After commenting on a recent topic concerning what needs to be fixed in the game, (one of those points being the new player experience), I thought it would be a good idea to write down my own experience as a new player, and comment on some observations that I have made (from a relatively un-biased viewpoint), to shine a light on what it is like for a new player, so that whoever can do whatever they want with that information. A lot of the info here will be useless, although it may be a good read, but I'd like to point out that I don't intend this to be a blog of sorts, I just put down everything that might be interesting. And If you just want to hear what I think, skip to the end. You entered through the portal to Wurm on day of the Wurm, week 4 of the starfall of the Digging, 1084. That's 177 days, 1 hour and 46 minutes ago. I started my journey in the tutorial courtyard of Haven's Landing, Independence, and familiarised myself with the Game. Then I set off looking for some land to start a settlement. I found some fellow noobs(I think?) around the area, who's names I wish I could remember, but can't. I completed the first few journal tasks and based my purpose on that. I eventually started making a small shed north of the Landing, but I got curious, and explored a bit further north and fell off a cliff. And died. I can't remember for sure, but I think that after that I died a few times trying to get my body, then took it as an opportunity to teleport to The Howl. Not really understanding just how old the game was, I made the trek across the north inland coast to the east of The Howl to find a place to set up; I saw some un-claimed land in the far distance. But alas, that's just how the renderer works. The entire coast was built on and flattened. It was really cool to see all this history, but I couldn't build on it, because it might be important, or owned by someone! So I headed inland to look for a place to build. I can't remember what happened after that, but I think I died at one point and went back to Haven's Landing. Then I found it: The Fantastic Huge Glimmersteel Portal. I thought, huh, this is neat, so I decided to be really stupid and take it to the middle of Xanadu. I don't recall there being a warning that the portal was one-way, so I was more than a bit annoyed when I arrived in Greymead with no way back to anywhere, "but oh well," said I, and not learning from my past experience, started my adventure to the east sea from there to find some land to settle on. I did find some, on a mountain plateau nestled in the trees. Someone had been there before and cleared out the area and left a forge, but They were long gone. I started building a house and a farm. I even tried getting some friends into Wurm, but they didn't seem interested (too busy playing Fortnut). Then a troll showed up, and I took my tent before it killed me for the last time and respawned at Whitefay. I'd seen H19 on some maps and it looks like an alright place to set up. But there were tons of monsters and not enough guard towers to protect a weak noob like me on the journey It was at this moment I realised that Xanadu is Huge. Like, Massive. I nearly got there, too, but there were scorpions... Anyway, I think I ended up and Glasshollow after that and started building a boat with my low skills, but then I went back to Whitefay for some reason. I sort of got bored of Freedom, not enough spice and no way to get off Xanadu, so a few weeks after the reset, I hopped over to Elevation in Jenn-Kellon. You know, as you do. I thought that PvP would be the thing for me, and it is, but I didn't really know what to do, Mainly because of the lack of stuff in general compared to Freedom in the new map. At first I thought that that was just because Elevation was new and It would fill back up eventually, and the glory days would be restored, or something like that. I didn't realise that there was just nobody there. I always wanted to be the mayor of my own settlement, so I started building a house (again), and It was really nice having a blank canvas, before I was nearly killed at the hands of a horrible Blacklighter, who only spared me out of mercy for my feeble situation. Some of the guys from the nearby stronghold suggested I come and train there, so I did. They were really nice and helpful, and things were starting to look good, but then my computer broke. When I finally got back to Wurm a while later, the deed was all but deserted, and the Kingdom seemed that way too. I went back to Freedom and got myself killed to find a place on the shore to get out of Xanadu from. It was there that someone messaged me from the global chat over something I had said about PvP on Chaos. I said yeah sure, sounds fun, and so they took me to Celebration where we trained(a tiny bit myself), then left for Chaos. We originally got ourselves into HOTS with one of his accounts, but after weeks of trying to find a way to get rid of the current ruler of the kingdom, who apparently doesn't even play the game anymore and not being able to a) do anything too close to capital deed and b) get any new players in to help out we were approached by some players in Pandemonium who were offering to take us in. After thinking about it, My friend and I chose to go over to Pandemonium and continue our adventures to this day. So, what do I think of Wurm Online? I think it is an incredible game, with so many amazing features and things to do, and I see it as a tragedy that there are so few people playing it and that it has so much untapped potential. My experience as a new player was great, but It still could have been a lot better. I suppose communicating some important things like the need to train skills and work with others are some things that would have been really good to know in the beginning, because this game is so much more than the game. And I know that this gets thrown around a lot, but the game really needs some basic advertising. I found it on a 2011 post on Notch's Tumblr! Meeting more people in the world as I was exploring it who were in my situation would have made the game feel so much less... empty? I have also made some observations, that I won't spend too much time on because they are touchy subjects, but I think the team really needs to listen to the players a lot more, and maybe credit ideas that have been suggested by players and implemented by the team to highlight that yes, we are listening. Anyway, I hope this has let people see this awesome game from a Newbie's perspective. Make of this what you will, I just thought it seemed like a good thing to post. Cheers!

