Just my 2 coppers: What I do not understand is why people expect to receive any financial compensation for playing a game. I mean: a game is a game, it's about having fun in your leisure time. It's not a job where you invest time and effort to earn your salary, nor is it a capital investment where you spend money, hoping to earn some profit! Playing a game is nothing you have to do; it's just a way to spend your free time. In that it's not much different from spending time with your friends in a pub - and nobody would expect the pub owner to give you some of your money back when you leave the place late at night after having fun, right? I have the feeling that some players have forgotten that they are just playing a game. It's not about earning real money or even getting back part of their "investment". Just my personal opinion

That depends on if B and D are feeding their families (IRL) by selling bricks, or they just need coins to fund their deed's upkeep. If it's for upkeep, okay, go ahead.... hell I might even buy from them once or twice. But the guy that spams trade chat every 5 minutes for three years straight isn't getting my business. Said player needs to go find a real job.

There was a pretty vocal push for this in the priest thread, so I think it's deserving of a proper thread since the reason for bounce back was pretty weak (and I mean that in the most polite way possible) For years people have wanted a spell with this effect so they wouldn't need to do silly things like balancing bad and severe wounds with bad healing covers. Now that the priest changes have happened with some new spells being added, now seems a perfect time to make this happen. There are a lot of good reasons to make this happen, beyond adding value to gods already on the table. Mag is lacking in good spells for him to cast on items, since Stone Strike is pretty niche in its own way. Less actions = less chances to score an affinity This in its own way is a good balance point. It means this is only likely to be used by the people who need to get some serious grind in where their current skills might hinder them (high stamina/path of power accounts) Offers more spell variety for tools So far, we only really slap one or two casts on our tools. We either have only CoC or WoA, both, or BoTD (with BoTD being rarer since Lib spells on Freedom are pretty crappy as it is) By adding a spell for slower actions, we increase the variety we see on tools, opening more options for priests to fund their premium time now RMT is going bye bye and most importantly, give a better player experience without needing to do dumb stuff we don't enjoy (wound balancing) In the run up to Steam, this could be considered a great feature to add to the list of things brought in to polish the game for release. How well Steam goes could be affected pretty heavily by the current Wurm population. With a lot of rocky announcements and general unease from the community, I think this would do a lot to help relieve the older, veteran playerbase who want to see some good QoL that will help them play.

Can you make a change to the armour stand graphic to show the type of armour stored? Like if mostly chain mail inside of it then have the stand look like chain armour set. Same for cloth, leather, studded, plate, etc. I have a few stands and they all look the same, but I keep different armour types/sets in each.

Samon Master (or something related to Samon?) Wiki: Gravel is usually used in zen gardens, rather than sand, because it is less disturbed by rain and wind. The act of raking the gravel into a pattern recalling waves or rippling water, known as samon (砂紋)[15] or hōkime (箒目), has an aesthetic function. Zen priests practice this raking also to help their concentration. Achieving perfection of lines is not easy. Rakes are according to the patterns of ridges as desired and limited to some of the stone objects situated within the gravel area.

