Annalise fought bravely for months but has lost her battle with cancer. Those that remember her know that God has his hands full as I am sure she is already redesigning and pointing out what could have been done better in heaven. For those that wish to express thoughts they can send a note to her son (Remyth) in game or to the following address: Lisa Lee 11189 Molly Drive, Neosho Missouri 64850.

In The Game you can Transfer Ore from a Pile on the Ground /or in a cart or wagon Straight into a Smelter until the Smelter is Full. But if you Transfer from BSB or Crate into a Smelter you can only do such based on what you can only Physically Carry I think it would be beneficial for all players if we could just Simply Transfer ore from a BSB or Crate into a Smelter Just like you can from a pile. Even if it does the "timer" Like when you transfer from BSB to Crate and Vice versa.

So after having the willows on my harbor (one tile out of deed) cut down, I realized that with the influx of new players some common courtesies we take for granted in Wurm may not be known. Maybe if we discuss them here, they'll be more common knowledge.. or maybe it won't matter? Anyway a couple I have thought about: 1. Roads. When building roads it is common courtesy to talk to those in the area where a road is going before destroying terrain. Maybe they have plans already, and you can work together.. 2. Cutting trees in people's perimeter is a big no no, as is any type of terraforming. Let's hear yours..

I met Annalise one day while running across Xan on a newly created alt. We chatted a bit in local. She was searching for marble. On learning I was on a new toon, she told me where I could find guard towers, and offered me cotton if I should need it. When I mentioned I'd seen a champ troll in the area, she headed over on her cart, hoping to take him down, but by the time she got there, he'd disappeared. She offered me a lift on the cart, which I accepted. She told me she'd been playing Wurm since 2006, and she had two deeds, one on the coast, plus the one we were headed towards, which was inland. When we got to her deed, she gave me a high ql meal for the road. I went on my way, feeling lucky to have met such a friendly, kind, and generous person.

Common courtesy, eh... Do I need to do it, here and now? But also: should I expect others to think as above, and see things as I do? Behaviour, consideration, compassion, all the "psychology stuff" - we struggle with that in the real world, so massively wrapped and boxed in thousands of laws and directives, and we still manage to not get along. Online game, an environment of anonymity, how much can we really expect any courtesies here at all? We can hope for pleasant people to walk by, but we must also be ready to accept those who see things differently. In the end, as sad as it is, all still boils down to "if I care about it, I better deed it". Not a rule. A precaution.

*anything taken without exploiting isn't breaking any rules* While this is true, taking something that does not belong to you and which clearly has an owner is stealing. Not against the rules, but still stealing. I think the personal attacks on this thread are also definitely not appropriate in a "common courtesies" thread...

Now you just need to tweak it so that books on shelves don't decay
  10. 2 points
I think it is being either overlooked or forgotten that "Deed it or lose it" is a warning to owners, along the lines of "Don't leave your handbag on the front seat of your car with the window down" . The warning about the handbag does not invite or excuse the theft of the handbag should that happen, and the the warning about deeding does not invite or excuse the theft of your stuff should that happen. To me, the "courtesy" bit is not about theft (I think we can all agree that theft is a bit on the rude side) but about other behaviours that affect neighbours. "Deed it or lose it" only really comes up because we are discussing what people should do, and one thing people should do about protecting their own stuff is have it on deed, if possible. The cranky-pants who tells me off for knocking up a fenced camp too close to "his" place is as inconsiderate as I am. Maybe more so. So, some more courtesy pointers (or "Grease for smooth interactions") Deed what you want to protect as being yours. Make off-deed (even perimeter) "holdings" obvious (There are many ways to achieve this).
  11. 2 points
It is a fact only to some extent. And it is, as I wrote repeatedly, a warning to those who may lose things off or without deed, be it to ruthless fellow players, be it to decay. All things inside a locked house, a cart, or a ship, are protected from being taken away by ruthless players. So they are not lost off deed. It is in no way a right to act as if "deed it or lose it" were an entitlement to make others lose off deed. Most times, perpetrators of ruthless or heartless conduct will get away, simply because Wurm is no theme park, and GM are no nannies. But those acting that way are always walking on a slippery slope, and may even earn GM intervention, and much more often contempt and reaction in kind by fellow players. Generally, ruthless behaviour is likely to create a toxic atmosphere with the danger of escalating tit for tat actions leading into a vicious spiral. Possibilities to make life miserable to others inside the set of written rules are close to infinite, and to name and ban every case is impossible. That is what the "play nice" rule is for. In fact, polite, considerate, and respectful conduct is likely to make life easier to everyone.

Stanlee worked for an alliance in a big village where he was Villager #427. Villager #427's job was simple: he sat at his desk in house 427 and he pushed buttons on a keyboard. Imping actions came to him through a monitor on his desk telling him what buttons to push, how long to push them, and in what order. This is what Villager #427 did every day of every month of every year, and although others may have considered it soul rending, Stanlee relished every moment that the orders came in, as though he had been made exactly for this job. And Stanlee was happy.

