There were many players that left Epic, and didn't joined Chaos or freedom, just left the game. Many of them does not follow forums anymore. I think that would be nice to give them heads up about incoming changes, by sending them email + forum notifications, so if they decide to join, then gonna have some time before, to prepare like the rest of players. Could be just link to new Elevation poll, so they can vote and read about all the changes planned.

I dont often enjoy speaking about staff, and I am really fond of Obstentatio and the work he does, but I laugh my rear end off at this. I am a member of 3 major communities in discord: A major game community, a Political commentary community and a law enforcement community. NONE of these communities, not even the cops, have such restrictive and incredibly dumb rules as our discord has. None. I have been warned for.saying simple and rather mild words I have never been warned for in these forums, and the fact that I have been there makes me avoid our discord like the plague. You guys have made exactly what we asked you to not do out of it. Hell, PG-13 movies have more colorful language than what our discord allows. Its ridiculous. So yes, I dont post there for fear of ridiculous moderation. You guys need to lay off on the damned whip. Which arose out of a comment made on discord. And until staff mans up and decides to release the reason why they banned him, is what most of us will believe. Otherwise why won't you tell us? Transparency was promised, remember? Don't make me laugh. There are posts out there that have been open for years, but the moment someone puts forth their frustrations with staff, you are the first one to come running and hide the post or lock the thread because "everything that needed to be said was said.". Since when do we close threads after a specific amount of.time? Or does this new rule only applies to threads you don't like? I said it before and I will say it again, this game is ruled by censorship. Even posts which break no rules are regularly censored if they hurt the feelers of someone in some way. Don't pretend it doesn't happen. This post will get.hidden in 5... 4... 3...

This. Can you please define "toxic players"? What will get me classified as a toxic player? Will calling Niki "hahaha you slipped off the dirt wall, ur dumb." classify me as a toxic player? Will it classify me as a toxic player if Niki gets offended? Is a toxic player one that catapults your deed constantly or one that posts jokes about your hair on discord? Will I be a toxic player if I refuse to sell bricks to a specific group because they have a certain ideology? See, there's no definition to the term "toxic player" other than whatever staff feels like applying to it at the moment. You say "toxic player" like it means anything. It does not. Its a catchphrase to ban/censor/kick whomever you feel like it. By some standards, I am a toxic player, yet I have never been robbed anyone, harassed anyone or even been warned in the forums. I could call you a "toxic staff member" right now, and what would that mean? Nothing. THAT mentality is what makes us shirnk away from your live services as much as possible. Because some special snowflake complains about some nerd saying mean things about them on the internet. But the point is not that someone is saying mean things about them... is the fact that everyone has a different definition to what its mean, and you are now using it as a standard to base your rules out of. If you can't see how biased that mentality is, then I don't know what to say. Me calling staff out for their shenanigans probably earns me the title of "toxic player". By now staff probably has a file on me the size of an almanac, even though I haven't broken a single rule. I am not going to go around pointing out when your staff has censored us, because its just easier for us to just not use your service. I just won't use your discord, or use it exclusively for the very few instances i need to get a hold of someone, and avoid posting on it like the plague. Its just simpler that way, and I am sure many more will follow suit just like me.

Lately it feels anything said lately that is nitpicking or mild in nature on Wurm official discord is being handled poorly. Such events as, forcefully hiding entire dialog's between players, cover ups, bans, and even mutes. Even recently and I've been the victim of this, aggressive posting by staff members misinterpreting players. Worst case scenario; active ingame bans because of what people jokingly meme'd about because they assumed it had more freedom of speech than ingame. People make mistakes, discord for the most part isn't a police state overall in other channels, so I'm not sure why this game in particular treats it customers in this manner. Generally Wurm discord is a police state at the moment. Most users hardly use it anymore because of fear of getting muted or banned. Anything said can be used to misquote you at any given time. A lot of us have moved onto a new discord that is censor free and less annoying. What do you think? Have you noticed this as well?

Hiding your actions behind the staff by segregating one from the other doesn't change the fact that its one team. If I say something that might get me in trouble on discord, the GM staff has the option to ban me in game. Which means that you're all working together Which means the actions on one end affect the other. Which means the origin of the bans can start with the Discord moderators, and it has. Which means typing on discord can get me banned. Which means I'm better off not using your discord.

