Four years ago, when the old highway rules were removed and the new Cats Eyes Highway rule came in... .... the owner of Soylent Green refused to allow Cats Eyes through his deed and promptly ripped up Great South Mountain Road where it passed through his deed of Soylent Green. ... and out to about 50 tiles to either side north south. So some community minded folks came up and surface mined in a by pass on the west side so that a Cat Eyes link to the southern part of Great South Mountain Road could be put in. Recently Soylent Green went down due to expired Upkeep and some folks approached me and others about restoring Great South Mountain Road. That work is now completed and to make the road safer it also has three Guard Towers now providing protection from the junction with the West Coast Hwy thru to the colossus at the Nightmare at the top of the hill south of Soylent Green. Here are some screenies of the work. http://prntscr.com/totynn New Guard Twr at the junction of GSMR and West Coast Hwy http://prntscr.com/totuni Great South Mtn Road direct Cats Eyes run installed http://prntscr.com/tou10j The 2nd Guard Tower going in north of the old Soylent Green site http://prntscr.com/tou09m Leveling up some 285 dirts the stand for the 3rd GT http://prntscr.com/totu4n the 3rd Guard Twr going in south of the old Soylent Green site http://prntscr.com/totv46 3rd Guard Tower Completed Enjoy! There is a SIGNFICANT increase in foul/vulgar local chats, and a lot of new players wandering around asking in local what to do. A staff member around would greatly help the new "kids" (based on local chat, I'm guessing the new player median age is 14). CAHelp is great, but right now there is only one person there, and it has been overwhelming. It would go a long way to saving the reputation of the game.

This is specifically designed to be a tutorial for NEW players to Wurm Online. With the new release on Steam, I've seen a major need for a new player guide for some really important basic stuff that the tutorial really doesn't cover fully. Or should be elaborated on to help give people a slightly better understanding. Hopefully this succeeds in address this - at-least a little. Please share with any new players who you find struggling, especially in the actual tutorial (as I've witnessed in game)

We’re coming up to 48 hours into the launch on Steam, and the response has been mind-blowing! We appreciate you all being patient with the lag issues, and this update includes several fixes for lag as well as for some crashes and players getting stuck. We’ll be continuing to monitor the server and will keep you updated if we encounter any further issues! Improvements were made to the server code to optimize and mitigate lag significantly An issue with some characters not being able to transfer to/from Defiance should be resolved Relogging should no longer show winter visuals You can no longer gain skills during the tutorial Fight skill required to capture battlecamps on Defiance to 20 Addressed multiple issues causing crashes

All the community tried to help on CA_HELP, even very new players, so all of them deserve acknowledgements, not only "vets".

I am also seriously impressed at how awesome and helpful our little community has been these past few days. I haven't played WO since 2014ish and was raring to go when Harmony opened. It has not been a disappointment! Many kudos to the staff as well, for working so hard to make this launch as smooth as they can.

Hi Kelody, I'm sorry you feel that way about the Albia roads map of Independence, however, I feel obliged to correct you on your statistics. The Albia Map database of Indy encompasses the years 2013 to 2020 inclusive. Of the 559 deeds that are currently active on Independence (according to our records based on the Twitter feed) there are as follows: 199 deeds who's mayors have requested that they be put on the map. That is 35% of all deeds. Of these 199.. 78 of those 199 deeds are coastal deeds (including inland waterways). 15 of the on map deeds have very limited or no road access to them. 106 remaining are all inland deeds accessible by road or hwy. Of the remaining 360 "off map" deeds.. The 186 deeds that we have discovered during our mapping expeditions have been left "off map" to abide by wishes of mayors to not be listed and to conserve the privacy of those who we have had no contact with. That is another 33% of all deeds. Approximately 108 of these "off map" deeds not listed on the map are coastal deeds (including inland waterways). 36 of these are way off the beaten track and require an inquisitive mind to locate. That leaves 174 deeds (approximately) that we have not located and which may at some point have gone through a name change (not recorded in Twitter history) and have since been disbanded. That is 31% of all deeds ignoring those who have name changed and been disbanded. So . . . . in fact there are 35% of all active deeds shown on the Indy map. Twenty-four hours ago, we launched Harmony and Defiance. Over this time, thousands of players have flooded in to explore the world of Wurm smashing our record with over 2000 concurrent users, and we’re thrilled to see this! While we have dealt with the login issues and addressed the majority of crashes and error messages and working on resolving a few more crashes as we go, this amount of players has led to some problems with Harmony encountering some lag. To address this, we’re announcing the launch of a second PvE server, Melody! Melody is a smaller server, only 8kmx8km (64 sq km) but will be a new fresh piece of land to explore. It will be accessible from both the tutorial server and Harmony via one-way portal and able to be sailed to from the south coast. We’ll be launching this server within the next few hours, so hold on tight!

