theft from other players in an mmo is always an incredibly grey area. A new player might think "thats stupid" but they get to think that with all their belongings that a veteran didn't steal for fun. lockpicking and stealing goods is a PvP action, and as such belongs only on the PvP server.

Wurm feels like home to me. When I log into my deed, I am among MY land, MY trees, MY enclosures, MY buildings, looking at MY ships in MY harbour. And why do they all feel so close to me? Because I made them all, exactly how I wanted them to be. I also bought the land and I upkeep it. My land is not some instanced cubicle to decorate that doesn't really have any real estate presence in the world. It actually takes up a chunk of Wurm - my own personal piece of it, and it interacts with it in real time. You can sail by it, you can come in to visit (I have a guest house! ) and you can utilize it in so many different ways. There is a farm there, a shipyard, vineyard, brewery, horses, homes, bridges, kitchens, and soon even bees. My stable has a chamber where I keep my saddles and extra horse paraphernalia. It really is home and I never found another game where all this is possible to such a degree. Perhaps such a game has recently come into existence, but meh... too late for them. Wurm is home already. I am happy here. Additionally - while I understand that there are players who are dissatisfied with them - I absolutely love the Wurm mechanics. I have embraced all the updates and content additions through the years. I have observed the developers understand and maintain this uniquely Wurm atmosphere and play style and support it with their updates that keep that feeling alive. I enjoy how in tune they are with the game feel. Wurm is so much better than when I joined and in so many incredible ways. Again, not a sentiment shared by all - I understand that - but I truly believe it. Have all the updates gone along my wishes? Not all... for instance, I am still not sure how I will adapt to this new third person Wurm that is tearing at the very fabric of my soul. But I will have to find a way. You can't have it all. But most updates were simply amazing. Retro's Valrei International is now my favorite literature, right up there with War and Peace, because of the additions it announces on regular basis. In Wurm, I feel the freedom. I can do what I want, go where I want, experience what I want, and none of that is dictated by a raiding schedule or in-game obligations. In fact, I can leave for a month or not log in on those busy days, and things will still be OK! When I come back, my Wurm is waiting. Just like the theme song promised. I simply cannot explain it, really. I love riding through the forests near my deed and seeing how the trees have grown. I love seeing the sap on the maples and knowing that today is probably a good day to pull out my bucket and the wax sealing kit. I love exploring old deeds and reminiscing about what may have been there. I love sailing (yes, I am crazy like that!). Even the grinding, which is boring and repetitive, somehow doesn't bother me in Wurm. Probably because when I do that, I can hear the birds chirping outside the window that I built, the horses which I raised moving by the fences I made, the water shimmering under my ships in the harbour which I personally shaped. Also, because of how valuable high skills become when you had to work for them for some time. In Wurm, I take things slow... sometimes too slow. I have no raids to attend, no crazy schedules to maintain, no quotas to meet. I have no one to outshine with my gear. In Wurm, CoC or WoA are the desirable enchants, not Swords of Thousand Truths with Super-Cala-Fragalistic Nuclear Chain Lightning charges. In Wurm, my rare leatherworking tools are my most cherished possessions. To me, Wurm is real. And I have only scratched the surface. And now, here I go getting all nostalgic about it. Look what you made me do! But I used to be a crazy raider, power player, intense grinder, high-level competitor, massive guild leader type of a dude. Not anymore. The Wurm Retirement Home is my speed now. And it feels soooo much more fun! So, stop by when you are passing by Garden of Fo on Celebration and say "hi". I will probably be doing something on my deed - something in preparation for doing something else, so that I can do something else entirely which will eventually allow me to do what I really want to do. And it'll probably take me a week just to set up. But I'll be loving every minute of it!

I recently had few months brake with Wurm but now I'am back. Why? Couse, despite of all the flaws, there is no other game like Wurm Online.

I enjoy playing Wurm, simple as that. I like the mood of the game, I like the look of a foggy harbor filled with hell hounds, I like sailing around and seeing everyone's creations and the natural wonders. I have a nice little deed that I enjoy improving from time to time and I love the skills I have worked on. I don't use Wurm as an income stream and I don't spend more than I can afford (usually!) and I take breaks when I need to so it never becomes an issue of pressure.

