So I woke up a few hours ago, dragging myself to my computer, eyes squinting. I open Discord and have people sending me private messages: "Is it true Kats?" after which I see is Drongo's Overlord VOD. At this point I had to go make some stiff coffee to make sure I'm not in some surreal dream. Come back to the computer and see THIS thread that explains what the hell is going on. "Holy hell" I think to myself. Read through all the comments to see how people are feeling. So here are my thoughts on this: A company willing to pay around $350K for Wurm: Sees value and potential, despite the game being so old, outdated and with such a teensy weensy player base Doesn't want to flush their money down the toilet, so they absolutely have the motivation to make their investment work for them and will put things into place that will make Wurm thrive and flourish If whatever changes they put into place (for instance a cash shop) starts to generate revenue, this means more funds for expanding the team, improving the game, marketing etc I see these as very good things for Wurm - it makes me think that this game might actually have a chance now! Personally, I have absolutely no problem with a cash shop (as long as it's just cosmetic stuff) and like someone else here said, it's something they should have done years ago. I don't know if they have something like that planned, but I hope they do. Although the "Wurmian" in me would like to stubbornly stick to the core values of "everything in the game is player made", the realist in me knows that those values are of little use if the game dies. Besides, the trader NPCs have already been selling items that players couldn't create themselves for years and no-one complained. Let's not forget that Ultima Online (released in 1997) is still up and running thanks to a cash shop. So yeah, I'm feeling good about this actually!

You just insulted people who disagree with you, on a personal level making assumptions about their lives or alleged lack of... then complain about bad attitudes 👌

I think that most things have a "secure" option now but some things are missing this, for example gnomes, yule deer, yule goats, pottery Valentine flowers, pottery flowerpots, normal planter pots, rugs, dragon skulls etc. Could we please get the option to secure these items as well, similar to the Christmas snowmen we got as a present? Also, please allow other containers like backpacks and crates and perhaps racks with crates in them, to be locked. Thanks.

    1) You start with a tent at the start of a new account. In jackal, if you can build a boat you can probably build a tent... if you have the tutorial enabled as a new player you'd probably learn about this also although I doubt as a new player you'd jump right into jackal since it's not really accessible to everyone right as soon as they begin playing the game, at least it's hella unlikely. 2) The game has a real world economy so there has to be some weight behind the decisions you make, rather good or bad you're gonna spend hours if not days trying to find your body as consequence of your decisions and risk. 3) This is a skill you eventually developed by exploring, but a map can be helpful although I'm guessing you're talking about Jackal, the unknown world we have all traveled to. Having a map would honestly destroy any kind of mystery behind the whole update. 4) There is a team system which creates a group chat. I still don't fully believe there are new players in jackal but returning players, multiple of which are running multiple accounts but that is just my opinion. JONSMOW!

Although perhaps not such a bad deal for Rolf (since he accepted more that half of this buyout in shares of a penny stock sort of company started (Listed? in 2017) I am sad to see him relinquish control as the god of Wurm. To me his determination and success in keeping Wurm alive all these years in spite of all the player resistance, condemnations and hope on their part for failure because he did not follow their wisdom in a multitude of areas; was an inspiration in one man standing alone to keep it all going. Make no mistake, all those who did assist him positively in various aspects to make this happen were there ultimately because of him, which is always why I have considered him to be the true god of Wurm (but without the capital G for that would be a bit too much worship, even with my high opinion of his achievement). Now we have new nebulous overlord pretenders to the game with little understanding of it's deeper meanings and significance in the hearts of many players and basic concepts of equality through achievement (other than buying accounts of course). Which direction this will all take none know but the hopers will continue to be hopeful and the doomers continue with the gloom. As to Rolf, I salute you with respect for you have accomplished what few could have imagined yet many had hoped, to create a game based upon the concept of life and the values that it holds. I hope that as your life continues in new and positive directions that you will find the enjoyment within it that many have found within these fond lands of Wurm, so carefully tended by your hands, heart and mind. Happy Trails =Ayes=

Thanks for letting the community know Rolf I have no idea about his company who now owns Wurm but I love the game as it currently stands. I hope things go well for all parties involved. I have a concern in relation to possible playerbase information kept by Wurm Online, e.g. email addresses and so forth, which can be sold (as some major companies seem to do on occasion)...what checks and balances are in place to maintain confidential information in relation to the player base? Sorry if I sound silly, I am not very au fait with game transfers and perhaps this does not even factor into anything. Thanks in advance.

Like Malena said, the company that bought the shares is just trying to make more money. Their motivation is to make the game better and thereby increase the subscribers/revenue. Maybe it will be better, maybe not, we don't know. We do know is that the way it was before wasn't working, so there isn't a whole lot more to lose. There's really nothing more to be said about this, because we know so little about this company and how it operates, except Rolf's word about them having a hands off attitude. Everything else is just pointless speculation.

