Always when efforts are taken to get somehow more player to the game, or old players to return, theres the idea to make something seperated from the core islands and i rly disklike it. I started wurm on the epic server and i still have a friend who dont want to join me on the freedom server, because he will have lower skills here and feels like home on his epic island, which means he doesnt play wurm at all, because epic is dead. When Wurm Unlimmited launched, the already low population on epic dropped even more, to the point where only a handfull (max) of ppl where playing there. That made me quit wurm online. It took me over a year to get comfortable with the idea to start again with no skills. Then Jackal launched, but no surprise, it was seperated again. The community got splitted for a little while again, but luckily people got bored there pretty quick. You could have add a interesting and challenging pve island, or prolly create areas on the existing islands with something new... When i heard about the steam launch i was kinda happy, but even when i made my experience before, i didnt thought about a new split again. But here we go... New people will come and it will give WO a boost. I hope it will get a lot of positive reviews there. Some people from the existing playerbase on freedom will do a restart there, like it seams. So again freedom server will feel more empty for a while... Why doing this split again, what was the thought about that? I mean give players from freedom, who start there again, a week and they will dominate the market with high ql items. On pve servers only the economy can make a new player have a bit less great experience, because they cant sell their semi good items, for what they grinded. Also before launching on steam a few parts of wo should be reworked/improved. Like the fighting animations should be completed. Look at spear fighting, its more like spear swinging, what feels really weird. Pretty much every other game with first/third person has a proper animation set for that. Taming feels useless and bland (beside mounts). Pets are very weak, cant be trained or given usefull commands to them, beside attack, or move a few tiles. The attack command only works if you dont get suprised. If you get surprised you have to disengage first, what is super annoying and if u fight on foot almost impossible to do. Beside that you get less fs skill, what is one of the main reason why ppl dont use them in pve i guess. Or the squishyness, idk. Some people like playing a mage. We have our priests for that. Thanks to the dev who put so much effort in the priest rework and i thank again that he was rly listening to the community, but whats missing, is that people cant use their spells for pve fighting. I mean how much expensive gems you would have to use, to kill only a single mob with magic!? The pve damage should be raised by a huge amount.

Tracking is a skill many neglect due to its limited uses. Outside of pvp it doesn't see much action. How about as a side option, tracking would enable you to find "rare" animals which are basically are like regular mobs but beefed up. For example let's name a bear "Bloodclaw" (original , I know right?). You see a den of bears around and you begin tracking the area. If Bloodclaw (or whatever RNG name you want to implement) is already dead, then you get a message like "It seems like there is no sign of any dominant beasts amongst the fauna". If he is alive, you start to get messages like "You think the tracks lead NE." You get closer " The tracks seem to be fresh, Bloodclaw seems to be nearby. Perhaps a lure like fresh meat from his pack would attract him?" . You keep tracking till you find a spot that says "You sense he is near, this is the perfect spot to place the lure." Bloodclaw spawns in a violent flurry of tooth and rage charging at you with a pack of black bears. Bloodclaw basically acts like a champion but with extra muscle on him, better DR, higher dmg, and perhaps as a side ability, spawning black bears? Or maybe just attracting the mobs in the local area to his position. Once he's dead, you get "tracking" skill besides the regular FS and a chance to get something valuable from him once butchered. Examples of loot : A rare skull from a powerful beast ( you can display it in your hunting room). A powerful claw that has ripped many asunder. A large fur in pristine condition, it might make a good rug or perhaps a cape? (hint hint devs? ) Might make hunting more interesting. Could also be added alongside the taxidermy suggestions people have been making for some time now.

This are my Tower Guards on my deed: I could kill them, and when I log back in tomorrow they are all back in there. This renders them useless as you cannot call for guards on a mob when this happens. 95% of the time a guard walks into a mine never to come out. Fix this please. The fix is super easy: Dissalow for guards to enter mines on Freedom. Thanks!

The only reason I referred to the poll, is because it was being used as "proof" that "not many" Wurm players were planning on trying the new server. I was simply pointing out that the poll did NOT indicate that, but because players interested in trying the new server were spread across various answers, while the players refusing to try the new server were concentrated in ONE response, it gave the illusion the latter made up the largest group. The poll in fact demonstrated the opposite. Is the poll accurate? Who knows? It doesn't really matter whether we claim current players are interested or hostile to the decision -- the new server is coming. Rolf has been planning this for the greater part of a year now. No one will know for sure until July 24 if people are excited or completely disinterested. All anyone has to offer in the meantime is personal biases and anecdotal information. Just don't use the poll results as "proof" no one is interested in the new server, because that is the opposite of what the poll actually indicated.

