I just love building highways and other roads, it's my main occupation since I started playing. For fun today I traced most of the actual highways I built in southern Xanadu on the community map. Most of those highways I built just to link central south to other places. Included is an image of it, also an image of a crazy scenic trail I'm working on and a pic of The Observatory Tower on the peak. Legend : Red is already built, blue is the part I am working on now, yellow is approximate of what's left to do :). It starts at my deed and will end at the Sandstone Slumber Inn I built on the highway to Lormere, the whole trail will be all pretty high up. The main idea at first was to start at the Inn just to reach the desert high up on the mountain, where I'm sure either nobody's ever been or maybe very few. But since I had already built this crazy road up the mountain behind my place, with a deed on the peak named World's End, I decided to continue from there all the way to the inn :), If you ever come to Xanadu S 18 come visit me, I'll take you see some crazy scenic view of Xanadu. Not sure why I'm posting this, for fun I guess.

We have wild cats. They're awesome. Their tiny balls of fluff and rage. But they have to stay caged because they're wild. Then there are the dogs. They're nice, but if you tame them, they sit perfectly still and do nothing fun. I want domesticated cats. I want to get annoyed by them knocking objects off of tables but instantly forgive them because they're adorable. Dogs roaming around and curling up in front of random fireplaces would be cool too. So, here's the idea: Domesticated Dog - Created by branding and taming (25 skill required) a dog. The dog is connected to the deed and will wander no farther than the perimeter. It can freely go through doors and gates on deed unless locked to prevent passage. Every 18 hours the owner can send dog hunting with a small chance to return with a large rat, pig, or wild boar. Domesticated Cat - Created by branding and taming (50 skill required) a wild cat. The cat is then connected to the deed and will wander no more than 5 tiles from the deed, but has free reign to go through doors and slip through gates. Every 18 hours the owner can send the cat hunting with a chance to return with a hen, rooster, or pheasant. Special feeding dishes are made with pottery that reduce decay of pet food placed inside (chopped meat or pet food). Pet food (mostly meat) recipe is added to the cookbook. Pet Bed - Tailoring 30 - creates a bed that pets will return to regularly.

Most of the time I spend in Wurm is around my deed building, crafting, breeding horses. The normal stuff we all do. But that doesn't make for a very engaging stream, so I thought I should start a new series for my Wurm streams called "Wurm Roulette". Basically, the idea is to pick a completely random location out of all the maps and try to get to that spot no matter what! Our first adventure took us to Deli H10. If you want to catch the streams live, I'll be streaming Wurm every Tuesday evening (european time) on YouTube. The easiest way to catch one of my streams is to join my Discord or follow me on Twitter where I will notify each time I go live. Here is the map of all the Wurm Roulette streams so far: In addition, I've compiled a playlist of all the Wurm Roulettes, here:

I'd like to offer a simple addition to the game- Ice fishing. Not sure how complicated it might be to enact this, but it sure would be fun to have it. Something a little different to look forward to in the winter months. Allow small lakes and small bays on larger lakes to freeze over in the winter time. No ice at sea or in tunnels. Do not allow any vehicles or animals to be ridden out onto the ice. Player walks out on foot, cuts a hole, sits down and fishes. Player cuts a hole in the ice with a hatchet or axe Player fishes using a pole. Player sits down when fishing, and fishing is done largely afk, a lot like the old fishing system sounds like to me. (I was not in the game for the old fishing system, but it sounded pretty afk simple). Increased chances to catch certain species of fish when ice fishing, and maybe add a new species just for winter ice fishing. Allow camp fires to be built on the ice surface. Maybe have fishing holes freeze over faster if no campfire is built in a neighboring tile. If the devs felt up to it, add an ice fishing shanty to the game- built using light weight materials. A structure comprised of wood shaft frame tied together with rope and covered in animal hides to block the wind, for instance, that resembled a teepee or a small yurt. Maybe have options to suit player's differing taste (We all like options in such things ). A small campfire should be able to be built within it. Ice fishing holes would never freeze over when covered in an ice fishing shanty. Players could secure them for use over the winter, allowing for supplies and harvested fish to be stored there during the season. Any ice shanties left on the ice when spring arrives disappear, and anything left in them falls into the lake and begins decaying. Ice fishing shanties should be collapsible like a tent (though much heavier). They could be loaded in a large cart or wagon for transport. Just an idea I've been thinking on a bit. A search on the forums did not turn up anything when I looked for "ice fishing", so I'm not sure if this has been suggested before. Either way, I'd love to pause everything in the brief winter spell and travel to the nearest small lake or bay and throw up an ice fishing shanty for a week of ice fishing and other shenanigans during Wurm's wintry season. Humbly submitted... ~TH~ Hermit of Hermitage

