combat has ended & you want to implement tweaks or revisions in your weapon, armor, tactical choices, timing, etc. On-screen visuals need to be a combo of simple icons and single-word or single-phrase text. Even with turn-based combat systems, if I want a "narrative" experience of combat, I'll pull up the log window - but the point is, we don't want narrative combat anymore. Games / MMOs moved away from that literally decades ago. I don't need a full combat overhaul - I wasn't even really expecting one anyway - but I did expect the current combat system to be better implemented. Right now, it feels like this update took the current combat system elements & just moved various elements to new places in the UI and made otherwise routine tweaks to the back-end numbers to better balance the system. That is minor patch content. Not a "Combat Overhaul." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here's some thoughts, so far - sentences & details belong in combat logs, not the HUD when possible, replace full text in the HUD with simple icons or simplified text (arrows, ability and status effect symbols or text, color-coded damage types, CRITS in CAPS or a special color, etc.) Organize floating combat visuals to separate what is incoming versus outgoing. My preference would be robust customizable HUD elements, but I know I'm dreaming. I would settle for something like incoming on the left side, outgoing on the right. Or incoming above the enemy head, outgoing below the enemy feet. etc. Scroll floating combat visuals when in close sequence. As I scanned the combat visuals about the hit I just took, the text would quickly be replaced by the next thing. Scrolling retains sequential info (like a combat log), but more succinctly - and keeps everything on-screen long enough for the information to be scanned before it disappears. Customizable would be preferred, but at least a Toggle on/off would be appreciated. We already know our damage type(s). This can help simply the HUD visuals. All I need on-screen is Blow Strength + Result. We chose and equip our weapons out of combat and can familiarize with all the special moves available. When we're actually in combat, "Light Slap" is optimal. "Hard Hurt" and "Deadly Damage." That's all. Thank you for reducing / tweaking the blood overlay... Can we get a Toggle option, please? I applaud and encourage remaining firmly away from the numbers / damage game. A single "50 slashing damage" begins an inevitable race to a finish line littered with epeen, dps checks, gear min/maxing, and more epeen. Not a good look - not a good fit with Wurm. Accessibility options... . Players don't need to be coddled, but please just consider customizable options for colors (for colorblind or color-sensitive players), customizable sizing & transparency for text, icons, visual effects (for neurovisual syndromes or other visually impaired players), the ability to Toggle on/off visual effects, overlays, specific elements (for a variety of neurodivergent reasons, including sensory processing impairments). etc. Design and Implement combat viability for fighting & weapon styles already in-game but otherwise undeveloped. Unarmed fighting and/or fist-weapon fighting; bows (and crossbows??), dual-wielding, magic (priest and sorcery). Well, I think that's enough to be getting on with for now. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. 💜✌🏼️🌱

That's up to you. But personally I'd change the area of attack the moment the AI decides to defend what you're attacking. While headwounds do have its effect, so does having a medium wound at an arm or leg. So switching area's of attack is always useful; both in PvP and PvE. The reason why I wrote a more general advice, is because it's that what a lot of players even don't know. Too often I've seen players with 50-ish FS heading into a rift fight wearing plate and being on foot; just to discover they barely can't get out of the way when being bashed and having "only" 1kg of cotton on them as they thought plate would protect them from all damage. Too often I've seen new players asking about the best armour or best weapon; while they're basically starting out with good gear. If players want to master combat in this game, they need to start mastering the basics: use gear that suits your needs, not what seems to best, make sure you got your supports (cotton, healing covers, farmer's salve, TENT!) with you and don't be ashamed to call for help (guards or other players) or to run away. But most important, be unpredictable. The AI will calculate where you may place your next attack and where it will place the next attack. If you keep following the same pattern over and over again, you may as well turn auto-combat on and wait for victory or defeat. If you're manually fighting, however, you may switch to a spot one didn't think about. So, using your question; of course you can keep bashing the head of that monster you're attacking. But the AI will defend that part and all you achieve is banging at something that doesn't get damaged; just to break through the defences once in a while. If you, however, switch to attacking the undefended legs, you got a huge chance to wound your opponent there. Which means your chance at a victory is a little bit closer. Thorin

So... having read and possibly understood much of the above I have this to ask; Where exactly is it that I queue up for this free scale set to which I am entitled? 😇 I mean, I couldn't possibly kill a dragon, but I would gladly hold somebody's coat, except I can't be bothered organizing my days around times that would work, and don't even ask me to go find a toasting-lizard myself, but if I can get a bunch of scale anyway, then yeah, I am all over that.

Thanks all - Right as I was logging out, I saw the player pop into local so I quickly logged back and PM'd them. They laughed and said all is well - said a GM let them know about it (guess the GM saw the post and looked up my log to see where I was frantically dropping things (grin)). The player said they took over the deed a couple weeks back - sounds like they aren't new or worried at all about the sprouts, teeth and paws (lol). I was so relieved and was humbled when they asked ME to let them know if there is anything I need! In all my many years playing games, I've never come across a community like this. Wish I would have known about Wurm years ago, and looking forward to living in this wonderful world. I've even roped in family, and we have an alliance with a few deeds close by so it is truly like an extension of real life (yep, there are trolls in my real life too, but at least in game I can get rid of them). Thanks again for the feedback - I now know some ways to right a wrong even thought my goal is not to have to in the future. I am really looking forward to the years ahead as I improve my skills and deed. It is going to be such a great journey!

well bandits are human so.... let them give you FS gain without the negative buff from pve/pvp thing? but that might incide farming them.... and we're not talking filling the server with them danger. no sealmageddon type event... just a few left and right like a lair does. or a miniraid. have to agree for getting some challenge and danger back in a bit... plus fightingwise there's a big gap i feel.. its either simple easy fights like spider and wolf and bears. then huge gap to trolls... would be nice to have some more things in the middle

Nice server, nice map, nice people! Hardly any roads out there yet, it is all still rough wilderness. Several old-old-timers. Turns out one of the players here sold me my very first weapon from when I was a noobie 10 years ago, heh. And they were already a longtime Wurmer back then. Very chill and relaxed atmosphere.

+1 for those of us that like to collect items from Duce, Tich, and many other beloved members of the Wurm community. We just found a large metal shield made by Duce last week, it was highly sought after and we would hate to see Wurm history erased unless there is a real reason for it. If you want your maker name on an item, then make it yourself.