So, I've been doing a lot of thinking about what I could do with my deed now that I am beginning to make some progress on building. I have big plans, and among them is a personal library. Or at least, a personal library was a part of the plans. I learned today though that all books, no matter how they are stored (aside from maybe in magic chests), take damage and eventually rot away. Putting together a personal library of player created content now feels like it would be a vast waste of time. Man, could it have been fun though! I did some searching on the forums and while I found this OP suggested in different threads where books came up, I could not find a suggestion specifically made for the removal of damage ticks to books kept on a bookshelf. So, I am petitioning for the removal of damage to books that are kept on bookshelves. Bookshelves that are off deed would take decay, and maybe the books on them as well. I could perhaps see all books still being protected on a bookshelf off deed, but once the bookshelves rotted away the books could be lost. This would allow non deeded player homes to be able to keep and protect books as well as long as they keep the bookshelf in good repair. All of that could mean the eventual loss of books that are not on a deed, but perhaps at a slower rate. At the very least though, I am petitioning for all books on a bookshelf to be protected from decay on deeded land. Humbly submitted for consideration... ~TH~ Chief Hermit of Hermitage Also- a link to a previous post where this subject came up. Some comments and other suggestions are well worth connecting to this OP, in my opinion. Books, and the writers that would love to make them, could use a little love from the game:

Pseudo-bump Also through careful storage. Books in shelves and chests have been further protected, so the damage goes "from the outside, in". Pages in a book/codex, wrapped in vellum/oilcloth placed in a chest kept in a closed room last a very long time, and usually as you open each "layer" the next is better preserved. Currently the actual paper pages in a book get no decay. That's great, but a book should also get very little decay in a shelve or chest, and none at all in such storage in a deeded building. Wurm has a history worth preserving, but at present eats its own records. EDIT: Oh, and leather binding should be a thing to make more durable books than cloth. Maybe make it a Large Book or even a Codex.