So I have let this go far too long without an update of about any sort and I greatly apologize folks! I have been blazing away at a ton of things for this year: The Impers: The Games: The Beds: Lastly, I plan this to be the final Impalong I host here at Blackmoor. It has been a wild 4 years(almost) of hosting, but alas a lot of factors have contributed to this decision Front and center is that I am getting married next September, and simply cannot devote the volume of time necessary to ensure the Impalong is up to snuff so to speak. I do spend most of the year on these things! Next is the financials. When it comes to Wurm I simply let myself get carried away with spending, mainly supplies for more construction of the deed for the Impalong, along with everything from prizes to Impalong materials. The reason why I spend on the Impalong rather than prod the community is that I can better ensure the quality of volume of material when purchased, and leave it as one less thing to worry about come Impalong time. What I have encountered at far too many Impalongs was a shortage mainly of resources, or of prizes ect, and that is something I simply never wanted to allow. Next is time/sanity, as I said I work on these things year-round, and especially come Impalong time, I devote quite a lot of that precious resource towards it. I enjoy doing it, to give back to the community, but it s quite an affair to solo host an Impalong on the scale that everyone deserves; and especially last year I was quite at the end of what a single person could manage/run. Sanity, that would also be nice to have a bit more of! Lastly, I have no clue where Wurm will be in a year from now population wise. I really just do not know where the population will stand following the Steam release but I know for certain if it does not go well then I do not want to be the last memory of these Impalongs to be that of a small population attending it, but to rather go out with a bang, and have them looked back upon with fond memories for all such as how I view the first Impalong I attended. I would not necessarily be opposed to trying to organize something on the new Steam server, but there are a lot of factors involved there, and the possibility may arise to continue hosting at Blackmoor in the far future, who knows? I would also gladly assist other would-be Impalong hosts, should they wish me to; and I still plan on just generally attending Impalongs as well, but the cards are not in my favor at this point for me to continue to host right now, who knows what the future may hold though in succeeding years. On a lighter note, however, don't forget to join our Impalong discord channel! https://discord.gg/QeQRWK6

My deed dropped less than 24 hours ago and some upstanding player came along and built a shed 3 tiles from where my token stood, just to steal a planted HOTA. Now, they've got the HOTA and I am left with a shed in the center of what was my deed so that I may not deed again. I've already put in a /support in, though I don't think it'll go anywhere. I've read here in the forums from others with similar thefts that have claimed that the team considers using a shed to circumvent anti-theft mechanics on PVE to be "fair game". Whatever. Another ridiculous decision in the long list of Wurm's ridiculous decisions... Standing here at the location my token once was, I am now over 3 hours in waiting for a response for my /support call. And when a GM finally does contact me, in the off chance that they're able to help and remove this shed from the center of my deed, the question begs to be answered: Do I really want to bother redeeding? Honestly, at this point, no. There are many reasons, including the ever-dwindling player base. No, I'm not rage quitting over a silly statue. But I am finally giving up, disappointed. How many are left playing this game? And out of those people, how many are not even giving a deed owner 24 hours to redeed before hawkishly building sheds inside of the deed to swoop down on valuables? And how many of them are leaving their sheds behind, as a big middle finger to the person they just stole from, blocking them from redeeding over their hard work? Please, I implore you (the remaining community) to take one thing from my post: This game is dying and doing scumbag things like tossing up (and then leaving) a shed in the middle of a village that has just disbanded, just so you can acquire a 5s item, is going to leave you with nobody left to play with. To all of those who I consider my friends, I will try to see you one, last time in-game. Some of you aren't very active so I don't know if I will get to visit everyone. For all of those that I've had good relations with, thank you for the 10+ years of fun gameplay and a great community. If any of you would like to keep in touch, feel free to add me on Steam. Send a private message if I won't recognize you by your Steam handle.

