Today, I lost an old friend who has been with me through most of my characters life in Wurm. Its not much, but here is a small memorial for a horse who gave me so much and took so little in return. Rest in peace, Swiftgage.

I've been noticing some strange happenings in WURM ONLINE. First thing your going to say is that you know me and I am crazy. Listen to the message and not the messenger. I think a portal to the underworld has opened up and things are starting to come through. Ive seen several questionable items. I will show you the one I have a screen shot of. I believe it to be a demon with horns. He is small but in numbers they could be dangerous. In connection all the cows nearby were dead. What have you seen that you cant explain? Show us a screen shot.

Demon, lol. Except there's no such thing Ordinarily I'd say this was probably a bush on low graphics settings, but considering all the nearby cows were dead then it's obviously an alien. Go find his UFO? It might be faster than a knarr.

While I understand the intent behind this suggestion, for the reasons the players have stated as well as others we won't be taking any actions like this. I won't lock the suggestion but I can say it's not one that is going to be considered

How about a big, fat, nope. There is more than just a monetary value connected to someone's deed that you simply cannot compensate for. Many deeds have been around for over half a decade, tons of money into them, time put into the terraforming, materials, ect. There is just no way to properly compensate for it. The amount of servers arises from previously higher population counts, where there was a legitimate need to expand the Wurm world, but removing servers now would decimate the existing playerbase for virtually no gain whatsoever. -1

-1 The cost to keep a server going is negligible. And each server is a home to many people. You don't push people out of their homes to move into your apartment. Also, who said PVP was a failed experiment? A lot of bugs, mistakes made, and downright broken things sure. But we had years of pvp on both chaos and epic, much fun was had, and many good memories created in spite of all that.

Obviously you do not know that one can retrieve a mine door using a crowbar, or is it that you want to keep up the feud? My impression is that you are not extremely sensitive towards other peoples' feelings. It is not your first conflict by harming public access to mines and ways if I recall correctly. The Samling area is the region of the first starter deed on Independence, if I am informed correctly, and a public tunnel there is certainly very old and probably holds reminiscences for many players. Perhaps you should do a bit more of thinking and informing before acting.

Some players like the vastness of Xanadu, others like the smaller servers. Some folks like to wander around a lot and keep things simple, others have invested years in developing their deed(s) and their little corner of the map where they call home. Some people like the history of the game's servers and have invested a lot of time in archeological activities- which would be wiped out and rendered obsolete with all the servers being wiped and combined into one new one. Wurm is a great game, and all the servers are unique. I've not traveled them all, but I have friends that have and they talk of each servers differences- with regard to both community and geography. The answer to building a better community and game experience is not to force everyone closer together into one server and wipe out everything that has been done and tell them all to start over with some temporary perks. Be the kind of player that enjoys the game and is fun to live nearby. Build a community of like minded players. Be friendly. Don't lament what you wish were different about the game from days gone by, but enjoy what it is. Wurm is a great game. The only negative thing I see in it are players who are negative all the time for no real good reason other than personal preferences and gripes, or they just like negativity and enjoy stirring things up. Only a few settlements are recruiting on the forums. I know from personal experience that if you put a good idea out there that you are personally passionate about, and give new players something to get involved in, they will join you if they like what you are offering and many will give the game a good chance, and some will stick around long term. Also, you'll attract some older experienced players that are looking for a good crowd to play with and that will make everyone's game a lot more interesting as well. If you want a more active community to play with, start a recruitment forum post, or join a community or alliance that is active. Wiping all the servers and restarting everyone on one or a series of smaller ones will drive many if not most from the game. Just my humble, personal opinion. ~TH~

