great, nice discussion. nothing is really much different from now and then in terms of survival when wearing equivalent gear

First, yes, I realize you can plant reed. That's not the aesthetic I'm going for here. Can we please add a transmutation liquid recipe for dirt/water to reed and dirt/water to kelp? I'd even suggest using some of the newer juices, such as blueberry or orange as the base for the recipe. I would love to surround my harbor entrance with some reeds that look natural and lovely, but they almost never spread on their own.

As Finn said there's a difference between A) Working with other people together because you have a common goal in mind. You could do it solo at a more difficult pace or together for better rewards vs B ) Doing it because you realise doing it solo is an insane amount of work and are forced to adapt your skill grind to only a specific approach because the game doesn't provide any other options. There's min/maxing/meta/finding the best way to do something but at least earning it for yourself and then there's the game limiting options to just login to be afk. This really reminds me how afk the old fishing system was. I used to just queue up 7 fishing actions and vacuum the room for 10 minutes. Queue up again then wash dishes. If anyone came into my house those days and asked me what was I doing, would it make sense if I said "playing a game" when 99% of the time clearly I wasn't.

At the moment, you need to select each item, right click the token, then sell it. This is both time consuming, can can also lead to dangerous misclicks. What I propose is, when selling at token, clicking the button opens up a trader window, and sales take place there. It'd stop you selling things of real value (I lost 2 butcher knives this way over the years!), it's make newbie lives easier (forage/botanise gives far more coins) and it'd likely not be too hard to code (instanced trader).

It's insanely f**** up that we have to use low ql items to skill a combat skill considering we use high ql weapons to skill those up. Why can't skillgain be the same for 90 ql shields and ql 20 shields? After all the skill tick should be applied on a succesful block and that's it. Should encourage players to improve their shields and not run around with mouldy pieces of wood just to skill up. +1 anyway

I don't generally chime into these discussions, but would like to put my two bits forward. Instead of fighting the 'alt abuse' issue, I think we could focus more on the intent of the accounts being used. Regardless of the stats/skills of an account, and whether it's an alt or a main account, or any of those 'tags', we could instead focus on the intent an account is being used for. If someone mines their way close to an enemy deed and then strongwalls/reinforces the account into a 1 tile underground location with no more purpose than to watch who moves around in local, I'd say the intent itself is a toxic one and puts a dampener on overall pvp and play of wurm for most other players. Whether that strongwalled in account has 20fs, 40fs, 95fs, or 5fs; really doesn't matter in my mind. The account's sole purpose is to put a dampener on the local populations movements and playstyle. The reduction of this sort of playstyle would likely increase the overall enjoyment of a pvp server for the majority of players on it. Generally if there's an instance of toxic gameplay on freedom, which results in griefing tickets, the wurm team takes all circumstances into view and usually figures out whether there is intent behind the negative gameplay and who/what is going on and takes things from there. I'd say the same mindset should be used on the pvp side; if you're intentionally playing in such a way to disrupt and/or make the gameplay toxic to others, it should be looked at. I know and understand there are very few rules on the pvp server past personal attacks and such in chat, but there's also precedent when things are taken too far, and usually there ends up being a mechanics change or simply an order to stop doing certain things that are decided to be detrimental to overall gameplay and the health of Wurm itself. We want this game to be around for a long time, even the argumentative folk usually speak out because they love Wurm and want it to get better. Why can't we police ourselves when we can usually see something as admittedly bad for the game and just stop doing them? Whether mechanics allow or not? If you look at something and wonder if it should be done, usually it shouldn't...regardless of mechanics. I'd like to extend the idea that it's more fun to play for everyone when it doesn't get nasty and personal on either side. Kill each other, good fight, move on for the next fight.

since the patch where 1ql = 20ql or some garbage, shield skill grinding has taken a huge hit due to the ql being curved up for shields, but the damage they take isn't, which leads you to being forced to use a 1ql shield at higher skills when in the past you could have used a 20-30ql shield that can take some hits, the 1ql will get broken insanely fast, i've had a 1ql shield go from 0-100 dmg in under 30 seconds against a traited troll. please add a way to opt out/make the skill check use the base ql not the curved ql/make the curved ql also reduce the amount of damage the shield or whatever take.

