The Hunters Guide of Proper Unique Creature Hunting Etiquette To maintain proper etiquette when encountering a creature of unique stature, one must always heed to sportsmanlike conduct as written below. When you discover a unique creature, you have two courses of action available to you. The first course of action is to attempt to contain the creature so that it will go un-bothered until such time as you have fattened it up for slaughter. This is by no means the best option as any unique creature can escape any confinement you build at any time of its own choosing. Under no circumstances should a contained unique on or under a deed be 'lured' out by any means outside of the intentions of the hunting party with claim. This will be classed as griefing and will net the offender/s a ban. The second course of action, and most sportsmanlike to boot, is to gather your friends, family, coworkers, and any spare un-dead you may have lying around collecting dust, and have a splendifirous slaying party as soon as possible. Children always have lots of fun playing games like 'fingers and horns', 'tooth tail toe', 'foot toss', 'tug of entrails', ' and of course playing the old classic scene from the famous 'Swamp Wars' play and pretend to be Duke Skyrunner battling Barth Tater with bloody severed arm sabers. The adults meanwhile can butcher the rare and unique creature and create wonderful stews and other fine meals from the leftovers of the creature to eat as they haggle over the dispensation of the more valued body parts of each slain creature. There is of course a third action available to you, though I am loath to mention it, but you could, in theory, turn, run away, and pretend you never saw it. With multiple hunting parties hunting down these poor misunderstood unique creatures, recently, it has become such a war for the blood and other various body parts of each unique creature that many of the people hunting them are no longer having fun at this time honored blood sport. This is where proper etiquette must be applied for all to enjoy their kill and wear it too. So, with that in mind, let's lay down some etiquette for this wonderful tradition. First come first serve! What does it mean to be the first? I am so glad you asked. Normally, first person on scene is the one to claim the unique, but arguments do arise and we need something more solid to go on at this stage. So let us start a more tangible system by which if an argument were to arise, an arbitrator can be sent out to scout the situation, and determine decisively who is first. Step 1. Commit one of these actions within range of the unique. Mine a tunnel Build a colossus Dig a dirt, heap of sand, clay, tar, lava Plant a sign Cut a tree down Build a bridge Surface mine a shard Step 2. Remember where you committed the action! If the arbitrator cannot find proof of work, then your claim will be denied. Keep in mind, the above is only necessary if there is a dispute, which will likely only happen during the first few hours of discovery, but for your own sake, commit one of the above actions should you encounter a unique creature and wish to claim it for your own group to eviscerate. Containment Protocols! If you have chosen to lay claim to a unique, what do you do with it? Kill it of course, you silly dunderhead! Since most of you will not be able to take on a unique creature by your lonesome, you should gather up a slaughter party and throw a big bash for the unique creature as soon as possible. Unfortunately, it can take time to gather a large enough group of blood ravers to attend so you may decide to confine the unique creature in a 'pen'. This of course is not really intended, and unique creatures can escape on their own volition, so if you try to confine one of these poor Wurmland denizens, do not come calling to us when it escapes to get to the greener grass on the other side. Should the unique decide to escape your attempts at confining it, it is again wild and can potentially be claimed by another, as long as they follow the above steps, if your party is not actively present to maintain your original claim. Under no circumstances should a contained unique on or under a deed be 'lured' out by any means outside of the intentions of the hunting party with claim. This will be classed as griefing and will net the offender/s a ban. Attempting to merely 'pen' a unique creature without a deed such as, using a sealed mine or a fence may work as a temporary option, but once you leave the area, any claim to it becomes invalid! The slaying! This is by far the most fun part of the event. Unfortunately, some have tried to sully the experience and so we provide you with some basic common courtesies that all should respect. Courtesy #1 – If you are not with the slayer party that has claim to the unique creature, then leave the area! Courtesy #2 – Do not bring alts into the loot drop range. Courtesy #3 – Do not steal the corpse, body parts, or loot drops from the claimant party. Courtesy #4 – Under no circumstances should a contained unique on or under a deed be 'lured' out by any means outside of the intentions of the hunting party with claim. This will be classed as griefing and will net the offender/s a ban. Going against these courtesies of etiquette will be considered an act of griefing and will net the offender/s a ban. Community slayings! There are times in which hunting parties will organize a public slaying of a unique creature to share the spoils. These are come one, come all events. No one will be turned away from these, but a certain decorum of etiquette must be observed. Courtesy #1 – Do not steal the corpse, body parts, or loot drops from the organizers of the community slaying party. Courtesy #2 – Under no circumstances should a contained unique on or under a deed be 'lured' out by any means outside of the intentions of the organizing party with claim. This will be classed as griefing and will net the offender/s a ban. This guide will be updated and adjusted to counter loopholes as more scenarios are considered in order to keep these activities in line with the spirit of the game.