Pretty much. It's staggering how new content keeps getting pushed out instead of fixing underlying problems with existing systems. You can look at the road maps and compare what happened to what was planned. What happened to the meditation rework? What's the status of the new UI? I remember something about a new cash shop... I think? There's so much content already in the game. The next step is to refine it. Imagine how a new player interacts with the game when they first enter combat, knowing nothing about how it works. Combat could be so significantly improved with it's clarity - without fundamentally breaking the existing mechanics. Meditation has been a black mark for years and remains so, despite numerous great suggestion threads for how to improve it. I agree with the move to Steam (might be hasty) but what comes after? Are we really going to designate time to getting another round of Jackal, or are we going to see improvements to the fundamental systems that affects all of the players instead of the ones who are currently participating on Jackal?

Such a good discount that I bought it. I have no use for it. Maybe in the future I will feel different. Total charge on my card was 8.50c US. They charged me twice but within one hour they took one off. I logged on to steam and it was a bit different with npc talking to me. I don't have enough time for WU but hey, I have it. I like WO but if you love WO then one must own WU

Back again, a week ago I managed to connect the boat bridge again. (near Havilah see my post a bit higher in this topic) I saw you have already drawn a thin blue line where I was in the works of terraforming, it is now connected, altho with another bend in the road XD The slope difference would have taken me to much time and dirt to make it one long straight road going down to the water, so yeah, I took the easy route like Spellcast back in the day, and squeezed in a bent 😛 Many thanks for updating the map and relocating the lamps

This will probably get me some more angry faces and curse words thrown at me but whatever The staff need to actually do their job and i dont mean they arent now but at the rate things are created issues are fixed and so on all screams to volunteers who say "oh if i got a hour a month to work on wurm il do that if i feel like it" vs passionate people who love the game and are willing to invest their free time into it and spend countless hours on it, And if infact the devs are spending countless hours on it but nothing ever gets done then at this rate are they really worth having on the team? but if thats the case i can see why other people who applied to join the team where denied or ignored(I mentioned this in some more detail in a post not to long ago) People are promised features and they are just not delivered with excuses given so simple solution, stop being a sean murray Bridges are still buggy as hell resulting in many tickets from people to the gm team time and time again People are discouraged to come forward with ideas because of https://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/172294-retros-guide-to-suggesting-good-and-doing-other-stuff-real-good-too/ Which is just stupid no suggestion is a bad suggestion we should not feel bad for posting a quick thought up idea it should be encouraged as maybe andy posts a 5 min worth of thinking idea and then bob 3 months later gets the same idea finds the topic and expands on it and turns it into a proper designed idea but with posts like that you wont have andy posting it anymore and thus a lower chance that bob will do what he did But most of all Staff need to stop saying "it is impossible" on everything that requires a bit more effort then normal a good example "free flowing water" is a thing that is said to be impossible but in the past wurm was || close to getting it but due to rolf's hot temper it wasnt added or when idea's are brought up that are valid ideas then insane counter arguments are thrown at it to try and shut that great idea down Oh and bring back old fishing and give all actions a keybind

I realize that the markets of old are a thing of the past, but I'd still love to see a few more icons added to the shop sign options. These would include: An oak or willow tree A fish A cow A sheep A candle An open book A crate or stacked crates What kinds of icons would you like to see added?

