Driving home today a Venerable Kyklops cross my path. We talked a bit and he told me that he is quite lonely here and would like to meet some new friends. I promised to bring few folks to him and make soon some party together. He agreed to wait for me in one of nearby caves by next few days. So I am inviting all of you for Friday party which will occur here on Exo. Bring your alts, friends or sisters to get some leatherworking blood... and maybe dance with this unique creature 😛 Loot is private and will not be rolled. Events start at Friday 21:00CET Exact location and trip advises will be posted here ~12hours before slay. I just think I forget to tell him that everybody will be armed...

The general consensus isn't whether or not to deed it or not to prevent loosing it; the general consensus is that this isn't an SP game where you can terraform or cut down anything you want. It's a MULTI-PLAYER game, meaning you have to deal with other players who like to use certain resources too, who have worked to get something done, either by terraforming, by planting trees, building a highway or a (boat-) tunnel. I'm playing this game for a bit over 5 years now, I've made the mistake once to sand one tile next to a highway; which later turned out to be the first tile of someone's perimeter; without asking that player. I've also seen how a certain player messed up highways near Whitefay and at Newspring to expand his market deeds - using the "Deed it or loose it" excuse. I've seen how players messed up a boat- / road tunnel by mining down to max depth, because they wanted to make it a heritage site; and then abandonned the project. I've seen how a player dug down a part of an island to get enough dirt to build bridgesupports. I'v seen how that player basically blocked off a part of a lake and some deeds in that area, to use the above mentioned dirt to build a dam between his / her deed and the shore; using some small bridges to avoid this "brdige" being considered griefing. Afterall, the bridges make it possible to sail "through" it. All these things have two things in common; 1) They're all done without communication with other players; resulting in a group being angry and then getting the (here it is again!) "Deed it or loose it" comment. 2) They're all done by players who've been playing this game for at least a year and often a lot longer. Some were even done by players who were playing this game longer as I am. And imho that's the most worrying thing. If a new player does anything like this, half the server is on fire and usually the comments are scaring that new player away. Either to another server or not returning at all. If it's a veteran player, it's usually "deed it or loose it!", the veteran player shrugs his / her shoulders and continues the same practices elsewhere. And all of this can be avoided by the simple means of communication. If there's a deed nearby, check local for anyone being there. If there's no-one online, check niarja for the - possible - deed owner, ask around and leave a message at the forum. If you can't even have that kind of politeness, you may as well leave WO and better start playing WU, where you can create and ruin your own server without anyone getting angry about it. Thorin

More common courtesies to get this thread back on track Don't intentionally mine into active player's mines Don't mine in other's cave projects like canals without permission (bonus points if you present a visual design plan) Don't build a colossus without consulting your neighbours, you may be ruining their view Build walls around large off-deed slopes to prevent random adventurerers falling in Keep gates unlocked to allow players somewhere to hide from aggressive creatures

I recall early on, probably not in the tutorial so probably on-wiki, I was reading a bit about building your first house or choosing where to deed or something like that, and there was a strong mention of seeing who lived nearby and... wait for it... communicating with them. "Deed it or lose it" is a thing, but so is "play nice". 1. Roads, as per the OP. Same with terraforming. Be a good neighbour. 2.Cutting trees. I disagree with the OP. The perimeter around your deed is not YOUR perimeter. It specifically exists to prevent contiguous deeds and to ensure resources are kept available. To then have an etiquette requiring them to be unavailable to anyone but the nearest deed holder is antithetical to the function of the perimeter. It would still be nice to remind players to be good neighbours, but that should not go so far as to warn them off perimeters. A deed holder has exactly zero additional rights to the perimeter around their deed as any other player. I think advising players to replant, and to maybe think twice if all the trees are centred, would be good. If I find an oak (or willow) grove which is obviously regular and near an active deed, I leave it alone. If I find one that is not obviously near an active deed, and/or is irregular (i.e. not centred on tile, boundary not straight) I will harvest sprouts and probably a tree or two (as many as I can replant and still keep a few good sprouts). For other tree types, I will harvest wherever and whenever I need to, BUT if they seem to be a maintained grove then I will definitely replant, but if they seem "wild" then I will maybe replant (depending on how common the tree is in the area).