As title clearly states- please let us paint/dye the floors of our buildings. I cannot conceive of any reason why this should not be allowed in the game. I was honestly surprised when I learned it could not be done.

Can we get the Valrei mobs back on chaos? Not sure why they were taken out, but always thought it was fun to run in to a Nogump in the middle of a hunting trip. Also, if they aren't going to be brought back, can we at least get moments of inspiration when killing mobs/butchering/burying? If we're gonna continue to turn chaos into a freedom server then might as well get some of the perks of it.

Being one who has preferred solitude to interactions with others nothing much has changed other than seeing them out and about less frequently. The sounds of traffic on the road nearby has less disturbed the tranquility of a softer silence further leading into peaceful meanderings of thought. At times a stroll through the enclave has brought to mind a sort of end of times scenario with all surroundings void of others as they are securely locked up within their dwellings, yet the promise of being the last man on earth remains unfulfilled. Only the paranoia of entering my local supermarket where the invisible killer may lurk upsets an otherwise mostly enjoyable and normal state of affairs within my own solitary lifestyle. Even then, I have lived a long life with many experiences I am no longer capable of pursuing, so leaving this life for the possibility of another new journey would not be an unwelcome event. For those who yet have much ahead of them in this life I can understand your concerns and wish you the best as your future unfolds. Happy Trails =Ayes=

faith grind should not be alt spam creation or forced socializing system... think where your deed is.. do you usually have 10 deeds around you or look for somewhat your own place on the map with less to nobody close to you to evade specific situations from even emerging when it comes to resources in local, etc. Forcing ppl to cooperate isn't perfect... with the current system it's just incomparable to grind faith on your own - that is the reason buch of people skip sermons and just slap a few alts to grind faith on their own instead. Not to mention(I am actually) that working fellas can't stand around an altar and sing combaaya all day long and start a sermon every 3 hours around others and follow a sermon order actively. It's not how world works.. it's how sermons force people to play.

+1 I've often had to make new tools for people who have unintentionally sold them at the tokens do to these issues and am always weary of doing so myself. Accidentally selling a rare and/or runed tool for just irons is gutting!

thatd be great joelle if it worked that way but in reality its some guy bringing his priest to your deed to afk and doesn't talk to you nor does anyone cause THEY ARE ALL AFK, sermons an afk skill. Wurm has an afk skill. Afk. Fact.
  24. 1 point
This. I don’t think any changes should be made to circumvent gathering together with other people to skill up. Too many aspects of Wurm are grossly independent as it is. We need more things that promote gathering together! And since when has 100 faith actually been hard for anyone to achieve?

Sermons are trash, I'm almost done with mine and I gotta say it's one of the worst systems. Remove prayer cap and be done with it, use sermons for some other benefit that gives a buff to the listeners so the preacher doesn't have to beg people to come.

slowing them down to where a fully barded hh cart doesn't outrun players on foot would be a good start, unbarded hell horse carts aren't really a problem as the horse drops in enough hits to not be broken just look at bison vs hell horses for carts, bison are tanky af, but go like 12kmh max? so they are not broken

i personally hate pvp in any game i play. it infuriates me me and in this game where in pvp situations it's designed to explicitly punish u if u die by the fact u can have your affinities and gear stolen and lose skill just by dying so i am absolutely never gonna set one foot on pvp grounds with my main. if i ever get adventurous enough i may but hell may have an ac unit installed then.

It's not a matter of there being a "right" way to do it that isn't tedious and time-consuming. I have a keybind for selling, which is about the fastest thing I could think of, and it is still tedious and time-consuming if I have accumulated a lot of stuff to offload. I would like the token to act a bit like a container, in that you could drag items to it from inventory for a sale. Coins would process like a sale but in effect would be deposited, as selling a coin results in the same value being added to the account. Stuff that can't be sold that way would reject, just like trying to put something in a container that won't take it.