I wanted to just say thank you to Retro for putting the proper youtube and merch shop pics/links in twitch.... I didn't want to do a show off or getting angry or whatever, just trying to be nice and polite as possible as I could. I may sound like an arrogant bit.. but here's my opinion (again). 1. Wipeout is correct, it's a known bug with wordpress which I found as the very first search result for my console errors. 2. If I would run a company, especially support department here, and you, Finn, would tell any of my customers to go stfu and fiddle with my adblock you would get fired in that very second because...see further below ( pictures included)... 😜 3. Probably half the people answering here, including Retrograde himself, has obviously not read thoroughly enough what I posted, as I already stated that I do know where things are! I already knew where the merch shop was before I even started posting this thread. ^^ Being not only programmer, modder and even kind of a gamedev myself as a hobby since a good bunch of years now I wouldn't even care probably. I am not interested to earn money for wurm because it is not my stuff. And obviously the devs, whoever is the responsible part here, aren't able and don't care for their customers and they should do as Finn already suggested and just get rid of the broken thing they call a website alltogether. I gave Retro a hint to put YT and merch on website and even twitch channel, I gave him a link to read (don't know if he has done but I don't think so) where he could start with getting problems solved, and I am even giving a link in a moment.... compare: first picture is my (hobby) website for the developing things I made years ago and will serve as that in the future as well, running not only properly with the given w3c tools for checking but also doesn't block anything because simple put, it's a proper website and not a buggy hell of broken things like the wo website is, second and third picture You know what, this thread told me that wo devs don't care for their stuff... Retro tried a bit but then either give up or got angry with me or whatever. Those are simple things to fix when you got a company and want to care not only for your game and website but also for your customers.... again, here is a short read for Retro who hopefully starts to care more now: https://www.wpglobalsupport.com/validate-a-wordpress-website/ And you know what? Retro already said it's not for the money, so I guess it's fine if not only the game code but also the website just sits there as is and nothing gets fixed at all, because you know, wurm doesn't need money so who cares if there is a damn button linked to YT or merch even, nobody, right? ^^ Edit: And I didn't even started to check for accessibility for wo site, propably the same mess there. Well, I am done here, you can now derail this thread again with silly simpsons pics or whatever comes to your mind... obviously it's only some of us customers here that care about it. Not me any longer though as... if you can see in my websites check, I have to go and fix things for my own stuff, because I DO CARE for my things and also for my (casual or not, adblock or not) customers, even if I don't earn money with it because my stuff is free for all. Have a nice day all, and keep on wurming Jade

paid for posting is just meh imho, people should post it because they like the server not because they are being paid to post or at least put up a big sign saying these opinions are paid for by XX, like saying people are actors in tv advertising and not real people saying what they actually think lol "I am a doctor and my patients all love my nice comfy chairs" *small print* this is an actor and not a real doctor.

I agree with Milkdrop. It is simple. If you want equal chances to recruit people from every of the world then you have to consider peoples with adblocker plugins. We in germany have a saying: "über den Tellerrand schauen" / looking over the plate edge. Finnn, so globalization has also to do with looking over the your breakfast plate edge and realise that not all people can search like you, dont have adblocker plugins and only use the right validation software. Milkdrop +1 Jadegeier +1 And where the hell are my write capabilities...

No winter mod updated to v0.2 Added setting to lock the season on the client "lockSeason" By changing setting this setting it will instead always stay in one season, according to value 0 = winter / 1 = spring / 2 = summer / 3 = fall By default it's set to -1 which means the mod will work as it did before (go through seasons normally, skip winter). I love this server. Very fun way to play wurm! Not too hard, and not too easy. I love there is such a thing! The owner is very active and strive to be friendly, we have access to the construction of every item which makes it fun, I love the rift creatures run rampant and cause havoc. Terraforming is a awesome, and everything is just tons of fun. I love how the server is loaded with mods. It makes wurm fun! Earn 5s a day for voting, it's a great way to pay for the upkeep. It's great to see that the server is GROWING! More and more players are coming in each day and we are actually starting to create a wonderful community. Very fun server, 10/10 on the scale of best servers I do recommend. I don't care if I get paid to comment I do not expecting it, just the server seems to be that awesome!! We have random events and just work together it's great!

