I don't want to fully disagree for the sake of disagree, but as someone who explores a lot I'd personally feel cheated out of what the game has to offer if the option was there to just fly over 50+% of the map. Of course I also know that If it's not for me I don't need to take it or use it or whatever, and that is true. But knowing that this game has a real world economy I know it would be abused in a matter of seconds. On the other hand I'd be okay with something like this if you were only allowed to travel without anything but starter tools on your self and only for the first 24 hours kinda like the food buff you get at the start. Although you can do this by simply doing /suicide as a new player and you can continue to change spawn towns. WU is built on QoL, it's main attraction is things that are not going to happen in WO or things that will take a long time to become available in WO and the zero sub fees of course. I've experienced a lot of these QoL in WU myself but WU does not effer the same risk/reward that WO does nor the community. -1

The free deeds option is definitely one of the things i debated the most on, I am not against paying for deeds. maybe after talking to the players that already joined i will change this. You are right Atazs, this is my 4th server, but none of them closed while people were playing there and if you talk to the people that played on them i am sure they can tell you that they didn't leave because of how i acted or how i treated them. My biggest mistake was trying to have more than one server running at a time which divided the player base and my time. I won't be repeating that mistake again. Thanks for everyone's input!

Yes, other than being an autoupdater, the launcher has some custom functionality that couples native code to the client code, which just allows us to do a bit more. I think though that with the issue you've posted, all that it needs is to be build for lower gcc versions, though it wouldn't hurt if you updated yours. -lowmem and -test arguments will run the respective default clients, -c will open a client selection window. Use like this: ./WurmLauncher -lowmem ./WurmLauncher -test

rare dirt? take, drop, dig up, you have normal dirt... / every time you get some.. try to make a rare kiln or a coal-pile if you don't want to drop or sac' it rare log? take, drag to campfire/forge/etc.. will be dealt with soon.. rare rocks - sacrifice, or mail for cod cost to anyone in GL-/Freedom rare metal ore.. smelt, keep on alt/merchant npc for own or sale puposes rare branch, cotton, herb, etc.. alt/merchant or same as for the rocks.. unless you have a magic chest If you were to mine a lot... to get 1-10/+ rare/supreme rocks a day.. that's a problem.. but if you have no use for them, nothing stops you to just dump them in a corner to decay or to have an altar near by to clean up. Makes no sense to dump rare dirt in bsb to turn it to normal, same for food, etc

The rift mats around the red beacons on Jackal take a lot of damage, last beacon had the mats with 50dmg already. I suppose it is not intended as opposed to Freedom rifts these beacons are not meant to be cleared within days after they appear. Issue: going this rate it will be impossible to gather rift mats from beacons in 1-2 weeks.

Welcome to The Commonwealth! The Commonwealth is a new PvE server with the intention of providing a well balanced WU experience so as not to make it either too hard nor too easy. We spent days on creating the perfect map for this, and even more time on making sure that the mods are set up correctly. It is hosted by us personally so we have full control of every aspect of the server, making it easier to intervene should it be needed. Check out our website for detailed information on the mods and changes! We also have set up an entry on wurm-unlimited.com which can be found here. A short summary of the most important details: 2x skillgain 3x action timers 4k custom made map 80k creatures, 45% aggro rate 50 hits per wall Deed cost and upkeep enabled 20 starting characteristics, except 21 BC Can load stuff without 23 BS 10 FS, 1 in other skills Crops won't rot We hope to see you on there!

that says was from 2015, shares get expensive when rolf "bought" (maybe the only one doing it) and falling after that, at this rate we can buy part of wurm in some years

I've played WO a while - 8 years I believe. I like the epic scale of it, but at the same time... since having been introduced to some QoL features in WU, I've began to feel there can be a balance between epic scale and convenience. I'm suggesting we consider adding 4 regional portals at every starter town, to the 4 quadrants of each server (NE, NW, SE, SW), as well as portals between the starter towns on Xanadu. This allows new players exploring a server to more easily reach a desired area at the far end of a server - but it doesn't eliminate risk entirely. The region they teleport to isn't guaranteed to be safe and will have the same dangers - just without the trek from the start deed to the "region" they're heading to. It also is added convenience for the existing player base. I realize some hardcore folks won't like this, and that's just fine. Don't use the portals then. The simple truth is - the game isn't just supported economically by hardcore people. If the game is going to last long term and we hope to add additional players, there has to be a balance between hardcore and convenience, like many of the other improvements/conveniences that have been added over the years.