I hear a few grumbles from newer players about how hard it is to get started in Wurm. I think we need a thread about how the current Wurm Vets got their first break. I think you'll find most of them didn't hit the ground running, but clawed their way up doing odd jobs and getting a leg up from friends and village mates. Their successes were often hard-earned, because back then a 'fast track' was unheard of. From my experience any successes were on a personal level, vast wealth was never expected and high skills were admired but not deemed necessary to have fun. I'll pick just one skill out of the 138 available - animal husbandry: I've always loved horses, and, ever since I first saw the Wurm horses, I guess I fell in love with them. I was a villager when I got started breeding horses on Pristine, it wasn't my deed, but I was gifted the use of a field to breed some horses, with the condition that I do the horse breeding and would provide good horses for the carts and wagons on deed, but I had a lot of help.. I remember an exciting cart journey out to the Steppe, where I was shown where to find wild horses - I could not believe my eyes - lots of grey horses and they were free for the taking. I grabbed a rope, picked out a few and ran back home behind the cart leading my new horses. Breeding up these horses took time, and it was a joint project, if anyone produced a foal with traits we'd pick the best and breed them to try to get more good traits. I became stuck at 3 traits for a long while - I was not yet premium, and I did not know my low skill may have been stopping me adding any more traits. My village mate who was premium used to tell me the traits and I'd write them down against each horse name in a notebook. A lady up the road was breeding 5-speeds. At the time, I had no idea how she was doing it - I thought her AH skill must have been very high. She put an ad out over the freedom sever "Free 4-speeds to good home!" We jumped in the cart and set off as fast as our little 3-speeds would take us. As we travelled she typed the traits of the animals into our chat windows - We picked out three straight-4-speed stallions, white and gold. After that I started to breed my first 4-speed filly foals, and in due course I learned how to breed 5-speeds from 4-speeds with all 5 speed traits between them. Eventually I learned how to breed 5-speeds from two 3 speeds, but by then I was selling 5-speeds on Pristine. All this way before I went premium or got my own deed. When I went premium this opened a world of new adventures. It was exciting watching my AH skill rise and being able to see more and more traits. I got my own deed with lots more space for the horses. This did not happen overnight, it took a long time - then many months to build up a good herd, yet I still have the first named horse I got on Pristine back in 2013. Animal Husbandry is just one skill in Wurm - and it is by no means my main skill - yet all the skills are full of memories like these. What I'm trying to say is that success in Wurm does not come handed on a plate - although you will find as I did, that many more-advanced players are generous and eager to help new players get their first break. I owe a lot to the good people who were there when I started out and many more that I have met along the way. So calling all vets - how did you get your first break?

Hi Everyone! A late happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Wurm, we give thanks to you all playing and enjoying the game, and especially to your feedback! There's been a lot of upheaval and questions that right now we don't have answers to, and I know that makes things uneasy in your confidence in the game. I can assure you that we are here and going to be here for a long time, we know our goal of continuing to polish the game and address bugs and your suggestions and we are working towards it every day. Anyways, on with the news! New Keybinds Heading off from the pinned suggestion thread, we'll be adding the following keybinds next update! These are all aimed at making the game much smoother to play, and we'll likely be adding more as we go on! Hoist the main sail! The artwork for sail furling is now complete! Ships will be able to go full, half or no sail and will have models that match it's state, see below for all of them! The farming box art is also complete, with a few surprises included: This unfortunately won't be going live in this weeks update, but we aim to have it out before Christmas (Which is scary close!) The stronghold is revealed Last weekend the beacons were weakened enough to reveal the location of the stronghold, the hidden base of the creatures of Jackal! This led to a countdown of 144 hours, with a large fight expected. If that the end of it? Maybe not... The stronghold is revealed (Hey, they're not knowing for being the wonderful designers Freedomers are, maybe that's why they raid?) Shrimpalong! I refuse to call it a Christmas Impalong because it ends 10 days before Christmas, but it's on! Expect Shrimpiies usual slew of games, prizes, deaths and of course, impings! Last year we had the famous The Public VS Dreammaster trial, will the acquitted killer return? It runs from the 6th to the 15th of December, so plenty of time to celebrate with your Wurmian friends before the real world drags us kicking and screaming away... Wulfgar joins the dev team! You may see forum member Wulfgar with a shiny new developer tag on our forums (And I totally wasn't reminded by him posting beneath) Wulfgar has joined us to work on the game bringing a vast amount of knowledge on coding and has been working on bringing in quality of life changes including the new keybinds and the paper decay removal suggestion to come soon! Everyone give a big warm welcome to Wulfgar before demanding he fix things! What Retro is up to: I smartly decided to rebuild my PC, having purchased another 8GB of ram and a new 500GB hard drive. I forgot how difficult and time consuming it is to set everything up juuuuust the way you like it. What a pain! I also have a new keyboard coming and phone adjustable LEDs... for purposes My schedule is going to be long this week... That's it from us this week, I'll be on this weekend streaming on our official channel, taking questions from you and discussing the world of Wurm with you all Until then though, keep on farming, playing with daisies, and Wurming! Regards, Retrograde & the Wurm team

