Some minor confusion regarding the naming of Mauls and Axes in respect to their respective skills. Maul types available are Small, Maul and Large Maul, skills are small maul, medium maul, and large maul. Axe types available are small, axe and huge axe, skills are small axe, large axe and huge axe. There is sometimes confusion when trying to explain that medium maul or large axe are not named consistently with skills that are associated with them, where the other skills match the items available. Swords are fine, the items match the skill names.

Hi all, I have been away for quite some time and for a while, I was keeping up with upkeep on my deed. That is, until I ran into more health problems associated with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis/Ulcerative Colitis with lots of visits to Toronto General Hospital. At some point, I sort of lost track along the way and logged in only recently to find out that most of my deed has decayed. Now, all I can do is clear out what remains of the buildings, take an assessment of what's left and rebuild from scratch. Since it's almost fall again, I'll be spending time in Wurm Online throughout the fall, winter and early spring again. This year was also my last year of motorcycle riding. I've chosen to give it up to prioritize other more important things so I'm selling my motorcycle after 3 years of riding. It was good wind therapy while it lasted but these days it's getting more and more dangerous on the roads and I've seen plenty of acquaintances and friends get injured or killed on motorcycles. I decided to quit while I'm ahead especially given the upcoming challenges I face. I'm still waiting for my 3rd liver transplant since my disease recurred in 2016 and my doctors told me I can expect to end up in transplant within the next 3-6 months if I'm lucky enough now that I've moved up the list. I'm starting to experience the end stages of liver disease so I'm just hoping my doctors pull through at this point. I'm finally at a point in my life where I've got a clean slate to start from financially, mentally and spiritually with a lot of support from family and my stress level is at an all time low. I'm doing everything I can to stay as healthy as I can to prepare for another major surgery and the future is bright so that gives me a lot of hope! Actually, I'm still debating on whether I should sell most of what I have and move to an already-established deed that could use me or rebuild. I need to think about it because at any point now I can be called into surgery and the recovery will be at least a month to get out of the hospital, another 6 months of physical recovery and another 6 months after that for a full recovery. It's impossible to tell what state I'll be in to play once I'm in recovery mode but if it goes as well as it did the last time, I should be able to sit comfortably in a computer chair within a month or two after surgery. We'll see... Anything can happen. First, I have to get out of the OR alive. Talk soon, Neville.

I can paste some drain data from my app later, but on celebration i average 4.5s a month. I can go back years and show the difference between now and the nerf as well. Contrary to the socialist on the forum, 10% goes back to the trader and the other 90% goes to my upkeep. I dont profit anymore, havent for nearly 4 years. Guess what, that means you foragers are taking the coins i put back in the kingdom pool. Are you putting all of it into upkeep? How many rares have you bought? Players also love to camp the sell-to-token feature as well as use free alts to conjure coins through foraging. Both these take coins from the kingdom coffers, which is where traders get money from. If there are no coins in the coffers when selling to a token, traders will be getting very little money. I can confirm we get far less from traders because of this, but Trader draining was never intended for income. I'll take what I can get as long as I can get it, no use complaining considering sit does no good. #missingmyfountainpacks I despise socialism and to suggest something is not fair because others capitalize on something before you is absurd. I have no issue telling yall I drain traders, at one point I had four of them. I stopped buying them when roi became nearly a year. At this current time I control one, and am content with the upkeep assistance it provides. Have a great and hypocritical day nay sayers.

Mine out veins or rock in fewer actions (1/2? 1/3? or 1/5?) and rather than it creating piles or rock and ore, it makes "usless debris", which rots within a few minutes. Maybe with rock, it should still take 50 actions, but veins could drop to 1/3 or 1/5 the normal actions. Another way could be an RNG with a small percent chance for every action to totally destroy the vein. Maybe 1 in 500 chance, so rocks would generally still take 50 actions, but veins would likely go faster. Obviously makes tunneling and canals faster work, but you get no rewards of materials in the process. I imagine most people would use primarily for sandstone veins.

Can we all collectively agree that a rift shouldn't disrupt highway protected roads? If a road is protected by the highway system the paving should not be allowed to be removed by a rift spawn. Simples.

