Will leave underground building in and consider other options mentioned here post launch as there is not enough time for anything more complicated this close to release, underground building was just turning a flag off. Thanks for all the feedback, post launch we plan to look at both on and off deed mine meta and how we can find a good middle ground with them.

Well, the votes were clear. The names we picked the first time around did not create the inspiring feeling we were looking for, and so we took things back to the drawing board! This time, we had each dev pick two names they liked, and veto one, from those results we built a list to vote on and cast an internal vote. We then took the winning names and asked for feedback from the larger Wurm team to make sure we didn't cause another rumble of dissatisfaction. The names were then (accidentally) listed on the server listing page, which was a bit of an oopsie on our part, but the cats out of the bag now! Introducing: Harmony: PvE Named by Syhl Defiance: PvP Named by Talor Harmony and Defiance were popular choices, with 7 and 5 entries, respectively. As stated in the competition announcement, the first entry qualified as the winning result, and we're pleased to announce that Syhl and Talor were the winning entrants. The start deed for Harmony shall be named Heartland (named by DragonNoir), and the start deed for the Mol-Rehan kingdom on Defiance shall be named Rumble (Named by ChampIAN) I'd like to take the time to thank you all personally, your feedback was for the most part constructive and positive. The voting went well and we hope these names better reflect the world in which we all play in. Towards the end of this week we'll be in touch with the four winners, each getting coupons for their prize! See you soon on Harmony and Defiance!

The new UI client together with some fixes will be the default by Friday, but the old client will still be accessible through the choose client dialogue.

Removing a popular feature because it apparently makes deeds a bit harder to raid, but at the same time adding raid windows which makes a deed impossible to raid at certain periods of time seems a bit backwards. Perhaps try to balance underground deeds with raid windows instead of removing one or the other entirely.

Adding onto Borkens post. One of the big draw cards for new players will be the ability to build entirely in a mine. If this isn't possible on pvp, you've ready killed a chance of new players there.

Just a reminder guys, that today (Tuesday) at 15:00 GMT, we will be going on a grand tour of all of the set locations filmed in the trailer! We'll start off by watching the original storyboard version of the video, upon which everything was based We'll visit each set location, scene by scene. I think you'll especially enjoy seeing the sandstone "kingdom" that's shown a couple times towards the end. I'll describe what kinds of challenges we faced and how they were solved We'll also have a look at the many tools Samool made to make this trailer (and any future footage) possible So please join us on Twitch tonight as we do a very special edition of "Wurm Roulette" on my personal stream (so no, not an official Wurm stream) https://www.twitch.tv/katspurr

Some very good points, we are willing to disable underground houses and fences to see how that goes. They can always be re enabled but can't really be taken away post people building them.

Never read deeply into the words of the person they keep locked in the server closet.

Removing a massive feature that's enjoyed by many doesn't seem like a good move. Especially from day 1 where people are deciding what server they want to settle on. I don't remember it causing any issues on new Elevation either. It doesn't even solve anything, people will just have personal mine vaults for each person instead. So now you have many mine doors to deal with instead of just 1. I'm pretty disappointed about this seemingly rushed decision because a couple of people don't like the underground deed aesthetic to be honest.
  10. 4 points
Disabling underground housing isn't going to change the deed meta, it will still be either a token pit or a token spike followed by walls or pits and people will still live in the cave, just out of a cart or wagon instead of a house or a bunch of individual safe mines. All disabling it will do is annoy people. I say leave it in tbh.

Please remove fatigue it serves no purpose. I've spent 71 euros in the past few days on wurm, and got two months of premium (thus far) but the game is not letting me play, I want to play more and grind more and spend more money but the game is not letting me. I have 18 hours of possible game time, meaning i can only grind 8 hours in a day now. Once I wake up and use the time that I wasn't in wurm I lose 10 hours because of this system because I'm waiting 3 hours to get 1 hour of play time in wurm. This is ridiculous, this is a scam. Developers I want to play your game, why are you stopping me for playing this game and spending more money. 21/07/2020 [23:42:49] You have 22 minutes left.

Want to announce that thanks to Samool, the issue is resolved, and my box is running with the new UI too (tested on test client), will certainly be implemented when new UI goes productive. Thanks a lot.

Small QoL Update Low stamina will no longer increase your action time when working on actions, since this was very annoying and stressful while performing actions. When stamina is close to running out then the penalty will come back and you need to regain stamina. The times of calculating if it is smarter to queue 2 or 3 or 4 actions before resting should be a thing of the past with this change. New players with playtime below 24 hours will be set to 100% food and 100% nutrition on login to make the start easier for them and give them some extra skillgain. You can now farm, harvest, replant, sow 7x7 (radius of 3) tile wide areas at 90 skill in farming. You can now cultivate 7x7 (radius of 3) tile wide areas at 90 skill in digging.