This year's Christmas gift? Got up early this Sunday morning, 2–3 hours into the much-hyped opening of the Stronghold, looking forward to a good rift-like fight, the culmination of months of work on Jackal. Luckily, there were still a couple of mobs on the ground; I even managed to solo a rift jackal and ogre mage with the archery skills and gear I'd spent countless hours honing. Then I joined in on the warmaster and another ogre. And then, within about 30 minutes, it was all over. That was short, I thought, but at least I got some points out of it. Not so. My archery contribution went completely unrecognised and I got zero points. (Yes, yes, woe is me and all that.) Two suggestions out of this: 1. Fairly reward archery at the stronghold (and rifts? never tried). I've spent my Jackal career doing little else and it's a kick in the teeth to find archery completely unrewarded in the endgame. If there are balance concerns, address them appropriately without a total denial of points. Different combat styles should be viable, or do we want identikit toons all swinging huge axes in unison? 2. Extend each Stronghold battle so that it lasts (random number) 12 hours, giving different time zones a fair shake at participating. Yes, this might make the battle difficult or impossible for any given player to see through from start to finish, but so what? It's too big an event for players invested in Jackal to miss because of pesky things like sleep, family, or having a job. This is especially relevant as we enter the holiday season. If estimating the player turnout is the difficulty here, GMs could be given the power to throttle up or down mob spawns / number of waves in real time depending on participation to ensure the battle lasts long enough.

Just wanted to post a little update, that I'm still currently working on this project, just won't be doing any update posts on progress until I know more about the Mod Loader, that's supposed to be coming to Wurm Unlimited, hopefully at that stage, if they change how texture edits are handled, I'll be able to release an alpha version of the pack for everyone to try, as well as revamp the post to clean it up a bit and include more of the progress I've made since the last update

I plan on attending (Ternesjach) and helping imp where ever I can. (Yes, will continue to imp around Blackmoor when I no longer have impables.) A room would be appreciated, but not required. P.S. Am also willing to donate some time to help whoever chooses to set up next year's Winter Impalong. Oh, by the way, you misspelled Ternesjach in your Donator's List.

You can combine sorting options with priorities.. highest rarity, LT, COC, MS, N, casts... demise and runes can be a check box.. they are either there or not.. it's a constant, not a varying cast; imbue is same like casts, but not that common to see selling. AH will just provide easy way to sort offers and that will eventually bring prices to new low, which will self balance eventually.. once you hit rock bottom, it's barely worth doing the thing to get such amount of coins. Positive for normal players - you do what you want and like, and toss the crafts/casts you feel like selling into the AH, down side.. nolifers and sketchy-personalities.. will spam this 24/7 if possible to get even 5-500/+ bucks whenever possible. All that works if we actually had a healthy amount of crafters/casters and buyers and the need for the two.. but for a new player there's no need to buy a new hammer once it purchases a QL90-91.. the hammer will be relatively just as good even when it drops to 70ql.. by that time.. the player will be ~past 70 blacksmithing and will be able to either improve it on it's own or buy one to last for the next half-1 year.. THAT IS, IF THE PLAYER LITERALLY ONLY DOES BLACKSMITHING to wear that ql down.. main issue is damage is same for everybody, but repairing it does ruin the ql more when it's done by unskilled char in repairing. So what do we do.. implement poor and higher ql wood work/metals/alloys.. implement metalurgy and carpentry overall skills and abilities to provide better tools.. making better skilled players able to sell higher "quality" items than new ones? Realistic maybe... but not fun for sure.. and the closer you get to realism.. it just gets more tempting to quit on playing and spend that money on a 1 week real experience at blacksmithing somewhere, ("why?")because why not This could be useful for a big market to sort things at the items sold there.. and to index the contents of all merchant contracts on the market deed.. could be implemented as a new npc contract sold from traders. Unsure how good wurm will deal with actual auction.. as some are going to great lengths to get a few coins.