Here we are again, and its almost that time of the year again for the annual Summer Friend-A-Long! This event is brought to you by Dragon Beard Markets, the Academy Network Alliance of Pristine, and random donors like you out there! This years Event will be held July 24th to the 29th. DUE TO STEAM LAUNCH I AM ADJUSTING THE DATE FORWARD A WEEK, THE NEW DATE WILL BE July 17th - 22nd. Hopefully this window will allow most folks the chance to attend and join in and the foolery of it all. Some of you may be asking what is an Imp-along? Well basically is a community event where everyone gets together to imp and cast for each other for free! Anyone can come, anyone can help imp. Often people just come to grind there skill for free. You don't have to be able to get to 70q imps, just do what you can and someone else will finish up the work! The only real restrictions is on channeling skill to help prevent shattered items. Made some changes to the deed based on feedback. Build a whole new arena that is designed around accommodating val and jackal mobs. I build a new tower for "Wurmian Lawn Darts" this year now that I know people have no problems flinging themselves to there likely death for prizes. We have collected a massive amount of materials, cotton, body bags, booze and prizes. I hope to see you all at turn up for the fun and games this year! Were going to commemorate the new arena with something special this year.... As I always say, If you didn't die at the imp-along you did it wrong! Please keep and eye on this thread as i will be updating it regularly with details of events, changes, whatever.... Event is ended for this year! When: DUE TO STEAM LAUNCH I AM ADJUSTING THE DATE FORWARD A WEEK, THE NEW DATE WILL BE July 17th - 22nd. Where: Pristine, T16, Friendship Bay deed. Map: https://prnt.sc/jdif1w - In game Map location. Map: http://prntscr.com/svwrts - Terrain View You can also plot to Dragon Beard from any highway, then just follow the highway a few hundred tiles to the deed. Imping Materials: All materials provided will be stocked in the resource carts/wagons next to each station, the general public will not have access to the bulk of materials, please try to NOT COMBINE tiny lumps like silver, gold, electrum, and the like for imping larger items like weapons and shields. Material usage will be alot higher, and we will get alot less imps out of the total stock of that material, less used is more for everyone! If you need a refill on something please ask in local or a "Wurm Lord" for refill. This year we will be providing some higher then 70q Materials during the last few days as sort of a reward for those people who stuck around and the work flow slows down a bit more. Expect to see up to 90q Logs, Iron, and maybe leather available for further imps towards the end of the event. Getting YOUR items imped, casted or bloods mixed: So these events work because people enjoy helping each other out, but a very important catch to that is that they do not want to feel abused or taken advantage of! Thoe it may seem like things are hard to track that would be a mistake to assume. The veteran impers and caster keep a close eye on who is dropping what and taking advantage of peoples generosity. Every event I end up taking peoples items for taking advantage of others (after a fair warning, if its not obvious abuse). The veterans who help out and imp/cast at these things will not hesitate to PM me if they think there being taken advantage of and I totally encourage this. As soon as they feel taken advantage of these things are dead! NAME YOUR ITEMS WITH YOUR COMPLETE CHARACTER NAME! Nothing else is needed, just make sure you move it to the correct locations as work progresses. ANY items that are not properly named will be secured and probably forfeit since identification is difficult. Creators tag will NOT be relied on. To be clear this means bring your existing gear, not create 1 of everything for every alt and bring it for free work. LIMITATIONS: A couple of weapons, a set of horse shoes, a couple of hammers, 1 of most other items. Do not create your items on site, particularly with the higher q imping mats. The only times items should be created is to replace shattered ones. So be sure you bring everything! If you have some unique bloods you would like mixed or applied feel free to bring them as well, please keep it to 10 or less, that should be enough to completely imbue a single tool, If you would like to provide the salt then we can do more mixes. Common Mistakes: As mentioned before be sure ALL your items are correctly named with your character. Find the station relevant to the skill required for your equipment. For example Hammers in Blacksmithing, Swords in Weapon smithing etc. Most are pretty obvious. Some of the most commonly misplaced items are: Carving Knife, Sickle, and Scythe witch are actually Weapon smithing. (Cooking) Knife and Leather Knife are actually Blacksmithing. New fishing rods are Fine carpentry, and the legacy rods are Carpentry. Fishing Reels are Jewelry Smithing, with the exception of the deep water reel witch is Blacksmithing. Secured/Overflow Item Recovery: *NEW* If one of your items has been moved to overflow please ask a "Wurm Lord" to retrieve it for you. Be sure to tell the the precise name of the shelf its on so they can find it quickly! For example "Casting Overflow SW3" will tell them what floor, what corner and what shelf your item is on. To avoid having your items secured try and make sure your checking on them and moving them as needed so that other peoples work can be processed. Be patient if you need something returned, everyone is a volunteer, and there may not always be someone around to retrieve your item. Any items left over anywhere that are properly named will be mailed back to there owner shortly after the close of the event. Deed Settings: *NEW* Drop AND Take are enabled on deed outside of buildings again this year for the purposes of butchering and looting during arena events. Please keep this in mind and do not leave your possessions outside un-attended, if you move more then a few tiles away your items could be taken by anyone. Treat is as in the wild! If Trash becomes a problem I may reconsider this policy and disallow looting. Deed Bonus's: *NEW* If your a visitor of the server and want to take advantage of a maxed out enchanting and rarity window bonus you can join the village, this is also a good option of you forgot to bring a tent! If you would like to join just PM VirusMD to get an invite What is expected of you as a patron: Be polite and be respectful! Don't forget to put your characters NAME ON ALL YOUR ITEMS! Cant stress this enough. Anything not properly named is likely to be lost or stuffed in an overflow bin, and once moved with no name, there is basically no way to identify it as yours. Please try and remove your items promptly once imped/casted to avoid having your items secured in overflow. You do NOT need to label them with what cast/imp you want, just your name. Just make sure you place them in the correct container. Do NOT abuse people's generosity! Don't bring 10 or even 5 of the same item for imping/casting. The only real exception to this might be horse shoes. Anyone caught taking advantage will forfeit there items and be asked to leave. And the veteran impers do know what to look for, i removed almost 100 items last year due to abuse, and it was veterans who tipped me off. Do NOT sell items that were done for you at the impalong. Its about helping people out, not taking advantage of someone else's work to put coin in your pocket. Getting items casted is at your own risk! Thoe the priest will be required to have at least 70 channeling and demonstrate so with there 70+ title. Shatters can and will happen at an event like this. Item quality plays a big in this so if your going to get something casted, consider imping it first. If an item is shattered, and its reproducible on site, feel free to ask someone with skill to re craft it for you. You should not need to pick any items up that are not your (nor will you be able to inside a building) If your items are moved to overflow please contact a "Wurm Lord" Items are only returned to the character named on it! Also feel free to help imp items even if you don't have that skill to 70. The only real restriction is channeling. Everyone is welcome to help out! Consider this an opportunity to grind your skills and no expense to you other then time. Mats and favor are provided so go crazy imp or cast all the things! When you complete and imp or cast please call it out in local to the owner something like "/me VirusMD your pickaxe imp is done!" This should help keep things flowing particularly for items waiting to receive multiple casts. Please check on your items frequently when possible to avoid having them moved into overflow storage. What is expected as an Imper or Caster at the Friend-A-Long: Please do NOT improve items that are not correctly labeled! Instead report them to an admin to be secured. This is considered abuse since we cannot tell whos item is being imped. All of the above + PLEASE name your lumps/materials if you have to put them back in the forge etc 70+ in your imping skills of choice is recommended but feel free to chip in with whatever skills you have for imping. The final 2 days or so there will be higher q mats available for higher q imps, assuming the workflow is going smoothly. 70+ Channeling skill is required to be permitted to cast on other people's items. You should be sure to wear your 70+ channeling title Sermons: Sermons are volunteer led, if you wish to participate in the sermon group please ask for a sermon team invite in local, and get further information for slotting inside that channel. Friendship Inn and Lounge: Need a place to sleep off a hard days work? Hide from a GM (good luck), or just get out of the way? The Friendship inn and Lounge, has a pleasant little relaxation area on the room with a wide variety of booze for you discerning wurmian hooligans. The inn is capable of bedding 80 characters in 70 secure rooms with storage options. If you need a secure room for your stay please make a post requesting a room, be sure to include your character(s) names in the post. There is also a large piece of land set aside for "Tent City" Just outside the inn on the sandy beach area next to the docking (parking) slips on the East end of the event location. The Deed: The imping hall itself it a 5 floor (3 double floors) pottery building with slate/marble decor. Broken into 3 floors dedicated to various tasks. The First floor is the now the casting/sermon area, I've broken all the spells into 4 main groups, based on the spell/priests that cast it. each group has at least 2-4 dedicated altars PER priest for that category, the more common priest like Vynora/Fo. So no worries about tripping over each other at the altar! All organized into corners, In the center of it all is another ring of altars, surrounding a rare altar for the sermon goers, and the building is designed in such a way, that everyone below you should be counted as listeners for HUGE faith ticks!in the corners you will find some relaxing area's to afk/get out of the way in along with stairwells to the other floors. The second floor is for Non smithing related imps, broken into 4 main area's depending on the skill used. The 3rd is now the forge area based on feedback from previous years. Mainly smoke in the face of folks working on the second floor, the forge area is 24x forges nestled together in a large group in the center At this time we have about 1.1 Million Favor worth of veggies ready to go! Want to help chop? no? good! we don't need you!, because@ChampagneDragonis amazing and did nearly ALL the chopping, with some support from Ladygodiva! Apparently she likes doing this, so yah, amazing! Champagnedragon also does it for your precious silvers, so if you need stuff veggies, need them chopped chopped or just want some cordage, look no further then her! Great attitude, very fast, great rates. And a special thanks to the group of dedicated farmers to help with the job of growing 200k veggies.... Then 200k more when they nerfed them.... Ouch! Thanks to Almostsolitude, Morde, Dragonshearts, Ladygodiva, and prob some more I forgot about for tending the absurdly large 5 field 2600 tiles of farmland we were tending. Ship Imps: If your getting your ship improve PLEASE enable passenger for "Everyone" to help out the impers and prevent accidental drownings. The WEST end of the deed is where docks are located for people who would like there ships imped as well. Please do not park here if your ship is over 70q. Please move your ship once it has been imped help keep congestion down in the area for the impers. Ship Parking: The EAST end of the deed houses several new docking teirs that will house many ships, if your ship does not need to be impled please be sure to park on the EAST side of the deed, where "Tent City" is located just East of the Friendship Inn and Lounge. Blood Mixing: We have a large supply of source salt for potion making, so feel free to bring your bloods for mixing. Hopefully well get a couple high skill volunteers who can do them for us! Got a nice NS and Alchemy? drop me a line here or PM me if your willing to help out with mixes and imbues. Please keep the number of bloods your having mixed to 10 or less, this should be enough to get a single tool completely imbued. If you have extra source salt we can mix additional bloods with that. Staff Members Lists AKA "Wurm Lords": Materials Provided and Materials Needed: Prizes Donated: Materials Donated: Events and Games: Gratz:

I don't need these back, I just want to coordinate switching over the "Cared For" status so they do not all drop dead on someone, it's been about five years since I last logged into WO so they are way past the end of a normal lifespan. Most were probably left in the Samling / Bay Hill area north of BlackDogIsland, though they could be anywhere now. All seem to be Venerable, Fat, and a few are on someone's deed, so probably someone out there wants to keep them. Also, if anyone has spotted "Neome's Large Cart," it shockingly somehow survived 5 years, and might even have some of my old tools inside. All the ships wagons and deeds are gone, no surprise, but since I am unpremmed and poorly geared, I would not mind picking up the surviving old cart and trying to find a couple of bulls/nags to pull it so i can drive around and collect all of my stranded alts 😛 The horses that I need to coordinate to /stopcaringfor, and that need their new owners to Care if they want to keep them, are the following: Westfabiola (cared for by Ajara) Oakgolden (cared for by Brash) Hopsweet, Raidebony, Romanwar (cared for by Brashendeavors) Rockrock << always loved that name 😛 (Cared for by Jhana) Fantasygold, Ironchaser, Potebony (cared for by Neome) Sweetdog (cared for by Wyrda) -- Someone renamed it AEFSLCL but I have no idea what that might stand for, unless it is the five horse trait initials in some other language. You can keep them, I just don't want them to drop dead on anyone who has been taking good care of them the past 5 years. Most of them are "probably" clean 5-speeds especially if anyone has bothered to keep them this long, although there might have been a nag or two in the bunch. Last seen in the area around Samling Fjord/InnerSea/BlackDogIsland though they could have changed hands/areas multiple times in 5 years.