Welcome To the 2nd Lunalong Greetings friends, I would like to cordially invite you all to the second Luna-a-long. Hosted by Dracaa (myself) on my deed named Kappa, on the Xanadu server, at coordinate Q-15. This is my second time hosting an impalong. I've been working on this since last year. With work in real life only slowing me down. I'm proud to say though, my impalong is almost ready. It will be this November 8th to the 17th. I hope to have the maze finished and ready to explore, there will be a few small events, and all the imping madness you've come to expect from events like this. So why name kappa? Why a Lunar Festival? But what is a Luna-a-long? Rules The Entrance The Deed Kappa is a lovely lakeside deed very well equipped to handle many participants there are merchants, hotel rooms, a cathedral for sermons, direct sea access via a canal. the impalong building is a three-story building with plenty of equipment and containers full of mats ready to help your imping. The Imping Facilities A quaint three-story building filled to bursting with forges, kilns, alters, coffins, shelves and other storage units for priest and participants alike. Materials on hand Materials still needed Events Staff Impers Token Special Thanks for all those who helped so far. This article about setting up IntelliJ for WU modding is very good: For decompiling I'm using Procyon, this shell script will make decompiling jars easier: #!/bin/bash DECOMPILER=/usr/local/share/procyon/procyon-decompiler-0.5.36.jar ARGS="" for i in "$@" do ARGS="$ARGS $i" done java -jar $DECOMPILER $ARGS I've just named it "javad" and placed in /usr/local/bin Then decompiling a jar is done in the terminal: javad [jarfile] -o [outputdir] Modding with Ago's modlauncher is done using javassist, which is a good idea getting to know. Ago's example mods are all you need to learn how to write mods, make code injections etc. Everything else is about reading the decompiled code and making injections or adding hooks.

Thank you. I knew I wasn't crazy. I blew the lid off this invasion, right? I need help my map is swarming with the invaders of all kinds. Today I had to run for my life from a moss covered demon. I think it wanted to eat my eyes. I kept hearing "eye eye eye" This next photo is uncontroversial evidence. We are all in danger.

Sure, it can happen. Of course, in WU, the actual money spent by the player is usually so minimal as to be not worth considering in the overall scheme of things unless someone goes batshit crazy "donating" for more useless cosmetics than they really need, on servers that have a shop. But only a few WU servers have any kind of a cash shop anyway and as a rule on those that do, the value for what you spend is worth it if you use any kind of common sense. The majority are completely free once you own the game, so what do you really lose if they go down. (unlike WO where one has conceivably spent hundreds or thousands over the years and have to keep paying monthly for deeds and/or premium). Also, I like to think of it as not keeping all my proverbial eggs in one proverbial basket. Personally I play on a few different, very well established servers. I would say the odds of any those cutting & running are about on par with this new company that took over WO doing the same. But if one does go down, I still have the others I play on. It would be annoying, sure, but not devastating since the money I've spent on WU is a drop in the bucket compared to what I've spent on WO for a comparable period. edit: Losing the work put in would also be annoying, to be sure, but that's somewhat mitigated if it's a server that didn't take as much "work" as WO. Still would be a bit easier to take than if WO ever goes down, where the work and money over the years are not even in the same league as WU.

There are ways to make WO more fun, like the treasure maps on most WU servers that spawn unique creatures once found and then there is server events that happen once or twice a month with teleports from a token or gateway.

This is such a crap idea. But I'd still vote for it on condition that this hypothetical new server is 99.9% PvP with a tiny little place reserved for PvE. Say about 10 x 10 tiles should be ok

When i make a house wall, i load up the wall in my crafting tool and a tool that is required and i can create it. Why not do this for everything that needs to multiple items added. like forges, barrels, bsb, boats. it would make life so much easier if i am making 100 mine reinforcements to just have my mallet in one slot and the unfinished items in the other and just take stuff from my inventory. just simplify, so it makes more sense since its all the same instead of all having different ways to craft. thats it.

My hope is they do something like the following: change skill gain, make it more like WU, i do not mean faster, just change it that it pays to use the highest QL tools at all time. the thing with the skiller crappy tools has always bothered me. ----------- Make it Free to play but also offer a subscription option. free to play can do anything they want but is limited to 1 character. subscription comes with 1 additional character and the ability to purchase additional character upgrades (one time purchase, but not playable if subscription ends) subscription gives a flat 5 % skill gain increase and some vanity options maybe like "no passive decay on items in your inventory" or something thats usefull but not game breaking. --------- NO RMT! NO ACCOUNT SALES! ------------ make a decent shop, give it its own currency ( shop coins) and give people with a subscription a few coins a month that are only useable in the shop and can not be traded. and sell shopcoins for RL money. in the shop: sell skillgain potions (2 hours or 100% ) lots of skins for characters and walls. maybe things like 1 time gender chance, 1 time character remodelling etc vanity items like a skin for a fountain. do yearly new themes in the shop. like a medieval theme for year where most new skins have that theme to it ----------------- servers: make servers special, give them a theme of some sorts. have a server with harder terrain, more brutal animals and as a reward for that better ore vein quality or something. maybe let some servers have unique animals with unique hides that make unique and new armors, not good perse or way better, just different looking and other tools and skill requirements. spidersilk and willow bark armor.. i dont really care about the names just give more variety, have one that has almost no red animals but way more blue ones, maybe prebuild the highways between the starter towns and make it feel more like a kingdom that is safe, some guard towers etc. build some monuments with a purpose that cannot be claimed or terraformed around . for example a huge mountain peak that is named and gives an achievement if climbed. a pvp server and jackal ish server though without the skill reset. just limits all skills to 50. ---------- trade: please fix trade and just make a server wide auction system where if i have the requirement building or deed upgrade or a central DEV build deed with an auction house but lets take trade to the games of NOW and not need forums, or emails. --------- EVENTS! please make more events. oooh and on the faith and sorcery and meditation, you are starting a new game, so you want to think about doing some real changes now, since no one can complain about losing hard work yet. maybe just combine all these things into one new system without the channeling skill but with skills for spells and wisdom, books or tomes, or something needed to learn the spells. i dont know but i feel like everything was added on top of each other and not always with to much thought on the long term consequences. you can change this now. thats its . ###### dudes i just a wurm 2.0 please take my money and go make it!