There are two starter maps, Heavenord (Adventure-PvP) and Ocrea (Creative-PvE). I do not believe either official map has ever been changed. Heavenord is the one you mean, with roads & towns already there. I can't off hand recall any downloadable playermade maps with prebuilt structures, but I could be wrong. If this a singleplayer game and you just want a 'community resource center" at the spawn, you can make a character just to be a GM and make those, it is pretty easy even with zero experience. You can make a few starter roads leadingout of town, or even get crazy and build an entire custom world in GM mode. But it might be harder to find a downloadable map with prebuilt roads and buildings and towns to explore and find treasures and dangers and stuff. There are however mods that will place random treasure chests scattered across a custom map. There are public multiplayer servers with prebuilt roads, custom buildings, custom quests etc, but you probably have to play on their server and by their rules, I cannot recall any that allow you to download their map with roads towns structures etc for private play. Here is an example of an adventure-style multiplayer server At one time, Keenan was discussing adding a few more default maps to WU, but I am pretty sure that project is long abandoned now.

Sure, it may be "their" problem, but it may as well cause us a player or more less depending how things pan out. If you require people to be less naive (to not install any adblock or w/e plugin that the monthly article on a random tech blog of anyones choice may suggests) and be tech savy to handle their PC to be able to view your website properly, then I don't see things going very far either. You say SEO is one of the most important points, sure- I agree, so now you are #1 for Wurmonline on Google and now what? The less tech savy user comes to the website, sees nothing really quick to grab their attention... it's a hassle to even find a video by the Website (because the non tech savy user installed some adblocker because thats what everyone does these days) and now whos problem is it, the person who just goes on with their life without even trying Wurm or ours cause we lost a potential new player which we bleed for as is... Maybe if you are lucky one bothers enough to actually take to the forums or discord to point this out, but personally I would not bother, if to be as a "non tech savy user" if I was to be one something was not visible, I would not even remotely suspect anything to be there in the first place. I expect an adblocker to remove Ads, not simple links. You could now go further and make the argument "if they didn't go that far, they are probably not fit to play Wurm anyhow!" and that may be true... but how many hurdles do you want people to overcome to play a game. Just saying, by saying the problem is on "their" side you don't solve anything, it's just the easy way out. I understood Retros words more as honoring peoples decision to not to want to see such content, whatever the reason may be and thats fine. But if you take the discussion to the other side of the spectrum, then I just see it as an lazy excuse.

I just want to point out that noone in web development uses tools like the W3C validation tools. Maybe the big fat "This tool is an ongoing experiment in better HTML checking, and its behavior remains subject to change" on the top of the page is part of the reason. The three most important parts are performance, SEO and security. Granted, wurmonline.com doesn't score that good on https://gtmetrix.com/reports/wurmonline.com/hC0sl6Qm, but that is another story. I think Retro has done a good job so far on updating the website and other social media content, so maybe applaud him for that instead of bringing up reports from crappy tools. I kind of agree with Retro on the adblocker part as well, if people want to install browser plugins that they don't have control over or know what the hell is doing, that is their problem, and they will have far bigger issues than not seeing a youtube link on a website. Trying to workaround a plugin defeats the whole purpose of people using that annoyance list on purpose.