Too complicated? just a npc like merchant/trader, that browse everything sorted by categories. You paid like 1c to put your stuff there (with already existing price mechanic), will be in limbo for a time (lets say 2months). you talk to the npc, browse the categories and select what you want buy, put the money and get the item (and change if needed). and/or reusing the mail system and the items is mailed to you (paying the 1c extra). money goes to bank like cod (this part already exist) The auction can be per server or cluster, not much different, most downside could be load time like xanadu highway system when load list of deeds

fishing was big update, makes sense, dairy products spiked at some point.. for whatever reason.. sheep/wool stuff.. unsure if there's business besides tiny bit of furniture and mainly tapestry work, but ok candle - what's the candle symbolizing here? What more to be added? Checking F2(skill tree) or random niarja profile.. could show several parent skills.. most probably deserve an icon, few of the subs probably do also for being often used and having their items or stock generated in the world..(makes it easy to put signs on buildings/shops/merchants/... or to 'sort' things in a warehouse building/cave by placing signs next to sectors with crates/racks/wagons... works for dock areas underground with parked boats also I guess... pretty much any kind of storage area/building/room/vehicle.. with sorted goods. +1

Because I do not pvp in wurm, also do not track or care about these as I.. do not play on pvp maps.., none of that matters to me. People who pvp need to start caring about their content and work on fixing that mess. Waiting ain't helping anybody, people who pvp just end up leaving.

I'm making a list of things I'd be interested in buying as an open offer to anyone looking to offload goods. I recognize that these offers may inspire outrage, but I think we need people to have standing offers in search of price floors. These are the prices I have no problem paying. If they are too low for you, that is understandable. Move along. Price is delivered to coastal Xanadu, but i can pick up for 5+ silver of goods. Natural Substances Items: (Currently OK) Hearts 50 copper / thousand Glands 50 copper / thousand Twisted horn 50 copper/ thousand Black Mushrooms 50 copper / thousand 100 QL meats 45 copper / thousand Ash 40 copper / thousand 90QL paper 300 pcs for 2 silver Be well and thanks for looking!

Yeah i even forgot these were a thing to be fair. I think that the whole point of the Trebuchet is to be able to deal a lot of damage. It requires a lot more setup than a catapult which you can pull out of a raid mine in a second, so i think its standing in a good place, expecially with how the defenders have the advantage either way. I think this is a misunderstanding on your part, and by 'your' i mean to say TC overall. When the pvp priest changes were first introduced you were able to almost oneshot somebody given enough spells casted at them at the same time, but this always had counterplay, you were always able to interrupt them, to move out of the way of the long casts, to tangleweave the people casting the spells. A lot of people complained either way and got them nerfed even though a lot of other people kept saying how they are fine as is. They were nerfed into the ground. You went from a standpoint of being able to be oneshot by spells given the right scenario to this scenario being virtually impossible to produce. In the last few months before the epic shitshow when we were fighting almost every week, you were not losing because of spells. Not one person died to spells, not a single one. So i do not understand why you guys keep asking for spells to be nerfed once again. Do you want them to be useless? Why not ask for priesthood to be removed alltogether, see how people respond to that? I have seen this myself over and over again. The staff will not only remove any comment that is offensive or foul, they will remove anything their opinion collides with. For a long time, every comment i've seen where the dev/staff member is having a constructive argument with someone, and is losing that argument, they will either remove everything said or close the thread. The censorship is on par with the Archeage APEX glitch censor. "Everything we dont like goes" . This is not ok. This needs to change. This needed to have changed a long time ago. Get a grip on reality people, your users are aware of these facts, and your poor judgement in the community management is one of the reasons many users have left. Which bugs exactly? I can think of a few ones, but they are not gamebreaking. Which ones do you think are? You see, without answering this question, you cannot demand " X " being fixed. Yeah, SOTG needs to go. It is downright stupid that you need to grind meditation for 3 full months in order to be able to stand a chance. Im sorry, it just needs to go... It will only go downhill from here. I myself stopped playing when they announced the Epic return being cancelled. That was a big bummer for me and many others. And its just one of the times in which they've straight out lied you us.