Alright I manage to find a suitable place for an elf to hang out and enjoy, at the meantime still trying to setup the place and transporting stuffs and that is not easy task. So while I am in Haven, gonna continue to try to reopen the mineshaft before I leave this place for good. Been digging time to time when I get a chance, even a new player want to help me. That was nice, he almost felled in that hole and told me that wasn't the first time he died from a deep steep hole. That what I was afraid of, so I told him don't stand too close on the edge while digging or you will slide down there in the pit. So it look like it going to take me longer than I expected to reopen the mineshaft for the public. I wont abandoned it until I am done, then I will move out of Haven. Btw he asked me who did this "who put those trees there behind the fences?" i wasn't sure what he mean, until i realize he was talking about the one I planted over a week ago. He said "wow" and like it. So we had alittle chat, told him what happen and wondering why i am digging here, etc. So also told him what happen and feel bad for doing this and want to clean up my mess i made. He still want to help, that was the interesting parts. Also told him, i am going to pack up and leave, once i am done reopening the mineshaft. He was upset and didn't want me to leave. He manage to make a little cube hut or shed right next to my plot. So i told him you can have my big cottage i made once i am finish. But he was sad and still didn't want me to leave. Also he wanted to make his own cabin there next to me. Anyway he been asked a lot of questions, like how to plants those trees i did, etc. I told him you can continue to do what i started if you want, after i leave and keep that place clean and nice and neat. As long don't mess with someone mine lol. Hard to tell if this actually a new player or just messing with me. He been around since tried to shut down the mine that very day.

Buying an already "reputable" account and some end level gear will absolutely spoil the game purpose; Wurm isn't a game where a drake set or an epic level weapon matter, Wurm is a game about self accomplisment, about being proud for what you did or what you make on your own, the joy to reach a certain level in a skill, the hapiness to turn something rare and see its shine. If you use money and buy everything, you will soon get bored and quit, because you "played" the game without playing it and got everything a player gets after a lot of hard work. I wish you good luck anyway, but a reputation isn't bought, either in real life or in Wurm, a reputation is built over time through what you do and how you act, you earn it yourself, can't hire someone to bring it to you.

Being a new player to the forums / Wurm Online, I’m looking to start building my reputation. I have played on a Wurm Unlimited server for a couple weeks, but not many people played and so I decided to give the real game a try. A buddy suggested I could buy an account as the game is dying and might not be worth creating my own. Grinding skills high isn’t really my thing if it takes years. Things I am looking for: 1. Self-Dependent Account 2. Drake Armour Set (Might be interested in Dragon Scale Armour Set) 3. Basic tool set to improve tools / weapons to a useable level. 4. Boat. 5. Weapon 6. VILLAGE to join 7. Any other suggestions on useful things to have? Preferable payment methods: PayPal, CashApp, Venmo, I’d prefer not to purchase expensive items with in-game silvers as I would have to purchase silvers. I have gotten the “You are a new player and don’t have a reputation, I won’t sell to you” stereotype a couple times now. I am hoping this is a good way to begin building some sort of credibility. I thought by helping find a thief on Celebration that maybe I could build some credibility, but I do not know the details behind it. If there is anything I can do, let me know.

Jackal Point shop The Jackal point shop will now be open. Every week a new weapon skin will be unlocked. Tokens are no drop, but can be traded between players. Once applied to the weapon the token will disappear and the weapon will keep that skin until another skin token is applied to it. Skinned items will have an examine message indicating it is skinned. Jackal Bugfixes and Changes The difficulty of gathering rift materials on jackal has been reduced. No wasted attempts on gathering failure on jackal. Destroying Jackal beacons will now give more information about the server progression Bugfix: Epic kingdoms will now be correct when returning to Epic after Jackal Epic portals will not work from JackalAll travel to and from Jackal must go via Freedom. General Changes Bugfix: Warmasters will now correctly lose invulnerability after all turrets destroyed Bugfix: Armour damage values from rift creatures have been reduced Bugfix: Jackal creatures will no longer appear in Freedom missionsAll existing Jackal creatures spawned from missions on Freedom will be removed with this update

