The Stronghold Deep into the wilderness of Jackal lies a fortified position that is home to a special beacon powerful enough to radiate its influence to the far edges of Jackal. As players expand farther into Jackal, it will become harder and harder to create beacons strong enough to overpower this influence. Breaching into this stronghold will be a difficult but necessary task to completely rid the lands of the corrupting influence. Those brave enough to breach and defeat the stronghold will receive a large number of Jackal points which will be redeemable by their character when they travel back to the lands of Wurm. Completing other tasks on Jackal will also reward these points, and when redeemed will allow players to choose from a list of special item skin variants that can then be applied to an existing item to cosmetically change it. The list of available skins will be expanding over the coming weeks and months, so keep an eye out. In addition to Jackal points, random rewards from completing Rifts and Rift Scouts will be replaced with Rift points which can be redeemed in a similar manner for the player’s choice of items from the Rift reward table. Points can be saved and collected across servers and multiple rifts, with some items requiring attending multiple rifts to earn enough points to claim.

Yes, I would. People will exploit mechanics and cheese the content just like they do with everything else. I remember thinking the exact same thing when I implemented titans. I bet that nobody would be able to kill one within a month of the server. Low and behold, players drowned them, sacrificed them, used pets to tank them indefinitely, etc. No matter how hard you make it, players will be determined enough to cheese it and take it out in a way you haven't thought of yet. So yes, I'd like to bet that these strongholds will be defeated within the first few weeks of the server. Specifically within 3 weeks of when the server launches. What's did you have in mind for the terms of the bet?

as someone who plans to re-prem for this, i honestly dont care about the rewards. As long as the mobs are challenging and smart (gang up on you and such) and they make living in jackal an impossible thing to do solo (forces you to hang around the spawn deed with everyone else) then ill have plenty of fun on jackal. Sometimes the experience and the fun that comes from it is already plenty of a reward as is.

Within a week the thing will be raided by those who have a lot of time to play (and be prepared) against those who have work or others RL occupations. We will just face the same problems like usual.

OKAY... I was letting my concerns out last night in GL freedom about some competitive gameplay that will only reward a few players... and here we are. As if the current unique mess is not enough, we will have a once in a 6 month period 'large point opportunity" for those who will manage to get in at their convenience. Sorry, but this seems (another) bad game design.

Simple suggestion; allow players to lead a unicorn if they've put a bridle on it without having to retame it. Keep it unhitchable or unrideable unless tamed for balance. This would make life far easier for those that are breeding unicorns without having to retame the male or female every time. The mechanic is already there to put a bridle on, let us use it :)

Well, since all we have are snippets with no details yet, we can only base our reactions on those snippets. Based on that I can say at this point, my overall impression so far is that this is definitely not going to be for me but I wish you all well with it and hope it turns out to be fun for those who like this kind of thing. When the first announcement came out I was really, really hoping this was going to be something akin the to hunting islands on some WU servers. In that, I have to say I'm disappointed. My impression at this point is that it is going to be another competitive activity which is not my cup of tea in an mmo. It seems it's, firstly, going to be a competitive race to "git gud." Skills, equipment, resources, whatever. And then the goal itself. Bleh. Doesn't sound like fun to me. If I wanted that kind of competition I'd play something like PUBG where the stress is only in short sessions rather than spread out over months. But as I said, this may be enjoyable for some and I hope it turns out like they're hoping it will. For myself, if it is what it sounds like with the limited info we have so far, I guess I'll stick with WU for my main playing. This isn't something that will entice me to increase my play time on WO since I won't be bothering with it.

Well IMO as someone who is leaving the game, this could be a change to keep me from going, but because there is so little information and i have seen the history of how the updates work in this game i would bet my money against it being good. Now if there was the whole information about it out there i could my assumptions and if they are good i would stay. And if i am leaving i am probably not going to come back. In that sense them giving out the information could first of all hype up players who are leaving, players who are stalking and maybe get some people interested of coming back instead of this vague RP stuff which might feel cool, but isnt really helpful. So GL to you guys(and gals) and have fun, im out.

