a group of us were talking and think it would be fair if paper sheets didn't take damage inside a book/journal/almanac but instead the book takes the damage as that can be repaired/improved. of course if we let the book rot the pages are doomed as is also fair. would also be nice to have a useful bookshelf to more safely keep books in inside our homes. that could stop or at least slow the decay of the books. the reason for all this being that we can write a book, we can make all these nice new useful books, but we can't ever put them down or the pages rot right out of them a little safe-guarding and we'd be more able to place books as decorative items and class things up a little more TL;DR please stop the pages rotting right out of our books, that nice leather bound cover should do its job ?

I have nothing else to add to this other than yep. Myself and Sme had to make the rite of death happen on inde ourselves because it was never going to happen otherwise, probably on any server seeing as my cast was the only one since the existing favors from priest overhaul time was exhausted. We had to spend weeks with an army of accounts praying so much that fatigue was a constant issue in order to do virtually all 100k prayers ourselves (we counted our logs in notepad++) which is also why I didn't make any threads about making it public and only asked my alliance. Because you know... opening it to the community is what gives the option for people to steal it. Find me someone that puts in 99% or more of the work to something that will happen as a "community effort" once a year if at all seeing as there are no other rite of deaths before or after, and is willing to let someone else steal it, and I will show you a liar. The system forces people to go behind the community's back in order to get what they want without being screwed over by those that did nothing at all. Kinda like when there was a private pm to cast holy crop and one of the participants kingdom mates come over from chaos and steal the cast, working with the community results with getting screwed over because bad apples will ruin the whole bunch.

I actually really like this idea. @RetrogradeI'm so sick and tired of devs attitude to force multiplayer aspect in everything(meaning alternatives are needed for people who wants to do things solo at their own leisure, without paying for bunch of 2s alts and machine powerful enough to run them all no mather how more tedious it would be over doing it as a team) and i swear to god one day i will quit this game after all these years just because of it. Just for your info, the current system is terible expecialy for Lib template priests, and brings no joy or sence of accomplishment but endless pain, stress and feeling of being left out for every single Lib priest there.

That could cause other problems, especially considering the currently low player population. Less popular rites might be difficult to assemble a team for if previous rite participants were blocked from acting as batteries. Here's an idea: how about 'participate in a rite' is expanded to include prayer contributions to the rite favour pool. Once a character has contributed a total of, say, 10k prayers to successfully cast rites, the goal requirements are satisfied. Such a change would give players more control over their own goal progression. Most importantly, it would mitigate the current (really, really not fun – hint, hint) feeling of being robbed every time a rite you need is sniped on your server. Something like this seems like the fairest way forward if there's no hope of the goal being ditched altogether.

Griper just to be clear about what Retro says when he says "decoration items", it means ONLY these items: https://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Category:Decoration So most items that are "decoration items" are actually just furniture, tapestries etc. Stuff that you wouldn't even put on top of other furniture in the first place. The only items I can see in that list which would normally be desirable to put on top of a table or book shelf etc are: bowl fork spoon This is obviously not so helpful to us. You just sounded so excited and happy that I thought I should point this out in case you might have thought that when Retro said "decorative items" that he would have meant "things we can decorate with". Here's the actual problem we are dealing with: If I wanted to... put a set of armor and maybe some leather working tools in my leatherworking shop, to make it look like leatherworking has been done.... set a table with wooden plates, forks, knives, spoons, a pottery flask, skull cups or beer steins... put some tools and sword blades on top of the forge to make it look like someone has been making swords... put an almanac and some other books on a bookshelf... set down some horse shoes, bridles and saddles on some tables near a merchant stall to show I'm selling stable wears... ...I could not because everything would decay (except for the fork and the spoon on the dining table)

Welcome to the Crazy Crop Circles thread. A bizarre phenomenon has been noticed by the farmers of Wurm - strange patterns appearing after the first harvest. The following are true pictures of genuine crop patterns left after the farmers have harvested the first of the ripe crop, before the rest of the crop ripens. Is this happening to you? Feel free to post your pictures of strange crop patterns in your fields! - real or fake!

As far as I know sand never refreshes. If you find a sand tile you can investigate, it probably means it has never before been investigated since arch began. It would be a good idea if we could search sand tiles - a lot of artifacts in real life are found amidst the shifting sands.
  17. 1 point
I am not sure if this is intended or not but sand does not refresh and become investigatable again, the odd tile will but most do not the same way paved tiles were acting. There are a lot of deserts around that have had lots of deeds on them and it would be helpful if they were fixed and we could investigate on them as well. ?

