make it our version of "Genesis" we use it on a horse, it immediately becomes an undead version and loses all of it's bad traits. undead versions are naturally aggressive to anything that isn't hots (but maybe can still be tamed i guess)

All of our surplus, unwanted Halloween items should be mailed to Retrograde who will destroy them on stream. He then spawns them in on Northern Isles and gives them out to those who request them (while stocks last) due to the utterly borked spawns

This I agree with. And if politics is ok, then why not religion or any other subject that could potentially cause dissension and intense feelings in some people? And especially at a time when passions are running high, like in today's political climate, I feel it has no place in a "game" that I'd wager most play to escape from the intensity for a while and try to relax. Methinks that's why politics and religion are usually lumped together when certain topics are excluded from "approved" topics on forums, because they both evoke intense feelings in some people and can lead to some pretty brutal verbal confrontations. Yet for some reason Wurm decided at some point to remove politics from the rule but not religion? I didn't know that. I thought it was still not allowed. I really have to wonder why. Sounds stupid to me. If people want to argue politics or spout their ideologies, Twitter and Facebook are that way ------->

Can we have in the future the option to have the holiday themes on or off. Seen this morning in chat people interested in being able to turn them off and when the advice on CA help is to tell a player to "take a week off" isn't really the best advert for the game. So I purpose making all holiday themes optional.

Follow-up Question: Given the potential for putting the game in a tough spot, does anyone know why wemp was included as an in-game textile in the first place? Is that plant specifically more historically-accurate for Western European late-medieval rope making fibers? (Something I've never actually googled before). I know that in some of the other historical games I've played with ancient or historical settings, I've seen other textile plants such as: • flax (ridiculously useful for linen, twine, rope, early paper products, linseed oil, flaxseed, livestock feed, and producing ink and paint, also historically accurate) • sisal (rope making in the Americas, from... cactus? yucca?) • coir (fibers from coconuts) • manila (fiber from a type of banana tree) • jute (which just occurred to me now, and I can't remember details about it) Soooo, is it #wogic? or is there a reason we have wemp instead of .. flax?
  12. 2 points
Honestly... thanks for the clarification. I had noticed the same when I first started, and had a vague idea why there might be a little extra fantasy element in the textile plants compared to say, grains or veggies. But my gaming history has been such that I typically shrug at these things and just go along with it. But I really do enjoy actually knowing that my vague guess was in the ballpark, and that there actually is a specific and 100% solid reason for it. Especially since sometimes the "why" here is ... #wogic I am also guessing that the technicalities and nuances of what may or may not actually be illegal aspects versus legal aspects of any given plant or substance - really just isn't worth getting into over what amounts to an aesthetic change in terms of game mechanics. And, as a final note - I'm pretty sure there was some in-game chit chat just the other day on my server when a newer player noted (more or less) exactly the same point. I made at least one comment listing my favorite sustainable IRL textiles, and real-world-wemp was on the list. It was a casual and off-hand comment for me, but I see now that in the wrong place at the wrong time, something like that could put my favorite computer game in a tough position. I will definitely refrain from any comments like that in the future.

Family-friendly ratings. Ratings boards will automatically give a strike to games that have content they view as counter to their idea of forbidding glamourization of or inclusion of 'drugs'. Also, please don't refer further to hemp plants in this thread. The same sorts of issues can cross the line here in the forum as well regarding substances which are illegal in certain countries with regard to topics/references in the forum as well. Forum rules aren't negotiable in this regard. Referencing wemp is fine, discussion of wemp is fine, but please honour the request not to tie it to any plants existing out of the game.

Yesterday I was a viewer in a stream on Twitch, and older gentleman who never played the game before and were a bit lost. I was actually part of a group that came over from another streamer, a new player who's been around for a bit now though. He started playing with a friend, and randomly picked the Xanadu server it seemed. They meant to play together but accidentally picked different starter towns. Although some of us tried to help them find each other via the highway system, which he easily started to use and followed (from Whitefay to Linton, about 6000 tiles to go), other "new" players suggested to re-roll and join Cadence instead. Why? Someone reasoned, all the lands on the old servers are taken, and you won't find a place there to settle. And more than one wanted them to re-roll on Cadence. That does seem to be the mindset of many newer players. Someone else started arguing, that people need to stop pulling new players away from the old servers, that this reasoning is a misconception. Which I tend to strongly agree to, but alas... that streamer's chat was not a place to argue so I kept quiet about it there and then. What happened next saddens me a bit. They re-rolled new characters and joined Cadence, running around a lively area unable to do something they were hoping to experience, because all the lands were taken, and they didn't find a place to settle. I didn't stick around for much longer though, it had been getting late. They're sticking around for now and seem very interested, but they're settled right now in a very unfortunate spot for a newbie character. Speculation but, perhaps due to the lack of finding undeeded land last night. Obviously, the new servers are more populated and therefore lively, that's definitely a big pro for a multiplayer game. But convincing new players that it's pointless to play on the old servers, that just hurts to hear. Looking at the stats of the servers, here are some of the current settlement numbers... Xanadu (8k): 993 Independence (4k): 612 Deliverance (2k): 266 Pristine (2k): 199 Release (2k): 192 Celebration (2k): 186 Exodus (2k): 165 Cadence (4k): 788 Harmony (4k): 988 Melody (2k): 504 The numbers speak for themselves, I think. There's much room to settle. Maybe there should be a stronger emphasis over the pros and cons and what cluster to choose? I'm curious what you think.

