I know absolutely nothing about this development apart from what I read here, but I'll post something pompous anyway. As an expert in business, gaming, IT and the universe in general, I can see important clues which may have escaped some of you not-quite-so-intelligent people. Game Chest Group is a Swedish company. This is significant. Sweden is also the home of legendary 70s pop group ABBA. With all the money they made from hits like "Dancing Queen", they would be well placed to take Wurm to the next level. Game Chest Group is an anagram of Got Cheaper Mugs. Could this be a hint about the new owners' marketing strategy? On the other hand, Game Chest is an anagram of Gem Cheats. Uh-oh. Game Chest Group's initials GCG are also the initials of the Global Church of God. Has Wurm been bought by some sinister religious cult? They are also the initials of the Grilled Cheese Grill. This may be significant, but I haven't thought of a reason why yet. So there you have it. This development could indeed be a great opportunity for Wurm. On the other hand, it could be a disaster. Or it could make no difference at all. Remember, you read it here first.

Since we are seeing people suggesting whole-sale changes to the game as QoL changes, I'll offer a real QoL suggestion. Could we have an option on rare items to turn them into normal items? Or at least some way to force them into bulk containers. Kind of tired of having rare dirt littered all over my deed.

Maybe a popup asking if we want to continue when putting in bsb/fsb/etc? It'd give another option other than saccing +1

You must be new here. Any change = doomsday. No change = doomsday. Chance of change = doomsday. Doomsday = doomsday.

These would work similarly to bow racks. As it is now saddles don't really fit into most containers. I think they would benefit from a simple to make rack, simply a few planks, a shaft, and nails. As you can see these types of racks are wall mounted, but can easily be given little feet to free stand on their own. I found some free standing ones on google images, but they where metal, and I wanted to show what these might look like in-game.

Hello i want to say how interesting this game is, still learning it and noticed some things need some improvements. I still enjoy playing the game though. What i want to see is... (Edited) 1)Able to make a different race beside human, an elf or even half-elf race. They provide different bonus skills and some off compare to the humans. Already seen some mythical creatures such as dragons and unicorns, etc. So why not elves??? 2)I just bury a dead creature on the paved road, shouldnt be doing that. First of all, need to be pick up or dragged off the paved road or any hard surfaces to dirt or soft ground to bury. Note please put a pile of dirt in that spot where it is buried. 3)Camping gears, able to carry a tent, but no bedroll of any kind. Wish we could craft those or comes in with a bedroll. Not all of us like to sleep in huts or someone houses. I noticed this npc, she had a tent and a bedroll in there and she take turn sleeping in it. 4)Would like to have trapdoors for above with ladder going up or on the floor, having a rug or something covering the trapdoor on the floor would be interesting and well hidden from thieves. 5)Very much want 1h spear type or Javelin weapons in the game, my character like to be like a amazon using a shield and a jav. Also would like to see more weapons in the game such as katanas and wakizashi too. Flails would be interesting, since good against for those using shields. There are so many different type of weapons out there. 6)After been wander around in the wilderness, esp near the waters, how come I don't see any rivers? Having rivers is important that go inland and would be useful for players needed water to drink, fish or even irrigation plays important roles for settlements to grow. 7)Artificial ponds and lakes, these would be nice to have around our settlements and villages. 8)Please change the vision range while on horseback, noticed you can spin 360 degree like the movie "The Exorcist", should be like 120 degree to the left or right, if they want to see directly behind them, would need to slow down or stop the horse and then turn. Someone told me that when you are nearby a creature that will go hostile on you, they are detect by range not by LoS (Line of Sight). Note some creature can hear or even smell you doing something and bring them in, if they are interesting. So all players have LoS of 120 degree to see in front of them. For creatures, should have the same thing as well. So if you are behind them and not make too much noise, you should be able to pass them or sneak up on them. The reasons i bought this up, hostile creatures can be behind buildings or objects and detect you no matter what. Was hoping that will be fix, as long they (players) not making too much noise or cooking anything, the creatures shouldnt be able to detect you. Also dunno why we cant climb over fences or stone walls, but if we could, so can the creatures that roam around in the world. Would be nice to update those graphics esp the portraits, they look old almost like 8bit mapping pictures. I will try to add more suggestion later on. Thank you, Wildelf

Because time is money, and 4 second for digging a new dirt and 20 or so seconds lost on sacrificing the rare dirt, isn't as good as just putting it in a bulk container.