So i was trying to fill low book shelf just to find out to my great sadness that maximum amount of books(items) that can be placed is 11 It looks really empty and not very useful for storing books. Would be nice if amount of books that can be placed can be increased as clearly there is plenty more room Also would be nice if we could flip almanacs and journals verticly so they can be stored this way too

I honestly don't understand why people want to be able to have a single priest that does everything, or a single character who can do anything. That was never the intended result; different kinds of priests exist for a reason. At the point where you expect to be 100% self-sufficient and never rely on alliance/village/kingdom members, or trade for things, you might as well be playing a single-player game.

(original comment retracted) Not pleased with priest change at all. I wish we could just lump them all into one character. Or at least just 1 light and 1 dark priest. Maybe link all the lights for favor reasons? Something? Hard to swallow change here, but in light of some other news I heard, I'll probably hang around a bit and see where it goes.

Honestly about lockpicking offdeed I would totally support that. There is indeed too much protectionism in-game that promotes too much "littering", too much garbage lying around, hundreds of boats, wagons, carts. It should be a player's responsibility to take care of his items, if he leaves his cart in the middle of the forest for a year, should it not be considered abandoned? If I leave a 5 speeder unbranded horse, uncared for off deed out of neglijence , should I yell at a player if he takes it? No! It was my mistake I should learn from it . Here's some ideas. When I made my deed on deliverance, there were a LOT of abandoned wagons and carts on my deed perimeter, I couldn't *Drag* the wagons, only push them to a slightly obscure spot, hoping for decay . That was 2 years ago. They still haven't decayed. And they have ql 1 locks. I am pretty sure they are empty, but to be honest, if the player hasn't come back in 2 years, it should be free game by now, at least to BASH them. I hate this decay part in wurm. If we can't lockpick, at least let us destroy some items. And those carts were 50+ 70 ql quality. Decay would take at least 1-2 more years. 1. And no, I'm not saying decay should be faster, but what would be nice if we had an additional perm system related to abandoned vehicles. A system that would flag items as "This <insert item name> seems to have been abandoned by his owner due to inactivity. It has been marked as free game to lockpick. Do you wish to take ownership of this item? " Something like that. 2. Add "destroy item" to management permissions. We can blow up houses if we want if we own them. Why can't we do the same with boats/carts/wagons? Or for that matter, mine doors as well. There's already an "item history" to show who lockpicked what wagon, boat, door. Most pvers aren't familiar with it but pvpers I am certain they are. 3. Personally I'd love a system that would introduce a "break-down" action. Break down items to 25%-50% component parts with a timer based off your carpentry/smithing/masonry skill. Example : Find abandoned wagon. System knows the wagon owner hasn't logged in 1 year at least. System flags wagon as free for all. Go to wagon - right click - break down, timer 3 minutes. Result? : Some planks, some shafts, some nails, a wheel or two, ql should be near the wagon ql. If no breakdown option is available , then can we make the "bash" action as a 1 action event with a longer timer? For example instead of bashing an item 10 times with a 30 sec timer, can we instead have 1 single action with 1 timer = 5 minutes. With the mention that at the end, the item is destroyed. If the action is canceled , it has to be restarted. Just saying it would be nice if we had options to clean up our corners of the map. And let's be honest, finding a priest that can create a lava tile so i can push 10 different carts on IS NOT a nice and viable option, it's a headache, and sometimes costly. Just some options that could maybe add some nice control over wurm items. Blowing up a cart is no more realistic than blowing up a house. But it would be nice if we had the option .

Yeah you have a point about Internet traffic, but the idea that AWS is bad with data security isn’t backed up by any facts at all. Things like publicly accessible s3 buckets & security groups are intentional and ignorant settings configured by customers.
  16. 3 points
Data privacy is problematic on Amazon? Maybe for misconfigured systems... You're stepping into my professional wheelhouse here. I know all about AWS security, data privacy, etc. I'm responsible for ensuring PII is well-kept at work, which far exceeds what Wurm's data is. You can't attribute the debacles with Ring and what they do with Amazon's shopping front with AWS. They may be owned by the same person but they're entirely different organizations with AWS being vetted by regulators.

Because this is the only game I know of where I can just live in a mmo world, do my own thing without being forced into anything. There are a few other games where I could just do my thing but they all lack Wurms house building system. Also the game gets updated often, every time when I come back from a break there's new stuff to do. And the community is great at times, better than in most other mmo's.