For starters in 2 weeks this amount of money( http://jenn001.game.wurmonline.com/mrtg/economy.html ) which had any value(still dropping), wont be worth more than a bit saved in your recycle bin on a pc/laptop kept and rusting in your attic. That's just the fluid silver amount, there's no statistic how much people have spent on items in the game. Investment.. whoever did invest anything more than premium time to get skills and experience the game to the fullest.. well none of that money have any return. ( a lot of people have invested a lot into hota statues and such, or dragon armor etc.. ) Upkeep provides permission enforcement and decay protection for whatever investment in time or money you've put on items you keep on your deed.... As long as you pay.. it's yours there... else why do you pay for it?( to enjoy walking on few tiles and examining them with a name?) Keep telling me how wurm silver/money aren't an investment and how you aren't supposed to get it back, IF that have been the case for more than 10years and now with a coin toss, it's not anymore. (I DON'T MEAN ANYTHING ELSE BESIDES THE FLAT FACT OF THAT) We're using same currency that you pay real money for... and there's no other ingame currency to replace it.. making it actually pixie dust(2 weeks, we "fix" that).. you've had the euro/silver tied for years. Bunch of people come and go.. sell when they go away and buy back same accounts if possible when they return or... buy new ones with similar or make-do skillset to be able to enjoy the game.. and not start with a new character.. being able to do... relatively.. nothing... and needed to spend countless days and nights grinding skills to just look at same slow action bars.. but at least.. be able to do something more.. "YOU claim wurm's going to die with no rmt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" - No.. have I? Have anybody? 0.o People are just REALLY concerned/scared that none of last decisions have player/CUSTOMER's/ interest in mind... that's all. Wurm have a GOOD history of dealing with problems the wrong way.. you have problem with 1 or 2, 3, 5 people - you change the game so nobody ever is able to do what they did, none of them get penalized, none of them gets banned(even as softban for a time).. but a new sketchy nerf is introduced and all suffer from the changes. (happened more than 1-2-10 times.. it's kind of a wurm book of solving issues) (I do not believe it's a good practice to penalize everybody when 1-2 rotten apples decide to use a glitch and not first report it asap(FULLSTOP)) Other thing is .. problems and promises take 2years to solve, lately with WU support dropped.. QoL changes did take only about 2 months at most to get into the game(or so it seemed.. from forum suggestion to reality). Wurm STILL LACKS a person to solve economy issues of the game. @Mordraug bricks/mortar/etc.. sure.. I'll spend 1-2 weeks 1-3hours a day chatting in GL-freedom and making such bulk materials... than sell them, than I WONT be having a reason to pay with IRL money for premium for a year(add upkeep money to that.. it's so ez to make these.. lets just pay for upkeep/premiums and a new supreme mpk wagon set to "worth" 400 silver) How is that helping the game? At that point.. I'm literally pressing 1 button, dragging a few items around and chatting for entertainment.. and I'm messing up the economy of bulk in the game with my higher than most masonry skill. How is that helping the game, you think you have figured that removing 5-10-20 people that do this solves anything.. but old 'villains' just get replaced, nothing new.. there's a new open slot.. to be filled. Could go deeper.. but that will lead to other changes(as for whatever reason lately somebody reads player feedback and REACTS to it..., EXCEPT... they read comments from people who cant see further than their nose.. and later the changes seep in for all other players regardless.. leading to the situation where .. 5 kids get really happy.. while rest just wonder what happened... Do I give a **** about the RMT change? - not really; I never rmt'd (I do not like the change for other reasons) .....

Hi. Good to hear you have solved the problem. I'm sorry for late reply, I only get pings about new thread posts once a week. I've not given up on WA, I just have very little time. But recently have fixed a couple of bugs and issues. And am still working on new version of WA, though it's going extremely slowly, so prefer not to give any hopes.

i remember when once i was riding a hellhorse, it untamed, attacked me, opened itself for attack, and got 1 shot by my staff all within a second of untaming, some animals just weren't meant to live on this world you can do weird workarounds like give an alt your deed and then don't give yourself attack permissions on deed to make it so they're not attackable by you (but with how awful epic home server rep is you'll probably just go hunted and kill it even though you had lawful on) but it really should be an option to completely disable attacking them

Might become harder to find people willing to be paid 1$ of non real money per hour of work without the legal option to cash it out... so no idea on the bulk market... but when I see the usual sellers leaving the ship and selling their accounts before it's too late... one might have some reasons to be afraid. <insert everything is fine memes>

Personally I think it is not a good idea to throw AML into the debate. The AML hysteria is widely about geopolitics (full spectrum dominance) and big brother style mass surveillance and curbing civil freedoms by removing cash. Apologetics are misplaced, and such controversial stuff should be hold off forum debates. Insofar phrases like "Wurm is no longer able to get away with being a kid" are mere propaganda and inappropriate. Rolf and CCAB made an absolutely grown up and defensible decision when allowing and even encourageing RMT. Withdrawing it now has to do with the changed economic situation and the need to join steam. As I wrote before, CC/GC had not much negotiation leverage about Valve's contract conditions, so they had to sacrifice RMT for the right decision to join steam. That is all. RMT was not liked by everyone, but it was a legitimate albeit bold choice by Rolf and CCAB. And it worked for quite a time.

