I built a sheriff's building for my good friend Aldur on my deed, even with a workshop for his Wurm Assistant, and the Sheriff has been in his office all day, waiting for citizens to file a complaint. (as in: literally all day. He's been standing afk behind his desk for hours)

View from Crystal Lake Oak Harbour is located at M21 on the in-game map, right on the eastern shore of Crystal Lake. It's a nice, quiet area with rarely seen neighbors, and loads of open space nearby, for those who prefer a bit of elbow room. We've been located at this spot for 13+ years now, so there is a lot of history and a strong bond to the area - meaning we're not going to 'up sticks' and leave you homeless. The deed has a very large mine, packed with iron of all qualities, and cursed with loads of gold and sandstone. We've also got zinc, tin, copper, silver, and marble. Clay and tar are right on the shore below the bridge. Our adjoining deed, Oak Harbour Farms supplies nearly 1000 tiles of farmland for any aspiring farmers or ranchers. (Oak Harbour Farms has been let go to lower upkeep costs, but the space is still open for farming.) A large, stocked workshop is open to all villagers, with some basic tools and materials provided. You'd have free reign over a section of land to terraform and build whatever your heart desires. The amount of land is negotiable, depending on how many villagers we have, how active you are, etc., but roughly 10x10 as a general rule. Or, you can just chill in one of the secure apartments inside the castle and make use of the community buildings. There's also plenty of building space within the mine if you'd like to live as a dwarf! If you are offended by the colour pink, I am terribly sorry... Hunters flourish in the area, as we're surrounded by woodland, and next to the Eastern Plains steppe, which is a great locale for your first forays into fighting. Please be aware Oak Harbour does not have templars, and the deed isn't fully enclosed, so be prepared to defend yourself against (or hide from) aggros in the area! There are guard towers that cover the area if you get into a pickle, though. For the most part, our alliance is made up of folks who play somewhat "hermit" style. We're all happy to help as and when we can, but mostly do our own thing. If you're looking for a village with lots of village-participation activities to get involved in, we are probably not the right fit. However, if you're just after a spot to hang out, craft, build, and maybe jump into a chat about how amazing cheese and bacon are, we've got you covered. We do not ask for "rent" or "tax" toward the upkeep of the deed or anything else. While donations to upkeep are certainly welcome, there is zero pressure to spend your hard-earned silver on it. If you might be interested, leave a reply here, send me a forum PM, or catch me in game, and I will do my best to answer any questions you might have. No bigots. No beggars. No bullies. After commenting on a recent topic concerning what needs to be fixed in the game, (one of those points being the new player experience), I thought it would be a good idea to write down my own experience as a new player, and comment on some observations that I have made (from a relatively un-biased viewpoint), to shine a light on what it is like for a new player, so that whoever can do whatever they want with that information. A lot of the info here will be useless, although it may be a good read, but I'd like to point out that I don't intend this to be a blog of sorts, I just put down everything that might be interesting. And If you just want to hear what I think, skip to the end. You entered through the portal to Wurm on day of the Wurm, week 4 of the starfall of the Digging, 1084. That's 177 days, 1 hour and 46 minutes ago. I started my journey in the tutorial courtyard of Haven's Landing, Independence, and familiarised myself with the Game. Then I set off looking for some land to start a settlement. I found some fellow noobs(I think?) around the area, who's names I wish I could remember, but can't. I completed the first few journal tasks and based my purpose on that. I eventually started making a small shed north of the Landing, but I got curious, and explored a bit further north and fell off a cliff. And died. I can't remember for sure, but I think that after that I died a few times trying to get my body, then took it as an opportunity to teleport to The Howl. Not really understanding just how old the game was, I made the trek across the north inland coast to the east of The Howl to find a place to set up; I saw some un-claimed land in the far distance. But alas, that's just how the renderer works. The entire coast was built on and flattened. It was really cool to see all this history, but I couldn't build on it, because it might be important, or owned by someone! So I headed inland to look for a place to build. I can't remember what happened after that, but I think I died at one point and went back to Haven's