This is mostly based on adding 2 new tools. The Drying Rack :- Made from shafts and nails (fine carp?) The Mortar and Pestle :- Made from rock shards The drying rack is an immovable furniture item with a lot of size restrictions. Players can use this rack to dry various items (though this suggestion only covers its use and effects for healing items). Any "damp" object can be dried, this covers things like herbs, mushrooms, bladders, glands, paws etc but not teeth/horns. Drying halves the weight of components. So dried lovage would weigh 0.025 instead of 0.05. A dried black mushroom would weigh half that of a black mushroom (0.4?). Dried items also decay much much slower (1/10 the speed) To dry an item simply put it in the drying rack (a container) and leave it for a wurm week. The rack can hold up to 100 items but is limited by bulk. No skillgain for doing this. Grinding an ingredient is done by using the mortar and pestle on it. Doing so gives items the suffix "ground" and increases their potency by 1. This will give natural substances exp. Covers made from dried ingredients carry over their preservation bonus (1/5 for 1 dried, 1/10 for both dried). Covers made from ground ingredients apply 25% faster when a bandage is present. tl;dr? More little things we alchemists can do to make higher quality healing items!

Ok, so i know this is probably going to be a disliked opinion but hear it out, as i think it will be better for the growth of the game in the long run. So i don't think we should open the borders to the Steam servers. I've been mulling it over and i keep coming to the fact that when i started playing it was really fun and exciting because me and some friends were trying out the game, and we all started at 0, and we each took jobs to help get that first settlement off the ground, and it was amazing and accomplishing. I don't think opening the servers to old accounts will allow this to happen, as well as it would immediately ruin any economy that had gotten started on the steam servers, as people who have 3 priest alts roll in, ETC. On the topic of PvP this to be even more true, as lets say the game gets a following on steam. Lets say we get a thousand people to start playing. We'll say only 500 play PvP, we are essentially rushing them to skill up as fast as possible to be able to compete with 12 year old accounts of people who have wanted to PvP for along time. Well i understand this is a HUGE risk for Wurm to take, as it is basically saying to all the veteran players "if you want to PvP you have to start again". All i'm asking is you think on this, your out with your raiding party way back in 2012, doing your thing, and all of a sudden these new guys roll up and stomp you with 90+ FS and weapon QL with full enchants and drake scale. It doesn't sound fun. I could be crazy, and wrong. However i for one am excited to start fresh, make new friends, maybe bring old friends with me. Show this amazing game to a new generation of explorers.

I'm not entirely sure if this has been suggested before, the quick search I did didn't show anything though apologies if I missed it, or if there has been any discussion of this being a possibility in a future update. It would be quite interesting if there was a chance to gain a gem from chiseling away at a shard, of any type. The QL and chance would of course need to be discussed, but it could be another interesting way to gain gems aside from Prayer/Mining/Digging. What does everyone else think? Should it be bothered to add another method? What about the addition of a geology skill?

