This originates from an idea of Cecci here: The idea would be that filling smelters with ore from bulk containers, usually in a set of crates or bsb, should not be limited to the weight the loader can carry, forcing to drag over again and again. Instead, it should work like inter bulk container transfers.

I am not sure, but I think they drop the support because it is a lot of effort to maintain vs how much revenue it yields. The Team is very small and has to focus its efforts to keep the game itself alive, you could argue "they should have known this before!", but if people always go into such scenarios with the worst fears then nothing will happen. But I think if WO sunsets, then WU will just die alongside with it cause then no one remains to maintain it either. I see it as a "either we just shut it all down or we try to keep some part of it alive" attempt and for that the WU part is sacrificed. Is it pretty? No, but they simply lack the ressources to do everything they want I think. Losing devs on a already small Team doesn't help either. Sindusk was a great addition, very sad that it ended up as it did and I am not even into PvP, but he contributed a lot from what we could see. Budda is another huge contributor and was paid too, while his position has been well filled with Samool, the manpower is still minus one, at least I did not see someone new being brought onto the Team. Then ofc loved ones that departed... Some people you can't just replace and hope it works and Wurm as is I think would require very dedicated devs, not just someone that can write Java - paying those people with the small funds that are left is another story. When you hire someone you have responsibilities and when the future is as uncertain as it is now.... it just makes the most sense that what we see happening is happening. Scratch together the remaining ressources, try a reboot of sorts and pray. I just fear the fixes, QoL changes and new UI wont be enough to cut it - if a ton of people join the game on Steam I see nothing that would keep them playing for more than a month or two.

See the thing is wurm was originally going to be pvp only but thanks to a big group of players in its early days this was made to be a pve area first then pvp and pve separate but high combat is still a must for pvp to survive(dont want others to be stronger then you) as for pve 95+ fighting 90+ weapon skill ql 90 drake and you can take down a troll at no stam without running to low health add in 60+ body strength and you wont even reach 70% health(without lt) sure its not a "must have or else i get 1 shot" but its a nice have to have high As for goals i agree with you partly i wish there where some goals(next to journal) like community getting together or solo goals that take a long time to do require a lot of effort and time and mats but again adding in just a few of those will make people grind to them and then complain about wanting more For me currently my current plans are redesign my deed, finish making my 5 big farm lands, create my 2nd storage deed, create my off deed animal pen area, wall off my entire mountain range with 2 sets of walls(1 side rendered tall wall other side hedge with a 2 wide road in between), hollow out the mountain range and setup wurms first junk yard where people can drop stuff off they dont need anymore be it mission items or furniture or what ever else and il store it in a big big giant walled off area away from everyone so that it wont lag anyone Id say those self created goals will keep me busy for atleast 3-4 more years if even that As for travel to rifts have summon soul be able to teleport with your horse that you are leading(1 horse only and lead only not ride and give warning on riding) and then a return soul spell afterwards this will make it so that priests can be useful to summon people from coast lines back and forth to rifts and their boats(costing 100 favor both spells as it does now) would make you only have to travel to nearest coast line

I fully agree to wipeout. The decision to drop WU support is likely to stoke resentment and anger in WU communities, and could harm WO and the planned steam move quite a lot. More over, it will cut the synergies between WU and WO development. Many nice improvements on WO are owed to ideas developped and tested on WU servers. I think WU people should and might accept a reduced frequency of updates, maybe even giving out some data to modders so that they may implement changes on their own prior to those updates (this is done e.g. when forks in open source are cooperating). But just leaving WU out in the cold would be a bad move and has been a wrong decision.

Allow us to just drag food to the hitching post to put it in the trough without needing to open it and put food in the trough directly. It's already a thing with tackleboxes, which is far more complicated with subgroups than the hitching post is. (could be useful for other items as well)

The games are different but what people look for is the attitude of the company behind it. If you abandon a product on Steam when the player base doesn't agree it's done and finished, they will get mad (justifiably so) and they will loudly let everyone know who gets near any of your other products.
  8. 2 points
No, and i'd say it's probably worse. Asking players to invest time and money into an MMO and then starting by abandoning a different version of that game (and on the same platform) is not a good marketing strategy i think.