When I said "add hassle" I was simply being mild and kind in an intro... To be Clearer: I genuinely do like the addition of the feature from a cosmetic and functional point of view for PvE --- but it is not suitable at present in conjunction with the other mechanics in place to a practical and thriving PvP environment. If you go beyond the first line of the original post, I explain how the underground building feature clearly breaks the PvP experience for the greater majority at present. No argument that some part-timers unable to build their nuclear proof bunkers may head to the PvE server.... but longer term that will be a far lesser loss, than losing what is realistically a last chance to consolidate a PvP community who will drift off after a few weeks, if the environment is allowed to remain static if the underground mechanic goes ahead. The moment the environment in a game becomes static, people can and will leave in droves. ------------ @DarklordsThankyou for the consideration, and also exactly as you suggest, the fact that this cannot be effectively reversed, only increases the importance of considering this in the short time now before launch... Id suggest contact the leaders of the 5-6 large pvp groups that I am aware of representing 30-50 people each I would be surprised if more than one of them voted against removing underground buildings -- For those with a genuine PvP full-time mindset this feature unfortunately does not work well with the overall current mechanics Disabling it, until there is a consensus that the PvP game is ready for it, would be in my view, sound foresight. With other tweaks down the track over time... It may even be possible at some point to reduce that raid timer from 8 hours too... removing underground buildings would be a HUGE step towards that, as to be blunt... 8 hours is nowhere near enough for a properly set underground deed to be raided.

I played MR in the past. I want that name for MR. That way it's not BL.

So here we are, 3 days from release and don't have more info as to how we can reserve a name or how the creation will work. There are lots of people under the assumption that you can reserve a name by just waiting in the tutorial area, cause the post from @Samoolisn't in any way pinned or anything. Please give us more info, or at least make this a pinned info in the Steam FAQ.

No you cannot reserve a name before the release

CEST is 2 hours ahead of UTC (and GMT). CET is 1 hours ahead of UTC (and GMT) It is a bit odd if the time given was CET, since we are now on CEST across Central Europe, so I kind of agree with you that times should be given out in UTC in the future, We do have players from all over the world.

No -1..... In your new trailer you show underground housing, don’t rob new players from that. Why remove such a unique feature? Besides, was there not a change so you can mine reinforcements on deed? If so, underground is not very safe anyway. Leave it be, just my opinion.

The quality of the tools, enchants on tools and your skill all reduces the timer for the action. In that case a high quality mallet/hammer with enchants (wind of ages/blessing of the dark) and high carpentry skill. You get better at what you do in Wurm Online. Higher skills actually has a function as you get a better success rate, higher speed and you can use the skills to get higher quality outcome. As your skills grow you can make better tools, which also helps alot. Hope thta was more clarifying than demoralizing.

Yes I did design and build all of the sets. Thank you for your kind words ❤️ If you're talking about the sandstone/rendered city - you know - I'm almost tempted to build it for real in Wurm some day. It would take years and years of work no doubt, at least if built alone, but as folks will be able to see in today's stream, the end result is quite special and worth the work.

The reason you need to make a new account is because although you play on epic, your account still exists on the southern freedom isles. Adding an option to completely delete your character from epic/S. freedom isles would create more issues than opportunities, and could lead to major issues within the databases. I understand that the premise "why not just let us move over?" is simple, but the reality is the technical impact could severely disrupt players and accounts. If you would like to play on the Northern Freedom Isles you will need to make a new account as they will be COMPLETELY separate. This requirement of a new account is not going to change, it's not about money, it's not about being unfair, it's about ensuring that if the servers ever do merge, we don't have the issues we encountered with any other instance of skill transfer we've encountered before.

This. Firstly.... I have NO issue with Underground building for PVE -- its adds variance.. and looks cool... but for PvP ... it simply adds hassle.... -- As it stands: With underground PvP deeds, you can now dedicate 100% of your surface area to defence. That means more dirt walls, spikes, More donut houses. more rings and layers of defence...than ever before.... You can basically build a blob of junk on the surface holding no loot whatsoever that will take 4-5 hours to get to the token. Even if you make it through that then you probably have to bash a couple of mine doors.... add another hour each... you will be lucky to have an HOUR to push underground... and that is likely taken up by bashing at 4-5 walls/gates on a ramp... before wait... oops sorry.. the raiding 8 hour window is over... your times up. Also Everything is rebuilt in about an hour.... --- By rolling back to force all housing to be surface side, farming surface side, breeding surface side... This means the new 150/60 slope.. at least provides opportunity to raid... It means those who cluster and horde stuff, actually have to build a town... instead of simply knocking out a hole in the ground and throwing a few gates up. As it stands now... the underground meta... You can build a practially impenatrable blocker or holding deed very very cheaply. IDEALLY underground buildings should be back on the not allowed list for PvP servers, IF that is not a easy option, then at the very least Simple Fixes: Animal Breeding timer does NOT tick if the animal is underground. Not a perfect solution but creates a lot of micromanagement hassle for those who try otherwise. Crop Timer does not tick underground - period. Force some activites back surface side... Kare