As a new player, (With what I would assume is an un-biased opinion), I would like to comment on a few things that may turn a new player away, in relation to a few of the points here. I play the game because I find it fun at a core level, looking into the future, etc. However, I really don't think that a lot of people are like that, and some things in this game take way too long that really shouldn't. For example, core characteristic skills such as Body Control that are essesntial to enjoying the game to it's full extent take days, if not weeks without the help of more expereinced players to train to a point of usefulness. That is one thing that has made it hard for me to get into the pvp scene, which I would very much like to do. Another thing is the state of the ideas that are being implemented to the game by the devs versus the actual needs and wants of the community. Seeing this as a new person to this community has been confusing, and a little frustrating to see fellow noobs suggesting reasonable ideas and them being shut down in some way or another as being too risky or hard to implement. If this game is to retain new players they must be listened to and these many threads about suggestions and the like must be acknowledged, which they don't seem to be at the moment. ADVERTISMENT! I found this game in notch's tumblr from 2011! I don't think people will really care about some game they saw on an mmo site from 7 years ago, and while I do understand that ads are expensive and can often end up where you don't want them, there must be something that can be done to help the population beyond just retaining existing players. Anyway, I hope that this has shone a light on what it's like for a new player. I might make a new post about the subject, so as not to deviate from this thread too much and because this comment is a bit all over the place.

I know I can speak for majority of players in mmo games that when they see a game that looks cool, a very select few want to go through a tutorial. They want to jump right in. As a newbie, they won't even know much of how the quality of an items effects the outcome of things. They'll eventually learn if we are able to get them to stick around for awhile.

Currently, when doing right click -> Move -> Place on objects that are already in the world, the green "ghost" item always resets its orientation to the default. Instead, I would like it to start out with whatever orientation the in-world object already had. I usually get the orientation of a newly placed object right the first time, but then need to fine tune the location a few times (especially with large things where you have to walk around a bit to see if it is right). Because the orientation of the ghost currently resets every time, I have to re-rotate it every time I just want to adjust the location of something. It would be nice if that was not necessary.

was invited into the game by Stoneman after being told that there is salvation to be had, following the closure of a minecraft server me he and fablecrafter played on. Spent some time in Stonebrook on Indy, getting my skills up then i got psychologically lynched by a certain someone for eating Stoneman's rare deer because i was hungry and too shy to type in alliance chat. (stone didn't mind after half a day but the bully was relentless) having been KoS'd by this bully on more than one deed, i seriously considered quitting, but built a rowboat instead, which took a very long time and alot of determination. Once built i set off to deli, thinking i need deliverance from hugh so the server should suit me. It was hard to find coastal real estate back then but after some time i settled on the North East and founded a deed called Indigus. (renamed it trinsic once i was self sufficient, recently renamed knightshade). My first break was a rowboat. Once landed I dove head into experimenting with paint and builds till i finally discovered deed planner. The moment i discovered dp everything was a gleeful, creative haze for 3 years and so trinsic was born. never really took to farming although i did enough to stock up. I think the advent of the crafting interface and complimenting the landscape with the right architecture, and all those floorboards and slate slabs i had to make to get rid of the marsh (back when slate slab was the slate brick texture and it took a very long time to make the slabs) was lengthy but fulfilling. Excluding the rowboat, Deed Planner was my first solo break, that which spun the wheel. I highly recommend joining an active recruitment deed until you feel like you should sub. Can't speak for alliances, it took me over 4 years and a move to Exo to find one that i can call family.