After not a small amount of struggle, I finally cobbled together a rudimentary toolbelt on Jackal. Hooray! Or so I thought until I returned to Freedom and discovered that the Jackal arrangements have overwritten my Freedom toolbelt. Same thing happens between Freedom and Epic. Apparently there's a (very painstaking) workaround, but outright no-fuss separation would be so much simpler (for players) and user friendly. To be honest, it feels like an oversight that this isn't already in the game, seeing as Jackal is intended, at least in part, to be a sideshow for players with a permanent presence in the other clusters.

haha, yeah lack thereof is right. Pretty anti-climatic dragging items up and down a window XD
  17. 1 point
Yeah, I don't think traders are a huge issue right now. If they were I'd probably be less concerned about them being "unfair" and more concerned with the type of gameplay (or lack thereof) that they reward.
  18. 1 point
It is true, not 100% socialist, some things are similar but not as faithful as pure socialism. Politics aside, I don't feel traders really need changed. Years ago, when I was making 20-30s a month, I would have to agree, that is obsessive.. but for most peoples 1-2s and even my marginally better 4.5s a month, it's not game breaking. With my profit, if I actually kept it, I could maybe get 1 decent rare pickaxe each month.,... and how many do I reallly need lol. I think there are other balances to be looked into before ever considering this, such as pvp (which I'll leave to those that actively partake these days, I'm horribly out of it)

To your edit: social democracy and socialism are completely distinct. Social democracies (like the Nordic model) are capitalist with heavy social programs and wealth redistribution. Socialism is fundamentally incompatible with capitalism. Bernie Sanders and most other "socialists" in the United States advocate for social democrat policies, not the abolition of the capitalist class in favor of a socialist system.
  20. 1 point
hehe, I like discussion! Nah I'm not entitled, anyone is welcome to buy and plant a trader, while it further spreads the kingdom funds around, I'm good with that. It is fair that anyone can buy a trader, which as it happens a good bit of the 50s spent is put into the kingdom pool and the rest is available on the trader you bought it from, so the purchaser gets a bit of a refund
  21. 1 point
Again, wealth redistribution is not socialism at all. Socialism negates the need for such programs. Socialism is when the workers control the means of production. If the Wurm economy were socialist, it would mean that the means of production (let's say land, tools, and maybe even accounts) are owned/controlled democratically. Merely moving capital around at a governmental level is not socialism, by any reasonable usage of the word. I don't think it's feasible or necessarily desirable to remove capitalism from Wurm, but "that's socialism" is neither accurate, nor a valid criticism on its own. In general, yes, I do believe that Wurm should be more egalitarian, and reward players for playing the game, rather than investing capital or merely appropriating it after the original owner has moved on. I've also used traders extensively in the past. Currently operating one to offset the cost of my deed. I'm not going to waste time getting into a political/economic debate on here today, but: Yes, that's exactly what socialist scholars and economists state as well. If you look at society, though, the actual work hours and requirements necessary to earn an equivalent income have NOT been decreasing. The last victory on that front was the 40 hour work week. Human labor is becoming less and less necessary, yet 40 hour work weeks are still the standard. Everyone I know with a tech/engineering job ends up working more than that. Advances in automation, etc, benefit those at the top far more than they benefit anyone else. I don't think it's crazy to look at addressing those issues by changing the mode of production.

Well, even something as simple as making it so that wildcats don't go aggressive on you if they untame would be nice. I never understood them doing that. Mountain Lions are more understandable, wolves too, but wildcats? And it hurts me to see my guards kill one, or accidentally murder one myself. I love cats, and that just kills me inside.

New Livemap The livemap is now 4 years old and has seen many development iterations. Finally we have found the best solution at the current time, a fully automated livemap, using a flat representation of the map, to make sure pixel coordinates match ingame coordinates at 100%. Especially Novus has so many deeds and towers that it is impossible to handle them by hand. We have also added some more unique features to the livemap, try it out yourself now and find out what's new on the livemap. So say good bye to long delays in submitting markers or the pain of outdated markers, from now on deeds and towers will be added automatically. Same URLs as usual, for example let's look at Novus: https://andistyr.github.io/wu-map/14821/

Yearly Maintenance Downtime All machines in our network are currently stopped A picture you don't see very often, but Sklotopolis is going through the yearly maintenance downtime at the moment. Why we need to do this? We are running a very powerful server, on this server we have about 9 different virtual machines (servers) running. These machines need some care and also the host operating system needs some maintenance and restarts. But stay tuned as we will already be back shortly, things running as planned. We are looking forward to see you all again ingame soon.