Hello team, I'm writing to humbly ask whether you might consider reducing the size of Sloping Sands in the westerly direction by 10 tiles, and reducing its overall perimeter from the current 20 to the standard 5 tiles. Here's why: 1) Compared to other servers, Sloping Sands is a pretty bleak area for new folk to spawn into. When I first joined the server back in 2013 it was my first introduction to Wurm Online, and the area around it was built up by players in a beautiful way that inspired me to go and find a patch of countryside and start my own deed. These days, Release is quiet and we've all moved away from the starter deed, which means it's just sand and dirt and mountain as far as the eye can see with a couple of lonely houses on the horizon. Since we can't help to develop and beautify Sloping Sands itself (which comprises three buildings in which new players can't do anything except trade with the public traders), I'd like to, possibly with the help of some other community members, build a small community deed on the west lake there with open access for existing and new players, with an inn with free beds, stables with free horses, a community tavern and so forth, to make Sloping Sands an inviting place to land, and to show what few new players we get there what can be done in Wurm and give them a safe place to sleep, acquire a first horse, and get food past that first 24 hours in game if they're not yet ready to head out in the wilderness completely alone, or until they find an active recruiting village to join elsewhere on the map, like Harvest Moon Lagoon, where there's room for them to build and farm. 2) The deed of Sloping Sands and its perimeter covers almost all of that beautiful little lake to the west, despite the fact that the outer wall of Sloping Sands ends ten tiles inside the deed border on its west side. The 20 tile perimeter has no negative impact on us to the north and east, and is a minor annoyance to the south in that any deed necessarily has 25 tiles of space between it and the end of the developed area of SS, but to the west, the perimeter and excess deed tiles of SS means pretty much that whole lovely lake is consumed. It's a waste of a beautiful space. 3) Larger perimeters no doubt used to serve to protect access to starter deed areas and to prevent over-development in the initial land-grab, but Release is seven years old now and we need to work harder to entice people to stay. In addition, the new highway system means that the roads into and out of SS are well protected from rogue deeders and builders, and reducing the perimeter from 20 to 5 would still leave the highway to the east tunnel safely within perimeter space of deeds, and the highways to the north similarly safely within deed and perimeter space. 4) I'm happy to put in time, resources and silver needed to make the area more inviting. I'd just like to do it in a way that complements and leads naturally on from Sloping Sands, rather than one that hugs the edge of a 20-30 tile stretch of no-man's land to the south and west of SS. I belong to an alliance of kind and generous community-minded players who have built several of the highways, bridges and canals that make Release as accessible as it is, and we're skilled builders and craftspeople who love our server; I'm sure some of them would be willing to help with or take over management of it if for any reason I ended up putting Wurm down for a while. Let us make it more inviting for newer players to join our community.

New: Emails will be sent to deed mayors when upkeep falls below 30 days and again when it falls below 7 days. Change: Decorative items in containers and placed on other items should no longer decay. Due to the situation with Xanadu not receiving the 5 hours sleep bonus after the rollback, we will be providing all servers with 10 hours sleep bonus during the regular restart on the 14th of November. Bugfix: Fixed a bug where some items made before the signature update didn’t actually show the signatures when over 20 quality. Bugfix: The volume of measuring jugs can be adjusted while the jug is in inventory or in an inventory subgroup. It cannot be adjusted if the jug is inside a container. Bugfix: Hitching posts can now be placed and turned when not planted. Bugfix: Fixed an issue where relatively new traders failed to have merchant and trader contracts in their inventory for sale. Bugfix: Fixed the issue with some decorations and light sources not getting heating to glowing in a fire source. Bugfix: Change stone shards’ description to match the name. Bugfix: Fixed blue terrain on certain settings Bugfix: Fixed some of the excessive shininess

I am sure there is someone thinking "hey what a crazy cool idea this is, I shall make everyone a zombie for Halloween". If only I could get a refund for the 2 weeks I am going to lose not playing whilst this enforced stupidity is going on. It has totally destroyed my immersion in the game, I am really annoyed and considering quitting if this is the state of mind of the game developers. We should have the choice, there are yellow potions if you want to dress up, we should not be forced to join in. Why not make a yellow potion return you to normal during the event? At least then I can enjoy not looking totally ridiculous.

