I used to love doing this as a kid. I'm not sure how feasible it is from a technical standpoint but i'd love to catch fireflies and put them in jars.

I get that in a game certain mechanics are arbitrary but there are some glaring inconsistencies in some crafting tools/objects. Spindle and Spinning Wheel: The spindle/cotton and spinning wheel/wool demarcation is to my mind silly. The same natural fibres can be spun on both, and in fact a spindle is also a component of a spinning wheel (IRL). It is made more silly by the fact that someone with the means to farm a goodly amount of cotton would likely have used a wheel, whereas even nomads with livestock used spindles for animal hair yarn. I think either tool should be usable with either resource, but the spinning wheel should produce more/faster and maybe even better quality. Note that both string of cloth and wool yarn can be used in the same floor loom. EDIT: New section Floor Loom and [New]Hand Loom (or backstrap loom, or some other basic loom). Like the spindle and spinning wheel for a step up in production volume and QL, same for looms. A basic loom produces square pieces of cloth at a slower pace and lower/more variable quality while a floor loom produces at a faster pace and better/more consistent quality. (end new section) Large Anvil and Small Anvil: There are a couple of things here that have always bugged me a bit. Firstly is the method of use - a large anvil can ONLY be used while on the floor (or some other object) while the small anvil can ONLY be use in-hand. It's an ANVIL! You never hit anything with the anvil (unless you are the roadrunner or Wile E. Coyote). Both anvils should be on-the-ground use only. (Struck out - as of 28/10/2021 small anvils can be used on the floor) Secondly is the fact that small and large anvils are treated more like fine and coarse anvils, which just isn't so. The large anvil is depicted like a typical blacksmith's anvil, capable of both coarse and fine work. The small anvil should really be a BASIC anvil, able to produce some basic materials (its graphic is very much a "blunt object" style) while the Large Anvil should be able to make pretty much any smithied product. What about fine jewelry, I hear you ask. "What about fine jewelry?". I am glad you asked. The large anvil appears in inventory like it has storage capacity or a mount point. That right there could be a hardy hole, for placing a hardy-tool for jewelry or some other specific sub-skill, or tools for nail and rivet making etc. Apply some QL or time penalty for the Large Anvil making stull that could be made with the small anvil (to reflect that more care must be taken). That way the small anvil is still useful (especially for beginners and especially for travelling) but a Large Anvil is itself the basis of good smithy. Actually, if the small could be used on the ground, it wouldn't matter so much if the large can make that stuff, as you can lay out your smithy with both and use them as needed. Non-rackable tools: A bit of a bugbear for me because I like to keep my materials in one place, tools in one place and other objects in one place so I don't have to go looking for them. Most tools can be racked, but some, for example the file and the grooming brush cannot, so have to be stored in a chest or something. I got so sick of trying to remember which large chest has them that I have made multiples and scattered them into several chests just to shorten the search. Realistically, the rack has pegs so anything too small to hang across two pegs would have either a hole or a lanyard so could be hung on the rack. I wouldn't even mind adding a couple of hooks to the rack and be done with it, but a tool rack (okay, weapon rack, but it has more tools than weapons) should be able to hold pretty much any tool that can be carried in inventory. Knives: I don't think there is any chance of getting this fixed, but a knife is a knife. Heck even a sword can function as a knife. I like that the butchering knife gives better butchering results than using a shovel (or, <shudder> butchering with a pickaxe). The same should apply for other blades, though. Chopping veges, best done with the cutlery knife, but why couldn't a hatchet chop a head of cabbage? Why couldn't a [poor quality] shaft be carved with a short sword? Cutting sprouts should be entirely possible with any sharp blade, and particularly should be possible with the carving knife. The Shovel: It's not. It's a spade. You don't dig with a shovel, you shovel with it. You can shovel with a spade, but digging with a shovel is almost impossible. (And for those who want to say a shovel has a point and a spade is flat - buy a pack of cards). English only dies if we let it.