There is no need for more servers, but there also isn't a need for less. I think we have the optimal amount at the moment so -1 from me. Servers should be empty enough for people to roam freely and build the deeds they want without being pushed against other peoples' deeds.

We could take you in on Cele if you'd like!

-1 because i don't want to build new deed from scratch when I haven't even finished current one, -1 because i don't want to look for abother cozy spot near water like i have now, -1 because i don't want to hastle with moving , -1 because i cannot bring with me rare guard tower, rare altars, rare 101 courier mailbox and other stuff significant to me I can't pick up, i don't want to design and build buildings again even if i had mats. Is that clear to you? P.S. With Steam on horizon god knows what can happen, game as we now it might dye very soon, or may dye in all of its forms, why even bother with your idea when it will bring nothing?

Could you please note how fresh the map dump is, thanks. It would be nice if you could pull your end of the highway somewhat along the coast towards Sunset Canal. That way we can connect and avoid stomping around blackwidow's place. Something like this but not necessarily exactly like this Either the eastern route or the western route or both

You broke a valid highway connection by removing portions of the road without consulting GMs, and also failed to replace the tiles properly, invalidating the highway. There are screenshots of it, and all of this was against the rules at the time. I really wish you'd stop being dishonest about old GM actions taken against you. You were temporarily banned because you broke the rules. Please move on; slandering the GM team isn't a very nice thing to do.

Yep. When I log into WO after playing WU, it's so tedious I have to log back out after a short time. I feel like I'm trying to play handicapped, half blind, and bogged down in mud. So then imagine the people who own WU, already tried it, and found it too slow, grindy, and tedious. Hard to imagine any of those people enjoying WO. Oh, and nothing wrong with "kiddy stuff." hehe. It is a game after all. You don't stop playing because you get old, you get old when you stop playing. :)

yeah, that's one of the things that seperates wurm from most of the others, i beleive 90% of us would not be playing this game if it was subject to wipes and i believe that's been true since day one. Wurm is a home you can build. I speak of wurm online, you take the usual risks when you join a WU server. Empyrion has alot of wipes because it's a developing game but at least it has blueprints, a way you can save your creations to import them post-wipe. We have deed planner, unfortunately it can't be imported. This is not a problem because Wurm doesn't wipe. *nudges april 2007 quietly under the carpet*

I'm a bit confused why so many people talk about this like moving to the steam cluster is mandatory, suggesting how to make their move there easier or even threatening to leave for good if they have to pack up their stuff. The current servers aren't going anywhere like they haven't for years, why should you? I for one will just look forward to the eventual merge and welcome the influx of people, possibly by helping them settle around my neighborhood. And if they won't come, nothing has changed for me anyway.
  48. 1 point
Please bear in mind this is nothing set in stone. We really want to ensure that if we take this step it's a step that has been discussed with you all, so you know our plans moving forward. Specifics may change or we may not be able to give full answers because at this point we haven't sat down and worked out our full map to make it on steam. Speaking personally, I really do appreciate you all lending your thoughts and being constructive, I'm on break at the moment, but I'm able to relax a little lore knowing the place won't melt down without me just yet!