You're trying to attract people that nearly always won't ever want to play a slow paced game like wurm. If they can't figure out how to find a corpse, or ask for help finding a corpse from a priest that can locate it with a spell, or navigate a map, or look for landmarks, or use the highway that gives directions to most deeds on a server and very easily find where you are comparing deed names/distances to the maps on the forums, then pretty much everything about this game isn't going to appeal to them. tell me about how i'm the kind of player ruining wurm, tears sustain me

Well, I am not quite sure what to make of this. Having worked in IT for as long as I have I have seen a lot of vulture capitalists... errr, venture capitalists... scoop up companies and really screw them up. I have also seen them grab struggling companies promising them the sun, moon, and stars, and then not even delivering a worm (see what I did there??). RARELY, if ever, have I seen them be a positive. Yet I know Wurm is in a major decline. The simple truth is, Rolf appears burned out. It happens. I 100% understand him taking what he can, and leaving the headache on someone else's doorstep. In trying to be objective, I looked up the financials. ONE employee. ONE. It *appears* to be not much more than a shell company. The second quarter financials aren't even listed. However, a quick glance at the stock chart isn't too bad. I didn't go into extensive charting (is it overbought/oversold? What about the moving average convergence/divergence?) I am really curious as to the huge spike and drop in July... that is a bit of a red flag from what is essentially a penny stock.. I'll hold my breath and hope that there is a lot more than what I can find from a quick Google. And if it is the demise of Wurm, well... we've been preparing for that for quite awhile anyway. I'll still play and enjoy my time, no matter how long that is (but only pay for 2 months sub at a time.. )

Thank you so much for posting this. Seriously, this really helps with easing some of my anxiety. A cash shop wouldn't be bad as long as it's purely for cosmetics and people know what they're paying for. Nothing that gives people an advantage over others, or something that incentivizes spending lots of money to stay ahead. That just makes the game less fun overall and damages the overall community of the game. We do need more people coming in, we need new blood, but that is the hard part. What will draw new people into our game, and bring all of that sweet green with them. It's one thing to bring people in, but we need to have it so that they acclimate nicely into it so that they're not crushed by the difficulty and just end up leaving over it. Getting money is one thing, but we still need numbers. Either getting old players back, or finding a new way to draw people in.

As Jackal has proven, there's not a lot of new players. We've almost completely lost the influx of new players we were receiving, all that's left is the vets. The problem with this is they have no idea what a player in this day and age coming into wurm for the first time wants to experience out of wurm. They also don't know what made people leave. The game is designed purely for the vets, every change that is made is to please the vets. There is almost no effort to keep new players, to make the new player experience better, and to modernize and grow the game into something that now day gamers would play. It's a stubborn game that refuses to adapt and continues to slowly die.

Was more referring to those talking about a PvP offshoot, but yeah, it stands for everything. Before lumping people into being "freedomers" (which doesn't help your cause) why not suggest ideas for the elevation rework rather than a third server?

yeah id say you are using an old version, tested with 6 chars on lan and each joined as a citizen and not mayor. Did it with the Deed that is default log in that has no mayor (pvp), did it for player made deed, did it for GM deed where gm was mayor and also wasn't mayor and worked every time, new char was made citizen each time.

DeedPlanner 3.0.3 release features bugfix of map-corrupting bug related to undo/redo, as well as changes to text readability and database update. Check it out! Standalone (Windows/Linux) version: https://github.com/Warlander/DeedPlanner-3/releases/tag/v3.0.3 Web version: https://warlander.github.io/DeedPlanner-3-web/ Changelog: Added Jackal trees Added Jackal structures (beacons and lodestone) Added all types of flower pots Added cupboard Added chicken coop Added small and large pottery amphora Added missing archaeology statues Made different types of marble planters actually different Improved readability of most text in the application Improved handling of long entity names in GUI lists and trees Changed names of all trees and bushes to include "tree" and "bush" in their names Changed names of archaeology statues to their in-game names Fixed undo/redo stack overflow and added safeguard to make sure it won't lead to map-corrupting bugs anymore I'm in the process of setting up secondary development environment on Linux, for easier debugging of Linux-specific issues. This should allow me to fix the issues related to the Linux version more easily, and might also help with Mac issues I cannot directly debug. (but I cannot guarantee it will help with Mac issues, depends on how platform-specific they are)

Our plans continue as before and our development work and goals remain the same. We will still be directly working with Rolf in almost all scenarios, or working off our own internal plans. I refer everyone to the original "plans for the rest of 2019" roadmap as to what our goals are, with Jackal out of the way. All of these plans have been shared with Rolf and approved by him, they'll continue as we intend.

Wurm, by it’s very nature is a process of continual change, not just the game itself, but every aspect of it’s existence has changed over the relatively short time since I began playing, there’s barely anything left of the wurm I began playing. Change is inevitable, wurm changed when Notch left, it changed again when Rolf stepped away from the development process, and it’ll change again. Change has got us where we are today, and change will take us somewhere else in the future. And whatever changes we face, there will be those who embrace it, and those who resist it, and those who simply retreat from it, change is what we make of it, as individuals.