no -1 no -1 no -1 ty, play the game a bit.. learn how it works.. suggest non nonsense ideas later. pottery is already how you suggest.. clearly pointing you're too new and suggesting things you have no clue about. armor idea is trash, rather go play minecraft than this ###### stinks in thought mode.. imagine it as content.. if you think weaponsmithing is something you can compete with... at 50 skill to make tons of 50ql weapons for new players... believe me.. in few minutes a well skilled player with right tools can make in times more than what you can create at ql50 in hours; skill matters, 'get gud kid'; mainly this idea will make fs grind suck as your gains depend on the damage done.. and with a toothpick.. you do ~nothing.. dragging your grind with month(s)... really unfun content change.. You or any other noob can skill to 70 or 90 in a matter of a week or bit over... with right time spent in the game to grind it.. right enchanted tools and amount of sleep powder, and that's far less than you'd imagine; anyone can do it, if you know how gains scale, ask in ca-help, ask in gl, ask 1-2-3-4-5 skilled players, gather some tips and go for it. We all learn and the so hated 90/+ accounts didn't just get there overnight.. most did spend months to get the skill, only a few actually do the speed grinds in a week or 2-3.. anything besides WS .. you can grind quite fast to 90 #ydoibotheransweringtotheseposts

We'd need jars, and so we'd need glasswork added to the game. Hope that is brought to Wurm, one day.

The basic gist is this, if you have 2 accounts or more, you can link them under a "MAIN" profile. Under that profile, with the connected accounts you can shift marks to different accounts(SAME CLUSTER ONLY). There could be a 24 or 48 hour cooldown on transfers of marks, and it could only be executed with linked accounts. The connected accounts must me associated for at least 1 week before any marks can be transferred. You must verify using some sort of authentication token like authy as well as via an e-mail sent to the originating or current email account on file(email must have been established for at least 2-4 weeks). Maybe charge a fee for the transfer or reduce the total marks that get transferred as a fee, like 5% or something.

I had a similar experience in my early travels. Found one on Indy, not even hidden in a building, just a trader fenced in behind a locked gate right there next to the deed token. It was the first trader I had seen in-game away from Haven's Landing. Later, on moving to Release, there was another one in a 1x1 shed, but not locked (or maybe alliance perms let me in). It was only much later that I heard about this practice of sucking the life out of the game.

https://gyazo.com/8f7ad1fc02f684e7142ef1feafcd612b So this picture is a direct side by side comparison of Scythes and Halberds. Of course the Halberd bonus against charging opponents isn't even shown, and even without it's a significantly better weapon. No skill penalty, better parry, longer reach, the only downside is a slightly lower crit chance. However the latest round of updates has given the ability to make a very flavorful buff to Scythes. For those who remember the days before statuettes Scythes were the channeling object of Libila in the days of old, and are still prominently featured in most depictions of her. With the new spell "Essence Drain" there is now a spell available to her priests that drains health. I suggest giving scythes a benefit that when they have Essence Drain cast on they have a bonus to the quantity of health stolen. Pure RP flavor, but come on, it would be awesome, and it wouldn't make them OP in any way unless you way overdid the bonus. Just less trash.

We are now basically ready to open up to the public! Harmony Bay Market is a deed just East of Harmony Bay (literally the next tile after perimeter's end) We are not looking for villagers, but for traders that want to have a place to set up their merchants! We offer 2 options, both are 100% free, neither of those require you to be a villager, you can have your own deed or belong to any other village. 1) Market stalls - if you don't have much stuff to sell, you can ask to us for a spot in a market stall, or maybe even 2 of them. 2) 2x2 Buildings - Our 2x2 buildings provide space for up to 4 merchants(at least 2 , please), and have an upper floor where you will have a bed and other furniture(on request, until we make them all), we can Rename it as you please and we will give you structure's permissions,so that you can also do other stuff in your house. Summoning with a priest is also often an option if you live far and don't want to travel all the way to here. The deed is currently still a work in progress, but we can already offer several spots, and it doesn't require too long to add even new ones!. What we will offer in the future: - A temple with all the altars - A structure to provide food for everyone - Maybe sermons if someone is willing to run them - Decorations and stuff - Please note that this is not intended as a "village experience" We will not give citizenship or free tools, we might appreciate help in continuing to build it up, but we'll need to discuss it first, and we will not give deed's permissions for most things - Please remember that merchant contracts are a strictly personal item, we couldn't lend them even if we wanted, so you'll have to personally buy all the merchants contracts, and they will stay yours, we can in no way take possession of your merchants or items even if you stop playing. Here follow a few pics of the deed at its current state and a deedplanner 2D and 3D plant of the finished project: Deedplanner finished idea:

Seems like it is really impossible to find free wildhorses on Harmony. Other players have some on their deeds for own using, but as a new player it is not possible to find any wild horses on the server. Would be great to higher the spawnrate or smth...