The thing is, does CC want their Website to appear properly as designed to every possible visitor or do they prefer to honor if someone is blocking a.... form of advertising? I am not sure if I would call a link to Youtube or whatever advertising, the whole site is an advertisement for the game so... Then again (at least here in germany) we have people who glue shields above their houses mailboxes that any kind of advertisement is unwanted in their box, which is kinda like an adblocker.... though most delivery kids don't care. There is a point to value someones decision to run a adblocker and to honor it, then again more than half the internet has non-tech-savy users that just install one but most likely do not realize what it actually blocks - specially if the default already filters content and then are surprised why websites don't have a youtube or whatever link. (I use uBlock Origin and have zero issues and I am lazy and did not fiddle much with it's config.) I am not sure if the adblocker people use in their tests would also block a written link instead of a image? Otherwise you could just create a nice footer at the very bottom, most company sites have that, kind of a quick link thing for the things people look for the most. But if CC has the position of "people block Youtube for a reason and we honor it" then yea, end of the discussion right there pretty much no matter why otherwise important links for the game are invisible or how easy it would be to fix. It all boils down to how much free "advertisement" and exposure CC wants Wurm to have. (It's not like a link to Youtube is like you forcing down content the users throat, in the end they would have still to click it... I can't believe someone would be offended by seeing a Youtube link and be like "o m g they use Youtube I so gona not play this".) Personally when I check out a potentially new game watching a good video about it is a lot easier than having to create an account and so on just to be able to login and then again we know how long it takes until you see anything advanced or what is possible in Wurm further down the road... I would think videos are an essential marketing element for a game like Wurm. 😕 But as said, it is the decision of the people who run the game. All we can do is offer input on how to improve what is there, but if it is actually taken and being worked on is CCs decision. Thanks for doing what is within the boundaries of possibility for you @Retrograde.

That should be addressed with it's own separated suggestion... each creature on a cart/wagon should have individual 'unhitch' option.. IRL you do not release all wagon pullers in the wild/open area... just to run around after them and rope them...(which is considered "NORMAL" in wurm) Also for the cages.. roping 2 or 4 creatures... you should just get an option when you right click.. -> load.. Creature1, Creature2, Creature3, or Creature4.. either with a popup or as options in the menu There you go.. who suggestions to open if you feel like it. And no need for a new item to create, carry around or dump constantly.. all over the place

I like this idea, for WO, but I would only want someone to be able to get out of the wand what a priest has put in. Perhaps it can have one charge added per 10 ql of gem. So a wand of strongwall could be sold after being made with a 50ql gem, but it would need strongwall cast into it 5 times to achieve those charges. This would make priests able to sell their services a little more easily for the deed maintenance spells that are hugely useful, but they often would need to travel for making selling these services less convenient, such as strongwall, genesis, and even humid drizzle. Also, since this would use some materials and clear some of the backstock of materials on hand I can see this being a benefit overall. Give the wands a high decay rate if not in inventory, and perhaps make it require several other materials instead of simply the horn and a gem depending on the spell to be stored. Since priests can continue actions, this shouldn't be an issue. Furthermore, attachment of the gem (or even overall construction of the wand) would be good to base on the soul depth or soul strength in the same way that rune attachment are.

Earn 5s a day for voting, deed tiles cost nothing, just upkeep (but you get 5s for free every day) and the best part? the server is GROWING! Nope, it's not cache or anything, nothing get's better if I would refresh. @RetrogradeRetro is right here assuming it has to do with blocking content. I am using Adblock Plus, this website is using Wordpress... that's at least the first thing I found out after doing a quick console check and googling for the errors there. As a first read I can leave this link here for you, Retro: https://love2dev.com/blog/what-the-heck-does-neterr_blocked_by_client-mean-and-how-can-you-fix-it/ For now I have set the website as whitelisted. But many others may have some adblock activated and might not care about doing this. Edit: Let me know if you need further description of errors and/or me checking things again with Adblock activated. And @Finnn 1. I do google stuff like "youtube something" and maybe others do as well. You can go to youtube and search there as a professional, that's fine. 2. I didn't search for Retrograde youtube, I searched for the "brand WO" ^^ 3. Well, you might think a website is useless for a company that has a game and needs not only new people but also earn money for still having said company and game in the future. Maybe they should put a script in, checking for names and if Finnn enters website make it pure white with a link to the premium shop and maybe stick a silly simpsons photo on it. Sounds good. ^^ 4. Oh and I don't consider Twitch a "new" thing... but that's just me. 5. And just an overall opinion by me: It takes like 10 minutes to make a proper picture and put it on the website and make it a link to somewhere (ok, for Retro maybe 10 minutes longer) but... if a dev that earns money with a game can't efford those 10 minutes each day to make stuff better than he shouldn't even get my money at all... but as said, that's just my opinion as a customer and/or I may as well go somewhere else and throw my money at devs that do care. Tell me, is it bad to care for something you'd love to stick with in the years that come? Should I just stop caring like many other players here do and move on? I don't think so, I care even so much that I checked my console and tried finding out why it gets blocked etc etc.... I won't stop caring.