All we have now are assumptions. Why not to wait a few days before coming to even early conclusions? This all may be quite different (or not though). Give it time to unveil.
  10. 4 points
Wanna bet? I also think you're vastly overestimating just how weak you will be within a week of gameplay, even if you have 90 skills girls can hold swords too (unless you're a boy then boys can hold swords too)

"ughhh skins in wurm whats going to be next? lootboxes?" -emoo 2019
  12. 3 points
Heh, might as well raise potential issue and see them fixed before the launch before seeing the same mess being repeated over like challenge was. But yes, we do need to know a lot more things specially on what we will be able to bring back from jackal, how the skill transfer to the land of wurm will work, what kind of rewards we can expect (skins... really?!), if they will be tradeable... etc etc.
  13. 3 points
We both know that with the EZ mode WU skilling system, the fact we have tight knit groups who can play 10+ hours a day that will most likely happen. Split the load and you will have 90QL weapons / armors / materials within two or three days... after that, it will just be a matter of how difficult the stronghold is. Maybe not in a week, but way too fast for a server that is supposed to provide entertainment for 6 months.

The primary reason to be a full-time jackal crafter is trade. To come stand at the stronghold and fight takes investment. Investment of time to level up your crafting skills on a server that will be deleted. Or investment of some silver into gear from people who did, so that you only need level up your fightskill to participate. As a full-timer. I am banking on the latter to be significant enough to justify my investment of time. Especially as the hype drops off in later cycles of Jackal though, I really hope that these cosmetics have a high enough demand to keep people coming out to Jackal to buy my wares, or that if they aren't doing the job they adjust it by adding more rewards. Regular rift points, the ability to import unbreedable animals, logs, and crops from jackal using the points we earn out here, other rewards etc. This development is GREAT for people with new accounts they can't really compete with ancient accounts on freedom/epic. But keeping it viable is a matter of keeping most of the players in the game in a state where they will see visiting Jackal on occasion, and buying weapons, armor, food, bandages etc. while they are out there as a worthwhile endeavor.

Interesting day one fact - 80% of all users (and roughly the same amount of sessions and time spent in them) are using browser version. That's the number I didn't expected, looks like making the web version work as smoothly as possible should be the priority.
  16. 2 points
if using a modified portal with a fancy texture means instanced playing doesnt that mean that epic is already made wurm be instanced play?

Considering that it is a few days until launch only... I suppose more or less the new content is set into stone set aside some minor tweaks. Disclaimer: I may or may not be wrong on this as well of course, I personally really like all the fog around the new release.
  18. 2 points
That'a a totally BAD idea. What if the day of the reset the players had planned to take the stronghold? It should be determined by the players activity, not some arbitrary deadline.
  19. 2 points
I think it is universally understood by most MMO players that those who are able to put more time into the game get more out of the game at a faster rate than others. I don't think CodeClub can or should be responsible for mitigating that fact. I think if these new Jackal scenarios immediately reset after the stronghold is defeated, it gives a constant active scenario for anyone to pop into and contribute in whatever way they want, gaining a bit of this and that along the way. It almost seems to me to be a sort of extended quest/story line you see in other MMOs. If so, and if it is not totally wrecked by greedy PVP content, it will provide some PVE content readily available ANY TIME for ANY player. I am liking this, to be honest.

I reckon just because this particular action gives "a large number of points", most of your points earned will still accumulate over the groundwork done to conquer the land to begin with. Ideally the extra reward is "nice to have" but insignificant compared to the points earned by consistent contribution over time. And despite the apparent problem of having to be online/lucky just like with the other things that you allude to, and rightfully so, at least there's a truly competitive aspect of having to reach a status where you can raid the thing to begin with, as everyone is starting from zero. Uniques are penned and slain by fully prepared characters and players; imagine they had to forge the tools, weapons, and armour to pull it off again every time, and do some grinding along the way before they even get there.

I'm sorry, doesn't really explain much. Are these lodestones intended to be exist at the rift site for an extended period of time where those unable to attend the rift can harvest, or do we have to barter or trade for some if we hope to go to Frontier upon it's opening? There are alot of things that appear after the close of a rift, and we can all attest that they don't normally last very long after that last heart is burned.