Decompiling WU code In order to decompile the server, server-common, client and client-common I use Procyon(https://bitbucket.org/mstrobel/procyon). It's used with a simple .bat file to decompile the whole server related code (and client) into its own IntelliJ project. This works well as you can switch over to that project and search for things or use it as a reference. My video starts out using WurmServerReference project and that is what it is, the server related code decompiled and put in it's own area. The following code is the .bat code I use to make it. cd C:\Users\Jason\IdeaProjects java -jar procyon-decompiler-0.5.30.jar -jar "C:\Users\Jason\Documents\WU\WU-Server\server.jar" -o "C:\Users\Jason\IdeaProjects\WurmServerReference\src" java -jar procyon-decompiler-0.5.30.jar -jar "C:\Users\Jason\Documents\WU\WU-Server\common.jar" -o "C:\Users\Jason\IdeaProjects\WurmServerReference\src" You may need to change the paths for your computer system. Once the paths reflect your system copy the code, paste it into a any text editor, name it whatever (I use "server to java.bat"), finally save it somewhere you'll remember so you can run it when CodeClub updates WU. The client-approach equilvent to this is pretty much the same thing except I put it in its own IntelliJ project, "WurmClientReference". Video to demonstrate: setting up mod, coding it (I just quickly copied for this step), making it into ".jar", and testing in WU. About the video: 1. You'll see me switch over to another project like the one I made. I did this so I could quickly copy the code and test it out first. I had to do a few debug runs to get things working even for a mod as simple as this. I frequently copy code form other mods anyway as there is more stuff then I seem to be able to remember. 2. This is a manual way of setting up intelliJ. I'm pretty sure it's possible to make a default Maven/Gradle/Ant/etc... code to set this all up by default. For how the manual ways works. https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cbibh4lZik Debugging Code (Thank you so much bdew!) Do what bdew said in the quotes to setup a remote debug configuration and run it.

Well this one had some history. August 21 2011: [22:15:43] Aged fat horse gives birth to Young Saraflea! [23:50:05] A foal skips around here merrily. [23:50:05] She has a normal build. [23:50:05] It has fleeter movement than normal. It has a strong body. It has lightning movement. It can carry more than average. It has very strong leg muscles. [23:50:05] Mother is Aged fat horse. Father is Venerable fat Danceminsc. [23:50:53] A young saraflea grazes. She was one of my early five speeds. She was born in the days when no one wanted "yellow" Palomino horses, because they were so frightfully ugly: This is sad but as you can see -- it was also true: But she had lovely stats and a sweet disposition, and over time she gave me many many many wonderful foals. Then came a day when I had too many horses and needed to clear some out. I found a young player named Rapi who had no horses, and when I asked her favorite color she said she liked ... palominos! I told her I had one she could have free, because I wanted it to find a nice home: [06:15:50] <Neome> one is a very very old yellow mare named saraflea, altho she is old she has "perfect traits" an d is what they call a 5-speed horse [06:16:10] <Neome> she should have nice babies This was May 17 2012, so Saraflea was about 10 months old and nearing the end of a normal "horselife" in Wurm. Rapi was very happy to get Saraflea as her first ever horse in Wurm, especially such a lovely creature. (Well, maybe not lovely in appearance ^-^ but lovely in spirit. The next time someone tells you a girl "has a nice personality," Remember Saraflea.) Rapi and I had a long talk about how to take care of horses, how to breed them, feed them, groom them. I never talked to Rapi again, so I had no idea how she fared in Wurm. However, I was going through some of my alts the other day, having just learned that "/caringfor" will list by name every animal under your care. Most of my alts were coming up blank; due to the extended leave I took from the game, the horses they once cared for were apparently long long dead now. But my alt named Bamoo was caring for one living horse -- Saraflea! This was more than three years after that young foal had been born. I double checked all my records, but that is the only Saraflea I ever owned. I had not seen her in years but her name popped up over and over, as the mother of many lovely five speed foals born in my early days as a horse breeder. I tried seeing if Rapi still played, no sign of her and likely she left Wurm. But -- apparently someone else ended up with this very old horse with a very long history. Because she was still out there someplace, alive and apparently well. I am sentimental with the best of them, but I can no longer Care for a horse I have not seen in many years. So, on October 4 2014: [12:34:59] You no longer care for the one creature you used to. Saraflea is out there, someplace. She may no longer be Fat, but she is most assuredly still Venerable. She is no longer ugly as sin, having blossomed like a swan into a beautiful golden lady (thanks to the wonderful Wurm art developer team. Better than any plastic surgeon!). If you know of Saraflea, or have ever seen Saraflea, she could dearly use .. someone to Care for her. She is on borrowed time now.... * corrected Rapi to be female it was long ago and I had forgotten that part of the story *edited to reupload image if the FUGLY yellow horses we used to have
