This is kinda old project at M10 on Xanadu, connecting my deed to highway. I actually finished it last December, but never bothered too much with screen shots and always planned to get better pic before posting, but what ever...First picture is from above the crossroad. Second is seen from lake towards same spot and 3rd is the only pic I found showing things more or less before I started (It looks pretty much same, but plenty of mountain, especially dirt layer is already lower than original there). So this was a project I started after opening West Hammer Lake Canals (I'm on purpose saying opening, not finishing, as they are not a finished product. I simply concentrated mostly on other things after opening (and took 2 long brakes from game), as they were passable by any boat as is. Polishing will/is happening over time). Now for this road, I'm well aware I could simply have made a tunnel from Hermit's Rest and connected that to the highway going North/South at M11. But I had done so much tunneling, it was time to do some surface mining then. Besides Hermit's Rest needs a Grand Canyon. Also Hermit's Rest is still mostly unbuilt as a deed, because I wanted to have the road done before committing to any other terraforming. So huge changes to be expected in immediate area in next half a year - 2 years.

if you need a journal to get people to go to a rift that sounds like rifts aren't enjoyable and people are avoiding them 😅

With the amount of artifacts available it would be really easy to locate a person carrying a certain artifact (for example scale of lib, which you're 100% gonna take when you're going out to pvp), so it would pretty much allow you to locate somebody on the other side of the map whenever you want, which doesnt really line up with the "recent" Locate Soul changes. Also it would be way too easy to find artifacts, isn't it supposed to be hard? Anyway thats a -1 from me.

I agree. There are so many actions where the moment is wasted. Instead of getting nothing from tending, how about the moment granting 10 times the .000001 normally given?

Worked on in your own time, not timegated, it's at your leisure Worked on in your own time, not timegated, it's at your leisure Worked on in your own time, not timegated, it's at your leisure, gained in the process of doing other things anyway 1) Nobody here is playing a power card but you, nobody is saying they're annoyed to have to deal with other people. You're making this up to fit your own argument. Stop. Nobody will take you seriously doing that. 2) what's a non-ordinary rift?

If they are close to release... no better time than the current.. everybody's stuck at home and dumping their money on games to pass the time and random things... just throwing money through windows...

During one of my most recent discussions here the topic of names came up. So it got me thinking... How did you come up with your name for your main character? Was it your child nickname? The name of a pet? or was just a random collection of letters? Naturally this question is for a character you created yourself or was created for you. Tell us your story! In addition to your name, share a memorable story involving your early days on Wurm. Lets see if your stories are as colorful as mine was (to me at least!)

We all know the deal; grind 100 faith and all magic is at your fingertips. By 50 channeling, most spells are pretty effective and enchant shatters are minimal. But what if higher levels of channeling opened up new uses for existing spells, some examples being: Casting morning fog as a helmet enchant at 70 channeling to make the wearer immune to beestings Casting strongwall at 60 channeling on statues to reduce their decay rate offdeed. Casting pillar of ice at on larders at 70 channeling to spawn snowballs in their iceboxes. Casting cleanse on a player at 80 channeling to remove disease etc Little uses for existing spells that unlock with higher levels of channeling (reflecting much more fine tuned control on the priest's part). Nothing aimed at PvP, just little extra uses for spells one may not cast too much.

A relatively small suggestion, bottles would be a pottery item that acts like a jar, but can be sealed with a peg like barrels can. Maybe make it hold 3kgs to make it a bit more distinct. I'll be honest, the main reason I want this is so I can play brewery master and hand out bottles of hard cider on special occasions.

It would be a nice idea if when you casted a locate artifact you could switch between 4 options. Locate for Magranon Locate for Fo Locate for Vynora Locate for Libilia. And it would present a random one belonging to that god.

Just that, and the amount of tilt/pitch in direct correlation to the amount of wind speed and nautical sailing speed. I can't feel like a pilot unless I'm about to capsize when I turn hard to port. Disclaimer: For some people Finn need this because they feel I am encroaching upon their liberties by somehow suggesting this suggestion be made requirement. In no way is this being thrown as an infringement upon current mechanics. It's a suggestion which is to go far as to say it's the opinion of one person and is only put forth for review to all peers. Wow this took too much time to type, why do people take such offense at suggestions I feel I need to type this. I'll never understand.

I was surprised to see something with more than Sklotopolis, so I logged in, just to investigate. Could not see any signs of teraforming, building or raise any players in any channels. The 234 active player count sure seems fake. Also, when you type /who, it seems that command is disabled (big surprise).