Hello team, I'm writing to humbly ask whether you might consider reducing the size of Sloping Sands in the westerly direction by 10 tiles, and reducing its overall perimeter from the current 20 to the standard 5 tiles. Here's why: 1) Compared to other servers, Sloping Sands is a pretty bleak area for new folk to spawn into. When I first joined the server back in 2013 it was my first introduction to Wurm Online, and the area around it was built up by players in a beautiful way that inspired me to go and find a patch of countryside and start my own deed. These days, Release is quiet and we've all moved away from the starter deed, which means it's just sand and dirt and mountain as far as the eye can see with a couple of lonely houses on the horizon. Since we can't help to develop and beautify Sloping Sands itself (which comprises three buildings in which new players can't do anything except trade with the public traders), I'd like to, possibly with the help of some other community members, build a small community deed on the west lake there with open access for existing and new players, with an inn with free beds, stables with free horses, a community tavern and so forth, to make Sloping Sands an inviting place to land, and to show what few new players we get there what can be done in Wurm and give them a safe place to sleep, acquire a first horse, and get food past that first 24 hours in game if they're not yet ready to head out in the wilderness completely alone, or until they find an active recruiting village to join elsewhere on the map, like Harvest Moon Lagoon, where there's room for them to build and farm. 2) The deed of Sloping Sands and its perimeter covers almost all of that beautiful little lake to the west, despite the fact that the outer wall of Sloping Sands ends ten tiles inside the deed border on its west side. The 20 tile perimeter has no negative impact on us to the north and east, and is a minor annoyance to the south in that any deed necessarily has 25 tiles of space between it and the end of the developed area of SS, but to the west, the perimeter and excess deed tiles of SS means pretty much that whole lovely lake is consumed. It's a waste of a beautiful space. 3) Larger perimeters no doubt used to serve to protect access to starter deed areas and to prevent over-development in the initial land-grab, but Release is seven years old now and we need to work harder to entice people to stay. In addition, the new highway system means that the roads into and out of SS are well protected from rogue deeders and builders, and reducing the perimeter from 20 to 5 would still leave the highway to the east tunnel safely within perimeter space of deeds, and the highways to the north similarly safely within deed and perimeter space. 4) I'm happy to put in time, resources and silver needed to make the area more inviting. I'd just like to do it in a way that complements and leads naturally on from Sloping Sands, rather than one that hugs the edge of a 20-30 tile stretch of no-man's land to the south and west of SS. I belong to an alliance of kind and generous community-minded players who have built several of the highways, bridges and canals that make Release as accessible as it is, and we're skilled builders and craftspeople who love our server; I'm sure some of them would be willing to help with or take over management of it if for any reason I ended up putting Wurm down for a while. Let us make it more inviting for newer players to join our community.

I've noticed an large increase in viewers on the forums. These viewers are unregistered. I thought there are to many of them. Then I thought....they are google and others learning from humans. Is this crazy? Or is it real? They are looking at things decades old. I have some fear.

I don't recall saying anything about having a problem with experienced players playing WO Steam, that is to be fully expected. You are counting on quite a few assumptions to all play out for your scenario to come true. It's easy to say "well what if this, this, this, this and this all happen" and then write up a dire ending. I do not think WO Steam will fail, so I'm far from worried about your doomsday scenario.

I am a longtime resident or Release and live somewhat near Sloping Sands. I have seen many other starter towns being redone, but ours still looks like a desolate wasteland that is not inviting or welcoming in any way. I would be very enthusiastic about this project and would gladly donate time, materials, items and silver to a community improvement project for making this area nice. I also agree with Crimson that building a newbie friendly open access deed near to the town as it is now is difficult and impractical due to the huge perimeter and would love to have an open deed on the lake where new players could actually live, pickup and use items, smith things, and interact with the deed as opposed to buildings that are just there but aren't functional or visually appealing for them.