This suggestion i inspired by the following two topics taken into conjunction: https://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/171743-quality-of-life-changes-to-keep-new-players/ https://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/171742-long-term-player-count-observation/ At the moment, wurm's ingame map is pretty useless for navigation. However, one of the essential charms of wurm is the feeling of not knowing your exact location. So I propose the following modifications. 1. Allow a player to use a compass on themselves to mark their location on the ingame map (put a long timer on it to discourage constant use) 2. Allow players to share pins with each other (right click, share, paste into chat) 3. Let us enchant compasses to add extra markers on them - for example, lurker in the dark pointing to owned land vehicles, lurker in the deep pointing to owned boats, lurker in the woods pointing to a player's branded animals, and locate soul pointing to a player's own corpses. These locator runes could be range limited by cast, and show up much slower than the compass settles. 4. Let us pay a small feet (5c) at a deed token to have an owned vehicle marked on the ingame map (chosen from a dropdown menu). Losing a boat/wagon is devestating at any point in the game. (edit) Obligatory Anti-This-Will-Break-Pvp note - Just entirely disable all of the above on PvP servers to avoid balance issues. The changes above offer us all useful features, but do not enforce their use and subtract from the charm of wurm.

Well if we look back at history, doesn't take much to recall that Rolf said all changes to Wurm would go to both WU and WO. While people may decide to try to change history, that was the reality he stated back when WU came out.

I actually didn't know that. But it makes much more sense now and the chance is way more coherent with my experience in casting, with it being spelled out. That's an odd mechanism. So I can only get a "natural" 105 cast (without journal bonus) when doing a 100 cast on a 0 power existing cast? (Conversely for your example, which has a bit more slack) And if I improve a cast by less than 20 points, I diminish and possibly squander my chance to get an extra point because it's unlikely I get an even higher cast to exceed the 20 threshold from a now elevated baseline? Just wondering what this is supposed to do except introduce even more RNG dependent success into enchanting.

I know you're trying to talk smack but that's actually a decent idea for new players. My first time I tried WO I gave up (sometime around 2010? Before the graphic update, for sure), because we had to get out of the massively overcrowded spawn area first, which is no fun with no gear, and the endless expanses of civilised land were just demotivating. Let (new) players be semi-random teleported to a place without deeds using a starter town token or NPC, chosen in a similar, but more lax way as the Rift locations are. Should obviously come with a significant warning that you won't know where you are, and consequently unable to retrieve your stuff when you die, but it should be fun for the more adventurous souls.

No, the situation is not "cleared up" by your response. He does not state that he will be employed by GCG AB, only that he will be preforming his previous functions of oversight. There is no clarification here if this is done voluntarily in his spare time with as much time put towards this as he chooses. This could very well be the situation or he may be an employee which would entail some sore of payment compensation. Also, this needs to be considered within the context of the post where I stated this for a particular reason, not isolated as it was within your quote and response. =Ayes=

I like earning my deed start up coin too, but it is not a deal breaker for me as long as upkeep is required. I have no interest in running my own server so understand I have to compromise on some things I may wish were different. This server has many things I do prefer such as slow timers, slow crop growth, no starting with high stats/skills, minimal start-up town, a GREAT map, high percentage of aggressive mobs and some nice QoL mods without going overboard. I am enjoying my time so far and will likely be moving here permanently

I know absolutely nothing about this development apart from what I read here, but I'll post something pompous anyway. As an expert in business, gaming, IT and the universe in general, I can see important clues which may have escaped some of you not-quite-so-intelligent people. Game Chest Group is a Swedish company. This is significant. Sweden is also the home of legendary 70s pop group ABBA. With all the money they made from hits like "Dancing Queen", they would be well placed to take Wurm to the next level. Game Chest Group is an anagram of Got Cheaper Mugs. Could this be a hint about the new owners' marketing strategy? On the other hand, Game Chest is an anagram of Gem Cheats. Uh-oh. Game Chest Group's initials GCG are also the initials of the Global Church of God. Has Wurm been bought by some sinister religious cult? They are also the initials of the Grilled Cheese Grill. This may be significant, but I haven't thought of a reason why yet. So there you have it. This development could indeed be a great opportunity for Wurm. On the other hand, it could be a disaster. Or it could make no difference at all. Remember, you read it here first.

yea some aspects were pretty frustrating at the start. something would have helped me is go through a mandatory tutorial at the beginning where you have turn climb on and climb a hill, where you have to fight a wild cat, where you have to create a raft or edit the rowboat recipe to where it is even easier to make, like 25 materials each, where you show the player how to activate a tool, how to heal your wounds. this game seem to be a learn yourself or ask kind of game, but new player NEED to know how to play before stepping into real game.