I will stay as long as Wurm exists because I enjoy the following: a) The escapism. b) The challenge, variation and opportunity that Wurm affords. c) The extremely helpful community- the help given to players on the CA channel is amazing and freely given. d) The regular updates. These may not always be welcomed by some players but to me show a development team who have the game at heart. They are of course not perfect but to be honest I am loathe to criticise anyone who does their best. e) The permanence- I love how if a player wishes to take a break, as long as their deed is funded, the place will be waiting for them on their return. f) The way that I can alter the land in ways that other players can marvel at or- more likely- snigger at. I could hardly be described as a fighter even though my fighting is well over 70 on my characters and I have never created a priest so my views may be limited and a bit sheltered compared to some players. I look forward to seeing the new update and all the future plans for Wurm unfold as we move through this year. I hope that if possible, people past, present and future can support Wurm, the team and the simply amazing experience that is Wurm Online.

I think that such negative development decisions need to stop, it is not like there wouldn't be any alternatives. In 2020 you can find a good online game in each edge of the internet. Wurm must become the imagination of it's players again and not some result of a bunch of meetings.

I'd like to see 3d identical copies of character presets possible to be printed/sold on demand../, a bit more creative merch... than a boring logo slapped on a mug or tshirt..... lets hope.. wurm one day makes it.... to have bigger crowd around... and printable chars become an option... just imagine somebody's characters' 'ugly face' on a statuette sitting IRL on your desk... in the shape of normal/fighting pose/stance/ or just as archaeology miner/digger/swordsman figures are.... no helm.. and having character's head printed.. relatively.. well detailed... Probably not that hard to scrap a 3d model out of wods or whatever wurm was using... and to 'export' character preset.. on such... to be 3d printed... unsure about the cost.... but I'd bet real fans would be happy to snatch one of these.... if they could grab a copy of their character...

It's not about forbiding repair. It's about streamlining the process of getting rid of eyesores. Why can't I bash an abandoned cart on the perimeter of my deed, a cart locked with a ql 1 lock? It would be nice for each cart/wagon/ship to have a warning that says "If no actions are done by the owner to this item in at least 6 months - 1 year, then it will be considered abandoned". Actions include : Using item, embarking, disembarking, managing permissions for item, repairing (by owner), improving (improving), etc. And again, it would be nice if we have a check box option to just blow them up and delete certain items exactly how we do with houses . GMs can make items dissapear. Giving the same option to players like deleting certain unwanted wagons/ship transporters would be great. I remember on Epic, on Desertion I made a garbage dump where I dumped at least 100+ wagons, carts, ship transporters from "Creation missions". I donated as many as I could but ultiamately I had to make a dump for them. The faster we can get rid of trash , the more beautiful Wurm can be. It's not just aesthetic. It's functional too.

"oh boy i can't wait to build a 90ql 1x1 shack around my cart/wagon/boat every time i log off because that's infinitely more logical than just not having lockpicking in pve" everyones thats not a paste-eater will just secure their stuff inside buildings that take years to decay if you still log in, there won't be any good loot to find, you've made the game more tedious for everyone because they have to do this in fear of some nerd who's spent a year grinding lockpicking because its a garbage skill that only gets a tick every 10 minutes, the only people that you'll reappropriate loot from are newbies and people that are careless, and you've made the argument that it makes the game more logical in a world where these actions are enforced by some mysterious entity that magically knows when you're doing bad things 10/10 suggestion
  25. 2 points
In actuality, things are not working on PVE, making changes to increase interest and enjoyment. Disabling and making skills useless in PVE does not mean 'it's working' it's expressly not working at all. It's downright laughable to have stuff protected to the extent that it is... Boring to travel across a landscape where everything is locked by a player who decided to quit a year or more ago, can't do nothing with it but wait for it to decay. Sorry that's not increasing the FUN in the game. The first thing a new player thinks is... 'That's stupid' - and they are right. Anyhow I said my bit - let's see if anyone is listening.

You don't have to redeem your points for gift packs if you don't want to. There are plenty of other options, with the gift pack being something fun to grab if you don't care or can't choose what to get. Ahh yes, filler. Don't look to improve the game itself, just drown the players in cosmetics and good looking vanity items! No thanks. I'm sure the removal of player gods had a lot of thought behind it, considering how controversial of a change it has turned out to be. Overall it will be healthier for the game going forward, especially if they overhaul the current gods. I will agree with you that priests shouldn't have as many restrictions but they've got to have some kind of penalty otherwise, there's no reason NOT to be a priest.