My nick is one that I very extensively use for decades. Came as an abbreviation from a longer nick from the time of my teenage. Had to be 3 letters, I was quite into playing pinball which meant I usually played full nights with a single coin and filled quite some highscore slots... which allowed 3 letters only. The name Jaz stuck since - even some of my RL customers know me by that name and also included in my freelance business name. BTW as it is not coming from Jazz or any English origins it should be pronounced more like Yaz - the leading J is like the one in "yay". My best memories from my first weeks on Indy about 6 years ago are when my friends convinced me that horses are useless in Wurm and we should not bother to be able to ride... and when a cavebug ruined our mine floor (they were that mean back then) and we could not destroy those nasty beasts ... I think Pingpong came and cleared it for us.

It was back in 2010 my wurm adventure started. I was 16 and it sounded cool! 😎 At the time I didn't know it was a word with a meaning to it.🤣 Me and two friends spawned at The Howl. We walked for what seemed like hours until we reached the shores of SW Independence. We took refuge at a village called Croc Knob and got well fed by the mayor Kronius. We saw an island in the distance and got in love with it. We started to work on a row boat. It was made by the finest olive trees, cut down by my friend wielding a rake. When we finally made it the island we got ambushed by bears and wolves, back to The Howl we went. We did the same thing again and planted our first deed. One of the two friends are still playing wurm with me today.

So, gonna age myself here. LONG ago there were various online chat and places you could go to play games like chess, cards, and word games against other players in real time. I played euchre, poker, scrabble, and occasionally other games using the name ChampagneDreams_BeerBudget. Actually that was my second name, gonna digress and tell you the story of my first name: MaggieMae1967. Maggie Mae was my dog's name at the time, and 1967 being my birth year. This was in the age of A/S/L. All the pervs would hang out and ask anyone appearing female ASL and proceed to try to hit on you in the early, immature ways of the social internet. I was there to just play games. Well, one night I got sick of it so one night I answered 64/male/San Fran (cause I am a bit of a smartass) When he stammered... but.. your name.. And I told him yes, but in 1967 I was sitting on the pier in San Fran and realized I was a female trapped in a male's body, and that's when Maggie Mae was born. Remember, this was over 20 years ago, when we weren't as socially aware. I got called a myriad of names. Well, I continued to use that response until I was sick of it, then decided I needed a name that was ambiguous, and was tongue in cheek. That's when ChampagneDreams came about. So in one of those game rooms, playing chess using the ChampagneDreams name I met my now significant other. We played a lot of games together, chatted, just chilled. We lived 6 hours apart and one day he said "let's meet for dinner". We did. Many times. Then we started living together. One day I got angry about something and he called me a dragon. He started calling me dragon whenever I was being intense about something. Then he convinced me to try Planetside (the old, original one) with him. I went to create a character and started to put in Champagne, and he was like... no has to be dragon something.. so ChampagneDragon came about.

That's the crux of the matter there. 100 rifts imply forcing players to play on a certain timeframe and not when they are free to do so. And the idea of having optional choices for goals is actually a pretty cool one that I haven't though about . Do 100 rifts OR Kill 5000 trolls (random ex) OR Build 3 Valrei Monuments solo (they still require quite a lot of mats) I would be curious how many people would choose rifts over those 2 other options. One of the greatest freedoms Wurm offers vs many other mmos on the market and it is a gem due to that, is the fact you can choose your own playstyle. No playstyle is enforced. You want to live like a hermit on top of a mountain ? Go for it bud. Want to make your own island? Do it. Want to pvp? You have the option. Want to live in relative safety in a big village? The choice is on the table. Want to live like a nomad? Grab a tent, your horse and whatever tools you can carry. Or a sailboat. The option is there. Rifts force a playstyle. One that is timegated and relies in having the luck of RL commitments not getting in the way. Add to that the fact that rifts are simply boring as heck and my brain starts to think "Why am I doing this to myself?"

I mean to recall that having been suggested already. In fact, herbs in planters stay about 4 weeks if picked daily, but do not terminate at the same time. It is quite inconvenient to have to replant out of cycle. At the moment, the destruction of 3 herb types as collateral damage of a bug fix killed 3 herbs in the middle of their lifecycle. I would like a chance to unplant herbs, destructive for them or not, allowing to replant a planter. If no other possibility, let it "sterilize" in a furnace to get empty once glowing from heat (is overly wogical that planted herbs survive that).

