So I messaged retro over a month ago about a new 100 title, and was told it'd be no problem. [16:17:19] Papyrusmaking increased to 100. I ground out 100 papyrus making and chose "Bookwurm" as the new title. "Odds on favorite" was a close second. I can't say I've ever had this much trouble getting a new title into the game. I wasn't told anyone else had reached it first. Almost 2 weeks ago I was assured it would be forth coming. I assume the delay is not because I told retro I wouldn't supply him with high ql paper? Help?

I won't touch much on the stream aspect, I see others have already commented on it, and it matches my goal, joking around and engaging with the community, whether it's playing when killing things or being very unmanly while checking out my ferret thread. What I do want to clarify is the PR term. I am not public relations; public relations is not a team we have. By this, I mean that there is a misconception with what some expect, a smooth and polished professional front that's your typical public relations. My role is community management. Community management differs in many ways, but the most significant difference is that my purpose is about engagement with players, I play the game, I joke around, and banter and I build relationships with existing players. I work on social media and have some work on marketing, but they are because we are a small team, community managers usually wind up taking on several roles such as these. So to clarify, the purpose of the streams is engaging in a live discussion, just like I join the discord to chat and joke around, community management is a very odd field, where metrics are hard, and you're juggling many different tasks and voices, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. P.s. I do have a personal stream channel; I started it after enjoying streaming wurm so much!

The obvious bonuses of having a deed are well known. I'd propose to introduce more village boons, villagers and mayors can work towards and add more overall content. System would work as follows: Introduce an NPC that starts near token called "Alderman" or Elder. The elder will require items for you to increase your deed bonuses, in higher incremenents. 1. Blacksmithing bonuses Based on village size, it would require sacrificing an amount of horseshoes, hammers, materials (nails, shafts, planks) and general BS items. The requirements would be based on tiers: a) Tier 1, sacrifice 10 ql 30 hammers, 5 ql 30 small anvils, 100 planks, 100 nails, 100 shafts. Reward: +10% faster blacksmithing creation timers. b) Tier 2: Sacrifice 25 ql 50 hammers, 10 ql 50 large anvils, small anvils, planks, shafts, nails, etc. Reward: +5% to blacksmithing skillgain. c) Tier 3: Sacrifice x amount of items, ql 75, should be at least triple of tier 2. Reward: +10% increase in ql when imping blacksmithing items. d) Tier 4: Sacrifice 100 ql 90 hammers, 100 ql 90 small anvils, 10 000 nails, 10 000 planks, 10 000 shafts, etc. Reward: An additional +5% blacksmithing skillgain. 2. Carpentry Same idea, with same tiers. a) Make mallets, chairs, tables, things like that. b) Make more stuff, but add finecarpentry as well. c) Make even more stuff. d) Make high difficulty high carpentry items, such as canopy beds, royal chairs, bookshelves, etc. The goal of this expanded system is to have more bonuses to deeds so you can feel you're working towards deed improvements, gives more satisfaction in grinding certain skills, helps newbies contribute to the village, adds bonuses in joining a deed and overall adds more content to the game. You can apply such bonuses to many skills , including religion where you can have boosts for : a) Increased favor gain b) Increased channeling skillgain c) Increased prayer skill d) More sermons per day. Depending on size of the deed, the numbers can be tweaked, but it would be a nice addition to the game.

Everything in game that can take damage should be repairable to be honest. It makes no sense that you can just magically repair 50 points of damage off a longsword, but cannot do the same with a whetstone or a pelt or compass. Repair a complex item such a dioptra through 1 action? Yes. A simple item such as a rift pauldron? Nope. +1 in any case P.S. Fyi Wilczan, hit me up and see if we can mend those items for you.

I would watch this, even if it was my ideas being denied. I would also watch this.

I keep asking to host a podcast or stream called "You think you do, but you really don't." - where I'd cover ideas that people bring up and say "No" to them in various ways. But alas, I've been denied my dream.

I’d say you mostly just came in on the wrong day. That was the first I’ve ever seen him talk about anything unrelated to Wurm on the official stream, and honestly he was doing it as a “let’s take a mental break from COVID” moment of levity. Everyone in the stream chat was happy and participating in the conversation from what I saw. And afterwards, he ran around in Wurm and answered questions about the game. Is there going to be ground-breaking information revealed in every Wurm Online stream? No. From a personal standpoint, I’d rather the game get streamed weekly, monkeying around or not, than the channel sit and collect dust between announcements or big news. Getting the game out there, seeing the faces behind the game, that’s important to new players and existing players alike. Last night just happened to cater more towards the existing players who might have needed a bit of fun together in all the turmoil of the world right now.