I agree fully we need to make rel slopping sands better. Unlike many other starting area's it needs love care and ability to make it look nicer for all . Have some nice redo instead of looking as if your going onto a lost old sever .

Very few people have enough pigs or other animals to make use of lots of food. After the first week or so of playing, most people can pump out far more food than they can possibly have a use for. Well, here's a passive use for food! Designate a larder for guards. Put food in larder. Any templars from the same deed, or tower guards with territories overlapping the guard larder will passively consume food and gain minor buffs. The better the food, the better the buffs, but never anything good enough to make them ridiculous.

Assume that your notion is carried through and a merge is ruled out. Also assume that some WO players will move over (not many, but some, this is the best case scenario for the model by the way). These WO players are EXCELLENT skillers, they are the diehards who know every dirty trick in the book to skill quickly; most of them lack RL jobs, and most of them are also fairly organised, so they can afford to specialise and skill 24/7. A month passes, the player count drops like a rock (this happens with all steam hosted mmorpgs, it's just market saturation). You are now left with a server where the diehard WO players run the economy (faster skilling and more time to skill), you've killed your original server (if we wanted to play on a dead server, we'd play WU), and absolutely nothing has changed. So, in essence, you are already going to get the scenario you outline as undesirable, the only difference is that you're not going to have as many skilled players around to help people settle in, because they all cut their losses and moved to a legacy themed WU server.
  20. 1 point
I am in the camp that supports never merging WO Steam with OG WO. The original game is not going anywhere and will always be available for players to join should they prefer a more developed world, it would certainly be a much easier game experience for a new player with established roads, guard towers, gear, etc. On the flip side I think WO Steam should remain as a fresh perspective for those that prefer this type of experience. Merging the servers, even after one, two or three years, would be a taint on the fresh world because even a few years is not comparable to the 13 years (since going gold) of the skills, equipment, currency, etc. that would be brought over from original WO, skewing everything that the fresh world had established by that point. Hopefully a definitive answer is given prior to launch so that I know if I will be subbing to WO Steam for a very long time, or not at all. Very much looking forward to a brave new world.

(My apologies if this idea has been brought up frequently - I haven't used the forums here in a long time!) I've had some furniture ideas sitting around in my head for a long time, and after seeing the fine carpentry items and the addition of the improved cooking system, I feel like these sort of things would fit in perfectly with the game! Frying pans, cauldrons, and all sorts of other cooking utensils have been sitting in my oven and inventory for years now. Maybe there are better storage methods available and I just wasn't aware, but what I think would be a cute and highly functional item to add would be a... Kitchen cupboard! Nice and easy addition. In terms of 3D models, all you'd really have to do is alter the Alchemist's cupboard slightly. This Ranch Hutch from Animal Crossing would be a nice reference to work with. Cooking-related tools and containers stored in it would receive significantly less damage over time, plus it would look nice next to our larders While I was thinking of this, something came to mind that would open up a world of possibilities in terms of house/deed customization. I've seen mentions of being able to hang items from the ceiling, but what about wall fixtures? So many decorative and storage options would become available through this. Light fixtures of varying complexity (ranging anywhere from a simple iron sconce that can hold like one candle to hanging golden candelabras/something like this); simple, short and long wooden and metal shelves; shelving that can hold specialty items such as pans (1, 2 (spice jars that allow herbs and spices to retain their fresh status for longer would be neat)), functional and decorative sword/bow/other weapon displays, more tapestry display options; wall-mounted feeders for cattle and horses; the list goes on. Just imagine a cave deed dotted with little lights attached to the walls, or beautiful fixtures for your master bedroom? I think something like that would be a lovely addition. Being able to put little pottery or marble planters on shelves would be super cute too. As free-standing options of many of these already exist, it would make sense for most of these to be available past, say, 30 or higher skill in fine carpentry. An exception to this could be short/long wooden shelving and basic sconces, for example. What do you guys think?