Visible decay rate: After hovering the cursor over and pressing alt-key in the details of a given item, we should see its current decay rate. Age of animals: The higher the AH level, the more accurately we should be able to determine the age of the animal. Age and additional information about plants: The higher the level of forestry, the more information we should have about a given tree/plant, for example: the more precise age, in how many wurm days will have sprouts and fruits. Butchering and tracking: The higher the tracking level, the greater the "examine" range on the selected animal should be. The combination of high-level butchering and tracking should allow the player to see the aggro range of an animal. Containers info: Each container should have an indicator showing its maximum capacity and the current space used. Taming: During taming, we should see the chance we have for success eg in the drop-down menu next to label "tame (xx%)" or on the bar after hovering over the taming icon.

Once more to the "Deed it or lose it"-Taliban: "Deed it or lose it" is not a rule "Deed it or lose it" is not a right to vandalize or take "Play nice or we rip your heart out" is a rule Deed it or lose it is a warning to those having precious stuff off deed outside houses, also a warning to squatters that their house protection is only limited (could land in perimeters). Those fervently advocating that "Deed it or lose it" is carte blanche to play rudely miss the point.

Maybe the bigger question is: Why chop down trees or dig up dirt next to a village? Even more so in their perimeter. There is a whole wide server with trees, dirt, sand...etc so why in some instances would you choose to pick a place where people live when you've got the whole map to play in? The deed it or lose it thing made me so paranoid when I had a deed on Pristine. I kept on expanding my deed more and more every month, just so that more trees could be protected, in the area which I had made nice looking. Though then that made me feel in a rush to deed them all before someone came along and chopped them down. It was paranoia. I did not even need that much space either. It was a waste of money. I would not mind if someone did chop down trees but as long as they replanted. I even created community farm areas that were not on deed land so that people could come and collect cotton from the farms but I still had the paranoia there. Someone did come along one day who was looking around the island for a place to deed and they talked to me first and asked about the area....etc. Which was very kind and nice of them. They did not stay in the area though. They were just exploring around. My line of logic is: If the village is falling apart, animals are dying and well, there is no deed there anymore then it is free pickings. I can do anything in that area because no one is around. It is wild lands. As soon as I get near a village, I clean up after myself, plant new trees (Most of the time) and yeah, I know where to go if I want to mess around alot - Away from the village. Maybe this is more easy on the South Servers where there is more wild land. Might be more hard to find the wild on the newer servers.

Rules should be accessible in game for those that don't use the forum. I believe it's a common courtesy to leave signs when modifying roads explaining the change being made, or offering some kind of reassurance.

i noticed a distinct lack of music instruments in a game about creating items and learning to fool around with them (yoyos anyone?) how about some classical medieval instruments for us to play with? using the fine carpentry skill we can carve: Lute body, strung with tailoring or ropemaking skill. Flute. used single, or several combined with string or wemp fiber for panflute. Harp body, strung with tailoring or ropemaking. Drum body, with hide streched over it using leatherworking. finally, once created you can perform with each instrument, gaining music skill, and possibly even skill in each instrument type. higher skill allows for better playing. lower skill causes more bad music and screw ups. much like early puppetry or yoyo skill, you'll do more messing up then playing for awhile. to take it even further, we can have the number keys represent notes once you have an instrument ether equipped or highlighted. pushing a number will attempt to play that note on the instrument. low skill will cause off key or wrong notes. high skill will allow people to play songs in game. multiple players masters different instruments could put on concerts, or form entire medieval symphonies!