I really feel you're overthinking this. It's an optional camera angle that accomplishes nothing that wasn't already possible through other means. Trying to see if a forest is clear of mobs? Move your mouse around and look for outlines. Need to know if another mob just approached during a fight? Read the combat log, or turn your character quickly. The camera has appropriate limitations to prevent most abuse, and can likely be straight up disable in PvP if it proves too much of an issue. It provides a nice breath of fresh air in crowded and cramped areas, and allows us to see our characters outside of a tiny window. I understand the first person immersion aspect but you've got to consider that it's an optional QoL addition. No one is forced to use it, but those who want to will finally be able to.

So.....the presentation and execution of proposed changes makes me feel like you try to adapt the (negative) aspects of "modern" free2play gaming industry into your own game to go along with buying a ###### currency to redeem in the token shop for real player advantages and lootboxes and even for the player advantage, namely affinities, you have a one in a 130 chance of hitting the affinity you want and you'll pay for each roll and I'm just stunned. Along with that, even though i always wanted playergods to be removed as it got crowded with deities, I also foresee that a big portion of paying players will not take kindly to that change. Due to the fact they chose the deity they did for the spells that deity has available based on its utility. Given that information you will revert them back into a priest that will have no use for them as you are not touching those deities in any way or make them more viable and enforce players that have a nahjo piest (as one example) to have 2 priests (Fo and Mag) to have able to two of the most used utility spells (Strongwall and genesis) I think your decision regarding this entire devblog to be released in a form that says that this is coming will massively hurt the already dwindling playerbase more and certainly will not aid in your endevour to attract more customers. It just seems and feels like a cheap cashgrap to extract more money. I'd strongly advice to reconsider the rewards offered in the giftshop. Remove lootboxes. Keep in decorative features like nametags and skins. Remove the rng from it because rng is not fun when it's directly tied to a monetary value as that is, was and will be gambling. Doesn't matter hot it is labeled.

I've swapped my Nacho to Mag and kept my current Fo. Whilst it is a shame to loose some of those spells, definitely think this will be good in the long run I hope. Take the pain now on tough decisions that are in the best interest of the game and it's vision now rather than after you've brought in potentially 1000's of new players which are much less likely to stick around. I would say it's the best way to approach this in the lead up, and it wouldn't surprise me that we'll see more things like this in the coming weeks and months. You understand right that you're saying that your chosen player god filled the role of all 3 priests that originally existed then in the same breath blame PvP balancing as the reason for this change. The fact you could get one priest that could "do it all" in PvE was not good for the game and was not balanced. So realistically when you break it down, the reason this changed was made is the same reason you find yourself upset. Hopefully in time you'll see that this change will mean that there will be some amount of renewed enchants market within the game since people can no longer do everything with one account. You hopefully in time will see a renewed emphasis on collaboration within the game and peoples priests. All of which was common place before players gods became such a focus.

I really wouldn't call this a PR/Communication Disaster. It roughly went like this over the years: Some Players: "Player gods are broken, please get rid of them." Other Players: "No, we got used to them; it's unfair that we can't access all content with a main and an alt." Devs: "Ok, we are not removing player gods; they are broken but a lot of players would be angry if we did. We want to keep our player base happy, and surely a little bit of imbalance can't break too much" Some Players: "Wow, the devs never listen to us." <Time passes, most of the player base leave, wurm is essentially planning a relaunch> Devs: "Actually, you guys were right. We're going to remove player gods because our attempts to balance them just have not worked and we REALLY don't want that stuff being shown to the new audience." Other Players: "Wow, the devs never listen to us."
  45. 1 point
Well the gift box isn't the sole thing to get. If you prefer rewards month to month you can have a little fun, but I'd say the other big ticket items would be better long term goals. The concerns about oversaturatuon make sense, they're concerns we had too. But ultimately, if you supported a premium character for a long period of time, even if you no longer use them, you deserve a measure of thanks for doing so. I know this whole change is controversial, but wurm is no stranger to big changes. I know some are rightfully upset and have questions, and rest assured I'll do my best to have answers. Wurmians always band together to support one another when needed, and if people choose to no longer run a priest, I'm positive others will always be ready to lend a hand with theirs.
  46. 1 point
The only thing that made me even have a priest was the things i needed on one priest.. now that i have to keep 3 to get the same result.. i might just get rid of it and just ignore the whole thing. I'm sick and tired of pve suffering on nice and QoL things just because of pvp balance and crap like that.

I wonder when you gonna learn that wurm is for a few special people to play..not for every day kid on steam who wants the hype and move on after a month.
