The Steam Wurm Online page says Wurm is Free to Play but I've seen complaints saying this is misleading and doesn't mention about needing a subscription to progress past 20 skill cap. I had a look at other Free to Play games on Steam that also use subscriptions. One is Star Wars - The Old Republic which is listed as Free to Play but underneath the Play Game button you can clearly see it says "Optional Subscription" and gives the option to purchase premium time and game coins right there. Showing this on the Wurm page would make it clearer that Wurm has a subscription model and hopefully reduce complaints.

I could be wrong... but it seems to be that the basis for this request is because there's some feeling of competition with other players. This is a little confusing to me - I understand that having a player run in game economy implies a certain level of competition for customers.... but I never got the feeling, overall, that Wurm Online was a competitive-focused game (unless you opt into PVP maybe). It's like how we occasionally see forums posts that are motivated by some obscure feeling that there is a way to "win" at Wurm - and any thing that other players do equates to an "unfair advantage" - or something you need to keep pace with. ... Keep pace - so you can what, exactly? Get to the end game at the same time as other people? Be raid-ready for the current tier? Get a server first in a game that's been online for over a decade? Wurm isn't that kind of game.

During my regular playtime in Project Gorgon, they had an event/buffs every weekend from Friday night till Monday morning. It would be anything at random, sometimes useful sometimes whatever. Walking faster, crafting xp, more hides dropping, flying for examples. I think that would be a fun thing to implement to Wurm, it would require not as much effort compared to organising big events. It would work as a continuation from the 30% chance to gain an affinity, which is great and has people doing things they wouldn't normally do I imagine. You could have a lot of fun with it and I think it would boost numbers on weekends giving peeps something to look forward too and check out. Ive seen Enkis and devs funny imaginations, this would be a good add.

In the past, first time purchases of premium gave players a referral. This referral allowed a player to nominate someone to receive 20 days premium time or 3 silver. When we reworked premium prices, we added the special first time premium packages and removed the referrals as we felt the cheaper prices gave better value than a referral. By a mistake in our shop code, Steam-purchased first time offers gave players a referral and 2s extra to the actual offer. While it was never intended, we see that inconsistent shop offers can be misleading and players can follow the word-of-mouth in deciding what to spend their money on - for that reason, shortly after the server restart today we are granting 20 days of premium + 2 silvers to all accounts that have not received the referral when the same Steam Store purchase offers gave it away. Those are accounts that have purchased the starter packages from our website in the time since the Steam release until now. Referrals are with this update no longer given away for any shop offer, as per the original intention since the latest shop changes. Regards, The Wurm team.

Hey guys, I'll be streaming for the first time in my life tonight! I'm really excited, even if I doubt many, if anyone, will watch. I'll be in voice and streaming my beginnings on Melody in this first stream called "Melody's Beginnings". The stream starts at 7PM my time, that's - as in the timer below - an hour and 10 minutes from the time of posting, but check the attached timer for the exact time. I'll be going live some minutes before that with a countdown and then on a brand new character who's still in the tutorial area! NEWEST STREAM STARTING IN: My Twitch can be found here: https://www.twitch.tv/alicejblack ================== Original Event: My Twitch can be found here: https://www.twitch.tv/alicejblack YouTube Version: Backseat gaming encouraged If someone wants to tell me how to play, do it :3

another daydreamer... Dude.. a lesson of maths here.. plate set is about 21kg just to create (sorry cant remember exact weight). that 21kg is 53 lumps of moonmetal (each lump is 0.4kg). 1 lump is 3000 marks so that totals to 159k marks just to create a set of what? 5ql? now you telling me ppl just bought themselves 3 years worth of prem time just to make armour set? have you ever tried to imp with moonmetal? if not i tell you, those lumps fly by as fast as nothing else. a skilled platesmith will dump another 20kg just to improve that set to 80ql or so. so thats what? another 3 years premium to buy in marks? So we have 6 years of premium spent already on a set noone has the skill to imp it without wasting moonmetal in silly amounts. but yeah i really "get" you, once again, those lucky dudes who got those unobtainable items are spanking those uniques left and right hard if not harder than i would spank some ###### i spent 600 quid on 🤣🙄🤣

For what it's worth, if you're looking for coastal space on Harmony, the far NE coast is pretty unpopulated, as are some areas on the SSW coast and SE corner. There's loads of undeeded area in the inland areas, particularly the central landmass. On Melody, the East and SW coasts are less populated, and again, the main interior areas have loads of space.

I have the impression of somebody green with envy if anyone has the least advantage, or has deeply misunderstood the game, if not of gaming altogether. There are competitive games, where an even playing field indeed matters, but that ist not Wurm, at least not Wurm PvE. As to "massive advantages", those with much disposable time are the most advantageous and "rich" in Wurm as in every game, no money can make up for. Oh my, all these "wealthy" students, pensionists, jobless, disabled .. When there are people with large building projects, but only a few hours free every day, and not much more during the weekends, but a good income, it is good and nice when they spend money for silver and boost the economy by buying bulk, rares, and other nice items for their ingame home. That is perfectly win-win. When someone buys SP, the ones selling SP profit as well, as does the whole economy. What the damn loses anyone when somebody reaches a level earlier?