I think it's just nonsense at this point... I'm probably one of the players that bought/sold most items in this game throught mail and in general, and mail transactions have no fees except for the 1c shipping and they can reach anywhere in 1 minute. Merchants are already hugely penalized by the fact that they require to be physically reached from the buyer, making them very uncomfortable and restricted (along with many other restrictions) The 10% tax might have had some sense when the mailing fee was 20c, but right now i don't see any possible reason to still have a 10% tax in the current state of things. Not because taking away money from players is bad, money sinks are always needed, but that's just a disincentive towards physical markets and trade hubs, and pushing player to prefer forum or trade-chat trading. I think removing it, or at least drastically reducing it would be a good idea now, and this comes from the person that basically never used them in his wurm-life. I just recently was thinking that making a mini-market stall group would be a fun idea (fun, not even profitable), but this 10% tax thing seems way over the line right now, and just makes me want to not even list good items on them, tbh : D

I am looking for some clarification on these mechanics coming forward in the new elevation thread and how they are going to affect the game as a whole in the future. The original post by whereami was directed to pvp as a whole. but it appears that epic is once again getting all of the spotlight. That is fine. But what I want to know is, a lot of these mechanics are geared towards casual players and "bridging the gap", that is also fine to some degree. But I do not think we need to make the game so bland that there is absolutely no point in grinding. Without a reason to grind, this game becomes boring for a lot of us veterans, its why we're still around, right? This isn't counterstrike and I'm sorry if joeblow wants to jump in and play for 10 seconds and have his AK47 deal the same damage as my AK47 I spent 6 years grinding on. We have absurdly reduced a lot of the gaps in pvp,, what more do we need? does 90 body control need to be the same as having 21? Does 90 strength need to be the same effective as 21? Does 1 weapon skill need to perform effectively as 99? there needs to be a reason to play the game for more than 3 minutes per week i'm sorry but you're going to lose all of your veteran players, the ones that stuck around during the shittiest times of the game, if you're going to be essentially making every starter toon the same as people with 1k+ days playtime

Sindusk had a really good.curve system that allows you to quickly grind the early levels of pvp skills. Like leveling 1-50 should be cheese, something that you can get to casually, allowing you to be ENTRY LEVEL. Then once you get there, everything slows down. The idea is so we can shed the long grind to pvp, making newer accounts able to enter the arena and make a difference, while still getting stomped by dudes who have been around for millenia. If I get 5 noobs with 70 fs and 50 aggressive.fighting, we will loose a couple but will still be able.to kill Dadd. This would allow for wolfpack tactics being viable where sheer brute wallet force reigns. Newer players dont need to be the same as old. They just need to be useful.

Why is anyone complaining about someone making a pmk ? How does it negatively affect anyone in this game? Are the kingdoms on chaos so lazy and weak these days they have to lobby the devs to change the rules again to stop something they might not like instead of solving the problem in game? Is it that hard for you to drain a 1 man kingdom till it disbands? Is remembering when to drain it everyday too tough? If someone is willing to spend 150 silver, 1 gold to found the kingdom and 2 silver per new alt, on Wurm to get a silly looking wagon and banners where is the harm in that? If they manage to keep the kingdom long enough to get the artwork patched in they deserve to do whatever they want with the wagons and banners. If one fakes the 25 accts with newbie premium accts to make the pmk they are going to be very very weak against established kingdoms. If you disagree with someone simply using their kingdom for this there is an immediate pvp solution, drain the token and enjoy the free silver. None of the kingdoms on chaos should be complaining, they will get pvp and possibly silver from disbanding or protecting such a pmk. Get over your self-righteous nonsense and play the game instead of spamming the forums with your terrible ideas.

Noticed there are no bar stool and these small stools are for milking cows and washing clothes. This bar obviously needs bar stools. Its good you would have barrel full of beer under your stool at this bar but its dangerous to drink too much. To prevent possible deaths and bar fights we need taller stools for bars and let the bartender hand out the drinks. You come no where near to representing 100% of the pvp community. I denounce threads asking for ezmode, yes. I denounce threads that beg the devs to dumbdown wurm and over complicate the sandbox, yes. I denounce redundant suggestions that already have solutions in place and the players are too lazy or not coordinated enough to utilize them. You quite obviously have no idea what you are talking about when you make claims this is impossible to stop. Is it inconvenient, maybe. Impossible, no. It may have been made more difficult since the bastardization of Chaos after I left the server but again I blame the current "pvpers" for that. Your greed and envy is so transparent here and should not be rewarded with changes to the game. Now that we have determined math is not your strong point, be a good little gladiator and go back to fighting instead of trying to solve a non-existent economic problem.
  17. 2 points
Of course you can stop it, you just choose not to so you beg the devs to do it for you. Your method is pretty simple, just like your argument, if its too hard to figure out or too time consuming just ask the devs to make it easy for you. The bigger problem here is that the devs actually indulge these whining babies.