The problem with RMT, is that the act of depositing money within a game (buying coins from player/system), then withdrawing it (selling coins to players[/system]), effectively turns it into a bank. Criminals funding their cartels from the proceeds of in-game sales, or cleaning money through the game itself, are now the responsibility of the Game Developers who're facilitating it, thus legal action can be taken should they ignore it due to a) thinking it's fine by ignorance & b) not having satisfactory prevention systems in place. Obviously, the levels are presently marginal so no one cares, but Steam care. And if Wurm joins Steam for marketing/exposure, we have to care because they need to fulfil their regulatory obligations. So although I don't really care about this, & black markets will exist anyway (how stringently cracked down on is a different matter guys... unless you're literally slapping it in their face, an UO/EA blind eye will probably occur...), the rationale makes sense. A game developer is more likely to lose money from the fines incurred from allowing a criminal exploit to fester as opposed to the lost revnue from RMT itself - it's primarily a legal concern. At the end of the day, the move to Steam is to increase Wurm enjoyability (& revenue) by increasing the player base (alone, hence the Silver price reductions) - surely that's the real appeal of a game over making pocket change. The same as a kid throwing a few punches gets a scolding, but as an adult gets prison time for the same act, Wurm is no longer able to get away with being a kid - it has Adult responsibilities now, joining the big league with Steam.

Tbh i dont think there will ever be a merge, even if they say there might be "sometime" if something happens a certain way. One out of two will happen, is my prediction; 1. Steam goes well, WO gets abandoned by players and devs/support. 2. Steam goes bad, WO gets abandoned.

I won’t go into it too much and I am not about to read 20 pages - somehow I missed all of this happening. I think it shows poor faith to change RMT after so many were told Wurm believed in it, but it hardly affects me as I don’t plan on selling my accounts anyways and I have gone from selling silver to buying it But not allowing account sharing has serious implications for PvP serves, notably writ/deed holder accounts but most importantly priests I own one of the best priests in the game, it basically has maxed out stats - even then it’s borderline useless, there is no way a single person could keep up with enchants for a large village EVEN IF THEY MADE WURM A FULL TIME JOB. I hope account sharing is reconsidered because I just can’t see how priests will functionally work If you ever wonder why PvP servers are dead it’s stuff like this

I remember when I first started playing Wurm, it was around the time that New Town was being constructed. There wasn't anything there, it was all relatively flat and only a few sparse buildings were being put up. I had to cross some water to get to the other side where there was some clay, and I was trying to make a clay jar to carry water with me. (Someone told me that I should do that because you never know if you'll be without water.) I was attacked by some mob that killed me, and that was the repetitive nature of the game for awhile until I eventually joined a deed. Community was as helpful as it is now compared to back then. That was almost 11 years ago, and we had roughly around the same population then as we do now, maybe a bit less. I don't believe the problem would be with the population, as we've had ups and downs over the decade of Wurm being around... With us being about 100+ players than back then. It is mostly just a trial and error with the game rewarding those that have patience and persistence. I'd definitely recommend any new players to join a deed since that would provide protection and even people with knowledge to answer questions (though CA Chat is around for that too now), but its definitely going to be a tough start to the game if you are going in expecting that you can do everything solo without knowing all the quirks/Wogic that Wurm Online has compared to most other games that people come from. Would be nice for new players to have a village to be put into at first perhaps? Since they might not realize how to go about finding one. Most aren't entirely familiar with the PM system right off the bat, as I've tried to provide help for a few new players via PM but they almost always make the comment: "Oh I didn't even see this!" etc.

Subscriptions are a scam. Think about all the free offers you get for things. "Try free for one month, then we will just auto bill you unless you cancel". How many times have people tried free, decided they didn't like it and completely forgot about the service, until BAM, there it is on your credit card bill. There are so many subscriptions for things now. As a consumer, it is a nightmare. Need to move to a model where people can pay one time for a thing they want.
  49. 1 point
Opening a new server on Steam, just doing the same game mechanics and same subscription model as current WO will end is complete failure. almost every sub you get there will be from existing players on WO. Some will keep going on the old WO servers, but many will abandon them completely. This would just be a money transfer to a new platform, where you also have to give some of it to Steam. Having the possibility of a merge from WO to the Steam servers is a horrible idea, UNLESS the merge is simply moving the WO cluster to Steam, but keeping it completely isolated from any of the new servers. Saying the merge is a possibility is sending a message to everyone that "at some point, we will destroy the market completely and make your hard earned skills pointless". Launching a new server on steam will get some additional traction, but tell me, what do you think a new person will choose, when presented with WU or WO on Steam? I'm all for making the move to Steam, but drop the subscription model. Just deploy it on the WU platform and come up with an alternate form of revenue than the dead subscription model. Also, congrats on the new role! I've always loved your work on the game. I just feel bad that you might be in a more visible position as the execs head down this path of darkness.