I've accidentally bought the huge axe skin, decided to give it a go. To be honest the default huge axe looks way better. (thats an adamantine axe) Also the handle is so big that it clips through the finger Both axe skins look like woodcutting axes imo, when the skins were announced, I imagined something more influenced by jackal, like embeded jackal crystals, new wood type handles etc. Meanwhile, as Wipeout stated all the weapons look like they came straight from the factory, and they're more like decorations than actual weapons. Also, the default huge axe skin is already a bearded axe, so its not really that much of a difference tbh, just a little bit different shape of the blade + an oversized handle.

Good points made Steveleeb about being oneself and expressing viewpoints from that unique perspective. Too many people let themselves be molded by others by conforming to their idea of what is acceptable to present. I prefer more those who venture off the beaten path into vistas of ideas that I might not have considered myself or streams of contradictory thought that may make no sense other than to get you to realize that yeah, that's the point. The old brick wall that we smack into will clearly make its point but what about that shiny object on the bending path just before it. Perhaps it was a warning message or just something cleverly placed to stop the momentum of charging forward so blindly. We all have our place here and the differences just make it all the more significant. Easy enough to ignore those we don't find of interest, especially upon these forums. Then again you never know who might appreciate "absurd suggestions" and the mind of the one who thought to make them the center of attention, if only for the moment. Yet of course we will not appreciate everyone so kindly but they too will appeal to someone else who just seems to get their own vantage point and relate to it from the safety of these written words so distant from their rainy sky's or sun shinny days. When the light fades who will remember or even know that they have gone..... =Ayes=

Rolf... I am a little late to this discussion, but I have a suggestion. You mention that when WO is posted on Steam, an entirely new server will be available to new players. One of your arguments is that new players will appreciate a server where they can make a difference, without having to fall under the shadow of strongly established players. That is a solid idea. But what about in addition to the new server, we give new players a choice? In this scenario, new players who join us on Steam would be able to join the newly created server, or choose to join the existing, current servers. This choice would be given to them at the start, with an explanation that if they want a fresh start experience, they should join the new server, but if they want an established world, with rich history and well established players, they should join the existing servers. This way, we could spread the new population around. While it's reasonable to think that new Steam experience would be well achieved with a new, fresh server, I am willing to bet that a lot of new players will be drawn to the established lands instead. There is something to be said about history of the land as a feature, and about getting help from established players, which often a draw for new MMO arrivals. After all, we have plenty of room on the current servers and spreading out the new population would serve well both the veterans and the future Steam arrivals. Valdor

Sounds like you cringed heavily at the possibility of WO no longer benefiting from WU mod code. Let me flip that around, and cringe as a WU player at CC's decision but using your terms: WO should make the game open source or they'd be shooting themselves in the foot. Just imagine if the game gets really popular and staff quits, dies, gets higher-paying jobs, whatever. They'd be gone and since it's currently obfuscated nobody else can make a fork and continue the work. Good way for Wurm devs to kill their own game's scene in the long run. Naaah, if WU is so unprofitable, CC doesn't need even our mods. If CC really needs our mods to the point where modders obfuscating their code would be bad for WO players, then maybe they should give us our updates as promised in the first place.
  47. 1 point
Well, modders, time to start obfuscating your code. It's only fair.

Howdy Shrimpiie, I'd seen another impalong coming up and offered them some booze. Seems like it might be a bit too much lol. So since your impalong is coming up shortly after theirs I'd thought I could split the amount I had on hand to give away between the two events. I did a look through my main wine barrel racks and looks like I have 15 barrels of moonshine, 4 barrels of vodka, 9 barrels of whiskey I can spare with out dropping too low. Should all be atleast 90 ql and just a rough guess 20 or 30 barrels of various ales 60 to 70 ql. So splitting that between the two, assuming they or you even want it that is what I have to toss out atm. As with my previous post if you or someone wants to swing by some time and pick em up it is all yours. If not I'll just make some more racks >.<