I'm not very familiar with StarGate 1 but we can build an empire on Jackal that spans from the Aiel Wastes to the Aryth Ocean.

As someone who doesn't use twitter or discord or any other social media, I'm perfectly happy with forum updates on things. Honestly, I'm not sure I understand how the forum can't be just as "live" as social media since all it requires is a post. But that's just me and using social media for updates wouldn't affect me one way or the other unless updates stopped being made on the forums in favor of social media. p.s. Just being conversational here, not trying to be critical or adversarial. It was brought to my attention that it could have been taken that way. So, apologies if I don't always come across in the way I intend.

Main if not only thing I find to complain about is the lack of publicity of this far reaching extension of the game content. Damn, there is not even a note in my mailbox, so that former or temporarily Wurmians are left out too, other than with Elevation reset. Will the staff never learn?

Finally I see the culprit behind these new lands! It is none other than JackA.L.(ornmere)! Here behind this thinly veiled disguise he seeks to lure poor unsuspecting Wurmanites to this new land of doom that he has created, distorted by his weird experiments, as these leaked pictures so dimly reveal. Do not be deceived my friends (even those that aren't) for once you travel there you will not return to our fair Wurm lands with your sanity intact, for this I fear is the transformation to your "character" that will return with you, should you ever find your way back. Hardly a bonus to be sought for your adventures, eh? *puts feet up by the fire and watches for their return* =Ayes=

Rest assured, many of the questions raised have been already considered and addressed. This project has been underway some time with a lot of time spent ensuring it is engaging and worthwhile. These snippets are not the full story yet, stay tuned for more as well as the full patch notes on release this week.

Looks like the issue is now resolved, Thread locked.

I have warned about Scorn being horrid in the past, nobody listened, in fact I even warned about the alignment issue causing people to completely loose their faith, they released it anyway, and all sorts of work and compensation had to be done for a while for that. It gets bothersome when you express concern and it gets unnoticed It's sad because it says something about the communication of the team, unless if there is an entire thread dedicating itself to a single issue. I was very hands on with this thread and some changes and many fixes actually were done because of me. Retrograde himself said that tweaks and balancing will be done in the future and that includes for priests, so I would like to propose this: Have Scorn work like LoF, it prioritizes high damage wounds and heals across all targets within the 7x7-11x11 radius. (instead of just picking single targets sometimes due to the finite number of wounds healed) Amount of wounds healed is 3 on every affected target, This makes it less powerful than LoF in healing. But makes up for it in the additional damage dealt. In PvP terms, having Scorn be a spell that needs to be cast with other players nearby in order to heal properly makes no sense at all, since with other players nearby... It would just be interrupted!!! The wording used for Scorn of Libila in this thread almost made it sound a lot like a LoF that required enemies nearby to be cast, but instead I got this, and I actually felt cheated having switched to a BL deity, but I am still happy enough with the spells. So I'm about to compare my version of Scorn to Light of Fo. Pros: Damages enemies nearby a bit, giving it a slight offensive edge. Consumes 40 favor instead of 60, allowing it to be casted twice without sacrificing to an altar or vesseling. Cons: Heals 3 wounds instead of 5, making it much less effective for healing. Has 50 difficulty instead of 40 which may lower healing quite a bit. And this is what I expected from Scorn, a way of healing for black light kingdoms, that doesn't feel unfair in it's reduced effectiveness because Fo is the true healer deity. (And BL have mycelium absorbing) Also I just noticed, why does Libila literally have no reason to be followed? As in not be a priest but be a follower, she has no passives, the absorb ability is tied to kingdom, not her. And the standing on mycelium to gain food bonus is far from a bonus. At least give her a "higher aptitude for combat" bonus like mag, or even something unique, like a 15/20% characteristic gain increase. Which isn't overwhelming compared to Vynora's global 10% increase in everything.

Currently enchant is quite useless for trees/bushes, as they cannot be harvested or have their sprouts picked when enchanted. As in title, have it halt the growth of the tree/bush, so that we can have decorative bushes/trees ondeed always looking good instead of being random stages of growth. (PvE decoration suggestion basically)