Let me ask you this Do you want high performance and graphics or do you want it for cheap? Running wurm at max/high without turning your laptop into a XF-84H while running wurm will require a bit more then 500 usd quite a bit more reason is simple wurm isnt that graphically intense like other games but because of its age and what has been done with it over the years it doesnt really run efficient either with its resources on some graphics cards the game will never go past 30-35% gpu load while struggling to achieve 60 fps on max yet others it will get to 100% blast the fans and sit on med settings at 25-30 fps and yet others have no issue at max settings and sit at what ever cap they put it at while the gpu never goes past 80 My hp omen x(used to have a older version but thanks to a work deal i was able to upgrade my personal omen to a omen x with a 2080 at nearly no cost) and my older omen both sound like jet engines when wurm runs anymore then 15 fps at max settings or 30 with max and some features turned down(shadows are a big impact in this game) now they dont do this when at home on their cooling pad but you know im guessing you want portability Now if you can find it on sale/2nd hand a asus tuf a15 would be a good pick but again thats at the double the price of what you listed Closest i can find to your price of 500 that is kinda worth it would be a msi gf series gf63 https://www.newegg.com/black-msi-gf-series-gf63-thin-9scx-005-gaming-entertainment/p/N82E16834155354 The only issue is its a 1650 which to be honest is ###### when compared to laptops that are 200-400 bucks more I would honestly say save up more money if possible save up to around 700-800 as price to performance becomes leagues better at 500 you just are not going to find any laptop that can run almost any game like wurm or other more modern games at high while providing good performance while looking great Now the main thing is that the big brands love putting underpowered parts into over priced hunks of plastic so you go to the cheap low end of throwaway sluggish devices then you kinda skip this trench into the land of decent laptops with a price of 2-3 times higher but they cant game at all and then the next big leap is into the land of the 1k and higher up to 2-3k laptops that can game really well Wurms biggest issue for any pc isnt really the graphics card itself(yes its important but anything resembling a 970 ti can run wurm at max at 40-50 fps) but the cpu's single core performance which often in laptops isnt that great because a sustained high load on a single core means loads of heat so wurm gets silly annoying frame stutters that come from the cpu struggling because of heating Anyway the 700 mark is where laptops start to become worthwhile the 1200 is when they are good value for money the 2k+ if you got nothing better to buy with your money and you want a lap warmer that doesnt sound like a jet engine when you start up wurm

Most laptops with a dedicated GPU will probably fall a bit out of that range, starting at around $700. Here is a $600 option, but its not the greatest IMO. Acer DGPU Microcenter link The AMD 3700, 4500, and 4700 represent good choices for a system with onboard graphics that can handle wurm without running hot. They will not play bleeding edge games, but are capable of playing wurm. Make sure you have an SSD ("NVME" preferable), as it will make a huge difference in the feel of how fast your system is, making it a hell of a lot more responsive.

Lets not forget that only a small amount of players actually use the forums actively let alone actively comment we see the same small group of 40-50 players comment on almost every single thing throwing their weight around everywhere(me included) Now at the time of writing this post only 114 people have voted that is still nearly nothing from the actual population its just us who are active on the forums A poll done in a pre selected group of players will always favor the poll creators choices and is not a accurate representation of it at all Sadly we will have to wait until launch day and first few months to see what happens but my money is on a lot of existing players will explore the new maps prem up a toon for a month or 2 find a little spot play for a bit before abandoning it because stuff back at home requires their full attention

Funny, but "after everyone had stopped caring about them" is not true. The problem with "Necro!" calling is the "damned if you; damned if you don't" element. If someone simply suggests something because they see it either isn't working now or WO doesn't even have it, they inevitably get shot down on the grounds it was suggested long ago and didn't happen. If someone bumps an old thread because it suggests what they were going to, they inevitably get shot down on the grounds it was suggested long ago and didn't happen. The thing is "it was suggested long ago and didn't happen" is not in itself any kind of valid criticism of the suggestion.

It was more over because originally they had hoped that j1 had more content then it did and was less of a buggy mess at launch and where planning on having them launch soon after each other round after round with changes coming in every end of a round vs in the middle of one But be it because of other events happening or a dev leaving and taking code with or just poor planning j1's release ended up lackluster and then the team being "focused" on steam and the client ui and some other features meant that they had to choose either work on j2 and give it the love it needs and deserves or focus on other features first and push back j2 I for one told them plenty of times that they can not wait to long with j2 or else it will all become a waste as no one will care anymore and the concept will be dead where as if they where to have someone focused on it they could do some changes every time a new jackal came out but on that part i kept being met with "we are a small team we dont have the manpower for this" as their reason for not dedicating a dev's time or most of a dev's time to such a thing(which honestly they should do) End of the day j2 hopefully isnt going to be a thing of once every couple of years but more over a once j2 is out a more reoccurring event where they run the server for a while with some good content it goes down for a week or 2 and goes up again with the next round and next set of challenges/features, As the thing i hope they will realize is that such a themed server is a great test bed for features that change the way the game is played and it would give them a default excuse of "its only here for a few months dont worry" if reception is bad to the idea Anyway as it stands right now jackal is the biggest example of reoccurring money grabs just like challenge and in a way challenge was more successful we had over 400+ players online on the first week vs jackals 300ish max and it had less content but what drove both servers wasnt really the "wow look at all this new content" it was the "hey this is wurm with a different theme on a time based server with faster skill" where challenge failed was letting pmks form and where jackal failed was not enough dev time and thus game breaking bugs coupled with it being pushed back as "other projects need more time" I just hope that they learned their lesson this time and will just take their time to allocate enough time towards a j2 and onwards as the jackal project does deserve that kind of love and attention as it can be if done right quite the catch for players

Thanks so much for that. For the first few months I died a lot, in many humourous ways, so there are many stories. Unfortunately, "short" is a wee bit of an issue for me, as I like to paint a picture. I try for short, but rarely manage it. 🙄 I think these projects of yours are wonderful. I like to travel but have avoided travelling to Xanadu because I am lag-shy. I think I may have to make the journey and have a look. I think Wurm needs more museums and libraries.