You're exploring the lands of Wurm, gathering information on a settlement that used to be there when you finally locate the hidden cache. You dig it up and alongside the small token and other goodies is a piece of either Dragon scale or Drake hide. Each cache has a chance of having either some scale or hide but not both. The maximum amount of scale or hide that can be found is 0.10kg per cache. RNG would play a role in whether you get scale, hide or none. Having higher Archaeology and Restoration would increase the chance of getting some.

This is terrible and deeply saddens me. Annalise helped me at The Landing almost 10 years ago when I started Wurm, dying a few times protecting me from Tonygreen, zarmazarmax, and goldfishmoo. She was so kind and patient. To this day she is on my friends list even though we’re in different places in wurm. Prayers need to go out she was truly a one of a kind person! Please if any sort of memorial is being worked on I want to help.

Player retention is an issue for the game as a whole. Fresh blood is what makes pvp fun you have people who aren’t afraid to die. New accounts should get the 50% buff that we got to help them catch up. Right now imo is the best time for new players to try out the game because villages have their crafters and priests up and running so they can focus on training new people. Unfortunately we have zero advertising for the game. We recruited 3 new players this week but they stumbled on the game by accident and the retention if we’re lucky is 1 out of the 3.

It could be pure randomness; ifIfhe probability of a discovery tick is low, volatility is to be expected. Or, archaeology rolls might work similar to botanise ones (the more often you visit a spot the worse your odds).

"Deed it or lose it", while I fully agree with this to an extent and have even used this phrase myself, in this case I think it's more a decoy from the actual problem at hand: the areas where you can't deed. There is a point where deeding becomes too expensive and where do we draw that line between what's deedable or not? Are we supposed to deed a 200x200 area in order to prevent anything from happening or do we hope that most people at least have a sense of ethics? Truth is, there has to be a line to where "deed it or lose it" makes sense, but then going over that line, common courtesies make more sense. We have all kinds of mentalities on the internet, from the "leet" pvpers who don't care if they make a moat around some random deed "for lols" to people who have a sense of community and want to help out every neighbour possible and everything in between. Trying to "enforce" such courtesies is really going to be nothing more than a nightmare especially when players of the types I just mentioned come and go constantly.

@PlatynaI have also cut down a few oak near you, inside a fenced (but not completely closed off) area 😉 I am pretty sure no-one even noticed because a) I carefully selected interior trees, 2) I made sure to replant and iii) I cleaned up all my rubbish. Had anyone been around, either in local or in my friends list or even a few I pm-poked I would have asked first, but since nobody was I opted for "forgiveness is easier than permission" and tried to make forgiveness as trivial as possible by minimizing my impact. I think I was courteous in that respect. Maybe "If you can't ask, don't do anything that can't be easily reversed" is another etiquette pointer worth considering. I do agree that rules in this regard help people who want to do the right thing in working out how best to do that. I think that this has actually been a good discussion in relation to the OP. It has highlighted, I think, that it is at the margins where the most aggravation seems to occur (i.e. deed perimeters, "gaps" in "the rools" etc) so that is where neighbourly etiquette becomes most important. So... Here are my offerings for pointers to new players on how to be good be good neighbours; Observe the golden rule, treat others as you would be treated. This applies to their environment as well. If the environment is not obviously uninhabited/unowned/unloved then ask around. The higher the impact of your actions (e.g. trees regrow by themselves, terraforming can be reversed but with effort, bridges canals dams affect travel) the more you should communicate about it. If you don't own it, as much as possible leave it as you found it.

Once more to the "Deed it or lose it"-Taliban: "Deed it or lose it" is not a rule "Deed it or lose it" is not a right to vandalize or take "Play nice or we rip your heart out" is a rule Deed it or lose it is a warning to those having precious stuff off deed outside houses, also a warning to squatters that their house protection is only limited (could land in perimeters). Those fervently advocating that "Deed it or lose it" is carte blanche to play rudely miss the point.

I am playing devil's advocate a bit, but what if I want high trees on my deed because I like their look and consider them decorative, but hate willows because they blind me when travelling. Why are my trees on my deed ass-making but your trees on yours not? A lot of other stuff is well defined by the rules, but we are speaking about courtesies, which are harder to set in stone, and trees being also less set in stone naturally become a major talking point, because some people think planting a decorative row of trees off-deed declares those trees owned, or heritage-protected or something while others think they are not. There is, near my house, a very neat grove of oak trees, in an area surrounded by a stone wall with a road running in a straight line through the middle - all off-deed. Are they okay to cut or not? I have cut down a few of them, but always planted a replacement, but I have never asked permission simply because; of whom would I ask it? There are deeds all around, houses all around, groves and forests all around, but nobody currently active (in the last year or so) seems to have anything to do with these trees. There are two other large areas nearby that are behind walls but again do not seem to "belong" to anyone active. Someone seems to have patched the boundary wall of one of these areas, but none of it is even in anybody's perimeter. That "Activities that are not constructive" is quit poorly worded. If I cut down a whole heap of trees in order to build a boat, how is that not constructive? If the trees are not on-deed, who could I be deliberately harming by cutting them? Not that I would do this, but I can see how easy it is for someone to do it with either no ill intent at all or even with ill intent that can be easily denied.