I would be a lot happier if you could sell to token whilst mounted or driving a cart. I find it annoying to have to disembark before selling the corpses I've collected in the vehicle. The current system of token interaction is 'bitty' and inconsistent - we can interact with the token in other ways whilst mounted, such as open the bank, or pay deed upkeep, so I think we should have the ability to sell to token from a mount or vehicle too.

2 Marble Brazier Pillars complete and waiting for pickup at Sinuous Straits on Indy - on Fog Lake just north of the Western Deserts. I have them in the horse pen there, so if you let me know who is going to pick them up, I'll give them access and loading permissions. They only came out quality 24, so you have a bunch of improving to do. Maybe someone else in the community can assist with the other two needed.

There is discussion on the town square part of the forum about the economy and I was asked to post my suggestion here:- I feel there needs to be a kick start to the economy, it feels again that I missed the boat by joining late to carve out a trading skill to make some silvers and find my best bet is to forage for coins or just buy them from the online store. So I think the suggestion of new items or a second system is quite interesting. So my idea is:- How about a new Kingdom work order system, the starter towns could have a work order message board with jobs that need to be completed for the kingdom , orders from the king that rewards you a new currency "kingdom coins" these coins can only be traded in the new Kingdom Shop, that allows you to buy new recipes the recipes that you buy from there can be traded. This system is already in game with the drop cooking recipes that can only be made if the recipe is learnt. This I think could create the demand for items, a long term player who has his deed finished may want the new recipe for his BS skill, but doesn't want to invest the time making bricks for the current Kingdom work order So would want to buy them, this would create demand that new players could fill, My first wurm job was to make rivets and it was great as it improved my black smith skill while earning a few silver to help pay for a few needed items, to keep things moving and not going stale, just add new recipes that can be bought. Also due to the time demands of earning kingdom Coins 1 player couldn't just buy all the recipes, so different new recipes would be spread out among different players giving everyone the chance to make the silver back invested. The system could be set up sort of like a role-play thing too, So for example The king decides he wants to build a new castle, the work orders would be for the mats needed for said castle + items for the inside. next time it could be to kit out his army, so the orders would be for swords / shields / Armour you get the idea. I think something like that would help the economy more than forcing people to go and get items imp'ed, what happens if the demand is more than supply, the supplies would maybe help friends first, but the likes of myself who is new would have to pay over the odds to get my items imp'd back up or wait or go back to using and imp'ing my own tools, which defeats the object of the extra damage / decay as I wouldn't be trading, I would be doing it myself.

It is tough because as a continually updated game. 2006 Wurm shares nothing with 2020 Wurm but the title and core ideas. We shifted it to 2012 not because it looked more dated but the mechanics implemented with 1.0 were much closer to what Wurm is today.

Wow - thanks to everyone for such good responses! I very much appreciate your feedback and perspectives 😄 To address a couple points, real quick: Yeah, I know this - I used that language for convenience's sake while writing up the post... probably could have better used "opportunist" instead. Also, thank you for taking the time to discuss ruin hunters vs random opportunists - that's some really great Wurmian detail (makes this anthropologist super happy). Actually... nope. I talked to the locals before deeding the area to ensure that the land & resources weren't already part of somebody else's expansion plans or community project. And you're very good to remind me of this - there really are a ton of resources readily available just about everywhere. There are free resources and public mines much closer and more accessible to the newbie area, too... Your comments honestly made me think a bit over my own habit of being overly apologetic for taking up space (real or virtual) - a by-product of a lifetime of being expected by "norms" to be small and accommodating. Very interesting! I could probably be a little more confident about owning things that I want unapologetically. This is the concept of "proximity ownership" right? Thank you very much for clarifying... I asked about this in-game when I was setting up the permissions, but I was told either "I don't know" or "no, you have to enable pick up permissions too." So this is, at least for now, very much the way I'm going right now - I can remove pick up permissions from non-citizens while still allowing for people to collect the ore they mine, the logs they cut down, etc. And, in general, I have listened to everyone's discussion of the various ways to approach community life in Wurm. I already have a couple areas that are fenced and locked - and I do plan to use more of that going forward - plus, I am now planning to add some public places in perimeter areas with secured bins full of freebie resources, that I will keep stocked and in good repair. That very much appeals to my sense of hospitality (a real-world family tradition). Thanks again and see you in Wurm, Amata Lady of Havensfield, Independence