It is a fact only to some extent. And it is, as I wrote repeatedly, a warning to those who may lose things off or without deed, be it to ruthless fellow players, be it to decay. All things inside a locked house, a cart, or a ship, are protected from being taken away by ruthless players. So they are not lost off deed. It is in no way a right to act as if "deed it or lose it" were an entitlement to make others lose off deed. Most times, perpetrators of ruthless or heartless conduct will get away, simply because Wurm is no theme park, and GM are no nannies. But those acting that way are always walking on a slippery slope, and may even earn GM intervention, and much more often contempt and reaction in kind by fellow players. Generally, ruthless behaviour is likely to create a toxic atmosphere with the danger of escalating tit for tat actions leading into a vicious spiral. Possibilities to make life miserable to others inside the set of written rules are close to infinite, and to name and ban every case is impossible. That is what the "play nice" rule is for. In fact, polite, considerate, and respectful conduct is likely to make life easier to everyone.

"Deed it or lose it", while I fully agree with this to an extent and have even used this phrase myself, in this case I think it's more a decoy from the actual problem at hand: the areas where you can't deed. There is a point where deeding becomes too expensive and where do we draw that line between what's deedable or not? Are we supposed to deed a 200x200 area in order to prevent anything from happening or do we hope that most people at least have a sense of ethics? Truth is, there has to be a line to where "deed it or lose it" makes sense, but then going over that line, common courtesies make more sense. We have all kinds of mentalities on the internet, from the "leet" pvpers who don't care if they make a moat around some random deed "for lols" to people who have a sense of community and want to help out every neighbour possible and everything in between. Trying to "enforce" such courtesies is really going to be nothing more than a nightmare especially when players of the types I just mentioned come and go constantly.

“Deed it or lose it” is not a rule; it is simply a fact. It is meaningless to debate whether it is or isn’t a rule, or should or shouldn’t be a rule—because it is just the way things are. It’s like debating whether water is wet. If you try to cut down a tree on someone’s deed, the guards kindly inform you that you are not allowed to do that there. If you try to cut down a tree in the perimeter, they go on about their business and let you go on about yours. You don’t have any claim to land you don’t own, and you don’t get to be in charge of what does or doesn’t happen on that land. By building or planting clearing or terraforming or paving on undeeded land (including perimeters), you are assuming the risk that your work may be undone. Others have just as much right as you do to build or plant or clear or terraform or pave—or even deed over—that land. We may hope or wish that others will do certain things that we term “courtesies.” But nobody has any obligation to do those things simply because we want them to. And disappointment is guaranteed if we naively expect these “courtesies” to be observed by one and all.

i live on a mountain and everything within about 2 map tiles of it is deforested already, i'd probably thank you in pm's for clearing the random sprouts that pop up from time to time. seriously it's hundreds of them a week you have no idea how fast forests regrow, a 50x50 grass field if it's surrounded by trees will be entirely trees within a few weeks, theres a reason every single server is 90% forests 10% steppe/sand

While I am happy that Wurm is enjoying a new influx of players with the Steam launch, I never wanted to go to the new servers. I don't like having people in local, crowding my deed and making changes to the local landscape that I have worked on. Also, reading various posts and talking to friends who went over and made new toons, I'm unimpressed with the new players and some of the old players that have come back. There seems to be a gold rush mentality along with the land rush, a sense that the main reason people have come back to play is to use their experience to quickly skill up and then price gouge in order to fill up their bank. While not everyone that is on NFI fits that description, there's enough of you out there that it makes me hope that you stay there forever and never come to SFI. I enjoy the peace and quiet, the ability to go deep into the wilderness, never see anyone in local and not have to worry that the hard work I put in will be jeopardized by some newb. If I want conversation, I have plenty of friends who I can chat with, there's also Freedom and GL-Freedom (which tbh I hardly ever look at), and there's enough trade going on on SFI that I can find imping and casting services when needed, good quality food at a decent price, and I can sell the dirt I'm generating in sufficient quantities to make a tidy sum. And for all the talk about people loving the grind of their new character, I don't see the charm of starving, taking forever to do simple tasks, and getting killed by wolves. Y'all can keep all that.

Since the patch, the amount of of hidden caches I am able to collect has seen a decrease of about 60-75 %. I am referring the the treasure chests one gets upon finishing a report. Now, I've heard mention that the frequency of finished reports depends on report ql, with higher ql reports giving less chance of a cache, (which makes no sense) but I can rule that factor out. the quality of my report ql has been unchanged since patch.