Since nobody bothered to post it, here it is: https://www.dropbox.com/s/q6f552w3x8zcez8/oldGV-u.zip?dl=1 This isn't a recreation. It's the official Golden Valley map as it looked back in 2016, complete with roads, and mines and everything else. Confirmed to work in WU with mods. If you don't want the mines, just delete the cave layer file and it should generate a new one and close all holes.

https://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Firemaking If you have lost your steel and flint, light a campfire and place a wood scrap inside. When the scrap is hot, remove it from the campfire, and right-click on your forge, oven, or other fire container to light it. 🤔 Lighting a fire can be done while moving, so long as you do not move too far away (two tiles) from the tile you are currently working on. You may move whilst lighting objects like torches and forges, but not creating a campfire

The basic gist of this is that you are able to make a map of your current server and use it to navigate that same server on a mini map (think live maps). The way the skill would work is, as you explore the actual server yourself( have to be there) you can add to a "map" as your skill progresses you are able to add more and more tiles to the "map" per "scan" of the area. the ability to add the tiles from the "scan" are effected by you "map" paper QL, Your current compass QL that you have activated to use the scan ability, and current skill level. it would look like this EX. Map QL= 50, Compass QL= 30, skill level=10 the max scan distance at 10 skill is 5 tiles x 5 tiles max tiles scanned at skill * ((map ql/100) *(compass ql))= percentage to be multiplied to max tiles, rounded up(above 5), 5 * (.5*.3)= .75 5 * .75 = 3.75 3.75 ^ 4 tiles (if 3.49 reduce to 3) or a square of 4 x 4 tiles that you can add to the map. (or reduced to 3 x 3 if below .5) skill progression for "Scan": 1= 1 x 1 tiles max 10 =5 x 5 tiles max 20 = 10 x 10 tiles max 30 = 15 x 15 tiles max 40 = 20 x 20 tiles max 50 = 25 x 25 tiles max 60 = 30 x 30 tiles max 70 = 35 x 35 tiles max 80 = 40 x 40 tiles max 90 = 50 x 50 tiles max 100(99.9) = 100 x 100 tiles max Skill progression of "Map Making": 1 = tiles are recorded 10 = roads may be applied to map 20 = roads are defined, some structures may appear on the map, mini map appears 30 = roads are well defined, structures appear more often, landmarks may appear on the map, mini map available 40 = roads will always recorded on map, all buildings will be recorded on map, landmarks will be recorded on map, mini map available 50 = map can now add points of interests, clay, tar, moss 70 = player can add 5 marks on the map/can navigate by cart or boat to points placed by player 90 = Player can add 10 marks on the map/can navigate by cart or boat to points placed by player 100(99.9) = player can travel to any deed, land mark, point of interest marked on their map(for server that the player is on) players can over write(clear/combine/overwrite) maps at 30 skill but maps ql will be damaged players can transfer/combine up to 50% randomly selected map to another map (same ql or higher) at 50 skill, 50% success rate, map will take damage on failure players can transfer 100% of the map to a new map (same ql or higher) at 70 skill, 50% success rate, map will take damage on failure player can transfer/combine 100% of the map to a new map (same ql or higher) at 90 skill, 75% success rate player can transfer/combine 100% of the map to a new map (any ql map) at 100(99.9) skill, 60% success rate, map will take damage on failure decay rate applies to map at normal rates in all containers as they currently are. can be sealed in a wax sealing kit to reduce decay up to 30% at 100(99.99) ql. ***New Spell: "Seal" can slow decay of maps by up to 90% dependent on skill cast. any cast over 100 will be capped at up to 5% additional decay prevention (i.e. 110 cast)*** maps can crumble(be destroyed) at 90 - 100 damage randomly. No map of mines can be made. No mini map of mines will be displayed, only a black screen will appear if mini map is active and player is in mine.

From two weeks or so, I have some strange lag on Desertion. It happens like once per 1 - 2 minutes, it last minimum 5 seconds, up to 10 seconds. On "normal" lag, when you queue, for example, 8 actions, when lag ends you see that some of those actions already happened. On this lag, when you queue some actions, and lag starts, 10 seconds pass for example, and when the lag ends, none of those actions are done. It looks like whole communication with a server stops for this period of time. Don't think it is couse of spike of players couse of bonus skillgain, it already happened like a week before that.

To start this off I'm not trying to bait, troll or cause an issue with my questions. For the first time I decided to watch the stream for Wurm Online ran by our PR guy Retro. It was announced in my event window so I popped over and checked it out. I was expecting to hear news about past, future or current updates about Wurm Online. After watching for about 35 minutes the only thing Wurm related was his Wurm client playing in the background and the Twitch channel with the WO Offical name. Now as I tread lightly and being to approach the line in the sand, this stream didn't seem to pertain a whole lot to Wurm Online. There was discussion of ferrets, fun and silly self imagery painting that Retro did of himself and a lady who I was not familiar with. Entertaining to the right crowd who enjoys a chill and funny social stream. I was however disappointed in the lack of actual Wurm Online content that was shown or discussed in the roughly 35-45 minutes I watched. Once again, this was my first time viewing so maybe Wurm content is held later in the stream. So with that being said, it seemed to me it was more of a stream about Retro and not Wurm Online. I'm not knocking the actual stream, it seemed laid back and very chill which is a good image for potential players and current players. What I am knocking is the fact that this stream was announced in game to attract the attention of Wurm Online players to come into a stream hoping to see Wurm content or maybe have some conversations about Wurm Online and not random trolly questions that are asked in chat. Granted, my actual view time was less than an hour so maybe I missed the bits and pieces about Wurm Online. So now I move onto my question: is this stream about Wurm Online or is it Retros stream featuring Wurm Online?