I will never appreciate the blanket theme of totalitarian rulership that seems to permeate most of the decisions made by moderation teams to the extent it feels like I am living in 1930s Germany. This might be because a vast majority of staff are European and have far different ideas on what they personally find worthy of action. It is more so a battle in recent years than any others, as if those with the thinnest skin are allowed the most voice and power on these teams, which really doesn't surprise me. Which is why I have to at least give props to @Retrogradefor taking tremendous amounts of flak, I wager it is in relation to his nationality and the people's carry on attitude. I have been around for a lot, maybe I haven't been playing the game concurrently for the past 10 years, but I have been "orbiting" across multiple platforms for as longs as I can remember. I know how this might sound but honestly what the team needs is some excrement tossers, because the majority of staff keeps goose stepping across everyone. There seems to be no counter-balance anymore which we seemingly had when people like Duce were still around. What I find most hilarious is that you people genuinely do not know what Toxic is. Like honestly your concept of what constitutes toxic is laughable. I would love for you all to forcibly spend time with me and my ilk to get a grasp and get a grip. None of the current staff would agree with this statement but: You need to put a "toxic" person on your team to counter balance your asinine ideas because you carry innate biases that gain you no respect. I have a feeling you read that bold text and your immediate thought was "I will make them respect me".
  19. 2 points
That is fair, and probably true for the most part in practice, but it's also entirely possible that people just play it safe because fuzzy definitions and boundaries are not exactly confidence inspiring. Notice how @Angelklainehas asked for a definition of a toxic player from someone who's in charge of enforcing actions against such players, and Capi has just referenced a GM Hall thread in which "some other players who needed to be removed" were referenced ominiously? Why'd they not get an explanation? But the hackers who would quite obviously know what they got busted for did? It didn't exactly answer the question, either... It just feels like being surrounded by a minefield. Under such circumstances, I think people rather stick within the boundaries of "not toxic" rather than risk overstepping the boundaries of "toxic". Ideally this would be a binary problem as the wording implies, but it's not. There's a grey area. And in Wurm's moderation in general, the grey area feels unreasonably big on a number of things. That's the whole contention, and one that I share. Either way, I think it's a bit of an ad populi argument to say the lines are clear enough because most people manage to stick to it, and doesn't exonerate the dodginess on actually drawing these lines that is being displayed here. Another example is the way political discussions are shut down in the chat. The rules don't outright forbid them, and not every political comment or reference gets outright deleted or muted in the chat, but you barely see any politics in the chat despite there being some leeway, and I think a good part of it is risk-aversion. You don't touch the stove mutliple times to see if it's hot. So I don't even know if that "policy" is still in place, and without rules outright forbidding them, I must assume it is or risking repercussions trying to talk about politics and see when it gets shut down. This is not to say that everything must be ruled minutely in form and moderator discretion isn't important to delineate within the inevitable grey area. But there are instances where the rules could be demonstrably better defined; fuzzy boundaries can achieve a chilling effect that may even unwittingly suppress legitimate behaviour (Real life example: Managers not talking to female employees 1on1 because of MeToo). That's not exactly healthy to a community environment that is "as social as you want it to be". Maybe I enjoy a civil discourse with someone I disagree with. Others may find it disruptive because they're apolitical and don't care for either side. Is that the reason it gets shut off eventually? By all means, keep the minefield, I'm not asking for clearly unacceptable behaviour to be normalized. A fence where the minefield begins would be nice though, it would feel quite liberating to know where to step other than where you have already been.

I think that actually Creating PMK items should require a title, that works after 2% like the rest. What does this help with? Random newbs joining to spam PMK items and leaving...As the title will be on the trusted crafter.

Hello. In order to prevent people creating PMKs just for money, could we introduce a system where the PMK gear (wagons, banners etc) unlock after reaching 1% influence? Wagons and banners are the main source of kingdoms funds, and their price is high because the money is needed for the deed upkeeps, expanding the kingdom, and other unexpected expenses. PMKs created purely for monetary gain are descreasing the value of other PMK's gear and destroys Chaos reputation. Thanks a lot.