Are people saying the area where they are working is inviolate or is that the way it is being interpreted? Are they planning to only "tent-deed" as you call it or are they working on getting some skills behind them before going premium? Or perhaps working on building up a little silver before committing it to deed upkeep? Basically you seem to be unhappy with crowding, which is a natural result of a popular server launch, and the fact that people are setting up nearby. I am not sure if that is actually a problem at this stage. If by "tent deeding" you mean pitching a tent to keep stuff secure while doing some work that isn't on a paid-for deed, then yes that is indeed part and parcel of free play; as it should be.

Why is it such a bad thing? i have a priest of each and that purely comes down to this 1 failed vyn priest that i keep forgetting to grind so i still buy all my woa and coc tools(i can make 90 cast with a bit of effort and 90 ql im just lazy) 1 mag priest i have purely for mining projects and casting strongwall to close holes in my mountain that i might accidently make without having to wait for ages for someone to bring their mag alt over 1 fo priest that i use to go hunting with and do genesis with for my own horses(i dont sell horses) Wurm is a game about being able to do what you want with the freedom given to you(and within rules) why limit such a part of the game? oh and all 3 have been or are currently majors of deeds thus help the kings coffers to be filled up with silver A single toon server would just result in the same the current new servers have which is 99% of players are doing their own thing with a few people working as a group racing to get skills up high but once that initial rush is over all those people will branch out and do every other skill they know how to grind and it will result in 1 or 2 of them going priest because they will play the new servers not as actively(more afk style of play while playing on their mains) resulting in a village of crafters that is self sustaining and racking in 50s+ a week easy Wurm is designed to be played either solo(and with alts to speed it up) or with a village and villages will always stay ahead even if you make a solo toon prem only server oh and prem only servers does not stop alt spam we will and have in the past paid for prem on alts that we dont do much with
  12. 3 points
Mass alts are the current cancer now that RMT has been removed. Sure 1-2 alts isn't too bad but anything more is. When you have people using 5+ alts to raise different skills on each, or an alt for all 4 priests, it just ruins the community and MMO aspect of the game.

premium purchases are logged, people unable to connect aren't. it sucks but theres no way to know who was unable to connect and if you only refund those who complained on the forums thats only helping a vocal minority of players with the issue, and if you refund those who complained on the forums but those who didnt get nothing coz you cant verify they were effected that's also not gonna be equal.

My first "deed" was a 5x5 hedged area that I lucked upon ... had a forge and a bed!!!! Still took me a couple of days to find iron near my spot that wasn't a death trap to access. And a bit over a week to realize that that was NOT "my deed" at all and that "deeding" involved a process (buying the deed paper back then) and certain mechanics. If in that first couple of days someone had expelled me with a leeter-than-thou "deed it or lose it", odds are 50-50 regarding whether i'd have found a new spot or a new game altogether. Time to shine, Wurm community. Or rather, time to decide: - Be decent about it, if you REALLY want the spot, talk to the newbie first. Or alternatively, deed over it, but help the guy find an equally good spot. Or alternatively, be damn cool about it and let the newbie hang around 'til it can cart up and explore more safely. Edit: Either way, a quick 2-minute standard "Why deeding is beneficial" explanation is definitely worth doing. OR - Be the elite! Pour all your elite scorn upon the non-elite scum who were not born knowing everything about Wurm, expel their lowly hides from the lands of the elite! Then start another thread about how Wurm is dying and the population is so low and spread thin that it feels like a one player game.

Weight of the food piece plays a role in how quickly it reduces / removes hunger. Try combining a bunch of grass and feeding it that instead of small pieces. Will save you some clicking.
  17. 2 points
A single blade of grass has almost no nutritional value. Are you leaving the animals on packed earth and dirt until they are nearly starving? If so you need to feed them better than a single blade of grass one piece at a time. Imagine doing that to a real horse. Put them someplace where they can graze on their own, use the grass only to "top off" an otherwise well fed animal. Or, combine the grass into 3.20 kg units (64 pieces combined) and feed them those instead. Grass is still really low nutritional value, so it might take a lot. Two cabbages, or maybe oats, is better but if it is not feeding the animal, either it is starving or it has the "Constantly Hungry" trait and you need more AH to see that (Unlikely on Defiance unless the animals there age up really fast)

In a genuine sandbox game that has a highly co-operative community "even playing field" is a meaningless construct. Is someone more advanced than you? Great. They are a source of advice and help of all sorts. Someone less advanced than you is an opportunity to share wisdom and offload some of the crap that is now useless to you but valuable to them. Those with alts build the highways, bridges and guard-towers that benefit everyone. I am not about to gripe that they get to do that,

Error code 35 was mostly an issue with user devices, and we worked closely with getting it addressed. Compensation for the hectic week will be discussed but it will not be in awarding sleep powder. Also for the record sleep powder is 100%, not 10%, meaning every three hours and twenty minutes equals one hour sleep powder.