Sklo, sorry to tell you that, but you may be sued in certain countries if you spread false and imfamous informations about someone, even if these informations may prove, over time, true. If i were in you, i'd be more prudent and lean to say that it's already enough that the same company we speak goes from cash shops in game to online casinos (if i remember well), to sell games in humble bundles, wich is basically a games discount wich leverages over the chance for the developers to make a little more gain if they cut their profits all over his product. About those bundles, i am pretty sure to know how they work: resellers pays royalties to Steam, who gains over basically owning the games they sell, to get the keys they then sell to players. Steam gains from that practice comes from the fact they don't need to do work for this gain, they just rake money from a product they already have milked enough, and if the reseller does not sell enough of those products, well, worse for him. Overall, the naivety i can read on most of the comments is staggering: from the staff basically telling their 300 players that they are stupid instead of reassuring them that the game is not already half into the sink (a thing that you can easily see by staying the last year into wurm: from 450 to 300 players online on average, not counting the 1200 we had when xanadu was in), to those players still thinking there's an actual cure for a game that is already worse than their clones, even if the staff is not even payed for the work they do, thou someone is getting money over their shoulders, and not little money. Don't get me wrong, i wish so much that the game could get better, but over the years, i NEVER saw that happen, and a lot of things were done to go into that direction: it's not that i've no hope or faith, it's that i became atheist over the years.

Even a slight smile brought flickering into the minds eye can be a time released healing tonic to wounds both old and new. Then as the years recede only perhaps a sadness will remain of toes squished when the thoughtless trodded through these realms unaware of those resting quietly by the wayside ever watching those in passing through the carefully tended forests of possibilities. The chatter of many voices in this wilderness can be disturbing to those who dwell there within the silence of tranquility which they prefer. Think not to change them into what you would wish them to be but rather know that some are not like you and your kind but nonetheless are part of and beneficial to the whole for the variation out of the sameness that they bring to it. What they think you may never know because their thoughts might shatter with the sharing into places beyond their comfort of retreat. I see the light of introspection here searching for something which is not mine to reveal. Those who wander there must discover their own truths with so many seeming to mold them into their own experience to enhance their beliefs. As your Trilogy unfolds here perhaps these words might seem disjointed from the present but they are what springs to mind from the reading. Fanciful raindrops from the sky that will refresh some new thoughts sprouted perhaps and yet if nothing remains left behind from a life lived on one's own terms that will be enough for those that lived it. Even then it was to little effect to those who considered it beyond their worth to consider. Within all this harmony of contradiction you must find your own way or be swayed by every slight breeze of an other's thought, for what is pleasant to one is anathema to another. Happy Trails =Ayes=

I really don't know what the concern is all about. Anyone still playing already knows the game was barely on life support and leading to an inevitable extinction. BUT, we keep playing (for the most part) and riding it to the bitter end. NOW the game has a very real hope of change, with a potential boost to it's life expectancy. It could die quicker, but it was dying anyway, but at least this gives it a chance to survive. Game Chest just made a big investment and they certainly would not have done so, if they thought it was going to end in failure. While it does sometimes work that way, we at least have hope that Game Chest has a plan to make things better. Wurm could lose the ability to sell with real cash transactions. It could just become a set of officially run WU servers. It could turn into micro transactions, but knowing the players here, I suspect that would not fly well and backfire. I'd honestly been considering selling off accounts and even opened some chats with potential buyers, but just could not pull the trigger. Now I am glad I didn't. I'd like to stick around long enough to see what Game Chest has in store for us.

I'd like to note that some popular sites, including G2A, do engage in sketchy acquisition and sale of keys, including purchasing them from individual players, which is against Steam policy. They've developed a bad reputation among indie game developers in particular, with good reason. But this doesn't extend to all similar-looking marketplaces, like Gamethrill.

If you take "As many as I can carry" from a bsb / fsb / crate and have a full inventory ( 100 items or maximum weight capacity ), you get the following messages: "[19:21:23] You selected max." "[19:21:23] You can not even carry one of those." If you choose how many items to take and are at maximum weight capacity, you get the message: "[19:31:24] You selected 1." "[19:31:24] You may not carry that weight." If you choose how many items you want to take from the bsb / fsb / crate and have a full inventory ( 100 items ), you simply get the message: "[19:26:25] You selected 1." It doesn't say that your inventory is full or that you didn't actually get the items. I'm not sure if it's an oversight, a bug or intended... but it could definitely be more user friendly

Interesting idea. I've never really had a problem with this, I just drag the pile of items and when the pop-up appears (or even before it appears) I just press the 'Return' (Enter) key - it automatically takes as much as I can carry.

I will just interject with the fact there is an existing public mine. Havens Landing itself has a mine all players can use and are encouraged to do so. As it is the perimeter of this zone no one has any say in what can and cannot be done there, I commend bloodscythe for taking the time to check out to make sure he is not stepping on anyones toes or against the rules. In the end one of the many mines around Havens landing was closed, this is no big loss as there are many more.