-1 From me for the direction this is going in. Making and using village tokens and metal conversion tokens and such when there is alchemy and metallurgy skills in the game that would/should naturally come into play when converting materials and metals from one type to another does not make much sense to me. Wogic is a thing of its own though, as we know. I like the idea of being able to manipulate a metallic item from one type to another (among common metals at least- not moonmetals and other such special materials), but not via tokens created or earned in the game. It was an alchemist's dream to figure out how to turn lead into gold, for instance. Would be cool if us alchemy inclined folks could actually do so in the game with high skill requirements, as well as manipulate common metals into other metal types like silver and electrum. Just my humble opinion on the matter, for what it is worth.

i don't even know, is Halloween something that is celebrated outside of the US? I mean where I live there is a very small group of people that are trying to get this holiday going here as well but its not really happening so far. I don't really mind the creature changes except the fact that the skeletons are sometimes hard to see but i don't really mind. i did not like the change to my own person. I don't care either way for zombies but just that my appearance changed without it being an option. Why not just hand out a x day lasting super yellow potion at Halloween so people can choose if they use it. one more thing that did was really annoying. we did a RIft during Halloween and instead of any good loot drops from the named dudes people were getting witch hats. that sucked monkey balls.

The problem that we've had with new graphical content has been that the client mod launcher would have to be enforced, and a lot of players have a difficulty installing it. Many players don't know how to handle a file browser, but they love playing Wurm. They don't mind learning Wurm, but installing the mod launcher and mods, editing properties files, copying files to the right folder etc. is a big difficulty for them. For me it's an issue I can't relate to, and perhaps many of you too, but I do understand that it is a difficulty, and it's causing a big problem because it limits servers to only have server side mods and content. I'm currently working, as I've mentioned before, on an updated version of Ago's client mod launcher, which will handle installing mods, and which will permit different mods profiles. It should have a built in functionality for loading packages from the server. It will have to be as easy to install, as installing Wurm, otherwise it won't work. That way servers can provide new content, because all players can be expected to have the client mod launcher installed. I'm also planning on expanding the server to build a map generator into the server. That way generating maps will be as easy as starting the server. The map generator would need an API which permits extending with mods, for custom map generation. But first things first.

I had this whole post written up and then somehow it got all deleted by the stupid text editor so in short il list it below again Anyway you think the difference is big i as a player think it is small they are the same game 1 is just more social the other is more freedom Wu has higher active player counts then wo it reaches higher peaks too Companies who drop support for a game and then release a new version that is slightly different get blasted online in this day and age All it takes is 1 post on r/games with 5-6 people to talk on it for it to blow up and be yet another company doing dirty tricks(guys behind ark are a good example) Youtube channels like yongyea legacykillaHD or belluar news love it when companies pull ###### moves like this as it creates content for their video's Heck sidalpha has an entire series dedicated to dirty dev's where he talks about companies big and small from triple a studio's to 1 man dev studio's he doesnt care if there is a story a video will be made You want wurm online steam edition to work but it will not work by dropping support to an already existing product as it will only piss off those customers who use that product and those youtube channels will eat you up milk you and spit you out after their video's are made Those 3 channels alone have a subscriber count of 1272600 users(give or take) that is 1.2m subs that could potentially see a story about "indy dev company dropping support for existing steam game to push people to pay monthly instead" as a title or "indy dev screwing over loyal fan base for more money" there are many ways to spin it but the channels are out there and both big and small will love a juicy story coming from an indy company to have a change of pace away from the big bad 3(ea activision-blizzard and bethasda) and the viewers will love it too and then good luck making gcg happy It honestly is not worth it you might think "oh its only a small handful of people who arent happy with wu being dropped" but we only need a small handful to be angry or to report something for it to blow up and no one wants that to happen Maybe still keep doing updates to wu but then once every 6 months or once a year and just create a proper pipeline for it so that its easy to strip out content you dont want wu to get(like rifts) and give those who own wu on steam a coupon for free prem(existing wu players only) for 3 months or something after first prem purchase on steam version Those 2 things combined will probably please the biggest loud mouths and will prevent those youtube channels from going "oh they dropped support in order for monthly payments" as that will make people think "oh they are doing what bethesda is doing" and then good luck fixing your image afterwards