I have found that if you keep getting the message "you have to be on the same bridge to do that", using the "place" option works a treat to pick up and bury a corpse on a bridge.
  20. 1 point
Instead of implementing new things.. could we just have a fix to the super old problem where a body is bugged on a bridge and could not be taken or butchered or buried? Game probably assumes that the body have fallen to the ground and there's some range between me and the body.. even if I can see it on the bridge next to me... for the game it's probably several tiles below me and that prevents me from doing anything to it, result is... pretty marble bridge.. with a bunch of bodies on it... while it could be a nice feature for somebody who values such pictures, it's also a bug in this case.

I can confirm that. As far as I remember the name will be for example "CustomName the venerable black dragon hatchling". Plus you get a 50% chance on getting a female hatchling which can be used to farm more eggs if you know how to.

Can we please get at least the minimal info on the points highlighted in red? What does that "original design" mean? a temporary cluster/server like Jackal is? Me, personally, would be extremely interested in 2 following points: Would epic home servers stay how they are, and would characters and their skills stay as they are. reason for the first one is i dont really want to keep building a huge profect for the next 4-5 months wasting my time and a lot of money just to realise in the end i have 2 weeks left to enjoy what iv done and reason for the second is would be very similar. i dont want to spend 5 months grinding skills in the cluster where all would be lost. I would move to freedom instead. I dont want to know any spoilers of the full details, i just simply want to be reasured that my points raised will stay or a notification that they will change. Me and other Epic players really deserve this as a minimum. Thank you

Not even going to voice an opinion on what this means for the game because it doesn't matter. However, reading through the thread, an explanation of what this is could've been presented much better than it is here. The original post should've been written by Retrograde and had a PR statement about what this means moving forwards to settle the anxiety of the change. Instead, it fell to players like @Malenato give a better insight into the potential futures of where this could lead in the future. Regardless, everyone should form their own opinion as to what this means. To do so, you need an accurate picture of the events that unfold, so I'll try my best to organize the full picture and CodeClub can correct me wherever I'm wrong. Switching Shares Referencing the press release that @zethrealposted here: Rolf sold his shares in CodeClub (representing "82.9 percent of the Code Club shares") for a "total of SEK 3,370,000" ($346,250 USD at current exchange rates). It goes on to say "of which SEK 1,000,000 (~$100,000 USD) was paid in cash on entry today, SEK 500,000 (~$50,000 USD) on October 31, 2019." The final piece is "SEK 1,870,000 (~$187,000 USD) through newly issued shares in Game Chest." To break it down: CodeClub is still a company. It's now a subsidiary of Game Chest Group, since they hold the majority of shares in the company. Rolf sold these shares for roughly $100,000 USD paid in July, then another roughly $50,000 USD that will be paid on October 31, 2019. This is paid in cash (or wire transfer maybe, specifics unknown). The remaining ~$187,000 USD value was granted through new Game Chest Group shares that Rolf now holds. Rolf is now a shareholder of Game Chest Group, not CodeClub. CodeClub, now being a subsidiary of Game Chest Group, means that Rolf actually still has a vested interest in Wurm and CodeClub. Half the payout was in shares, so it's still in Rolf's best interest to see success in CodeClub and Wurm. If Wurm improves and gains additional revenue, the new share values will increase in value and Rolf essentially makes money. If Wurm does not recover and eventually needs to be shut down, CodeClub share value will be close to nothing. Game Chest Group will remain more stable since they have multiple investments. So that's everything that actually transpired. Rolf's initial statement in this thread ("The reason I did this is basically risk management. With subscriber numbers and revenues going down I was happy that another company with more muscles was ready to step in and take over business.") matches the reasoning behind the last 2 lines, so you can use that as the justification for why this occurred. Now, that's the Rolf perspective of this whole ordeal. So what does this mean for the game? New Upper Management It's too early to know what the new majority shareholders will do with the game, but from the bits and pieces laid out, there's no reason to be completely alarmed. They're clearly willing to invest into the game directly. If that's the case, then they see an opportunity to get a return on investment. How they plan to do this is unknown. However, there's some possible scenarios: They trust the existing development team to do make good decisions and bring life back into the game. They're willing to fund whatever is necessary in order to make that work. If this approach succeeds, the game will have significant improvements in a rapid timeframe, players will return/new players will begin playing, and profits will increase. If this approach fails, the company may see this is a poor investment and will take an action to try and turn it around. They may attempt to milk the rest of the remaining resources they can out of the company before shutting down. This would be the end of the game entirely. If this occurs, the best case scenario for the community would be that they attempt to sell off the assets of the game to another company after shutting down. They may attempt to restructure the staff of the game in an attempt to make radical turn-around. They want to instate a new way of doing things and make radical changes. This would often involve laying off existing staff and instating new developers or completely restructuring the team. Existing signs point to this not being their approach. Rolf and the development team would not be able to prevent this anymore. If Game Chest Group makes the decision to remove existing staff they would be able to do so. Previously staff were accountable up to Rolf. With Game Chest now being the parent company of Code Club, staff are now accountable up to Game Chest Group. Rolf no longer has final say in the positions that staff members have. If Game Chest decides that someone should be removed from GM or development team, they have all the power to do so. As it stands, there is no "face" of Game Chest Group appearing. Most of the discussion seems to be internal, with Game Chest Group not providing a representative for their interests to the players. Rolf has stated they are hands off, so it shouldn't be expected that a Game Chest Group representative will be participating in the forums or providing any feedback or insight from their perspective. For all intents and purposes, Rolf may as well be the representative of Game Chest Group since he is now a shareholder. The only thing we have to work off are the two statements from the CEO and chairman: If you want to spin conspiracy theories I guess you could take "launching Wurm on additional fronts" as a potential plan for console release. However, we can only wait and see what happens. I'd provide an opinion but I'd rather just leave this as an informative post instead of an opinion piece.