Stonemasons have several types of stones to build their homes, why are wooden walls so limited? After all, even a cart or a barrel has a different texture depending on the wood used. Houses made of various board colors would look great.

The issue with horse colors is that they're traits, and are weighted. You might have a black silver male and a black silver female breed a black silver foal - however the new traits are lowest in the order so if by some chance it rolls something like black or gold as well, it will have both color traits black and black silver or gold and black silver, but since black or gold are higher priority traits, the horse will be black or gold despite having that black silver trait. Before someone goes trigger happy removing the chance of multiple color traits - its the only way you can "down" breed a rarer color (it rolls the rarer color but fails the dominant one) A grey horse is the absence of any color trait, so a grey foal from 2 black silver parents just means you were likely to have a black silver foal but failed

Sorry for the late replies, been working on a project for work that's been taking most of my time. For the any tool, that's where the service section will come into play, you'll be able to list the service you offer, i.e making any tool' Yeah I can see what i can do with auto filling, I can probably add those details on the account profile level so one you pick a server it will auto fill pickup location if selected Not every item has been added yet or materials, I add them once someone lets me know it's missing! As for enchantments, I was working on a section where you can list what the enchants are but haven't finished it yet Great idea and I can add that as an alternative to what I've been working on here and there. The plan is to be able to "request" an item right off the site which would send a notification to the seller. Yup it's still in development phase, was hoping to have it done a couple of weeks ago but got busy with IRK work project. I will have more free time this upcoming weekend so hoping to get it complete then.

No, there isn't. If such way existed, vet players would spam those in such quantities that new accounts still wouldn't be able to compete. Shorter actions and higher creation quality plus improving to mid-level quality taking 4-5 actions on vet accounts makes creation of such items a breeze. Current system rewards you for your hard work. Economy can't be fixed because there are only 138 skills in the game, about 20 of them producing anything at all. There are thousands of players using the same 20 skills, producing the same items. The higher your skills the easier it gets to produce the same item so new account versus yours stands no chance to make anything, of any quality faster than you are. This is the case in most games and real life as well. Unless you're coming in to the market backed by huge investment, you have to compete with the whales who rule that market for years. Any new player expecting anything else, in any game, is delusional.

All were above ground. None of them were hitched. They are in a free range pen that is 3x10 with a Fo altar located inside the pen. Animal husbandry is 44 so I can see all "bad traits" listed. All animals had 3 or less "total" stats, so no "hidden traits. The only horses in the pen were ones that had ONE bad trait each. All traits remained after casting. A few cows had bad traits, those are still there as well. I keep records of horses and traits. Edited to add much like the other locations it failed for, we are also located in the south.

Remove the requirement to have your mouse pointer hover over some close by rock surface. Make it just like digging. You stand in a spot and click "mine" hot key and you mine. Currently the mouse pointer does nothing to determine exactly where you mine on the surface, so why have it?

I know that Retro has said that the two are not directly or simply related, but I have definitely stopped finding rare coins while all this has been going on. I specifically noticed this because I had decided I would actually collect a set of rare coins - since making that decision I found 1 rare coin and then it dried up. Suddenly with the MOI I am getting rare branches and rare potatos, I even have supreme cumin, but no coins. Maybe I am just exceedingly unlucky, but previously it was much more common to get a rare coin than forage/botanize a rare object and when it was the object that was rare I would find the coffers were empty if I tried to offload my low QL foragings.

Yes, sorry. I don't have one, and have never had one; easy to get them confused. It reminds me of one of my earlier sessions in Wurm. I was chatting with a neighbor when we saw, "Deed So-and-So has Disbanded." He said, "Hey, that's just up the hill from me. Want to go check it out?" So we did. The deed was twice the size of anything I'd build, lots of little landings for different buildings. Got some gems out of a coffin (?!?), some veggies out of a FSB. Most of the actual buildings were long-since dusted. There was exactly one building left, set off to the side, a little 1x1 jobby inside a gated enclosure. Inside that still-intact building was the trader, hidden away from anyone's use but his own. That confused me; I couldn't see the purpose of having a Trader if you weren't trying to sell finished products, and he told me about the whole idea of coffer draining. *shrug* People do what people do, and not everything has to make sense to everyone.