Well it is kinda catered since only those people can keep the developers fed, there are just more ways for "freefolk" to make it here than in games like TERA etc. The paradox is that if only the well to do players with money are catered to, then the people with tight budgets drop out, the playerbase keeps shrinking, the game starts dying. SMART developers try to find ways to keep everyone feeling an active part of the game, even those who are struggling economically.

Some people have never put a penny in the game yet own huge deeds, dozens of alts, specialized crafter, priests, huge deeds. Other people have money galore but really no time. They might be able to afford $20 $80 $200 a month. But they don;t have time to sit around for hours chipping bricks, making mortar, farming crop fields, wandering the server looking for animals to breed, pounding pegs into hullboards to make ships. So they tend to buy those items off other players. The farmer sells his crops to the casual player, the mason sells thousands of bricks. Sometimes they make enough to pay for premium ingame with silver coins, to buy a deed, etc. It kind of varies a lot from player to player, but there certainly are a number of success stories. It doesn't mean every new player with no cash is going to succeed, but it is possible.

Many of you have said such lovely things that really tugged at my heart. I've appreciated the kind words so much everyone! But what has moved me even more, is seeing how you guys "got it" "felt it" "understood it" "connected with it". It's almost like our wurmian souls are connecting to another through the trailer, as corny as that sounds. *grins* Let's hope that whatever magical vibe is in that trailer, is not there merely because we old players feel nostalgic and attached, but that it's something more than that, something that captures the imagination of new players as well!

Someone could use real money to buy a bunch of in-game silver, but it wouldn't do them all that much good. Ultimately, you're still limited by what others can make. 1,000,000 silver won't do me any good unless I can find someone willing and able to make me a weapon worth 1,000,000. It's not like a pay-to-win MMO where you can buy max quality gear from the developers themselves. Befriending a good blacksmith is worth way more than all of the silver Richie Rich could ever buy.

My plan is to simply build myself a small 2x2x1 cottage, craft some bins to go in there along with a stove and forge, then focus on helping brand new players who might be wandering around lost or trying to understand the game so that I'm possibly contributing to new players actually giving the game a good chance and sticking around longer. I've no desire to recreate an advanced deed like I currently have on Independance and intend to keep active on, more just a little place with few expectations of advancement. Definitely not expecting to go much beyond 20 in my skills and characteristics because I'll not be grinding and instead focusing on just enjoying the game and getting a good feeling when I can truly help a new player out. Oh yeah, and a rowboat and large cart. Those will be on my plan list too for sure. I might even build the oven and forge in a designated public area of the house (doing that would mean I'd need to expand it beyond 2x2x1 though) for anyone to use but not able to load them away. Nothing written in stone as it's always more interesting to evolve to meet needs of both self and community!

I legitimately don't think this game will ever go away. M59 and UO are still around and I personally think the sandbox survival genre is getting even more popular.

Hello fellow Xanadunians! By now, I'm sure you've all heard about Operation: Flatten Xanadu, and have questions about what it entails and how it will affect your gameplay, so I started this thread to provide some explanations in one place. You may have already noticed our team members in your local chat recently. Perhaps you've seen some server chat as we coordinate our efforts to flatten the server in the most efficient manner possible. Fear not. At the current state of the project, all we are doing is digging up all the dirt in your area and possibly -- depending on your elevation -- surface-mining the underlying rock and discarding the shards. In summary, and as the name implies, the goal of Operation: Flatten Xanadu is to reduce the entire Xanadu server to a single uniform layer exactly one dirt above sea level. We're going to destroy all the mountains, fill in all the lakes, discard all the rocks and most of the dirt, and be left with a perfectly flat, uniform landmass. Operation: Flatten Xanadu -- FAQ Q -- Why are you doing this? A -- We, the members of this project, feel quite strongly that Xanadu should be flat. Q -- What are the phases of this project? A -- Phase One is woodcutting. We will remove every single tree, bush and hedge from the server, in preparation for future phases. If we do it fast enough -- within about 36 hours -- we can prevent Xan's flora from respawning, very easily. Phase Two entails digging up every single unit of dirt on the server and immediately discarding it, leaving only exposed rock across the whole of Xanadu. In Phase Two/Three we begin to surface-mine every rock tile down until the landmass of Xan is all rock, one dirt below sea level. In Phase Three, we begin to import dirt from other servers in order to fill in Xan's lakes and cover the flat rock, bringing all tiles up to sea level. We estimate this will cost approximately 2,931,248 silver, which we will fund by selling shallow-water fish to players from other servers. Q -- How long do you think this will take? Based on initial estimates, we believe we can have Xanadu fully leveled to our specifications by early December 2020, assuming enough players get on board and commit the hours. Q -- How many players are currently involved? A -- Four. Q -- I own a deed on Xan, how will this affect me? A -- If you've always wanted to live on an island, or if you're a rice farmer, this is awesome news! If you're not, it's probably not going to end well for you.. Q -- Why are you doing this again? We, the members of this project, feel quite strongly that Xanadu should be flat.