Why do you think priest teleportation is unreliable? People. You need them at the right time and place where it's convenient for you.. unless you're willing to pay for half the trip you had planned... The other thing .. today you find XXXX guy, tomorrow it's YYYY girl and both teleport you to different locations.. it's extra work to figure your location and path to where you wanted to go, time time time.. all that time could be spend playing the game, instead of solving problems you shouldn't have fallen into in the first place. As for delivery jobs.. there have been a few people doing that before.. even before the creature crates mostly deliveries were done to shore line.. rarely inland if that required sailing.. as wagons take quite some space in boats.. and than you need mounts to pull them and not to get killed by troll/hound pack while you deliver in maybe.. unknown parts of the map for you.. again you need community map and to rely on it to find your destination, how much do you charge for your time doing all this? could be 30min or half a day adventure with good or bad ending. #RNG With creature crates.. it's still a lot of work to load a wagon, 4x creature crates?!?!?!?!, and crates with the goods you're supposed to deliver.. a bit of a stretch with same issues above. That's where highway system comes... it mostly kills the off-server trades in bulk, but they still happen, it's carefree to receive your goods on your server by a person from same server using the wagoner.. convenience.. qol.. call it however you want.. Mailing system used to charge .10 silver per sent item, now it's 0.01; before it was a bit more convenient/cheaper/ to go to a market and buy items there.. than spend on wurm pigeons. Markets are... another time dump, filtering on your own through all the merchants and items on them.. different QL/enchants/rarities/imbues.. etc.. compared to... having a crafter/priest to call and ask for specific ql, enchant directly.. and using the mailing system to keep everybody happy. Some deals on merchants are a living robbery.. well both ways.. cheap or expensive compared to 'regular' pricing, if you feel lucky, you can always go and lurk around merchants to find such 'gem' offers.

Make sure that for now, you do not run =ANY= mods at first. Better to add those later once you are sure the base game runs fine. A few times, there have been issues connecting to steam WU servers if you are on any kind of dorm/work/military network that block certain connections. Let us know if that applies to you. Wurm apparently hates running fullscreen at a few specific resolutions. In the launcher (before logging in) go to Settings (gear icon) > Graphics and set it to Windows Resizeable 800x600. If that gets you logged in, come post back here and we will work from there. I think this maybe got fixed on WO but not WU ....? Make sure to try out multiple servers including some of the larger more stable servers, at least as a test. Offhand I would suggest testing on Otherlands or Sklotopolis, only because I am most familiar with those and am confident they are stable. It's possible a smaller server might have some particular issue, serverside mod, ping issue whatever that we can sort out IF we establish you play ok on "mainstream multiplayer servers". Never trust Windows Update to keep your graphical drivers updated. In some cases they instead focus on a "DirectX" friendly in-house Microsoft driver that do NOT always play well with OpenGL games like Wurm. Go here to the official NVidia site and get the Geforce driver from there and NOT from Windows Update. Sometimes highend or older "Workstation cards" designed for CAD and non gaming rendering, can have drivers that are more finicky -- but your GTX1050 is pretty mainstream gaming so that's not really an issue in your case. There used to occasionally be some issue with players not having some "redistributables" such as Microsoft Net and Visiual Studio C++ libraries. This is more likely to be an issue on a newer computer, as older computers that are used for games over long years gradually pick these up over time. See this thread and others like it. Win10 had issues with some, example: "thanks for the tip ,downloading the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update. works for me" The majority of people here are WO players, so there might actually be better advice sometimes for the steam version, on the Steam - WU subforums. Personally I would try posting in BOTH locations, to double your odds of a solution. There might have been a problem at one time with using certain "illegal" characters in a player name, I kind of forget the details now. Try a test character named something like KillMe (no unusual spaces or characters) just to see. Try also NOT using the same name you might have used before, something like TestMeBaby or something likely to never been picked before by anyone. Usually you can ignore (at least at first) any suggestions focusing on JAVA as WU has its own bundled java version and should not need any fiddling on your end. I would look at suggestions on changing anything related to Java ONLY after all else failed. Sometimes there have been particular Win10 updates and things that caused problems, especially if your system has some slight variation such as dual cards or dual monitors or 4K resolution. I am not too familiar with Win10 and won;t be the best help if that is the issue. In steam library also rightclick the Wurm Unlimited Shortcut > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Files. There is a chance it simply got one corrupted file throwing everything off, and this should find and fix it. WU has not had all of the bugfixing updates and improvements of WO, so there may have been some known issue "fixed" on WO but never fixed on WU. If worst comes to worst, refund the game before your "two hours" of playtime passes just from attempted/failed logins and maybe try again after more solutions surface or new updates are added. Meantime we can keep trying for better solutions here. Also this possibly should be in WU tech help not the WO tech section. Sometimes tech savvy WU players and admins don't check the WO help areas as regularly. If you want, you can "REPORT" your own thread and ask a moderator to move the thread to WU Help -- I have used this option a lot and it seems to usually work. This would be the correct subforum for this discussion: Home >Wurm Unlimited>Technical Issues>Client Issues https://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/forum/270-client-issues/