Hosting the House Of Debois sermon group has been a unique and fun experience. All attendees have been kind and some have even gone beyond that in contributing a great deal to the group. I am thankful for all attendees, however I plan on moving on. On October 25th I plan to step down from hosting the House Of Debois sermon circle. If anyone in particular, preferably an attendee, wishes to take control I am open to work that out. As of right now, there is not a new upcoming host. If a new host is not found the House Of Debois sermon group will close October 25th. Anyone is welcome to continue gathering there, however I will likely not be around to host the sermon circle. This has been said in advance in the first paragraph of the original forum post. Thanks again everyone who has attended and/or donated!

The best solution for this is to make it so you DON'T degenerate favor while casting. This will negate the drawback for it's intended use of channel grinding while still keeping it useless for building up favor for PVP encounters.
  41. 1 point
the passive drain for favor is way too much, can it be made so it ticks once every min with a higher cost? loosing that much faith for every time you fill up and do a cast is really bad. also it seems you really have to be ready on for casting, as the bar refills way too fast and then goes back to wasting favor by the time you cast again.. really broken implementation of the idea you guys have managed to do...

Google Document: Wurm Combat Explained From the Preface: This is an in-depth walkthrough of a single swing calculation for the combat system in Wurm. It’s meant to serve as a guide for those looking to understand the intricacies of combat. This will not tell you what the best weapon is, what armour to wear, or even how to fight an opponent optimally. It will simply tell you the mechanics at play, how they interact, and to what degree they affect the outcome. Edit: I forgot some supporting materials that may be of use. Wurm Data - Spreadsheet that contains weapon stats and creature stats. These were datamined from WU in 2016, but I think I've updated those two sheets (which are relevant to this document) to the latest information. Armour Evaluation - Spreadsheet that contains a full evaluation of armours including base DR, glance rates, damage effectiveness, and material modifiers. These were datamined from WU in 2018 and should be mostly up to date.

If you have a furnace you can also clean it to get ash. Basically if you are using a forge, kiln, fireplace or oven you are already creating ash. I don't really have the patience for making piles much, myself, but will likely start to do it once the rest of my to do list is shortened, or at least ceases to lengthen. However, ash is pretty easy to get.

OP has a section about priest balancing and spells, this is a suggestion relating that topic. This change would also have to affect archery too. Also agree timers for equipping and unequiping sounds horrible which i think it should be an action cancel. There's no real point to the debuff if you can negate it entirely. As mentioned before, you can unequip and re-equip within a second so you'd need to be already fighting the caster to make use of that "vulnerable to damage" opportunity which anyone with half a brain would just not take the armor off. The whole point is, if you want to prevent the casting penalty, you need to be unarmoured for the whole cast duration, or you wear the lighter armor which doesn't provide the penalty. Oblivion suggested some spells are not covered under the penalty, if thats the case that should be amended too. I also agree flat failure rate sucks and difficulty scaling is better. However the fact that the 30 second hurting status is more valuable than the <1 damage wound, I'm ok with the flat failure penalty. Edit: i just realised you can get a 30% bonus for casting without armor. That's a potential 60% difference to spell casts. Of course you shouldn't be able to just "negate the debuff and activate the spell buff" like that.

My neighbor spotted and roped a young female unowned bison quite far from his deed only to get himself killed and respawning back at his deed. So sad for him, but that was the first unowned bison that I have heard of spotted on Harmony since the second week. Maybe there is some hope. Also, I am seeing deeds that have not been tended to for weeks with horses, bison and cattle locked up and in some cases a good horse lays dead... My hope is that as things continue to thin out perhaps we all can find some free horses and such. Also hate seeing bulls hitched to wagons in the same spot for weeks on end just waiting to die.

I can understand your desire to improve the game mechanics for new players, however, pottery is surely one of the skills where the use of hands as a tool is absolutely needed in real life to mould and shape and not just to hold an implement. I feel that this should be understood and expected as such by most people? I think it is important not to change things unless there is a glaring reason to do so and I am afraid I do not see one here..