Two pages fiercely defending the goal refusing to see that most people cant fit in the box and now you are suddenly fine with the option to forego the goal completely? Seems like arguing for the sake of arguing. I enjoyed rifts far more before the addition of all the new stupid ai, more often than not i harvest nothing at the end and only attend because of the journal the few times it actually fits my zone.
  27. 1 point
They're only unconvincing because you want to not understand why people would hate this goal, and so far just about every single comment about it has been right. It's out of place, it's timegated moreso than anything else in the game, you cannot proactively work on it in your own time, it doesn't really introduce a new concept to the journal since runes appear in it much earlier and for people who want to finish the journal and want the cape while also working during the week, it's going to take multiple years to complete and that's if you're super sweating going to rifts
  28. 1 point
Retro said "work continues as planned" so I would take that to mean that nothing has changed and a 2nd quarter release date is still the target.

so do we have any idea when the new server will come? make fun of me for not reading 30 pages of forums if its already answered
  30. 1 point
The main reasons are of timegating and the number itself. It forces people into a certain narrow window to do rifts, which honestly is one of the most annoying game design aspects of mmos. "Do x action between 18:00 and 20:00 for super rewards". But only between that timeframe. As for your example, except the global spells one, all of them are soloable really. You can do them in your own time at your own pace. But rifts? It implies modelling your patterns to something the game decides when it happens. Not to mention the insane number of hours needed to complete it. It's 12.5 days for christ's sake on top of other goals that can burn out players. 12 days for an entire journal goal. Not a chapter. But 1 goal. 300 RL hours dedicated to just that goal. Do you not think it is a bit insane to impose that sacrifice vs. a reward that's semi-useful and a cape that many have equated to "a lazy design" ? This issue with rifts is that the reward in itself isn't all that tantalizing. There's a huge imbalance here between time invested and final reward. I hope they find a better mechanic to complete that goal.

Rest assured, we're still all working from home and are quite used to it, work continues as planned.

Rifts take about 3 hours when you factor in travelling and whatnot for other servers, maybe up to 4 if you're travelling across xan and back. Considering that people generally work for 8 hours, sleep for 8 hours, commute from place to place, work out, socialize, all that stuff, 3 hours for a single point out of 100 is a bit much. "not meant to be done in a few months" and "one journal goal out of 10 takes years" are two different things. in an afternoon of hunting on cele it's rare to even find one rift camp, but if someone wants to spend as much effort as it used to take to find uniques to find 1/100 of a journal goal all the power to them

retro appears to be not here to make a snarky comment so i'll be filling in for him today So the problem boils down to "progress in these systems are timegated compared to any other goal and I don't like it"? no need to thank me, and remember, rifts suck

It is done! After a bit more than 6 weeks my new Fo priest was the last in a row of priests who reached their goals: I would like to thank everybody who joined our group as priests and listeners. A very big "Thank You!" goes to all those friends who just stayed with us and spent a lot of their time as listeners. Without you this could not have been achieved in such a short amount of time. You are awesome!

The circumstances of my life and the global, environmental, and political climate of the world pushed my subconscious to desire to (again) seek out the safety of Wurm's mantle. I live in a dank metropolis and can't currently move due to financial and health issues. I yearn to run through open, unrestricted, unpolluted fields (good luck being able to do that in our world), to encounter mystery and surprises, to travel. I want to live in a rural area and have a cozy tiny house, off grid, with a lush backyard and a chicken coop. Yes, that is one of my main dreams. Wurm offers this to me. It may be just "Java", but you, Wurm, give me serenity and beauty, my own crops, animals to care for, seas to cross. All of us here are seeking something, and there is no shame in any of it. Some of us are quite addicted, and addiction comes from some deep place, and I honor it. I honor it in you. How many of us here seek respite in an isolated deed and do not care to interact? No shame. I honor all of it. How many just want someone to chat with about stupid things while entertaining their DNA's yearning for "hunting and gathering"? It's all honorable. Some of us may be in a good place behind the screen. Others may not be. We're all here in this moment in time, and I like to pause and marvel at it. In my heart, I don't feel that we'll always have the internet (where the world is going and etc). But that we got together in this alternate universe and created and communicated with one another using something akin to telepathy - is nothing short of a wonder. Poignant post? I have that touch, I guess. May our Wurm remain green, its seas alive, its bounty available to everyone regardless of income, its kings and queens loyal to their subordinates, and its Impalongs plentiful. <3 Thank you Wurm Online <3

Was my first idea too. But: I would appreciate if there were an action to open the visor of the great helmets so that the face were, at least partially, visible. I would like that even if such choice would result in diminished protection under that option, so that you could close/open visor. Honestly, I would hate the option from other MMOs to let visble helmets vanish completely while worn. That is ridiculous imho.

Good idea. Adds a bit of complexity to spellcasting without adding difficulty, and could increase the usefulness of some more rarely used spells.