What a lot of people tend to do is make a 1 tile building that is a few tiles high, and then place a Marble Pillar near the top as they are visible from many tiles away compared to most other light sources. https://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Marble_brazier_pillar

Also do not forget if you deed over someone's "freefolk homestead", you might end up not only antagonizing them (they'll probably leave the area anyway), but may also end up with permanently hostile neighbors if they were friends with or simply feel bad for their evicted neighbor, who they may have grown to know and like while working side by side. Although I imagine having neighbors who intensely dislike you, and will be hostile towards everything you do, may not be that big of an issue for some people. Perhaps it has always happened everywhere they go, and simply does not bother them in the least. Like it or not, "tent deeders" are a part of the community, and as such what happens to them will color many other people's impressions and reactions, so nothing is really consequence free no matter one's own philosophy on the matter. The law of course will always be on the side of people who have paid for a legally protected deed. But simply following laws does not automatically make you an upstanding citizen. There is a major difference obviously between playing on a PVE or a PVP server. We already get a popup window if we start a building on land we have not deeded, but i think another popup window for placing tents as Atazs suggests may not be a bad idea either, much like the one for dropping items ("theft warning").

I got the impression that it was less that they wanted that specific spot, then that they were against F2P players having an undeeded homestead. The "official" stance to my understanding is, unpaid homesteads are allowed but they are risky because another person could deed over your work. Is that person deeding over an a-hole? Probably if he deeds there ONLY because he is upset about a free player building there, and wouldn't have deeded there except to "teach them a lesson". It's a little jerky but it is legal to deed over them. "Deed It Or Lose It" is the wurm mantra. Remember, some of them may be people not sure yet whether to invest money into the game, especially with lag, It may be they are giving it a month free and then deciding. Or ... it may be that they lost their job due to coronavirus, have an eviction notice on their IRL apartment, had their grandfather die of COVID-19 in the past month, and being able to play Wurm for free is the only bright spot in their life right now. We really don't know anything about other people's circumstances. Remember, even F2P players "add to the game" simply by being here. Other players -- paying or not -- are the best "free" content in the game. They cost developers almost nothing and they keep other players here who CAN and WILL spend money as long as the game has an active and happy playerbase. Free to play players are an integral part of the community. Deliberately chasing them all away as "damn freeloaders" only puts Wurm right back into a bad state of game, where people are leaving because people are leaving, and the Steam launch was in fact advertised as a "free to play' game, not as a "free limited trial" game.

Low quality mine doors can decay fast, I suggest every 2-3 days checking it and gradually imping it up with planks as your skill and mats start getting better. Unlike a stone mine door, you can gradually work on the door even after it is installed, to gradually make it better and stronger. It gets tricky "examining" a door in place, you sometimes have to stand kinda off to one side to get info on it.

There is a WU server of almost every flavour. I would recommend rather than setting up your own, trying out some of those and see which fits, at least for a start. Wurd of warning, though, you will find some of the dynamics and mechanics SOoo good that their lack in WO will be a frustration. Be prepared for that. I have not and likely will not abandon my first WO character (and will probably invest time in my second on the new servers), but I am also semi-active on 2 WU servers, inactive on 2 others and had a couple disappear out from under me. Everyone will have their preferences, but my 2 preferred servers are Sklotopia and Terra Australis. Both are well balanced, and the second is a bit specific for us antipodeans. Check the recruiting threads in the WU subforum for some info about the various servers.

It's like a store offering a special rebate to customers who come in on Fridays but then half the stores across the country are closed and not accessible to people on Fridays. Now with being told the referral fix is only available to those who were shorted after the Steam release.. I don't envy staff right now and certainly attempts are being made to iron stuff out, but on this side, it sucks, and for many of us, we are falling through the cracks via some rigid restrictions. This should be a happy and festive time and definitely not one to hold a stiff upper lip toward loyal patrons when things go wrong. Those who are happy with the various give-backs of late are those who have been able to take advantage. It doesn't seem fair that all affected can't because of something or another. Can't take advantage of the bonus skillgain period because game always going down when real life allows entry. Can't get referral rebate now because I made the purchase shortly before the Steam rollout and not after. What are we protecting by being so rigid right now? Gumbo, I'm sorry, it sounds like you got it even worse than some of us. The things you love the most are the things that can hurt the most 🤕

As has been said already, it's worth at least trying to talk to the tent owner, especially if there's evidence that they've been there a while (pen, fields, terraforming, etc). Although the servers can sometimes feel a bit crowded, there is plenty of space on all of them, so just go a little further before you drop your deed, and a bit of playing nice and not ruining someone else's experience really doesn't cost you anything.

A solution would be to have a window pop up when you drop your tent warning you about claiming lands with tents, similiar to how you are warned about thievery when you drop an item for the first time. This warns them beforehand, so people shouldn't feel bad deeding over their tents.