I agree also. We need the ability to reduce scale to 70% at a minimum. Basically, we need whatever would produce the same scale text and vertical spacing inside container windows (length & width) as the old UI. Crafting is a royal PITA with the new UI. To avoid having to scroll up and down constantly the new widows have to extend from the top of the screen to the bottom and the width problem is even worse. With the old UI I can have my inventory and 3 container windows open side by side (4 if I'm not using the crafting window) with no overlap and still be able to to see full descriptions and data of the items in them. With the new one I'm lucky to be able to keep my inventory and 1 window open because of the widths required to see just the contents.

Alrighty. I'm going to try and lay all this out there so someone out there can get a picture of what I've been dealing with. Maybe it will help. I know that a LOT has been going on for the Wurm team since the Steam launch yesterday. It has been crazy busy, and a great moment in Wurm history despite the bottlenecks and various log in issues that have arisen. I know you guys are busy chasing down fires and doing your best to move things along and adjust as smoothly as possible for the new players experiencing Wurm for the first time. There seems to be an issue for a portion of the non Steam player base that is having a serious issue trying to log in. I'm one of them. I can't get my launcher to come up at all, and it has been that way since shortly after the Steam launch. For the record, I am using Windows 10, 64bit version. I do not have Steam and am only attempting to log into the game using the WO client I've used since I started the game over three years ago. Here is a simplified account of what I've experienced over the last two days: Like many, when logging into the game around the time of the launch, I could not get my client to load. I was under the assumption that there was a "queue" that I needed to wait in and eventually I'd get on. This seemed to be the case even though I was not logging into the new servers. I never got the chance to try- my client never loaded to that point. It just sat there until I got the "Error Code 35" or "Error Code 28" message and then the client would close out. That went on for much of yesterday and a good portion of this afternoon with no change. I was told earlier this evening that I needed to uninstall Wurm and reinstall it. Ok. Did that. Now I get the following: When the client tries to load, I no longer get the Error Code XX message any more. The game sits at the Wurm logo for a very long time: If I click on it after five minuets or so, this happens: If I try to restore the program, the client goes to the launching wurm online box: It freezes here and never moves on, and never shows progress. I have to open Task Manager to close it out. After I do that and try relaunching the client, I get this: To fix that and get it to try and run again, I have to uninstall Wurm and reinstall it again. After reinstalling it, nothing changes. I go through the same process again. When I'm stuck at this point: If I select "Close Program", it asks a second time if I want to close the program and that doing so may cause some information to be lost. If I close it out, I can attempt to relaunch the program again but with the same results. I've tried everything I know to do to get the client to load. No luck. I don't know if any of this will help, but I hope so. Game is broken from where I sit, and no solutions being offered at this point on how to get it fixed. Love the game, and I know a lot is going on. Hard not to be frustrated though, being an experienced player and supporter of the game who is not even trying to get into the new servers. I knew it was going to be a busy day and a huge load on those servers and such, but did not expect the older servers to get caught up in all of that. Two days without my Wurm fix, and a lot going on in my valley at a time when there may be new players running around there and no chance to have a presence where I'm working. And that is not to mention having three premium toons missing out on the 30% skillgain bonus event this weekend. 😉🤔😒 Humbly (and hopefully helpfully) submitted, ~TH~

yeah there are a few modders still pretty active, the great thing about WU is every server is different, if 1 server doesn't fit what you are after you can try another server. as for modding here is a little video I made which may help you get started. Hope you enjoy your WU experience 😃

I'm sure someone will take on the challenge if there is a map dump. Opt-out vs Opt-in is really up to what the mappers are comfortable with. Do you like being automatically added to email and phone lists or would you prefer to opt-in to them. It's kinda the same thinking with the deeds on maps I believe.