What about using the Bell tower? It rings automatically at sunrise and at sunset. Could even have a different musical tune for sunset and sunrise. Would also make villages with them in feel a bit more alive too.

But it isn't a random and therefore representative sample. It is self-selected. To view a representative result, all of the valid forum accounts that didn't respond should be included in the total under "don't know or don't care". Problem is, don't know and don't care are two very different responses in the first place. Public polls tell you what the people who feel strongly feel strongly.

According to Keenan, there will likely be several times the new IP address switches. Now I do understand you are not clear what that even means, you only know you can;t get into the game. This could mess up anyone who edited their HOST file and forgot to later switch it back. You've already indicated elsewhere you do not understand everyone's instructions on how to edit HOST, which is a clue its better FOR YOU not to mess with that at all, or you could have some longterm issues. It is also going to mess up anyone whose ISP is slower than normal to update IP changes . This sounds 100 percent like your case. You have not mentioned whether you tried changing your DNS server to something like Google Public DNS to avoid the issues you are having with your own ISP. I gave elsewhere an "easy" youtube walkthrough in more than one of your other threads but that is NOT guaranteed to work 100 percent either. It may however reduce the current issues you are having, to happening less often. One problem however is you keep starting new threads, in different subforums (this is WURM UNLIMITED technical issues, so it is not even vaguely related to your issue), and as a result we have no idea what you tried, where you are getting stuck, and how we can help walk you step by step through some possible solutions. Eventually the issue will go away, as you did get in once or twice, once they settle down the changes at their hosting company. But it also is going to possibly happen a few more times yet. I can appreciate you would rather have someone help you right now. To do that, you have to stay in ONE THREAD so we can help, instead of constantly making new threads. This is NOT a good thread to use, because it is the wrong subforum, this is NOT a Wurm Unlimited tech issue and will get closed or moved by a moderator. You need a Wurm ONLINE tech thread, preferably the one everyone else with the same issue is using, or at least one of the other ones you already started but never went back to: It if helps, this is probably going to last a few days but it WILL eventually resolve on its own even if you do nothing at all. Your ISP apparently just needs longer to update than most peoples ISPs, and the fact the IP address has apparently changed at least three times now, mean an ISP that is slow to update their DNS records is going to be nearly ALWAYS out of date, but eventually your ISP -will- catch up. I know that does not help when the only part you understand is that you would like to play TODAY.

Yes but if that is the case, then Jackal is losing its luster. If you tell me that I will have a chance to see Jackal for a very small amount of time every couple of years (development time + launch + other features development time...) then what's the point? Many players will come to Wurm and quit before the next round of Jackal even come. My understanding was that Jackal was going to be a recurring thing, yet its been quite a while since it was shut down, and theres not even plans to bring it back up. There shouldn't be extended development between the rounds of Jackal. The team is not big enough for that, and time spent on Jackal is time not spent developing the actual game and new features.