Hi, I have been thinking about this for some time. I really wish the papyrus sheet could be imped. I have this idea where we could keep actual books stacked on our bookshelves. And, we can. No doubt about it. However, I have this book a friend made. And it is decaying. I wish I could imp it so it will last as long as I do in the game. Secondly, though maybe not as crucial, I wish what we wrote in the books would look like real pages. It would be nice if we could build a library and have real books inside Here's me hoping! Amerian

As the topic says It's quite easy for any other religion to pop over to a server where a rite has been cast to go get the SB but my 'quick pop over' to Exodus this morning turned into a much longer adventure... Would be nice if it was as easy for Libila followers as it is for the other religions, specially since Lib altars are far fewer....

The idea is simple. I think we could benefit from having another Freedom chat for just the Northern Isles and one just for the Southern Isles. One could simply be called N-Freedom and the other S-Freedom. I think having that extra channel could help in communication within each cluster.

when you embark on a hellie, they'll attack any enemies they pass, but if you ride one, order it to attack something, then ride off, it'll stay targeting that thing and won't swap off it unless you disembark and reembark. Mobs nearly always target the rider over the horse, unless they're hungry, i've done plenty of hunting on a tamed hellie on chaos and the only thing i ever had problems with was kingdom mobs like boars, but they're passive on freedom. If it's branded templars won't attack it, and i think this extends to tower guards aswell.

No, those are the same thing. A perimeter is open space. In fact it is protected as open space. The deed is yours. The perimeter is not. Declaring that it is yours simply because it is next to what actually is yours is as much being a bad neighbour as cutting down the whole of an obviously maintained timber farm. I haven't had this issue with anyone yet, but from everything I have read in the fora, it seems to be opposite. There are no end of complaints about perimeter trees being chopped and GMs saying "deed it or lose it". I recall a couple of threads where GMs have specifically said that cutting off-deed trees does not constitute griefing. All we can do is rely on the rules as written, just as the GMs do.
  41. 1 point
I have a suggestion of a better rule: Put it in here or stop using it: Not to mention that the above "rule" is against "Play nice" rule and against any common definition of theft, therefore also in contradiction to "no stealing" rule. I was raising the issue that there will be more and more griefing and thievery therefore rules, at least concerning the perimeters has to be revised, so we can feel like we play PVE or not PVP server, I also pointed out that if current interpretation allowing stealing will be upheld this will draw players away. There is no day without a complaint. I noticed that people who harassed me when I started to play are back, and they started to modify my perimeters and my highway sideways despite the strict GM orders to stay away, as I got a strict GM order to stay away from their perimeters (and I even let a part of my perimeter go, so they will leave me alone finally, no dice!). The courtesy rules will not be followed if staff supports certain behaviours, not to mention many people do not read forums. I am telling newbies to not cut trees on the orchards or in alleys because they have a different function - make our surrounding beautiful and provide sprouts, but they can simply not listen to me. And situations like the above make me sad, because I know I will have to chop a lot of beautiful camellia hedges and put locked QL 70+ stone enclosures, and the beautiful and welcoming Platinum Estate (3 deeds - Platinum Ranch, Platinum Orchard and Platinum Fields) will look like a darn fortress. And I had no problem with people cutting some sprouts to plant on their deeds or cutting rogue trees, so these orchards had some community use. Every person who saw my deed knows I am not a fortress captain type of person. As I wrote here: I think @Enki and @Pomonashould consider revising the perimeter and enclosure rules. It works for highways, why not make it work for e.g. pens or orchards?

It stops being reasonable the moment those people do more than talk; which in the scenario of wurm's global chat isn't happening. The moment you hit /ignore you no longer hear them, and they are no longer a problem for you. It's like me and a few forum members on here; once I realise that all they spout is drivel then I just put them under "ignore" and carry on my way. Engaging with trolls is the only way you really lose out, and forcing censorship due to the actions of a few is rather like giving the trolls a gold medal for their work.