It's everyones time zone though, since rifts are on an increasing time cycle not a fixed one. I can go weeks/months at a time before they are in a fitting time zone for me and I'm not european. Someone will probably say it's just because I'm not going to all servers, yeah, I'm not, I only do two servers when available. A goal shouldn't require us all to have deeds/horses/slow boats with cages to travel to every server fighting time to get all the rifts. It's not feasible for anyone that doesn't stay home all day dedicating their entire life to this game, it's also not fair for normal people to get to participate once or twice a month. Just to emphasize this for devs, one rift a month from scratch will take more than 8 years to complete this goal. Someone like me that usually averages 3 a month would still take 3 years from scratch. How is this even remotely acceptable? Why is someone that can only play casually worth less equality than someone else that lives breathes and poops wurm? Do the devs not realize the issue is that the goal relies on a fixed time event overlapping someones available play time? Do they not realize that you can have incredibly harder goals than 100 rifts that are accessible to everyone's game time so people can tackle it when they actually play and it might actually get done? I'd rather do the 70 prayer goal. Lord knows I could complete that on freedom on every single account of mine before I finish 100 rifts on one...
  49. 1 point
I agree with this specific goal as well. The rest, while time consuming can be done in a relatively short amount of time based on how much you want to play. Catch 1000 fish, doable. But this goal? This goal requires specifically logging on certain times when the rift opens. Due to my work schedule (and sleep obviously) I simply cannot make 95% of rifts. They either happen at 4 am or in the mid afternoon when I am at work. I haven't done a rift in ages. As for other goals? You can spend a few weeks killing mobs and hunting. You can do missions in a short amount amount of time if you're dedicated. But rifts imply modelling your own work schedule to Wurm, and not vice versa. And no offence, but no game (that doesn't rely on scummy f2p pay-to win models) should encourage a players to login at certain times to do certain activities. Out of all the goals that I've had, this one is the least I've had progress with. Either reduce the no. of rifts to 50 (which honestly can still take a year to complete) OR change it to a different personal goal. Perhaps something akin to : 1. Breed 500 horses. 2. Heal 5000 wounds. 3. Improve 10 000 arrows. 4. Cook 20 000 meals. 5. Etc. Anything that doesn't involve logging in at a specific time which may or may not favor 50% of the player population. And just for reference, future rifts that happen either at work or in the morning.: Celebration 2020-03-09 11:15 AM2020-03-16 11:15 AM2020-03-18 11:15 AM -> nope Deliverance 2020-03-09 04:30 PM2020-03-16 04:30 PM2020-03-18 04:30 PM - > nope Release 2020-03-10 10:10 AM2020-03-17 10:10 AM2020-03-19 10:10 AM -> nope Exodus 2020-03-11 12:11 AM2020-03-18 12:11 AM2020-03-20 12:11 AM -> maybe if I go to sleep at 2 am.... Independence 2020-03-11 02:43 PM2020-03-18 02:43 PM2020-03-20 02:43 PM -> nope Xanadu 2020-03-11 05:50 PM2020-03-18 05:50 PM2020-03-20 05:50 PM -> nope Pristine 2020-03-12 10:24 AM2020-03-19 10:24 AM2020-03-21 10:24 AM -> nope All of these are basically anti-euro timers. People that work in europe cannot make most if not all of these. Most europeans work from 09:00-17:00 which means none of those rifts are doable for most players. And the fact that some may argue that after Covid-19 we can work from home, that still implies work and not Wurm. Please fix this goal. Preferably soon and not in 2022.