The Lunalong Building - Dracaa Greetings Wurmians! Retro here with the hottest of goss, the juiciest of news, the most scandalous of tidbits, aka the Valrei International! But first.. Patch Notes We'd be alright if the wind was(not) in our sails! No sea shanties here, but there is something coming very soon! That's right, the long wanted ability to furl sails and remove windspeed affecting the ships movement. This allows for better control when parking and also makes the docks a little nicer looking in my opinion! In the hall of the mountain farmer Also coming soon is the ability to farm underground! We'll be adding farming boxes for you to plant and grow any crop inside caves. These will be able to be built below ground as well as above ground in buildings. They are not able to be tended however. They don't need sunlight either, but that's wogic for you! UI works One of our goals with the UI update is to add scalability to text to allow for 4k monitors to be a lot easier to read, and with that we're working on allowing UI elements to be resized as you can see below To cut down on clutter within the UI the health/stamina bar will also be compacted, showing CCFP and sleep bonus when moused over Wurm Unlimited news As some have already stated, our focus for Wurm unlimited is shifting from content updates from WO to bug fixes and more modding support. We'll be adding the client modloader to the vanilla WU client which will allow for easier control of mods as well as many other features. We'll be working closely with server admins and modders via the Discord server in providing as much support as we can. While this does mean the end of content updates from us, our goal is to provide as much freedom as possible to the modders to continue to push what is possible in Wurm. Community Content The Lunalong is here! In the amazing underground halls of Kappa on Xanadu, located just near Lormere is the annual Lunalong by Dracaa, it's an amazing deed, with amazing people, and just, gosh, so amazing. There's even a maze...ing This Friday our very own Bloody Drongo will be hosting his annual fashion competition there too, so make sure to get your swimsuit body ready (or harvest one) and attend! There's a lot in the works, and our focus is on making Wurm the best game it can be over the next few months, this includes the loyalty system I have discussed as well as other features including improvements to Animal Husbandry, combat and a bunch of other things yet to hit the table. We're always looking ahead, and it looks great. Until next time, keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team

Server Update – 22/11/2019 Halloween event is over, existing ominous gravestones will remain in game until cleared but new ones will no longer spawn. Fixed a bug with moving village tokens that caused them to become invisible when moved over a long distance. If you have a token that’s currently invisible you’ll need to move it again for it to become visible.

I think many of us have been in a similar situation. Forced to wait before deeding or re-deeding for no reason, other than another player's throwaway forgotten action. ...and yet there is the vulture in all of us, the zeal of chasing after loot can affect (otherwise wonderful) players in unexpected and unpleasant ways. I think it is time to take that deep breath and reflect on all that player cannot take away from you - your friends, your reputation, your experiences, and your future friends and experiences. These things are in your hands, and I would say - don't be so quick to write off the game you love because of some unlovable action on the part of someone you don't even know. Surely they should not hold that much power over your future happiness... I for one would be immensely sorry at even the risk you might leave, you're one of the nicest players I have ever met, kind, helpful almost to a fault, good company and interesting to talk with. I think if this anonymous person ever got the chance to get to know you he would never have done anything against you. Personally I would give him, and the game, another chance Take Care.