Post will be filled in with more information and pictures later, this is mostly an informational placeholder for me to add to, time permitting. Name will be changed later once I can settle on one I like As of last night, I have completed the bridge connecting west and central Harmony, at approx. this location: The bridge is fully highwayed, and is fully connected to the mainland highway network. Efforts are also starting to come underway to link up to this location across the western landmass, bringing wagoner (and frankly horse/wagon access to western harmony). Fences are not yet up on the dirt pillars but are planned for tonight, lighting to follow later and signage. Bridge can be found on the self-serve community map, thread here, map here Bridge stats: Bridge Style: Flat wood center, Arched wood connectors at either end Full length including dirt pillars: 260 tiles (1.04km) Full length of bridge tiles only: 250 tiles (1.00km) Longest Span: 28 tiles Actual bridge tiles: 500 Number of bridges: 10 Total, 8 N/S Flat, 1 N/S arched, 1 E/W arched Carpentry required for longest spans: 81 Dioptra and Range pole QL to plan: 70.05 Materials used: 11k planks, many beams, nails, ribbons, shafts, over 12k dirt Bridge height above the water: 20 dirts (fully passable by all boats except through bridge supports) Maximum water depth under bridge: Approx 220 dirts Digging skill required for deepest pillars: ~65 Intersecting bridges (currently): 1, to Saviour (the island) Big thanks to members of the Eastern-West Coast Alliance (names to come in further edit) for donating lots of dirt/sand, and helping to work on some of the bridges, as well as to everyone who has been supportive or encouraging. Donations of eyeballs requested and greatly appreciated for continued highway connections in the area. Picture taken in H12, Imperial Palace is in J12

In a philosophic / theoretical environment, yeah Kelebeth - this is true. There's an area of academic interest called "the body politic" that delves into things like this - and the quandaries it can cause. In a practical environment, it's a little easier to sort out... in American law there is a concept called "any reasonable person" - it is the idea that on any given subject, in any given context, it is possible to roughly determine how a person with an average lifestyle, and a normative sense of self, safety, and law, with an average level of reasoning capability, would act or conclude. Lawyers use this to decide liability, for example, and when giving instructions to a jury - "would any reasonable person have a shred of doubt about this?" Would "any reasonable person" conclude that discussing the current Wurm price for 1k stone brick is a political topic? That's how we can stop ourselves from sliding down a hypothetical slippery slope.

Simple, the injury is that there is no mobs to hunt and there haven't been for weeks. The insult is saying that it is OUR fault for not looking far enough when it's clear it is a bug that has been acknowledged by the devs. I'll of course grant that you only wanted to help and didn't mean it that way, but for many Harmony players, this situation is really severe and a huge let down. I've more or less quit playing till it is fixed e.g. That's why even well meaning comments are very likely to be received badly right now.

Maybe not, but sometimes it's necessary and essential. Would you really appreciate someone coming to a motorcycle forum and talking about their knitting or Pokemon battle accomplishments? Every platform has the right to decide what they do or don't allow on their platforms. Pornography, in particular, is often blanket banned from forums, even textual descriptions of pornographic activity. This is a form of censorship that is not only allowed, but actively encouraged by the majority of the posters. It's not the right time or place to discuss it, even if it's completely legal. Extend that to other things that have a high level of conflict - politics, especially. Is it a net positive or net negative to the platform? If it's a net negative, ask people to take it elsewhere. While some people do come to Wurm to vent about real life, some come to Wurm to give an escape from the real world for a few hours. The latest things done by the US Congress, or Boris Johnson's latest antics, or whether two countries are about to go to war with each other; none of these things are even remotely relevant to Wurm Online chat, even if people do feel strongly about them. And perhaps because feel strongly about them. And with all that said, I'm not actually in favor of banning political chat. I'd rather take the softer approach, and ask people to refrain personally and voluntarily. Have consideration for the fellow players who don't want to have to deal with it, and don't bring it up. Vent your political frustrations in a more appropriate discussion format. I've already got a Wurmian who I liked who soured my opinion of him with some rather... misogynist usage of words. I'd rather stay ignorant of others' political views, and keep them as friends. Or at least good acquaintances.