The taming dialog is somewhat inconsistent: Taming is straightforward, with the activated object (sometimes learning that the horse is not interested in a glowing copper lump ) right click animal -> tame. But untaming goes through the character window or body in inventory: human shape or body -> manage -> animals -> button "un-tame" -> confirmation box -> yes|no . That is horribly clumsy, and in mob ridden environments, very dangerous for the tamed creature which may be already killed by an attacker before one even comes close to the yes|no choice. On the other hand, caring and uncaring are simply reached by right click animal -> care for . That is a flipflop switch, when the animal is cared for, it simply uncares, without any confirmation dialog. That is dangerous as well, as the choice may be hit unintentionally and go unnoticed, e.g. in the middle of a battle, and the formerly cared for animal may die from age soon. Suggestion would be 1. Integrate untaming into the tame dialog at right click once an animal is tame. The confirmation box should appear then so that only two steps are necessary: rclick animal -> tame -> un-tame y|n 2. Add the confirmation checkbox into care for dialog once a creature is cared for: rclick animal -> care for -> un-care y|n

I've always liked the idea of doing this with a variable transparency/opacity variable in addition to R, G, and B.

You can sort by population. Some servers are very 'quiet' and some do not update their online posts if nothing much "newsworthy" is happening. The rule of thumb I use is: Sort the wurm launcher by population Check the first page ranking on wurm-online.net Check "first page" of server listings on WO & Steam forums. If a server is truly "dead" then it won't show up in any of those and you'll have easily avoided them. There is no mechanic for removing servers simply for being "too quiet" ... if they are truly deserted, they are most likely to stop being hosted and disappear on their own. Some also are only "active" at odd periods if they cater to specific timezones. Some people will never talk in global chat no matter how hard you try for a reaction. In some cases, they may not be confident in their English, as some english speakers can be intolerant of anyone who is not fluent. Some are servers where people actually WANT to play "mostly solo" but have a hard time working out how to host their own singleplayer offline server, so the 'ghosttown' server cans work well for them. There are enough strategies for you to avoid servers that don't meet your minimum requirements of activity, that we don;t really need to "punish" the ones that are "too dead" for your tastes.

+1 our economy in general needs all the help it can get, and yes that tax hurts a lot at the moment because sales are few and far between. I also agree that those of us who have merchants tend to put things on at very low prices anyway, so then taking more off the top makes it impossible to compete with the mailbox really.
  30. 1 point
The merchants are obviously in bed with the goverment, taxes upon taxes. For me, it doesn't matter much because my merchant doesn't really sell anything these days, haha. But 1+, 1c for mailing but 10% of the merchant which you have to travel and interact with feels a bit off.
  31. 1 point
Thank you for stating you don't think mutual respect between players and GM team is necessary; and continuing to justify the attitudes I laid out as a problem.
  32. 1 point
Or just leave it the way it is and people just suck it up and stop whining. There is a viable pvp solution to the problem, if you aren't committed enough to follow through then that's on you, the game doesn't need to change.
  33. 1 point
So the possibility of someone making silver is preventing you from enjoying pvp? That's your argument? Really? Envious much?

My apologies, I did not mean to imply that you personally had been racist, etc - that's poor wording on my part. However, given that this thread is about over-moderation on discord, and I've hopped into one of the 'alternative' non-official discords being touted by those who have run afoul of moderation, I can only say that if what folks had been saying in the official channels is even a fraction as offensive as what I saw in the non-official ones, then I can see exactly how they ended up banned. 'Toxic' seems to fit those individuals perfectly, to my understanding of the word, and I have zero desire to share anything with them. Again, no implication that you share anything with such individuals (beyond perhaps a slightly antagonistic approach to argument) - I have no evidence that you are racist, homophobic, etc, and did not intend to suggest that. I can't say why you've had posts etc removed, only staff could. As several senior staff have said here, you can contact them to ask about that - I assume you've done that and you're unsatisfied with the responses? I have to imagine that only serious infractions result in records, otherwise staff would spend more time writing up every minor thing they did than actually moderating. I'm not suggesting that 'toxic' should mean 'offended someone minorly, ever' - that's clearly a strawman argument. The in-game examples you've cited are clearly trivial, and I doubt you received any sanctions for them - when you had a GM called on you, did he do anything other than talk to you to figure out what happened and move on? You've described several in-game interactions that seem trivial; however, when approached by the other parties, did you respond calmly or with a stream of vitriol? I would suggest that being toxic is about how you respond to others (staff included) as much as what you do. My contention is that when only a minority of users find they run into issues with the rules governing a particular community, it may be that the issue is with those individuals rather than the community or it's accepted norms of behaviour. Possibly the issue is that the individuals concerned would be better somewhere else, and nothing more. Perhaps something more. I have no figures to back this up - only the various moderation teams will be able to say how many people cross their radars as a percentage of total users - only an impression based on my own observations. It seems to me that: the number of people sanctioned or who seem to persistently run afoul of staff is small, even within the low number of active users the people who run into issues tend to come from the pvp crowd rather than the pve crowd. Not universally, but primarily. the number of people permanantly excluded is a very small proportion of the numbers sanctioned at all, and a tiny proportion of total numbers I seriously doubt you've been banned "without a single rule broken". I expect that you disagree with an interpretation of a rule, or with the judgement of a staff member, or possibly with a rule at all. I assume you've appealed said ban, which I'm guessing was investigated and you were informed that it was correct and would stand? I'm not saying staff are perfect, or that they get it right every time. Of course they don't. I am saying that there seem to be robust procedures in place for dealing with this, and my experience, and that of the people I play with, has been that they generally work. Also, disagreeing with a sanction is not sufficient reason for a sanction not to apply, nor does it constitute wrong-doing on the part of staff. All moderation has to rely on a degree of personal judgement, and moderators (and presumably staff in general) are chosen because they exhibit the level of judgement and outlook expected by those who decide policy. You say you were a forum mod, but don't seem to be now. Can I guess that you found your own judgement and expectations did not match what was expected of your position, and you either left or were asked to leave? The counter arguments to this view I've seen on the forums seem to be as much an opportunity to slag off the moderation teams as anything else, and they seem to come from a small number of very vocal players, often who have been sanctioned multiple times. There may be a few bad apples in the moderation team (which I'm not seeing any evidence of), but their actions should be pretty obvious to those in charge, especially if they're receiving multiple reports about those individuals.