Landing. Then I found it: The Fantastic Huge Glimmersteel Portal. I thought, huh, this is neat, so I decided to be really stupid and take it to the middle of Xanadu. I don't recall there being a warning that the portal was one-way, so I was more than a bit annoyed when I arrived in Greymead with no way back to anywhere, "but oh well," said I, and not learning from my past experience, started my adventure to the east sea from there to find some land to settle on. I did find some, on a mountain plateau nestled in the trees. Someone had been there before and cleared out the area and left a forge, but They were long gone. I started building a house and a farm. I even tried getting some friends into Wurm, but they didn't seem interested (too busy playing Fortnut). Then a troll showed up, and I took my tent before it killed me for the last time and respawned at Whitefay. I'd seen H19 on some maps and it looks like an alright place to set up. But there were tons of monsters and not enough guard towers to protect a weak noob like me on the journey It was at this moment I realised that Xanadu is Huge. Like, Massive. I nearly got there, too, but there were scorpions... Anyway, I think I ended up and Glasshollow after that and started building a boat with my low skills, but then I went back to Whitefay for some reason. I sort of got bored of Freedom, not enough spice and no way to get off Xanadu, so a few weeks after the reset, I hopped over to Elevation in Jenn-Kellon. You know, as you do. I thought that PvP would be the thing for me, and it is, but I didn't really know what to do, Mainly because of the lack of stuff in general compared to Freedom in the new map. At first I thought that that was just because Elevation was new and It would fill back up eventually, and the glory days would be restored, or something like that. I didn't realise that there was just nobody there. I always wanted to be the mayor of my own settlement, so I started building a house (again), and It was really nice having a blank canvas, before I was nearly killed at the hands of a horrible Blacklighter, who only spared me out of mercy for my feeble situation. Some of the guys from the nearby stronghold suggested I come and train there, so I did. They were really nice and helpful, and things were starting to look good, but then my computer broke. When I finally got back to Wurm a while later, the deed was all but deserted, and the Kingdom seemed that way too. I went back to Freedom and got myself killed to find a place on the shore to get out of Xanadu from. It was there that someone messaged me from the global chat over something I had said about PvP on Chaos. I said yeah sure, sounds fun, and so they took me to Celebration where we trained(a tiny bit myself), then left for Chaos. We originally got ourselves into HOTS with one of his accounts, but after weeks of trying to find a way to get rid of the current ruler of the kingdom, who apparently doesn't even play the game anymore and not being able to a) do anything too close to capital deed and b) get any new players in to help out we were approached by some players in Pandemonium who were offering to take us in. After thinking about it, My friend and I chose to go over to Pandemonium and continue our adventures to this day. So, what do I think of Wurm Online? I think it is an incredible game, with so many amazing features and things to do, and I see it as a tragedy that there are so few people playing it and that it has so much untapped potential. My experience as a new player was great, but It still could have been a lot better. I suppose communicating some important things like the need to train skills and work with others are some things that would have been really good to know in the beginning, because this game is so much more than the game. And I know that this gets thrown around a lot, but the game really needs some basic advertising. I found it on a 2011 post on Notch's Tumblr! Meeting more people in the world as I was exploring it who were in my situation would have made the game feel so much less... empty? I have also made some observations, that I won't spend too much time on because they are touchy subjects, but I think the team really needs to listen to the players a lot more, and maybe credit ideas that have been suggested by players and implemented by the team to highlight that yes, we are listening. Anyway, I hope this has let people see this awesome game from a Newbie's perspective. Make of this what you will, I just thought it seemed like a good thing to post. Cheers!

I won't be going through and working out how to avoid adblock filters, because people who use them don't appreciate them being bypassed, defeats the purpose. I added the youtube and merch images on the twitch channel and fixed up a little bit, hopefully its easier. There's also now the Wurm official and unofficial sites post pinned in the town square. I certainly hope this has cleared up the issues you have, now buy a pillow!