This is false and keeps getting repeated over the years until people seem to start convincing themselves of it. You have been here long enough to know Wurm history better. WO was losing players well before the announcement of Wurm Unlimited. The drop in population after WU was no more severe than the declining population in the period before anyone ever knew of WU. Yes, some people left WO for WU -- some people always leave WO. Some came back, some came back bringing new friends they met in WU, some in WU switched to WO because of trying WU first. Some continued paying for subs and deeds in WO while they were ALSO playing in WU (and paying for that, too). But gradually the WO population continued to decline after WU just like it was declining *before* WU. A lot of the decline actually started when they first jacked up subscription prices. Some of it was a general apathy after the opening of Xanadu and the ending of "new" stuff. Many players, like myself, had our own personal reasons for leaving WO. All of those added up, and they existed before WU was ever announced. The only thing that has reliably boosted player numbers -- besides short term spurts from holiday+loyalty gifts, a global pandemic, or a major content update, was the introduction of a new server. Wurm players adore new servers, and so did Rolf. Too many new servers, too fast? Probably yeah. It's not so much that it was too many, as they just came too fast. Two new servers in 2011, three in 2012! But they were needed as back then Wurm was bursting at the seams. Xanadu had kind of shocked me, coming so soon on the heels of Deliverance, Exodus, Celebration, Pristine and Release. Maybe they could have been spread out more, maybe no more than one new server every 18 months or something for starters, but they ALL did in fact boost income, at least shorterm. After Xanadu however, the sheen of a new server started to wear thin. What could Rolf do now to generate income, with subs declining yet again? He introduced WU, and it pretty much saved WO's ass. Rolf, who knows the actual numbers better than anyone here, said last fall that WU was in fact a success, not a failure. It brought in a lot of initial new money that gave WO time to weather out the next five years. Steamspy estimates as many as a half million people bought a copy of WU over the years. Of course, once it started getting discounted to 99 cent bundles, the income revenue dried up. WU sold what it could and then it lost some of its allure. It really has little to no "value" to CodeClub any more. It served its purpose. But in the meantime, it introduced Wurm to a new generation of players, many of whom eventually graduated WU and moved onto WO. WU also remained a haven for people addicted to Wurm but struggling to justify paying Code Club a monthly sub, especially given how many people are hurting in the modern world economy. Rich get richer, poor get poorer, at accelerating paces. If nothing else, WU is a blessing just as a "poor man's Wurm." Overall, WU had many more healthy impacts on WO than negative ones. Don't forget -- the game was bleeding players before WU. WU injected money that helped it survive another five years. That period of WU "helping" WO is ending now, which is why staff made the possibly callous business decision to cut their losses and walk away from WU. But it was, in the end, an issue of survival. Wurm has always been about survival. I am not sure what the staff situation is like right now, but when Rolf announced WU, he said they were down to five staff. I am assuming that includes Enki and server network people as well as active "developers". Since then, I might be wrong but it *feels* like the staff is larger. The content updates are certainly more meaty in the post-WU era, which has helped maintain WO populations better than would have been the case otherwise. It's been many years since Xanadu, many years since WU. I imagine that now Code Club is starting to feel the strain of lowered income again. Will the new Steam-Wurm launch and new server buy Wurm another five years like WU and Xanadu did? Possibly -- a lot of existing player base will continue to pay deed upkeeps, maybe even premmed subs, on the old servers even as they frolic on the new one and buy up goodies there too. Will veterans quickly dominate the economy on the new server? Of course -- many of them have been playing Wurm agressively on a daily basis for ten years. However, it will be mitigated somewhat by the fact they can no longer as easily churn out level 90 miners and blacksmiths and woodcutters and PVP fighters, to sell to other people. THAT will actually help the new server economy quite a lot. Eventually, a certain number of veterans will drift back to the older servers again, back to the deeds they love the most and the characters they have played the longest. The fact they cannot flood the new server market with another batch of hyper levelled RMT marketable characters, will give the "real" new people a chance to catch up a little. And, as has happened before, and as will likely happen again -- Wurm has bought itself another two, four, six years of survival. Long Live Wurm, may she never finally fail as have most other MMOs of her age. She's done what it takes to get through, even when older and bigger games have gone under. She's a survivor. Do i sometimes doubt Rolf's judgment? Often! However, Wurm is still here when most games from that generation are dead. Rolf apparently DOES know what he is doing, who woulda thought. Anyway, please stop this nonsense of WU killed WO. It's not true and it's never been true, it just makes a good story. WU was just another chapter in Wurm's survival history.

This makes me have less faith in Acer tbh 😅 😂 Yes, I would have to agree. The only thing I dislike is the speakers on mine are sooooo silent -- my phone has louder speakers. Also, the screen is darker and not as crisp as I would like to have it. Y'all getting me talked back into MSI xD Wow, after looking at that model, I am seriously thinking of getting that one. Really great specs and soooo much thinner than my big chunky MSI

You guys completely overlook the entire reason for the segregated cluster. Us "veteran" players that want to play in a new litterbox have to sub to play there. If they are "connected" even by portals, then my existing sub lets me play in the new area for free. Not gonna fly with new ownership trying to find ways to monetize the game.
  42. 1 point
I think it should work ala epic meaning: Old cluster has connection to new cluster through a special "gateway" people coming from old cluster to new cluster don't have their skills transferred to new cluster people coming from new cluster to old cluster do have their skills transferred to old cluster so if newbs want to delve into old isles history they dont' need new accounts etc, and they keep their skill but if oldies want to get to the new land, they would have their skills not available.

Maybe when your skills are high enough you could inspect a bookcase and get a notification in the event tab saying that "there are some books in this case who's binding is beginning to wear" when damage on the book gets to a certain high point. If you have a lot of bookcases, it would narrow down your search.

+1 Ancient manuscripts such as the Lindisfarne Gospels, The Book of Kells. and many more have survived centuries so why not books created in Wurm? This would add to immersion as well as the possible creation of library buildings by well-read citizens.