Just to point something out "you are doing it wrong" Buy a set of horse shoes from different quality(10 difference upwards) if your skill is 40 buy a 50 60 70 80 85 90 95 set and start imping that 50 one none stop until your skill gets close enough or you notice you are imping too often move on to the 60 and repeat this combined with a full set of coc tools and sleep bonus will get you that blacksmithing to 90 in no time and you will be left with a bunch of horse shoes at 95 of which some might have even gone rare that you can sell and you will have made your money back on the horse shoe investment from before

I see no reason for the wrapping to be charged additionally.. could be skipped instead.. it just makes sense.. Not that such things matter around often.. Do you pay 2x copper for a wrapped meat piece sent over the mail? Just because it now says wrapped? Should a pizza slice cost 2x because it's wrapped? 🤔

This makes me wonder if they have considered the ramifications of this decision at product launch if even 0.1% of those 300,000 abandoned WU owners decide to point out the broken promises? Many, many other games have experienced this type of thing when launching a new product on steam after making a decision to abandon an old one. Usually this doesn't go well for the developers.

By the way, upgraded GPU recently. It runs FFXIV on full high no problem, yet struggles with Wurm and I haven't even blasted all the settings to their highest. The ideas, the skilling system, the trials and errors, all that is there. Jagex gave up on Java for a reason. I think a rewrite IS in order at this point. Hell, a rewrite BEFORE launching on Steam imho.

Raid Ban - 10/31/2019 ENDED - 11/02/2019 Today's rollback due to certain undesirable things happening, has caused mine doors placed during the time between the update and the rollback to play a trick on their owners. Now they just sit there and laugh as the very people who very kindly and gently placed them onto their holes in the ground, try to pass through them and end up smashing face first into them. I get it, I get it... It's Halloween... why should the pumpkins get to have all the fun! Unfortunately, the mine doors forgot one thing... who their owners were..., and Since they do not trust a smiling face as proof of passage they let no one pass beyond. So... All PvP servers are now under a RAID BAN for about the next 24 hours to let the owners report their holiday prankster doors to the GM's for replacement. For everyone not on the PVP servers, if you placed your mine doors during this update and rollback window, you are affected to. Just send us a support ticket and we will help you out as soon as possible. Thank You, Wurm Online Team. Update: This ban is now over as any who cared to report their deed lockouts have been given ample time to do so. We will still assist with messed up mine doors, but PVP deeds have had enough time to report theirs if it was urgent.

The scum of the forums liked that filthy drivel once more. It seems that always the lowest cheer that motto. And towards the thread starter: We probably never met, but please rethink your decision, you seem to have enough friends making it worth to continue. Personally I always detested deed looting yet saw a point in saving items which would have rot away otherwise. But this vulture mentality I always found repulsive. (btw. also Sklo's vulture mentality fishing for customers).