I'm a returner from a long almost 7 years absence in Wurm and nearly first thing I did I've asked for Tich, as I've had neighboring settlement next to Rockcliff - and this information... got me so sad. I dod not know Tich as good as I would like, we just chatted as neigbours, Tich helped me a lot with some tools, enchantments and many many maaaaany fish. Just a quiet Wurmian friend that while I was offline sometimes just for no reason visited my settlement, left me something good, even sometimes throw some coins to my deed upkeep... just like that. My respect for Tich is limitless... and maybe... this is to @Retrograde and other Wurm team members... as a humble idea - what about ascending Tich to rise and join the gods of Wurm... what do you think ? Yours sincerely Jaquari from Brotherland

Thanks for this overview. Your numbers inspired me to collect the number of players (at peak time, yesterday) as well, and I prepared a table and some diagrams, showing the number of deeds per square kilometer and typical number of players (at peak time) per square kilometer: The results are quite interesting. Surprisingly, the second oldest PvE server (Deliverance) is second in deed density, while only 6th in population density. Not surprising: the new servers definitely show the highest player density.

Over a week been working hard on this new place i setup, mostly terraforming and setting up my bungalow. Not long ago found a wandering aged golden horse, not far from where i live. Then found like three to four silvers and some copper coins in the grass. During at night i hanging out my place near the fireplace (forge) to keep warm and though about improving my tools and manage to make a rare longbow (willow), then decided to make a bow, another rare! Also noticed that i cant fit the longbow in the large chest, decided to make a bow rack, after i built it, then improve it some, booom a rare bow rack! Also made a rare shortbow too. Surprisely they all are willows and the bow rack is oakenwood. Guess this is what i get for being a elf Wont be long before the hollow event comes around the corner, gonna be creepy this year!

Hello fellow Xanadunians! By now, I'm sure you've all heard about Operation: Flatten Xanadu, and have questions about what it entails and how it will affect your gameplay, so I started this thread to provide some explanations in one place. You may have already noticed our team members in your local chat recently. Perhaps you've seen some server chat as we coordinate our efforts to flatten the server in the most efficient manner possible. Fear not. At the current state of the project, all we are doing is digging up all the dirt in your area and possibly -- depending on your elevation -- surface-mining the underlying rock and discarding the shards. In summary, and as the name implies, the goal of Operation: Flatten Xanadu is to reduce the entire Xanadu server to a single uniform layer exactly one dirt above sea level. We're going to destroy all the mountains, fill in all the lakes, discard all the rocks and most of the dirt, and be left with a perfectly flat, uniform landmass. Operation: Flatten Xanadu -- FAQ Q -- Why are you doing this? A -- We, the members of this project, feel quite strongly that Xanadu should be flat. Q -- What are the phases of this project? A -- Phase One is woodcutting. We will remove every single tree, bush and hedge from the server, in preparation for future phases. If we do it fast enough -- within about 36 hours -- we can prevent Xan's flora from respawning, very easily. Phase Two entails digging up every single unit of dirt on the server and immediately discarding it, leaving only exposed rock across the whole of Xanadu. In Phase Two/Three we begin to surface-mine every rock tile down until the landmass of Xan is all rock, one dirt below sea level. In Phase Three, we begin to import dirt from other servers in order to fill in Xan's lakes and cover the flat rock, bringing all tiles up to sea level. We estimate this will cost approximately 2,931,248 silver, which we will fund by selling shallow-water fish to players from other servers. Q -- How long do you think this will take? Based on initial estimates, we believe we can have Xanadu fully leveled to our specifications by early December 2020, assuming enough players get on board and commit the hours. Q -- How many players are currently involved? A -- Four. Q -- I own a deed on Xan, how will this affect me? A -- If you've always wanted to live on an island, or if you're a rice farmer, this is awesome news! If you're not, it's probably not going to end well for you.. Q -- Why are you doing this again? We, the members of this project, feel quite strongly that Xanadu should be flat.

Not so good, and it would be more work than keeping the plains that exist clear in the first place. My opinion, anyway...