More common courtesies to get this thread back on track Don't intentionally mine into active player's mines Don't mine in other's cave projects like canals without permission (bonus points if you present a visual design plan) Don't build a colossus without consulting your neighbours, you may be ruining their view Build walls around large off-deed slopes to prevent random adventurerers falling in Keep gates unlocked to allow players somewhere to hide from aggressive creatures
  36. 1 point
I agree about trees and terraforming perimeters. It's a scum move. Also deeding up against someone elses deed. Deeding over highways and messing them up too, even if the links are maintained, people use highways, not just wagoners. Bashing fences to steal a newbies only wild horse. Just because something is legal, doesn't make it good.

The stone chisel and hammer were sold overnight, sorry! I've sent the trowel your way. [05:33:47] The items silently disappear from the spirit castle. You expect them to arrive in less than ten minutes. In regards to the 81QL iron plate set with AoSP, we'd ask for half the listed cast price on each piece. Multiply the cast power you are looking for by 9 then divide by half to get the total value. As a reference: 81QL with 60+ AoSP: 6 silver, 50 copper for the set, 4 silver 50 copper for the enchants = 11 silver. 81QL with 80+ AoSP: 6 silver, 50 copper for the set, 11 silver 25 copper for the enchants = 17 silver, 75 copper. As a repeat customer I don't mind giving a discounted price on such an order. Throw me a PM in-game and I'll make sure you get a good deal.

True but what's the point of a lunchbox if you don't carry it in your inventory?

You will not lose any skills moving from Chaos to other servers on the same cluster. For instance, if you train Shipbuilding to 20 on Chaos and then take a rowboat to Xanadu, you'll still have your skills, items, and the rowboat on Xanadu when you arrive.

If it is off deed and not secured, then it belongs to no one. If no one owns something then it cannot be stolen, it is free for the taking. Like it or not, it is the way the game is currently. I have seen many posts where people say that items were stolen, when in fact they did not take the actions that the game provides to secure their things. Once something is placed off deed and is left there, it belongs to whom ever assumes possession of it next. I don't own the fences off deed just because I built them. The only thing that I own is what I have on deed, or I have secured off deed using the systems in place that the game provides. Statements like the one you said are false and I wish people would stop saying them because new people read them and get the wrong impression. I fully understand the frustration involved in these situations, and I also think that something should be changed. I agree it is not pleasant and can be very discouraging. But in the mean time the game is the way it is and if you are going to advocate for change or modification of the rules, then please represent the facts as they apply in game. Using the terms of "stealing" and being "robbed" tends to give thought that in Wurm, if someone takes something that I did not secure, it is stolen and I can seek some kind of relief for this item being stolen. This simply is not the case and I believe it is better to educate people on the systems within the game that can be used to secure things that would keep any of these posts from even ever being made. Real life rules of stealing and ownership do not transfer to the game.

Sneak peek on Wurm Assistant 4. Hi folks! Whomever managed to cling on till now, anyway. I've been smuggling minor crumbs about working on new version of WA, other about it going slowly and yadayda. Today I'll write a bit more about this whole thing, so you can prepare for the future. Wurm Assistant 4 is not just an update to WA3, it's a complete rewrite. I've had to go this way, because of two things. First of, it was the only feasible way to add certain often-requested features: Linux Sync of all settings between computers Crappy user experience, this does not bother power users, but everyone else is struggling to figure things out. Heck I am when going back to using the app after a while (yes I'm using WA myself while playing Wurm). Better ways of dealing with multiple installations (we now have wurm online and two versions of wurm on steam) Second very important reason, even if only to me, is that I need a more modern looking project in my portfolio. I could make yet another blog engine but... no. Seriously, no. There are few other benefits: It's now over 5 years since I've build majority of WA3. In the meantime I've moved between many projects within 3 distinct software houses, learned a ton. I can use this knowledge to the fullest only when building fresh. It will be easier and faster to make updates. It will be easier to find issues, submit feedback, even collaborate! It will be possible to integrate with other tools, for example the amazing Deed Planner of Warlander. It will be much easier to add new features and improve existing ones. But there is no rose without a thorn. The interface of WA will change majorly. I will do my best, so that: every current feature to still be there WA3 settings and data can be easily imported every change to be present in such a way, so that it's easy to figure, how to use it the new way I know such drastic UI changes may drive some of you away from moving to WA4, so WA3 will still be there. And in every such case, I'd love to hear just why moving to WA4 is not ok, sometimes fixes are really easy. Thanks you and please stay tuned! In meantime, WA3 will get some much needed and mucher overdue updates.