Not even going to voice an opinion on what this means for the game because it doesn't matter. However, reading through the thread, an explanation of what this is could've been presented much better than it is here. The original post should've been written by Retrograde and had a PR statement about what this means moving forwards to settle the anxiety of the change. Instead, it fell to players like @Malenato give a better insight into the potential futures of where this could lead in the future. Regardless, everyone should form their own opinion as to what this means. To do so, you need an accurate picture of the events that unfold, so I'll try my best to organize the full picture and CodeClub can correct me wherever I'm wrong. Switching Shares Referencing the press release that @zethrealposted here: Rolf sold his shares in CodeClub (representing "82.9 percent of the Code Club shares") for a "total of SEK 3,370,000" ($346,250 USD at current exchange rates). It goes on to say "of which SEK 1,000,000 (~$100,000 USD) was paid in cash on entry today, SEK 500,000 (~$50,000 USD) on October 31, 2019." The final piece is "SEK 1,870,000 (~$187,000 USD) through newly issued shares in Game Chest." To break it down: CodeClub is still a company. It's now a subsidiary of Game Chest Group, since they hold the majority of shares in the company. Rolf sold these shares for roughly $100,000 USD paid in July, then another roughly $50,000 USD that will be paid on October 31, 2019. This is paid in cash (or wire transfer maybe, specifics unknown). The remaining ~$187,000 USD value was granted through new Game Chest Group shares that Rolf now holds. Rolf is now a shareholder of Game Chest Group, not CodeClub. CodeClub, now being a subsidiary of Game Chest Group, means that Rolf actually still has a vested interest in Wurm and CodeClub. Half the payout was in shares, so it's still in Rolf's best interest to see success in CodeClub and Wurm. If Wurm improves and gains additional revenue, the new share values will increase in value and Rolf essentially makes money. If Wurm does not recover and eventually needs to be shut down, CodeClub share value will be close to nothing. Game Chest Group will remain more stable since they have multiple investments. So that's everything that actually transpired. Rolf's initial statement in this thread ("The reason I did this is basically risk management. With subscriber numbers and revenues going down I was happy that another company with more muscles was ready to step in and take over business.") matches the reasoning behind the last 2 lines, so you can use that as the justification for why this occurred. Now, that's the Rolf perspective of this whole ordeal. So what does this mean for the game? New Upper Management It's too early to know what the new majority shareholders will do with the game, but from the bits and pieces laid out, there's no reason to be completely alarmed. They're clearly willing to invest into the game directly. If that's the case, then they see an opportunity to get a return on investment. How they plan to do this is unknown. However, there's some possible scenarios: They trust the existing development team to do make good decisions and bring life back into the game. They're willing to fund whatever is necessary in order to make that work. If this approach succeeds, the game will have significant improvements in a rapid timeframe, players will return/new players will begin playing, and profits will increase. If this approach fails, the company may see this is a poor investment and will take an action to try and turn it around. They may attempt to milk the rest of the remaining resources they can out of the company before shutting down. This would be the end of the game entirely. If this occurs, the best case scenario for the community would be that they attempt to sell off the assets of the game to another company after shutting down. They may attempt to restructure the staff of the game in an attempt to make radical turn-around. They want to instate a new way of doing things and make radical changes. This would often involve laying off existing staff and instating new developers or completely restructuring the team. Existing signs point to this not being their approach. Rolf and the development team would not be able to prevent this anymore. If Game Chest Group makes the decision to remove existing staff they would be able to do so. Previously staff were accountable up to Rolf. With Game Chest now being the parent company of Code Club, staff are now accountable up to Game Chest Group. Rolf no longer has final say in the positions that staff members have. If Game Chest decides that someone should be removed from GM or development team, they have all the power to do so. As it stands, there is no "face" of Game Chest Group appearing. Most of the discussion seems to be internal, with Game Chest Group not providing a representative for their interests to the players. Rolf has stated they are hands off, so it shouldn't be expected that a Game Chest Group representative will be participating in the forums or providing any feedback or insight from their perspective. For all intents and purposes, Rolf may as well be the representative of Game Chest Group since he is now a shareholder. The only thing we have to work off are the two statements from the CEO and chairman: If you want to spin conspiracy theories I guess you could take "launching Wurm on additional fronts" as a potential plan for console release. However, we can only wait and see what happens. I'd provide an opinion but I'd rather just leave this as an informative post instead of an opinion piece.