1080 other players on Harmony; 420 on Melody (which is pretty full for a Cele/Deli/Rel/Exo sized server. 2483 totally in Wurm. Still going up a few hundred more every few hours, Harmony is still lagging and still gradually going up not down in pop. But ... not going up as fast though. Maybe we will break 3000 this week and find many of those 11,000 WO wish-listers a Forever Home \o/ Edit: Not too long after the servers came back (20 min?) Harmony 828/1500 Defiance 383/1500 Haven 41/400 Melody 322/800 Golden Valley 3/80 (1898 totally in Wurm) So lost some who probably went to have dinner, do the laundry. take a shower, and a nap, but they will likely all be back with friends later

Opt-In was what was requested back the very beginning of the Indy Community Map some 10 plus years ago. This was done to protect peoples right to privacy if they wished to remain anonymous. Opt-Out violates peoples right to privacy by revealing where they are even if they do not want to be found. So it is privacy reasons that the Albia Roads Map of Indy continues to this day what Darkmalice implemented back in the beginning, which respects the right to privacy of those who do not wish to be put on the Community map. Skyefox will also answer shortly, because your statement that only 10% of all deeds on Indy are on the Albia Roads Map is absurdly Inaccurate. Running: WurmLauncher -client "Live - Old UI" worked for me on Linux (where "Live - Old UI" is the menu option with caps and spacing exactly as shown in the menu). This is not documented anywhere, and I think they are intentionally not sharing this information trying to get users to use the new UI. I hate it, Wife hates it, and we are sticking with the old UI until/if they make some improvements (already documented) to the new UI. For Windows, you can probably run something like you show above: D:\Wurm Online\WurmLauncher64.exe -client "Live - Old UI" I hope it works for you! Best of luck.

Yes, please give us more scaling and font options on the new UI . My eyesight is not v.good, but I do not need such large lettering all over the screen - it is very distracting. Would prefer to use the old UI, but I guess that we will be forced to use the new UI eventually, so please let's have some more scaling on it. Thanks, in hope !

There is no chance at all whatsoever. We even tried with accounts that existed on Golden Valley for almost a decade, but the portals themselves are coded in a way that only newly created characters can use them. The devs have been extremely clear on this and it will not change until or if the servers connect to the rest of the cluster which is unknown at this moment

Massive update have been made to secure a good route connecting central to the north. Big ups to our fantastic alliance for breaking all the shovels and pickaxes for this one. We figured out that the old freedom highway would need an extension: We gathered the manpower to do so and started, and within a few weeks the road is finished. Mind you we still need to place CE along the highway and plant and bless lamps, and the tunnel needs a bit of beautification - we're on it! I will also take the time when planting lamps to clear the guard towers along the highway and make them more visible, in addition to add some fountains and mailboxes along the way. The new part starts where the old Freedom Highway makes a bend south. All the old roads in the area are connected and functional, it was worth the effort. All slopes on the new part of Freedom Highway have a diagonal slope at maximum 7 (equals to 14 on a straight slope iirc), so its fit for fast riding and stamina regen. The Freedom Highway enters a tunnel in the south, connecting up with the old Valyrian Steel tunnel. This part still needs a bit of cleaning before its completely done, but its open through all the way. You can also check this topic to see what we had to deal with to get the tunnel in order: Thanks again to the great and active alliance im lucky to be part of for the massive collab on this project! And look out for more beautification of the north, as i will continue adding to this thread when parts of the old roads are modernized.