Nope, it's not cache or anything, nothing get's better if I would refresh. @RetrogradeRetro is right here assuming it has to do with blocking content. I am using Adblock Plus, this website is using Wordpress... that's at least the first thing I found out after doing a quick console check and googling for the errors there. As a first read I can leave this link here for you, Retro: https://love2dev.com/blog/what-the-heck-does-neterr_blocked_by_client-mean-and-how-can-you-fix-it/ For now I have set the website as whitelisted. But many others may have some adblock activated and might not care about doing this. Edit: Let me know if you need further description of errors and/or me checking things again with Adblock activated. And @Finnn 1. I do google stuff like "youtube something" and maybe others do as well. You can go to youtube and search there as a professional, that's fine. 2. I didn't search for Retrograde youtube, I searched for the "brand WO" ^^ 3. Well, you might think a website is useless for a company that has a game and needs not only new people but also earn money for still having said company and game in the future. Maybe they should put a script in, checking for names and if Finnn enters website make it pure white with a link to the premium shop and maybe stick a silly simpsons photo on it. Sounds good. ^^ 4. Oh and I don't consider Twitch a "new" thing... but that's just me. 5. And just an overall opinion by me: It takes like 10 minutes to make a proper picture and put it on the website and make it a link to somewhere (ok, for Retro maybe 10 minutes longer) but... if a dev that earns money with a game can't efford those 10 minutes each day to make stuff better than he shouldn't even get my money at all... but as said, that's just my opinion as a customer and/or I may as well go somewhere else and throw my money at devs that do care. Tell me, is it bad to care for something you'd love to stick with in the years that come? Should I just stop caring like many other players here do and move on? I don't think so, I care even so much that I checked my console and tried finding out why it gets blocked etc etc.... I won't stop caring.

if a games financial future rests on needing to pay to ride a horse there's some big boy issues there theres so much of the game blocked by money, time, frustration, etc that core basics like riding a horse and loading should be more attainable and available to all

Chests fit somewhere in.. bsb / large storage unit could possibly be a thing... Alternatively... these will have to be a new item for storing chests and COFFERS(as it's basically the same item.. but better looking..) This makes sense to happen as currently to have bunch of chests.. you need a large cart or a wagon inside your house... or to dump a bunch of chests around in a corner... neither is optimal.. to say the least.... while a new container for such could make sorting a storage for many tiny items easier... unless that is a bad thing...(already been around for years.. as cart/wagons with rafts anyway) I'd personally rather see it as a storage for the chests.. rather than using the chests on the new item to 'lose the chest' in the process.. like with large-storage-unit you 'lose' rafts to create the object.. I'd rather have it as the amphora/wine/small barrel rack kind of storage with option to lock the rack and chests individually, unless complexity blows something wurm-y server side.. --in short-- +1

I'd simply like to suggest a simplified, more realistic way of making mortar. Mortar as it is made now is just about as hard to make as chiseling out a brick. It is a HUGE time sink for an unrealistic mechanic, especially for those who like to build. I know, there is a lot in Wurm that is not realistic. Since when did we worry about all things being realistic? I get it. It would be a huge qol improvement though, for those who like to build. Sure, mortar would be less valuable on the market because it would be easier to produce, but I'm not concerned with propping up the market at the expense of player discomfort and frustration for those unwilling to spend so much time making something that should be more simple. Here is the suggested change: I should be able to dig and add clay to a barrel or similar container and then activate a pile of sand and mix with the clay to make a barrel (or other container) of mortar. I then place mortar in a small barrel or other container in my inventory, and as I build, the needed amount of mortar is removed from the container. Very simple, and would be a huge improvement in the enjoyment level of the building process. Humbly submitted, ~TH~ (Removed the suggestion to possibly make Natural Substances the skill used to determine mortar quality. Point was made in private conversation that players have worked masonry skill high in order to make high ql mortar. Changing the required skill would be unfair at this point.)