As the old elevation map has been released in its final state only, I decided to clean it up to get it back as close as possible to the original, untouched state. This is the reference image of the original state I used. Here is the result: Sadly some details got lost in the process, but I tried to restore as much as possible. Mountains and the craters still look the same at all and deserts, the HOTA steppe, moss and peat have been placed close to their old positions. This would be an undesirable trait in non-hostile animals, and we have enough of those already. This would also reduce a significant perk of being a Fo priest. If one is dead set on breeding hostile animals, following Fo is a solution. And I say this as a non-Fo follower that breeds tortoises and has wished any number of times that I could breed them without them snacking on my face or their potential mate.

Let's tweak the idea a bit, potentially taking a hint from AH: for each month of premium that has been purchased, you can 'care for' a decorative item, capped at a total of 12 items. Granted this doesn't help with set pieces like plates and tableware, but would allow people to preserve the items they care about the most. And maybe one item per month of premium is enough of a gate that the cap could be 24 or even 60? It might help with retention and would also create a mechanism for long-term players to showcase their most prized possessions without fear of them rotting away.

Well. For some skills, 1:1 isn't as horrible as it sounds at first. Sure, epic has faster skill gained, but the vast majority of time spent skilling on Epic requires you to skill at higher Effective skill level, and at a slower rate due to this curve than if you skilled at your actual skill level. For example, a skill like shieldsmithing or leatherworking, which I have reached 90+ on Freedom already, on SBCoC, usually goes a bit like this. On Freedom, SB and CoC: 3 points per hour at 50 skill range, gradually decreased to 1 point per hour at 70 skill. Finally, about .60 skill per hour through the 80's and .20 per hour at 90. This is rough math, but I've grinded many skills on my account Deathangel to 90 and most of them take this similar rate of progression on Freedom. That's my freedom grind progression. Now consider grinding those same skills on Epic, SB and CoC: my actual 50 skill 3pts/hr on freedom initially becomes something like 75 effective skill due to the epic curve. That means i'm gaining about 1pt/hr at 50 skill due to effective curve... however, I'm also benefiting from the Epic skillgain (x3), so that Epic 1pt/hr at 50 skill becomes 3pt/hr at 50 skill, on epic with SB and CoC. That means i'm skilling, using the same methods, 1:1 with what I would be gaining on freedom for 50 skill. The curve cancels out with the skillgain boost for 50 skill range on skills like mining and imping skills (carpentry, smithing, tailoring). Conclusion: throughout the 50 actual skill range, 1:1 is a fair conversion ratio. Now let's consider the same scenario but at 70 skill range: At 70 actual skill, on Freedom, I typically get 1pt/hr with SB and CoC. Most skills in wurm progress this way, with a few exceptions like prayer, meditation, channeling?, etc. So let's compare my 1pt/hr Freedom skilling to what I'd be getting on Epic (again, SB+CoC). Converting 70 range Freedom skilling to Epic, Firstly, the epic curve makes me gain slower because 70 actual skill ---> about 90 effective skill on Epic. So instead of gaining 1pt/hr on epic like I do on freedom, I would gain at the 90 skill rate of (roughly) 0.2/hr (again this is with SB and CoC). Initially, before the x3 Epic skillgain buff, I am going to be gaining at .2/hr at 70skill on Epic which is much slower than 1 pt/hr on Freedom. Now we apply the Epic x3 gains effect: .2/hr on Epic at 70 skill goes up to .6/hr at 70 skill on Epic. That means, I'm getting 0.6/hr for most crafting skills on epic at level 70. On Freedom, I would be gaining actual skill at a faster rate of 1/hr at level 70. This means that for the 70 actual skill range, 1:1 is NOT a fair transfer ratio because skilling is faster on Freedom beyond 50's. For imping skills then, it is slower to skill on Epic than on Freedom beyond level 50 (approximately, I could put effort into exact cutoffs if devs wanted help implementing a fair conversion ratio). Note: This comparison is for most skills in the game that progress like imping skills (carpentry, smithing, tailoring). An easy comparison can be made for other skillgain types, it will just look a little different. Now lets consider the early skilling (sub 50). In this situation, it is faster to skill on Epic than Freedom below 50. Take 30 skill for example. 30 actual skill on freedom is going to be faster than my 3pts/hr at 50. I can't remember exactly what 30 skill with SB and CoC is like, I'm gonna use 5 pts/hr as a reasonable guess. So 5pts/hr on freedom for 30 skill level. Now we consider leveling at 30 actual skill on Epic. The curve makes 30 skill act and look like 50 skill. So instead of gaining 5pts/hr on epic, before applying the x3 gains, you're looking at 3pts/hr. Now we apply the x3 Epic gains and that becomes 9pts/hr on Epic at 30 actual skill. It's almost twice as fast to gain skill around level 30 on Epic, than on Freedom. So a 1:1 transfer on Epic-> Freedom at level 30 is NOT fair, but in the opposite way that 1:1 is not fair beyond 50. Is there a way to convert Fairly, going both ways? Yes, there is. How? We can linearly approximate this shift using a few simple formulas for each 10 point skill range so that each skill is adjusted equivalently on transfer between the clusters. For example, 5 points gained on Epic at level 30 would translate to 2.5 gained on freedom at level 30, since last portal transfer. If I get blacksmithing from 30 to 35 on epic, then when I return to freedom I should have about 32.5 blacksmithing. If I go from 50 to 55 on Epic, I should have 55 when I return to Freedom. If I go from 70 to 75 on epic, I should have (1/.6)*5 = 78.33 skill when i return to freedom. That would be FAIR transfer ratios, or close to it based on TIME SPENT. That's using a linear piecewise function that has different ratios for different skill levels and it could be defined for as many intervals as we want to make it as fair as possible, but the result of a bunch of small skill range ratios would just be a good true function that represents it perfectly, some kind of exponential function that I could solve for if we wanted it. This was written with respect to imping skills. Some skills work differently and deserve their own discussion. I'm just illustrating a fair conversion ratio for different skill levels that represents MOST important skills in the game to make it very plain and obvious that it can be done and that this post took me only 15 minutes to think out and write and that a happy, mostly fair solution can be drawn out in less than 1 full day of effort for all skills in the game if the right ppl are working on it, and implemented the next day. Very respectfully.