If this company tries to actively get involved. It could go either way. They could make it better or worse if they understand the niche want to keep the spirit of the game or try to radically mess with it to milk it for cash which would alienate the core group of players. (note a recent buyout of another Nordic mmo where the shift triggered aggressive changes in the game and pissed off a huge portion of the veteran playerbase) For now I'll just keep playing and see which way things go (hopefully for the better).

So I woke up a few hours ago, dragging myself to my computer, eyes squinting. I open Discord and have people sending me private messages: "Is it true Kats?" after which I see is Drongo's Overlord VOD. At this point I had to go make some stiff coffee to make sure I'm not in some surreal dream. Come back to the computer and see THIS thread that explains what the hell is going on. "Holy hell" I think to myself. Read through all the comments to see how people are feeling. So here are my thoughts on this: A company willing to pay around $350K for Wurm: Sees value and potential, despite the game being so old, outdated and with such a teensy weensy player base Doesn't want to flush their money down the toilet, so they absolutely have the motivation to make their investment work for them and will put things into place that will make Wurm thrive and flourish If whatever changes they put into place (for instance a cash shop) starts to generate revenue, this means more funds for expanding the team, improving the game, marketing etc I see these as very good things for Wurm - it makes me think that this game might actually have a chance now! Personally, I have absolutely no problem with a cash shop (as long as it's just cosmetic stuff) and like someone else here said, it's something they should have done years ago. I don't know if they have something like that planned, but I hope they do. Although the "Wurmian" in me would like to stubbornly stick to the core values of "everything in the game is player made", the realist in me knows that those values are of little use if the game dies. Besides, the trader NPCs have already been selling items that players couldn't create themselves for years and no-one complained. Let's not forget that Ultima Online (released in 1997) is still up and running thanks to a cash shop. So yeah, I'm feeling good about this actually!