haven't you already gotten reimbursed by the money given out by the trader lol
  33. 1 point
I hope you are prepared to fully reimburse the players who have invested coins in them if you intend to further nerf them into the ground... Unless you have a shitload of 1s deed upkeep deeds and an insane amount of traders, you are not making income with them.1s50 to 2s per traders per month is nothing compared to the amount of free coins the forage / botanise / kill / bury system offer. That system already give a lot of coins, new players are also more likely to create rares... If the system is broken its for the few that farm traders (and i'm not sure how many are left nowadays!), not those who are using them to lower their upkeeps.

As always, people will draw their own conclusions on this situation and others, so I leave it to them. Happy Trails =Ayes=

Wildelf, yes Bloodscythe is a good person and likes to help others. There are many in Wurm who like to help others. (and unfortunately some who just like to cause trouble), and some like to do good deeds anonymously, as Ayes does. Ayes is one of those people, who has over the years always anonymously helped others, and has put in many, many hours (and in some cases his own money) making nice areas around starter deeds for public use. To state that you don't see anything good on his part, even by reputation, just shows that you're new & unaware. (and understandably dismayed and a little hurt by this unfortunate situation). Unfortunately, due to the nature of Wurm, these types of situations have come up more than once over the years and you shouldn't stop playing your character because of it. Just understand that it's Wurm. Land disputes over how undeeded land should be used are frequent , even land that someone has claimed as their own without deeding it (which is allowed), hence the saying "deed it or lose it" which is supposed to settle it & make everyone feel better about it but never does. Another saying in Wurm is "just because you can, doesn't mean you should." As a sandbox, many things are allowed that shouldn't necessarily be done out of common courtesy. In general, messing up the work of others where it has clearly not been abandoned, is not a good idea. In this situation though it's not exactly undeeded land, it's the perimeter of the starter deed, and Ayes made that mine as a convenience to be used by all. And from the sounds of it there was a whole lot of work involved, not to mention signs set out, etc., stating that it was for the public. So on this point I feel Retro is out of line & very inconsiderate to just brush it off with a "no big deal." Just my opinion. My understanding is that Haven, which is a fairly new thing in Wurm, is allowing people to settle in the perimeter(?), but in general I thought it was supposed to be public lands with resources and facilities intended to be used by all and not claimed or blocked off in such a way as to prevent others from using them. A place where new players could have a safe haven to familiarize themselves with the game before venturing out to either join a village or start their own, not to set up permanent housekeeping. I know Haven is different from private deeds, but as a general rule, doing anything in perimeters that aren't yours is bad form and buildings can't even be built, (and if building can be done in Haven perimeter then that's definitely different from private perimeters). Since you're new you can't be expected to know any of this right off so don't take this wrong, I'm not criticizing. It's just that it can potentially lead to hard feelings, as it has in this case and you should just be aware of it. And with building/settling allowed, I doubt this will be the last time Haven perimeter land is disputed just as undeeded lands elsewhere are hotly disputed at times. It's a Wurm thing, no reason to think that's ever going to change so it's just something to be aware of and gotten used to. As you venture out and learn more about Wurm, it's a good idea to keep in mind that settling in an area and making changes to the work of others, like public roads & tunnels for instance (another hot issue of debate sometimes), can often lead to bad feelings for all involved. And if you mess with someone's perimeter, you're likely to start a real firestorm. There is so much open land that it's not difficult at all to find areas where you won't impact anyone else's game, even on Independence.

From 7AM EDT on 9/6/2019 until 7AM EDT on 9/9/2019, use a portal or boat to get to the EVENT CENTER and get some items improved to 70 quality!!!! This event is perfect for new players! Here's how it works: Find the proper station inside the Community Crafting building or the Community Mine. Rename your item with your Wurm character's name so it does not get confused with anyone else's items. Then put the item you want enchanted / improved inside the designated Coffins. Your items will then be taken by a high-skilled improver in that specific field and improved to at least 70 quality! Woohoo, who wouldn't want that?! So gather up your lower quality items and join us for a weekend improving party! The Arena will also be open starting halfway through the event. We really hope to see each and every one of you there. Also: Only 1 of each item per person. Thank you!