Basically you can turn any wurm map into a heightmap to edit it easily with a tool of your preference, and convert it back into a wurm map. I turned the map files into a heightmap using the WurmAPI and Javas BufferedImage class, imported it into Unity to use it with the engines terrain system (as I have many self written tools for it), edited the heightmap to get rid of all the pillars and other damage and converted it back into a wurm map using the WurmAPI again. Pretty simple, just a bit messy here and there because Unity uses a 2d float array instead of shorts to store height information, so additional tweaking was required. Oh, and I also modified the map dump renderer of the WurmAPI to make it look more like the old renderer again. It had much darker shadows back when the original elevation map was rendered, no idea why that has been changed.

Some villagers are being plagued by Hatchlings so Voladol has called the people to arms! There will be two hunts this week on Wednesday July 3rd at 8.00pm BST and full details can be found on the Mystic Highlands forums: https://forum.mystichighlands.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&p=1469#p1469 The kingdom continues to evolve and at peak times there are usually between 20-40 citizens playing depending on the time. Some old friends have left for other lands but we have been able to welcome some new citizens. Anyone who enjoys playing Wurm in a light RP style is welcome. Some people have come only for a short visit but almost without exception they have commented on the friendly welcome and helpful player-base that we have here. Give our kingdom a visit even if only to say hello! Thanks to the efforts of Valiance and Kaylie, we are now a well-established server (over 2.5 years), however, there are still plenty of areas along the coasts available to new players. We have players from all over the world with most from UK / EU / US.

+1 A decoration should count as such irrespective of where placed, and so take no damage when placed on surfaces other than the floor - such as on a table or in a bookshelf. Little point in trying to keep things tidy, by displaying things on surfaces if they are going to take decay. Might as well just scatter them on the floor...
  32. 1 point
+1 I was going to make a suggestion about this, but did a search first and found this thread. I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE!!! It has been absolutely wonderful that we've now got the option to put stuff on surfaces, but what good does it do if they just decay away? It makes absolutely no sense that the same item that did not take damage on the floor/ground of a deed magically starts taking damage as soon as you put it on a surface. The same rules should apply! I just finished my horse market and last night I placed a horse bridle onto a bar table for display. Today the bridle is not there anymore and must have decayed overnight. Now I don't want to do ANY decorating because I'm scared I'll just lose everything to decay :(.