Find me a single instance where I have been racist, homophobic, have violated ANY rule, or even been non-pg13. Find me one. Should be easy no? Given I have 4,916 posts, at least one them should fall in that category, yes? Yet I have been censored, had many of my posts removed, my threads locked, and even banned in game, without a single rule broken. Even Capi above admitted I don't even have a record. Not everyone has the same experience you have, bud. I am a very active and vocal person in social mediums because its what I enjoy, and while I go to extreme lenghts to stay within the rules and avoid attacking people, it is near impossible to not offend someone. I had once a GM called on me because I bashed an off-deed minedoor that was nowhere near a deed and had no reinforcements inside. I had a guy complain about me because I didnt get the chisel he sent through the mail within 3 hours of him mailing it, even though I bought it through the forums and I was asleep at the time of delivery. I had another said I was a toxic.player because I parked my cart in front of his deed overnight because I was dead tired and my horses packed his grass. No matter what you do, you will offend someone. That's why there has to be clear rules about whats right or wrong. Simply cartering to the one that whines the loudest is not okay. Just because you havent been a victim of it doesn't mean the mistreatment hasn't happened. Some of us do speak up because we care about the game and would like to see it succeed. Imagine that.

I wish Servers that seem totally abandoned were removed from the Wurm Servers list. I have been to umpteen servers, and the majority of them never have anyone online, and forum [posts are months, if not a year or more old. It's hard enough finding the right server, without having to ascertain on landing whether or not the server is a ghost town Edited to add- many of the discord links are no longer valid either.

somehow i think that running around casting reveal settlements (as you can't locate across map anymore, assuming they even log into chaos at their deed after they spammed wagons and stuff) across everywhere freedom towers are linked for 3s/1s50c worth of drains isn't really worth the time or effort, nor is draining a token in an open field pvp. it got disbanded by upkeep 11 days after it was deeded so someone else already drained it before the pmk textures were added, but someone already showed me what the wagons look like so i wouldn't be surprised if they're already on test and will still be added even though the kingdom is gone. it's not like you can stop someone from sitting on the coastline spamming banners and bringing over unfinished wagons with 1 part left to finish in the middle of nowhere.

I think that a lot of people see the homeservers as like a trap that people fall into. The homeservers have no real downside, so people will live on them and settle and build and then get attached to their deeds there, which then deters them from heading over to try pvp on Elevation, and then the Elevation players die out from lack of new recruits. Its hard to convince people to come over to help fight and raid and conquer on Elevation when they don't want to leave behind what they built for themselves on the homeserver. A lot of people then never actually get into pvp on Elevation, often setting artificial barriers for themselves like "when i finish this deed" or "when i get x body strength", all the while remaining on the homeserver for the safety it provides, and by the time they surpassed their own artificial entry barriers to pvp, elevation has died off. In short, try Elevation. Do it while you still can, don't wait and miss your chance. You are good enough to make it there. Everyone is.

Could always just temporarily disable the creation of sorcery staffs on the new Elevation.