Currently they seem to be at 800 That might not be enough and we are all severely underestimating it. When Epic was released, Elevation alone had 300+ people and there were also the home servers with possibly hundreds on each. Now it will be just a single server. This is just PvP, something that isn't the most appealing thing for most Wurm players. The trailer also has 23k views already. 10% of that is already at 2300 people.

It better be at least 3 years if they don't want the Harmony economy steamrolled.

Platya, I also believed that to be true, so I planted them on my deed in a field and waited for month and months and a few months, nothing ever grew, experimented by leaving just dirt next to them, and grass, there was no spontaneous white dotted flower growth. Ayuna, that is my favorite time to hunt for them, just did that recently for all the days of autumn, for hours and hours on two different servers. ... 1 .. that was it. 1 what i really want are flower seeds, and new garden options, tiles that look like flower gardens, window boxes, gate arches with flowers, sunflower fields, trellis' with flowers not red dots, rose bushes with roses.. not sticks with red dots. the lavender bushes are more what i would like to see. also .. again.. stained glass would be great too

Actually you can reserve a name right now for up to 2 days. Just register the character with the desired name and don't complete the phase 2 of the registration process. This way you have it reserved 2 days and so you repeat the same process on the 23rd to have your account reserved until the character will be created on a location which let's him join both server clusters on the 24th. Am I right?

Reading through the last few pages hurt my head. A group of friends and I are excited to get in on a new PVP server where everything is fresh. We used to play a lot on epic and were wondering how kingdoms are going to work on this new server?

small population of this game (how weird or not it can sound for veteran players) is bc difficult and complex it is. I can argue for hours how stupid and braindead fresh mmos nowadays, but its out of topic. We are like heavy metal boys in hip-hop culture age.

So this will be fixed with today's restart. Someone from Niarja will have to fix their data, we don't control that. The issue was indeed a configuration one that we failed to catch early on in testing. Also Celebration and Xanadu will see new rifts after this restart due to the issue since the old rift data wasn't saving. It's known.

When I was a brand new player I would often scout the market stalls at the Howl, because I was poor and wanted to save every single copper I could. Glancing through the stalls let me privately see who had the best deals, often allowing me to select an item of lower quality if it had a good enough price discount. The trade channels were all of the high end players and all they were really interested in was their high end wares and their high end enchants. I had no way of keep straight in my head all of the price checks and having people try to convince me what was the "standard market price" for an item, which I was supposed to take as gospel on their sayso. Shopping through stalls gives newer players especially a welcome anonymity while they go from stall to stall seeing which one offers the very best bargains. Also it could be a while till enough Fo priests have leveled up to make Courier affordable for the "common folk". Making a run into the nearest market town also gives them a chance to see other players and provides a welcome !Adventure Day! that never gets old when you're a newbie. I very much look forward to seeing the market towns on the new server

Zexos I fully understand where your heart is at with your feedback. I appreciate your best intentions for the game and also think the way you explained your feedback was very clear and considerate. I completely understand the point you're trying to make, but there are a couple of points to consider from the other side: 1) Promotional material for games is always showing the game at it's "best potential" and I think most gamers understand this. 2) Let's stop to consider what this trailer would have been like, without the little extras. If we use the cooking scene as an example: At the end of the day, cooking in Wurm is a character standing in one place in front of an oven, making no sounds, making no animations and with all the items in inventory. All veggies and other food items hidden away in a food bsb versus placed on a table. How could we have communicated and conveyed the theme of "cooking" in a clip like that? Let's say you were directing the trailer: What's your vision on how that should have been implemented visually?

kind of a matter or preference in fighting stance. For normal or defensive i would suggest a longsword and shield for best parry, for agressive something heavier like a maul or huge axe. Armor comes down to mobility these days, studded is quite good right now compared to its heavier counterparts but can lack defense against certain attacks. If you normally riding then plate or chain may be a better choice.