Statements such as these can cause issues because it's not always about the ability to make money, but a reflection of what that means. Essentially the market exists based off things being rare to make, needing skill, or consuming time. Making mortar this fast would eliminate the consuming time factor and thus make production of mortar essentially a zero sum situation. We're pretty happy with where bulk materials are in terms of generation, in both creation and use so we won't be taking any action on this suggestion. Not due to just marketplace factors but in time consumption and work/reward factor as well.

How many material types can you recognize?

Pretty spot on, though in the case of storage alts I don't think it's a meta-game angle that isn't logical. This behavior generally happens because decay on deeds isn't fun. For example people don't want tools they have to have decayed by the time they need them, and some tools you really only need once every few months for something obscure. The only alternatives for decay free storage for some items are magic chests, alts are far cheaper and can store way more items. There's also the bank at the token, but that only fits 5 slots so it's nowhere near enough either. So the problem here is more demand for decay free on deed storage that the devs haven't acted upon. Over the years some of it has been met with Bulk Storage Bins and the like, for raw materials, but tools have never really been addressed besides by the inadequate magic chests, which are too small for some items and honestly way too expensive for what they do (and I still own two large ones). Plenty of MMOs solve this by selling more bank slots! Like, add a one time usage item to the Trader for silver, for example 1s, which gives that character 2 extra bank slots. Then put the max bank slots that an account can have at 100, or even higher if there are no technical limitations, and watch people spend their silver.

I had a look, yes sure they are on there but you have to scroll down on the mainpage to find it, it's not exactly intuitive. From the Menu band offered at the top I would look for any Video or Media related links in such categories, but "Media" only has pretty screenshots, no further mention of YouTube or other things. "Game Info" could be a possible point for them as well, but when you check it, it's obvious that it's meant for ingame ressources, maybe get it in line with the Link Thread you started so it's a bit coherent or just add a link to the menu that sends people to the forum page which is maybe easier for you to maintain? But as for the location of the "Social" stuff which is also a lot of media, usually you have a own area for it if it is a lot you have to share or the links are at the very bottom of the page in a footer that basically every Site of your web presence has then or in a "Media" section. Further Scrolling down leads again to a bunch of screenshots, so you have some there and then a whole "Media" point that has only Screenshots.... seems a bit odd to have it at two locations. I would recommend revamping the "Media" section by adding everything "Media" related like YT, Twitch, etc. and cutting off the Main Page after the Features with " …and much, much more! " - the excerpt of the latest News topics seems ok there too, considering the "News" section from the top menu band leads to a more details News archive. Unless this is all some odd stunt for SEO.

Getting called out here! I've modtly been focusing on the links all on social media! I'll rectify that today for sure. Twitch doesn't hold vods for long and since I use YouTube I don't worry about forcing them to stay (done by marking the whole vod as a highlight) Thanks for taking the time to bring it up, It will all be up to date today!

uh. Yeah I would easily haul goods from one island to another for some ching. Would even get a bigger ship. I like to sail and explore. I don't enjoy spamming 1k of items. I load and unload animals so often it isn't even a chore. Grabbed two bison last week from Xanadu headed to a new settlement on indy for some imp work. Traded a barrel of stew for some iron. I enjoy that ######. Would enjoy hauling goods, relocating people, or capturing critters. Now that I finally realized passengers don't get stam drain - I can skill too. - I would even hunt uniques for a finders fee. PvP aside, no one is “beating” me at this game. There is nothing I “need” in this game but plenty I want. I pay for others time - thats not a loss to me. I concede your point if you are playing a purely economic sandbox - too many ways around to implement truly competitive markets. Devs hands are full throwing in new items that also stimulate the player base and the markets that don't also break the sandbox.