Nope. I'm playing this game to have fun, to interact with people and to get things done. Starting from scratch after working 4 years to get most of my skills high enough to do the things I like is one thing. Doing it at a couple of alts so I got the priests needed for the plans I have is a second. Starting over from scratch for just a few months isn't my idea of fun. I may as well start an Alt in Freedom and sell the bugger the moment the most important skills are high enough to make it useful. And frankly speaking, I'm not in the mood for that. Nor do I have the time for it. Thorin

There'll be an official clarification/announcement soon. I'm not sure where the idea of shutting WU down and removing it from Steam came from, there's no chance of that happening. We're currently working on something to not leave WU as is. While it won't be getting any of the new WO updates, we're looking at making using mods easier overall, as well as a bugfixing update.

300 hours and complaining about a game, bet he didn't even finish a house. The arguments about the grind and other aspects are not helpful to the discussion, and detract from the thread as a whole. Wurm is about the journey, to some that's a grind, to others its a path to take that proves itself rewarding in the achievements. We are not seeking to be another cookie cutter faux sandbox mmorpg. We are aiming to be wurm, and while we may change things, we are not sacrificing what makes wurm wurm, and that's the journey.
  41. 1 point
I strongly beg to differ. I've seen and been part of the following scenario: An alliance of new players coalesces (previously friends, coincidence, mix of both, your pick). They all start leveling skills, but seeing the amount of grind involved, they each pick their main role. One's working heavily on smithing, one's doing carpentry, one's farming up a storm, one's putting tons of effort into an AH setup. Even better, they got a Fo priest who'll eventually have Genesis to help speed up the stablemaster's breeding program. The smith may or may not be doing his own mining, the carpenter will need to cut wood or find a woodcutter. They eventually start reaching goals. The carpenter and the smith are pumping out Q40!!! tools! One of them travelled all the way across the server (Gasp! Servers feel yuge when you still get easily lost) and met a decent weaponsmith who promises to improve their sharp sticks into something that can kill. The cooks will soon have meat! Then they meet this new newbie, Bob, and give the guy an invite as Bob lives nearby and happens to be pretty cool. Bob, being cool and all, is also a bit impatient AND would like to help his buddies. Bob has lots of disposable income and starts buying accounts. Within a week he can crank out q90 tools, weapons, armors, crops, wood, ores, 5spd horses, ships, vehicles, and all sorts of furniture. Bob's alliance now has all the bling they could ever need. They offered to pay Bob but he would have none of it. Now the smith is just some dude with a forge, the carpenter is just some dude with a mallet, the AH guy just needs to grind a bit more and redo his pens. The Fo priest will have to wait for the next rift to have something to cast on (injured people). Alliance members start to recede into their own deeds to just work on their stuff as they no longer need to be covering skill gaps in the alliance to help each other out. The alliance has become a chatroom. Bob's a great guy, they're all still friends, but the concept of a "community project" has flown out the window, and the "village" is now just an area full of telepathically-linked hermits. By the way, the smith had figured he could make some coin after he hit q50 by selling cheap tools to other nearby newbies as there were no nearby veterans. The whole market is gone as Bob, having spent all that money on veteran accounts, feels that it would be a waste to not share their skills with every newbie that passes. The smith is now mostly playing Eve. (FYI I was the carpenter and the smith. After we got our Bob I became quite the hunter and wanderer, basically a mobile hermit. And while my account eventually did get to stand up to Bob's collection, 99% of the time it worked in my own benefit. The other 1% was when I stumbled on some lowbie's deed and caught them struggling with something I could assist with).

Macros have always been loss of account. That's stated in the game rules too: Punishment: First offense - Permanent avatar ban. Second offense - Loss of all avatars/accounts and permanent ip ban. - Penalties for macro abuse may be applied at any time pending GM review, even if you have discontinued abusing a macro at time of penalty. So yes, loss of the account is the warning.
  43. 1 point
Strange. Let us summarize: After having banned for other transgressions earlier you still found you were to judge about which rules to be respected and which not? In real life jurisdiction this would lead to increase in penalty in the case of a repeat offence. Moreover, ease of scripting is a funny excuse: murder or sexual assaults are ways easier than, say credit card fraud, should they be punished with lesser sentences? And well, skilling can be felt a challenge or a boredom, agreed, I for my part like mining and don't shy from clearing veins. Wurm is sandbox, if you don't like something, just do something else. And I am not condemning you, rather your complaints when facing the consequences.