Did a rift with 1 priest+3 fighter accounts/2 actual people yesterday, waves 3 and 4 took us about 2 hours or so (probably could have cut half an hour off if we didn't want to clap warmaster cheeks and go out clearing all the stray mobs), gonna be commenting on smaller rifts instead of the bigger ones with people running around like headless chickens. Rift AI is super bad. we had a certain spot where the mobs would walk over, find a mob in a collapsed cave, and try and target it every single time, pretty much forcing us to fight them all at once on that certain place. They would also aggro things outside the rift range and stare at the mob until it died. Teleporting rift mobs are annoying at best, and most of the time they'll just run straight back into melee. Rift dogs taunting breaks combat, interrupts cast timers, and resets focus. I feel like if it's that powerful, it should have a message saying that you were taunted pop up, much like how player spells do. Rift caster/warmasters don't have messages for their spells like players casting ice/fire pillar do, they probably should. The AOE cast damage as far as i can tell is being reduced by both body strength and soul strength, or maybe soul strength and armor? Oblivionnreaver was tanking the warmaster and was at 80% health when my 45 and 55 strength alts (all three in scale, but obliv has rare/supreme parts) were at dying. They'd get absolutely slaughtered by the aoes whereas obliv could just ignore them completely and i was dispelling tiles solely for the other accounts at the rift. We managed to kill the riftmaster in about 15-20 minutes from starting combat, we just facetanked the rest of the spawned mobs during the 50-25% part and didnt back out until turrets spawned, and he was at about 70% health when we re-engaged after healing up. Alts got demolished in like a minute of aoe's so it was just 2 people for about half of the rest of the fight and we still managed to kill him, i'm not sure what kinda weapons (probably LT lol) other people are running but we didn't have *too* much of a problem with it using BT+venom weapons, considering i was told it's impossible unless you have like 8 people. Only had a problem with people taking 5% health a second from double aoe cast. DR from his gold glow should probably scale with amount of people instead of being a flat amount. When a riftmaster gets onto a bridge, he spams his AOE non-stop without interruption aswell. i guess that's more of a bug than anything. Overall, it was a hell of a lot more fun than pub rifts, and i'd probably go to more rifts if nobody else showed up. My horseless alt running away from the riftmaster at 0% stamina while we beat up turrets was a hoot For rift points, as far as i can see, it's about 50 Base points, +2 for every point up to 100, and +1 for every point after that (approximation, i've only been to like 3 or 4 rifts). Someone that shows up for only the first wave can get almost as much participation as someone thats been there for the entire fourth wave, even though its probably 5-10 minutes in total. I feel like rift dogs should count for 1 point, jackals 3, ogres 5-8 and riftmaster like 40-100 or something like that, and balance the rift points reward appropriately. They also should only give points if you had the mob targeted when it dies, tagging is dumb. Expanding rift loot purchases for things like buying seryll+addy+glimmer and maybe random non-rift things like super expensive random affinity tokens, random unique bloods, weapon skins, sleep bonus, and other cool things would probably encourage rifting more. As far as i can tell, Metallic liquid is the ONLY practical thing you can get from a rift.

Hardcore grinding games, like Wurm is dying. If you want to be on a sinking ship, keep on sailing. If you need an example, look at Runescape. New runescape is a joke of grind in comparison to the old one. The truth is, wurm must adapt to the new generation of gaming, in order to survive. Wurm is fun, the way it is, WHEN there are enough players, but it has not been for ages now. You talk about new players? What you expect the new players to see? You expect new players to see this "exciting" combat? You expect non-hardcore grinding players to sit hours at the forge, improving that good old cauldron full with needles? I've spoken with dozen ex-wurmians, what all of them said is the same. Game got boring. You keep sitting at that forge improving your needles (which you will dump afterwards, anyways), just to get that skill to 70. The time you spent doing that, basicly burned you through, and you got sick of it. There are few dozen of players who enjoy doing that. Good luck running MMO, with that limited of a playerbase. Seeing some posts about the "major updates", new content, i'm shocked... Tell me, what update was so major? New textures? New furniture? New sounds? Sheesh.. Wurm Unlimited is MUCH greater than Wurm Online. Passionate server owners developing their plugins, implementing new stuff into the game, for the fun of it. They are doing it not for the profit, but for the sake of content. There is an actual development involved in the servers. Some i've found way more fun than WO. Stop trying to pour the water out of a sinking ship, fix the holes, before doing so.

In my personal opinion, I don't think we have to. This game does not need to be saved. It's doing quite well on its own. Sure, it's nowhere near the popularity or the fan base of World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy XIV, the latter of the two I happen to play. Wurm Online is a special place and it gathers a very niche and understanding group of people who enjoy the game for what it is. And yes, this is a game and it should always be treated as a game. I do not login every day or even every week thinking, "Dang, this feels more like work. I should get paid for being here." And for reference, I am a child of the 80's, born in 1980, not far from the GenX people and I have to agree with elroth and everyone else here in that I do not share your views just because I was born during a certain era.