So I woke up a few hours ago, dragging myself to my computer, eyes squinting. I open Discord and have people sending me private messages: "Is it true Kats?" after which I see is Drongo's Overlord VOD. At this point I had to go make some stiff coffee to make sure I'm not in some surreal dream. Come back to the computer and see THIS thread that explains what the hell is going on. "Holy hell" I think to myself. Read through all the comments to see how people are feeling. So here are my thoughts on this: A company willing to pay around $350K for Wurm: Sees value and potential, despite the game being so old, outdated and with such a teensy weensy player base Doesn't want to flush their money down the toilet, so they absolutely have the motivation to make their investment work for them and will put things into place that will make Wurm thrive and flourish If whatever changes they put into place (for instance a cash shop) starts to generate revenue, this means more funds for expanding the team, improving the game, marketing etc I see these as very good things for Wurm - it makes me think that this game might actually have a chance now! Personally, I have absolutely no problem with a cash shop (as long as it's just cosmetic stuff) and like someone else here said, it's something they should have done years ago. I don't know if they have something like that planned, but I hope they do. Although the "Wurmian" in me would like to stubbornly stick to the core values of "everything in the game is player made", the realist in me knows that those values are of little use if the game dies. Besides, the trader NPCs have already been selling items that players couldn't create themselves for years and no-one complained. Let's not forget that Ultima Online (released in 1997) is still up and running thanks to a cash shop. So yeah, I'm feeling good about this actually!

Our plans continue as before and our development work and goals remain the same. We will still be directly working with Rolf in almost all scenarios, or working off our own internal plans. I refer everyone to the original "plans for the rest of 2019" roadmap as to what our goals are, with Jackal out of the way. All of these plans have been shared with Rolf and approved by him, they'll continue as we intend.

You have no prove that the keys sold there are legit but tell me that I provide false information. As a WU server would be my personal gain, I am here to enlighten the people and to ask unpleasant questions and acting more like a journalist than anything else. Defending the Wurm community, giving something back, that is my mission. My guess is that the keys come from the humble bundle and reselling humble bundle keys is clearly forbidden, while you are right selling steam keys is not supported by steam but also not clearly forbidden, since they wouldn't have much of a chance to prohibit that anyways. Still a company having a game on Steam should not work against steam in any way, no matter if it is grey area like in this case or clearly forbidden. It is a really bad business decision if you hurt the hand which is feeding you. The only thing that is sure that such sites never purchase keys from developers, which is as@Ostentatiostated forbidden. I mean look at the game amounts they are selling hundreds of games there, do you really want to tell me they bought them all on the legal way and got in touch with every publisher?
  45. 1 point
I personally don't like the appearance of this new company. They own a platform called gamethrill, which is selling Steam keys, which is as far as I know (correct me if I am wrong) against the steam EULA. You are not allowed to sell steam keys in general, so this platform is doing something against the steam EULA while they own a game on steam right now. It is just a matter of time until Steam will punish this. Maybe I am wrong, but this bothers me. @Retrogrademaybe you can put some light in the dark for us? They even sell Wurm Unlimited for 5.99E instead of 27.99E on Steam. I mean what a business idea is that....

I am confused. Several times there have been references to 'abusing' LT with no further details. I've seen similar sentiments in other major changes in the past. Obviously there's a major difference between how the devs and players see certain issues, but we never actually get the devs side of the issue so we're left arguing with each other on one hand and a blank wall where the devs would normally be. How is it ever possible to abuse LT? Is it doing something that wasn't intended somehow? I only do pve myself so I can't speak for pvp, but all LT has ever done for me is save me the 10 minutes of having to run away and heal repeatedly. Edit: MrGary posted while I was typing....If this is the actual concern I can easily see LT being effected by the healing debuff but there's no reason for LT to block actual direct healing by adding to the debuff.