If Morrowind and Zelda can have iron and silver bows, why can't we? Apparently steel bows are also a thing, in ancient real world, and the only real drawback to a metal bow in the real world is it's much heavier weight. “He teaches my hands to make war, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze”.

I don't like a deed bonus based on village population. Many Wurmians, such as myself, don't want 100 villagers in some ginormous deed.

If i remember right they was from some xanadu event, togather with oak waterskins. There was some other unusual stuff too, but don't remember
  17. 1 point
Yes, around 2008 there was a bug where you could make bows from iron if I remember correctly. There was one for sale years ago

Fixed! Thank you for letting us know.

I'd rather see deed bonuses based on things like number of (premium) villagers and the collective skill total of the village, than more things that can be bought or easily done solo.

The properties file is not something that is created, you need to specify that, it is usually provided in the downloads. There are many errors in your setup for example the mods folder, toolbelt-0.1 Try to disable the SeasonConfigureMod it could be outdated

As in title. Lately got mission, when I needed to sac nogumps. Those have this "fun oh so fun" mechanic, when he takes your part of gear, then after a while throw it to you, slightly damaged. In one fight, nogump did this with my pauldron, in next fight with my medallion. Both are damaged and I cannot do anything with that.

well i can at least ease your mind a little about your characters, all that info is saved on the actual server, as long as you can remember the character names then you can log on them even if your entire computer is fried and you buy a new computer.

Then you'd be doing something likely to reach a very wide audience outside of the game, showing how versatile the game can be if you think about it, meaning you could then be part of VEN and get the benefits they do. Does sound like a fair exchange. Have a great deal of respect for you mate, but this crappy forum can't even automerge posts, I think we'd rip apart the system if we tried to put some form of reward into it.

hey-hey... Did you watch the stream?.. Did you have questions to ask? Were you curious to learn something from the pr guy? Than.. did you ask any of the questions on your mind? Streams are afaik not with a planned schedule, at 5minutes - showing news, at 15 there's a demo of a feature, at 40 there's some testing on PTS with players and a gm or 2.. etc.. For 1.. there's not too much to change for a month in a small-er team or community, sometimes things go slow, as he mentioned he's gathering more news, etc to make a "better" valrei post with several changes to announce, rather than check the news at a glance and move. Especially with bigger changes.. you get to a point where a lot is done.. but smaller details could take more than expected and delay things unexpectedly long-er. As a tip.. if you are interested in something... there were 50 people watching the stream, and most of the questions in chat were read on stream and answered, you could have had any of the topics that excite you answered if you have only asked about it, you don't get that on many places. BTW: Somebody.... gift retro a decent horse...

Streaming Wurm is a tough thing to do, the gameplay is usually far away from action. I think @Retrogradedoes a great job on that.

Around 11am CEST the Celebration server experienced an outage. The cause: MySQL 8 has a default of 30 days retention on binary log files, which in our case are of a substantial size. They filled up the data drive that stores Celebration's game data and resulted in errors from both the map saving and the database. The server seems to have shutdown cleanly as soon as this occurred. The resolution: We've reduced the default and increased the size of the drive. We do not need 30 day retention of binary log files due to our server backup method. Other notes: Max was unable to restore services due to the nature of the outage and I was unable to be reached prior to 8am Eastern US time. I will be working with Max on a direct communication method that will cut through my phone's Do Not Disturb time so that I can be reached. We enabled sleep bonus for Celebration only upon the restart due to the duration of the outage.

There is evidence in existence that the feature has not been abused. There is absolutely no evidence of the feature abuse. Still you think we should remove it because 'it's possible to abuse even though no one knows how and it has never been abused before"? If my 13 year old is playing the game and suddenly someone starts talking about religion, politics, or sexually mature content but there is no mod present to mute them, I would be glad for a feature such as this. Getting rid of it is irresponsible, especially when there has not been a single recorded instance of its abuse.

They should though, or longer. For an object that will persist for a good 30+days whether they ever return to use it or not there needs to be some level of commitment required. If a new account could make a shack in their first hour of playing then why wouldn't they spend 5 hours making a bunch of .shacks and then leave never to be seen again while the rest of us, and any subsequent new players, have to deal with that. People already complain about all the "abandoned" areas and how hard it is to find a place to build (granted most of them can't be bothered to walk 45 minutes from the spawn or go off the road 100 tiles to find something). Imagine how much worse that will be when every new character spams random houses because they can't think of anything better to do in their early days.

The average WU server is roughly that much easier (or say 50% which is still quite close) - and it loses all the fun for me in a few months.