`To maintain objectivity in journalism, journalists should present the facts whether or not they like or agree with those facts. Objective reporting is meant to portray issues and events in a neutral and unbiased manner, regardless of the writers opinion or personal beliefs.` (a quote) and imho.. `But they don't own anything else that's even remotely like wurm` - Objective `acting more like a journalist than anything else. Defending the Wurm community` - Subjective, even if we're represented properly, we are being, represented, as subjects.. this is not journalism, it's politics and the questions posed by said `journalist` are engineered by our collective, subjective, fears. Journalists don't defend they report. `What interest do you have in the gaming industry or the communities that support it?` is an objective question ` Are u removing all the cheap ass keys from the market to sell at a higher price thereby benefiting the game?` is a supposition but still objective because it's strategy that relates to an.. objective. `Do you intend to milk us for all we're worth till we die a sad death?` is a subjective question ` My guess is that the keys come from the humble bundle and reselling humble bundle keys is clearly forbidden` i don't want to patronize anyone by explaining that one. even when the answers are subjective, the questions need to be objective. Journalism is a discipline, you can't be objective then eloquently apply subjective suggestions into it. unless you work for FOX or CNN, obviously.

So you asked for feedback and improvements for the server, saying that you will listen and whatnot. Apparently i was hateful and spreading ######? Please point me out the parts where i was hateful to you or to anyone in that channel. I'd post my full logs but alas i don't have access to them anymore. Maybe you could do that for me and post them here in this thread? If not, i will give a brief rundown of what i said. I gave you a rundown of what i think is wrong with the server and what improvements there should be to increase the playercount, starting at saying how WU is pretty much dead in general. Anyway I went on by saying that PvP in WU isn't the best for attracting players because it was never a huge thing in WO either as most people tend to play and enjoy PvE. I had people in the channel agree with me in that regard, telling me that they are not interested in PvP. I said that "epic is garbage" (which it is, but apparently some people find this offensive, and insulting somehow?) and i also said that nobody gives a ###### about scenarios, missions and all that stuff like that (which, again is pretty much true unless you have a huge dedicated playerbase playing, since those are usually done by big groups of people, which you don't have) since you have been only talking about these in the "what's next part" So then i went on and asked what has been added to the server since release apart from HOTA and minor bugfixes, and went on to say that you need events, or anything to bring the community together and to break up the montous grind. Add QoL mods, or more mods in general that has been suggested to you that you ignored. I gave you examples with the sort of events that you could do that are happening on other servers, (troll slaying on Sklotopolis, christmas raffle on Revenant and santa going around giving us gifts) since someone in the discord told me to give you more examples, to which i asked if you want us to spoonfeed you. I also recommended that you get rid of the player kingdoms and add one kingdom only with HOTA and pve zones. I fail to see we were hateful or saying ######. You didn't even bother with events, or anything for christmas. Could people even receive gifts? I don't even know. Anyway good luck for your server. Just keep in mind that if it wasn't for me bringing Traslogan on board who in turn brought your only GM at this point who doesn't even play on board, you would probably not even be where you are now.

I've played WO a while - 8 years I believe. I like the epic scale of it, but at the same time... since having been introduced to some QoL features in WU, I've began to feel there can be a balance between epic scale and convenience. I'm suggesting we consider adding 4 regional portals at every starter town, to the 4 quadrants of each server (NE, NW, SE, SW), as well as portals between the starter towns on Xanadu. This allows new players exploring a server to more easily reach a desired area at the far end of a server - but it doesn't eliminate risk entirely. The region they teleport to isn't guaranteed to be safe and will have the same dangers - just without the trek from the start deed to the "region" they're heading to. It also is added convenience for the existing player base. I realize some hardcore folks won't like this, and that's just fine. Don't use the portals then. The simple truth is - the game isn't just supported economically by hardcore people. If the game is going to last long term and we hope to add additional players, there has to be a balance between hardcore and convenience, like many of the other improvements/conveniences that have been added over the years.

When Rolf, the creator of the game says that revenue is down and things aren't going well, you know things are bad. I love how casual he is about it, it's clear he is beyond caring for this game at this point. I wonder how his real estate investements are going? Anyway, at least he is honest with us which i like.
